What’s the plural of “sergeant major ” when referring to a fish? It keeps me awake at night.

[Marriage Math] The speed at which a woman says “nothing” when asked “what’s wrong” is inversely proportional to the severity of the shitstorm that’s about to hit.

Yes we have seen dolphin. I do not believe as many as last year, but it’s been so windy we have only been out about once a week. Last week, Monday, out just beyond the reef, we saw 6 having a ball and heading west down the reef’s edge. Also we have seen tons of turtles out there, but we have not been out as much this year as the wind was a bit much. Yippee! it is now grouper season. We got our live bait yesterday. Seas are only 2′ so grouper here we come! Tight lines everyone.

Centipeds-clawsCentipedes don’t sting--they bite. Centipedes are predators. They eat insects, spiders, and other centipedes. The large centipedes even eat lizards, birds, and small animals. They have a pair of claws at the front of their body. The claws have ducts that can deliver venom. The centipedes use the venom to paralyze their prey.

Centipedes do not look for people to attack. However, if a person tries to pick up a centipede, he will usually get a bite. People also get bitten when they put on garments or shoes that they have not worn in a long time.

Small centipedes may scratch a person without breaking the skin. Larger centipedes have large, strong jaws. They can deliver a painful bite. To many people, a centipede bite is like a bee or wasp sting. The reaction to the bite depends on the age and health of the victim.

Most people who get a centipede bite feel a sharp pain. They have some swelling at the bite site. The bite site often itches. These symptoms usually begin to go away in a few hours. For a small number of people, the swelling and tenderness can last for a few weeks. These people may even notice a sore at the bite site.

A few people are very allergic to centipede venom. These people may have headaches, nausea, dizziness, and even changes in blood pressure. These symptoms sometimes do not appear for an hour or more.

Experts suggest that bite victims wash the site with soap and water. This can help prevent infection if they scratch the bite. An anti-itch cream can reduce the itching. A cold compress can ease the pain and reduce the swelling. If ice is used, experts recommend applying it for 10 minutes and then removing it for 10 minutes.

Very young children may have a serious reaction to a centipede bite – especially if the centipede was one of the large tropical centipedes. Elderly people and people who have been ill might also have a serious reaction. A bite victim should be observed closely. If there are signs of an allergic reaction, seek medical attention.

[Hispanics Census] The poster misses the point entirely.  Yes, census numbers indicate that the Hispanic population is rapidly increasing and will surpass both white and black populations in the U.S. in years to come.  It doesn’t matter one whit whether these people are citizens or not, because the babies they are having are U.S. citizens.  In twenty years when these babies being born now are of voting age, the political landscape will see a major restructuring.  These young Hispanic-Americans will be bilingual, and will transform this country as we know it today.  Whether it will for the better or not remains to be seen, but the truth in the numbers of the Hispanic birth rate today has already surpassed the numbers of white babies.  The demographic and political changes of the future they will bring are already inescapable, we’re just waiting for them to grow up at this point.

[How a scientist becomes a con artist] Each case of research fraud that’s uncovered triggers a similar response from scientists. First disbelief, then anger, then a tendency to dismiss the perpetrator as one rotten egg in an otherwise-honest enterprise. But the scientific misconduct that has come to light in recent years suggests at the very least that the number of bad actors in science isn’t as insignificant as many would like to believe. And considered from a more cynical point of view, are not outliers so much as one end on a continuum of dishonest behaviors that extend from the cherry-picking of data to fit a chosen hypothesis — which many researchers admit is commonplace — to outright fabrication. [Invasion] Anybody notice how easy the other countries in the world have it, as they stay home and mind their own business?  What do they know that we don’t?  Here we are rushing around all over the place, wasting our money and people killing people whose governments we don’t approve of. They must all be laughing at us.

[Using centipedes for bait] There are so many things wrong with this picture. First of all, most land creatures cannot survive in salt water, and i don’t think you’d fish in the blue hole, the only fresh water we have. Try using night crawlers or other worms in salt water and they die instantly. Buy a dozen shrimp. We also have poisonous grasshoppers down here. I know you use grasshoppers up north for fresh water fishing but this isn’t up north. The only worms or crawly things that will survive salt water are Maine blood worms and we don’t really need them here cause our fish don’t like northerners either.

[Decoy] St. Charles auction grossed $2.8 million, making it the largest decoy auction since the Guyette, Schmidt & Deeter auction in November 2007. Fifty six lots sold for over $10,000, many of which were two or three times their estimates. Twelve auction world records for individual makers were established. Link

I like it when the first sentence of a political post starts with an insult to those who might disagree . That tells me that there is no point in reading it.

There is only one truly dangerous breed –humans.

an_ice-temp[Climate change] When dealing with buffoons one must truly have the patience of a saint, through our fairly recent past, the earth has endured ice ages, and warming spells during these ice ages at times there were ice sheets covering the earth approximately one mile thick in certain areas, during this time there were no human footprints to speak of. A simple question directed to these individuals is this:

What caused these monstrous glaciers, and in turn, what caused them to melt. Instead of ranting their sophomoric rants I would appreciate their explanation of this phenomena. Were their invisible humans or something else causing this change in our climate? What has been the median climate temp. over the last 4-5 million years? Maybe we are just advancing toward the norm, it seems a bit of research would be in order.  I believe it all has to do with the money trail and resulting in more Gov. power over our lives, which seems just fine with the present administration. As it now stands the temp. goes down, they cry global warming, the temp. goes up they say global warming. I mean it is all so confusing and as the left seems so confident on their stance on this situation I would beseech them to enlighten us a bit with their vast knowledge.

[Bait and Switch Taxes] Speaking of chuck holes. The Gov has money to destroy native trees on Summerland Key to make a trail, but no money to repair the road that gets you to the trail. Just check out the road from Middle Torch to Little Torch, I think they think we don’t notice. We pay dearly with our gasoline taxes and they use the money for something besides road maintenance.

Haitian immigrants enriching our culture]  The Miami Herald a couple of weeks ago contained the following two gems.

A woman from Haiti paid one of her countrymen in Miami $25,000 to accomplish a couple of things.  First, he was to remove a voodoo curse which had been placed on her.  Secondly, he was to give her the winning lottery numbers.  What she got for her money was that he sexually assaulted her.

Another 71 year old Haitian man was accused of sexually assaulting a twelve year old girl.  He said it wasn’t him, though, “it must have been a zombie.”

Yesterday’s CT reminded me of a serious issue that, for me, remains unsolved. I’ve asked two English professors and got different answers, and sent it to the Word Court at the Atlantic Monthly and got no reply. Here it is:

What is the plural of mouse when it applies to a computer mouse? Mouse: mice for animals; louse: lice for bugs. But when you see two guys of bad character, each a “louse”, you say they are two “louses”.

[Veterans] Two years ago, the Administration challenged the private sector to hire or train 100,000 unemployed veterans or their spouses by the end of 2013. Today, the First Lady announced that America’s businesses nearly tripled that goal and have already hired or trained 290,000 veterans and military spouses, and announced that American companies have committed to hire or train another 435,000 veterans and military spouses over the next five years. What spacecraft is humanity currently using to explore our Solar System? Presently, every inner planet has at least one robotic explorer, while several others are monitoring our Sun, some are mapping Earth’s Moon, a few are chasing asteroids and comets, one isorbiting Saturn, and several are even heading out into deep space. The above illustration gives more details, with the inner Solar Systemdepicted on the upper right and the outer Solar System on the lower left. Given the present armada, our current epoch might become known as the time when humanity first probed its own star system. Sometimes widely separated spacecraft act together as anInterPlanetary Network to determine the direction of distant explosions by noting when each probe detects high energy photons. Future spacecraft milestones, as indicated along the bottom of the graphic, include Dawn reaching Ceres, the largest object in the asteroid belt, and New Horizons reaching Pluto, both in 2015. Link

[Make Your Own Weed Killer] Here’s a weed killer option for you to make that will be safe for your environment and tough on weeds.

1 gallon of white vinegar

1/2 cup salt

1/2 cup liquid dish soap (any brand)

Funnel

Pour 1 cup of vinegar from gallon bottle, set aside to use in other things. Put salt in the gallon jug (funnel works great) and shake until all salt is dissolved, fill it with the dish soap simply shake up jug to mix well. Set aside and mark jug as weed killer. Pour in spray bottles and use as needed. This solution works best if you use it on a hot day. Spray it on the weeds in the morning, and as it heats up it will do its work.

[Bohner’s fat daughter to marry pothead] The fact that she is marrying a Jamaican and may be a little heavy is cause for your ridicule and mockery? No, the fact that her cry-baby father is a dyed-in-the-wool conservative political powerhouse who has fought many a battle against medical marijuana laws would be reason if anyone needed one. It’s a fact, she’s fat and he’s a Natty Light drinking pot head with an arrest record. Her choice reflects the generational values in our country.

“Martin Luther King was on the verge of revealing Halliburton was stealing oil from Africa in April 1968, that’s why they took him out.”

“White folks shouldn’t just pay reparations, the only REAL reparations will come when they go back to Europe and let the Africans have this country, and the Indians can go back to India too and take their tee-pees.”

“I want to know who in the defense department used that Tsunami machine off the coast of Japan.”

“George Bush should be tried in the Hague for all the crimes against Africa during his regime.”

[The Worm Turns] We have been told that the reason for the debt explosion was because while we had a Republican President it was the Democratic Congress that was responsible. Well, now that we have a Democratic President its suddenly not because of Congress anymore because they are Republicans. I smell the usual pachyderm poop.

For you who denigrate George Bush, why do the unintelligent always attack the intelligent?

[Benghazi] There are all kinds of folks in Special Forces, Republicans and Democrats too.  As great as they are they are not bullet proof.   Benghazi was awash in light and heavy weapons manned by people with a lot of practice using them.   The scenario was perfect for another “Blackhawk Down” situation to occur with all that it implies.  The risk was not worth the possible reward.  Remember our embassy in Iran?   We had to let it go, the Marine guards were told to give up.  The mistake with Benghazi, if there was one,  was sending  Embassy staff into a volatile area too soon.  The risk was evident from the start which was probably why we sent in only a few to minimize any losses.  I’m sure our brave people knew what they were getting into.

FROM THE RIGHT

right only grey

half1It seems that some members of the CT community are so prickly liberal that they are incapable of reading or thinking of racial matters without being compelled to cry racism at any mention of race. Well, Deer Friends, face it, the complexion of America is changing. It is pure fact that many votes are cast because of the individual voter’s personal perspective on racial matters. Some will vote on the issues, some will vote because of the race of the candidate, some because of the religion of the candidate, some because of the oratorical ability of the candidate. I submit that if voter chooses a candidate solely because of the race or ethnicity of that candidate, that is racism pure and simple.

It is not racist to report that 95% of Black voters chose Obama, twice. It is a fact. It is not racist to report that most persons who are Latino tend to vote Democrat. It is not racist to report that the American Hispanic population is growing. Romney did not lose because of an anti white vote, rather he lost because his message did not resonate with minorities and he was not an attractive candidate to minorities. That’s not racism, that’s fact.

All of that is true, and there is a truth that all Americans should be aware of. I urge all in the CT community to read a NYT article published on April 28 about the impact of our economy on minorities over the last 5 years. That report reveals that while millions of Americans suffered a loss of wealth during the recession and the moribund economy since the end of the recession. But the last half-decade has proved far worse for black and Hispanic families than for white families. That fact starkly widens the already large gulf in wealth between non-Hispanic white Americans and most minority groups, according to a new study from the Urban Institute.

If minority voters chose Obama because they were convinced that his promises were in their best interests, they were wrong. He has failed them. Deer Friends, are we to believe that the Brookings institute and the Urban Institute are racist for engaging in such studies, or is it racist to discuss those studies, or to simply quote them?  I think not.

foodstamps1Part 2) There are many folks who are comfortable with the current state of our welfare system. Others, like myself, believe it to be far too comfortable for the recipients of welfare. We believe that the safety net has morphed into a hammock replete with creature comforts. One very troubling example of the abuse of welfare is the story published yesterday in the Boston Herald that reveals “the Tsarnaev family, including the suspected terrorists and their parents, benefited from more than $100,000 in taxpayer-funded assistance — a bonanza ranging from cash and food stamps to Section 8 housing from 2002 to 2012”.  “The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning,” said a person with knowledge of documents handed over to a legislative committee today.

Part 3) Wow! Rasmussen reported yesterday that for the first time in in a long time, the generic Congressional preference poll shows that Republicans lead Democrats. 40/39.  On the other hand, RCP tells us that the Congressional approval poll shows that their approval rating is still in the toilet with only 14.2% approval.
