nefound_derelect-birds00[Derelict Boats] Half a million dollars to dispose of that loser’s sunk tugboat? Something must be done about those irresponsible people who buy stupid boats that will never run again to live on and then when they sink, leave us will the bill to remove them. I say all boat owners should be responsible for removal of their junk (yes, even Chinese Junks). I know that they have no money or anything, but there should be a lien placed against them to follow them for the rest of their lives until they make restitution.

I’ve been having to avoid derelict boats for many years and it’s always angered me that we end up paying for their removal because we’re responsible and they’re not. Why has enforcement ignored this for so long? We just keep paying for loser’s dreams.

[Party] To all my friends and non friends on the Coconut Telegraph, my name is Pat and I am the person who had the party in Eden Pines on Saturday night. Sorry if I offended anyone, however, I had the band stop at 10:00PM even though the noise ordinance is 11pm. A great time was had by all. The only thing left to say is when you hear the music, and if you are in a dancing mood, just follow the sound. All are welcome. And, by the way, I’m not a “jerk”.

egg cracking slowly

Anyone out there know the truth as to why the Cracked Egg has closed right at the height of the tourist season?

[Ukraine] I think the current admin and the EU will stand by and watch in the finest tradition of Chamberlain while Russia annexes Crimea and the eastern section of Ukraine.

[Bureaucracy] Talk about feeling like a un-person, I just went up to get my drivers license renewed and the dimwit asked for my drivers license, and three forms of ID to prove I live here and am a citizen. I handed her my DL, my passport, my birth certificate and she still wanted my SS card. I said you do not need the SS card because that, by Federal Law is not a form of ID. She said Florida has to have it. But you can get a gun carrying permit with your passport, or vote with no ID!

revolution red coats marching

[March 5,1770] The Boston Massacre, a pre-Revolutionary incident that grew out of anger towards British troops, occurred. Five anti-British rioters (insurgents) were killed.

I received these two grinder pump stories from a correspondent in the Islamorada area, slated for a grinder:

Years ago my family owned a vacation home in the mountains of western Maryland on a lake.  Before we sold, they put in central sewers and our cottage had a grinder pump.  I googled to see if I could find any feedback on issues there.  Since the first of this year there have been two overflows because of grinder pump failures – one 1200 gal of sewage and one 9600 gal.  The report noted that the area was flagged as contaminated.  The form asked whether any body of water was impacted. Yes, but the lake is frozen at the present time.

Don’t know if I told you about some friends on our island who have a home up north with a grinder pump.  It was originally installed 13 years ago.  They have had the grinder pump replaced 6 times in 13 years.  The alarm system has never worked.  They always have to call when they see raw sewage and toilet paper in the garden. No light, no alarm sounds, and the telemetry system doesn’t work.

Shockwave, the world’s fastest jet-powered truck lights up the burners on a track in Ontario, Canada. Powered by three jet engines and hitting speeds approaching 400mph – this is one lorry you won’t get stuck behind. The three-ton 1957 Chevy generates an incredible 36,000 horsepower and can cover a quarter mile in just six-and-a-half seconds.

[Ukraine] Hilary, yesterday, compared Russia sending troops to ‘protect’ Crimeans to Hitler’s sending troops to Czechoslovakia to ‘protect’ the people there. And we all know how that turned out.

[Outlaw Press and Seal Bags] I hate those plastic storage bags where you have to squeeze the two edges until you hear them snap together. It’s like I can never get them to work right and don’t have the patience to do it. From now on I’ll pay the premium for Zip-locs. I’d really prefer the plain old plastic bag with a twist tie that were really cheap and easy too.

[“Derelict Boats”] I’ve got to wonder about that big paddle wheel thingy anchored in Niles Channel between Summerland and Ramrod after reading about that big sunk tugboat down (literally) by Key West.

[Regulators Regulating] The Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary Advisory Council, working with public and community experts, is developing recommendations for changes to sanctuary marine zones and regulations. Using direction from the sanctuary management plan, the advisory council’s marine zoning and regulatory review goals and objectives, and public comments, the council has identified priority issues to be addressed through working groups and workshops. Information or advice resulting from working group discussions is presented to the council at its bi-monthly meetings, and may be incorporated or modified when the council makes recommendations to the sanctuary superintendent.

[Sewers] We live on Key Deer Blvd and never worried that we’d have to get a shitty grinder pump because we live on the main line. Yesterday we got our letter saying we would get the dreaded pump anyway. We’re not going to sign the easement letter until they make us or FKAA sees the folly of using them.

horse race[Gambling] $400 billion is estimated to be the amount of money wagered each year on illegal betting. If they legalize gambling (and taxed winnings) in the US all that would end. When something is pervasive it’s best to legalize it because no matter how much you want to, it can’t be stopped. Gambling, marijuana, tobacco and liquor are examples. None of those can be stopped, at best they can be controlled and taxed. All those unpopular laws do is make the illegal activists rich and burden our judiciary system. The only ones benefitting from those bans are those employed in the legal system.

If gambling was legal the mob, as we know it, would be out of business.

[1st vs 2nd] It looks like there is a Constitutional conflict taking place on Big Pine.   The active shooter is insisting on his 2nd Amendment gun rights and his pissed off neighbors are exercising their 1st Amendment right to free speech.

party animal2[Party Animal] Sometimes this crazy old world just keeps getting more perplexing, now take the poor fellow at Eden Pines, I know exactly what he is going thru, only my problem was the exact opposite of his, I wanted to inhabit an area where parties were almost on a continual basis, whore houses were common and the whole area was a pretty much do-it-if-you-can-think-it place. I found what I was looking for then, don’t you just know, here comes a covey of social planners, know-what-is-best-for-you types and poof, there goes the neighborhood. Now all that is left is the sounding of an occasional passing car, and my biggest concern is what’s for dinner or maybe trimming my toe nails. It seems they just can’t let things be. There’s always some group of experts coming along to gum up the works.
On this day in 1963 Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas, and Hankshaw Hawkins were killed in a plane crash.

[Ukraine] Putin says he’s sending in the troops to Crimea to protect the citizens there from the protesters 350 miles away in Kiev. He must think the protesters are going to get on busses and drive down there and attack the Crimeans with their signs and banners.

[Smog] China’s Premier couldn’t see down the street so when addressing ‘Congress’ declared war on pollution. When China decides to do something they usually do it big time. I think the Premier will shortly be able to see the end of his street.

[Homeless] I think a lot of the homeless belong in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs since they are intended to treat alcohol and/or drug dependency.

If the One Human Family cares so much about them then the cost of participating in one of these programs and the method of treatment which range significantly won’t matter.

Perhaps those folks can take care of them.  Residential rehab programs (not outpatient programs) are always welcome in everyone’s neighborhood (sarcasm here).   Access to Recovery (ATR) Grant programs for substance abuse treatment are available.  There are too many of them in Marathon and way too many of them in KW.

Where are we supposed to do laundry here on BPK?  No laundromat and now Seahorse Trailer Park arrest you for stealing towels.

[Sewers] I voted for the 1 cent sales tax extension to pay for a proper sewer system not some cobbled together grinder pump fiasco. We’ve been deceived. No one told us they were going to use the money for anything else before we got our first class sewers.

[Sewers] FKAA’s rep has been knocking on doors soliciting grinder pump station easements and telling people that Loxahatchee, FL has a good working grinder pump sewer. So my friend called and spoke to the man in charge of sewers there. For larger homes they require a duplex system because they observed that when there are larger social gatherings like Super Bowl parties, and drinking, too many flushes could not be handled by the single grinder pumps and overflows occurred. That would sure spoil the mood. Say No Way to grinders.

Flood insurance rate increase!  In January the US  Senate passed legislation to delay steep increases in homeowners’ federal flood insurance premiums, which were put in place less than two years ago to “stabilize” the federal flood insurance program. The bill would delay the rate increases for four years while the Federal Emergency Management Agency completes an affordability study and certifies that new maps of flood zones are scientifically based. The vote was 67-32, with strong bipartisan support. But Obama released a statement that he opposed the bill.

flood15Just a few days ago Republican House Leadership announced that it supported the bill, but found it necessary to delay passage of the bill because the delay was needed to make technical changes in the legislation, but the holdup appears to stem from Democratic opposition to the bill.

President Obama has opposed previous efforts to stop the rate hikes, and his simpering sycophant Charlie Crist has been completely silent on the matter. Even though the looming rate hikes will be a genuine catastrophe for many Floridians, and especially for Keys residents, Crist remains silent.

Governor Scott has urged a delay in the implementation of the high rates and a new actuarial study. Floridians have paid out 4 times more in insurance payments than they have received in claim payments.  Governor Scott has resisted the increase and has urged President Obama to stop these devastating increases. But Obama has refused. It’s just another example of Governor Scott leading where President Obama and Democrats have failed.  Deer Friends, it’s inconceivable that Charlie Crist, wannabee newly Democrat governor, has not come out in opposition to this increase.   But perhaps we can learn something from his 2009 approval of a 14.8% State Farm rate increase by saying: “(the rate increase) is much smaller and will create more choice for the consumer while retaining thousands of Florida policy holders. I applaud Commissioner McCarty.”
