(Saturday, February 9, 2013 The Coconut Telegraph is not published on Saturdays)

We enjoy Zaza’s and we live here year around. The food is fantastic and my husband especially loves the large veal chop and our many guests enjoy the breakfasts before they go out fishing. The food is wonderful, the service is above board and the owners are very congenial with their guests. Why drive all the way to Key West (which we do enjoy once on a while). Sal and his family have made this an awesome facility with great ambiance and a very unique experience. Much of the food is imported which makes the Italian cuisine tasty and very unique.

About the limos, many people, rich or poor don’t use limos and don’t drive to have a great dining experience  Hey, we live in the Keys and appreciate people that try to make their time here more memorable. Sunrises and sunsets is what we’re all about. Our best to Patty and Mike Adams and a whole lot of other local residents. Go Sal And Melissa!

an_ninja[Assassin] President Obama has a targeted killing policy which includes the names of American citizens living outside of any armed conflict zone. These individuals are without charge, trial or conviction.

Secret executive criteria determines the names placed on this “Kill List”. This list is maintained by the CIA and a covert unit of the U.S. military called the Joint Special Operations Command. According to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta a group of national security officials decides who is targetable. They forward their findings to the president for a ‘strike authorization’.

By President Obama substituting his own bureaucratic process for the due process required by the Constitution and International Law, he is assuming the role of judge, jury and executioner.

During a speech at NorthwesternUniversity, Attorney General Eric Holder made clear that decisions about which citizens the government can kill are the exclusive province of the executive branch. The chief law enforcement officer of the United States essentially suggested that an American President can sentence an American citizen to death via nothing more than a committee meeting in some windowless room in the White House.

Selecting individuals for killing based on covert proceedings using secret evidence, conducted wholly outside of public view, are the actions of a despot. Government sponsored murder continues.

Exterminating Native Americans, imprisoning innocent Japanese-Americans, killing African-Americans, Ruby Ridge and Waco child massacres, drone strikes, torture and civilian murders; aren’t the actions of a lawful nation.

Obama’s minions are cocksure and perfidious. They care nothing about curbing violence. Their rhetoric is a subterfuge when it comes to protecting the lives of our children. They have chosen to advance their political agenda via the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Allowing the government to have an over-whelming advantage when it comes to using deadly force against its citizens, is antithetical to the people’s rights protected in our Constitution. Criminals and the ruling elites will always have access to all the firepower that they desire. Pontificating its virtue, a barbarous regime remains cleared to jail and slaughter unsuspecting civilians, with the ease of an assassin. ~John Donnelly

[ZaZa’s Demise] The report on ZaZa’s yesterday was right on. What a complete post on restaurants in the Keys. So many people come here on vacation and come back and open a restaurant never doing any research on the population. Sugarloaf has about sixteen thousand people. But you have to ask how many of those are adults, how many go out to eat every week and how many go to upscale restaurants? The figure is a lot smaller that the inexperienced restaurateur would guess.

[Restaurant Recommendations] Springers in Big Pine is local, friendly, good food, great value.
Kaya’s Island Eats at mile marker 31 is worth the drive. Great service, food as good as Square Grouper but not as expensive.

brownship[NOAA Jobs] Chow is decent, they even have stewards bring it to you on most ships. Work is boring and monotonous. Moor, unmoor, operate the cranes and other deck equipment. When slow or in port, chip and paint as needed, as the ships are white, they always seem to need it. Assist the scientists as needed. I don’t think they let you in the pilot house unless they need you for some reason.

On the Ferrel, while they were in NY, they went out in the morning, dragged a few trawl nets to collect fish, ate lunch, dragged a few more and then back to the dock. I don’t know about internet, as it wasn’t invented yet when I was there.

The good: it’s secure, you almost cannot get fired, unless you really try. Health and other benefits, very good. Sometimes there are some cute scientists and NOAA corps officers that you can try and fraternize with, and you can homestead on the ship. The ships have decent accommodations. Not a shell LNG ship with gym, sauna and swimming pool, but not a tug with a room you can’t turn around in, somewhere in the middle. There are generally no long deployments at sea, but you will travel away from home depending on the needs of the ship. Lots of port time, almost regular work hours. Kind of like day working on a larger ship.

The bad: boring, dead end job, no advancement whatsoever. Very broad line between officers and crew. Fraternization is a cardinal sin (if you get caught). Some NOAA corps officer are crazy (they drank the cool aid) and they run the show.

[“ZaZa’s is closing”] I’m sorry but not surprised to hear that ZaZa’s is closing. It lasted longer than I thought it would. I never tried it. Based on reports that it was expensive and noisy, I figured why make the drive from Big Pine?

From what I read on here yesterday, I gather that the Venusians didn’t take Global Warming seriously either.

[FEMA List Shortened] More than 1,700 Key West property owners soon will receive notices in the mail that their land will be taken off a controversial list that prohibited development.

The city mailed out notices Wednesday alerting people their properties are off the “FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) List” and they will now be able to develop on their properties.

[Free House] I read with interest a blurb at the bottom of today’s Key West Citizen newspaper about Joe Cleghorn giving away a house to a veteran or active duty military person stationed in Monroe County. Kudos to Mr. Cleghorn for his patriotism and generosity. Caveat emptor to the “winner” – make sure the property is not embroiled in a legal morass before you take ownership.

[How a raccoon kills a bird]  A raccoon typically attacks birds by biting the head or upper neck area. The heads of adult birds are usually bitten off and left some distance from the body. Raccoons have been known to mutilate poultry in cages by pulling heads or legs off.  When a raccoon attacks a flock of chickens, it often kills every single bird.   Dead fowl may be at the kill site or dragged several yards away. Raccoons are also serious predators of wild bird populations. Reports indicate that raccoons have been responsible for eliminating local populations of some nesting waterfowl

FROM THE RIGHT

right only grey

an_target4Not long ago I made a decision to try and be a little more kind and gentle to the Obama admin.  It wasn’t exactly a new year’s resolution, but it just seemed like a good idea at the time. I was flat wrong. It seems that every day the news is choked with revelations about Obama and his team that should be deeply disturbing for every American. The other day we learned that Obama and his Justice Department have decreed that we can kill Americans overseas if a “senior well informed official”, not necessarily the President, has the legal authority to kill. Personally, I think that the drone strikes are fine, but I had been on the opinion that there was some sort of official vetting done prior to the assassinations.  Apparently Team Obama feels that no such vetting is necessary. Team Obama now says that the decision to assassinate is to be made by a single, “high placed, well informed” individual.  There is no mention of any judicial or legislative review. This is the stuff of bad movies, it is un-American.

Deer Friends, granting any single person that authority is fundamentally wrong and scary as hell. Perhaps you did not know that one of the drone assassinations killed a 16 y/o boy who was an American citizen, born in California. I suggest that you check out all you can find concerning the Senate testimony of John Brennan, Obama’s nominee to head the CIA.  His testimony shows him to be a serial liar and a man of no character or moral compass. He reeks of the smell of mendacity. Ah well, that should be no surprise to anyone.

an ammo roundsPart 2) Those who are gunners know well that there has been an acute shortage of ammo, especially 9mm and .40cal.  The common belief was that the Obama zeal to tinker with the Second Amendment had resulted in a rush to stock pile ammo. Added to that was the news that some powerful libs were taking aim at the sale and the production of ammo. Some libs want to levy crushing taxes, some was to require a special license to buy ammo, some simply want ammo banned.

But, there is more, much more than that in operation.  Yesterday it was revealed that Big Sis’s Homeland Security, over the last 10 months has purchased 1.6 billion rounds of ammo. And, Big Sis is in the process of buying another 21.6 million rounds. He vast majority of the ammo is 9mm and .40cal.  By the way, shooters will be interested to know that the ammo is hollow points, not range ammo. If your not a shooter you might want to know that hollow point ammo is more expensive than  solid or ball ammo. It is not prized for it’s accuracy, it is prized because of it’s lethality.

Just to add a little perspective, during the height of Iraq war U.S. soldiers uses about 5.5 million rounds per month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years. Very interesting!

Perhaps you choose to believe that DHS desperately needs all that ammo so that it’s agents can be adequately trained.

Let’s think about that. There are about 162K gun carrying DHS agents.  We now know that they have or are acquiring 1,600,000,000 rounds of ammo. If we divide the 1.6 billion by the number of agents, 162K, we learn that DHS has or has ordered close to 10,000 rounds per agent. Deer Friends, if the average DHS agent qualifies once a month, (not likely, more probably, twice a year) that’s enough ammo to keep him shooting for about the next 17 years. Typically, law enforcement officers have to qualify with their sidearm once a year. Typically nearly every officer qualifies with no practice shooting before the test.

But wait there’s more! It is reported that last September, the DHS purchased no less than 7,000 fully automatic assault rifles, labeling them “Personal Defense Weapons.”  Why in the hell does DHS need 7,000 machine guns?

Does that scratch your chin and wonder?  It mystifies me. One possible explanation is that the government is taking advantage of the economies of bulk purchasing.  If that’s it, that’s just dandy.  But that doesn’t make sense because of the incredible, astonishing, amount of ammo purchased. Another explanation might be that the Obama admin is so tightly focused on gun control and abrogating the Second Amendment, they are attempting to make ammo purchases nearly impossible. If that’s it, they’ve succeeded. One of the biggest ammo suppliers, Cabala’s, has no 9mm in stock, except for some very expensive special purpose rounds. A check of the web reveals that 9mm and .40cal is as scarce as a … (you supply the metaphor).
