no spam junk email[Junk Mail] Every week I get at least one junk mail from Capitol One with a credit card offer. Into the trash they go without opening. Last month I got a late charge from GM Card for not paying my bill. I never received it, I thought. The trick was that after twenty years of receiving my bill in a GM Card envelope they sent it in a Capitol One envelope, and into the trash it went along with the others. When I explained this to the GM Card people they removed the late charge fee. But this month when I received my other credit card bill from Discover Card my credit rating had dropped from 826 down to 622! I’m being penalized for junk mail!

[Homeless] Those that seem so inclined to champion the homeless are simply repeating the same old tired rhetoric. Most of us in the real world, at least for the moment, are fairly well versed on their situation. A small percentage are homeless for very valid reasons. However, having said that, we are also aware that the vast majority of these seemingly unfortunate beings are in their present situation because, unless they have outside resources of some kind, they are forced there by their own doing and choices. The overwhelming reason for homelessness being substance abuse. The simple answer, not the simple doing, is to find out how they can remove the curse of their addiction. In most cases these people like where they are, as they can associate with their peers, as people without a drug problem are bored out of their ever-loving gourd with trying to help them.

“Our trocheamer* showed that we had made but twenty-five miles from Serotli. *This is an instrument which, when fastened on the wagon-wheel, records the number of revolutions made. By multiplying this number by the circumference of the wheel, the actual distance traveled over is at once ascertained.” ~From Doctor Livingston’s book Missionary Travels and Researches in South Africa (1852).

[“Re-appropriating tax money”] How can such sick SOBs con and spin the laws and take our tax money to do what they please without our permission? It seems to me if I gave a politico my money to do project X and that person does project Y instead, then that is outright theft by misappropriation. Jail time or firing squads come to mind. The Bike Path is a prime example that should have been completed 20 years ago. Our sewer system is a laughing stock in DC. Time to cull the politicos for people who care and are not self-centered egomaniacs. Are there any out there?

[Selling stuff online”] eBay is the leader for used stuff and couldn’t be easier to use. Always consider shipping costs, they’ll eat you up. I sold a cheap guitar and it cost me $90 to ship it, ruining whatever profit I was making.
home-depot-mens-wall
The coating on the walls of Home Depot’s men’s room is seamless and easy to clean. It’s been on the walls since they built the store and there aren’t any chips or cracks. I wonder what product they used.
Another hokey deal in Monroe County. The County owns the Cudjoe Region Sewer system and has contracted FKAA to operate and maintain it at this point in time. So why isn’t it the county that is demanding an easement as the owner and not the FKAA as a contractor? As the owner, doesn’t Monroe County have the right to contract anyone to operate and maintain their system? And then what? Another easement? And if we’re not stupid enough to give up some of our property rights for $1 who is going to take us thru eminent domain (chapter 73 taking procedures)? Monroe County or the FKAA? And how much will this cost the taxpayers of Monroe County or the customers of FKAA? Has anyone who actually did give up their property rights actually received that dollar? If Monroe County, the actual owner, does take us to Chapter 73 court what will their argument be when there are easements recorded on plats of subdivision specifically for utilities? I wonder what the BS line in that one will be.

[“Spammed, any suggestions”] Yeah man, pull the plugs, grow some shit, toke that barge and party hardy like you is supposed to do in these here Keys.  Amen, Dude!
dog drool
Since food establishments are getting scarce on BPK I went to Looe Key Tiki for lunch — never again. How can they serve food to the public and allow animals to sit on a stool at the bar and drool? The Health Dept. seemed interested in hearing about this practice. So much for new owners and common sense. I can’t blame this one on the snow birds.

kaya-mensKaya’s men’s room wall on Bay Point. I like when bars put stuff over the urinal to amuse me while I pee. One place used to have the front page of different sections of the newspaper over each urinal and they’d change it every day. Talk about customer service!
[“Moby Dick”] Hey, thanks man for screwing up my great memories of what I thought was a true story. Wow, what a downer dude you is!

[Spies like US] I don’t give a monkey’s mole who knows what I do or where. What chaps my butt is that they get paid to compile all this worthless info. At least they have to work for the government and have jerk off bosses with pimples and bad breath. It’s disgusting to think what some people do to have a (what they consider) life. Washington DC is way too big of a target for me to ever live in it. They all deserve each other.
haunted house ghosts[Free Homes to the Homeless] A discovery that research continuously confirms — it’s cheaper to fix homelessness by giving homeless people homes to live in than to let the homeless live on the streets and try to deal with the subsequent problems. The most recent report along these lines was a May Central Florida Commission on Homelessness study indicating that the region spends $31,000 a year per homeless person on the salaries of law-enforcement officers to arrest and transport homeless individuals — largely for nonviolent offenses such as trespassing, public intoxication or sleeping in parks — as well as the cost of jail stays, emergency-room visits and hospitalization for medical and psychiatric issues,

I like crazy, f*cked up people. At least I know what I’m dealing with. It’s the ones who seem so nice and normal that scare me.

knight helmet2FTR, Obama and Christians. Oh my! The Crusades weren’t started by Christians. It was the Catholic Church and their warrior monks and priests aka The Templar Knights also known as Poor Fellow-Soldier’s of Christ and the Temple of Solomon, and a few other names. And you also had The Hospitalers and The Teutonic Knights. All this was started by Pope Urban II in a speech on the last Tuesday of November 1095. Deus le veult (God wills it) or on the other side La alaha ila Allah (there is no God but Allah). And so it began–and still goes on!
[“Selling my stuff”] Facebook pages like Key West Yard Sale, Lower Keys Yard Sale and Marathon Yard Sale are great places to advertise your items locally. Not to mention the free Classified Ads on our own Coconut Telegraph.

[Be nice. And if you can’t do that, just don’t be mean] “I overheard your phone conversation with Mike last night about your plans to come out to me. The only thing I need you to plan is to bring home OJ and bread after class. We are out, like you now. I’ve known you were gay since you were six. I’ve loved you since you were born.
P.S. Your mom and I think you and Mike make a cute couple.”

[“Hasn’t read the CT in a long time”] I sure will hate to see the guy that posted  “same old shit ” leave. He seemed like such a congenial sort. Just the kind of person one loves to be around, but he is no doubt off to bigger and better things. So sad.
groucho in pot
[“Courtesy and hospitality“] I read that great American Indian link from yesterday.  A friend of mine worked in a diner in Texas that served chili out of a big pot that was always left simmering on the stove and was never emptied but was added to from time to  time.
I am collecting all the junk mail I get and waiting to get at least 100, then I will forward it as attachments to the FCC, the President, the ISP, and any other SOB that sends this crap and thinks it is ok to do so!

What’s up with all the whining about the round house on Cudjoe?  I remember way back hearing that the Keys were all about freedom of expression  and rugged individualism.  But I  guess that was just more wishful thinking.

[“Gun nut”] You believe our Second Amendment allows for murder? Please explain that. How can anyone read the Second Amendment to our Constitution and come away with the notion that it is a justification for homicide? The amendment is in essence meant to protect people from tyranny. Your posting about the murderer in Gearga is 180 degrees out of sink with the amendment. Perhaps you would also want to do away with the First Amendment to our Constitution because someone yelled “fire” for no good reason in a crowded theater.

I think the Discount Rock and Sand dumpster has more architectural appeal than the windowless roundhouse. At least the dumpster has a skylight.
dizzy-gillespie-cheeksDizzy Gillespie was one of the best jazz trumpet players of all time. His virtuosic playing, along with his tricked out trumpet and his freakishly elastic cheeks, turned him into a musical icon of the 20th century. But did you know that he lent his voice to an Oscar-winning movie? The Hole (1962) is an experimental animated short about two construction workers engaged in an increasingly intense conversation about free will and the possibility of an accidental nuclear war. Gillespie improvised the dialogue opposite actor George Metthews, a giant of a man who was most famous for playing movie thugs. Video

[Republican Congress is disrespecting President Obama] Congress does not need permission from the White House to invite Bibi to speak. Congress is a co-equal branch of government, much as His Majesty would like to forget that fact.
How nice of FTR to bless us Democrats by telling us what to think and what we should be mad at. I mean a person cannot possibly live a full life politically without walking lockstep with FTRs beliefs followed by the usual insults behind them if you disagree.
Unlike the FOXbots however we all have our own opinions.Democrats dont do the lockstep as Conservatives do.
Keep posting the 1/4 truths youve been known for because its entertainment you cant see at any comedy club. Kudos.

Al Gore gets an F on global warming. What happened to all that BS?? The U of Illinois Chryosphere Project has shown that Both polar ice caps have increased in size substantially over the last 2 yrs. Geologists have evidence that ice ages are cyclic, the last, the Wisconsin retreated around 10,000 yrs ago. There was a Mini ice age in the 1700’s. We are in a trough between ice ages. Mother Nature ALWAYS wins. No matter what man can do mother nature won’t be beat. Since the industrial revolution man has dumped X number of pollutants into the atmosphere. When mother nature decided it was time for Mt St. Helen to pop, more pollutants were thrown into the atmosphere than all the attempts by man to screw up our bed. MotherNature’s climate change has been going on since she(God) or the Big Bang?made earth. This feeble attempt by people out to make a fast buck is another man made Farce. It’s Always “The Bottom Line”

Of late a CT poster has been taking shots at the Republican governance of Kansas.  The thrust of the argument is that Republican governance is steering Kansas into fiscal wrack and ruin.‘Taint so! It is true that the Republican governor and Republican legislature cut taxes. It is true that that cut reduced tax revenues. Now the only germane question remains is how has those cuts impacted the people of Kansas.

arkansas flagThanks to a flush rainy day fund, Kansas finished the year $434 million in the black. The Kansas Legislative Research Department forecasts $112 million in reserves at the end of next year. But come 2016 lawmakers will have to limit spending, which has increased by nearly 20% since fiscal 2010. It is Republican dicta that cutting spending is nearly always in the public’s welfare.

The Wall Street Journal reports that total per-pupil spending has increased to $12,885 from $12,283 over four years. State education spending has risen by about 2% annually since 2010 and is set to jump 4% this year—which doesn’t include a 10% bump for teacher pensions.

It’s also untrue that tax cuts have hurt the poor. The tax rate on individuals earning less than $15,000 has fallen by nearly a quarter while the standard deduction has increased to $5,500 from $4,500. Although Republicans extended a temporary sales tax hike that Democratic Governor Mark Parkinson signed in 2010, they also reinstated a food sales tax rebate that will offset most of the cost for the poor. Kansans earning the minimum wage will net about $100 under the Republican tax reform.

Low-income workers will also benefit from small business growth in industries like construction, hospitality and food service. Since the tax cuts took effect, the gap in job creation between Kansas and neighboring states has shrunk.

Kansas’s rate of private job growth between January 2013 and June 2014 averaged 167% of that in Nebraska, 105% of Iowa and 61% in Oklahoma. That’s up substantially from prior to the tax cuts.

Kansas’s private economy last year also grew faster than the nation as a whole and on par with California, which offers a counterpoint to the liberal assault on the Brownback tax cuts. California’s growth slowed in 2013 following a huge tax increase on the wealthy. Could their tax hikes be to blame?

The people of Kansas are doing just fine with Republican governance.

anatomy bodyPart 2) Thanks for the positive thoughts. We go to Broward simply because I’ve been seeing my stable of Doc’s up there for decades. They know this old frame better than anyone. Our primary source of health care up there is the Holy Cross network. We have become fast friends with our Doc’s over the many years. Down here we see Doctor Olson in Key West, he is an absolutely excellent internist and cardiologist. I simply believe that the facilities at Holy Cross are far superior to any hospital in the Keys. Having said that, after an initial screw up, I did receive excellent care at Fisherman’s Hospital, and there is no doubt but that Doctor Smith saved my life.

PART 3) Here’s something to mull over today: The foreign-born job numbers for all workers are up 567,000 since the fourth quarter of 2007, the start of the recession, while the native-born job numbers are down by 3 million. Link

But wait….there’s more and it gets worse! Roughly one in three people born into middle-class households, those between the 30th and 70th percentiles of income, now fall out of that status as adults. Democrat governance has grievously hurt the middle class. They have controlled our governance since 2007. The rich have gotten richer, and the middle class and the poor have gotten poorer.
