lt-palm-reef00After returning from the Sanctuary Advisory Council meeting the other day I took a day to digest the ramifications of what I experienced. The Council set up the room to control and show indifferent superiority to the audience by horse shoeing the room with tables facing towards each other and keeping their backs to the audience. The meeting was chaired by a full time employee of the Nature Conservancy who refused to let the people who had given up their day of work to have their voices heard, speak, even though they advertised that there was to be public comment taken. When they finally submitted to letting a few of the over 150 people in attendance speak, the selection process purposefully selected the least articulate and several others who did not speak English.

One of the lucky few who was allowed to speak attempted to have a representative of his association, who was more knowledgeable and proficient at speaking, speak for him, but was summarily rejected by the Chair.

The zoning maps shown had a best case wish list box showing a complete no take zone for the entire Keys all of the way out to the Wall offshore! That is their goal.

These people are shooting for the moon and when they only take a fraction of what they are proposing they will blow smoke up your ass and tell you that this is a great compromise for all.

Any additional closures in the Keys waters are a 100% win for them and a 100% defeat for the people living here that are having their way of life chipped away. The Sanctuary people will never stop and they are patient.

If I were them I would have been very afraid of the over 150 commercial fishermen and sport fishing captains who were told in no uncertain terms by the Sanctuary to shut up and take any crumbs that they might throw their way.

[“No Name Electric Donations”]  Mr. Thompson has been our neighbor and friend since he built his home prior to his disability. His address can be easily verified on the county’s property appraiser website or the post office who delivers his mail. His disability is real, and his plea for assistance is sincere. This is his only option after exhausting all avenues of seeking financial assistance.

To another poster: Yes, it does cost $30,000 and more from each homeowner before Keys Energy will connect a home on No Name. Please give a donation or constructive advice, if you will. Someone may offer a viable solution and it will be appreciated.

[“Mosquito Term limits”] It is a well known fact that governor Scott would like to abolish all special taxing districts. For term limits to be enacted it would require opening enabling legislation for term limits to be considered and then the governor must sign the new legislation. If the governor does not sign it then the special district ie. mosquito control would no longer exist and must be adsorbed by the county.

It is also known that commissioner Goodman was appointed to the mosquito board by the governor via his wife’s affiliation with the Republican Party and this was his agenda item. Coincidence? or was it his wife’s and governor Scott’s agenda item? If it had not been for this political environment, term limits would have passed for the mosquito board. This agenda item was a back door maneuver to get mosquito control under county control without the taxpayer even knowing it.

As for duplicate services, consider each city or village in Monroe county. Why do we have city governments? Service! If you are for the county taking over mosquito control to save money and eliminate duplicate services then you must be in favor of the county taking over all city services.

I voted for the City of Marathon and am happy to pay extra tax for the service. You really think the County can do a better job for less money than Mosquito Control is doing now? For real?

The Orlando Women’s Clinic has posted a video ad on YouTube that offers a coupon for $100 off the regular price of abortions—on Sundays only. In a video depicting attractive young women posing in fashionable clothing, the ad could pass for one for a destination clothing store, were it not for the occasional “Abortion Clinic $100 off Coupon” line drifting through the images.

The abortion clinic is owned and operated by James Scott Pendergraft, who has a long history of botched abortions and violating the law and his clinic reopened this summer after police initially raided it and shut it down. Video

[“Mosquito Control term limits”] Stop just bitching and do something about it, like attend meetings and voice your opinion or really get brave and run for a seat on the board. It will only cost you a fair amount of money and a significant amount of time from your already very busy schedule. Myself I do not have the time to invest in such an undertaking so I vote for the people I feel will do the best for the taxpayers of Monroe County. I look at it as each one of the board members is on a term limit already, except one who was appointed due to the passing of Dick Rudell, but can run when that term is up.

If they do not do the right thing in the best interest of the taxpayers when their term is finished, I have the power to vote them out. The members of the Mosquito Control Board have been voted in by the people (“By The People” sounds familiar). If you are not happy with what is going on get involved. It’s your right as a taxpayer of this county. But one has to at least vote to make a difference or you are just pissing in the wind.

an_melt polesThe global warming denier had an interesting “story” on the effects of air pollution and global warming, although the link he provided showed no information other than the name of the author who did the study, the conclusion he (or someone he was quoting) stated was opposite of what the author concluded, the denier stated “surface temperature dipped in the 1970′s due to an increase in air pollution, prompting fears of an ice age, followed by concerns of global warming as the air got cleaner after pollution laws and controls were put in place.”

However Prof Colin O’Dowd, professor of physics at Galway whom was the subject of his post stated, “We have been studying the interaction between air pollution and climate change with a focus on aerosols and particulate matter…greenhouse gas emissions are rising which are leading to global warming. But pollution is rising too and this is masking the greenhouse effect.”

You see, he is saying global warming is actually worse than we suspect. No one ever said that air pollution has gone down as the poster states. Another case of misleading information by a global warming denier. Link

gop_backwardsConservatives are no longer being called Conservatives. Many people have now renamed them Regressives. They are not conservative in their thinking anymore. They only want our country to go backwards–regress. They are regressive on women’s rights. They want to go back before Roe v Wade. Many have said they would like to go back before birth control! The Regressives do not want women to have equal pay and they are against women’s clinics. The Regressives have stated that they would like to remove the minimum wage, the Dept. of Education and 4 others ( what are they again….oops!). Infrastructure isn’t important. They want no part of stem cell research and the Affordable Healthcare Act. The Regressives are against unions. The Regressives would be happy if there wasn’t any food stamp program, Medicaid or Social Security as we know it. They have recently cut funds to millions of children in Head Start.

The Regressives believe that Science is a hoax when it comes to climate change and they believe the Earth was created in 6 days. I have even heard Regressives say the Earth is only 6000 years old. Regressives are worried that the white population in America will soon become the minority and are anxious to close the gates, fast. They are intolerant to other religions. The Regressives cheered during the past debates when the Governor of Texas bragged about killing the most people in Capital Punishment. Didn’t they do that in the Middle Ages when they hung people in the village square? Regressives are not conservative. They want to take our country backwards. They even want to take us back to the Wild West days of everyone walking around with guns in holsters. Regressives think that its okay to “stop and frisk”. Have they not learned anything from the days when the Nazis used to stop and frisk the Jews on the street?

Maybe they haven’t heard that America is no longer first in anything in the world anymore except for the number of guns, the military and the number of people in prisons. We are far down the list in the quality of healthcare, infant mortality and education. Is this the kind of country they want? The Regressives have it wrong. I can understand the concept of Conservatism. Being cautious and moving slowly forward is acceptable. Moving backwards is not acceptable. All Republicans are not Regressives. Republicans are losing members of the Party because they hold on to the old Party values. They cannot agree with this extreme regressive craziness. When the older generation hands our government over to the younger generation, eventually, this regression will go away.

I’m one of the older folks who doesn’t want to go backwards. I love my country and want to see it be #1 again and move forward in science and compassion for our fellow man. Never backwards….never regression.

Why is it that certain people always have to link politics to everything? The ’72 Dolphins were deservedly honored as a team. And as we were all taught, there is no I in team. No one deserves a “tip of the fedora” for turning their back on their teammates, no matter what their political view is. This only furthers the divide among us and maybe that’s the intention, but enough is enough! A lot of us lived and died with that team in that season and it was a time to celebrate, to remember a time past when everything was a lot more fun and sports were sports and politics were politics.

[Hate] One of the two students removed from Oberlin College earlier this year for allegedly circulating virulently racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages around campus  is an ardent leftist and committed supporter of President Obama.

The Oberlin Police Department identified Bleier and his partner in the spree, Matt Alden, as two of the principal architects of a month-long spate of racist, anti-Jewish and anti-gay messages at the small, private campus. Dylan Bleier describes himself as an “atheist/pacifist/environmentalist/libertarian socialist/consequentialist.”

On his now-defunct LinkedIn page, Bleier noted that he was the founder and president of the Ithaca High School for Obama club. He also identified himself as a member of the Oberlin College Democrats. This is Americas left. Intolerant ignorant hater bigots. This is the progressive utopia. Our children aren’t born this way. This is purposely taught. This is violent leftist cult indoctrination. It is time for decency to punch back.

First off don’t get me wrong. Im not saying that all Republicans are out there where the busses don’t run but their main leaders and political minions are. Weve all heard the wackiness of their Vice Presidential candidate “The Donalds” bit of crazy but Limbaugh may be slanting off into another realm.

Limbaugh is blaming our President for the track of the hurricane that bumped the Republican national convention for a day. Heres his exact words. “I noticed that the hurricane centers track is – and im not alleging conspiracies here. The hurricane center is the regime: the hurricane center is the commerce department. Its the government. Im noticing that the track stayed zeroed in on Tampa day after day”.

Dear Rush. Youre right. The hurricane track should have gone off of where it was going and should have been switched to I don’t know, Arizona maybe. I love Republicans more and more everyday. Entertainment value is the best deal in town.

In Alabama, there’s now a law that any student in one of the state’s 78 failing schools may be permitted to escape to a non-failing school. $3500 is provided as partial (or full) payment of any costs that might be associated with such a move. The Southern Poverty Law Center is suing the state to block this scheme. Their stated claim is this: They found eight families who say $3500 isn’t enough to get their kids the help they need and hence the law is “discriminatory,” and ergo is unconstitutional. So all children must continue to suffer with those eight.

an_starfish2Most people know the story of the boy who was rescuing sea stars that had washed up on a beach by throwing them back into the ocean. When a man scoffed to the boy that his efforts didn’t make a difference since he couldn’t save all of them, the boy tossed another sea star back into the ocean and replied, “It made a difference to that one.” The little-known ending to the story is that the boy was sued by the Southern Poverty Law Center for violating the Constitution’s Equal Protection clause.

Let All Men Be Brought Low, so that we might all be equal upon our backs or bellies. We shall all find equality in the dirt or sand if you are a sea star.

Fox News ought to make up it’s mind. Does it want an armed rebellion by the NRA/TEA Party against the US Government or an all out race war?  Perhaps Hannity, O’reilly and their fellow travelers can find a way to combine the two.

On the subject of the NSA tapping all our communication Obama said some thing to the effect that we can trust the government. ha

[The Evil Empire] The USA publicly says we’re for democracy, but we’re usually just paying lip service to keep the sheeple quiet for our dastardly actions overseas. Case in point: The generals of the Egyptian Army deposed the democratically elected President, the democratically elected President in a coup d’etat and what is Washington’s response? Obama is giving the generals over a billion dollars. It seems we only support democracy when we like who’s elected.

from the right

I rarely read Salon.com, but an article by Camille Paglia caught my eye, and it is really worth your time to read it. Democrat or Republican, the article is worth your time. I apologize for not condensing it, but it is as lean as it can be. Paglia is professor and a social critic.  She is a self-described dissident feminist.

camilla22Camille Paglia wrote: “As a registered Democrat, I am praying for a credible presidential candidate to emerge from the younger tier of politicians in their late 40s. A governor with executive experience would be ideal. It’s time to put my baby-boom generation out to pasture! We’ve had our day and managed to muck up a hell of a lot. It remains baffling how anyone would think that Hillary Clinton (born the same year as me) is our party’s best chance. She has more sooty baggage than a 90-car freight train. And what exactly has she ever accomplished — beyond bullishly covering for her philandering husband? She’s certainly busy, busy and ever on the move — with the tunnel-vision workaholism of someone trying to blot out uncomfortable private thoughts.”

“I for one think it was a very big deal that our ambassador was murdered in Benghazi. In saying “I take responsibility” for it as secretary of state, Hillary should have resigned immediately. The weak response by the Obama administration to that tragedy has given a huge opening to Republicans in the next presidential election. The impression has been amply given that Benghazi was treated as a public relations matter to massage rather than as the major and outrageous attack on the U.S. that it was.”

“Throughout history, ambassadors have always been symbolic incarnations of the sovereignty of their nations and the dignity of their leaders. It’s even a key motif in “King Lear.” As far as I’m concerned, Hillary disqualified herself for the presidency in that fist-pounding moment at a congressional hearing when she said, “What difference does it make what we knew and when we knew it, Senator?” Democrats have got to shake off the Clinton albatross and find new blood. The escalating instability not just in Egypt but throughout the Mideast is very ominous. There is a clash of cultures brewing in the world that may take a century or more to resolve — and there is no guarantee that the secular West will win.” Link

If Ms. Clinton’s putative candidacy is held in such low esteem by a leading member of the intellectual elite, one of the foundation stones of Democrat presidential candidates,  she is in deep trouble.

trash22Part 2) Scary revelations yesterday in a WSJ article that reports that NSA has the ability to spy on 75% of all internet traffic. WSJ reported that even though the NSA spying system is designed to capture communications that either start or end abroad, or happen to pass through the U.S. between foreign countries, NSA’s reach is so broad that it is likely purely domestic communications are being captured.

NSA also disclosed that it gathers some 250 million internet communications each year, with some 9 percent from these “upstream” channels, amounting to between 20 million to 25 million emails a year. The agency used statistical analysis to estimate that of those, possibly as many as 56,000 Internet communications collected were sent by Americans or persons in the U.S. with no connection to terrorism.

Those revelations tell us that the reach of the Federal Government is much, much broader than we ever imagined that it was. It’s scary as hell.   Especially when you think about the fact that Team Obama will not even claim that this massive data spying has accomplished a damned thing.  Has a single act of terrorism been foiled?  How many billions of tax dollars have we spent? How many more Constitutional guarantees are we willing to surrender?

Whoops, I almost forgot to mention that the FISA Court, the Court specifically charged with the responsibility of oversight, of the NSA program declared that: “For the first time the Government has now advised the Court that the volume and nature of information that it has been collecting is fundamentally different from what the Court had been led to believe”.  That’s a quote from FISA Judge John D. Bates.  We must get this government back in check.  Link
