[Health] The plugged “swimming canal” system in Cahill Pines & Palms on Big Pine was shot full of raw sewage and all of the many fish were killed as a result. Most environmental agencies including the “fish kill hotline” were contacted by various homeowners, but instead of an honest response, they merely circled their wagons and tried to call it natural storm damage (months after the surge, and after the water was mostly cleared). The DEP verbally claimed that their test found zero fecal coliform, but after more than a month are unable or unwilling to provide the certified test result. They said that FKAA denied having any causative incident. Of course they did. FKAA typically does not file the required incident reports unless they were witnessed and documented by the public. However, an independent test verified heavy fecal bacteria, directly refuting DEP claims. Somebody knows the truth and it is hoped that they will provide details anonymously. An FKAA employee reportedly admitted that something “kept breaking.”

If somebody would please provide information about the known cause, or of any digging or overflow seen in the area in December or thereabouts, it would be much appreciated. Also, the affected homeowners who now live on an open cesspit with 1000x of high algae content are banding together to demand that the canals be opened or be justly compensated for the serious damage to property values and enjoyment.

If you are willing to provide confidential information, please either post it or respond to canalswim@outlook.com. Also, please contact this email to share information and join the Cahill Pines & Palms neighborhood defense. Any information shared will be stripped of identifying information as to the source. Thank you!

[Not Allowed To Repair Home] A group of people victimized by the County’s “Substantially damaged” rule have reportedly hired an attorney to challenge the legality of it. I have several friends who wish to join the challenge, so if someone can provide a contact, it would be much appreciated.
I have to agree that this is another “color of law” ordinance that violates Constitutional rights and constitutes a “taking”. Just because your home was damaged, you are not allowed to repair it and instead have to demolish it and build something you cannot afford? And insurance will not cover the loss? That seems to be a very clear “taking” to me.
[Nuke Hawaii] I did a little research on what Hawaii would experience in the event of a nuke attack and found some truth along with a couple good resources. This article, What A Nuclear Missile Attack On Hawaii Would Look Like (Link)

comes from an expert on prep. Not a Monroe County expert on preparedness, a real one. The last paragraph says it all. “Civil defense will only make a difference for a small number of people at the margin. But you might be one of those people!” says Lewis. “And so, I would recommend being prepared in the same way that one prepares for other natural disasters — you should shelter much as you would in a tornado or hurricane; you should have water and food much as you do for an earthquake. But we need to keep in mind that the most important thing is not to have a nuclear war in the first place.”

In the article are a couple of links, Nuke Map takes parameters you plug in and shows the expected devastation. Try inserting Key West using both air and land blasts – the results are different for each. Then try your hometown. Link

“Affordable housing” is a buzz word that developers use to get their massive building projects approved along with all their variances. Some people truly believe that this will help less fortunate people have homes.  It would be interesting to have a list of all the affordable housing projects that were built in the Keys and the number of truly affordable units in them as opposed to what was projected in the initial design. You are being played big time if you think this will have much of an impact on the housing situation.  The shrimp farm project is another one to watch. All this housing does is bring more people to the Keys increasing the need for more housing
[Health] Does anyone else have permanent floaters in their vision since living in toxic mold and the candida it causes? Also ringing in the ears constantly which gets louder depending what you eat? The floaters & tinnitus get worse depending what I eat. Even though my diet is strict; clean, fresh, no baked cakes, processed food, etc. It drives me insane, I would give anything for a day with no ear ringing or floaters in the eyes. Funny thing is I have looked up the appearance of mold hyphae and spores and that is what I find. No mistaking it in my vision. Candida and hyphael mold spores. Please tell me it is not just me! It’s so depressing living with continuous daily reminders that my previously perfect health is gone. I should have sued the ass off my old landlord

[Wildlife Refuges Closed] Affected by Federal Government Shutdown. Due to the lapse in federal appropriations, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is unable fully to staff the properties under its management. As of 1200 AM on Saturday, January 20, 2018 the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service closed all facilities and cancelled all planned programs in the Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge on Key Largo, the National Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key and the Key West and Great White Heron National Wildlife Refuges in the lower Keys until further notice as a result of the federal Government Shutdown.  This includes the Refuge’s Visitor Center on Big Pine Key.

Trails within the National Key Deer Refuge that were open prior to the January 20th government shutdown such as the Blue Hole and Watson/Mannillo Trails remain open to the public. Trails closed prior to the government shutdown remain closed. Refuge visitors are advised to use extreme caution if choosing to enter these units of the National Wildlife Refuge System, as FWS personnel including volunteers will not be available to provide guidance, assistance, maintenance, or emergency response on Refuge System property.  Any entry onto Refuge System property during this period of federal government shutdown is at the visitor’s sole risk.

FWS staff will not respond to calls from the public regarding sick or injured Key deer during the government shutdown but the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Dispatch will receive calls as usual and FWC officers will respond as available.  The Key deer hotline remains unchanged at (305) 470-6863 ext. 7.

Following the shutdown being lifted, Refuge updates can be found on our website and Facebook page. Link

[Wildlife Refuges Open] As you have heard on the news, the federal government shutdown has been lifted and therefore all National Wildlife refuge facilities are open as before and planned programs will resume or be rescheduled.  Our website will have all the up to date info. Link

[How I got dragged from bed by one foot this morning]
Wife: Get up! Get out of bed!
Me: NO, STOP! I got a headache!
Wife: where does it hurt?
Me: It hurts real bad when it’s nagging me to get out of bed.

[Health] Please, has anyone had these symptoms? Pins and needles in tongue? My breathing feels slow, and I have severe, unusual type of anxiety.

So the FTR Guy is moving up to the South. No, South Florida is not the South, it’s just an ugly suburb of New Jersey or Ohio. Things you need to know in the South, ice tea is always sweet, and in formal parlance the plural of “y’all” is “all y’all”

[Metal Roofs] At the Sugarloaf Fire House last evening, Heather Carruthers non-verbally confirmed to me that the metal roof ordinance is going to be come law.

I had voiced my opinion to the county commission that I did not think this ordinance was good for the people, neither does the roofing industry. Metal roofs cannot be put on in Monroe County by the homeowner. Hence the homeowner in the future will not be able to make repairs to their own home and will be at the mercy of the contractors and their time restrains for labor and materials. To me, the hidden message is, if you’re not rich and cannot afford a contractor, then we do not want you in the Keys.

If you thought it was hard getting out of the Keys before the storm and harder coming back due to the lack of workers, how much harder will it be when the workers are gone altogether?

[Survivalist] After viewing the Woman’s March photos, I have come to realize those people are the scrounge of society and would not last one day if our country crashed or some hard core disaster happened. what a bunch of ugly losers they are.
[Doughnut Cop] I was hoping someone would submit a better photo of the doughnut box sitting on the roof of the empty Sheriff’s patrol car parked at the Key West entrance to Big Pine. Several people were seen taking photos of the classic joke before the box was removed. For those that missed the hilarious 33 second Trunk Monkey ad involving a cop and doughnut. Video

[Turd World] I guess it’s my warped sense of humor that found this laugh-out-loud funny.

[Naked People Rule] If everybody in the world walked around naked, the only people who would be in charge would be beautiful girls and hung men under 25. The rest of us would fade away and the population would decrease back to the 5% this rock can handle!

This is at my job. I had to leave my house and belongings due to toxic mold. I know not every mold is toxic, but these spots freak me out and I seem to be the only one concerned about it. (Ed: picture won’t display.)
