clueless27[Clueless Sewer People] I received a letter from the County on November 1, 2011 telling me I was too far off the main sewer line so I needed a shit plant of my own and to contact a company in Tallahassee or someplace for more info to get it installed. I did. They never heard of Big Pine Key and didn’t know what I was talking about.

Today I called FKAA to find out what I needed to have installed and the man (Josh) said he didn’t know, he said that it was up to the Health Department to decide what system I must have. He gave me the number for Jane at the Health Department. I called Jane. She didn’t know either. She said to call Josh at FKAA and that he would know.

It’s been at least ten years and still no one knows what’s going on. It was a major mistake letting FKAA run the show. From past experience in getting water connected to my remote property I believe they are incompetent and their management clueless. ~b33043outlook.com

Stick and Stein is closing after 38 years. One of the few low-life bars in Key West is closing due to road construction and a new law prohibiting Internet gambling. Oh, well, there’s always that other bar behind Sherwin Williams.

[Wayward Hound] I would like to send out a huge thank you to the man on the motorcycle who took the time to turn around and help return our wayward hound home. This was on SR4A on Little Torch a couple of days ago. One of our girls likes to race certain vehicles along the fence. This particular day, she tripped over our littlest one, tumbled head over heels at full speed crashing into the fence and actually rolled under it. First time in all the years we’ve been here. Once she’s out, all bets are off and away she goes. He must have seen her and was kind enough to lead her back before we could get the car to bring her home. Thanks again. We really appreciated it!

[Insurance Scam] 7.5% windstorm insurance increase with no claims in 10 years! Who has control of this? Where did the premiums paid go with no payouts? Why do they need more money if they just took and never gave? Wilma was the last hurricane that hit near the Keys and no wind damage was recorded. Only flood, not included in wind insurance. I guess they just want us to bend over again. My advice is to ay off your house ASAP.

an_memoryI am truly saddened to hear of the passing of John Ulchar. I first met John when I began my DirecTV business here in the Keys. There was something about John that always made me laugh. I always used to tease him about looking so good and in shape for his age. “I wanna look just like you, when I grow up.” I used to tell him that all the time.

My philosophy is that  man thinks he can create energy out of nothing. But in reality, man takes one form of energy and transforms it into an energy man needs. This is the same with us. We don’t die. We just transform into the original energy we came from — from the beginning.

I’m going to greatly miss John Ulchar, he truly was a good, gentle man, and it was a true honor to have known him in my lifetime. My condolences to his family and the many friends John had. ~SammySam

[Planned Burns Meetings] The Florida Keys National Wildlife  Refuge Complex will host two meetings  on July 9 to discuss upcoming habitat  and fire management planning activities, as well as planned burns for the  2013 prescribed fire season.  The first will be held 1 to 3 p.m. at Refuge Headquarters, 28950 Watson  Blvd.; the second will be 6 to 8 p.m.  at the Big Pine Key United Methodist  Church Community Building, 280 Key  Deer Blvd. Refuge biologists and fire staff will  be on hand at both to talk about the  upcoming Habitat Management  Planning process, proposed revisions  to the Fire Management Plan, and 2013  prescribed burn focus areas. The public is encouraged to attend. Bulletin Board

[Climate Fail] Sadly, this is just more data mining. Note the sidebar on that same website that in Early Spring (for all measured macro-sites), there is a drastic reduction of snowpack. It would seem that we are melting off any minimal gains in the first part of the winter with a rapid heating and melt off of snow in the latter stages. Link

[More bleach in the gene pool] Expectant North Carolina parents Adam and Heather Barrington who is due in July, have disclosed that they will accept underwater midwifing from the Sirius Institute of Pahoa, Hawaii, which arranges for the mother to swim with dolphins pre- and post- natally. “It is about reconnecting as humans with the dolphins so we can learn from one another,” said Heather. Said Adam, “Dolphins are very intelligent and healing, which calms mother and baby. ” Biologists writing for the Discovery Channel, however, reminded readers that underwater births are extraordinarily dangerous and that dolphins are wild animals that gang-rape female dolphins and toss, beat and kill small porpoises. Said another, the Barringtons’ plan is possibly the worst idea ever.

[Sewer questions] How far apart are the lift stations required in the gravity system? (The `big pipe` can work so long as gravity and lift pumps within that pipe system also work.) How much do those pumps cost to install / replace after say a Wilma type event? What is the lift station pump’s expected lifespan in this environment?

I don’t think the folks scheduled for a grinder system were originally to have any choice but to install an onsite aerobic system to meet the sewer mandate. If you had to choose between a grinder system or an onsite aerobic system which do you want?

You might think that the ammo makers are having a field day with the panic buying, but surges like this aren’t quite the windfall that you might think they are for the ammo industry. The ammo makers are turning out ammo as fast as they can, some of the big name ammo makers I’ve talked to are literally running 24/7.

I am happy that my neighbors and fellow Keys residents have the ability to defend themselves and me, someone who does not have a gun, if I need help.

It looks like we are  going to get it up the poop shoot again with this sewer fiasco just like the Route 1 crap, and the Zipline crap and other pet projects. No matter who or what we say about the sewer pipe, they will do what they damn well please for their profit. How does it feel sheeple to know you gave jobs to these people and they turned into kings and queens? Anybody have a list of who runs the FKAA so we can write a thank you note for their fine performance? Maybe I will just send them a few bags of… nah, that would be stooping to their toilet level!

[Science Not Politics] In reference to the climate change deniers (not a skeptic, as skepticism requires knowledge) who have been referencing misleading observations in the area of climate change. Let me use this example from yesterday’s Telegraph. The denier tries to discredit climate change by referencing a study by Rutgers University showing increases in snowfall, to a person without knowledge that would seem to stand in the face of climate change and global warming.

The problem with that assumption is global warming models do in fact predict stronger storms as increases in sea surface temperatures will add more moisture to storms as storms on the east coast get there energy from the Atlantic ocean and storms in the midsection of the country get there energy from the Gulf of Mexico. No one is predicting winter storms will no longer produce snow. I have seen other deniers state similarly misleading statements such as we have just gone through the longest period of time without a major hurricane hitting USA, but as we all know there have been record numbers of major hurricanes during that period, just none have hit USA. Climate change does not affect a hurricane’s path, just intensity. This is why conscious is necessary and why only the scientist who predict climate change seek conscious and the deniers rely on misleading information. Read a study by NOAA if you want an unbiased account by the leading scientist in the world. Link

[Conspiracy Man] It has been revealed that DARPA, has the ability to hack into your vehicles computer and override all functions while you’re driving your vehicle. DARPA can control your speed, brakes and anything that functions from your vehicles computer. This is truly frightening! Could this be related to the mysterious circumstances concerning the sudden death of Rolling Stone magazine journalist, Michael Hastings, just the other day?

Could it be possible that the ridiculous scandal concerning PaulaDeen is a diversion, conducted by the government, intelligence agencies and the controlled media, so that we don’t focus on the mysterious, controversial, and sudden death of this 33 year old reporter?

A friend of Michael Hastings told Fox News today that the Rolling Stone journalist was working on the “the biggest story yet” about the CIA, and Afghanistan before his suspicious death and that Hastings drove “like a grandma,” making it extremely out of character for him to be speeding in the early hours of the morning. I still have the chronicle of that Christmas Island field hospital miracle.

I drove to Key West and Office Max wouldn’t scan them because they said they were copyrighted. Does anyone have a large format scanner who is willing to scan all 9 remaining issues before they completely turn brown and crumble and are lost forever?)

tick27[Key Lyme Disease] This reminds me of another place with lots of deer: The Lyme disease rate is growing. So is the battle over how to treat it. “Today, deer are no longer exotic in the Hudson Valley, and the area has the highest rate of Lyme disease in the country. If you drive the back roads of Columbia County at dusk, deer are nearly impossible to avoid, and accidents are common. Ticks are constantly on residents’ minds, and watching children run barefoot to the edge of the bucolic woods is no longer a carefree delight. Deer are not Ixodes’s most important host, but they have come to symbolize the spread of Lyme, and represent an ecology that has changed dramatically in the past thirty-five years.” Link

New York City plans to enact a far-reaching ban on the sale of large sodas and other sugary drinks at restaurants, movie theaters and street carts.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s food police have struck again! Outlawed are food donations to homeless shelters because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Oreo cookies should be banned from sale to children in California, according to a lawsuit filed by a San Francisco attorney who claims that fat — the stuff that makes the chocolate cookies crisp and their filling creamy — is so dangerous children shouldn’t eat it.

The Chicago Tribune reported Monday that Chicago public schools have banned bag lunches…to protect the kids from their parents “unhealthful” food choices.

Michelle Obama’s signature 2010 legislation, the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (HHFK), included rules that banned some foods, such as whole and 2 percent milk, and rationed others, such as potatoes and peas. From Wisconsin to Kansas, student athletes, in particular, are complaining the 850-calorie lunch limit embodied in nacho plates containing eight tortilla chips just doesn’t provide enough food for their growing, hard-working bodies.

[Sewers] On Tuesday a poster put up a post implying that the grinder pumps were being made by part of the Bubba System located in Marathon. I followed his link and found a NYSE listed company with offices in several states. Why would anyone want to mislead this way?
religion politics zone

A  hell of a day for Righties on yesterday’s (2 days ago–see explanation towards bottom of post) Telegraph. Much more BS than usual.

Let’s start with this nut: “Girl Scouts forced to sell cookies to fund hundreds of millions in leftist pension plans. Who could have imagined just a few short years after leftists hijacked The Girl Scouts of America and began using our children as propaganda tools for their leftist agenda.”

Egad! Folks on the Right just want to tear apart any organization that starts becoming all-inclusive. The poster gave us a link to FOX NY for the article. FOX News has been bashing the Girl Scouts for quite some time now. The following is an example of the thought process typical of people like our crazy-pants-Girl-Scout-bashing poster from yesterday.

“The Girl Scouts have filled their National Leadership Team and Board of Directors with unwavering ideologues whose careers, non-profit work and philanthropic choices reflect a hefty commitment to liberal causes – same-sex marriage, gay and lesbian rights, abortion rights, comprehensive sex education and ‘girl power’ feminism,” reports Mary Hasson for the Catholic News Agency.

Geez. …

Then there was the guy who posted this:  “Will someone on the Left explain to me how your version of government has the authority to to tell us what we can and can’t put in our mouths? and not what we can or can’t put in our vaginas or asses?

If this guy can’t tell the difference between regulating foods and mandatory, invasive, transvaginal ultrasounds for women who want abortions, then he’s already a lost cause. I suspect that if you took a CAT scan of this poster’s brain, it would generate an image of a monkey with a bucket stuck on its head running into a tree. But I’ll tell him this, he can absolutely shove anything he’d like up his ass and I’d fight for his right to do so. I might even have some suggestions for him.

Also we had this poster: “Liberals, you may want to move on to the next post,  this one contains science content.”

This is probably the same guy on this site that keeps trying to reclaim science for the Right. Not going to happen. It’s like if cigarettes tried to reclaim being part of a healthy regimen. (I refer you to the doctors-endorsing-Camels ad campaign of the 1950’s) The right doesn’t care much for facts & figures they can’t make up. Hell, FOX News admitted they could falsify the news back during the Jane Akre/Steve Wilson court case.

Then there was this gem: “Where do we send money to help Zimmerman?”
Send it C/O WTF is Wrong With You Inc.
1625 Delusional Road
Jellybrain, Florida, 30409

Rightly, that night should have ended the minute the 911 operator told Zimmerman not to pursue Martin. But some people don’t care about that, they just care about what the kid was wearing and what he had on his Facebook page. Yeah, sure deserved to die for that  I reckon.

Lets face facts, the Righties are going to continue to post a billion things here on the CT because many of them (not all), are ignorant, but they are very dedicated to ignorance. What they lack in critical thinking, they make up for in obsessiveness. I post on the Coconut Telegraph every so often, but I’d hate to think my life would become a sad spiral of railing daily against people that thought differently from me. As a matter of fact, every instance of “yesterday” in my post, replace with “2 days ago” because after writing most of this, I realized I had more important things to do the day before and didn’t give it a second thought until just now when today’s CT was updated.

Republicans want things like they were when they were growing up and can’t let go of the past. That’s their problem in a nutshell. They cling to how things were and have a harder time adjusting to the present than the rest of us.

[Gay Marriage] See the Democrats who voted for DOMA when they believed it best served their communities (and correctly believed that support for DOMA would get democrats to vote for them)and who now pretend to oppose it out of a political expediency (and correctly believe that pretending to oppose DOMA would get democrats to vote for them)It a great list includes the likes of Harry Reid, Chuck Shumer, Joe Biden, Max Baucus, Carl Levin and John Rockafeller. Oh yea let’s not forget the Clintons. That’s right both of them.

(Ed: Deer Posters, Our esteemed From The Right Guy thinks that the new logo [at the bottom] looks like he’s going to the left. He requested I return the [top] image that he says more accurately reflects that he’s from the right. The top one looks to me like he’s coming from the left. The bottom one looks to me like he’s coming from the right. Which one most accurately depicts his right wing opinions. Of course, FTR will have the final say.)

Mendacity-of-Hope-Cover-ArtMethinks I smell mendacity.  Yesterday we read a posting from an Obama supporting critic of poor old FTR. I believe that this poster is a fairly regular contributor. His theme has been that all is well in his life under Obama, and that he and his are thriving. His story line has been that he is employed by a gas drilling company engaging in fracking, probably in Pennsylvania, and that he has been receiving excellent pay. He told us that is a water truck driver. He has told us that he is a happy camper, and credits Mr. Obama. How nice. In yesterday’s posting he told us that his company has bought 3 new trucks at $250,000 each and that the company received a subsidy of about $100,000 per truck. He credits that to some sort of special program that Obama has championed especially for the petroleum and gas industries. For what it’s worth, I’ve never heard of such a subsidy, if it exists I hope that the critic will share the specifics of it with us.

There is so much about that posting that reeks of mendacity. First of all we all know that Obama is a huge enemy of fossil fuels. We know that Obama and especially his green supporters are opponents of fraking. Then we all know that Obama is an enemy of big business. Then we know that Obama and his fans get all frothy mouthed at any mention of subsidies for the petroleum or fossil fuel industries.

On the other hand, if Obama is becoming a supporter of the use of fossil fuels that would be a very good thing. But I doubt it.

You’ve got to wonder how pissed Obama’s green supporters would be if they got even a whiff of the notion that Obama was subsidizing fraking. It wouldn’t be pretty. Or, maybe it would.

I hope our fraking water truck driver will provide us with more specifics concerning the fraking “subsidies” that he wrote of.

pipeline27Part 2) While were thinking of fossil fuels, let’s think about the KeyStone Pipeline.  We all know that Obama and his admin have stubbornly refused to permit the pipeline to be built. We all know that the pipeline would create tens of thousands of jobs and would be an incredible boon to our economy. But, Obama and his people have been staunch opponents of the pipeline. Many have wondered why. Perhaps we have just learned why.

You may not have  heard of Tom Steyer,  he has remained in the shadows.  Steyer is a whale contributor to Obama. And his is a huge aggretor of contributions to Obama He is a key advisor to Obama on things petroleum.  Steyer   has other talents, he is a huge hedge fund operator, his fund, Farralon owns more than $114 million of stock in the company Kinder Morgan, which is currently spending billions to expand its Trans-Mountain Pipeline System. This pipeline runs through Canada and is really the only competition to KeyStone. If and when Obama O.K.’s the KeyStone Pipeline, Steyer will lose many millions. He will not be a happy camper, it will not be a good thing for Obama. On the other hand if KeyStone is killed, Steyer will make millions or more. Did I mention that Steyer held a $5k per person fund raiser at his home for Obama. Obama owes Steyer..
