A dead battery at Winn Dixie showed me how great people are on these islands. Several attempts were made to jump us but she can not do it. Finally my daughter arrived with heavy jumpers bought at NAPA on Big Pine. They stayed open waiting for her and after selling her the cables, Richard, the owner, came with a jumper box and fired that sucker up.

Customer service is not dead. It’s at NAPA on Big Pine. Richard has my business and he is going to be happy because both cars are near the 100K mileage and everyone knows what happens then.

Thanks to Ed N. for trying everything and to the unnamed people who hooked their cables to old Jenny as well. Wow, I am impressed by the goodness on Big Pine even though everyone sounds so mean on these postings. Why can’t we all just get along?

[Grinder Pump Problem] Elect the FKAA board members and end your worries.

panel14[Financial Burden Increasing] In the last two days I have met two more people who will have to replace the entire electrical service in their homes to accommodate a sewage grinder pump connection demanded by FKAA. Both wonder where the several thousand dollars will come from to pay for the electrical upgrade. This is in addition to the thousands for the forced plumbing revisions and septic tank abandonment. It is also additional to the $4,500 tax lien imposed by the County.

I did talk to one guy who isn’t worried. He said, “My house is already in foreclosure. I tossed FKAA’s demand for an easement in the trash. Let the bank worry about it.” The FKAA and County are shamefully uncaring about how their cost-saving decisions affect those who can least afford the additional expense. All this just to make funds that were meant for sewer construction available for empire building (Rowell’s Marina purchase).

Shame on you BOCC. Shame on you FKAA. Demand that FKAA and the County work together to get grinder pumps off private property! There is a Grinder Pump Petition online that you can support and add a comment to, but in addition you should take every opportunity to make your concerns known to County and FKAA officials. Be certain to remember this issue and how it was handled in the next election.

[“Newly paved US 1 through the Torches is so smooth”] Not! Between MM 28.5 and MM 29.5 it’s like a roller coaster. The new surface is smooth but is surely not even. I hope they plan on adding another layer of asphalt and making it level.

[Conspiracy Man] LAX Airport. Just like in all the other recent (False Flag) shootings that have taken place, the witnesses being interviewed by our trustworthy media seem to be hired false witnesses. Coincidentally, many of these witnesses seem to have a knack for being around in some of these unfortunate incidents over and over again. It has been shown that some of these witnesses being interviewed by the media were also in Sandy Hook, 9/11, and the Boston Marathon. Wouldn’t you consider that an extreme coincidence?

Only one witness on this video seems to be the most credible, and her testimony, conflicts with the testimony of all the rest of the suspicious, but supposedly credible witnesses. Please judge this for yourself. Video

I’m a military veteran and proud of it.  Believe it or not, it’s ok with me if you decide to not serve your country, and I don’t belittle you for that.  It’s ok if you don’t understand the pride, honor and hardship that comes with military service to your country. I don’t care if you move to Canada to avoid it and I don’t belittle you for that either.  It’s also ok if you don’t agree with the benefits my country promised me for my service, because I realize you are uninformed, you don’t understand, and many years ago you, could have obligated yourself and received benefits from these same services but chose not to.

But it is not ok for you to slander my service to my country, my military branch, or that of any others, because you’re ignorant.  I can’t help but wonder if you have anything to be proud of about yourself.  If you do, why not tell us about that instead?  Oh, did I mention that my medical benefits come with a co-pay,  just like an insurance policy?

[“Peary Court tax issue” goes to trial”] It’s not just Peary Court, and not just Key West, but all of the privatized housing now owned by Balfour Beatty in Florida. Thousands of privately held ( formerly owned by us), units have been evading property taxes since 2007 all over Florida. Grinder pumps came into use in 1968 by Eone. This is the pump our county plans on giving us.  It is considered the best available technology of its kind, yet it has been around for over 45 years and it is still not perfected.  They constantly break down all over the country. They are inconvenient and to this day are poorly understood by many leaders who wish to bestow them on the public.   It is time someone came up with a better way  to treat sewage or stick with the tried and true gravity system.

[Defense] I don’t think the poster ever said the coast guard acts cowardly or is a cop out to serving in a real theater of battle. But I do know they do a bunch of fishing once they are out of view of land.

HDD-VS-SSD[Eraser] Unlike with traditional spinning platter hard drives, none of the existing secure erase techniques are effective in data destruction on Solid State Drives (SSD). Thus the National Security Agency (NSA) requires that such devices containing a SSD be disintegrated to a 2mm or smaller particle using a NSA/CSS evaluated Disintegrator.

Small thumb-drive type products can be disintegrated in office Disintegrators if the volume is small and they are fed sparingly with other materials. Full sized SSDs should be opened before destruction. Boards and chips should be removed and fed into an industrial Disintegrator (10 HP or more). Housings can be discarded in the trash or your metals recycling program. In the case of devices that cannot be opened, the entire host device needs to be disintegrated to prevent any data (even deleted) from being recovered.

A false sense of security lies for those who think encryption alone is sufficient to prevent recovery, encryption standards are broken in time and most users can’t remember passwords long and complicated enough to thwart computerized cracking programs. So to be sure it’s really gone, blend it. Video

hag14[Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful] Attractive women should not include a photo with a job application. In an experiment that involved sending out more than 2,500 resumes either with or without photos of the applicant, economics researchers Bradley Ruffle at Ben-Gurion University and Ze’ev Shtudiner at Ariel University Centre sought to answer the question of whether being good looking could help you find a job. The answer surprised them: Not if you’re a woman. Pretty women faced an uphill struggle to get a chance at a job.

The economists hadn’t reckoned on the fact that 93 percent of the HR staffers deciding whether to call in someone for an interview were female. It turns out that HR women (who also tend to be young and single and hence still in the dating market for men) are eager to meet with handsome men. But they’re jealous of beautiful women. So your business is losing out on talented people (and wasting time with untalented ones) based on their looks. Link

[Words to live by] No man is an island,  entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend’s or of thine own were;  any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.  ~John Donne

radiation warning rotate[Grinder Pump Warning Label] “Don’t Flush These Items Down the Toilet – They Clog or Burn Up the Grinder Pump”

Abrasive debris such as sand

Cat litter, kitty litter, or other fine gravel or clay products (such as aquarium bottom gravel – don’t clean your fish tank by dumping the gravel, sea shells, or other solid waste into a toilet)

Caustic chemicals

Cigarette butts are not biodegradable and should not be flushed. And the filters on cigarette butts can clog and destroy  pumps.

Clay such as modeling clay or children’s play-doh® modeling compound can enter and clog sewage grinder pumps

Cloth strips or scraps, rag fragments

Clothes dryer sheets used as fabric softener or to make your dry clothes “smell nicer” –

Coffee grounds

Condoms won’t clog a pipe but like some other debris, because they are of modest size and are quite flexible, but condoms are (usually) not bio degradable. So we listed condoms, or other latex products such as latex gloves above as “never flush”.

Cotton swabs (Q-tips®) have been known to clog a drain or two – not biodegradable, though trivial in volume.  This material can clog the pump impeller and cause expensive pump damage or motor burnout.

Dental floss – is not biodegradable, though trivial in volume, dental floss can enter and clog grinder pump and effluent pump mechanisms

Degreasing solvents

Diapers and similar items which are not biodegradable will simply clog  system and are very likely to clog building drains

Disposable wipes – such as baby wipes or personal hygiene wipes, even products described as “biodegradable” or “OK for use in septic systems” may NOT be OK: if your system is a grinder pump, this material can clog the pump impeller and cause expensive pump damage or motor burnout.

Explosive or flammable materials

Glass or glass fragments

Grease waste, cooking fat, lard, etc.

Hair waste such as hair clippings

Latex condoms, gloves, or similar products –

Oils such as lubricating oils

Metal shavings, scraps, debris

Mud, silt, sand

Paper towels and facial tissues (Kleenex™) do not break down easily and should not be flushed

Panty liners should never be flushed down a building drain

Plastic bags or other plastic scrap or trash of any kind should never be flushed down a building drain, nor any other plastic scraps, fragments, or objects

Sanitary napkins should never be flushed down a building drain

Sticks, even toothpicks and cotton swabs can enter and clog grinder pumps

String or cord – like dental floss above, can clog or bind grinder pump

Tampons should not be flushed down a building drain

Wipes such as baby wipes or clean-up or makeup removing wipes

Any other solid, semi-solid objects that do not dissolve readily in water.

If anyone but yourself will be using anything from toilets to sinks, etc. in your home and you are slated for a grinder pump, make sure you have signs posted around your home. Children will need supervision.

Reference the last article on November 11th under “From The Right”;  I hope this person knows whom I refer to.  I’ve made several comments to this site over the past few weeks and some of what you write about refers to those. You did an outstanding job with your summary and my only regret is that I am unable to put my thoughts to paper as well as you.  Thanks and keep up the great work.  To the person that responded to my “Welfare not for the Well” on the same day; You’re right.  My loving wife keeps telling me the same thing.  I guess it’s time I started listening to her. To the publisher of the C.T., thanks for giving me a place to express my thoughts.  I know it does little in the big picture to post here and vent, but sometimes the pressure relief valve holding back the crap in todays world, just has to open.

lincoln monument waving

[“Lincoln was a Republican”] That is true, but in those days Republicans leaned to the Left and Democrats to the Right. It used to be that Republicans were for the people and Democrats were for business. Now their ideologies have completely reversed.

Opting out of insurance and being self sufficient is easy when your insurance “is provided thru my employer”.  What a clueless jerk. I’ll chalk it up to the writer being under 30.

[Regressive Hypocrisy #4] Remember when Republican Representatives stood outside the WW2 Natl. Park during the shutdown? Remember them saying they will always stand up for the vets? Always? They recently voted to cut food stamps from 900,000 veterans!

President Obama had the first 2 years of his term in office unchallenged. Total democrat control allowed him this. That’s when this mess started. The liberal ,socialistic agenda being pushed through by the democratic majority. In 2010 the Tea Party came to the rescue. They have worked very hard to slow down the damage President Obama & his liberal Democratic congress had done & are still doing. Everyone of you that can see what a disaster this health care takeover has the conservative Republican’s & Tea Party to thank for doing everything possible to slow the train wreck down. Think before you vote this time. Remove these liberal, socialist from office. We can & must do better. Take your country back.

Is there any proof that Obama knew some people would not be able to keep their insurance before he made the statement that everyone would be able to keep their existing insurance. Period?

There is not one Regressive who wants to fix the healthcare.org website. They are happy as can be to deny insurance to the masses.

[“57% of all personal bankruptcies are due to debt caused by health issues”] Someone posted a link to a CNBC article that was suppose to back up that statement, but when I read it, all it had was estimates.  Where are the facts?  Where is the real data to back up that claim?  There isn’t any, because it’s an assumption that cannot be proved.  It’s convenient for those promoting Obamacare, but it’s deceiving to present such statements as fact. Unfortunately that doesn’t bother most people on the Left.

Dear FTR Guy,
Your relentless political post on Coconut Telegraph finally turned me around to your way of thinking.
Said nobody, ever.

[The Noble Lie] The evaluation that Obama’s lie was a noble lie seems increasingly delusional with every passing hour, but let’s stipulate for the sake of argument that ObamaCare was a well-intended policy: that Obama pushed for it out of a sincere desire to help people. That would make its failure an example of what the scholar Barbara Oakley calls pathological altruism.

That seems to us, however, to give Obama too much credit. For one thing, it takes more than altruistic motives to justify lying. Suppose one could establish that Bernie Madoff sincerely wanted to make his clients wealthier. Would that mitigate his guilt for defrauding them?

Further, good intentions are not the same as pure intentions. People often have altruistic and selfish motives for the same action. Even if we assume Obama honestly wanted to help people and made his fraudulent promise in pursuit of that goal, it would be silly to deny he also made it in pursuit of his own aggrandizement–of the approbation that comes with a “legacy” of substantial “achievement.”

Of course, that’s not working out so well for him now. Whether or not this is a case of pathological altruism, it definitely is pathological narcissism. Link

from the right

monkey pileThe wildly botched roll out of the Affordable Care Act is providing all sorts of political drama and comedy.

Mr. Obama has become toxic to many Democrat politicos. On the left side of aisle in both Houses of Congress we can hear the beginnings of a hue and cry to at least delay the implementation of the act and to actually honor the “you can keep your policy/doctor” promise

Think of the Democrats as Indians. Then think of the Lone Ranger and Tonto hunkered down as they are under attack by the Indians. The Lone Ranger says to Tonto: “We’re in deep trouble Kemosabe”.  Tonto walks off and says to the Lone Ranger: “What you mean by “we” black/white man?” Obama’s approval rate is nearing the numbers of GWB, for the time being O is at 39% and falling. He is very much a lame duck president.

Democrat politicos standing for office in 2014 from all around the country are seeing their polling numbers plummet while the numbers for their likely Republican opponents are ramping up.

Even Bubba Clinton, Obama’s “explainer in chief” is bailing on him, urging him to honor his oft repeated promise that “If you like your insurance plan, if you like your Doctor, you can keep them. Period!” Obama’s credibility is in the pits, especially since it has been learned that when he mouthed those lies, he knew that he was lying.

As time marches on, we learn of more and more calamitous failures in the Democrats Affordable Care Act.  We’ve just learned that the ACA  “navigators” were not subjected to a back ground investigation.  So, the person who is supposed to help you sign up, the person that you give all of your personal date, Social Security number, income, age, address, etc., may well be a felon. Already we have seen “navigators” caught on video encouraging applicants to lie. Shades of Acorn.

Now we have just learned that the entire ACA computer/software packages were not vetted by Homeland Security to determine if the data contained therein was safe. And, to determine if the system was adequately protected from hacking. We’ve also just learned that already there have been denial of service assaults on the system. One must wonder if those are a part of failure of the system to work. Think about it.  Just pretend that the system is up and working, and you are depending on it for your health care. Imagine the carnage if the damned thing just quit working.

We know that Obama has now brought in people that he bills as the best and brightest in the industry to fix the mess. Then ask yourself why in the hell was it that the best and brightest didn’t do the job from the very beginning.

While you’re thinking about that, please consider that the firm hired for the $678 million job was hired in a no bid process. That firm, CGI group, a Canadian enterprise had been fired from a similar project by the Ontario government.

It’s worth pondering why, given its screw ups, that it is now receiving even more big government contracts.  It’s also worth noting that CGI has a record of mediocre, at best, performance on government contracts pre Obamacare.

Perhaps some answers might lie in the fact that one of the top execs in the company was a college classmate and good friend of Michelle. Perhaps another contributing factor might well be found in the reports that CGI has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Obama and Democrat politicos.

Deer Friends, please don’t make the mistake of blaming this mess solely on Obama. Democare was designed and built by Democrats. Not a single Republican voted for it. Democare is a classic example of the bankruptcy of the Democrat theory and philosophy of governance.
