[Guns] Several years ago, I read that the difference between someone in favor of gun control and someone against it was that the former could not see himself shooting someone in self defense whereas the latter could. There is no value judgment here, some people can see themselves watching Grey’s Anatomy, and others would rather have a root canal.

I fall into the latter category with respect to gun control. Why? Because I am more active than reactive and fear helplessness. Sometimes that’s good, sometimes not. Again, there is no value judgment. I live in a world of violent people, insane people, people who hate me for my beliefs, and people who think of me as a solution to their greed. My fear of being helpless in facing them is stronger than my distaste of violence. So I own a gun.

There’s rumbling that there’s action at Parrotdise. Is there a new watering hole in the works?

[Knees] Stay away from Google before you have surgery. All you read about there are the horror stories.

In my late my  fifties and I first hurt my knee in a fall in the 1970′ s and Aleve became one of my staples. I had a total knee replacement two years ago.
1. I have no pain at all.
2. I could start running again if I wanted to, but my pace would depress me, not because of my knee, but because I got older and out of running shape.
3. I should have had the surgery 10 years earlier. That is pretty much what everybody who had it done told me.
4. The trick is. Rehab. Rehab. Rehab
5. My sister in law had a double replacement. She was never athletic and is like new now. She had her’s a year ago.
6. People say to get a double because you would never do the second after the first. That’s BS. Probably an urban legend passed on by clueless people. If I found out that I needed another, I would do it ASAP.
7. Focus on what you will do after the surgery that you can’t do now.
8. Think of it as trading 6 weeks of down time for a pain free life.

Hello, I am Anita A Fischer/Brouwer and I a writing in response to post on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. I think I added the photo my first time doing this. I would like to contact my family that I lost touch with without posting my phone number or my address on the CT. Thanks!

[IKC Driver Scores] This is for the person in the white car who was speeding on Avenue I Wednesday afternoon. My five year old granddaughter was on the porch and witnessed you hit that iguana. What is wrong with you? If you’re old enough to drive a car you are certainly old enough to realize you shouldn’t be driving that fast on this street. I’ve lived in the Avenues for twelve years and I’ve never even come close to hitting an iguana. Neither has anyone else I know. I guess old enough doesn’t always mean mature enough. Sad when a five year old says, “It’s not nice for a human to kill nature” because that “human” decides not to use a little common sense and slow down on these narrow streets. Honestly, I’m not so sure it was an accident.

[“Electric Stove that wouldn’t boil water”] Are you kidding or just a bad cook? I  had a wife that couldn’t boil water either. A candle will boil water. I think you forgot to turn on the heat because I don’t believe you bought a stove that couldn’t boil water. Did you omit a special detail from yesterday’s post we should know about?

[Suddenly Seeking Jean] I know this is long shot, but I am looking for Jeanne (could be Jean or Jeanie) who was bartender at Capt. Tony’s and attending college in Key West in 1980. She was studying marine biology, I believe, and dating owner of the Fleet Air Wing restaurant. I met her parents, who I think were from the Boston area. I knew Keith, Capt. Tony’s grandson/doorman, Janet, other regulars and workers at the time. Just curious what became of that fun group while having the time of our lives.

[Professional Pool Tables] I was in Coconuts today getting a haircut, & saw that all of the pool tables had new Simonis 860 cloth. Very nice! I hope they put more effort than they have in the past to try to keep drinks off of the rails, or it will get crappy again very soon.

[New kitchen stove] I had a glass top and they are easy to clean but it heats up and cools down slowly and you need really good frying pans that lay very flat to heat evenly, if the heat is too high a cheap pan will warp and get a hump in the middle. Also no more cast iron cookware! Keep the gas.

[Murder For Hire] What kind of idiots do they have in Marathon? How can Ramsay not be surprised Mary Zecca contacted him, after all she and her husband donated to Dick and his son Rick Ramsay campaigns. Its a matter of public record. Of course Dick Ramsay knows her.

The comment “Donated $5,800 to various campaigns, as well as another $800 from the Marathon Marina. ‘Everyone thought that was natural because he was looking to have the City Council go along with some of the modifications they were making down there’” makes it seem our councilmen admit you can’t get anything done by the county unless you pay bribes for it up front.  It is a MarathonCity bribery system and Dick Ramsay said it.

Even more, Wednesday’s Citizen headline spells it out larger “Murder-for-hire probe EXPANDED”.

Federal agents are taking a closer look at the tenure of a former Coast Guard Station Islamorada commanding officer at the center of a murder-for-hire investigation. Dennis Zecca, 51, a retired chief warrant officer and part-owner of Marathon Marina Boatyard, was arrested Dec. 21 on one count of murder-for-hire after he allegedly hired an undercover federal informant to kill Bruce Schmidt.

Ok guys in the FBI and DEA, time to take a hard look at the proposed private Marathon Port of Entry plan by Dick Ramsay and pay close attention to his son Rick Ramsay (Roth 3.0) who can definitely provide the still quite of the night. It’s not just a Roth thing anymore. Be sure your sin will find you out and yes be sure someone will tell, Someone will talk, Someone will sing.  ~enoughcorruption@yahoo.com

teacher-with-guns[Teachers with Guns] Hundreds of Texas, Ohio teachers flock to gun training
By Kim Palmer and Jim Forsyth | Reuters – 19 hrs ago

School teachers in Texas are flocking to free firearms classes and hundreds more in Ohio have signed up for training in the wake of the Connecticut elementary school massacre, some vowing to protect their students with guns even at the risk of losing their jobs.

In Ohio, more than 900 teachers, administrators and school employees signed up for the Buckeye Firearms Association’s newly created, three-day gun training program, the association said.

In Texas, an $85 Concealed Handgun License course offered at no cost to teachers filled 400 spots immediately, forcing the school to offer another class, one instructor said. The two Texas classes graduated about 460 educators.

“Any teacher who is licensed and chooses to be armed should be able to be armed,” said Gerald Valentino, co-founder of the Buckeye Firearms Association. “It should be every teacher’s choice.”

[Wasted Cop Gas] I’ve always wondered why the City of Key West didn’t put a few of their police on bicycles, at least to patrol Old Town. They are way quicker than cars. A much better substitute for the horses too. I guess you’re right. It’s all about ego.

I appreciate the doom and gloom comments on gun control, but rather than try to control gun ownership, why not just beef up the repercussions for using them incorrectly? If you shoot and kill someone in a robbery, for instance, you die. No moldering in tax funded prisons for fifty years keeping the lawyers rich. If they’re smart enough to get through law school make it equally advantageous financially to be psychiatrists.

an gas pan [“I’ve never had a gas range”] Your missing out on a good thing. An electric range, looks nice, it’s flat, minimalistic and easy to clean. But looks are not everything. Electric ranges are terrible to cook with compared to a gas range.

With a gas range, one can set the heat to be precise and consistent, cooks one food evenly and it gives a visual clue by how intense the flame is, the fine control reduces the chances of boil-overs.

On the other hand an electric range has really only two modes, high on and off, which it cycles the frequency of the on/off cycle depending where the dial is set at. So this has a result of cooking your food, then not cooking it, then cooking it again and so forth, making for a less than desirable outcome. One can’t simmer well with a electric stove.

Electric flat top ranges are very touchy about any little thing trapped between the pot/pan and the flat top, a least bit of liquid and you get mini-steam explosions. Also their coils wear out and the glass top gets worn/burned faster, requiring a new range or replacement more frequently to keep the looks up.

Gas ranges will either burn off debris or evaporate it, or it just falls into the catch pan, whose parts are pretty easy to pop into the dishwasher or line with foil or cheaply replace if they get used up. New catch pans and stands will tend to make the gas range look like new again because the wear and tear are placed on replaceable parts instead of permanent glass with electric flat top ranges.

In my opinion, electric stoves are really for those without any source of gas, can’t have an open flame like for cats that can catch fire rubbing up against the pots, (they can live if you can catch them!) or those who don’t do a whole lot of serious cooking.

Any cook or chef worth their salt uses only gas ranges because it can do things that electrics can’t. Once you have one and do a lot of cooking you will loath ever going back to electric.

Call your local propane company and have them set you up, they will also come around regularly and keep you topped off for gas.

Psst: They always work when the power goes off, like after a hurricane

Naval Air Station (NAS) Key West, Military Affairs Committee (MAC) Key West and the City of Key West are hosting this group of heroes as they bicycle from Boca Chica Field at 10:30 a.m. continuing through Key West to the Truman Waterfront, to arrive at noon, where the warriors will be met with a welcoming ceremony. The public is encouraged to line the streets leading to the waterfront to cheer on these warriors, many of whom have just been released from the hospital for serious injuries they sustained during combat. The public will also have a chance to meet these heroes at the ceremony, which will feature a full honor guard and Key West City Mayor Craig Cates and military leaders welcoming the service members to Key West.

After the welcoming ceremony, the public is invited to ride with the veterans on the “Red, White and Blue Ride,” which will help to raise funds for Wounded Warrior Project. The charity ride is $20 and registration for the ride and more info Bulletin Board

A .22 or .32 will pee a person off, but if you hit them in the head it can kill them. In the first Sandbox War our troops were hitting the enemy numerous times with no results. It turns out they were using ammo designed to defeat body armor and the round was going straight thru. Once they started using ball they had way better results.

OrionGEMS_FINALCosmic bullets pierce the outskirts of the Orion Nebula some 1500 light-years distant in this sharp infrared close-up. Blasted out by energetic massive star formation the bullets, relatively dense, hot gas clouds about ten times the size of Pluto’s orbit, are blue in the false color image. Glowing with the light of ionized iron atoms they travel at speeds of hundreds of kilometers per second, their passage traced by yellowish trails of the nebula’s shock-heated hydrogen gas. The cone-shaped wakes are up to a fifth of a light-year long. The detailed image was created using the 8.1 meter Gemini South telescope in Chile with a newly commisioned adaptive optics system (GeMS). Achieving a larger field of view than previous generation adaptive optics, GeMS uses five laser generated guide stars to help compensate for the blurring effects of planet Earth’s atmosphere.

1. A couple of days ago we were blessed with yet another great 1/4 truth moment. After I mentioned the worn out and down right crazy Birther movement our 1/4 truth squad kicked into gear. They told us that the birthergroup is simply a few lone wolves that are using their freedom of expression to try and bring down our President. A noble goal im sure but are they really just a few lone wolves? Ive read online that at 1 time 40% of all republicans believed the President was not an American born citizen. That does not seem like the “Lone Wolf” spiel our 1/4 truther tried selling us. 40% of any group kills the small group designation dont you think?

Now the lone wolves are going after Chief Justice John Roberts for impeachment if he swears in our elected President. Craige McMillan a columnist for the Conservative rag  WND,com asking Roberts to not swear in our elected President because he and his group does not believe that Obama meets the definition of a natural born citizen. McMillan went on to say that if the President was elected it would lead to “Illegal wars, illegal debts and illegal laws”. Of course the birther movement Queen Orly Taitz flew in for the objections board hearing. We all know that theres a much larger group of Republicans that still believe that our President isnt an American and that Hawaii isnt a state.

The scary part is that theres a hell of a lot more believers in that silliness then a few “Lone wolves”. But then when your only qualification needed to make a political  comment is to be 25% accurate you can justify any piece of craziness.

2. The other day I offered a challenge to any Republican to show me just 1 time where our President said that he wants to take away our guns. The right will swear they have heard it and read it and know its been said but they cannot even find 1 quote that says that. Theres a reason folks. He doesnt want your guns and has never said that. You cant post a comment or quote something that was never said. Its a blatant lie. Look back a few days and the only quote you will find about our President talking about taking away your guns was from our own FTR who quoted Obama as saying he wont take them away. He proved my point for me.

Sometimes even the 1/4 truth doesnt make the grade. Talk about your Pachyderm  Poop.

This snot-nosed twerp had never accomplished anything in his life that would even come close to military leadership. He hadn’t even so much as led a Cub Scout troop, coached a sports team, or commanded a military platoon. So he is made the Beloved Leader of North Korea. Terrific!

Oh crap! I’m sorry. I just remembered that we did the same thing. We took an arrogant community organizer, who had never worn a uniform, and made him Commander-in-Chief. The Republican Party is divided between the far right and the extreme right.

Fiscal Cliff put in a much better perspective, lesson 1
* U.S. Tax revenue: $2,170,000,000,000
* Fed budget: $3,820,000,000,000
* New debt: $ 1,650,000,000,000
* National debt: $14,271,000,000,000
* Recent budget cuts: $ 38,500,000,000

Let’s now remove 8 zeros and pretend it’s a household budget using the same numbers:
* Annual family income: $21,700
* Money the family spent: $38,200
* New debt on the credit card: $16,500
* Outstanding balance on the credit card: $142,710
* Total budget cuts so far: $38.50
Easier to understand? OK, now lesson 2, another way to look at the debt ceiling. Let’s say you come home from work and find there has been a sewer backup in your neighborhood and your home has sewage all the way up to your ceilings. What do you think you should do? raise the ceilings, or remove the crap?

FTR, Do you remember your diatribe from yesterday? Yeah, the one about how a ‘dumb shoe’ fits? Well lets just say yours fits well. Let me educate you on a few things your ancient brain cannot and refuses to grasp. This country recently experienced a recession just short of that, in which I’m sure you experienced, as a depression way back in 1929 thru the end of WWII. Unemployment in this country reached a whopping 25 percent! Yes, I said twenty five percent. How high was it this time around?

This time we had safety nets put in place (those of which you are dependent on; you admitted that yourself) to avoid the catastrophic poverty that almost destroyed this country and most of the western world. That in itself would account for “The fact is that during the Obama admin more Americans have become dependent on government largess than any time in our history.” along with the fact that the population of the good old U.S.of A. then was 122,775,046 (census April 1 1930) and now it is what? 308,745,538 (census April 1 2010)? OMG, that’s almost a hundred percent increase in human bodies. That’s just short of 2 USAs in 1930.

Do I wonder why there are more humans dependent now than ever before? I’m befuddled. Can you explain that?

Secondly, I’m not sure that you have actually participated in the real world for quite some time, but with technological advances in industry over the last thirty or so years, the computer has eliminated the need for humans to do many things they used to be employed doing back when you were working. With the advent of the recent recession, most companies were forced to take actions more drastically than they originally planned for in reducing the work force and paying much less for the same productivity.

The future came much faster that anticipated and that was due to nothing but greed, FTR, total greed. And now you’re blaming Obama? And those unemployed, forced retirees? Oh, grant you, there are, and always will be, lazy folks, but you had better wake up and smell the truth. Your paranoia and your know-it-all attitude aren’t cutting it. Come into the light of truth!

[Gun Control] “restricting private gun ownership” and “confiscating our guns” are two different things. The first is necessary and the second is impossible no matter what Right wing blogs say. Obama has never mentioned confiscating our guns. All I’ve read so far is that he wants to restrict certain types of guns, and that is a good thing.

FROM THE RIGHT
right only grey

Even though there are problems confronting our great nation that dwarf the tragedy of Newtown, our politicos are hard charging to use those tragic murders for political gain in order to advance their assault on the Second Amendment. Personally I’m convinced that they are using gun control as a cover for their stubborn refusal to slash spending and to reduce our debt. Going after guns makes them feel good.

You will note that even though there is irrefutable evidence that our crime rate has dropped since the last round of gun control died, our politicos continue to demand the banning of certain types of guns that only cosmetically resemble military weapons. To our Liberal friends, because a gun is similar in appearance to a military weapon, it must be banned. That, Deer Friends is vapidly stupid, but many left fielders buy into it. Our Liberal friends haughtily ignore the fact that the number of mass assaults such as Newtown has been declining while the rate of private gun ownership has increased.

The AP recently published an article, it stated: “Grant Duwe, a criminologist with the Minnesota Department of Corrections who has written a history of mass murders in America, said that while mass shootings rose between the 1960s and the 1990s, they actually dropped in the 2000s. And mass killings actually reached their peak in 1929, according to his data. He estimates that there were 32 in the 1980s, 42 in the 1990s and 26 in the first decade of the century.” “Chances of being killed in a mass shooting, he says, are probably no greater than being struck by lightning.”  I urge you to read the entire article at Link

an scalpelLook, Deer Friends, a scalpel can be a life saver or a life taker. So can a gun. It all depends on the individual holding the scalpel or the gun. Monsters shall always be with us, but in earlier days they were less apt to be able to roam free. I recall vividly as a police officer that in the 60’s and 70’s, persons were routinely committed to mental health care custody when they evinced a clear and present danger to themselves or to others.  In Florida the procedure was called the Baker Act and it required those persons to be taken into custody and that they could be examined for a minimum of 3 days to determine their mental health. Long term involuntary commitment was fairly common.  Today crushing bureaucratic and legal constraints make involuntary commitment infinitely more difficult.   I trust that you will recall the braying of the press that in nearly every instance of mass shooting, it was reported that shooters, prior to their killing spree, evinced threatening and bizarre behavior. You must wonder why the parents, the community, and the police turned a blind eye to it all.

A tiny percentage of the mentally ill become mass killers. Just about everyone around Tucson, Ariz., who knew spree shooter Jared Loughner sensed he was mentally ill and dangerous. But in effect, he had to kill before he could be put away — and (forcibly) treated.  The same thing holds true for the “Joker, James Holmes, and for Newtowns recent mass killer, Adam Lanza.

Random mass killings were three times more common in the 2000s than in the 1980s, when gun laws were actually weaker. And a 2011 University of California at Berkeley study found that states with strong civil commitment laws have about a one-third lower homicide rate.

I urge you to check out all of the above, I urge you to make your feelings on gun control known to our legislators. We don’t need more gun control, it is counter productive to public safety. We desperately need to revisit our mental health practices and our societal addiction to gross violence.  Those two things are the real mass murderers. Lets Baker Act the gun control frenzy and concentrate on slashing our spending and rescuing our economy. Our society is in harms way if we fail to do so.

By the way, what follows proves nothing, but it is interesting: Jared Loughner, Tucson Az. mass murder was described by his peers as being a “left wing pot head”. His parents are both registered Democrats.

Adam Lanza, NewtownConn murderer.  Registered  Democrats outnumber Republicans by about a  2-1 ratio in Connecticut.  The odds are that the Lanza family are Democrats.

James E. Holmes, “The Joker” is reported to be an avid supporter of the Occupy Wall Street Movement and of the Occupy Black Bloc.  The latter is an ultra left wing terrorist organization dedicated to killing cops.  I suggest you do a web search on Occupy Black Bloc, it is spooky and interesting!

Part 2) Here’s something to worry about, but it does explain a lot.  As of last Tuesday only 4 cable shows had more than 2 million viewers. FOX NEWS, O’Reilly had had 2,523,000 viewers, FOX NEWS, Baier had 2,049,000.  But 2,0108,000 viewers got their news from the COMEDY DAILY SHOW.  And 2,085,000 apparently got their news from MTV SNOOKIE.  It is depressing that nearly as many Americans get their news from a comedy show and from an MTV show. But it does explain a lot.

Respectfully submitted,
