[“Keys Slum Lords”] As renter and a manager for long term rental units in the Keys for the last 15 years or so, I can tell you that the financial numbers for landlords just don’t work. If they did then local businesses would be buying, building or converting to multi-units to house their workers to provide themselves with reliable, more cost effective, year round employees and make a profit in the process. Up and down the Keys, almost no business has figured in employee housing into their business plans, rather shifting that cost to the desperate land lords in the area who rather lose less by renting than lose more by not renting. As a ex-manager for a multi-unit, I would show new tenants the huge bills we have to pay and that none of it was going toward the bank note’s payment. If we did, the rent would easily be double. Being a provider of long term rentals in the Keys is either an act of pure charity or of desperation. Then on top of all that, nearly all tenants are desperate themselves, or else why come to this financial losers’ paradise and work three jobs to survive? If you want to make money and get ahead, you live in a cheap area and commute inexpensively to a better area to work one job that pays well and save to train for an even higher paying job. Of course there are just about zero businesses in the Keys that keep and pay their employees well for the long term. They rather fire and rehire cheaper labor more often, resulting in higher turnover for landlords and even worst tenants. Hawaii is rated the worst state in the country to make a living, the Keys have just about exactly the same sort of high-tourist/no-cheap-land sort of economy.

How is the State going to increase traffic flow around Big Pine Key as stated in a local paper?   You mean there is traffic already flowing around Big Pine?  How did I miss that?
action-comics-11I moved to Key West in early November 1999. I was living in St. Paul, M.N. and had grown tired of their cold winters, so I was very ready for a change. My wife and I had gone down there in early June that same year to get married. We loved it so much that upon returning home, we made the necessary arraignments to relocate their permanently, so that’s exactly what we did.

However there was an accident on the mover’s truck. A freak fire broke out and all 6 thousand pounds of life long, worldly possessions all perished in the fire…well the majority of it anyway. A few items did survive but not much.

Not the best way to start our new life together as newlyweds to say the very least, it was both tragic, and awful. The first month there my wife, and I, filled out paperwork for our insurance company, Farmers Insurance. They wanted to know everything we owned, a written description of each, and every, item lost. What it’s replacement value was, where we purchased it, etc. It was a nightmare.

I mean really, close your eyes for just a minute…humor me. Now think about everything that you own, then make an itemized list including all the info listed above. Six months after completing this daunting task I would wake up during the middle of the night in cold sweats. I would remember a pair of rattlesnake skin cowboy boots, with sterling silver spurs, that I had neglected to include in my paperwork to the insurance company. This went on for two plus years.

That’s roughly how long it took them to get around to settling our case. We were eventually paid off in three payments during all of that time. We had even purchased a 40 thousand insurance policy with United Van Lines, the moving company that caused all of this. However, those bastards refused to pay us. They had lawyers on retainer, I didn’t. So they could drag the case on forever if they wanted. I consulted three different lawyers that all told me the same thing. That I would eventually win my case but any funds that I won would pretty much all go to the lawyers in fees so, basically, it was not worth my time to pursue it legally.

I couldn’t believe what they were saying, but after hearing it from three separate attorneys I realized that I was screwed with a capitol S.

Thankfully my wife had a homeowner policy that covered some of it. In the end though we didn’t even get enough funds to replace my heavy comic book collection, as I had 39 long boxes, plum full of silver age, to current, wonderful gems. The collection was my life’s pride and joy.

[Fold a Diaper] Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher’s mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again.Happy Fathers Day. [Cats] Friday’s great  post about domestic cats’ environmental damage will fall on deaf ears. Their environmental damage will only be resolved when lawmakers change the current laws that allow it. Cat owners are in denial, plain & simple.

This is a pretty picture , but I’m glad that I wasn’t up there to take the picture. Lighthouse on Lake Michigan 1/2014 after the storm. This is the St. Joseph Lighthouse on Lake Michigan. Today, it is encased in ice as the Midwest was hit with wind chills that reached -50 degrees. Those of you who do not live in Michigan will find this hard to believe.

[Taze Politicians for charity (and fun)]  Just taze Cates and Yanniz, because they have pushed hard for raising money for the kids. I think Yaniz has pushed the hardest. I didn’t ask Mike about the other city commissioners. Perhaps concentrating on just Cates and Tony might be more effective initially; maybe later, after it catches on we can shanghai more taser targets. jonh-wayne15[“John Wayne never in military”] America’s entry into World War II resulted in a deluge of support for the war effort from all sectors of society, and Hollywood was no exception. Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status, classified as 3-A (family deferment). He repeatedly wrote John Ford saying he wanted to enlist, on one occasion inquiring whether he could get into Ford’s military unit, but consistently kept postponing it until after “he finished just one or two pictures”. Wayne did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but Republic Studios was emphatically resistant to losing him; Herbert J. Yates, President of Republic, threatened Wayne with a lawsuit if he walked away from his contract and Republic Pictures intervened in the Selective Service process, requesting Wayne’s further deferment.
Daddy Bones did not go out of business for being pro-constitution or pro-second amendment, or pro self-defense. Monroe County has the largest percentage of the population with concealed carry licenses in Florida. Besides a few snivelers, the majority clearly appreciate the support of freedom that the management showed. I would guess that the expenses involved with the continual price increase in meat products, partially due to the ill-advised ethanol requirements, had more of an effect. I know that meat has risen over 33% in the last few years and the price increase was not shown on their menu. I for one, will greatly miss the best wings on the planet.

Happy Father’s Day!
I really like the idea recently posed of tazing Cates and Yaniz to raise cash for the youth of Key West.  But why stop there? Let’s taze other commissioners, Donnie Lee, and the 13 KW killers.  I’d pay $100 to see each.

Well it’s Sunday and time to go to that building with the points on the roof and a couple of sticks. Why I do this is because my primary brain was seduced as a kid to giving money to some guy who wears weird cloths, talks BS, and smells like a Gucci shoe store, for a cracker and some cheap wine. My mom always said to respect these guys, but dad just laughed and told me not to join the choir!

[Vote] It sure must be nice to get the Coconut Telegraph to stop posting the FKAA’S doings and get people to forget what they are doing. With all the shim-sham manipulation being done in Monroe County, our hind quarters are taking a beating and is our wallets. When are the people going to throw out these pirates and put some locals into those golden chairs to take care of us the way we want them to?

We’re coming up to the summer solstice! On June 21st the Sun is farthest north for the year — so it sets farthest north on your horizon (yellow arrow). At the equinoxes in March and September, the Sun sets due west. Its setting angle as it moves down the afternoon sky is drawn here for the world’s mid-northern latitudes.

[Gun] Oh, only 15 school shootings! That’s fantastic news. I’m glad there’s only 15 school shootings. I mean, when you go to school, you should expect some level of gunplay, that keeps the little kiddies on their toes and helps with their physical education. I bet it also sacred them so they didn’t eat lunch, and that saves money too. It’s just wonderful news all around. Let’s go spread a few more guns around too – you never know when some citizen is going to go postal. We wouldn’t want them to have to waste their time trying to find a gun, let them get right into the school and do their thing. After all there’s just 15 and plenty of room for more.
I really don’t get the liars figure, but I do know stupid is as stupid says when I see it. Good luck on the witch hunt.
[Gun] How about someone in a tiny little Conch house in Key West Historic District setting a range up? Feathers would fly, eh, but it would be legal.
[Gun] The United States is 3rd in Murders throughout the World. But if you take out Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, and New Orleans, the United States is 4th from the bottom for murders. These 4 cities also have the toughest gun control laws in the United States.
bluewater-750w
[Gun]  I believe it’s Ted Nugent, who has an AR-15 fully loaded, safety off, mounted on a pole in his yard. It’s been there for years and has yet to shoot anyone.  Personally I have always kept my weapons fully loaded at all times.  That way there is never a doubt about whether it is loaded or not.  Not one of my loaded weapons has ever shot anyone.
[Gun] I’ve been reading the gun posts and after someone pointed out that they were talking about murder and murder of innocent people as their argument not one defender would talk about murder and they only continued to talk about self defense and overthrowing the government. As I see it murder is the concern. It’s kind of like the FTR guy’s spin on truth. Maybe it was him writing all those gun posts.
[Gun] “Encouraging the public to bring guns into their restaurant does not make good business sense” Sure it does if you want to deal in cash and don’t want any robberies or sissy holy types hanging around. Only real men and real woman know guns are for defense and know how to use them. Who cares about the hollies and the sissy-boys?

I don’t agree with what the President does most of the time, but I do understand that he is nothing more than a mouth piece for the real controllers of America and perhaps the whole world. One man cannot decide what the world or America will do on any given problem, situation or run the NWO Company. He only does what he is told, you can see that by the way any President’s eyes tell you if he is sincere or being used. Never have I seen a President in total control by himself. Hillary? FORGETABOUTIT!
Why come is it when “W” was in office and gas prices would rise Ben Stein would give his little “gas is a commodity” speech? Is gas no longer sold in commodities market!?!? Oh, I forgot it’s Obama’s fault.
The latest lie from Queen wanna-be Hillary was that she and Bill-the-Rapist were “Dead Broke” when they left the White House. The lie was quickly exposed in the media.  Yes, their liabilities exceed their assets for a short time but she scored a multi-million dollar book deal advance while Bill was trotting around the country giving speeches for  $200,000 a pop.  By the end of their first year they had made in the neighborhood of $12 million.  One has to wonder if she ever opens her mouth without  spewing lies, distortions and bullshit.  Trusting her would be like a blind man trusting a Gypsy in a Scrabble game.
Looks like religion is starting another war in the Middle East AGAIN and our busy-body government is sticking its nose into it AGAIN. Why the hell can’t those people realize they are being had by their priests and rich camel jockeys?
It looks like our stalwart Fox News heroes don’t have enough on their plate to dither about so they are re-opening an investigation in to the OJ murder trial.  Oj, Obama, hmmmm.   By the way, I wonder why they didn’t make it down here to support the Big Pine gun guy?  That would be right (right, get it) up their alley.
One more time: Bush bashers are addicted to blaming Bush for the Iraq war, and they falsely credit Obama for ending that war.

They are totally and completely wrong. Certainly they know that the war was engaged with the full consent and approval of nearly every single Democrat in Congress. Unlike Obama, Bush followed the law and sought and got Congressional approval before attacking Iraq.  Hillary Clinton solidly supported it as did John Kerry, each gave speeches in favor of it and voted for it. When the Democrats took control of Congress in 2007, they could have ended the war at any time, they did not. Now they choose to ignore that Saddam’s Iraq was the functional equivalent of Nazi Germany.

The Democrat legislators voted to attack Iraq. Saddam had ordered ethnic cleansing, he killed thousands of his subjects with poison gas. He invaded neighboring countries. He bragged of his possession of weapons of mass destruction. He ignored repeated UN resolutions to permit examination of his WMD capacity. He used torture and executions as a spectator sport. He attempted an assassination of the President of the United States. Bubba Clinton ordered a military strike against Saddam for that episode. Then the left finally voted to go to war against Saddam. Now the left leaners and Bush bashers ignore the fact of their support and role in beginning the war. They also ignore the fact that the US was supported with a coalition of 60+ nations who all agreed that Saddam must be ousted.

The notion that Obama ended the war is disgustingly false. The governments of the US and the new democracy, Iraq, began negotiating the departure of US troops in early 2008. GWB was President. President Bush signed that agreement with Iraq PM Malaki. That agreement certified that all US troops would be withdrawn from Iraq by December 31, 2011. Obama had no choice but to honor that agreement. Obama played no role in casting the end of the war. He only followed Bush’s agreement.

When the 2008 Status Of Forces Agreement (SOFA) was signed, it was fully expected that the next US President (Obama) would negotiate an additional SOFA which would call for a limited US military presence in country. Our military presence in Germany, Italy, Japan, and all over the world is the result of such SOFA’s. Obama/Clinton failed or simply refused to negotiate that agreement. We now are seeing the results of that failure in Iraq. Terrorism and Jihadists will now gain treasure and power that they never have had before thanks to Obama/Clinton’s failure!

Newly minted President Obama had a new, free, functioning, conflict free Iraq democracy when he entered office. Now, only 4 ½ years later, Iraq is on the cusp of falling into the hands of the most vicious jihadists on the face of this earth. That spells huge trouble for the US and the rest of the world.

They know all of that, yet they continue to propagandize.

The main stream media lead us to believe that the Vegas cop killers were Tea Party extremists. The truth could not be farther from it. They were Occupy protesters. Pretty much the opposite of a Tea Partier. The media would like nothing more than to find violence and anarchy on the conservative side of the equation. But alas it is so rare that they are trying to invent it.

A POSTER WROTE: “My comments about Cantor and Brat were not “argument.”  They were facts.  I don’t see how my comments were rude.  You are a republican sympathizer and don’t want to hear and accept facts that don’t agree with your politics. That doesn’t make them rude.”

FTR’S RESPONSE: Apparently our left leaning friend who wrote that Cantor and Bratt are “psyco” (the posters spelling, not mine) and “crazy” believes that sort of rhetoric is not rude. I disagree. Apparently the left leaning poster has no knowledge of history because contrary to the posters statement that Cantor and Bratt had gerrymandered their district to ensure that one of them would be elected is not true, no surprise there.  Eric Cantors 7th District of Virginia was redrawn in 1993 long before Cantor was elected to Congress. Or maybe, just maybe, the poster has not a clue as to the meaning or mechanics of “gerrymander.” That’s probable.

==========================

The Obama administration and the Democrats have led our nation into a dreadful minefield full of explosions that seem unending.

Last week, the Obama administration was astonished that AQI’s newest iteration, ISI had seized about a third of Iraq, and was well on its way to conquering Baghdad. ISI of course is AQI. The same AQI that Obama bragged he had defeated. On their march toward Baghdad they have left a trail of beheaded bodies and crucified Christians. Mr. Obama has decided that leaving DC and taking part in a Sioux Indian ceremony is of more import than the explosion of power of AQI and the near certain loss of Iraq to AQI.  Obama tells us he with “think about” his course of action  for a few days. Deer Friends, what happened to leadership?

Obama claims to be surprised at the flood of children illegally crossing our southern border. It is becoming a humanitarian catastrophe. It is a direct result of Obama’s dithering on an immigration policy that would actually close our borders and protect us. Many say that Obama purposefully set in place the situation that would result in the wave of children. Saul Alinsky, Obama’s meme, preached that only from crisis can political gains be won.

Just the other day, the IRS, with a straight face, told Congressional investigators that 5 years of Louis Lerner’s emails had been lost in a computer malfunction. That is yet another Obama admin redux of “The Dog Ate My Homework” excuse. It is painfully unbelievable.  Please recall that the Congressional Committee is looking into the IRS’s unlawful pressuring of political organizations that are critical of Obama. Not all of the 5 years’ worth of email has disappeared, just some of them. That stinks to high heaven. You can be certain that one or more of the “lost” emails will provide a direct link from Lerner to the White House wherein they discuss using the power of the IRS to assault the Tea Party.

It is impossible to believe that there is no back up process in place at the IRS or White House. Back up is a prime priority in any government or business computer system. We know that tampering with evidence is a crime, we know that refusal to comply with a subpoena is a crime, we know that Obama and his administration considers itself above the law. What’s next?
