Back years ago the signs entering BPK told us there was only so many deer left.  At one point the number was like 130 deer.  Twenty years later, we have "killed" thousands according to these annual reports, plus those that die of natural causes (like out of control fires lit by FWS).  These reports are created by over educated academics with no real world experience who got phederal jobs right out of college and use statistics and bullshit to justify their jobs.

It's not too late to change your blues name.

[Explosives] My computer bag does double duty as gun case.

I traveled with my boat bag and forgot to remove my emergency flares. I was selected for the extensive search by TSA and they totally emptied my bag, but missed the zippered compartment containing the flares. Their sniffer technology also failed to detect the explosive flares.

Where do you go for vacation if you live in the Florida Keys?

No where!  The locals just wait for the old, over-medicated, northern sloths to leave.  This place is paradise in the summer time, and it get's even better when a hurricane appears out at sea--and the rest of the newly transplanted "wanna-be-islanders" flee for the safety of the mainland.

Warning!  This has been a warm winter, the ocean temps are high, could be a bad year for hurricanes, get out while you can!  Go north now!

There was a report that 150 Key Deer were killed by vehicles in 2011

Keys Attorney must return $10K The state Supreme Court has reprimanded an Upper Keys land use  attorney, ruling that he must refund  $10,000 in fees he collected from  land use activist Sal Gutierrez. The court has disciplined attorney Jim Mattson. He also was ordered to  attend Florida Bar ethics classes. The Florida Bar found that Mattson took $10,000 in fees from  Gutierrez, but did not follow through  on a series of lawsuits or other legal  work for the client.

Uhhhh yeah.  That oughta work great til they find that errant brass that fell into your bag accidently or worse, the live bullet you failed to find before packing for a trip.  Break down and buy a range bag or a surplus backpack.  The crap you'll incur at the hands of some mindless TSA agent is not worth the hassle, not to mention the lawyers fees and charges.  (Ammo in a carry-on is a no-no, and empty brass is considered suspect)

This is where FedEx left my air conditioner after actually dropping it out of the van. There were no obstructions keeping him from backing to my house and leaving the box under the house like UPS does.

Iguanas Gone Wild: Iguana’s are non indigenous to the Florida Keys and therefore have no standing or protection and killing them is no more than sound pest control. The Florida Keys stock of Iguanas has grown rapidly over the last decade. There are several varieties a feral Iguana, but the green iguana is most common and the tastiest. The Florida Keys has sufficient stocks of Iguanas to allow avid sportsmen the opportunity to bag a few for the family cook out. The Iguanas are called “Pollo Del Arbor” by local Hispanic groups, or chicken of the trees in English.  "Iguana stew along with a bottle of red wine makes a great meal.” With the newness of Iguana recreational harvesting, the Florida Wildlife Commission has yet to set bag limits, license fees, regulations or methods of legally taking the reptilian delicacy. The Iguana Killers Club (IKC) suggests a $5 “iguana tag” good for a month of air gun hunting that would not only help keep these dirty reptiles in check and  it would probably get more young boys/girls into enjoying the thrill of the great sport of hunting. Looking down the rifle barrel, with your cheek against the gun stock, centering the intended victim in the crosshairs of the scope and gently squeezing the trigger can give the hunter a natural high.  Concerns by various reptile rights groups “Iguana huggers” want you to call an animal rescue league so that these invasive reptiles can be “euthanized humanely.” Freezing as a method of euthanasia is generally accepted as humane, just as is a direct head shot from your IKC41 rifle. In the field, a large cooler of heavily brined ice is sufficient. Drop your wounded Iguana in and be sure to have a solid locking mechanism for the cooler lid. Once the cooler goes quite and still you know that you have humanly frozen the invasive reptile to death.  Iguana meat is considered a delicacy in the Caribbean Islands and with meat prices as high $28.00 per pound and with the economy in the tank and still going down, Iguana is a good source of freshly killed meat for a family meal. With Iguanas being feral game in South Florida, sale of Iguana meat is lawful. Kill-and-grill does not constitute a crime. Once you have had a taste of fresh fried Iguana it is doubtful that you will wish to sell or give away any surplus meat. Iguana meat freezes well and keeps for up to six months. The tail tastes about like tender gator tail, and the legs and back strap are as tender as frog legs. Iguana eggs are great cooked as an omelet with fresh goat cheese and a mild salsa sauce. Kander Bluff, President of Lunatics Anonymous, in conjunction with the Daytona 500 has invited NASCAR driver, Jimmy Johnson, driver of the #48 Lowe’s car to attend the Valentine’s Day Iguana Tournament and cook off. This should be an excellent educational and family fun filled all day event. The event will close with a spectacular fireworks display.

Deer Ed, am running tardy getting a teaser to you in time for no-edit Saturday, but in case you see this in time, there will be a post at goodmorningfloridakeys.com today, which takes somewhat comical twists and turns re youse and meses' history, my practicing law without a license in the Keys - almost but not quite, some discussion of the senior living facility provider down Key West way pulling out of negotiations on the heels of it coming to the attention of the city that the CEO of the provider and a bit of a criminal record arising out of frauding money out of someone and a rather largish $19 million court-ordered restitution apparently not yet made, plus a civil damage suit in progress over same matter asking for a mere $284 million, accompanied by this interesting comment in The Citizen article about it today: "Some city officials said they were dismayed that the existence of the conviction was not disclosed much earlier in the process. There are no indications that the [criminal] record was directly connected to any of the recent developments, including Dover's [the provider's] withdrawal from the deal." From all I read of the negotiations, the provider was pretty much trying to get something for nothing all along. Click: goodmorningfloridakeys.com

Tip #36: This Valentine's day, try some roleplaying! You can pretend you're former Vice President Adlai Stevenson and your lover can pretend they are NOT bound and gagged in the trunk of your car.
**Excerpt from "Gary Busey's Guide to Lovemaking"

While you were away more and more articles appeared in the news about the increasing number of rules, regulations and closed seasons for both the commercial and recreational fisherman/woman.  There is a humorous satirical column in the February issue of FishMonster Magazine that very simply points out the inevitable outcome of all this legislation.  It appears on the inside back pack page.  Read it - you'll laugh.

If the Westboro Baptist Church pickets your funeral. You've probably done something worthwhile with your life.

The Dow closed yesterday at the highest it has seen since 2008.  The jobless rate has dropped every month for the past 23 months, to 8.3. Our economy is improving!  We all need to stay the course, work together, share ideas and have faith in America.   President Obama must have another four years .  Romney?  Newt?  Really?

The economy is improving every month yet some Republicans remain in denial. Is hate that great in their ranks or are they stupid?

3 days ago I was listening to the Rush Limbaugh show.I like to hear the views from the Tokyo rose section of Amerca

He told his audience that the upcoming job numbers this week will show the real story. The story of how by now all of the recent hirings were because of the holidays and by now they were all let go again. So I figured that maybe hes right it was only because of the holidays so I waited to see the numbers and sure enough Rush was...............wrong.So I turned to the anti American FOX news whiners and Rushs radio show spin went off into a completely different reason for the numbers. He said the numbers are wrong and that the numbers were not true.Well the numbers have never ever been true so where was the news?In other words if the numbers were worse then Rush is a genius and accurate sothsayer. If the numbers were good then its complete baloney and its all a shell game. You have to love folks that set themselves up in no lose situations. The scary part is the flock believes them.

The U.S. economy picked up 243,000 jobs in January as the unemployment rate dropped to 8.3 percent, the Labor Department reported on Friday.

The surprise decrease in unemployment—the lowest level since February, 2009—boosts President Obama's election-year narrative of slow, steady economic improvement during his term.

The labor-force participation rate held steady, suggesting that the most recent drop in unemployment was due to jobs being added, rather than workers becoming discouraged and no longer seeking employment.

Economists surveyed by Bloomberg had expected payrolls to grow by 140,000 (compared with 200,000 in the previous month) and the unemployment rate to hold steady at 8.5 percent. The number of jobs added in November and December was revised up in Friday's report by a collective 60,000.

The largest employment gains in January came from professional and business services, leisure and hospitality, and manufacturing. The number of government employees remained approximately the same.

I have a feeling we will be told tomorrow again of what the "real numbers" are and what the numbers "really mean".Expect it.I do.

Americas been on the road back and no matter how hard the right trys to cast its doomsayers predictions and the chickern little sky is falling mentality. Its not working.America never left being a great country. Its right wing just likes to paint that picture.

A recent study published in
Psychological Science reveals that that lower cognitive ability predicts greater prejudice and endorsement of right-wing ideologies (social conservatism, right-wing authoritarianism). I now understand where FTR is coming from. http://pss.sagepub.com/content/23/2/187.full

[From the Right] This started out to be a blistering denunciation of the liberal media and Team Obama. But in the spirit of trying to present a kinder and gentler FTR, it will only provide you with some facts to think about.  No doubt you have heard of the grotesque and false claim from Team Obama that the latest unemployment numbers are great news.  OOOOOPs, sorry, that just slipped out. The latest unemployment claim is that the unemployment rate has declined to about 8.3%. It is presented as being great news. There is no doubt but that certainly sounds wonderful, even uplifting. Given that, you certainly would think that a lot more folks were working now than were working last month.  But, if you did think that, you were dead wrong.

Deer friends, in December of 2011, 140,681,000 Americans had actual jobs. In the following month, January 2012, only 139,944,000 Americans had actual jobs.  That is the real number, not seasonally adjusted by Obama’s BOLS wonks. Deer Friends, we actually lost 737,000 real jobs in January alone.  We are going backwards. We are slipping. There were nearly a quarter of a million fewer people with jobs in January than there were in December.  Certainly worse is the fact that there were nearly a million more folks who gave up looking for work in January, ‘12 than in Dec, ’11.  Those folks are labeled as being “not it the labor force”. Sadly, those folks have given up.

I know that all of this is very, very hard to believe. I know that we all really want to believe our President tells us. Do yourself and our nation a huge favor and check it out for yourselves athttp://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t09.htm.  It will only take you a moment. That web address is Obama’s Bureau of Labor Statistics web site. It published yesterday’s BOLS unemployment report for January.  Please, please take the time to peek behind the curtain so that you can see for yourself and then make rational decisions.

Deer Friends, I goofed, in the previous posting I said that about one million folks had simply given up looking for work.  That may have been wrong.  If you will look at the chart to be found at: http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t02.htm, you will find that actually there were about 1.36 million fewer people actually in the work force in January than there were in December.  In other words, it is really much worse than I thought!
