When I was real little we lived in a tenement house on a dead end street in a northeast city. One of our neighbors had a stroke. No one knew what a stroke was so we wanted to look at the scene for some blood and body parts. My father said it happened in front of the Castle Theater so we went to see the gory site. There were three colorful zoot-suiters hanging around in front of the theater wearing those long, tapered suit jackets and long chains hanging from their pants. The pants were baggy, pleated and pegged at the cuff. Sometimes they wore wide brimmed hats. One guy was swinging the end of the chain as was the fashion to be cool. In the street just off the curb was an oil stain that we were sure was the blood from our neighbor’s stroke. We ogled it for a minute then we went home filled with gory imaginings. That was the last time I saw a zoot suiter and the first time I saw an oil stain. Link

A proposal to release genetically modified mosquitoes in Key Haven was met with staunch resistance at a Thursday night meeting in Key West. Florida Keys residents voiced concerns about a lack of long-term independent data on genetically modified mosquitoes, upsetting the natural Keys environment and generally being treated as test subjects.

The British-based biotech group Oxitec built a lab in the mosquito control offices in Marathon to rear the mosquitoes. It is wrong, just look at what mutation did to the turtles!

[Attitude] Every kid I went to school with, every guy I knew socially or from the neighborhood, and even every relative who showed an interest and went on to become a cop, had a chip on their shoulder and a very vocal desire to kick some butt and be on a power trip. So I’m not surprised there’s finally a nationwide movement to reign in these misfits. I just wish they’d start with the KWPD.

King Abdullah of Jordan was on the TV and said Muslim leaders are starting to say that this is a Muslim problem and this is World War III. When asked what leaders are admitting that it is a Muslim problem, he said none yet.

snow plow bounce[Friday Joke] A blonde driving a car became lost in a snowstorm. She didn’t panic however, because she remembered what her dad had once told her. “If you ever get stuck in a snowstorm, just wait for a snow plow to come by and follow it.” Sure enough, pretty soon a snow plow came by, and she started to follow it. She followed the plow for about forty-five minutes. Finally the driver of the truck got out and asked her what she was doing. And she explained that her dad had told her if she ever got stuck in a snow storm, to follow a plow. The driver nodded and said, “Well, I’m done with the Wal-Mart parking lot, do you want to follow me over to Best Buy now?”

dear-santa5Deer Santa, Last night I realized that I don’t need anything for Christmas this year. My husband is disabled and rarely leaves our house. He spends a lot of time watching Hallmark and Lifetime Christmas movies this time of year. We both wish we could see our kids more often and go to doctor appointments less. Our boat sits at the dock without us using it.
Last night I walked the dog outside at midnight. I went back in the house and made my husband drag himself outside to our street. The moon was so bright that it was like daytime. We could see stars so beautiful and clear that I am sure most of the USA couldn’t have had a better view. I told him that this is why we live here, for moments like this. No wind, 80 degrees, no street lights, no crime, no noise and no fear of anything, just the simple pleasure of life in the Keys.
This is why we moved here so many years ago. We don’t need to run to malls or giant shopping centers, we have everything we could want right here. I decided right then and there that I was really happy with our limited local shopping and all the pressure the grand kids have for us to shop for them is just too bad. I am getting them the gifts that I want to give them, not what they think. I want for them to someday feel the way we could last night with the full moon and still ocean.
We have a simple life here and I just wish that I could chip a piece of that off and send it to them, if they could comprehend that it would be a true Christmas miracle. Thank you Santa, by the way, the cookies were stale so I brought you a fresh tomato from the flea market.

[Conspiracy Theories] Please prove that Larry Silverstein helped bring down the twin towers. The conspiracy community regularly seizes on any misunderstanding or slight discrepancy to try to defeat every other piece of solid evidence. It accepts one witness on their side at face value, even if he or she is a provable nut, as being far more credible than 10 normal witnesses on the other side. It treats rumors, even questions, as the equivalent of proof; leaps from the most minuscule of discoveries to the grandest of conclusions; as if failure to explain everything perfectly negates everything that is easily explainable. In other words conspiracy theories are science for dummies.

[Grand Jury Useless] Does anyone know who benefits from a Grand Jury besides the District Attorney? They are archaic, England doesn’t even use them. If their “DA” along with the police can make a case, they do! It’s as simple as that. Here the Grand Jury serves no useful purpose. No one else I know of uses them.

food-coloring5
I tried the food coloring test to verify non-ethanol gas and it works great! I dribbled a little, supposedly marine gas, in a jar. Then I dropped a single drip of black food coloring in and shook it to mix it well. The food coloring looked like grains of sand in the bottom of the jar, and the gas was un-tinted, thus confirming non-ethanol (marine gas). I then tried some E10 ethanol gas in a jar. When I shook the jar to mix the coloring with the gas, the food coloring disappeared and the gas was tinted dark, thus confirming that there was ethanol in the gas, which sucked up the water-based food coloring and tinted the gas. Don’t be cheated. $3 worth of food coloring goes a long way at one drop per test. If you find ethanol in marine gas, report it using the phone number that is on the pumps

devil head flameThe Eimers case spawned out of the mayor and city commission given KWPD the nod, not official of course, to be a rough on homeless people as possible, to try to get them to leave the area, and that was the wood chipper into which Charles Eimers unwittingly got stuffed just for the cops believing he was homeless.

I’ve been thinking since yesterday of a phenomenon I never see reported in the news media, which is mass demonic possession. The cops who killed Charles Eimers were in the thrall of mass demonic possession. Same with the cops who killed the man in NY City. Same with the Nazis. Same with Stalin and his goons doing the same to Jews and Gypsies in Russia. Same with the genocide the Serbs waged in Bosnia. Same with, yep, radical Islam jihadists, who actually believe God wants them to kill infidels. Same with KKK folks, who didn’t repent. Same with any group, tribe, nation, which behaves toward targeted peoples the way KWPD behaved toward Charles Eimers.

[Grand Jury] If a defendant pleads not guilty to a felony charge, the New York State Constitution provides that he cannot be tried for that charge unless he is indicted by a grand jury. The idea is sound: No one should be accused, arrested or required to answer a felony charge at trial if there is no evidence to support the charge. But the grand jury is, by design, a one-sided affair. Is it any wonder that nearly everyone experienced in criminal law readily concedes that the grand jury almost invariably does what the prosecutor wants? So what’s the point of having them? Link

[Speeding] What a clever idea for the police to advertise where they will be looking for drunk drivers this weekend. We all know nobody will be drinking in that area……NOW if they would only post that they will be checking for speeding on Pirates Road in Little Torch Key just maybe all the sand and gravel trucks making deliveries, the sewer construction crews, motor cycles and all of the other traffic will slow down. We can only hope. Phone calls and e-mails to the local police have fallen on deaf ears.

[“Seaweed problem“] Funny how different we view, or should I say, smell things. I need 2 things to know I’m home. One is seeing both sides of the road, Ocean and Gulf at the same time. That happens for me around Channel 5 Bridge. Second, the smell of decomposing seaweed. Home, sweet home.

[Joke Friday] A young man named Chuck bought a horse from a farmer for $250. The farmer agreed to deliver the horse the next day. The next day, the farmer drove up to Chucks house and said, ‘Sorry son, but I have some bad news, the horse died.’
Chuck replied, ‘Well, then just give me my money back.’
The farmer said, ‘Can’t do that. I went and spent it already.’
Chuck said, ‘Ok, then, just bring inc the dead horse.’
The farmer asked, ‘What ya gonna do with him?
Chuck said, ‘I’m going to raffle him off.’
The farmer said, ‘You can’t raffle off a dead horse!’
Chuck said, ‘Sure I can, Watch me. I just won’t tell any body he’s dead.’
A month Later, the farmer met up with Chuck and asked, ‘What happened with that dead horse?’
Chuck said, ‘I raffled him off. I sold 500 tickets at five dollars a piece and made a profit of $2495.’
The farmer said, ‘Didn’t anyone complain?’
Chuck said, ‘Just the guy who won. So I gave him his five dollars back.’

Deer FTR, I’m not a Democrat and I didn’t vote for Obama nor do I care for him, but I think maybe you should just try taking a chill pill. It’s obvious that you are too thin skinned to be writing a column where you, on a daily basis, insult 50% of our registered voters in Monroe County, and then don’t take it too well when they criticize what you write. Your column Thursday says it all. Sometimes I think all you are trying to do is get everyone else to be as angry as you are. It isn’t happening with me.

According to our local paying, not paid, political guru (FTR), anyone who is not from the Right evidently had poor “upbringing”. This comes from a man who whines of being insulted when a poster called him “our local weather guru”. He is not content to chastise a person who has a different point of view than him, he has to belittle past generations of their family. Not a classy guy. I now know what FTR really stands for: F**k The Rest. Boo, effin’, hoo!

[FTR: 74% of our troops killed in Afghanistan were killed on Obama’s watch] That’s because of Bush’s botched attempt at nation building under false pretenses. How come FTR never says Bush lied, but he says it almost every day about Obama.
Yesterday’s report on the billions being saved due to Obamacare was what liberals all hoped for. So watch for FTR’s denial. It’s sure to come.

We get it. CBO says Obama’s numbers are bad so the CBO is the greatest financial predictor in history. Their numbers will appear in the Right’s postings as gospel.

Obama’s numbers are correct and show positives CBO numbers are way off, wrong and a communist plot doing the bidding of our non American Socialist President.

We get it denizens of the Right. Yawn. We hear it all the time.

Conservatism Versus Liberalism: Does Philosophy Really Matter? The foundational belief system you hold determines your views on specific issues. You then have strong opinions you feel are right. If you look at the core beliefs of Conservatism and Liberalism, you can understand and explain the different stands taken on specific issues and the vision each has for our country. These beliefs are opposites in every area and diametrically opposed.
C- Families know best how to raise their children. They need to be strengthened and have the right to raise their children the way they want.
L- It takes a “village” not a family to raise a child. Families need government help and oversight. Cradle to grave involvement is optimal.C-Society is composed of individuals to be judged on their individual merit. Values individualism, self-reliance, and independence.
L-Sees society as composed of groups: black vs. white, old vs. young, rich vs. poor, male vs. female. These groups are pitted against each other. Stirs up racial and class envy and division.
C-Individuals are responsible for themselves and their actions. Crime should be punished. Evil exists and good should fight against it.
L-Society is responsible for individuals. Man is inherently good and something causes him to do wrong.
They talk about how we need to change society when someone does wrong. Even terrorists need to be understood.
C-Limit to how much can be taken from people to give to others. Welfare should help people to become independent (not dependent) and given to those truly incapable of taking care of themselves.
L- Supports welfare state. Government is morally justified taking from those that have and giving it to others because people are entitled to basic needs including housing, food, healthcare, income, etc. even if they are able to work.
C- Promotes equal justice.
L- Promotes social justice.
C-Competition is good.
L- Competition is unfair.
C-Supports lower taxes for all because people have a right to what they earn.
L-Supports progressive taxation with high taxes for the rich in an attempt to equalize incomes through redistribution of earnings.

L-More government is better. Many regulations are necessary to achieve a more fair & just society which is government’s primary role, resulting in less freedom.
C-Limited federal government with more power given to state and local governments.
L-Powerful centralized federal government with limited state and local control.
C-People and property rights are more important than environment. Supports conservation and development and use of our natural resources along with the development of green technology by private enterprise and when it is economically feasible and self-sustaining. Opposes cap and trade due to its high cost and negative impact on our businesses and way of life.
L-Environment more important than people and property rights. Supports rationing and limiting access to natural resources. Focuses on green technology subsidized by the government. Supports cap and trade to redistribute and control energy usage.
C-Wealth is good. All have an opportunity to be wealthy (The American dream). Creates a better life for all through entrepreneurship.
L-Wealth is bad and unfair. Promotes class warfare.
C-Equal opportunity without discrimination. Recognizes people make different choices with what they have and that it isn’t government’s role to make things fair. Doesn’t seek equal outcomes.
L-Equal results through such things as quotas, free college, and equal pay for unequal work. Government has to level the playing field in order to have equal opportunity. Seeks equal outcomes.
C- Supports healthcare reform that gives consumers choices.
L – Supports government takecover of healthcare and limiting of consumers’ choices.
C-Judicial restraint with strict interpretation of laws according to the Constitution and original intent.
L-Judicial activism: enacting social policy changes via court rulings. Constitution is seen as outdated and in need of change.

C-Western cultures are superior to others without rights, freedom, and respect for life.
L-All cultures are equal. Can’t pass judgment on any even if they don’t value freedom, rights, and life.C-God is a necessary part of a moral society. Religion makes people good when they know they have to answer to God.
L-State is secular (without God and hostile to Christianity). Seeks to eliminate references of God through separation of church and state.
C-Rights emphasized: Freedom, Parental, Property, Religious, Guns, Life.
L-Rights emphasized: Civil, Privacy, Secularism, Reproductive.
Liberalism (progressivism) wants to pull us further towards a welfare state with an ever-expanding web of social entitlements and more federal power and control over every aspect of our lives. Liberalism sees a nation of people incapable of solving their problems without the government’s help.
Conservatism believes a powerful federal government limits personal freedom. It seeks to stop the growing entitlement programs, encourage individual responsibility, and return Constitutionally mandated power to the states. Conservatism sees a nation of people capable of solving their own problems with minimal government help, as long as the people are free.

The Republican Party’s platform is primarily Conservative and the Democratic Party’s platform is primarily Liberal. This does not mean that every Republican is a conservative or that every Democrat is a liberal. However, if you watch the stands the parties take on issues, you will see that the Republican Party is more conservative and the Democratic Party is more liberal in their stands on issues and policies and the direction they want to take us. If you are still unclear as to what the differences between the philosophies are consider this: If either Party or philosophy held all 100 US Senators, all 435 Congressmen and the President for 10 years, what would our nation be like if Conservatives held them compared to what would it be like if the Liberals held them?

I propose to you that we would have two entirely different nations. It is truly a time for choosing. Which nation do you want?

Just for a moment let’s think about the deaths of the black suspects in Ferguson and NYC at the hands of police officers. Let’s think about the underlying tensions that were the root cause of the deaths. Were the deaths the result of animus against police officers, especially white officers, by blacks? Or was it animus against blacks by police officers, especially white police officers.

In my personal experience I had many, many occasions to interact with black persons of all socio economic strata. The vast majority of those persons were reasonable people with no apparent prejudice against whites or police. They were cooperative and were interested in protecting their community by ensuring that the law was enforced.

But, there was a substantial number of black persons that I interacted with who simply did not like white persons, especially police officers. Racism has no color. That set of people shared some common attributes. They despised people who gave information to the police. They were called “rats” or ‘’snitches”. An informant was called a cheese eater. A substantial set of the white haters were from lower socio economic strata. Amongst those, resisting arrest for any alleged violation of law was considered to be essential. Those who failed to resist lost stature. They were hard wired to resist any police action.

Neither the Ferguson decedent, nor the most recent NYC decedent need have died if they had simply followed the arresting officer’s instructions. They, not the police officers, wasted their lives.

If you get your news from the mainstream media, it’s not likely that you know that in the New York City death that the group of officers who were involved were under the supervision of a black sergeant, who was on the scene, supervising the arrest. Also, the division commander of the officers is a black person. It’s not likely that you know the cops were there at the request of the local merchants, the decedent had been a recurring problem for them. It’s also not likely that you know that there was no “choke hold” involved in the death. A person in a “choke hold” would not have been able to speak, his airway would have been occluded. The hold that was used is a commonly used takedown maneuver by officers that are substantially smaller that the offender. That maneuver is taught in police academy.

sick ice bag thermomoterPart 2) Obama ads in 2008 wrongly touted his Obamacare plan as “universal coverage for all Americans,” and he said in a 2007 speech in Hartford, Conn., that “I will sign a universal health care bill into law by the end of my first term as president that will cover every American.” With the help of a compliant Congress, Obama got what he wanted. Again in April 2014 Obama speechified that the Affordable Care Act meant that “everybody” would have “basic health care.”

Once again it was hollow promises. According to the CBO, in the same report quoted by yesterday’s critic the CBO projects that as of 2024 there still will be 31 million uninsured. Essentially the same number of uninsured that was bandied about when Obama was running for office. In 2007 the Census bureau was reporting that about 36 million American citizens did not have health insurance.

The CBO also reports that the ACA will result in fewer hours worked. In CBO’s projections of hours worked represents a decline in the number of full-time-equivalent workers of about 2.0 million in 2017, rising to about 2.5 million in 2024’

CBO and JCT project that, as a result of the ACA, between 6 million and 7 million fewer people will have employment-based insurance coverage each year from 2016 through 2024 than would be the case in the absence of the ACA.

YESTERDAY A POSTER CLAIMED that the “most recent” CBO report on the costs of Obamacare reflected a substantial reduction in its costs.

I have no idea of the posters source, but the most recent report that I could find was dated April 2014.

That report tells us in part that total exchange spending (mostly www.healthcare.gov) will rise about 776% – from $17B to $132B – between 2014 and 2024. The total number jumps from $17B to $77B in just the first three years.

It’s no wonder that Politico reports that only 37.9% approve of Obama/Democare. For more info and analysis I suggest: http://www.acareview.com/2014/04/cbo-updates-aca-impact-estimates/.
