| [Switching Owners] The lease for The Wreck in Grassy Key just reverted back to the original owners. Betty, who had the Wreck, and her husband, who has the Wooden Spoon, will now run a run-down deli.
The parking at the Wreck is a hassle and I couldn’t find a place to park so I popped back onto the Road (which was not too simple to do) and went over to the Outpost. The $7 hamburger is good and comes with a little side salad. Grassy Key does not offer much. ~esanM@hotmail.com |

 [Store Brands] I must disagree with the poster who said that WD’s store brands aren’t as good as the national brands. Winn Dixie is following the business model of Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods and many others in branding their own quality products and selling them cheaper. Every one of WD’s brands is better than the national brands and cheaper. If you doubt it, do a blind taste test. I did. One example is their wine label Lisabell. Their pinot noir (“peanut of the night” ha) from Italy. It is the best I’ve ever had. |

I was half snoozing, watching the Fox Channel when the commentator said that there is a company releasing bio-engineered mosquitos to breed with the Sika mosquitoes. The offspring cannot harbor the virus – or something like that. Anyway, they showed them releasing lots of mosquitoes from small screened cages. Lots of mosquitoes. That caught my attention a bit seeing mosquitoes being released? It was yucky. Then the guy mentioned that this process was experimental and it would soon be tried in the Florida Keys! AaaGggggggg! OK you got my attention. Who, what, where, and when, will this happen? or did it already happen and we’re all doomed? Big bunch of questions. |
| [Sewers] A great story was sent to the email account that was set up to collect eye-witness reports of Cudjoe Regional sewer failures. On Pirates Road in Little Torch, the contractor’s heavy machine setting a grinder pump collapsed the homeowner’s septic tank top. Nobody was home, so they just covered the hole with plywood and spread gravel over it like nothing happened. Several security cameras recorded the action. I love it! It was not really a sewer system failure but a fun story anyway. The Barometer quoted Tom Walker as saying FKAA only had a few startup glitches and the system works fine. Yeah, sure it does, Tom. If Steve Estes believed you, he may be the only one. I’m waiting for the videos of raw sewage flooding the road and panicked sewer servicemen running in circles. We will put them on the web for the world to see what “works fine” looks like in Cudjoe.  [Jersey Girls] Stephen Hawking warned that one of the greatest threats to mankind today is genetically modified viruses. At another time he said the primary threat to mankind is migrating Jersey girls. Hawking stated that these women are immune to most antibiotics and pesticides and can cause instant deafness in individuals they come in contact with due to their loud whining. He said they were contributors to global warming because of their chain smoking and continuous methane gas release. Hawking was also concerned that the exponential growth of this species could wipe out most life forms, especially in a contained area like the Florida Keys where their contagion can rapidly spread. He also said in a surprise comment that getting rid of them was necessary but a shame, as he did find some of them “cute and cuddly.” |
The whole Flint water issue was cause by government and the lack of brains within. We have the best water in the Great Lakes and if you run clean water through lead pipes you’re bound to have problems. |
