[The Former Coconut Telegraph(Formerly Ed: After 13 years I stopped publishing the Coconut Telegraph on the first day of Spring. This site is too much for one person to operate. From now on I think I’ll publish on Saturdays or Sundays. Contributors will be by invitation only, in order to exclude negativity, sewers and politics. Although all advertisers’ contracts have expired I’m still going to display their ads for free until I figure out what I’m doing. Hopefully they will all want to keep advertising.)

time machine spiral[Time Travel] Person A is talking to person B. If you, person B, time travel and return to the same place you left, Person A won’t have noticed a thing because every moment of time must be accounted for. As person B, you may have experienced a lifetime in another dimension or time, but if you return to the same moment in time you started from, person A won’t have noticed you were gone.’When you alter gravity you affect time.’  ~A. [Hops Getting Scarce] The craft beer boom is upon us. In 2014, the U.S. was home to 3,200 craft breweries; this year, a new one will open every 16 hours. The trend is a boon for adventurous drinkers, but its stretching the hop supply dangerously thin.”The demand is unprecedented” says Steve Miller, hop specialist at Cornell University. Hop consumption has nearly quadrupled in the past decade, thanks in part to the popularity of super-hoppy India Pale Ales, which now account for more than a fifth of the craft beer market.

Washington’s Yakima Valley, a hotspot for domestic hop producers, can’t keep up, so single-acre hop operations are popping up on other types of farms across the country. Growers in New York, Minnesota, and Colorado provide local brewers with hops that reflect a distinctive regional terroir. In return, many brewers agree to share up-front costs, guaranteeing a market for the harvest.

“The locavore movement has gone beyond the salad bowl to the pint glass,” says Tom Britz, founder of Glacier Hop Ranch, which supplies 18 Montana breweries. This new, more diverse model may buoy the rapid rise of craft breweries. And a sustainable supply of pumpkin peach ale is something we can all drink to

Hi Formerly Ed, Have you considered making bigpinekey.com a forum where folks register and post in subforums? You could get a few trusted members to be moderators and you wouldn’t need to lift a finger most weeks. Thanks for running the C’nut Telegraph. (Formerly Ed: I’ve been trying to do just that, but the template I made doesn’t allow it, so I’m working on another template. Stay tuned…)
donut19Do arteries make a sound as they clog? If so, prepare for a symphony of saturated fats in Delaware next month. Krispy Kreme is partnering with a minor league baseball team in Wilmington to sell a bacon donut hot dog.The Wilmington Blue Rocks, a single-A affiliate of the reigning American League champion Kansas City Royals, is even asking fans to name this crazy culinary concoction — which also has raspberry jam on it.
There was another fender bender in front of Boondocks last week. In the past few years, I can recall at least four others (including a fatality). Be careful in that area – look out for people turning (sometimes suddenly) from US 1 into that popular local attraction. The lovely grass on the north side of US 1 used to be DOT right-of-way. Boondocks bought it years ago. Perhaps DOT should consider buying it back and creating a center turn lane there (“suicide lane”) on US 1
iwatch19[Apple Watch is not called ‘iWatch’] When speculation first surfaced about an Apple built smartwatch, it was thought that the device would be called the Apple iWatch. In light of other products like the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad and Apple iPod, the iWatch moniker seemed to be a no brainer. Even right up to the very day that Apple first unveiled the device, it was considered a foregone conclusion that the product would be called the iWatch. So it was a big surprise when Apple unveiled the Apple Watch last September. As it turns out, the reason why Apple could not use the iWatch name is that OMG Electronics had applied for the iWatch trademark in September 2012. The company was attempting to raise funds to produce a smartwatch on crowd funding site Indiegogo during September and October of that year. OMG was seeking to raise $100,000 and only was able to raise $1434.

In June 2007, a New York based company called M.Z. Berger & Co. filed to trademark the iWatch name, but was successfully shot down by Swiss watch maker Swatch. The latter argued that the iWatch name would cause confusion with Swatch buyers.  In the EU, a firm named Probendi has owned the rights to the iWatch name since 2008. On its website, the company threatens to take legal action against any company that uses the iWatch name in the region. As it is, in Switzerland the Apple Watch name is protected by a trademark owned by Leonard Timepieces which could delay the launch of the device in that country.

Aloha everybody! I’ve got the NY news on the TV and there’s a story about 2 guys who are going around to gas stations and stealing the tire air stations. Apparently there’s an average of $2,500 in each machine! Here’s the link.

I cannot wait for to Cuba to open for American travel without the travel ban. I was in Gitmo twice, and it was beautiful, but couldn’t get outside the gates. We are long overdue for this. I will be there before the Americans wreck it. I was on the boatlift in ’79 so I know what’s up. We (USCG) deal with Cuban gunboats every day. The Cuban people are good and the island is beautiful (don’t believe the bs), it’s long overdue

[Sundays] Great post describing the peace and tranquility Germany enjoys on Sunday, I am in for everything except the bottle clanging. I actually find the sound rather soothing. Besides, they can pile up fast on the weekend and if my neighborhood is any indication there is no way it would work on Big Pine. (Sent in good spirit. Welcome back CT).

I like the new format and it must give you a lot of relief. Perhaps just once per week to keep it fresh and eliminate all the negative crapola. How much does it cost to have a banner add on the site? I would advertise “Gator Web Services” that designs and maintains websites for small business. I would provide all of the art work and detail. The IRS killed me this year ant my accountant said I need to create a business for deductions so I don’t get screwed again next year. I have built numerous sites including “bigpinemoose.org” and “friendsofbahiahonda.org” for your reference

charging19[Electric car charging station] Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary’s latest move to encourage environment-friendly travel is a new electric car charging station at NOAA’s Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center in Key West, Florida. The charging station is part of Tesla Motors’ “destination charging” program to make travelling in an electric car more convenient. Owners can charge their plug-in electric vehicles while they tour the Eco-Discovery Center and other local attractions. The center is particularly relevant for electric car owners, as one of the facility’s many environmental exhibits explains the link between fossil fuels, rising sea surface temperatures, and changing ocean chemistry. “This was the next logical step to ‘going green’ at the Eco-Discovery Center,” said Sean Morton, superintendent of Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, which runs the center. “We’re thrilled to support car owners who have made a commitment to reducing their carbon footprint.”

Tesla provided the charger, and its installation was paid for by Florida Tesla Enthusiasts, a state-wide car club for Tesla owners. Mote Marine Laboratory, a non-profit ocean conservation organization that maintains the aquarium inside the center, will underwrite the charger’s operating costs through donations at the Living Reef Exhibit and through their “Protect Our Reefs” license plate program.  A universal vehicle charger has also been installed to accommodate most other electric vehicles already on the road.

Also glad to see you back. Your new formula seems to be what the Keys are about. Thank you.
It would be helpful if the AARP Calendar were for April rather than March. Thanks.
from the right 200hJust for the record. First: I did not choose the “handle” FTR. I believe it was our Deer Ed or one of the readers who invented it.  It is the acronym for “From the Right”. I did not invent that “handle” either, although I do wish I had invented both handles. Once again it was either the invention of Deer Ed or readers. I like both handles.Second: anonymity was not my idea, it is the ground rule of the CT, and it is ironic that yesterday’s bitcher is also anonymous.

Third: I did not ask our Deer Ed to label me “one of the leading conservatives of our time.” I’m flattered that he thinks that is so, but he is wrong.

Fourth: As much as I would have liked to continue posting on CT, our Deer Ed decided to change the format. That is his right, and I wish him well in the new format.

Fifth: I have moved the flag to Facebook. I’m learning the medium and enjoying it immensely. I urge my critics to come and do battle, to come and defend their beliefs; but they won’t, they simply do not have the stones to step out of the cloak of anonymity.  They are back shooters. Oh well, hopefully some folks who are interested in truth will come over and join the dialog.  You can find me on Facebook at Walt Lagraves.  All the best to the CT community. Walt Lagraves

Deer Ed, we who enjoyed the old CT with all the political and local static wonder how you are healing after your castration? Who cut them off the local power boyz or the sewer rats? The new world order CT is nothing but a sissified patch of useless electrons. We also wonder what our freedom of the press and speech will be like with people like you cutting off all our sacks? Things change and usually not for the better! (Formerly Ed: This poster has been banned. This is the kind of crap I hate.)
