happy new year longHappy New Year. The Big Pine Flea Market is open Saturday and Sunday 8am til 3pm.

The holidays are over and a lot of us are thankful. It was a great time and the relatives are now going home. Let’s all stand on our porch and wave bye bye. It’s time to inventory our things that got broken or lost.

My list is: Little Billy lost my flippers and mask and snorkel. My son ate his cereal by the canal and has no idea where the spoon and bowl went. His wife borrowed my favorite dress to wear downtown. I think she kept it, or for some unknown reason came home without wearing it. They used my cutting board and threw it away, that was easier than washing it “It smelled like fish.” All my scented candles got burnt up; I was keeping them as decorations not to be burnt. They used all our sunscreen after they got sunburn, duh. My husbands fishing hat was borrowed and blew off on the boat. The best catch of the day was little Billy, he wasn’t holding the fishing pole properly. Bye bye to the Penn reel and rod. All my coffee cups and insulated cups are gone, apparently they thought they were disposable. Little 3 year old Chloe loved my refrigerator magnets, she asked if she could take them home and we said yes.

It’s been a fun week with the family here and most of this stuff can be bought at the flea market this weekend. I do want to apologize to our neighbors. Billy thought that the shells in your yard were free. I will get you new ones on Saturday.

The scariest words as they drove out of sight were. We will be back at Spring Break.

See you at the Flea Market.

Pot does not make you stupid, it makes you insanely happy & hungry. It’s 2014 people, wake up & smell the green bud & realize almost every medication comes from a plant. It’s great for pain and nausea. It just plain makes you feel good. What better medicine is there than that? Oh, I see, you’d rather take some synthetic chemical concoction that comes with a two-page warning. Link

[Bike Path] “The first thing you notice when you ride the new bike trail is all the junk the locals have dumped back there over the years.”

Really? That’s the first thing you noticed? How about noticing that it is a nice paved trail with nice views of foliage and the water, lots of shade and no cars whizzing by. You must be one of those people who are always negative.

A constant problem of our times is that people will scrutinize an article that has been well researched and documented, but if the contents do not agree with their ideology they routinely dismiss it as frivolous and nonsensical.

disconnect-graph

Disconnect lets you visualize & block websites that track you. A D icon sits in your browser next to the address bar and the number of sites trying to get to you appears with each different site.

Browse the web normally. As you do, the graph in this popup and the counter in the toolbar will update. Each circle in the graph represents a site that’s been sent or would have been sent some of your personal stuff. Circles with a halo are sites you’ve visited. Circles without a halo are sites you haven’t. Red circles are known tracking sites. Gray circles aren’t but may still track you. Mouse over a circle to view that site’s tracking footprint. Click a red circle to block or unblock that site. Link

[Immigrant Bounty] There should be a reward for people who turn in the migrants coming from Cuba and Haiti before they make it to land. Give them half of what they give the migrants when they stay. It might wake up the Border Patrol, Coast Guard, Navy, and Marine Patrol. It would be a great way to make money when the fishing is slow.

snow plow[Friday Joke] On a bitterly cold winter morning a husband and wife up north were listening to the radio during breakfast.  They heard the announcer say, “We are going to have 8 to 10 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the even-numbered side of the street, so the snow plows can get through.” So the good wife went out and moved her car.

A week later while they are eating breakfast again, the radio announcer said, “We are expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. You must park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street, so the snow plows can get through. “The good wife went out and moved her car again.

The next week they are again having breakfast, when the radio announcer says, “We are expecting 12 to 14 inches of snow today. You must park….” Then the electric power went out. The good wife was very upset, and with a worried look on her face she said, “I don’t know what to do.  Which side of the street do I need to park on so the snow plows can get through?”

Then with the love and understanding in his voice that all men who are married to blondes exhibit, the husband replied, “Why don’t you just leave the car in the garage this time.”

[FTR Fan] The FTR guy is okay with me. A breath of fresh air most of the time. I have never read anything hateful or ugly he has written. I can’t say that about the folks that dislike him and his point of view. Most seen to be mean spirited and angry. Sorry about that. It makes life hard. I also enjoy FOX news.I hope that doesn’t make your eyes explode. I would even go so far as to say there are others who feel the same. Have a very blessed New Year.

[“Commissioners are spending your tax dollars”] So who ya gonna call, the Comish Busters? There are none! Wake up and smell the money, it is salted with political sweat and saliva. Once you gave them their positions they now rule your life, you big dummy. Try to fire one, I dare you.

[Is Deer Ed is a Mormon?] I did a GeoTool trace of CT’s IP address and it’s hosted in Salt Lake City, Utah. Then there’s the fact that the CT isn’t published on Saturdays, but is on Sundays. Saturday being the Mormon’s day of rest along with Seventh Day Adventist and Jewish folks. Got any great funeral potatoes recipes, Ed?

[FTR Good] I can’t believe all the bashing you get as feedback to your views.  While the jury is still out as to whether or not what you write about is always factual,  you do have a great way of making a point and it always makes me think.  And isn’t that the whole point?  What I don’t understand is how you manage to express my view so clearly, even though to my knowledge we’ve never met.  Keep up the good work.

[“First person to buy legal weed”] Ex-Marine lobbied for the sale to assist ex-war vets with Post Traumatic Stress. Reason why he’s handing over cash? Likely because the banking/credit system crosses state lines, thus various Federal drug trafficking/money laundering laws likely are involved. Supposedly the US Justice Dept. is presently only not-enforcing Federal marijuana laws in the states of Colorado and Washington. Federal property and jurisdictions may come under Federal laws where pot is still illegal. Remember kids, pot is proven to lower one’s IQ, just like cigarette smoke causes lung cancer and makes you look old. Just because it’s legal doesn’t mean it’s good for you, you’ll need those brains when you get older. Link

[Marathon City Manager] Being from Marco I have some insight here. The search for new Marco City manager has had some odd turns. Both city manager search firms hired by the City have quit. [Facebook sued] Contrary to its representations, “private” Facebook messages are systematically intercepted by the Company in an effort to learn the contents of the users’ communications. This practice enables Facebook to mine user data and profit from those data by sharing them with third parties — namely, advertisers, marketers, and other data aggregators. The plaintiffs argue for either $100 for each day of the alleged privacy breach, or $10,000 for each U.S. user that claims to have been affected. Link

The NSA is working on a supercomputer that will crack any encrypted computer information on any computer be it national or private or business. The NSA figures that they will have the capability to ‘see’ every computer of every government, business and citizen in the world by five years or so. “Marathon City Manager makes $178,000 per year” Lets see if he worked 5 days a week – 52 weeks x 5 days is 260 days a year. Divide $178000 x 260 = $684.62 per day. Or $684.62 per day divided by 8 hours = $85.58 per hour. Can I see his time cards? Wow, that’s almost as much as most barmaids make, right?

scissors sm[“Cutting out national political posts”] If there was respectful comments and civil discord about real issues without attacking others political beliefs or party affiliation than those type of discussions, along with the fruitful exchange of information and ideas to resolve them, likely would have continued.

As long as there is competition for votes and minds, and as long as there are people of rather limited comprehension and expression ability, subjective to emotional attacks, there is arguably always going to be those who are willing to roll in the gutter to try to achieve success.

I’m not surprised that the mayhem attendant to the nuts and bolts working of the ACA aka Democare has begun, and has begun in earnest.

In Texas, Medicare payments to hospitals for patient care have not been made in a timely fashion by the Democare bureaucracy. That has caused some hospitals to miss payrolls for weeks.  In one hospital alone more than 150 employees have not been paid in a month because the hospital is dependent on receiving prompt payment from Democares contractor.  Democare owes the hospital $3 million, and the hospital just can’t make payroll.

The Texas Medical Association says they are familiar with complaints like this one regarding the Medicare payment facilitator, Novitas. TMA reports that that other smaller community hospitals like this one are in similar situations.

The Democare contractor is Novitas. Novitas’s direct connection to Healthcare.gov stems from an “emergency”, no-bid contract for “financial management services” awarded in August.  The services required included accounting, tracking of accounts receivable and accounts payable, documenting funds collected by CMS, and data validation, among other things. CMS is the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services. It is Obamas Department of Health and Human Services Medicare payment processor for the south-central region of the country. Novita was hired by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, (CMS). The contract was justified as a no-bid award because the “prospect of a delay in implementing the Marketplace by the operational date of January 1, 2014, even for a few days, would result in severe consequences, financial and other” and that the services required were “beyond what was initially anticipated and beyond CMS’ currently available resources.” Whatever the reason for the no bid award, like most of the rest of Democare, it failed miserably.

Novitas also runs the USA’s south-central region’s Medicare website which was launched just two days before the October 1 launch of Healthcare.gov. That site has experienced problems reminiscent of Healthcare.gov’s troubles, and the site will not be fully operational until well into 2014.

Novitas did not even exist until 2012.  It is headed by a guy by the name of Chris Taylor who structured the company to seek defense IT contracts. He started the company in late 2012 with the plan to work his connections, hire the right people and make it big in government contracting in the Washington area. Taylor and the firm had no experience whatsoever in healthcare mechanics. That is obvious. Link

Again Team Obama hired, with a no bid contract, an unproven firm to prevent precisely what is now happening. Hospitals must be paid, or patients will suffer. This is just the beginning.

turtle-hospital-signJust think about what will happen to your quality of healthcare when and if Fisherman’s Hospital and the other hospitals in the Keys are not paid by Democare. They will be forced to lay off staff and your healthcare will suffer.
