an_bus_greyhd_lgts[Homeless] I have a dream. First, I get 50 million dollars from a Nigerian prince. Next I buy a Greyhound bus and staff it with buxom hostesses. I then have it driven to homeless gathering places in Miami. A sign that says “Free booze, food and a ride to Key West” is placed on the bus. I load it up and head to Key West. I drop them off on Duval Street (drunk). Repeat. Repeat. Repeat, etc.

I wonder how long it would take before the one human family gang would scream “enough”?

It is like one Iguana is cute. Thousands are a real problem.

[“How do you get a cold by being wet and cold”]  Being wet and cold puts stress on your body, which lowers your resistance to any germs you may contact.  Germs can be left on any surface; gas pump handles, shopping carts, atm pads, etc., and can stay active for hours after the sick person left them there.

[Online Dating] I was one. Yes a lonely guy who really thought those TV and Online dating services could really help me find a mate. Boy was I right. They do work, but not like people think. I found as many as four ‘mates’ per week. Never have I met more horney chicks than while using these services. It is a whole new way of pimping with a keyboard. Now if the users could only be honest about their pictures, ‘dating’ would be much easier. The world is messed up and these kinds of organizations prove it beyond any doubt.

[How cold was it in the Keys lately?] So cold the bait stores started selling hand warmers and ice drills.
So cold we saw teenagers with their pants pulled up.
So cold the local coach was knocked out with a chunk of Gatorade.
So cold the bums were taking cabs.
So cold lobsters and shrimp were throwing themselves into the boiling water.

Isn’t about time they legalized pot seeing how it is the largest cash crop in America? There’s a lot of tax money that could be made from it.

Deer FTR, Ed is culling national politics from inept posters who give nothing to the topics. Ed needs to do this because most AH in the Keys seem to love aggravating others or to vent their closet madness. I too, miss the national subjects, but do not miss the twisted rhetoric from the uninformed. Keep up the culling Ed. (Ed: I used to get knots in my stomach when reading certain posts that I refused to publish. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the day after I published a dissent opinion that was absurd, the next day the poster wrote in that he made the whole thing up. I don’t need that crap and crap is what it is.)

With ‘grass’ becoming legal in the USA and from what my old buddy told me years ago back in the 1960’s, where are all the major tobacco companies in all this and what are they planning for their massive distribution network to sell dope world wide? He worked for a S.C. corporation who had warehouses filled with packaged ‘goodies’ way back then. The stuff does not go bad does it? And you thought smokes cost too much now!

I love the stories about crazy Midwesterners. I had a customer who told me a story about when he worked at an Air Force base as a civilian. He loaded up his car with guns and bombs and ammo and “was going to hurt some people.”

He went away for a while and later got into the flea market circuit. The Feds came to his house and arrested him for having a semi trailer full of stolen light bulbs!

But the best part of this guy’s story was that he installed a toilet in his basement that was on a 4′ cement pedestal that looked like a pyramid replete with steps going up one side. This was in a very modest home in Ohio.

Pirates-on-the-Water-Ck-Presentation1[Local Parrot Heads Club Supports VNA/Hospice] Visiting Nurse Association & Hospice of the Florida Keys (VNA/Hospice) received a donation of over $1,600 from Pirates on the Water, the Key Largo chapter of the Parrot Heads in Paradise club.

VNA/Hospice was chosen this year by the Pirates on the Water as the recipients of their “Pit Stop Party” which was held in conjunction with the annual Parrot Heads Meeting of the Minds gathering in Key West.

“This year’s event raised over $1,600 for our charity and we were honored to be able to present these funds to VNA/Hospice to help fund home health and hospice care for our residents in need,” stated the club’s Log Keeper Sandy Singleton.  “When we found out they provided over $300,000 in unfunded care to uninsured and underinsured residents last year we knew we needed to help.”

Pirates on the Water have been known for their creative, goodhearted and philanthropic fundraising since the club’s founding in 2006.  Benefitting local charities with their annual events is one way they fulfill their mission of leaving everything a bit better than they found it

There was an interesting post yesterday that may explain the frustration many of us had with the political section. A poster lamented that he only had 15 minutes to do the research to back up his comments whereas another (FTR?) had half a day.

Aren’t you supposed to do research and gather evidence before you arrive at your opinion? The politics section must have been bassackwards.

In my daily 1 second glance at the FTR post yesterday, the words “grinder pump” caught my eye. Curious, I read his post in which he stated that his interest was national politics. It reminded me of this old joke:

A guy says “My wife and I split up the work. She takes care of the bills, worries about our finances, handles our nutrition and does the day to day planning. I take care of the big stuff like foreign affairs and national politics.”

No, sheeple, it is all over except the crying and howling. It is nobody’s fault but yours, and those who want to control all the information in the world. Guess who?

[Bitter Local] “Greedy profit” It isn’t that we don’t like businesses, it is because newbies think they have great ideas to get rich down here in the Keys, but most times all they do is start up useless enterprises and destroy anything that looks like the old Keys. You guys will never learn that most of the conchs and long time locals do not want to be rich and famous. We want to be free of the hassle of living 24/7 behind a cash register. Get with it or move to some shit hole in Texas or Mexico that needs your circus junk shop low rent mentality and leave paradise alone!

Bacon basket is the ultimate bacon lover’s gadget. Fill it with sausage and eggs and ride the cholesterol highway.

[Captain Doom and Gloom] “Greedy profit” It is not that people are greedy who own businesses it a the fact of life that they turn that way after realizing they cannot work at a decent product producing job for eight hours, five days a week and make a decent wage, except in the Keys. They then wonder why. Mostly the reason is they did not have the correct business plan for the area they are in. Whims do not make for a smart business plan. It takes many months of study to understand one’s area, one’s skills and one’s potential for profit making. Then hooking up with the correct suppliers, getting the required labor force, permits, licenses, training, and learning the under-table skills of a realistic business owner. Anyone can open a sandwich shop and buy at the local market, open a second hand recycle shop, or a bicycle repair shop, but those who think they will make a fortune in the Keys by starting a new General Motors or The Worlds Biggest Tiki Bar, should sell the stuff they are smoking. This ain’t the mainland, Dude!

pov1It’s been a half century of failed national social policies since President Johnson started a $20 trillion taxpayer-funded war on poverty. The tragedy is not only the social impact of the failure of the war on poverty, but also the immense waste of money. Indeed under Obama’s Democrat governance, the poverty rate has eclipsed the poverty rate which spawned the “Great Society”.

50 years later, under the Obama administration, the overall percentage of impoverished people in the U.S. has declined only slightly and the poor have lost ground under President Obama. The poverty rate has stood at 15 percent for three consecutive years, the first time that has happened since the mid-1960s. The poverty rate in 1965 was 17.3 percent; it was 12.5 percent in 2007, before the Great Recession and before the Democrats took control of Congress. Years after the Great Recession ended, 46.5 million Americans are still living in poverty, according to a Census Bureau report released Tuesday.

Meanwhile, median household income fell slightly to $51,017 a year in 2012, down from $51,100 in 2011. About 50 million Americans live below the poverty line, which the federal government defined in 2012 as an annual income of $23,492 for a family of four.

pov9President Obama’s anti-poverty efforts are basically to give more people more free stuff. Johnson’s goal was to make people prosperous and self-sufficient.

Today, apparently Obama’s only homage to the inception of the “Great Society” is to urge Congress to further extend the current record shattering extent of unemployment compensation.

Democrat governance has shattered many records: high unemployment, record highs in food stamp usage, record high  reliance on welfare, record high national debt, etc., etc., the sad list goes on and on. Nonetheless, the Democrat record of failure does not cause them to seek new solutions to solve old problems, but rather to simply double down on failed programs and to make the population more and more reliant on government largess.

But there are voices of reason to be heard. Our own  Sen. Marco Rubio says the nation needs a new reform agenda to help the poorest Americans find work and help their families climb out of poverty.

pov2The Florida Republican says in a speech Wednesday that money from the federal government to address poverty should be shifted to the states and Congress should reform the tax code to give people in low-wage jobs an incentive to stay in the workforce and not collect unemployment insurance.

Rubio says a “big government approach” launched by President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty” 50 years ago has failed then and continues to fail to help Americans trapped by poverty.” He’s not only Right, he’s correct. It’s time for a change.
