[Summerland Key business access-oceanside] To the powers in charge, please make a smooth transition from US1 to the business parking lots. Now you go down from US1 and up to a V ditch then down out of the ditch and up onto the sidewalk and then up into the parking lot. Apparently not a lot of thought went into the design. This poor quality design is making it difficult for business owners, their staff and their customers to conduct business.

doom and gloom(Ed: I don’t believe it myself, but my computer broke again. They are sending me the 6th motherboard! And another power supply. I think the Intel processor is doing something to upset the balance of things good. I think it’s been the processor all along, but actually this time I think it is the power supply by all indications. The extended warranty expires this summer. I’ll buy a workstation at that time. In the meantime I have an old hamster-driven PC that I set up last month while the motherboard was being replaced for the fifth time. So it the CT is late getting out today.
P.S. 12:32 pm. After gathering and editing all the posts and pictures I’m not able to access the bowels of my website in order to post it all. I’m on tech support as I write this so the CT will be very, very late today. I hate computers and Mondays.)

There is a ferry boat to Pigeon Key that has been costing us taxpayers $250,000 a year for some time now.  It is rarely seen because it mostly stays tied to the dock hidden by the old train.  What a sweet deal for someone.  Hope they buy American.
profit bag22[Bailouts Profitable] Six years after President George W. Bush began the auto bailout, the Obama administration on Friday declared a profitable end to the sweeping federal interventions in Wall Street and Detroit, saying a final sale of stock from General Motors’ former finance arm had closed a turbulent chapter of the financial crisis. The ailing US postal system is not responsive to its customers. This weekend was the busiest weekend of the year, so what do they do? They close. I’m sure if you ask them why they’ll giver you a whole bunch of answers, but not one of them will have the customer’s best interest in mind. No wonder it’s ailing.
xmas tree7Coconuts supports many local charities here in the lower Keys. One of them is the Methodist Church food bank another is the M.A.R.C. House. Each year our customers pin money on Coconuts Christmas tree. The money is counted & set aside every night. When the tree comes down the final count is made–Coconuts matches it. The money is then given to the food bank at the Methodist Church. It’s a win, win, win. The customers feel good, the Nut feels good, the Food Bank feels good. We also have the biggest real tree on the Island that we purchase from the M.A.R.C. house in Key West, they feel good about that–another win. .
Cyndee, our manager, was just saying, “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at the NUT”.

The depth of the complaints from most of the left side of the aisle, harpooning FTR are almost totally devoid of anything even remotely resembling reality about the equivalent of saying grey is a much more superior color than tan , generalities into infinity , all meaningless platitudes or incoherent criticism , and gibberish.

The Miami Republican Cuban community has been whining about Fidel Castro for 56 years now. They always play the “Communist” card when some U.S. government official tries to bring an end to the U.S. embargo. My question is, why don’t they grow the cojones and take Castro out themselves? Why didn’t they stay and fight from within. Why do they expect our military to do it for them? They have the money to arrange for a coup d’état. Maybe they just want to continue to have something to cry about? The day the Castro brothers die, that’s when the Miami Cubans will dare to infiltrate Cuba, and bring back the Batista regime’s mentality. The question is, will the native Cubans embrace the Miami Cubans, or will the natives treat them like the Miami Cubans treated the Marielitos when they stepped foot in Miami?

[Second Amendment Café] Do I smell franchise? Good food, friendly service and a huge helping of freedom — that’s what they’re dishing up at Shooters Grill in Rifle, Colorado. “It’s not about politics, it’s a way of life,” says one of the servers, who can be seen with a Ruger Blackhawk .357 strapped on her hip. microscopeIt appears as if the “science”, upon which the U.S Fish & Wildlife Service claims it bases its actions, may not be quite as pristine as they would like us to believe. Congress (specifically the House Committee on Natural Resources) recently released a scathing report on the agency entitled “Under the Microscope: An examination of the questionable science and lack of peer review in Endangered Species Act listing decisions”.

The report indicates that U.S.F.W.S. “does not have clear and consistent policies and procedures in place” to handle conflicts of interest among scientists reviewing the science used to support or deny ESA listings. Not only that, it appears as if the very same scientists whose work is being cited as a justification for certain actions, are often the ones being asked to review the validity of the work, In other words, they are being asked whether or not their own work is valid. (Not surprising that they give it their whole hearted endorsement, eh?)

It also notes that some of the reviewers “… have known policy positions or affiliations with advocacy groups that support the listing position.” And, despite the administration’s well-known pledge of transparency (I’m trying to keep from laughing — honest.), U.S.F.W.S. “routinely withholds from the public the identities of peer reviewers, qualifications of peer reviewers, instructions, and details about their comments.”

So the next time U.S.F.W.S. starts preaching to us about how they are basing their actions on the “best available science”, you’d best take it with a grain of salt.

stingray fishes[Sanctuary Seminar to Cover Rays, Roseatte Spoonbills and Science] We’ve all seen something out on the water that sparked our curiosity – whether it was a spotted eagle ray gracefully gliding under the surface, a colorful roseatte spoonbill wading near the shore, or a glimpse of something man-made resting on the seafloor. You may have wondered what an animal ate or where it migrated from. Perhaps you couldn’t tell whether a shiny object on the seafloor was a piece of history or merely marine debris. This winter, anyone interested in the marine life and maritime heritage of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary can learn more in a seminar series where experts share their knowledge of ecological and cultural resources of the sanctuary.

Registration is now open for the Florida Keys Community College’s “Sanctuary Seminar,” a six-week, non-credit lecture series hosted by Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Lectures are Tuesday evenings 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m., from January 13 – February 17, 2015 at Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center in Key West. Events

I was shopping in our neighborhood Radio Shack next to Winn Dixie last weekend and asked about TV service. The employee there told me about DirecTV and Sammy Sam. I am glad I called him and not the 800 number. My neighbor had a bad experience with an installer that was sent down from Miami to put up his dish; he was from Haiti and barely spoke English. I am glad we have a local installer who understands our local needs.

Oh, and the guys at Radio Shack are great too. They set up the two new iPhones we bought there. I almost bought them at a store in Key West but the employees there were clueless. The Big Pine store really knows what they are doing. I would encourage everyone to shop local and support our businesses. Like Joni Mitchell said, “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”.

FKAA’s plan to do hydrology testing through the shallow wells at the Cudjoe sewer plant is more FKAA deceit. They tell us we need central sewers because the ground is too porous, then tell us that if they inject a million gallons a day of buoyant fresh water a mere 80 feet underground into the denser saltwater that it might stay there. That is beyond absurd. There is no limitless empty cavern at the bottom of the well casing. It’s a big rock sponge full of tunnels. For every gallon of water that goes down the well, a gallon surfaces somewhere. Even if it was a gigantic cavern full of just air at the bottom of the well casing, you could not put water in without displacing air out. For visualization of shallow well depth, that 80 foot deep well casing is about the distance across 1-1/2 residential lots. About 30 steps. Diddly-squat. You know that the ground is not impervious because if you dig a hole in the ground anywhere here below sea level, it quickly fills with water. FKAA has no means of getting a million gallons a day of freshwater to the wells for testing until the plant is running and everyone is connected, so there is no means to meaningfully test anyway. If they pumped from one well to another, it would just recycle salt water and prove nothing. Research at other Lower Keys shallow effluent injection wells has always found that the fresh water rises to the surface not so far away. And they located the surfacing points by simply looking for the big algae bloom and testing for the tracers there. Just cut the crap and put in the deep well that is legally required and is paid for with infrastructure sales tax money. Know that FKAA deceives. Learn the truth, spread the truth. FTR wrote “no record of any American being tortured for political reasons” Has he already forgotten that Americans kidnap our enemies in what we like to call “Rendition” or the horrors of abu Graib prison or waterboarding or freezing our political enemies. Cuba feels their political prisoners are enemies of the state just as we do towards Muslims. It’s hard for FTR to look at things any differently than the John Wayne America of his youth, but the world has changed. Political prisoners exist in America. FTR doesn’t like to call them that because “we are Americans and don’t have political prisoners” as does Cuba. They don’t think they have political prisoners either. They call them enemies of the state just as we do. There’s little no difference. You must learn to live with that Mr FTR if you want to be relevant. Americans torture political prisoners. FTR can’t see that those Muslims we torture are political prisoners—enemies of the state.

The rest of his rant deals with Communism. He’s still fighting the cold war.

At least under Cuba’s Socialism (we are the ones that call it Communism, they don’t) the streets are safe, there is no hunger, everyone has free medical care, everyone is educated and no one walks up to two policeman and shoots them in the face. As a matter of fact no one shoots anyone in Cuba. They don’t have a second amendment that allows them to shoot each other.

FTR thinks wealth from tourism won’t affect the average Cuban. He’s wrong. I could explain it to him, but it’s hard trying to talk sense to a stone wall. I’m not sticking up for Cuba’s government. I wouldn’t live there. I’m trying to clear up right wing misconceptions. I can’t sit still while so much bulls**t is going around. The embargo didn’t work for fifty years and the only ones to suffer economically are the Cuban people. My main interest in opening Cuba is so I can vacation there, that’s it. I don’t care if they’re communist or Republicans I still want to go visit!

solstice22The Winter Solstice occurs exactly when the Earth’s axial tilt is farthest away from the sun at its maximum of 23° 26′. Though the Winter Solstice lasts only an instant in time, the term is also colloquially used as Midwinter or contrastingly the first day of winter to refer to the day on which it occurs. More evident to those in high latitudes, this occurs on the shortest day, and longest night, and the sun’s daily maximum position in the sky is the lowest.

The seasonal significance of the Winter Solstice is in the reversal of the gradual lengthening of nights and shortening of days. Depending on the shift of the calendar, the Winter Solstice occurs on December 21 or 22 each year in the Northern Hemisphere

Worldwide, interpretation of the event has varied from culture to culture, but most cultures have held a recognition of rebirth, involving holidays, festivals, gatherings, rituals or other celebrations around that time. (or as FTR guy would call it, “another failed Obama policy”)/

I laughed when I read the FTR story about the N.D. dump. I had been thinking the same thing for the last few days about the Cudjoe waste water plant. Since citizens have no recourse against elected officials when their decision making disrupts the taxpayers’ way of life and finances. I think we should name the Cudjoe Wastewater treatment plant after the invisible Gang of 3, Neugent, Murphy and Rice. It will certainly be a memorial to them no matter which way the sewage leaks.

walker old manMerry Christmas?

‘Twas the night before Christmas at Rock-Away Rest,
And all of us seniors were looking our best.

Our glasses, how sparkly, our wrinkles, how merry;
Our punch bowl held prune juice plus three drops of sherry.

A bedsock was taped to each walker in hope,
That Santa would bring us soft candy and sweet smelling soap.

We surely were lucky to be there with friends,
Secure in this residence and in our Depends.

Our grandkids had sent us some Christmasy crafts,
Like angels in snowsuits and penguins on rafts.

The dental assistant had borrowed our teeth,
And from them she’d crafted a holiday wreath.

The bed pans, so shiny, all stood in a row,
Reflecting each candle’s magnificent glow.

Our supper so festive — the joy wouldn’t stop —
Was creamy warm oatmeal with sprinkles on top.

Our salad was Jell-O, so jiggly and great,
Then puree of fruitcake was spooned on each plate.

The social director then had us play games,
Like “Where Are You Living?” and “What Are Your Names?”

Old Grandfather Looper was feeling his oats,
Proclaiming that reindeer were nothing but goats.

Our resident wand’rer was tied to her chair,
In hopes that at bedtime she still would be there.

Security lights on the new fallen snow
Made outdoors seem noonish to the old folks below.

Then out on the porch there arose quite a clatter
(But we are so deaf that it just didn’t matter)

A strange little fellow flew in through the door,
Then tripped on the sill and fell flat on the floor.

‘Twas just our director, all togged out in red.
He jiggled and chuckled and patted each head.

We knew from the way that he strutted and jived
Our social security checks had just arrived.

We sang — how we sang — in our monotone croak,
Till the clock tinkled out its soft eight-p.m. stroke.

And soon we were snuggling deep in our beds.
While nurses distributed their nocturnal meds.

And so ends our Christmas at Rock-Away Rest.
Before long you’ll be with us so We wish you the best.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

[War is coming to Americas shores] It’s caused by socialists and race baiting whores: Barack, Jessie, Holder and Al, all across the country from Maine to California.

Shouting and chanting, cops must die,
black, white, Hispanic I wonder why.
Is it because of the race baiters word?
or do the ignorant follow the herd?
Burning and looting their own neighborhood,
instead of tying to do some good.
Violent protests blocking bridge and street,
killing cops while they patrol their beat.
The president thinks by executive order,
He can solve all problems border to border.
Obama the Despot, Ruler and King,
He and his Muzzies will soon learn something.
This is a Republic ruled by a letter,
The constitution, there is no better
Among other rights we have free speech and guns,
all true patriots need to fight as one.
Jews, Budists, Athiests, Christians and all,
Our fight today is the Islamic call..
Blacks Hispanics, whites must join together,
to fight against the Muslim tether
So many threats our country will face,
race or religion, who’s in first place?
not to mention our southern border,
that Obama is using to create disorder.
20 million illegals, now in our land,
and the government wants to give them a hand.
to those who did it legal, it’s a slap in the face,
illegals are allowed at an outrageous pace..
Murderers and rapists released from our jails,
Obama and Holder, it’s a huge fail.
The top cop follows Obama’s rule
Holder is nothing but Obama’s tool.
The RINO’s in congress are useless as hell,
Boehner, McConnell and the rest as well.
You allowed the Pres to have his way,
It’ll soon be time for the judgment day.
To all true patriots across the land,
pick up your guns and lend a hand.
We will not let this Republic fall,
We’ll stick together one and all.

There are two kinds of people who favor normalization of relations with Cuba. One is the person who believes that by freeing up the possibilities of Americans to travel to Cuba, the Cuban people will get to know us better and share our vision of a freer society. They also imagine that normalization will offer new economic opportunities to the impoverished Cuban people.

The other is the person who secretly harbors the hope that this will provide the Castro brothers with the resources to continue in power indefinitely (and after their passing, to allow their progeny and relatives to continue to rule the island, all under the fiction of “sustainable socialism”.)

The Nation magazine, the New York Times, Jimmy Carter, and needless to say, President Obama, his National Security Advisor Ben Rhodes, and all American leftists and most most American liberals harbor the second.

I can barely stomach the joy from the left over “normalization” of our relationship with Cuba. This is the same cult left that will demand a boycott of Israel over perceived apartheid only to abandon all moral sensibility when given the smallest opportunity to legitimize socialism.

From Wikipedia: “According to anthropologists dispatched by the European Union (EU), racism in Cuban is systemic and institutional. Black people are systematically excluded from positions in tourism-related jobs, where they could earn tips in hard currencies. According to the EU study, black people are relegated to poor housing, were excluded from managerial positions, received the lowest remittances from relatives abroad, and were five times more likely to be imprisoned. Blacks also complained of suffering the longest waits in healthcare.”

And my favorite “Frommer’s Cuba travel guidebook warns that black tourists can have a hard time entering hotels and restaurants because they are sometimes mistaken for Cuban prostitutes by the security forces” I bet Obama can relate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Racism_in_Cuba

Ask yourself, who really put BO into office? The whole election was a scam and it is thought the powers that be, were from ye old castles in EUROPE. The very old world junta is crashing America it is said by those inside the ‘circle’. They want their colonies back and are using the Reds and Middle East as pawns in the take back! The old world land barons are still in control of everything.Think about it!
from the right
July 2009: Obama: “The police acted stupid in arresting Henry Gates”, a Harvard prof. Obama continued: “There’s a long history in this country of African-Americans being stopped disproportionately by the police,” Mr. Obama said; “It’s a sign of how race remains a factor in this society.”

Each June Obama honors those Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender persons who engaged in a 1969 anti-police riot.

black on black22Obama ignores the effects of black-on-black crime, the links between the welfare state and poverty, rampant unemployment and poor education opportunities in the black community, and the fact that liberal policies have utterly destroyed the strong black family. He casts law enforcement as the villains. Under Obama black unemployment is nearly double that of whites.

Obama 9/28/14: “a gulf of mistrust” exists between residents and police in too many communities.”

Obama on Trayvon Martin: “Trayvon could have been me.” “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”

Blacks beat an innocent Hispanic man in Baltimore saying it was “for Trayvon. There have been at least 8 such attacks since Zimmerman’s acquittal. Obama and his administration are silent about the attacks.

Demonstrations against police followed.

Obama on Ferguson: When he learned of the death of Brown he said: “My mind went back to what it was like for me when I was 17, 18, 20.”  There is “Simmering distrust between police departments and communities of color.”

Obama on the death of Eric Garner, 12/8/14: “”we are not going to let up until we see a strengthening of the trust and a strengthening of accountability that exists between our communities and law enforcement.”

Obama also expressed support for protesters, saying that as long as the demonstrations were peaceful, they were necessary.

The Mayor of NYC felt compelled to tell the public that he had cautioned his bi racial son to “take special care” during any police encounters. He too voiced support for the protestors and did nothing to ensure orderly demonstrations that did not interrupt the daily life in the city.

Massive demonstrations followed, they were not peaceful, and many were full-fledged riots. They were nationwide. They still are in progress today. Black community leaders like Sharpton, Jackson, et al encourage them. The Obama admin has done nothing to quell or even temper them. Their inaction is acquiesce.

In NYC the rioters chanted: “What do we want?”……… “Dead cops” …….. “When do we want them?” ……… “Now.”

And so, now, they have gotten what they wanted. Dead cops.

The riots and demonstrations continue.

Joanne Chesimard is a black activist, a terrorist. A member of the former Black Panther Party (BPP) and the Black Liberation Army (BLA). Chesimard murdered a New Jersey State Trooper in a shoot out in 1973. She was convicted of that murder and of the grievous shooting assault on another trooper. She was convicted of several other crimes attendant to her political terrorism. Her crimes included murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, bank robbery, and kidnapping. She was literally broken out of prison by three armed terrorist confederates. She then fled to Cuba where she was granted asylum by Castro. She is the first woman on the FBI’s 10 most wanted list. The FBI labels her a terrorist.

Chesimard is alive and well, enjoying the tropic climate of Cuba and the protection of Castro. Obama has not demanded the return of the fugitive convicted cop killer, Chesimard. Why?

We were promised a post racial presidency under the Obama administration, with a black Attorney General as our nation’s top cop. Yet race relations have deteriorated to the point where we are again experiencing race riots. Innocent persons, and public servants have died thanks to a movement, a mood that Obama, Holder, Jackson, Sharpton, et al, have fomented.

Never before in our history have the doors of equal opportunity been so open to all. Never before in our history has bigotry been so shunned and damned. Yet we are experiencing race riots and our President does nothing to calm the racial waters. Under Obama the gulf between the races has widened.

Homicide is the leading cause of death among black men aged 15-34 years. According to the CDC, black men are ten times more likely to be diagnosed with HIV or AIDS than white men. White males have a life expectancy of 76.5 years and black males 71.8 years.

Can anyone identify for us any initiatives that Obama has undertaken to remedy these horror stories? Instead he and his demonize the police.

Only God knows how long it will take to repair the torn fabric of race relations delivered to us by the Obama administration. Why is the term “race relations” still relevant?

Part 2) While you’re feeling all warm and cuddly at the prospect of the influx of refugees and Obama’s amnesty22amnesty, perhaps you should consider the following:

Fewer Americans born in the U.S. have jobs now than were employed to November 2007, despite a working-age population growth of 11 million. Almost one in every two jobs added since 2009 have gone to foreign-born workers. Now one in every five U.S. jobs is held by a foreign-born worker, up from one-in-six jobs in January 2010, according to federal data from the Center for Immigration Studies.

Since November 2007, the number of working legal and illegal migrants has risen by two million, from 23.1 million in November 2007 to 25.1 million in November 2014. But the number of Americans with jobs has fallen by 1.5 million, from 124 million in November 2007 to 122.6 million November 2014.

All of the net gain in employment since 2007 has gone to immigrants (legal and illegal). … Native employment has still not returned to pre-recession levels, while immigrant employment exceeds pre-recession levels.

The influx of foreign workers includes many university graduates. Their arrival is forcing many debt-burdened Americans graduates to start their careers in lower-wage jobs. Those American graduates will be stuck with lower wages for many years unless employers face a shortage of workers in the next few years.

This has widened the gap in wealth between the wealthiest one percent and the rest of the country.

Still feel all warm and cuddly?  Not me. Link

“I’ve never come this way before.”

The second nun replied

“It’s the cobblestones.” (Thanks Wolfie
