[Tax Cheat Developers] Raschein pulls support; wants company to pay property taxes on civilian units. Watching her amendment die quickly in committee Thursday, state House  Rep. Holly Raschein, R-Key Largo, withdrew her support of a bill to exempt  privately owned housing on military  land from local property taxes. -Citizen

sample29I wanted to compliment the fine folks at the tag office on BPK. Charlotte and Melissa have outstanding customer service skills. It was as painless an experience as possible given that I didn’t have all the correct documentation with me the first time. Great work on a busy day

[Bridge to Nowhere] Building the much needed Key West Airport terminal facilities that many thousands of people use yearly cost $30M.  How does it make sense to spend $20M on the Pigeon Key Bridge so a couple of people can drive their cars and trucks to Pigeon Key, that bridge that you hardly ever see anybody on?  Leave it for pedestrians to use. Do the math.

[Peary Court Developers] I would so like to believe in some politician representing us and sticking to their guns and principles. That would be such a pleasure, but it seems most of them are in Balfour Beatty’s bag.

Yesterday’s debate on HB531T tax exemption bill for Balfour Beatty begins at the 50 minute mark on the link. Video

Comments on the debate: Rep Patronis says, “the housing is old”, “technically a taxable asset”, “blows up the business plan”, “not open and competing with private sector”

The above statements not accurate.

Another Rep mentions 2015 BRAC as a threat Rep. Smith says, “lots of wear and tear” on the houses. Rep Raschein does not make additional arguments when asked if she wishes to. She did vote against the bill though. She did not oppose the strike all (sic) when she could have and did not have additional comment when invited. Russell Love attorney for Balfour comments, but does not identify his employer.

an purple heart swing[Courage Under Fire] Absolute power, corrupts absolutely. Astute intellectuals throughout the ages have admonished us with this fact. Thomas Paine writes: “The duty of a patriot is to protect his country from its government”.

As a child of the 1950’s, I took seriously the overreaching power of our government. What was termed a lack of patriotism became the rallying cry that ended the war in Vietnam, as we forged ahead with the civil rights movement. We wanted to advance the cause of freedom by not bowing to authority, but by questioning it.

Transparency determines the motives and legitimacy of the ruling elites. We want their actions clearly delineated. Assessing their integrity and effectiveness.

Individuals like the Keys’ own John Donnelly have sacrificed their blood and treasure to uphold the principles that are the cornerstone of our society. As a decorated United States Marine whose combat experience took him to the brink of death, he’s transitioned his focus upon those domestic politicians and policies that threaten our survival.

What he learned during his global combat is extremely relevant today in our battle against ‘jihadism’. Any regime is capable of incinerating its own citizens.

Recent revolutions in Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, and Mali; along with the murdering of 80,000 defenseless civilians in Syria, tell us that people who blindly follow their governments are destined to be exterminated.

The ghetto of armed Jewish resistance in Warsaw, Poland; although it did not stop the Nazis, it diverted and delayed their global jihad, allowing more time for the allies to defeat the tyranny of fascism during WW II.

My knowledge of John Donnelly confirms his vast experience in standing up for the powerless against the all powerful state. In my mind this will be his lasting legacy. Although he wasn’t in the United States when our generation stood up to authority at home, he has always fought the powers that be so that no one, be it peasant or president, is above being held accountable for their actions.

This plan of human existence shall have no demigods. We’ve been blessed with Mr. Donnelly.

I don’t know what I’d do without SprllCheck.

[In the Pockets of Big Business] I think freshman House Rep. Holly Raschein, R-Key Largo’s short lived career is over.

Saigon, March 29, 1973, the last U.S. troops retreated from South Vietnam, bringing an end to direct U.S. military involvement in the Vietnam War. This is the saddest day in America’s history. It marks the beginning of our decline. The war was lost by, historically  the most powerful military ever. And it was lost to an, actually, superior enemy who didn’t even have an air force or navy. 52,000 American heroes –dead– to find that out. Our leaders lied and deceived us for no good reason. All those Americans and two million Vietnamese died. Vietnam under Communism is united and doing much better than when divided and under the French and American invasions.

[Deadbeat Tenants] If you publish deadbeat tenants, then you can publish slumlords as well, because there are more landlords that don’t give a crap about their property or their tenants, then there are bad tenants. Lets not stop there, lets publish deadbeat parents as well. If you don’t want tenants, or take care of your rental property then don’t rent!

an twenty[Joke] Twenty dollar bill
“Have you ever seen a twenty dollar bill all crumpled up?” asked the wife.
“No,” said her husband.
She gave him a sexy little smile, slowly reached into her cleavage and pulled out a crumpled twenty dollar bill. “Have you ever seen a fifty all crumpled up?” she asked.
“Uh, no,” he said.
She gave him another sexy little smile, seductively reached into her panties and pulled out a crumpled fifty dollar bill.”Now,” she said, “Have you ever seen 30,000 dollars all crumpled up?”
“No,” he said, now really intrigued.
“Well go look in the garage.”

[Joke] I really need your advice on a serious problem: I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs: if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs up; she goes out with the girls a lot. I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I usually fall asleep. Anyway, last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the boat. When she came home she got out of someone’s car buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. It was at that moment, crouched behind the boat, that I noticed a hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket. Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace the whole bracket?

[Joke] Last month a world-wide telephone survey was conducted by the United Nations. The only question asked was: “Could you please give your honest opinion about solutions to the food shortage in the rest of the world?” The survey was a massive failure because of the following:

1. In Eastern Europe they didn’t know what “honest” meant.2. In Western Europe they didn’t know what “shortage” meant.3. In Africa they didn’t know what “food” meant.4. In China they didn’t know what “opinion” meant.5. In the Middle East they didn’t know what “solution” meant.6. In South America they didn’t know what “please” meant.7. In the USA they didn’t know what “the rest of the world” meant.8. In Canada , they all hung up as soon as they heard the East Indian accent.

Thank you very much for your kind vacation wishes. I was surprised and pleased at how many there were. Here are a few of them. ~Editor

~Enjoy your vacation! This site is a hoot! And we go to all the business that you advertise! For two weeks I have to depend on the liberal radio news…yuck!

~Deer Ed. In your absence we will put this high ranking doe I captured last night, running down the street in South Euclid, in charge. Bon voyage. Hopefully your spring break in warm and with lots of sexual gyrations and cold beer rather than freezing cold Cleveland and my in laws.

~Enjoy your enema!

~Deer Ed, Have a great vacation, you deserve it. While you are gone I will have to start my mornings reading Keysnews.com. Keysnet.com and Keysso.com instead of bigpinekey.com. I will have to read Sheriff’s Facebook a little longer and maybe start reading my emails.

~Sometimes I stay on your website clicking on the links for stories and videos and my email backs up for a week. I will miss reading bigpinekey, so remember that we all anxiously await Godspeed for your return. Lord please help me if I get so bored that I read Sloan or Sal’s websites.

~Deer, Deer Ed, Thanks for all you do. We will miss most of it and hope you have a great time. Now all we have is Bashinsky

an_wheelchair_rotate[Disability Fraud] There are about ten to eleven million citizens receiving disability benefits. That’s a lot of fake injuries.  Not after paying for an attorney to fight my battle with the Social Security Administration in order for me to get the disability coverage from a program I paid into for 42 years. I was fortunate enough for them to understand that I had an injury that would not allow me to work again — ever.  Granted I have some good days where I can actually walk my dog for a few blocks but then there are other days I cannot get out of bed.  I cannot sit or stand for any length of time.  I cannot bend, lift more than a gallon of milk, or by any means twist the body at all.

Because I paid in the maximum SS all my working life, I was fortunate enough to get $25,200 annually from them because of my disability.  But then my medical insurance costs $5300 annually, prescriptions $1432 annually, and this year my dental expenses were down to $2700.  That leaves me $18,268 to pay for all my other living expenses here in the Florida Keys where life ain’t cheap.

You knew it was just a matter of time, but the Sandy Hook conspiracy theories are blooming. The whole thing was staged by Obama as an excuse to grab your Bushmaster.  Gun nuts rock ‘n rule.

Federal Election Commission lawsuit charges former Idaho Sen Larry Craig of misusing $217,000 in campaign funds for his legal defense after his arrest in a 2007 airport bathroom sex sting.

Now if Sen Craig had been a Democrat, FTR would be accusing Obama of being in the bathroom with Craig doing the dirty deed. But being a Republican, FTR doesn’t mention it until he sees it on the CT then apologizes for not mentioning it. Or he’ll turn it around so that Craig was really an undercover Democrat all along.

Kudos to FTR Guy. Keep up the good editorials. I never thought our country would be so wrongly divided The poor against the rich, I’m working since 17yrs old, raised my family, sent them to private schools, worked 2 jobs along with my husband. I never ask for a hand out, just kept on working and still doing it far past my retirement age. Work ethics are a thing of the past.

an_snail_smFederal government spends $800,000 to study benefits of snail sex.

[Gun Nuts] This morning, President Obama talked about the tragedy in Newtown, which happened 104 days ago, and brought a room to silence with a simple point:

“The entire country was shocked,” he said. “And the entire country pledged we would do something about it and that this time would be different. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten. I haven’t forgotten those kids. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten.”

an_dunce_horse

President Obama is reaching out to Republicans on kind of a personal level and they mock him for doing so.  They are the ones who ought to have the Jackass as their party symbol.  Actually that would be an insult to actual jackasses.

The stock market is not really up as high and breaking all records. It’s just another part of Obama’s conspiracy to fool us all into thinking the economy is getting better.

FROM THE RIGHT

right only grey

Floridita00 Way to go Deer Ed.  Enjoy your vacation, stay away from all computers and just kick back. If you head for the rustic tropics, do yourself a favor and find a bar keep who will make you a real, honest to God, no BS daiquiri like Papa Hemingway enjoyed in La Floridita bar, Havana, Cuba. All the dude, or dudette, has to do is take:

2 ounces of Bacardi Light rum,

1 ounce of fresh squeezed lime juice (it must be fresh),

1 tablespoon of bar sugar,

Shake with crushed iced (blenders are for rookies), strain and serve in a cocktail glass with a thin slice of lime.

It doesn’t get much better than that. By the way, watching a dudette shake a cocktail is a lot more fun than watching a dude.

Part 2) The poster who charged that this Olde Fart wants all government programs to fail just doesn’t get it. The fact is that there are many government programs that are vitally important. The defense our nation springs to mind. Medicare/Medicaid, and Social Security spring to mind. The list is long. This Olde Fart is totally convinced that our government simply now has too many programs it has become as invasive a cancer. I believe that government is no longer actually serving our people, but rather that it has become a runaway horse. I bitch and piss and moan about Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid because  they are being horribly mismanaged. If they are to continue to exist and to serve their original purpose that mismanagement was be canned, and the programs reformed.

an_snail-rocketThe misuse of our tax dollars is enough to give any sentient person agita. For example your government has recently spent nearly $900,000.oo studying the sex lives of Tasmanian snails. Or how about spending millions during these times to build bike paths. Or how about, during these times of fiscal instability and exploding debt, the US Navies purchase of 450,000 gallons of biofuels for $12 million—or almost $27 per gallon—simply to showcase biofuels.

Maybe, just maybe, in times of prosperity,  some of those projects might be a fair idea, but not now when we have to borrow 40 cents of ever dollar that our government spends. Not now when just the interest on our national debt is our fourth biggest budget item.  We spend more on just our debts interest than we spend on education, the USDA, Food Stamps, The State Department, etc.,  etc.,  etc.. You’re damned right that I’m convinced that our current managers are failing us and must be kicked out.

This Olde Fart simply wants the current managers of our government fired, out the door. I believe that we will be stuck in morass of mismanagement until they are. I’m convinced that the debt that the current admin has rung up will be a burden on our children and grandchildren. That’s just fundamentally wrong!

bobcat29Part 3) Aviation (sort of) question answer.  Sky Kings (Kirby Grant) first plane was his own personal Cessna T50, AKA Bobcat. It was a twin radial engine tail dragger made of tube steel, wood and fabric.  The USAF used them for a time as training and utility aircraft.
