Recently I saw a post about some group called Rising Tide. I did some internet research which did not provide any information.  And based on their post, I was not inclined to give them any credence or audience.

Then today I saw on Sloan’s blog that somebody with a Rising Tide email address sent Sloan an email saying Rising Tide did not want Sloan in it’s group, and did not want any more communications with Sloan.  All because he asked them to identify themselves.  That’s pretty laughable. They’re scared of Sloan. So, in Sloan’s place,  I’m asking my fellow CT readers – anybody know the names behind Rising Tide?  Or why their secrecy?

And after reading Rising Tide’s hostile (my opinion of their words) comments, my original instinct was right.

[Poop Plant] To the person that is required to install a new poop plant where the current septic plant is, no problem we just did it here on Big Pine.  You simply have to hire a reputable contractor that can get everything in order, and for just $25,000, they can do the switch in approximately four hours.  That means if you can now afford to, you could either go to a movie, or simply watch your money going into the hole in the ground like I did.  Come to think of it you may not want to do the later because it ended up being a very sad day.

[City Electric Stacks] Nice pic. It reminds me of the old days when I lived on Eaton Street. We were constantly getting dust on our blinds, skin, cars, etc.. One at a time, as the smoke stacks faltered, they were shut down until it was no longer feasible to keep it up and running. The electric companies, according to scorecard.org, are one of the biggest environmental pollution sources in the Florida Keys.

[Cat Season] Nothing stirs my creative juices more than stupidity. On the radio this morning I hear they are again targeting the cats. When they did their studies why did they not ask the people who have first hand knowledge of cats, birds, raccoons and the marsh rabbit history, here in the Florida Keys. Is there really another agenda they are not telling you about? Their actions are upsetting the environmental chain as well as promoting the sickos who kill and abuse animals.

It sounded like a joke when the news first hit in 2000: Giant Burmese pythons were invading the Everglades. Now scientists have measured the real impact of the arrival of this voracious species, and the news is troubling. Marsh rabbits are no longer found. Sightings of raccoons down 99.3%. according to the National Academy of Sciences.   Gee, maybe the Keys cats are the real culprits!  Here is a link of the dangerous cats.

[Cat Predation] Do you believe everything you read? Were you even here a half century ago when cats were living fine along side Marsh rabbits. When I was able to breed domestic rabbits with Marsh rabbits. When Marsh rabbits were all up and down US hwy 1 and down most side streets. When a Marsh rabbit wanted to breed with a domestic rabbit they would dig a hole next to the domestic rabbits home. The results were a stronger rabbit. It is like the protection of the Key deer. They protect the land, not the Key deer. Its all about money. On more than one occasion I have offered to put them in contact with my associates at a big Zoo where they could place some of these Marsh rabbits and really help save them. [Gunbrella] Canadian police urged the public to think twice about walking around on rainy days carrying an umbrella made to look like a rifle. The harmless but alarming umbrella brought police to a bus stop in Richmond, B.C., after commuters saw a man who appeared to have a genuine rifle over his shoulder. There were some tense moments as the mistake was sorted out, and police said things could have ended tragically had the man made a sudden move, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. “If it appeared that he was actually shouldering the rifle; if our officers believed he was about to fireI mean, our officers would have no choice,” said Richmond RCMP Sgt. Sherrdean Turley. CBC News said the store where the so-called gunbrella was sold decided to discontinue the line.

[USDA kills endangered Mexican Gray Wolf] The US Fish and Wildlife Service and USDA have contrived a way to shoot yet another endangered Mexican gray wolf, one of only 58 in the wild. Wolf F118, head of the Fox Mountain pack, is one of only six successful wild mothers, but the agencies announced that they would shoot her by Friday. The Fish and Wildlife Service has a long history of accidentally on purpose lowering this species’ survival chances. After this wolf is shot, they will have killed 13 on purpose,  18 on accident during capture, placed 32 in captivity and let ranchers kill 43 illegally  without much fuss. The federal government has wasted more Mexican wolves than it has saved.

[Cat Predation]  There’s an old axiom that “figures lie and liars figure”.  Yesterday’s post relating to feral cats and marsh rabbits was an excellent example.

The poster stated that a 1999 study indicated that cats had wiped out 53% of marsh rabbits.  Either he/she did not read the study, was incapable of interpreting the data, or was being intentionally misleading.

What the study actually says is that 53% of the dead marsh rabbits that were examined were attributed to predation by cats, not 53% of all marsh rabbits.  If he/she had taken the time to read further, he/she would have discovered that the 53% figure included not only those the researchers attributed to cats, but those included in the “Other Causes” category as well.  Additionally, the study is only guessing that the rabbits were even the victims of cats.  The reality is that there has never been a single credible observation of a cat even attacking a marsh rabbit, much less killing one.

[Welfare] These 11 States now have More People on Welfare than they do Employed Last month, the Senate Budget Committee reports that in fiscal year 2011, between food stamps, housing support, child care, Medicaid and other benefits, the average U.S. household below the poverty line received $168.00 a day in government support. What’s the problem with that much support? Well, the median household income in America is just over $50,000, which averages out to $137.13 a day. To put it another way, being on welfare now pays the equivalent of $30.00 an hour for a 40-hour week, while the average job pays $25.00 an hour.

Karl Marx summed up Communism as “from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.” This is a good, pithy saying, which, in practice, has succeeded in bringing upon those under its sway misery, poverty, rape, torture, slavery, and death. For the saying implies but does not name the effective agency of its supposed Utopia–the agency called “The State,” and the motto, fleshed out, for the benefit of the easily confused, must read: “The State will take from each according to his ability: the State will give to each according to his needs. Needs and abilities” are, of course, subjective so the operative statement may be reduced to “the State shall take, the State shall give.” The State makes all decisions. The State is master coercer of men.

FROM THE RIGHTright only grey

an scratch poison ivyIt’s a mystery why the liberal knee jerk reaction to virtually every problem is to pass a law. They seem to hard wired to scratch an itch rather than to actually cure the infection. A classic example is the current left’s hue and cry to “pass a law”. They clamor and shriek that we must pass a law to protect our children from gun violence. Many of these crusaders actually believe that passing yet another law restricting gun ownership will end violence in our schools.  A powerful and persuasive segment of the “pass a law” posse is committed to raping the Second Amendment to our Constitution.

The true believers steadfastly refuse to even think about the notion that the sale of guns is already subject to powerful government control.  Any one of you who has purchased a new gun from a dealer in recent years is fully aware that before the gun can be delivered, a federal background check is required.  Currently it is usually done by phone and the dealer often receives approval within minutes. The check is to determine if the purchaser is a felon, is mentally ill, or has a history of domestic violence.  The purchaser is required to fill in a questionnaire and is required to swear that he/she is not mentally ill, is not a felon, and does not have a history of domestic violence. Please note that there may be more, but as I write this, that’s all I can think of.  If the purchaser lies on the questionnaire, he/she has committed a felony.

So there already is a law, how is it enforced?  It is not.  There are tens of thousands of the background checks conducted every year.  Only about seven tenths of one percent (Link) of the checks results in a turn down for federal permission to buy a gun.  That’s about 700K in the last 10 years. But, even though a law exists, and federal agencies are tasked to enforce it, of all of those thousands of fraudulent hence felonious applications, prosecutions for lying on the document are “rare” if not virtually non-existent. One source claimed that only 13 false questionnaires has resulted in a prosecution. I personally am acquainted with several licensed firearms dealers. They have told me that even on those rare instances wherein the Feds disapprove of the purchase, there is virtually -0- follow up by the Feds. One told me that he has never seen any follow up investigation into people why have lied on the form. Deer Friends, we already have a law. All the feds have to do is enforce it. They refuse. By the way, the serial number, description and purchaser of each gun purchased from a licensed dealer is recorded and is available to the law enforcement and the Feds.

Please give a few moments thought as to how big a new enforcement apparatus will have to be created, please think about the costs. It makes me think of yet another federal boondoggle certain to burn long tons of money for no purpose. Please note that the jurisdictions that have the most severe gun ownership restrictions have the highest crime rates. Please note that after the “assault weapon” ban of the ‘90’s sun-setted, gun violence and deaths and crime all declined.

The only way to be certain that there will be not gun violence is to eradicate all guns.  I mean all guns; even law enforcement would have to be stripped of guns. The military would have to be stripped of guns.  Even if guns were solely in the possession of the state, there would be thefts and losses. Those guns would absolutely hit the black market. All guns, each and every gun would have to be collected and destroyed.  Deer Friends, there are about 270,000,000 privately owned guns in the USA.  Any attempt to collect them, to disarm our citizenry, would result in a catastrophic civil rebellion.  Nonetheless, the liberals are committed to assaulting the Second Amendment by the use of the Chinese “Death by a thousand Cuts”.  They will continue to take a bite and then take a bite there. The notion of seizing all guns is the stuff of fairy tales. It will not happen, ever. For as long as there is a USA, it’s citizens will be bearing firearms.  Unfortunately, under the current admin, I believe that such a move might be entertained, but it will fail. It will fail in it’s execution. Please note that the jurisdictions that have the most severe gun ownership restrictions have the highest crime rates.

Part 2) Apate has just reported that the Republican Mayor of a large mid west city, operating in concert with a Republican City Council, has declared war on abortion and abortion providers. The mayor is moving to take a lead role in the abortion issue. He has identified the banks that do business with the several Planned Parenthood Clinics in his jurisdiction.

The right wing mayor is sending letters to two major financial institutions, TD Bank and Bank of America, which offer lines of credit to abortion providers. In his letter he strongly  suggests that they stop lending money to the clinics unless the clinics change their abortion practices.  Without banking support, Planned Parenthood would be hard pressed to continue to be an abortion provider.

The mayor and the city council have already caused the city government and municipal employees and teachers to divest their money that is in pension funds that invest in businesses doing business with abortion providers.   The mayor wrote the banks: “Now we need you and other commercial banks to join this fight for life. Collectively we can send a clear and unambiguous message to all investors and to private business, that the city will no longer do businesses that support abortion.”

Deer Friends, that damned sure sounds like an abuse of power and unconscionable arm twisting.  What do you think?
