Are there now any commercial airline flights coming into the
Marathon Airport? |

I drove through Big Pine today and saw that not
one highway property has made an improvement since last year. Notice how
beautiful Key Largo is and then drive to BPK only to get depressed at
the ugliness of your town. So sad to see this area like this. No pride
here. |

[$30,000
for Mosquito TV] I have been meaning to post about that for some
time now, but someone else did yesterday, thank you. Could it be that
$11,000,000 is possibly being spent on things that have little to do
with actually controlling mosquitoes and more to do with justifying the
budget? Someone said it best during an interview just before the
elections when asked why the budget had blossomed to $11,000,000, the
candidate stated that you have to ask for as much as you can get.
And the Dengue
fever announcement just a few weeks before the elections, that was
rich! Talk about scare-mongering us with planted information into
rubber-stamping that budget request with a big OKs
$30,000.00 for
Mosquito TV. We can't wait to tune in and be thrilled this Wednesday at
7pm on channel 5 9If you’re even able to get it) |

[Rock
Snot] The algae's slang name describes the species
better: "rock snot". Though it looks slippery, it feels more like a wet
shag carpet. "This stuff covers everything for miles," Ryland said
during a recent visit to the river. "All the little bugs that live in it
have a hard time surviving. If they don't survive, the fish don't
survive, and we lose that recreational opportunity." Those blooms can
also clog water systems and hydroelectric facilities.

[Accused of bad writing] I write as I speak. One
would be wise to do so at the expense of being seen as inauthentic. I
suspect you write as you think, i.e. simplex and with vehemence. With
how many syllables are you comfortble before you are bored? I'd like
to be helpful. I've heard folks say they can talk better than they can
write. You, sir or mandam, mention you are glad you make me want to
vomit. I'm sorry to disappoint you. I've never said that. It is just
another example of your careless allegations. Did I detect you were
attempting to educate me regarding legalities? You can bet your bippy
that what you write is slander if it can be linked to you. Without that
it is simply mean spirited, misinformation, and cowardice.
Boring...yawn. Go back to sleep. |

Last
week was Austin Fashion Week and the event's 'Keep Austin
Beautiful' show featured upcycled and recycled designs from Texan
artists. Designer Tina Sparkles created a one-shouldered frock, called
'System Supernova,' out of discarded computer wire. Sure, it might not
be too movement-friendly, but the multicolored twists and inherent
volume of the material made for a fab, full-bodied skirt. |

[Sloan] 8:45 a.m. this morning brings Monique
Acevedo before Judge Mark Jones, to enter a plea of guilty or nolo contendre
to charges of swiping around $413,000 from our school system. Nolo
contendre basically means the charges against the defendant are not
denied but the defendant does not formally admit them either. Both pleas
are guilty pleas, but nolo simply sounds a little nicer. Ether
plea saves Monique a trial by a jury of her peers, and puts the entire
load for determining her fate on Judge Jones.
Monique’s husband, Randy, our former Superintendent of Schools, was
already convicted for helping cover up Monique’s theft. His case is on
appeal.
After his conviction, before he changed lawyers, Randy’s local lawyer, a
former assistant prosecuting State Attorney, was arguing in the local
press that Randy was charged and convicted of helping Monique cover up
crimes for which she had not yet been convicted, so how could Randy be
convicted, if Monique was not yet convicted?
That defense was about the same as two apprehended bank robbers,
one driving the get-away car, the other going into the bank to stick it
up. The get-away driver is tried first and defends on the ground that
the stick-up defendant has not yet been convicted, so the get-away
driver cannot be found guilty.
Horses**t dreamed up by defense lawyers. If, beyond a reasonable
doubt, the jury believes from the evidence that a bank robbery was
committed by the stick-up defendant, and if the jury, beyond a
reasonable doubt, believes the other defendant/accomplice was waiting
outside the bank in the get-away car, then the jury can convict the
accomplice even though the stick-up defendant has not yet been tried and
convicted.
Now before Judge Jones is the stick-up defendant. Now comes the moment
of truth. Will Judge Jones go easy on Monique, perhaps even give her
house arrest for a while, followed by probation and a long-term
restitution payment plan? Probation is what Randy received, even through
he showed no remorse at his sentencing hearing and admitted not that he
had done anything wrong; and then he appealed his conviction. Or will
Judge Jones put Monique in prison? If so, for how long? And under what
terms of eventual release? That’s what we all are waiting to learn
today.
It will be argued by defense counsel that all that’s really necessary
here is to put Monique on house arrest for a while; then on probation,
and for her to pay all of the money back over time like it’s a
mortgage. It will be argued that this is fair and appropriate, because
that’s how other white collar embezzlers have been treated by the
courts.
Excuse me?
Monique did not steal from a developer mogul for whom she worked.
Monique stole from an entire school system and its community. She was
a high official in the school system. She was a role model for the
children. She was entrusted with our children’s welfare. She
was entrusted with the taxpayers’ money. What Monique did, with Randy’s
assistance, tore the fabric of the soul of this community to shreds. The
community lost all faith in the school system, which was exacerbated
by three of the School Board members vacillating on what to do about
Monique after her crime became known. The Board members who did not
vacillate were Steven Pribramsky and John Dick.
The rest ...

[The

candidate who claims he does things because God tells him what to
do. How many times have we read that someone does harm to someone
because God told him to do it?
We have seen his vicious writing attacks on a number
of folks. Because our local weirdo takes no personal responsibility
for what he does (he blames it on the “voices”). Maybe we should
realize he has the potential to do harm because God told him to do
it.

[AA Basher]
AA Advisory #332: The sneering and dismissive tone adopted towards
anyone with reservations about adopting the doctrine elaborated in
the “Big Book” of AA is shown by this quote from “Doctor Bob” Smith:
“If you think you are an atheist, an agnostic, a skeptic, or have
any other form of intellectual pride which keeps you from accepting
what is in this book, I feel sorry for you”.
One has to ask why AA has such a strong anti-intellectual bias. It
can only be because it sees critical and analytical thought as
threatening to its precepts. In other words, AA’s message simply
does not stand up to rational examination; hence the intellect is
treated with scorn and contempt to try to preempt such examination.
Fear of the intellect, as well as hatred and contempt for it, to the
extent that the very word “intellectual” is a term of abuse, are
typical of totalitarian states from Nazi Germany to Maoist China.
They are also well-documented features of totalistic cults.
Sit down, don’t think, take to cotton out of your ears and put it in
your mouth. |

Yesterday,
Glenn Beck
held his Restoring Honor rally on the National Mall at the foot of
the Lincoln Memorial. You can watch Beck’s address
here and
Sarah Palin’s
address
here.
Steve Krakauer
and I both attended and I took a slew pictures with the intention of
Twittering them out. Alas, getting any sort of connection on the Mall
yesterday was a near impossibility so instead I’ve uploaded them here.
All of them.
Thus far, the big question following yesterday’s event appears to be how
many people attended. Answer from the ground: a lot. Interestingly CBS
is
estimating
the crowd at 87,000. NBC quoted the National Parks service which
put it at
300,000. Based solely on my perspective from the ground and the fact I
was in Washington for the Inauguration I would err on the side of NBC
and the National Parks. But the discrepancy begs the question: how do
you lose 200,000 people? It sure looks like CBS along with the rest is
in bed with President Obama and the Dems.

Here
we have Arizona doing nothing more than enforcing laws that are already
on the books that the federal government refuses to enforce. So, because
they've chosen to actually live by the rule of law in Arizona, they've
been slandered, sued, harassed, and now the Obama administration is
smearing that state and our own country internationally.
In other words, our nation's reputation has to overcome the lies and
defamation being spread worldwide by our own president. It will really
be great when we get a President who loves and respects this country in
office again instead of the narcissistic citizen of the world who
currently visits the White House in-between vacations.
Obama's whole family
were recruited by Brzenski and Rockefeller, both of which control a very
large faction of the CIA. Obama was schooled in Islam, as his Mother, to
woo the Arab League of Nations to go along with the world order
envisioned by Bush Sr., Clinton, Brzenski, Cheny and others.
However,
Islam recruited Obama, now a double agent working for the Arab World
Order. Obama, also works for the Chinese World Order, but where does his
heart really lie? Actions my friend, actions indicate with Islam. The
others are just getting played.
Thanks Barack. Record 1 of 6 Americans Receive Government Aid.
Boy, that Trillion dollar stimulus worked wonders, didn’t it? At least
we won’t have to pay for it, our children and grandchildren will. A year
and a half after the failed Obama-Pelosi stimulus plan, a record number
of Americans receive government aid.
As if Democrats didn’t have enough troubles on the ethics
front with two trials coming up in the House. Charlie Rangel and Maxine
Waters have company after the Dallas Morning
News reported that Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson gave scholarships
from a charitable fund to four relatives and the two children of her
aide. The scholarships violated an anti-nepotism rule that keeps
Congressional Black Caucus members from using such charitable funds as
payoffs and featherbedding accounts.
Just to set the record straight, in one fell swoop,
Barack Obama and his Democrat controlled House and Senate, spent more
money on ONE piece of failed stimulus legislation than it cost to
prosecute “Operation: Iraqi Freedom”.
“As President Obama prepares to tie a bow on U.S. combat
operations in Iraq, Congressional Budget Office numbers show that the
total cost of the eight-year war was less than the stimulus bill passed
by the Democratic-led Congress in 2009.

will apparently provide special access for these Muslim Brotherhood
organizations: the organizers pledge to provide direct access and cut
through red tape. Government and Muslim groups will hold an Iftar
dinner (breaking the fast of Ramadan) after the workshop. |

[American
Terrorists] A recent Department of Justice guide for investigators
of criminal and extremist groups lists constitutionalists and
survivalists alongside organizations like Al-Qaeda and the Aryan
Brotherhood. The 120-page, Law Enforcement Sensitive guide
to Investigating Terrorism and Criminal Extremism – Terms and
Concepts describes itself as a glossary designed primarily as a tool for
criminal justice professionals to enhance their understanding of words
relating to extremist terminology, phrases, activities, symbols,
organizations, and selected names that they may encounter while
conducting criminal investigations or prosecutions of members of
extremist organizations.
Constitutionalist, defined by Random
House’s 2010 Dictionary as an adherent or advocate of
constitutionalism or of an existing constitution, is described in the
report as a generic term for members of the patriot movement.
Survivalists
are described in the document as fearing a coming collapse of
civilization and are trying to prepare themselves for this collapse.
Such individuals are said to have typically stockpiled food, water, and
weapons, especially the latter, and instructed themselves on topics
ranging from first aid to childbirth to edible plants. |

The
Conch Rag has come out of retirement and
resumes raking the muck. Wading amidst the muck we've found The
Coconut Telegraph's crusty, conservative curmudgeon, FTR. We proudly
present part one of what's sure to be an award-nominated interview.
Conch Rag:
Now, FTR. May I call you FTR?
FTR: As long as you don't call me late for dinner! Haah heh heh....
CR: Good one. It's nice to see 1920's humor alive and well. Got any
knee-slappers about the Kaiser?
FTR: What?
CR: Never mind. So, what exactly does FTR stand for?
FTR: Don't you read the Coconut Telegraph? Don't you know who I am?
It stands for "From The Right".
CR: Ah, some prevailing theories postulate that it might stand for a
few other things.
FTR: (rolls eyes) Oh, here we go....
CR: Falsehoods Told Regularly, Fact-Twisting Rube, Flawed-Thinking
Rationale, Foolishly Touts Rubbish, Flagrantly Thwarts Reason,
Frequents Tranny Roadhouses...
FTR: Wait. What was that last one...?
CR: Nothing. Never mind. Moving on....
FTR: What the hell is a tranny roadhouse?!
CR: I assume like a regular roadhouse, except with transsexuals, and
Patrick Swayze is kicking ass in his "To Wong Foo" drag queen
outfit.
FTR: That's in poor taste.
CR: What? Too soon? I know Swayze passed not that long ago...
FTR: No! Implicating that I'm a transsexual! CR: I didn't say you
were. I'm just saying that maybe you frequented such establishments
out of curiosity. Or to get fashion tips...
FTR: I thought this interview was to document my thoughts on the
current administration.
CR: Oh sure... because we don't have enough of THAT material on
record.
FTR: People need my opinions! Nay, my FACTS. Who else will stand up
and rail against the Obamaphiles of the world? The Coconut Telegraph
needs a champion, and I am that champion.
CR: Delusionalegomaniacsayswhat?
FTR: What?
CR: Nevermind. So I hear you recently had surgery. Is it true that
they can safely perform a sex change at your age?
FTR: What?! I was in there for hip-replacement surgery! I don't know
where you get your facts from!
CR: Funny. I was thinking the exact same thing about you. |

[Teach

all of the rhetoric that was used when our President was telling kids to
work hard in school and be accountable for themselves. You sure did act

words and encouragement from the President. I understand your rage. |

[From the Right] Yesterday’s non confrontational posting in
praise of Mr. Obama’s reluctant assignment of troops to the Mexico
border was non confrontational, but it was insulting. It was yet another
insult to the intelligence of America. Here’s what the poster left out.
First: You must remember that Mr. Obama acted only after an immense
firestorm of demand from throughout our country. Even then the number
of grudgingly newly assigned troops is less than half the number
requested. It is way too little and way too late. Not a single troop
will be involved in actual intervention. They will only be there in
support roles such as maintenance, computer analysis, construction,
observation of surveillance cameras, etc. Not a single arrest of an
illegal alien will be accomplished by a trooper. Indeed, the
overwhelming majority of illegal’s intercepted will be returned to
Mexico after a niece meal and a calming rest. That ritual is the genesis
of the famous line “We’ll be back.” The border cops call it “catch and
release.” Second: Mr. Obama does not want a secure southern border. It
is as simple as that. He wants a wide open border. Mr. Obama has not
declared war on our enemy, but he has actually declared international
war on the State of Arizona for its attempts to protect its citizens
from illegal aliens. The first salvo was his law suit against Arizona in
Federal Court. It beggars belief, but its just been revealed that
the Obama second salvo singled out Arizona as being a civil rights
violator to the United Nations. My Deer Friends, the man is astonishing,
his hubris is boundless. Mr. Obama is the most powerful man in the
world. He has the resources, the time, and overwhelming national
security reasons to shut the border as tight as a bulls butt in fly
time. The vast majority of Americans favor it. If he wanted it, he would
have it. To Mr. Obama this incredibly dangerous free range border is a
magnificent political asset. He is proving to the Latin component of his
political base that he supports the illegal presence of illegal Latin
immigration in our nation. He is proving to those who are involved in
the drug subculture that he will keep an open pathway for their product.
He is showing those of his base that prey on illegal immigrants for
economic reasons that he will allow them to continue their business
practices. He is telling the Muslim Fundamentalists that are eager to
bring our society to a violent end that he is leaving the back door
open, the lights out, and the dog tied in the cellar. My Deer Friends we
now live in a country wherein our President claims that enforcing our
immigration laws is a fundamental violation of civil rights. That is
insane, that is insulting. I really hope that the Obamafan poster just
did not know about the foregoing. I really hope that he/she will simply
post an "oops" message.
(Part II)
If Democrats had doubts about the voter unrest that will
probably strip them them of their majority in Congress, they needed only
look from the Capitol this weekend to the opposite end of the National
Mall. The spectacle was jaw dropping . Somehow a TV personality who is
widely disrespected and mocked by the political elite has convinced as
many Americans to demonstrate against the existing political power
structure as did Dr. Martin Luther King 47 years ago. Estimates of the
crowd vary widely. Those on the left scurried about trying to convince
themselves that there were only a few misguided lowlifes in attendance.
No one knows the exact numbers. But most agree that the crowd was huge.
Estimates range to excess of 600K people. Who cares the exact numbers,
the crowd was huge. The crowd was nearly devoid of any political signs.
The crowd was an amalgam of all races, ages, and religions. It was a
happy crowd, there were -0- arrests. There was -0- racist rhetoric. That
was a huge disappointment to political elite class. The crowd was
archetypical proud Americana. Glenn Beck is not my favorite broadcaster,
in fact I usually turn him off. I find his style and stridency to be
annoying. But, I do like and respect his ideas. It is blindingly obvious
that there are long tons of Americas who also like his ideas and his
beliefs. This demonstration was a massive renunciation of the
progressive/liberal/democrat drumbeat of hate and envy. The march and
the most recent elections returns have delivered pure and unadulterated
chaos to progressive/leftist/democrats. Rev Al Sharpton sponsored a
competing rally. I guess that Happy Al just forgot to invite white
people. MLK's niece Dr. Avida King, was a prime speaker. at
Beck's rally. She got death threats. The slogans and jargon from
Sharpton and others was full of rancor. Sharpton: “They’ve got the
venue, we’ve got the message.” “The civil rights war is not over, we
want more.” Beck: “We’re here to honor MLK’s life and message” “We’re
here to restore honor to America.” Sharpton: “We’re here to protest Beck
and his followers." And so folks, we were treated to the surreal
spectacle of Sharpton and his followers loudly and stridently denouncing
vast masses of proud Americans who were at the same instant
demonstrating in praise of MLK's memory and principles. It was a
wonderful day for America and a wonderful day to be a proud American. It
is this spirit that looks forward at an America that once was and must
again be. An America that is driven by themes of self reliance, American
exceptionalism, and fundamental goodness that is our history and and our
future. We simply must turn away from this insane
Obama/progressive expedition into a wasteland society that is driven by
entitlement and government intervention into every facet of our lives. |

“Grid
tie virtually eliminates generators, allows Keys Electric to store
our excess/unused solar production that now goes to waste.”
Excess
electricity? I read that the first time you posted it last week and
again now and I still think the same thing: there is no excess
electricity generated by your solar panels. If there was so much
excess, you would not need the wires to come in at all. I have been
told by someone who lives on NNK (and net-researched it) that solar
panels are very inefficient in our hot environment. Solar collectors
are only half as efficient in hot environments than cooler ones. Even
with one of the largest solar panel systems on the island, that person
still needs to spend $$$ on gas for generators for a fridge, some
lights, and one air conditioner.
"Excess
electricity to sell back" is smoke you're trying to blow up my arse. I
don't live on NNK and I have no problem whatsoever with you having
utilities. I say "go ahead! give them power, and water!", but please,
be honest ok? Stop with the smoke and stay away from my kilt. I agree
with getting rid of the generators and the cisterns and let the people
of NNK have utilities like the rest of us, but please, just stop the BS
ok? Just start telling the truth about solar panels, excess
electricity, cistern water quality, costs etc.
If you do, the rest of us might be more interested in
listening and helping. By the way, lest you think I am slapping you
singularly, we all know both sides are equally guilty of massive piles
of BS, and it's really starting to stink. |

will learn her fate on Tuesday morning.
The school board's letter will tell the court the alleged
crimes were damaging to the school system.
"We believe
many citizens in our community responded to this alleged crime very
personally and in such a fashion that it negatively -- and dramatically
-- impacted the trust and confidence of the fiscal integrity of our most
valued public institution -- the education of our children," the letter
states.

There
will be a benefit for the family of Deputy Melissa Powers Sept
12th at the American Legion Post 333 in Key Largo. Deputy Powers died in
a tragic accident in June while on duty. She leaves behind a teenage son
and 5 year old daughter. The benefit will run from 2 pm to 7 pm with
food provided by the Homestead Police and VFW. Live entertainment,
raffles and auctions.
The family was presented with a measly check for $2,000
from Monroe County and that is the extent of Deputy Powers’ death
benefits! They may receive some money from the State, but that could
take up to a year to get. They need our help now. The public is invited.

and to any and all other regulatory and law enforcement agencies having
jurisdiction in this matter.
Whoever did this should be held strictly accountable to
the letter of the law, both on the civil and criminal side. |

The
USS Constitution (Old Ironsides), as a combat
vessel, carried 48,600 gallons of fresh water for her crew of 475
officers and men. This was sufficient to last six months of sustained
operations at sea. She carried no evaporators (fresh water distillers).
However, let it be noted that according to her ship's log:
"On July 27, 1798, the U.S.S. Constitution sailed from Boston with a

Her mission: "To destroy and harass English shipping." Making Jamaica on
6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and 68,300 gallons of rum.
Then she headed for the Azores, arriving there 12 November. She
provisioned with 550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of Portuguese
wine. On 18 November, she set sail for England.
In the ensuing
days she defeated five British men-of-war and captured and scuttled 12
English merchant ships, salvaging only the rum aboard each. By 26
January, her powder and shot were exhausted. Nevertheless, although
unarmed she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland. Her
landing party captured a whisky distillery and transferred 40,000
gallons of single malt Scotch aboard by dawn. Then she headed home.
The U. S. S.
Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February 1799, with no cannon shot,
no food, no powder, no rum, no wine, no whisky, and 38,600 gallons of
water.

[Editing] Faced
with a hundred papers to evaluate, I would read a dozen and take a
break. Then I would read six to eight and take a break. Next, I might
find a paper that was like a sunshine enema. Easy reading.
Grammatically correct. Thesis well developed. I would become renewed,
do laps around my house, assign a grade of "A," but soon after, I would
encounter a paper improperly footnoted, paraphrased from a study I had
read at some previous time and I would need to spend a hour or so just
trying to determine what to do with it.
There are those that are hard to tell if they are an
esoteric, and better than average paper, or pure bunk. Sometimes there
is a fine line there. All but about 10% of college students need to
learn the difference between objective and nominative pronouns. I
recall returning a paper where I had written more in the margins that
the student had written in the entire paper. He said, "Man, you should
teach English." I replied, "I do, and I hope you will be able to
sometime, too." |

“Somostcrane” claims that Sloan has a "propensity
for violence." However, based upon his admission of approaching Sloan
first and employing provocative, harassing, defamatory, malicious,
slanderous, language, it is clear that it is he who has the propensity
for violence, not Sloan. And, the reason he didn't call the Sheriff to
file a complaint is because he knew that it would be him who was
arrested for provoking the incident, not Sloan.
If this bozo had approached me in the same manner I would
have used my taser on him and given him enough volts to put him out of
commission long enough for the Sheriff to haul him to jail where he
belongs. In my opinion, this provocateur should think twice before
harassing and picking fights at public meetings. The next time he might
not be so lucky and escape with his nose still attached to his face. |

[Sloan
could have been…] I think much of the reading public is the
problem, not Sloan. Because of his dream fantasies people seem to forget
that he’s a successful lawyer who defended the poor and continues to
offer free legal advice. He’s an accomplished author publishing numerous
books. He’s a TV personality appearing on the Today Show. He’s a great
public speaker, appearing at many venues and forums in the South. He’s a
philanthropist donating much money to the less fortunate to help protect
their rights. He is totally honorable man, without a trace of prejudice.
He’s one of the few people who truly look to the future and to the
larger scope of things. Most people have a narrow view compared to
Sloan’s vision of society.
The poster who wrote that Sloan “could have been” probably hasn’t
achieved any of the things Sloan has. |

[Sloan]
As for the “Somostcrane” fellow who wrote yesterday that
I had nearly yanked his arm out of the socket at the Hometown! PAC call
to caniddates , that I am a violent person, and I have no remorse about
anything, etc.
Somostcrane was so enraged that I had filed and closed the District 2
Republican primary to Republicans, that I thought maybe he was going to
have a stroke. I thought to myself he surely was a Danny Coll backer,
because there was no way a George Neugent backer would be upset with my
closing the Republican primary.
As Somostcrane and I both were leaving the affair, he gave me another
angry look. When I tried to speak to him, he growled he didn’t want to
hear it and walked on. I reached out and grasped his upper left arm
about like I would a heavy door I was opening, trying to get him to hear
me out. He wrenched his arm away, growled for me to get my hands off it
him, and stormed off.
Now I, too, was riled, because I don’t like hit-and-runs. Trailing close
behind, I said, loud enough for him and others nearby to hear, that I
must be doing something right to have gotten him so riled up. Then, I
stopped walking and turned around and headed back to where it had
started between us.
Several people I knew standing nearby asked what had gotten in him? I
explained and they said not to worry about it. I said, “He has a three
year-old-dick and a three-year-old brain." He was too far away to hear
that, but I wrote about it and maybe he heard about what I wrote. I
would have loved for him to have brought a deputy back to speak with the
people who saw me nearly tear his arm out of the socket. Anger
management, my ass. He was so mad that I had closed the Republcian
primary, that he could hardly breathe.
Next time I saw Somostcrane was at the Hometown PAC forum at the Key
West airport. He was wearing a “Mario” sticker and was sitting right
behind me with other people wearing Mario stickers. I said to him, “I’m
trying my best to help your candidate.” He said something that sort of
sounded like, “Thanks.”
Somostcrane would be real surprised to learn what all I have remorse
over, but he might not believe it. I have remorse over every rough work
assignment I undertake, including what you are reading here today. I
undertake the assignments anyway, because the consequences to me of
disobedience are horrendous. Every time I ran for office, including this
time, was an assignment. Told to file by the Boss, I filed. Simple as
that.
The rest ...

Social
Security cards up until the 1980s expressly
stated the number and card were not to be used for identification
purposes. Since
nearly everyone in the United States now has a number, it became
convenient to use it anyway and the
message, NOT FOR IDENTIFICATION, was removed.
Franklin
Roosevelt introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That
participation in the Program would be completely voluntary. No longer
Voluntary
2.) That the
participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their
annual incomes into the Program. Now 7.65% on the first $90,000
3.) That the
money the participants elected to put into the Program would be
deductible from their income for tax purposes each year. No longer tax
deductible
4.) That the
money the participants put into the independent 'Trust Fund' rather than
into the general operating fund, and therefore, would only be used to
fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other government
program. Under Johnson the money was moved to The General Fund and spent
5.) That the
annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income. Since
Clinton up to 85% of your Social Security can be taxed. |

In Kabul, Afghanistan U.S. and Afghan troops
repelled attackers wearing American uniforms and suicide vests in a pair
of simultaneous assaults before dawn Saturday on NATO bases near the
Pakistani border, including one where seven CIA employees died in a
suicide attack last year.
If you're keeping score at home, yes: donning the enemy's
uniform to gain an advantage in battle is against the Geneva
Conventions. The raids appear part of an insurgent strategy to step up
attacks in widely scattered parts of the country as the U.S. focuses its
resources on the battle around the Taliban's southern birthplace of
Kandahar.
Also on Saturday, nearly 50 female pupils and teachers were rushed to
the hospital after an apparent toxic gas attack at a Kabul high school.
It was the second case of poisoning at a girls' school in the capital
this week. Officials suspect the Taliban, who oppose female education. |

[Electrification of NNK] Just in case there is a
gullible reader who might be taken in by the unabashed champion of
misinformation, none of the pro electric folks are being loaned anything
by whomever he alleges. His contentions are pure baloney. We each
intend to foot the bill commensurately. You, sir or madam, have no
business writing untruths/things you can't substantiate, but apparently,
you know no shame. "...a commissioner was told..." Undocumented red
herring. Let's do another..."some homes were not built right..." The
implication could be that yours is built right. This is a laughable
since all permitted houses are built to code, certainly not to the whim
of the builder, and please note that all houses on NNK were required to
be wired not only to code, but so as to be ready for hook up to grid
electricity. Where are your grounds for complain about houses not being
built right? Nonsense. Next paragraph, "...if those same
benefactors...(this now applies to all of us since there are no
benefactors)..,[our] money could be used for upgrades needed to truly
run green and clean." Where, pray, have you been? Grid tie virtually
eliminates generators, noise pollution, tons of carbon dioxide
pollution, weekly; allows Keys Electric to store our excess/unused solar
production that now goes to waste, and puts an end to finite fossil fuel
consumption for those who hook up. At this point of grid tie, all I
want for Christmas are more pv panels. The more I have, the greener
I'll become, and in addition, what I don't use will be available to Keys
Electric and the rest of Monroe County. Sadly, you will continue to
whimper and make up new allegations that are misleading. You want to be
green and clean? I just told you how to take a big step to become green
and clean, and also become a contributing citizen of the 21st century,
instead of a whiner. Might you want a real quote from a commissioner?
This afternoon, my wife and I, along with lots of friends you should
get to know, went to the fund raiser for the "Dog Park:". Didn't see
you there. Among the folks there, we talked to Commissioner George and
as you might guess, the electricity issue came up. He said, "I have
always wanted what the community wants." That's us, dear naysayer.
Moreover, it is the community choice of all enlightened citizens all
across this land; especially those who understand what Green and Clean
means. What you represent and would have others believe is neither
green nor clean.
The moving finger writes, and having writ moves on, nor
all your pretend sanctimony, or unfounded rumor shall cancel have a
line, nor all your laments wash out a word of it. (Apologies to Omar

remains the same, and is an unacceptable by any county employee. |

[Questioning

that in person: machinations, pseudo solar mantle? Boring…yawn. I'm

The
prescribed burn program was developed out West where there
was years of fire suppression in national parks. These protected
pine forests were vast and frequently had natural fire occur from
lightning which was quickly extinguished for years. This procedure
altered the natural process that these particular pine species were
dependent on for seed dispersion and propagation. Unfortunately,
these practices became the "cookie cutter standard" for all forests
across the board, regardless of their extreme differences and
requirements. Our tiny forest, now existing on just a small part of
Big Pine Key is not a vast wilderness that can handle such huge
amounts burned every year. To even mention the Native American's in
this argument is comical.
Remember,
this was a vast wilderness during that early time, the pine land
stretched all the way to Key West and many miles beyond. Samples of
pine needles and pine cones were found many miles off shore from Key
West far below the silt. Today, all that remains is a small remnant
of that vast wilderness and it is critically threatened by
extinction. To say we have had "fire suppression" here is not a
valid statement unless we have also had lightning suppression. Our
occurrence of natural fire, that is to say from lightning, have only
occurred once or twice in 30 or more years. This natural burn cycle
is not mirrored by the huge, yearly prescribed burns conducted by
USFWS.
Burning
such large percentages of such a small habitat does not allow
anything to recover and isolated species can easily be wiped out to
extinction. If burning must continue for whatever reason they can
justify, then they should be only an acre a year and no more. Cost
put before preservation has sadly outweighed common sense that is so
blindingly obvious. |

[Controlled
Burn] So now we are going to base our USFWS management practices
on what the Indians did in the 1500's, they burned so we should too.
Does that mean we will be required to hunt for our own food now and
will be reintroducing black bear, bobcats, sea lions and have to get
around by canoe? I wonder if the Indians used drip torches and
helicopters.
Imagine their faces if they could see their land now! |
|

|
Regarding
the controlled burn. The poster seemed well informed on the
effects of burns such as this, especially in an area as sensitive as
the Keys. As I recall, the last time FWC and The Refuge were going
to conduct a burn, its sole intent was to provide data for some
graduate student's study. Shortly before that, they performed a
circle burn, which of course trapped and burned to death every
living creature within the circle.
Then there
was the whole feral cat/marsh rabbit debacle a couple of years ago.
When FWC couldn't catch feral cats on Big Pine, they captured and
killed native raccoons; some 43 if I recall correctly. Ironically,
a couple of master's theses focused on the marsh rabbits on Big
Pine, but the researchers were unable to locate any evidence of the
endangered species on Big Pine. Of course, all the initial research
that led to this scientific conclusion of an endangered rabbit was
conducted on Boca Chica Navy base and was chocked full of flaws.
I agree
with the poster. If the FWC isn't going to protect the wildlife
here on Big Pine Key, they would do us a service by going away and
leaving us alone. We've got park services, the Nature Conservancy,
forestry service, etc., etc., to watch the habitat. Paying these
government employees salaries averaging $125,000 each per year
(according to reports yesterday) to kill our wildlife and destroy
our habitat seems ludicrous. |

I don't know if Mr. Sloan is a sexual predator
or not but I don't think the blogger should of put that thought out
there unless he could substantiate it.
If you paid any mind to Sloan throughout the years
you would know that he is a total weirdo and it disgust me because
he is an intelligent person. He could of had a very productive life
and been a great asset to mankind/humanity. However he has chosen to
waste his life by being a perennial aggravator and instigator.
I can tell you first hand though that he does have a propensity for
violence. The evening of the forum at The Boutanical Garden I
experienced that first hand when upon my exit (I had a death in the
family and had to leave before it was over). I had just found out
that Sloan was a last minute entry into the district 2 commission
race so I told him that his antics were getting old and that he was
not funny anymore. As I headed toward the parking lot he assaulted
me from behind by jerking my arm and just about pulling it out of
socket. I warned him not to ever put his hands on me again. Rather
than respond in kind I wanted to summon a deputy and file charges
but my great nephew had just passed away as a result of a tragic
swimmimg accident so I had more urgent matters to tend to at the
time and I was not injured so I let him get away with it. I saw him
at other forums after that and thought maybe he would at least
apologize but the guy apparently has no remorse about anything, as I
am told by others.
I just can't imagine a person of Sloan's caliber being an elected
official. If you think Mario used to have anger management issues
just wait until you experience the wrath of this maniac and see that
crazed look in his eyes. I know he makes many decisions based on
dreams but this instance must of been a spontaneous nightmare. Now
nobody can say that I didn't warn you about rubbing Sloan Bashinsky
the wrong way & don't forget to look over your shoulder if you do.

[Sloan] One of my
bridge partners here spends winters at Ocean Reef. She is a
nice person. Why should she not get police protection?
This has nothing to do with your friend being a nice person, or not
a nice person. It has to be with your friend living in a super
upscale, gated, probably mostly Anglo community that does not let
the public come in there, yet it has a sheriff substation paid for
out of the sheriff budget, which is funded by the county treasury,
which is funded by the public.
If Ocean Reef wants to keep the sheriff substation inside of the
castle walls, or nearby, same result, as Ocean Reef is out at
the end of nowhere and the substation is for Ocean Reef, they need
to let the public come in there. Or they don’t have the substation
and pick up the phone and call 911 just like everybody else on Key
Largo has do do.
Ocean Reef provides its own fire protection, emergency services,
wastewater treatment, etc., and has its own internal security force
separate from the sheriff substation. I doubt your friend has
noticeable security problems way out the end of nowhere that the
Ocean Reef security force cannot take care of.
I felt all along that the construction of Card Sound Bridge was
instigated by Ocean Reef to save about fifteen minutes driving time
for Ocean Reef owners, guest and employees travelling to Ocean Reef
from the mainland and back to the mainland from Ocean Reef.
In the early 1980s, I think it was, a federal judge fined
Ocean Reef $60,000 a day until it stopped dumping its raw sewerage
into the Atlantic Ocean. It had been going on a while before the
judge got involved.
Ocean Reef was where my family stayed in March 1956, for a week. A
very different place then. Old, modest wooden cottages, a
similar-design dining room/meeting hall, a small
marina, a bare-bones landing strip, an 18 hole golf course, or maybe
just 9 holes. Some nice yachts moored in the creek running into
the marina. Maybe two flats guides worked out of there and maybe two
offshore boats. No gate. No walls. Open to the public. Reasonable
rates for that time and location. No condos. Maybe a few private
homes.
That’s when and where I fell in love with the Keys and flats
fishing, age 14.
I only was in Ocean Reef proper that one week in March 1956, and I
can’t say I look forward to going back in there ever again, but
maybe I need to do it, just to see what it’s like for me. They
invited me to a candidate forum there in 2006, and I couldn’t bring
myself to go. I didn’t get invited up there when I ran for the
county commission in 2008. I don’t remember if they had a forum
there that year. I don’t know if they are having one there this
year.

[Teach your children well] Please tell us what
exactly the downside to Americas President giving kids a message of hard
work and independence is?What exactly did the president say that
reminded you of the North Korean Dictator as he was called? Please be
specific.
I dont believe that I omitted anything. The President gave
a message of hard work and the right as usual turned into something it
wasnt.Sometimes a speech to kids is just that.Youre looking for a secret
agenda that wasnt there.Paranoia has become the mindset of the right in
this country and its making them crazier every day.
I agree with your comment that omissions is a form of
deceit but I still read the rightwing posts anyhow I just expect the
large number of them to be partial truths. |

[Islam]
Why are you so easily led?, once one begins to face reality, he begins
to wander how could he ever have been so naive to believe as he once
did, case in point! While their may be many peaceful Muslims, Islam is
not a religion of peace the building of the Mosque will not be to bring
us all together, quite the contrary it will be a victory for Islam,
literally a slap in our face. If you know the history before and after
the birth of Islam you will see that that is the case. Do not be taken

[FTR] My Deer Friends, thank you for your kind
words. The surgery was on Tuesday, I was in PT and walking on Wednesday
and Thursday, and returned to the Rock on Friday. It’s good to be home,
it’s not so good to be shaky, a consequence of pain meds. Nor is it good
to see the postings smeared with Obamacare donkey dung go unchallenged.
Last Wednesday an Obafan told us that his Mother In Law was a candidate
for hip replacement surgery. Then he crowed how lucky she was to be
under Obamacare because private insurers denied coverage at an
inordinately high rate. His posting didn’t say it, but it strongly
implied that Lucille (His beloved MIL) had been denied a hip replace
operation by three nasty insurance companies. His message is full of
noxious donkey donkey dung. First. According to the American Medical
Association’s National Health Insurer Report Card for 2008, the
government’s health plan, Medicare, denied medical claims at nearly
double the average for private insurers: Medicare denied 6.85% of
claims. The highest private insurance denier was Aetna at 6.8%, followed
by Anthem Blue Cross @ 3.44, with an average denial rate of medical
claims by private insurers of 3.88%.
My Deer
friends, that is another embarrassing, but, undeniable truth. Second: I
had the surgery three weeks to the day of my diagnosis. The delay was a
function of having a round of tests in Ft. Lauderdale. If we still lived
in Lauderdale, I would have been in surgery within the week. If Lucille
or I had been residents of Canada, Britain, of any other nation that
suffers its citizens to endure socialized medicine the wait the surgery
could have been a half a year or longer. Please, for your own good,
never forget that the Obmacare sales staff have promised us that they
will improve health care delivery while they cut the cost of health
delivery. They promise, Scouts Honor, that they will do that BY slashing
the costs of Medicare. My Deer Friends, this crowd of occupiers of
power, hold you and yours in utter contempt. They are firmly convinced
that you will swallow that argument. Their idea is not just a simple
impossibility, it is an absurdity. My most recent experience with the
health care industry (Medicare) was a universally satisfying experience.
Virtually every health care employee was courteous, professional, and
proud of their job. It boils down to the fact that anyone seeking
Medicare services is twice as likely to be denied those services than if
they were privately insured. I know that the Obafan is getting his
tighty whities in a big wad right now, so he really should not look it
up in the 2008/09 National Health Insurer Report card done by the AMA.
It’s good to be back. Don’t forget for a second, that our existing
health care industry is a for profit enterprise. If the enterprise does
crappy work, it should and will fail. Medicare hitchhikes on the back of
the private healthcare industry. The only, only reason that Medicare
provides quality health care is because they buy it from private
enterprise. When private enterprise is ripped from the picture, pray.
(Part II) It's
just one hypocrisy after another from Barack Obama. The president sold
the taxpayer bailout of General Motors by telling us that it was needed
to save jobs. Obviously he didn't mean American jobs because Government
Motors has decided to spend half a billion, taxpayer dollars, to build a
brand new GM plant in Mexico. I think that plant will be one that will
make the new GM $41K dollar electric tiny wee car. That miracle of
engineering will have a range of 40 miles on battery. The good thing
about it is that the car will have a $ Seven Thousand Five hundred
Dollar enticement to buy, a rebate, a kick back. It will be paid with
your tax dollars. It’s a beautiful thing, American dollars and jobs
fleeing to Mexico by a company that is 60% owned by American taxpayers.
We’re sending jobs enough to fill a factory with workers to a country
that refuses to help us secure our borders. A country that does
everything that it can to pee on our shoes. The Omabam Miracle car is
such a rip off that even GM's flacs tell us that it will not sell unless
the putative buyers are given a $7500.00 dollare kick back. That kick
back, euphemistically called a rebate, will be all American tax dollars.
That’s no rebate, that’s a masterbate. |

[NO NAME ELECTRIC] Once again, dear poster, you
have wasted my time with your redundant charges that simply are not
true. You apparently are proud of your Internet discovery that a guy in
Northern California has availed himself of a nearby stream to produce a
mini hydro electric "plant" that produces about the same amount of
electricity as rubbing two dry Boy Scouts together. It is a worthless
and irrelevant read. Shame on you for posting it twice when once was
too many. Neither I, nor anyone I know, bought our property as a money
making investment. You again know not of what you speak, yet you can't
resist making up your pitch as you go along. As for your also redundant
questioning of the names of the 70% of us who want electricity...and
water for lawful and humane reasons, let me suggest that you do your own
homework. I, nor any of us, have any call to give you anything. Would
Macy's tell Gimbels? Your numbers are dwindling, and your message is
seen by most as tripe. You would be wise to come on board with us, or
find yourself listening to the quiet hum of your neighbor's a/c while
you fret about the long periods of overcast when your meager arrays
can't produce enough electricity to flush your toilet and run your
television during a hurricane. Isn't it true that at least two of your
fellows have their house listed for sale? I've heard that another is
leaving the island for health reasons. Thus, the figures are 13 of you
folks ...minus 3, and, of course, there are others of that tally who
spend less time on the island that you do in Winn Dixie in a month. If
you would take time to do your homework, you would know more about solar
than the pseudo solar mantle you wear around your shoulders. Here is a
way for you to answer your own question. I would hope you know who your
crying in the wilderness compatriots are. Count that number as 13 or
10, though I suspect it is fewer.. There are 43 homeowners on the
island. Take your choice...Divide your numbers by 43, or Divide 30 by
43. In other words, you freely slander good folks you sadly don't know
with false machinations, and mumbo jumbo. You are literally not a part
of this century, apparently, you don't know green from blue and have
become more and more irrelevant when you speak, ad nauseum.
To the last poster--Please be specific when you suggest that "the island
is losing." Ghad, how can you come to that conclusion? To the
contrary. Let me count the ways. Enough. We have. |
|
[No Name Deed restriction?] Yesterday's poster did
not tell the truth. I live on No Name and we do not have any
restrictions on our warranty deed or title policy. We paid a slightly
higher price for our home without electricity as homes with electricity
on other island. We were told the higher price was due to more
privacy. Yes, Mr. Glebman, the homeowners on No Name Key pay the same
property tax millage rate as other property owners in Monroe County but
have been denied the same services. Fair? I think not. Many
pro-utility folks were there in the late 60's and early 70's - long
before the solar few arrived in early 90's and then changed the rules
and tried to highjack the island because they, the minority, had a
fantasy of making No Name a solar island. Repeating lies does make
something true and the solar group ended up making No Name an island of
pollution. Folks just don't pay a million dollars for a house and then
live like refugees in America. The tree-huggers should move and buy
their own island if they want a solar community. Instead the minority
solar group convinced the county to deny utilities to the residents,
after the development was done, thereby decreasing the property value so
the county could buy property for pennies on the dollar. Justice has
been delayed, but justice will not be denied any longer. |

[Deed
Restrictions] I`ll be happy to show you mine if you show me yours.
I live in Dolphin Harbour , lot 14, No Name Key. My deed to this
property was recorded in October 1988. I am not a newcomer to No Name
Key but certainly not one of the longest term residents either. I am in
a group of people that were the last to build their own homes on No
Name.
Here in brief form are the items listed on the Deed
Restrictions for Bahia Shores Subdivision. ( I will be happy to share a
copy of these with any interested parties just as I have shared a copy
of them with the entire Board of County Commissioners )
1. No lot shall be used except for residential purposes , no boat may be
used for residential purposes. No garages shall be occupied, no house
trailer, tent, shack or other temporary housing may be constructed or
erected in Bahia Shores. Etc.
2. This section has to do with setbacks and is rather tedious -- but
again I will be happy to share with the public.
3. Sewage must be disposed of by either septic tanks, or a central
sewage disposal plant. Any of the systems must be located , designed
and constructed in accordance with the requirements , standards and
recommendations of the Florida Public Health Authority.
4. No animals other than household pets may be kept.
5. No business or other commercial purpose whatsoever.
6. No unlawful use shall be made of the property.
7. All dockage constructed upon the residential lots must not extend
further than 1 foot into the channel.
8. The said land shall be kept clear of brush and lobster traps.
9. No signs of any kind except for one professional sign of not more
than one square foot.
10. No oil drilling oil refining quarrying or mining operations.
11. No lots shall be used or maintained as a dumping ground.
12. No vehicles allowed except with current license.
13. 14. and 15 all have to do with the covenants ( deed restrictions
) life time and what it takes to change any of them
As you can see from the above only one deed restriction
deals with infrastructure of any type and that is septic tanks and
sewers. There is no deed restriction against electricity. There is
more than one subdivision on No Name Key. The above information is true
for Bahia Shores subdivision but I doubt that the poster can produce
deed restrictions for any property on No Name Key or anywhere in the
Florida Keys that prohibit grid electricity to residents. |
|
Friday’s No Name Key post spoke of the 70% that
were willing to pay in excess of $20,000 per household for the option of
electrification and grid-tying their homes. What the post didn’t
mention is that most of that money is being loaned to the 70% is by a
couple of homeowners, one of which told a County Commissioner that he
“would not take a loss on his home”.
Truth is, some homes on No Name Key were just not built
right. It was “one box fits all” in some areas, sometimes because the
builder expected electricity, sometimes because they just didn’t do
their homework. Now new owners have moved into those homes, expecting
that they could indeed live off grid. Their idealism has faded as they
realized the cost of the upgrades needed to get off the generators.
If those same kind benefactors would just lend their
money to the 70% for the upgrades needed to truly run green and clean,
the newcomers would regain their original dream of being off grid and
lose the feeling that they are “making do” in what is feeling more and
more like a bad investment. But that money is only available for loan
if the island gets electrification, because of these few individuals
want to make sure that their investments trump all other needs. |
|
[Deed restrictions: NOT] Will the lies about No
Name Key every stop? There are NO deed restrictions on No Name Key.
Just check the property records. Not that the leader of the minority
solar group did not try to get that pushed over on the county
commissioners and the Realtors, but the Realtors were smarter than the
commissioners and quashed that illegal idea immediately. No Name Key
was never developed or designated a solar community! It was only after
the solar leader joined in the lawsuit to stop electricity that she
proposed to the Board a long list of her demands that would y end this
argument "once and for all." You can see the whole story in the
county's public records from her writings to all of the commissioners
and her written statements submitted for the record in her public
comments to the board. She did convince the commissioners to put up
a sign at the foot of No Name Bridge that falsely stated that No Name
Key was a coastal barrier resource island. Twenty-nine homes including
the solar leader and my home are not, and never have been, in the
coastal barrier resource unit. Some homes on the east-end are in a
coastal barrier island unit and the solar leader tried to explain "in
writing" how she had done that for her solar group and the key deer
protection alliance. I am now convinced that reading public documents
can be most enlightening and most folks have caught on to her evil
games. Deed restrictions and other statements made about No Name Key
for the past twenty years about the island being a solar community are
only fantasies in a small mind. Choice, freedom, and laws created for
the public good are still the American way. |

[Pro-Utilities]
You really have to admire the person that keeps attacking
the "pro-utility" people- persistence is a great quality to have, but he
would have much more credibility if he knew what he was talking about.
The greenie hippy chick uses her hydro- micro turbine to harness the
energy from a flowing creek- the key word here is flowing. Last
time I visited No Name there were no creeks or rivers around. There is
water passing through the canals, but if you try to do anything with
that the environmentalists will hang you out to dry-no pun intended. And
another fact that the pro-utility denier may not know is that many
utilities use the same principle to generate power- it is called
hydro-power. It is one of the cheapest and cleanest sources of large
scale power available- And the best part about it, guess who is against
these plants? (wait for it).. the environmentalists! You gotta love 'em.
I would venture to say that with a few letters from concerned
citizens sent to certain governmental agencies, we could make the hippy
chick cease and desist with her mini- micro- hydro turbine.

The Key West Citizen once again
proved what a gutter newspaper they are and that they have very
little knowledge of law or ethics.
In an article yesterday they
reported on a civil action filed against them. This is probably
the most significant U.S. libel case in the past 20 years. They
ignored all the important points in the 32 counts and 70 pages
of the civil action, plus exhibits that prove everything alleged
and simply repeated the very defamation they are being sued for.
Of course they didn't mention the massive scandal that Kohl and
staff were involved in or their part in it.
Here is what really happened and it
is a totally different story than what they reported. First,
this goes back almost two years to a letter the Citizen printed
by Mark Kohl right before the election. The problem with the
letter is that it was a personal attack on a private individual,
Dan Schramm, whose name he repeated eight times, just so nobody
would miss it. He was not running for public office and had no
position in any campaign, nor was Schramm the subject of any
investigation or news story in the Citizen. But even if he had
been, the letter was still illegal and pure defamation.
Kohl did not address the issues in
Schramm's letter, he instead engaged in a personal attack on
Schramm with the stated purpose of destroying his reputation.
Based on reader comments he did a pretty good job of it. The
number one libel rule for newspapers is never print personal
attacks against private individuals. There is lots of federal
and state case law backing this up.
Now, where do you think Kohl got 26
to 38 year old criminal history information? It certainly was
not public record like he stated. Schramm's letter was printed
on Oct. 13, 2008 and Kohl wrote his letter on Oct. 14 and sent
it to the Citizen that day, although it was not printed until
Oct. 19, on a Sunday with the maximum circulation.
Where do you think Kohl got all that
information? At 10:38 a.m. on Oct. 14, he had investigator
Andrew Kempel run Schramm through NCIC, the National Crime
Information Database from a terminal in his office. NCIC can
ONLY be used for legitimate law enforcement purposes and what
Kohl did is a federal felony crime. He then wrote the letter in
the office on state time using state resources, while earning
over $12,000 a month plus benefits. He then had his state paid
public information officer send it to the Citizen as it it was
an official release using the seal of the State of Florida.
These are all campaign activities, a couple more state criminal
offenses.
The biggest problem is that NCIC is
not always correct. Schramm has NEVER been arrested for or
convicted of any criminal offense called lewd and lacivious
conduct and has never been arrested or convicted of any crime
involving children or any sexual offense whatsoever. Kohl did
NOT use public record, he relied on NCIC and had to commit
criminal acts to do it. NCIC information can not be revealed
under ANY circumstances except to legitimate law enforcement
agenices. FBI policy prohibits even revealing the existence of
an NCIC record.
In a nutshell, Dan Schramm exercised
his First Amendment Constitutional Rights to criticize an
official running for public office. Kohl, using the power of his
office, then dug up very old criminal information from the NCIC
database which was not correct and used it to attack the
reputation and credibility of a private person.
How would YOU like it if you wrote
something about an elected official and that elected official
used government resources on government time to personally
attack you and then didn't even get it right. Do you folks have
any idea of the chill this places on free expression. You
probably don't know that law enforcement officers have been
charged and convicted for this.
And the real kicker? Kohl's illegal
NCIC search is proven in the complaint by FDLE transaction logs
and he was so stupid, he left his illegal letter on state
computers. You don't have to take Schramm's word for it, the
evidence exists now and is included with the filed complaint.
I called Kohl a crook before and he
has certainly proved me correct. Can you imagine, the top law
enforcement officer of Monroe County was willing to commit state
and federal criminal offenses to destroy a citizen critic who
wrote a letter to the newspaper? He did it as if it was a matter
of normal operating procedure; do you have any idea how scary
and crazy that is?

I threw my hat in the ring for the race for the Mayor of the
village of Domsod. It is a village of 6000 souls, and there are
problems that previous mayors just ignored. under those
circumstances those problems will not go away.
I am trying, but at the same time are being optimistic. I am not
known well in the village now days.
Fifty years ago everyone knew me as that Baka Kid. A complete
stranger could come to the village and and anyone could tell
him/her, where we kived. This is my biggest problem. I think
that I have a good platform, It goes like this, translated into
Enlish
.
Respected Citizens of Dömsoöd, my Friends!
In the last decade very little development taken place in
this village, now we are on the doorstep of another
election.
I would like to be your new Mayor. I grew up here as a boy,
although I was born in Bugapest, I moved here with my
parents and younger brother in 1948.
My father ran a Pub here, and was the driver on the bus that
went to meet the train twice a day.
Most of my age group know by now that I am Imre Baka. I will
be 67 years old in September.
For the past ten years I lived at 79, Kossuth L. Street.
Before that I lived in the United States for forty years,
that is where I learned how a Democracy suppose to work. I
want to serve this village, I have many fond memories of
Dömsöd.
I have leadership skills, for many years I was the operator
of my own business, and I have a High School diploma.
I served for four years in the American Army, and was
Honourably Discharged. In the late '70's I fought against
the communists
in Rhodesia.
Some people are of the opinion that I am a racist. Nothing
can be further from the truth. "Help yourself, and God will
look with
favor on you" That is an old Hungarian proverb. I have no
time or sympathy for those, who for year after year are
waiting for a handout, Yet they are strong and healthy, but
have an even stronger aversion for work. Under my
administration, those who are not willing to do municipal
work, will not get any security payments. The money's
earmarked for security payments come from the sweat and toil
of hard working people, by what right these parasites demand
a free ride.
My first duty as your Mayor will be to rid this village of
the thieves and robbers. I will find away, but if I must,
with fire and steel run them out of the village. Everyone
worked hard for what they have, we have no need of these
predators.
The office of Mayor is not for sale, forces bigger than I
may kill me, but they will never buy me.
Highly respected citizens, I could promise all kind of
things that are beyond me, but I am hot like that. My word
is my bond.
Please think hard about who you will vote for, and if you
think I can do the job, I thank you for the privilege and
your trust.
I will serve the village of Dömsöd with honesty and
integrity.
That is about it, now I have to make up some more handbills
I will tell you the next time about the election. I have to
go now!
Best regards, take care. The Hungarian.

What was Ocean Reef thinking in primary?
I was looking at the election results
from Tuesday's primary election, specifically the race between
commissioner Mario Di Gennnaro and candidate David Rice. Of the
33 precincts in Monroe County the voting results in 32 of those
precincts reflected the fact that the citizens had rejected
Mario by a large margin. Apparently Ocean Reef Club (precinct
33) did not share the sentiments of the rest of Monroe County
citizens. Ocean Reefers voted 82.26% in favor of Mario. Looking
at the figures I doubt that these voters ( Ocean Reef) used
their own brains and intuitions to formulate their choice of
candidates or perhaps it was the Monroe county citizens outside
of Ocean Reef who were badly misinformed, however, I believe,
that, If the Ocean Reefers were involved in what has been going
on in Monroe County they would have been a little more
conflicted about Mario instead of voting en masse in his favor.
I am concerned that a gated community with this many votes,
containing intelligent and caring people, has behaved like mice
following a pied piper. I am appalled that a group of people
such as this could allow their vote to be manipulated to this
degree.
Ron Miller
Key Largo
When I called Ron yesterday to talk about something else, he told me
about his letter to the editor. I said I had heard Ocean Reef
historically votes for the incumbent, and he said that was true.
Given how the rest of the county precincts voted, I say Ron hit the
nail squarely on the head. So squarely that I'm beginning to wonder
if Ocean Reef should be stripped of all privileges the county
government offers. Starting with closing the sheriff substation that
lies behind the gate to the castle, through which the peasants of
this county cannot pass unless we have been invited in by an Ocean
Reef member. I say let Ocean Reef provide its own police protection.
It's own fire protection. It's own everything. Let it become a
separate state altogether. Meanwhile, let not our county
commissioners set foot there ever again, for any reason. If
the Ruler of Ocean Reef wants to see our county commissioners, let
the Despot make an appointment with our commissioners to come into
their office and talk, like everybody else has to do. Meaning, no
more private dinners for county commissioners at Ocean Reef.
The rest ...

| [FKSPCA area of coverage] - FYI, even though they cover Key West,
the island is only half the size of Marathon which was covered by SUFA.
As well, SUFA covered several more larger islands including Big Pine Key
and the Torches. Sorry, but the FKSPCA was overpaid for the area they
covered when compared to what SUFA was being paid to run two shelters
and cover much more territory. |

If the picture of the boy getting his arm crushed had been

hustling money from onlookers by staging a common street act, one in

| First Date?
video |
| Today dozens of vultures circled over
the prescribed burn disaster seeking out the many dead animals our
refuge killed. It makes me sick to see such enormous areas of our poor
habitat burned to a crisp, how can they keep justifying this horrible
outdated damaging practice?
We've had so much lightning this year and in many past years but
maybe one wildfire in 30 years, shouldn't that tell them something?
Where do they come up with the term "fire dependent" they may as well
say the Pine Rockland is refuge dependent which is just as ridiculous.
Our pines do not posses serotinous cones such as western species like
the Monterey Pine that require heat to open.
As for the reasoning that prescribed burning clears the understory
for young pine seedlings to grow, well, that may sound good in theory
but it's not exactly the reality. What we are ending up with is a broken
habitat consisting of pines that are all within the same age range, lots
of palms and a general lack of diversity. Our herbaceous understory
plants are so critical to the survival of several endangered species of
butterflies as well as important food for birds and other wildlife and
they are being burned out of the Pineland by our refuge. Trying to
manage a refuge by reducing the diversity to what someone's "ideal" is
makes no sense, a Keys Pine Rockland is more then Pine and Palms people.
As for clearing the understory the deer do a fine job of that.
Oh and there's that famous idea that burning helps promote low growth
so the deer can feed, FEED? Like we need the deer to eat more, like we
need more deer. Don't get me wrong I truly love our deer but this
habitat can't continue to support the out of balance, overabundance of
deer we presently possess and did you know they eat young pines? Yes,
deer eat pines, so what was it we were burning for again?
So what reasoning is left? The ash supplements the soil? I love that
one especially, hello, Pine ROCKLAND have you tried to dig a hole in the
pineland lately? No dirt, ROCK!
It is never considered how much pollution is put into the air across
the nation from prescribed burning as well as toxic smoke from trees
such as Poisonwood.
We could solve a lot of problems in one fell swoop including the
national deficit. It's very simple, send ALL the lazy, useless,
wasteful, overpaid USFWS employees packing, we will have the deficit
paid off in less then a year without this severed artery gushing out
your tax dollars. Yes, keep the refuge land designated as "Refuge" but
now it truly will be a refuge now that the so called management is all
gone! I vote we fire the refuge. |

"I'd love to know where you get your facts about the kill and adoption
rate at FKSPCA."
The figures were obtained from Monroe County from the monthly/annual
reports submitted by the three contractors. The 2008 numbers for all
three shelters are as follows:
Key Largo Key
West SUFA
Total euthanized 499 309
60
Euthanization rate (overall) 63.2% 36.4% 14.1%
(dogs) 59.4% 20.8%
5.2%
(cats) 63.0% 41.3%
18.2%
Sorry, I can't find the adoption rate data right now, but I'm confident
my memory serves me accurately that SUFA has the highest rate of the
three shelters
SUFA euthanized only animals that had terminal or contagious diseases or
(as the law requires) animals that were dangerous.
You must have missed the SPCA director's letter in the Keynoter
the other day justifying their euthanization policy. She indicated that
the only animals that are killed are those meeting the SUFA criteria
PLUS THOSE THAT ARE "UNADOPTABLE". That seems like a pretty nebulous
standard to me, and the bottom line is that under guidelines such as
that, perfectly healthy, non-dangerous animals will be killed as a
matter of policy. The statistics show that animals coming through the
door of the FKSPCA have a better than one-third chance of being killed.
We won't even talk about the slaughterhouse that exists in the Upper
Keys. |

where did you get the idea that the Indians didn't set fires in the
woods? they regularly set fires to drive game into ambush and to
clear land for planting and grazing. one place that comes to my mind
is a well known blueberry picking area called the Baraga Plains in
Michigan. for century's the Ojibwa used to burn it off for hunting.
now what's left of the soil is very sandy and only can support a
scrubby pine forest and lots of wild blueberries and lots of game
and non game animals. lots of other Indian tribes also used fire.
even down here in the Keys.
fire is a natural part of nature. and the whole ecosystem including
the small animals that you think got BBQ ed has evolved around it.
when the woods haven't burned often enough, the fuel (dead wood &
leaves) make the next fire burn hot enough to kill all the trees. by
burning it off on a prescribed cycle, the fire just burns off the
undergrowth and does little damage. imagine if they never burned
off all that acreage and it just accumulated palm fronds and brush.
sooner or later a fire will come along (lightning, arson, runaway
camp fire etc.) and there would be no way to stop it. think about
Calif. where lots of people lose their homes to fire every year.
that could happen here.
I have no connection with the USFWS. their burning these pinelands
is a good and necessary thing. one of the few things I agree with
them on

OIL SPILL |

After nearly two months of work to translocate sea turtle nests on
Florida’s Northwest coast and Alabama’s coast, the unprecedented
operation was suspended in mid-August as surveys found healthy,

type of seaweed is the main habitat for hatchlings.

Today NOAA reopened 4,281 square miles of Gulf waters off western
Louisiana to commercial and recreational fishing. The reopening was
announced after consultation with FDA and under a re-opening
protocol agreed to by NOAA, the FDA, and the Gulf states. On
July 18, NOAA data showed no oil in the area. Light sheen was
observed on July 29, but none since. Trajectory models show the area
is at a low risk for future exposure to oil, and fish caught in the
area and tested by NOAA experts have shown no signs of
contamination.

NATIONAL POLITICS |

Ugg!! I remember well the controversy when Obama spoke to a group of
young students, as you obviously do to, the situation was not quite a
simple as you portrayed it, I will not say you were lying, but please
remember when telling a tale ommission is a form of spreading
falsehoods, I can't help but believe you remember the circumstances
well, doesn't mean that you don't have a argument , but does mean you
chose not to reveal the downside of the tale, and the point the other
faction was attempting to make at the time. If you had done so, it
would have put the topic in an entirely different perspective. Remember
half truths do as much harm if not more so than outright lies. |

Maybe I'm naive but I don't find the
Mosque issue in NYC 3 blocks from
ground zero to be the huge deal FOX
news makes it out to be.Mainly for a
few reasons.1- there is already a
Muslim worshiping area there and has
been. 2 - theres a Mosque already
built in the Pentagon itself the
very heart of Americas military and
it also was a ground zero spot on
9-11.3 - Theres quite a few families
that lost mothers, fathers and kids
on 9-11 and they believe that if
we prevent it from being built build
we are backing away from America
being the home of religious freedoms
many have died for.And those people
that lost relatives on 9-11 have
every right to have their voice
heard also.We are stronger then
that.
I also don't think they will be able
to secure the funding. There is one
bit of irony. The person that has
donated hundreds of thousands of
dollars to having the Mosque built
is a Saudi Arabian that holds the
second most stock in the FOX
network. FOX waves the flag but the
CEO of FOX is Australian I believe
and the second largest share holder
is Saudi Arabian.Drumming up
controversy can be very
profitable.Wonder why Bill O'Reilly
has not mentioned that?Seems hes no
better then the media he hates. As
usual no insults were used in this
post.UGG.

Per snopes.com,which investigates such things, the
pictures of the Muslim young boy with his arm about to be run over by a

performer in Iran. It is a trick. The boy has had his arm run over
repeatedly and has never suffered any damage. He fakes the pained look
on his face. If this was real punishment, his right arm would

This move will almost certainly intensify D.S.A.'s use of SEIU as a

by Medina's own admission, to bring 8 million more Latino voters
to the Democratic Party.
The radicals, racists
and Marxists can’t stand the fact that patriotic Americans are holding a
rally at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday August 28, the
anniversary of Martin Luther

These radicals, race-baiters and socialists detest
the fact that ordinary Americans are rejecting the Pelosi-Obama

leftist big government rally just blocks from the Glenn Beck
Restoring

Absurd as it may sound, the most immediate threat to our
constitutional liberties is not the adolescent Marxist in the
White House or our soon to be lame duck left-wing Congress, but
the Environmental Protection Agency.
The Supreme Court's
insane ruling that the EPA has authority to
regulate CO2 emissions theoretically gives it control over
literally all human activity, including breathing.
Not even our constitutional right to bear arms escapes the reach
of the unelected, unaccountable environazis of our horrifically
metastasizing government's
most malignant agency.
The U.S. Supreme Court says Americans have an individual right
to keep and bear arms. The EPA says the bullets for those guns
may be banned as an environmental hazard.

NO NAME ELECTRIC |
Oh, boy, here come the same "pro-utility" folks spewing their rants
again, about how they want to bring electricity to NNK so it will be
greener. I say BS! If you were doing it correctly, you wouldn't be
complaining about loud, smelly generators and lead-acid batteries. One
example: http://bluelivingideas.com/topics/water-technology/living-off-grid-micro-hydro-alternative-energy-system/
Obviously, many of you bought there, because you saw a
"diamond in the rough" and thought you could increase your
property values. According to information on
www.nonamekey.org: "In 1967, a modern, half-mile-long
concrete bridge replaced the old wooden one, bringing
development to the 20 percent of the island not yet
purchased by the federal government for the newly created
wildlife refuge. Local historian Jerry Wilkinson wrote that
some folks were attracted to the island by its absence of
public utilities, while others came with the expectation
that it was just a matter of time before the juice would
arrive. Only
two Conch homes existed on the island when 'B. and R. E.'
purchased eight acres in
1969 and got one of the last county permits to
dredge a canal to make 32 waterfront lots."
Yep, sounds like speculators to me.
So what if Jennifer Lance used a picture of
the No Name Pub sign for her article. Maybe
she just picked a photo that kinda showed
the "ruralness" of the area...she didn't
claim it was on No Name. Geesh, you people
will try to pick apart anything, won't ya?
I'm still waiting for a response from you,
asking to please give us the names of the
so-called 70% majority that want utilities.
I would love to do some research to see
when each of you purchased your home, for
what price, and who lives there part-time,
full-time, or just owns land.
And you still claim that you will pay for
the utilities out of your own pockets. Yet,
after you "persuaded" the FKAA board (3 of
the 5) to eliminate the rule, which
protected a lot of environmentally sensitive
lands throughout the Keys, so they could
possibly bring water to NNK, one of you was
quoted in the newspapers that several of you
were looking into obtaining grant money to
pay for the water. Grant money comes from
the taxpayers, so "we" would in fact be
paying for "your" utilities.
The poster yesterday was right to
describe you as "like coiled snakes".
|
|
NNK-"my realtor told me when I bought the
property that utilities were only a few years away." It is just
convenient for supporters of the grid to be naive to the fact that the
deed restrictions have been in place. I hope realize when they say "were
gonna win this thing" it is Island that is losing. |

[SUFA
Scandal] Sounds like someone has a problem with the FKSPCA. This is
the 2nd post I've read that someone doubts the work they do there for
the amount of money they receive. Are you considering they area of
coverage inside of Key West also in that 16 measly miles?
Higher kill rate?? Lower adoption rate?? Are you sure??
Funny, I've been hearing for years that SUFA advertised being a no kill
shelter but they did put animals down, for what reason I do not know. A
no kill shelter is just that, NO KILL, no reason acceptable! I do know
that FKSPCA only puts animals down that are in pain due to health
conditions or aggressive animals. Have you been by a shelter
recently...ever?? Or maybe you're one of the people they said no to when
you wanted to adopt. I understand what a slap in the face that must feel
like but they are working at placing all the animals in their forever
home not another temporary one.
I know people that lose sleep over the decisions that
have to be made everyday when they work in a shelter anywhere! Why don't
you put yourself in their shoes, see what you'd work for per hour in a
situation like that! Also, I do believe the county has a cap on what a
shelter person can earn.
I'd love to know where you get your facts about the kill
and adoption rate at FKSPCA. While you're at it get SUFA's numbers
and compare them or use any shelter in this country with comparable
numbers of animals !!!! |

[Rape] August 24, 2010 Man arrested for raping two
young girls
A Key Largo man was arrested Monday, charged with
repeatedly raping and sexually abusing two young girls.
34 year old Hector Hernandez is accused of abusing the
girls repeatedly when they stayed alone with him in Key Largo. The girls
are 11 and 15 years old now, but the alleged abuse took place when the
younger one was between 6 and 7 years old, and when the older one was 7
and 8 years old. The victims told their mother about the sexual abuse in
April of this year. The mother called the Sheriff's Office to report it.
According to the victims, Hernandez sexually abused them
in the Keys, and in Virginia as well. Virginia authorities are also
investigating the allegations.

Hydrogen
Sulfide and Dust Plumes on Namibia's Coast
Cloudless skies allowed a clear view of dust and hydrogen sulfide plumes
along the coast of Namibia in early August 2010. The Moderate Resolution
Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite captured
this natural-color image on Aug. 10, 2010.
Multiple dust
plumes blow off the coast toward the ocean, most or all of them probably
arising from streambeds. Unlike the reddish-tan sands comprising the
dunes directly south of the Kuiseb River, the stream-channel sediments
are lighter in color. Wind frequently pushes dust plumes seaward along
the Namibian Coast. Easterly trade winds blow from the Indian Ocean over
the African continent, losing much of their moisture as they go. The
winds are hot and dry as they pass over Namibia’s coastal plain, where
they are prone to stir fine sediments.
Even with dust
plumes overhead, the marked change in land cover is obvious along the
Kuiseb River. South of the river, sand dunes predominate, but the
vegetation along the Kuiseb River prevents the dunes from advancing
northward. North of the river, the land surface consists primarily of
gravel plains punctuated by rocky hills.
Hydrogen
sulfide appears as a swath of irridescent green running parallel to the
coast north of Walvis Bay. A 2009 study linked the emissions in this
region to ocean currents, biological activity in the water column, and
carbon-rich organic sediments under the water column. The meeting of
hydrogen sulfide gas and oxygen-rich surface waters causes pure sulfur
to precipitate into the water. The sulfur’s yellow color makes the water
appear green to the satellite sensor. |

[Online
Dating] What a dumb mistake to post a personal ad on the internet!
I advertised up on the mainland because the dating pool down here is
substandard. Looked for non-smoker, non-alcoholhead and every reply was
from married people who party like fat rockstars. That online dating
venue is only for people looking for sex. It is much easier to go out
to a bar for casual sex; at least the person is 3D and you do not have
to spend a copious amount of time passing notes and downloading their
ten year old photos. A lot of us do not want just sex and that is way
too risky with all the people infected with so many things they do not
even tell you about before rolling in the hay. |

[Bocce] Deer Ed. Thanks a bunch again for your efforts. It looks
great on the site and people are checking in to see the Bocce scores |
[Sloan] Don’t you just
love the AntiSloan’s casual dismissal of the three goliath issues I’ve
been hammering the County Commission with for months? Downstairs
enclosure genocide, Growth Management Defection, and Gestapo Code
Enforcement officers who goosestep as if their offices and beats are
their own personal fiefdoms over which they have the power of life
and death, and who use the downstairs enclosure genocide to cloud
over what they are really doing to our citizens.
The AntiSloan does not own a home with an “illegal” downstairs
enclosure. The AntiSloan owns a nice spread carrying a big mortgage and
doesn’t want the County Commisision to do anything that might cause the
AntiSloan to end up not having el cheapo federal-backed flood insurance.
The AntiSloan is terrified of my getting on the County Commission,
because the AntiSloan knows I ain’t nothing like Citizens Not Serfs, I
don’t just talk about the big evil FEMA. The AntiSloan knows I will sue
FEMA and the County in Federal Court and ask that 8,000 lb. gorilla to
deal with the 800 pound gorilla and its trained chimpanzee.
The AntiSloan loves Citizens Not Serfs because they made lot of people
think they wuz the White Knights what was gonna save thousands of Keys
homeowners from having to give up their downstairs enclosures. So lulled
to sleep, those thousands did nothing to protect themselves. They didn’t
get a lawyer. They just sat there on their pretty tail feathers like
anesthetized ducks in a shooting gallery, just like the AntiSloan wanted
them to sit.
The Brown family on Cudjoe Key scares the pig shit out of the AntiSloan,
because the Browns are a poster family for what is wrong with FEMA and
the County’s downstairs enclosure genocide. The Browns are the
AntiSloan’s worst nightmare, because any county commissioner who doesn’t
give them a hardship variance on their downstairs enclosure for their
tragically-paralyzed son will be burned at the stake at the polls.
What’s left of the Keys economy and this way of life the County
Commission and FEMA are going to finish off, if they don’t stop the
genocide against downstairs enclosures a lot sooner than the end of my
lifetime. Yesterday wouldn’t have been soon enough to stop the genocide,
nor last year, nor four years before that. It never should have been
allowed to start. We never should have gone into FEMA’s pilot. We should
have sued FEMA instead, and let the 8,000 pound gorilla decide it.
Did you know, AntiSloan, that when I ran against George Neugent four
years ago, he said at candidate forums that my policies would bankrupt
the county? If my policies had been adopted back then, the county would
have quit spreading its legs for developers and just maybe the crash
would have been just a gentle downturn, and just maybe the county land
values and ad valorem tax rolls would have held closer to steady, and
just maybe the county government would not have gone bankrupt.
It don’t take no hindsight fortune teller or rocket scientist to know
development bankrupted our county and is the reason so many homes went
upside down and so many foreclosures and short sales swooped in and did
far more damage to the Keys than Hurricane Wilma ever thought about
doing, and that’s why county employees and lots of other Keys people
aren’t getting raises and are lucky even to have jobs at all. The rest ...

"Bed Bugs* I think some people
think there are no longer any effective, and safe chemicals to rid a
place of them. This is not true. You must be a licensed pest control
operator to obtain these chemicals but they get the job done. Don't let
anyone tell you that everything must go. That is rarely the case ,in
most cases, if there are no holes in it, even the mattress can be saved.
More, often than not the box spring has to go. Also, don't waste your
money on expensive mattress covers because the bed bugs will just go
behind the headboards or any where else they choose.
Check out hotel rooms BEFORE you bring your luggage into th e room.
Pull up the blankets and check the seam around the mattress for a rust
colored substance that looks like it can be brushed off but can't,
that's their fecal matter. Also check around the edge of the box spring
too and also behind the headboard to see if you can see any of them
behind there. If any of things appear get out of that room & ask the
hotel to give another room that is NOT adjacent to that room. If that is
the case repeat your inspection in the new room. Hotels don't have to be
dirty to get them. Bed bugs are great hitchhikers and are spread by
other travelers who stayed in that room a while ago. These are "rules of
thumb" when your traveling. There is no guarantee this will keep
you bed bug free, but it can give you a chance not to get them. I hope
I have been of some to help you guys. And, in ending, I have to say
"THANK GOD I MARRIED MY BUG MAN!" |

[AA Perfection] I think that
the A.A. basher makes a rather moot point, unless I am mistaken A.A.
never claimed perfection, just to strive for that elusive term, usually
A.A's sucess rate parralels the effort put into trying to achieve
perfection. Perfection itself is an elusive term, however using the
broad parameters that society uses when defining the term one can
usually fullfill the requirments needed to satisfy the meaning of the
term, thats what I did and it seems to work for me. I still haven't got
any Info. from the basher on his plan as to how to terminate the insane
alcoholic style of drinking, he mentioned sciences latest breakthroughs
, something to do with a pill or injections or some such thing, sounded
very interesting, I asked for more Info. but alas, at this point no
answer. he seems like a bright individual so I would like to hear his
thoughts not some remote blogger, put into print on this perplexing
subject. |

Want to know how screwed up our, "National Flood Insurance" really is...
Read the article below and you too will realize how the downstairs
enclosure issue here is the Florida Keys is a joke. Look over what they
have been paying for on houses that have flooded 34 times since 1978..
In the example the house is worth $69,000 y...et
federal flood insurance has paid more than $663,000 for this house..
Insanity or stupidity, or one and the same?

Scientists at
the Institute for the Preservation of Bachelorhood (IPOB) are
warning bachelors that the use of alcohol can increase the risk of
getting married.
Men often lead great and exciting lives going about their business and
remaining single. They are able to control their lives and their bank
accounts. Getting married often results in death and divorce and much
worse things like ending up with a spouse that puts on the extra pounds.
Once married men often suffer the effects of heaver drinking,
henpecking, headaches, jealous wives, breeding excessively, checking
account overdrafts, running up credit card debts, having to listen to
her constant bitching, her farting, the inability to meet hot babes,
restrictions placed on their ability to participate in hunting, fishing,
and other sports, and numerous other maladies.
Scientists working at the IPOB have discovered that drinking
alcohol
often results in men meeting their future wives in night clubs and dance
halls, and
parties.
Men will often end up with a future wife after
excessive drinking
The
experiments conducted at the IPOB have proven beyond a reasonable doubt
the alcohol usage leads men to chase women that they would not even have
taken a second look at if they had remained sober.
Did you meet
your current wife while drinking a few drinks that you paid for with
your unemployment check? |

[Proposed
County Taxes] Do the figures 14.1% 17.29% 33.9% and 39.29% mean anything
to you? Would they not be great if they were a raise your employer gave you?
But how about the INCREASE in PROPOSED TAX RATES shown in columns 2 and 3 of
your Notice of Proposed Property Taxes!
14.1% is the increase from 2009's (9.9769 rate to Your Tax Rate this year if no
budget change is adopted. New Rate is 11.3843
17.29% is the increase from 2009's (9.9769) rate to This Years Proposed Tax Rate
if Proposed budget is Adopted. New Rate is 11.7024
33.9% Would be for Mosquito Control District Proposed Budget
39.29% Would be for Low/Mid Fire/Amb District Proposed Budget
Now as bad as these numbers are, insult was added to injury by increasing
the assessed value of my property, to end up with a possible a 15.89% to 19.1%
total increase. Why do they need these percentage increases while the rest of us
are cutting back on spending? Don't these public servants understand were in a
recession? Or perhaps they are patronizing and lining the pockets of the
employees of one of the largest employers in Monroe County, themselves or are
they the same?

Cutbacks in such places as Oakland, Tulsa and Norton, Mass. have forced

Jim Pasco, executive director of the

[how come the
radical liberals who say they hate religion so much, love Islam
and protect it with their politically correct b.s.?]
That's the
problem with right-wingers. They can only operate with two simplified

world is black-and-white and I think I can guess what color they
perceive themselve to be. |

Obama's
Muslim Czar
Dalia Mogahed. It turns out that the Islam embraced by Mogahed is
decidedly fundamentalist — a brand that endorses Shariah or Islamic law
(which, of course, goes against American laws), approves of a restricted
role for women (including the wearing of the Muslim headdress, hajib, in
public), and calls for a global Islamic government. |
CAN MUSLIMS BE GOOD
AMERICANS?
This is certainly 'food-for-thought'. This is very interesting and we
all need to read it from start to finish. And send it on to everyone.
Maybe this is why our American Muslims are so quiet and not speaking out
about any atrocities.
Can a good Muslim be a good American?
This question was forwarded to a friend who worked in Saudi Arabia for
20 years. The following is his reply:
Theologically - no. . .. . Because his allegiance is to Allah, The moon
god of Arabia .
Religiously - no.. . . Because no other religion is accepted by His
Allah except Islam . (Quran, 2:256)(Koran)
Scripturally - no. . . Because his allegiance is to the five Pillars of
Islam and the Quran.
Geographically - no . Because his allegiance is to Mecca , to which he
turns in prayer five times a day.
Socially - no. . . Because his allegiance to Islam forbids him to make
friends with Christians or Jews .
Politically - no.. . . Because he must submit to the mullahs (spiritual
leaders), who teach annihilation of Israel and destruction of America
the great Satan.
Domestically - no. .. . Because he is instructed to marry four Women and
beat and scourge his wife when she disobeys him (Quran 4:34 )
Intellectually - no. . Because he cannot accept the American
Constitution since it is based on Biblical principles and he believes
the Bible to be corrupt.
Philosophically - no. . . . Because Islam, Muhammad, and the Quran does
not allow freedom of religion and expression. Democracy and Islam cannot
co-exist. Every Muslim government is either dictatorial or autocratic.
Spiritually - no.. . . Because when we declare 'one nation under God,'
The Christian's God is loving and kind, while Allah is NEVER referred to
as
Heavenly father, nor is he ever called love in the Quran's 99 excellent
names.
Therefore, after much study and deliberation.... Perhaps we should be
very suspicious of ALL MUSLIMS in this country. - - - They obviously
cannot be
both 'good' Muslims and good Americans. Call it what you wish, it's
still the truth. You had better believe it. The more who understand
this, the
better it will be for our country and our future.
The religious war is bigger than we know or understand. .... |

many of them already exist in NY, and how close the next one is in
relation to the 911 site to begin with?? I know the constitution was
written to protect all, but did our forefathers foresee 911? We change
laws and adapt new ones all the time right? Well why shouldn't we,(as a
nation) be able to come together and revise ones that protect US! Do
you see what us stands for,, US, that's right, us represents the United
States , I say change whatever is needed to;
1) Protect our borders
2) Get illegal's out of our country
3) And most important, allow the state of NY the right to
say what can get put in front of our wound, and what cant !! Its their
state, its their people who got hurt, killed, maimed, lost, and as the
years go on, forgotten, so I say let them (the legal citizens of new
your) vote on what to allow there. OR, better yet allow the families of
those damaged by 911 to vote on what gets allowed, how's that for
fairness ?? That's called the American way !! |

should be an interesting time politically. The President has said he will
as other Presidents have in the past address kids before their upcoming

elected President thru the mud as they did last year.Last year he told
the kids that working hard and depending on yourself are the keys to a
prosperous and successful life.He told them to not depend on others and
to look forward to getting a solid education.Republicans told us that in
reality that it was the type of speech a dictator would give and that it
reminded them of North Korea's leader speaking.I hope this year they
skip the "attack the President even when he does a good job" mindset and
join our President in giving kids some positive encouragement. We shall
see.I'm curious to see if even one Republican commends the President for
such a positive talk to Americas kids.I wont hold my breath but it
could happen. That's one cave mans opinion. Please note that yet again
no backhanded insults were used in this posting.Namecalling I believe

[Islam] As the son of a Hamas co-founder who
became a Christian, a spy for Israel and a consultant to the Holy Land
Foundation terror-finance trial, Mosab Hassan Yousef, offers a rare
perspective on the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood – at once the spawn of
nearly every major Islamic terrorist group and of "mainstream"
operatives in the U.S. such as the Council on American-Islamic
Relations.
Yousef, who recently was
granted asylum in the
U.S. after the Department of Homeland Security tried to deport him, said
in a telephone interview Americans must understand that the ultimate
goal of the highly influential Brotherhood is not terrorism but to
establish a global Islamic state over the entire world.
"If they can establish this in a peaceful manner, that's
fine," he said. "But they are required by the Quran to establish this
global Islamic state on the rubble of every civilization, every
constitution, every government." |

NO NAME UTILITIES |
|
CHOICE IS THE ONLY SOLUTION The
few No Name Key residents who want to remain off the grid can and will,
as they are not being "forced" to pay for or connect to the grid.
The super-majority of No Name Key residents who would
like to rid their homes, lives and island of the loud, smelly, polluting
generators and lead-acid-batteries, and who would like to participate in
the only sustainable modern green solution, grid-tie, will pay be the
ones paying for this "modern utility" and will be be able to connect to
the grid.
Frankly, the 70% majority group is tired of being
"forced" to do without simply because their neighbor doesn't want it.
The equitable and simple solution to the tiresome No Name
Key issue is every person gets to choose their own way of living in
their own home, and the "forcing" ceases.
Any other person in the Keys who would like the
"off-grid" experience can have it: stop paying your electric bill and
you too will be "off-grid". |
|
[No Name Key’s fight to remain off the grid]- that facts in
that article are well researched-about as much as saying the No Name Pub
is on No Name Key. Obviously Ms. Jennifer has never been near No Name-
and the fact that she lives on a 160 acre spread tells me even more-
|
|

No Name electric folks are like coiled snakes waiting for someone
to mention “utilities” and up they pop. Another barrage of “solar isn’t
green” crap. |
|
Don't ignore environmental benefits of grid-tie solar:
People that want to remain "off the grid" on No Name Key
should have that CHOICE. But, it says a lot about the character of
these off the grid" proponents that they continue to mislead the general
public, journalists, county employees and our elected officials about
the real situation on the island. Just to clarify (again):
Fact: No one will be forced to hook up to the electricity
grid, ever. You can remain off-grid forever even if your neighbors hook
up.
Fact: No Name was never a designated solar community,
people bought lots, built homes and expected utilities just like any
other community in the U.S.
Fact: Grid-tie solar has huge advantages over "off the
grid" systems. No generators, no batteries, and you can feed the grid
your excess energy when you have a surplus. You unfortunately will
never hear a NNK off-gridder even acknowledge grid-tie as a viable,
widely accepted solar option.
Fact: The 70% of people on No Name who want the option
of grid tie solar will pay for it out of their own pockets. It speaks
volumes that these people are willing to pay in excess of $20,000 per
household for this option. We realize that for our own quality of life,
and for a greener NNK these expensive costs are worth it.
We commend those who live on NNK year-round and choose to
remain off-grid, you are a dedicated but hardy few. And it's
understandable that the snowbirds that flock here in the winter might
also make that decision. However, what is most appalling is the fact
that the off-grid proponents and their followers continue to spew
misinformation to anyone naive enough to listen, refuse to acknowledge
the benefits of grid-tie solar and net metering, and somehow feel
empowered enough to feel they have a right to deny the 70% majority a
choice in the situation. This haughty, community-wrecking behavior
needs to end. |

The
past 24 hours have been an overwhelming experience for me and I
am sorry that I have not been able to write this thank you until now.
There are so many people that I would like to thank, but I would like to
thank one person in particular, Jay Marzella. His kind words of support
have meant a great deal to me. Over the last ninety days or so Jay and I
have spent a great deal of time together and I have come to respect him
for what he has done for our community and I consider him to be a
friend.
When we started this campaign together Jay and I shared
the same goal, that the Mosquito District needed change to meet he
needs of the taxpayers. We knew in the end that one of us would prevail,
but we both agreed that we would support who ever won. On Tuesday,
almost 5,000 votes were cast in District 2 for a change. For us to
accomplish this goal I will need the support of every one of you and
more. Together we can do this and make the County a better place for us,
our families and children. Thank you,

A
few days ago we took our grandson Michael to the reef for his first
snorkeling adventure. Now, I have been snorkeling and diving these
fabulous waters many times for many years, however, this day was
exceptional. Pulling away from the dock we could see summer storms in
all directions, but a small window was clear directly ahead in the
direction we needed to go. Our five-mile trip to the reef was fabulous
because of the ominous storms on both sides with brilliant lightning and
black clouds all the way down to the water. Michael has always been
interested in weather and this was something straight out of a movie.
One particular storm was forming to our left and started out with just a
small rain shaft. But in a matter of minutes turned into a
We arrived at the reef and tied up to a mooring buoy. I
immediately put up the dodger on the front of the boat, which is similar
to a pup tent and we all crawled under until the rain passed.
Amazingly, all the storms dissipated and the water was flat calm and the
skies were sunny, rewarding us for not giving up. I helped Michael put
on his tiny fins and mask and then downed my own and jumped in the water
first. Immediately as I looked down onto the reef I could tell this was
going to be a very special day. Visibility was probably 80 feet or so
and my boat had already become a haven for hundreds of fish. As Michael
joined me in the water his nervousness was quickly overrun by his
excitement. After probably an hour and a half of snorkeling seeing
thousands of fish including two beautiful sharks, it was time for Papa
Howie to take a break. Michael on the other hand wanted more and had to
be coaxed out of the water. He just did not want to stop, which was way
cool.

[A/C
Needed] I am involved with some volunteer work here in Big Pine, and
the one facility that I tend to most, is in need of an air conditioning
system. The size would be around a 1.5 to 2 ton capacity. We are
definitely looking for either someone to do a rather nice
donation,($2,200) or if a company has a used system in their warehouse
and would like to recieve some credit on their tax return this year for
a considerable donation, we would be most honored to have them step
forward to do this. We have our own people who have volunteered to
install the system and maintain it, we just need the equipment. All the
children who come there from all over the country would be able to rest
from the outside heat and be safer and cooler. Please, if you cant or
dont have one, ask your neighbor or your friend if they know someone who
might be able to help out for this noble cause. . if you would like to
help out you can email me. Thanking you in advance.

[Sleep
Tight, Don’t Let the Bedbugs Bite] On Tuesday, the pest control
company Terminix released its list of the
15 most bedbug infested cities in
the nation. To compile the rankings, the company used data on the number
of calls received by its service centers nationwide that reported a
bedbug problem. Per Terminix,
here how the list shakes out.
1.
New York
2. Philadelphia
3. Detroit
4. Cincinnati
5. Chicago
6. Denver
7. Columbus, Ohio
8. Dayton, Ohio
9. Washington, D.C.
10. Los Angeles
11. Boston
12. Indianapolis
13. Louisville, Ky.
14. Cleveland
15. Minneapolis

the use of DDT, which nearly eradicated the critters in the 1950s.

I too am very proud of the Monroe County Voters....they do have a long
memory...Last member of "The Gang of Three" will be gone in November.
His money and mouth did not get him the votes he needed. Now we need to
work on the 2,282 or 35.21% of voters that did vote for Mario
DiGennaro. Got a good system to get the word out from the Upper Keys to
Lower Keys....how can we reach these other voters to make sure they are
aware of the issues, anyone got any ideas? Thank you for voting and
turning out...to protect our unique Florida Keys...our home... hope to
hear of some offers of ideas for a better way to comunications with our
fellow Monroe County voters.... |

[Muslims] A group calling
themselves "White Roses" created a video to inform non-Muslims about
Islam. The name of this video is Three Things About Islam.
White Roses is headquartered in
Sweden. This first version is in English. The name "White Roses" is
based on a student resistance group "Die weiße Rose" in Nazi Germany.
The group became known for an anonymous leaflet campaign, from June 1942
until February 1943, which called for active opposition to Adolf
Hitler's regime.
This is informative and worth

[SUFA Scandal]
Say what you will about SUFA,
but keep in mind that in running them off, the County just replaced an
organization that ran two shelters and covered 53 miles of territory for
$230,000 with one that spends more than that on salaries alone (even
though they only cover 16 miles and run a single shelter with a higher
kill rate and a lower adoption rate). |

Sloan,
Save your beloved taxpayers money get out of the race. Regarding your
issues, this is the way it is
1) Downstairs enclosures will not be accepted in your lifetime.
2) Growth Management will soon be set straight.
3) Code Enforcement, you are partly right, code enforcement needs to be
restructured to assign officers to enforce solid waste and sewer codes,
along with illegal trash businesses that have popped up in several areas
of the county. Code enforcement has focused so much on the downstairs
enclosures that the officers do not know how to enforce anything else.
This county is giving
away hundreds of thousands of dollars monthly, by allowing people to get
away with coming to Monroe County and doing business
without businesses licenses. It is time that code enforcement be
refocused to enforce all codes not just downstairs enclosures. |

Postal Service Question, Except

whenever I see a mail carrier vehicle from Marathon down to Big Coppitt,
they are all driven my women? It has been this way for a long time now,

of a woman postmaster? Is there or will there ever be a chance for a

[DJ
George] I agree with the poster yesterday, about having fun at
Parrotdise on Saturday nights, these last few weeks. I do love most of
the local bands, but I can only listen to songs like "Sweet Home
Alabama" so many times. The DJ at Parrotdise (George) is a breath of
fresh air, as he has thousands of songs to choose from. They have a bar
downstairs, and the bartender (Lisa, I think) is great! And there is no
cover charge, like one person told me they had heard, plus they have
great drink prices downstairs.
I wish more
people would come check it out on Saturday nights. The sand is packed
down, so you can easily dance, with or without shoes. This past
Saturday, it started raining, but that didn't stop George. He just
covered everything up, put the music on "auto-pilot", and joined
everyone under the building, where we could still dance and have fun
until the rain stopped.
Kudos to Parrotdise for having
this venue, and I hope they continue! |

I received a forward from Josie Koler, Key West Bureau Chief of The

going to a nude resort being one way to avoid paying the airline a
check-bag fee . . .
I emailed Josie back that this sure-to-succeed economic stimulus package
might succeed even more if she leads the charge, in the buff. The Weekly
Newspapers are home-based in Marathon. Just imagine the effect on the
sleepy, or should I say nearly dead Marathon International Airport, if
the City of Marathon and Key Colony Beach, and Long Key, Curry Hammock
and Bahia Honda State Parks, make their Atlantic-side beaches, hmmm,
buff-it beaches. Just imagine hordes of passengers wearing
only sunscreen disembarking from commercial airlines at a
thriving Marathon International Airport. County Commission candidate

what went off in my harem there, when they saw the size of that 1 iron.
You shoulda seen the commotion.
(Part II) I wasn't happy with Rice's win, but otherwise it turned out
well. I can't argue with being called "the perennial candidate," after
running every year starting 2006; meaning, this is the 5th straight year
I've run for something. Tack on the Key West mayoral in 2003, and a
brief, then aborted, write-in county commission race in 2004, and that
leaves out only 2005. Perennial is pretty close to the money.
So far this year, the Citizen hasn't called me a "gadfly,"
which they have done in the past when writing about my candidacy. It
used to bug me, then Sandy Downs looked up "gadfly" after she got tagged
with it during her one race for sheriff. I just pulled this down off the
Internet:
"Gadfly" is a term for people who upset the status quo by posing
upsetting or novel questions, or just being an irritant.

AA Advisory #121: Honesty plays a very big part in AA. Rigorous
honesty. Honesty is in the big book of AA 18 times.
“Honesty,
Open-mindedness, & Willingness is the H.O.W of the religious cult
program.” This often-repeated slogan is tossed around in meetings,
supposedly to inform newcomers that THIS is how the program works. There
are many lies in the AA meetingrooms and dishonesty is just another
defect of character within the rooms. Look around the room and listen to
what the members are saying. How many AA members are collecting
unemployment or are on Social Security Disability and at the same time
illegally working under the table for cash. They must be working their
own dishonest program. Many AA members talk the bullshit talk but they
certainly don't walk the walk. Are you one of the dishonest AA steppers?
Remember that this is a program that demands rigorous honesty. |

[Mosque] What does it take for people to understand that America is not

understand that America was founded by a group of very brave individuals
who wanted to form a country where people could have the right to
worship however they wanted to. It's in the Constitution. Freedom of
religion. Again, we are not a Christian nation, or a Jewish nation, or

concept is what makes America so great. We need to value and cherish
our freedoms. Our founding fathers were smart men! |

in most things this is one writers opinion does not make it any more
relevant than thousands of other writers opinions, my opinion of the

working taxpayers in the U.S. that not only bailed out G.M. but all the

huge reason for the bailout,

Dombroski beat Marzella for
Mosquito Control. Marzella had two shady things going against him:
renting his Homestead Exempted property and seemingly trying to bribe

Because of the abuse of the Acevedos to the system, the climate is

[SUFA Scandal] It's not uncommon, especially
for nonprofits in the Keys, to act as if they are lucky even to have
anyone on their board. Wrong! They deserve -- and should always expect
-- to have a very participative board.
Sometimes I wonder if people actually have demonstrable
experience in what they are writing or if they're just writing what they
think should be the case. Non-profits deserve a lot of things, but what
they get are complaints, thankless hours of hard work, and lots of
criticism. People who have time to volunteer generally are too busy
fishing, playing bingo, or want to be paid; the bulk of volunteering
comes from people who work a full-time job and who just don't have that
much time. Those non-profits who have "a very participative board"
should consider themselves lucky - all one of them. |

California Attorney General Edmund G. Brown Jr. today filed a $34
million lawsuit against television’s “Tax Lady Roni Deutch” for
orchestrating a “heartless scheme” that swindled thousands of people
facing serious and expensive tax collection problems with the IRS.
Tax Lady Roni Deutch is engaged in a heartless scheme that swindled
people with tax problems,” Brown said. “She promises to
significantly reduce their IRS tax debts, but instead preys on their
vulnerability, taking large up-front payments but providing little
or no help in lowering their tax bills.” |

[Sloan]
George Neugent beat Danny Coll 55-45 percent, for which we all
should be grateful. I found myself wondering, “If Danny got 45
percent in a closed Republican primary against a seasoned county
commissioner, what would the vote split have been if I had not
entered the District 2 primary and Democrats and Independents
had been able to vote in the Republican primary? George and I
will square off in the November 2 general election.
I told Bill Becker at the Harvey
Government Center last night of three big issues I see in
George’s and my race:
1) Downstairs enclosures.
I said we have 7,000 illegal downstairs enclosures in the Keys
that FEMA is trying to eliminate and destroy the Keys economy
and its way of life. The County Commission is terrified of doing
anything that might upset FEMA and cause it to pull
Federal-backed flood insurance out of the Keys. FEMA needs to be
put into Federal Court, so an 8,000 pound gorilla, a United
States District Judge, and deal with the 800 pound gorilla,
FEMA.
2) Growth Management.
I said we have a serious problem in Growth Management.
It defected, went over to the developers in the Wisteria Island
deal. It forgot who it represents: the County government and the
taxpayers. It has to be straightened out.
3) Code Enforcement.
I said we have some good people in code enforcement, but we have
too many people there who, and I’m hardly the only person saying
it, behave like the Gestapo. They have to be reined in. They
have to start serving the county correctly.
I said George and the other
commissioners know about these three problems, but we might have
different ways of trying to deal with them. I said I like
George, he has been a good county commissioner.
Meanwhile, I told Lee Rohe the day
before yesterday, Lee is the lawyer representing the Brown
family, whose son, Darren, is paralyzed from the chest
down, if George Neugent doesn’t do all he can to get the County
Commission to give the Browns a code variance, so Darren can
live in their downstairs enclosure, I will beat George up with
that in the ensuing campaign. I said, so far, it seems
all George and the other commissioners are really
concerned about is how the Browns’ case ended up before the
County Commission. They don’t want to have to deal with it,
because if they side with the Browns, they go against FEMA, as
they see it. I told Lee to stay on top of this, to be prepared
for the County Commission, or county staff, to try to get the
Browns’ case off of the County Commission docket.

[Bright

Two
extremely bright stars illuminate a greenish mist in this image from
the Spitzer Space Telescope's "GLIMPSE360" survey. This mist is
comprised of hydrogen and carbon compounds called polycyclic
aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which also are found here on Earth in
sooty vehicle exhaust and on charred grills. In space, PAHs form in
the dark clouds that give rise to stars. These molecules provide
astronomers a way to visualize the peripheries of gas clouds and
study their structures in great detail. They are not actually green;
but are color coded in these images to allow scientists see their
glow in infrared.
This image is a combination of data from Spitzer and the Two-Micron

Personally
I really like the new no-edit format. I think it is important
to see just how the person intended to communicate his ideas without
any grammatical assistance from Ed. It also makes the site much more
humorous to see what a poor command of the English language some
people have. On a completely different subject try doing a Google
Image search on “Deer Ed” and check out the third picture. I think
it is pretty amazing that this relatively obscure website ranks that
high on Google. Many companies pay big bucks (pun intended) for that
kind of ranking.

[Flood
Insurance] People forget that the County signed up for the FEMA
National Flood Insurance Program in 1975 at the request of
homeowners who desperately wanted affordable flood insurance. Then
the property owners embarked on a wholesale program of cheating the
system and putting in illegal downstairs enclosures to rent them to
tourists to pay for their mortgage. The characterization of DSE's
as affordable rentals is a lie. I am a 20+ year resident with a
good paying job in public service and I've never been able to
afford a DSE rental. What the County needs to do is back away from
the FEMA insurance program and put the responsibility where it
belongs: on the the DSE property owners. Once the County withdraws
from the FEMA program, they can revise their codes and will no
longer have to enforce the FEMA floodplain regulations and the DSE
codes that have been enforced by FEMA. The DSE property owners can
figure out on their own how to insure, or not insure, their
downstairs enclosures, and the County can be be done with it. Of
course, clean-up of hurricane debris from destroyed DSE's is still a
problem that FEMA won't like to reimburse the County for their
removal expenses as is commonly done, but they can work that out in
time. The County needs to dump this problem back onto the backs of
the property owners where it belongs and make them pay for the
insurance of their homes in whatever manner is available to them.
And to
'Citizens Not Serfs': as soon as you start getting the bills from
Lloyds of London to insure your home, will you be back at the door
of the County screaming for them to subsidize you? Sorry, I am
simply not interested in subsidizing your extra un-taxed income.
Those who
want the added income of a DSE can deal with the added expense of a
DSE. Period. |

[Booms] More than 90 percent of the hard boom initially deployed
as part of the federal-led response but now potentially posing more risk
than it offers protection for vital shorelines in Mississippi, Alabama
and the Florida Panhandle has now been recovered. Because virtually no
visible oil has been spotted on the surface of the Gulf in these areas
recently, and in order to protect shorelines from any potential damage
caused by boom in severe weather, the Incident Command Post at Mobile (ICP
Mobile) announced that more than 1.5 million feet of hard boom has been
recovered from those state waters.
Responders remain vigilant and ready to deploy boom should it be needed
to protect the coast from any new threats from oil that may emerge in
the coming days and
weeks.
“Removal of hard boom is the right operational decision,” said U.S.
Coast Guard Capt. Steven Poulin, Incident Commander at ICP Mobile. “We
remain fully committed to this response and stand prepared to redeploy
boom should that be necessary as well as remove any oily material from
the shoreline as quickly as possible in our continued effort to protect
the Gulf Coast and its natural beauty.”
ICP Mobile has worked with federal, state and local officials to
evaluate plans for boom removal. During extreme weather the boom could
become a navigational or safety hazard, or could damage environmentally
sensitive lands. After the boom is removed, it is inspected, cleaned,
repaired (as necessary) and stored at sites along the Gulf Coast for
immediate redeployment should the need arise. Boom that cannot be
redeployed is recycled or reused to the fullest extent practical. |

[Private
contractors Evicted] They were taking the best
recruits from the army and police they were training, effectively
decimating the native security forces in Afghanistan. The Americans
hired the contractors to train the Afghans, but when they were trained
the contractors hired them away. They got troops they had trained at no
cost. We were paying them to train a security force only to have the
trainers hire them away to their private security firms. Nice deal for
the contractors, bad deal for everyone else.

Love how
FTR (Fudging Text Reliability), urges us to read an article on the
Bush Tax Cuts authored by Brian Riedl of The Heritage Foundation; (a
conservative "think tank" *scoff*) which is published in the Wall Street
Journal- a Rupert Murdoch publication. Way to go out on a ludicrous
note, FTR.
I'm just glad
that when my mother-in-law goes in for her hip replacement surgery,

Hate Muslims] A Christian Nation cannot put up
a Christmas scene of the baby Jesus in a public place, but the Muslims
can stop normal traffic every Friday afternoon by worshiping in the
streets. Something is happening in America that is reminiscent of what
is happening in Europe. This is Political Correctness gone crazy. |

Theres a new Gallup poll out that says that for
the first time in 3 years Americans have a positive view of the American
auto industry.Maufacturing is coming back and I have not seen 1 post
from FTR or any FOX talking heads giving us the great news.Wonder why?
The Economist (a Magazine thats all for free markets)
wrote that it feels President Obama
deserves an apology because the takeover of GM didnt go
wrong.
In fact the article said that GM is indeed planning on
selling back its public stock to private investors. And is repaying the
loans with interest.Thats a free market economy folks.
The lesson for American Voters to learn the article says
is that "Their President for all his flaws has no desire to own the
commanding heights of industry.A gambler yes, an interventionist yes but
a Socialist, NO".
When you hang all of your hopes on bad news and chicken
little stories you cannot enjoy the facts that American industry thou
lacking in jobs so far is rebounding. These are manufacturing jobs
people. And the FTR crowd wanted them to fail. Some of the jobs may go to
Mexico at least a portion but the cars will be sold here in America and
around the world. That means American dealers, mechanics, salesmen,
office staff and auto support companies, American truckers will haul the
cars and pay the road taxes to continue rebuilding Americas failing
infrastructure.
And yet the poor guy cant enjoy the successes this
country has because of him not having the ability to see good in his own
country. And why exactly isnt the FOX news network all over this?Bad news
and fear sells better.
The article can be found in politico.com.

[Bagel
Island]
Last week people were writing about Bagel Island being
for sale and how it made them feel. My wife and I know Brian
and Donna and frequent their shop regularly. The reason they are selling
it is because their original plan was to work it as a family run
operation. After Brian got hurt and Donna’s wheat allergy got so bad
they had to hire full time help and take jobs elsewhere to support their
business and their community.
After almost 5 years they are selling it not because it
isn’t profitable, but because of Donna’s health and the fact they can’t
work side by side to keep it a family run operation. So keep that in
mind as they didn’t close down and leave anyone hanging when times got
tuff.
By the way editor, its 5 years in business now you have
their ad saying 4 years! (Ed:
I changed it. Five years is a long time!) |

[Burn,
Baby Burn]
National Key Deer Refuge will be conducting prescribed burns on Big Pine
Key Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. On both days ignition is
expected to begin after 7:30 am. Tuesday's burn will be along Key Deer
Boulevard across from the Blue Hole and Nature Trail parking lots. The
next burns will take place south of Watson Boulevard and between Key
Deer Boulevard and Fern Ave. Fire personnel and law enforcement will be
in the area for the duration of ignition to extinguish the fires and
manage traffic along Key Deer Boulevard.
Under prescribed conditions, highly trained wildland fire specialists
will plan, test, set, and extinguish the fire. All units are being
burned to reduce the density of palms and hardwoods in order to open up
the mid-story canopy to benefit rare plants, butterflies, marsh rabbits,
and Key deer. Fire personnel will ignite the burns from the ground and
patrol along the perimeter of the burn units by foot and with small
all-wheel drive utility vehicles.
The refuge fire staff is supported by Big Pine Key Volunteer Fire
Department, Florida Division of Forestry, and Fish and Wildlife fire
management staff from Panther National Wildlife Refuge (NWR),
Loxahatchee NWR, Merritt Island NWR, Alligator River NWR, and Aransas

[Sloan] Automated Tele-marketing. I set up the
robo-calls for Mr. Coll through a firm that does that work in
Massachusetts. One call only was made last week-end and one call
Saturday the 21st. The firm will confirm that. No politician in his
right mind would schedule more than one call per day. Danny did make
a call tonight directed only to Hispanic Republicans, necessary because
of the anti-Hispanic hysteria being spread by Neugent’s advocate Sloan
Bashinsky. [emphasis added by me, Sloan]
This poster is either mistaken or deliberately posting false
information. Robocalls can be effective in delivering “breaking news”
too late for print ads. In his call Danny pledged to the voters that he
would do his best to ensure that county taxpayers never again face an 11
per cent tax increase. That should be important information for those
who want to chose candidates on the issues rather than on receiving a
single robo-call!
If I had to wager a tidy sum, I would say this Tim is
Tim Gratz, Danny Coll’s not entirely squeaky-clean campaign
manager, with whom I probably exchanged two dozen emails, all initiated
by Tim in his efforts to persuade me that Danny would be a better county
commissioner than George Neugent. Along the way, I decided Tim stretches
the truth to make points. I decided I wouldn’t know when to believe Tim
and when not to believe him.
The only people I see spreading Hispanic hysteria are
Danny Coll, Tim Gratz, Richard Sands and the Citizen. Inasmuch as I
wrote several times that I liked Danny Coll and thought he might make a
good county commissioner in four years, if he got his business and
personal life straightened out, I now have to retract that. Someone who
invents and promotes racial hysteria is not someone we want on the
county commission.
Hispanic Republicans are voting for Danny simply because
he and they are Hispanic. Is that bigotry? Is that racial prejudice
against Anglos?
Imagine what would have happened if I had not filed to
run for the District 2 county commission seat and Hispanic Republicans
had joined forces with Democrats and Independents, combined outnumbering
the rest of the Republicans more than 2-1, and voted George Nugent out
of office. What better proof that we need to get rid of partisan voting
in local elections in the Keys?
If elected on November 2, I will try to end partisan
local elections. And I bet I will be accused of being bigoted, racially
prejudiced against Cuban-Americans, nearly all of whom are Republicans,
thanks to John F. Kennedy’s abort of the American/Cuban-American
invasion of Cuba.
The rest ...

The North Face brand was established in 1968, in San Francisco,
California, when Douglas Tompkins and Kenneth "Hap" Klopp created an
equipment retail store that eventually acquired the current name "The
North Face". This name was chosen because the north face of a mountain
in the northern hemisphere is generally the steepest, coldest, and most
difficult face to climb.
The North Face's easily recognizable logo consists of a
slightly skewed quarter-circle with two lines running within it. This
image is supposedly an interpretation of the famous Half Dome rock
formation in Yosemite National Park. Adjacent to the symbol are the
words THE NORTH FACE embroidered in large block letters. |

[SUFA Scandal] Can I remind everyone that Linda

Just like all 501(c)3s, she has a Board of Directors.
She has to answer to them. If they are complacent or aggressive, we'll

not read any where about them.
It's not uncommon, especially for nonprofits in the Keys,
to act as if they are lucky even to have anyone on their board. Wrong!
They deserve -- and should always expect -- to have a very participative
board. They ought to attend to major decisions about the nonprofit.
Who knows how SUFA's board was built and maintained. Maybe this board
does not include highly committed and active members. I can't find
their names to share with you. It'll all come out. |

Did you listen
to Mario on US 1 Radio on Monday? Mario said “His actions speak
louder than words”! Take a look at his contribution records…Totals of
over $93,000.00…”42% of his total contributions are from NON
LOCALS”….”30% of his total contributions are from developers, lobbyists,
and disaster recovery companies.” Should or Do these people who have
contributed to his campaign expect preferential treatment and favors?

It has been said that voters have short memories. Mario
DeGinerro is counting on you…. to forget the last 3 ½ years.
Who can forget Mario’s buddy Dave Clark and the “Cay
Clubs” experience? You can be sure that the hundreds of our friends who
lost everything when the smoke and mirrors magic show folded won’t
forget any time soon.
Speaking of magic, how about the “Gang of Three” and
their dirty tricks running the County finances straight underwater. The
team of McCoy, Dixi Spehar, DeGinerro and County Supervisor Tom Willi
operated with total distain and arrogance as they funded pet projects (
remember Hickory House?) and promised County support to developers for
some of the most hair brained plans imaginable. Does everyone remember
the developer from “North Phili” who was going to build luxury hotels at
both airports with County ‘help’? Our personal favorite, however, was
the takeover and building condominiums on Pigeon Key …. What was he
thinking?
After just a few years with the ‘Gang of Three’ at the
helm the County was left in financial shambles. When the picture of our
financial devastation finally came to light our ex County Administrator
Willi was given a ‘package’ he couldn’t refuse ($300,000!!). Well,
friends are friends right? Mario, as he so often does, says it best; “I
have total confidence in Tom Willi”.
While we’re talking about confidence in friends how about
his good friend Randy Acevedo and his wife’s systematic bilking of the
school system’s coffers. Quote Mario “Randy is a good friend of mine and
he’s innocent until proven guilty”…. how’s three felony convictions?
In Mario‘s recent radio interview he was confronted with
his poor choices regarding past alliances and ‘friendships’. His
response was that he’s ‘a changed man’ and has learned by his mistakes.
Even so, new Mario reminds us every so often what lurks
just beneath the surface. Let’s look at campaign finances. As of the
most recent public disclosure, Mario has raised over $91,000, far and
away the most ever raised by a candidate for this office. Interesting to
note that over 30% of the total was from developers, lobbyists and
disaster recovery companies, one assumes for preferential treatment and
‘favors’; sound familiar? Perhaps as interesting is the fact that 42% of
the total was raised from non locals and another $10,000 from ‘personal’
funds.
Over the past year and a half the “Gang of Three” was
broken up and Mario has been, thankfully, isolated by four Commissioners
who seem to have the best interests of the County as their number one
priority. They don’t always agree but there is a mutual respect that
enables ideas and dialog that may allow us to get out of the current
financial mess. There is a lot of focused, hard work in front of our
officials who have actually been elected and they really don’t need
Mario’s grandstanding and personal agenda to deal with.
Give us all a break. –Bill Ehrhorn, Marathon |

[The Anti-Sloan Responds] So you think I'm

me anyway.
And speaking of the Sloan, did anyone else take a
good look at his refutation of the racism charge against him? He
claims to have physically attacked ("beaten up" is his words) men,
women, blacks, homeless and even cities for being racist. The man is
amazing! He has left a trail of broken bodies and has never even
been charged for assault once. And just how do you "beat up" a city,
Sloan? Do you head-butt the front door of city hall or maybe kidney
punch the police station? You are a very violent person Mr.
Bashinsky and a threat to the historic buildings in Key West. They
are old and fragile and can't defend themselves from an assault by
you. Try to limit your attacks on the city of Key West to the more
recently built structures. |

seemingly driven by a turban. As I passed it, I got a quick glimpse

He was headed to Leavenworth. Imagine my lack of surprise. Jumping
to my own conclusions I figured he was on a recruiting tour. He
certainly looked in the mood for promoting jihad. |

[Editing
Lightly] Having "evaluated" (read edited and graded) thousands
of graduate student papers, and fewer doctoral dissertations, I must
say that editing becomes habitually compulsive, and no small error
is comfortably overlooked. Most painful, however, is that it is far
easier to rewrite a poor paper from the beginning than it is to
attempt to make a bad one read grammatically correct, and make
sense, too. My sensitivities are abused almost daily by diurnal
speech, and local newspaper writing, but ED, you need not feel an
obligation to educate. Breaking the habit will come hard. I have
tried to quit numerous times. If you can get past Step Three,
without starting to smoke again, and scarf down fewer than 12 cups
of coffee before noon, maybe you can convince me that breaking the
editing habit can be accomplished. Good luck. |

released) I have stopped illegal aliens driving vehicles 95% of the time
without a driver’s license or insurance. I have worked accident scenes
where the other party was left to fix their own vehicle and pay their
own medical bills due to the illegals driving...illegally. Many of the
people I encounter have been arrested and deported several times before.
We arrest them again and turn them over to Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE). We are seeing an influx of violent gang members
from Mexico, El Salvador and Honduras. The drug cartel violence is not
limited to south of the border.
Illegal aliens are receiving food stamps and housing in San Antonio.
Many times I have found that the housing being provided to them is used
for the sale of narcotics and prostitution.
The housing, food stamps and medical care is provided to the aliens at
no or minimal cost. The victims of anyone unlucky enough to be in a
vehicle accident with an alien are just that, victims as they will bear
the cost of the accident alone. Remember your Economics classes? "There
is no such thing as a free lunch". Somebody pays.
I was involved in the last part of a vehicle chase that after traveling
through 3 counties ended with a rollover accident in my district. The
suburban evading the police care was carrying 15 illegal aliens when it
rolled. 4 died at the scene, 3 ran off and the remainder was
transported via ambulance and air life to local hospitals. As the
highway had to be closed, accident investigated and injured treated this
took 8 police units and 6 ambulance units, 2 crime scene units and
follow up supervisors out of service for 6 plus hours. This made them
unavailable to respond to other emergencies (for example if you were
being robbed, your car was stolen, or you were having a heart attack...
you would get help, but you would probably be waiting several hours).
By the way...taxpayers covered the bill for this. |

Income
redistribution!! People have done many
studies on the scenario that this poster presented. The general
consensus is that within 10 Yr's. over 92% of all the wealth of the
nation would be back where it was before the redistribution. |

FTR, I will accept your challenge. You challenged anyone
to show you that a majority of the American people want the Bush
taxcuts to expire.Gladly, thanks for asking.Go to Politico.com and look
under the title politico44 and you will see that just over 50% of
Americans want the Bush taxcuts for the top 2% to expire.
Hope this helped.
Your point of saying the vast majority of Americans do
not want them to expire was untrue.

[From the Right] On
the one hand it is a good thing that some Obama fans have decided to
actually weigh in with their beliefs, on the other hand it is a shame
that they can’t (or refuse to be) truthful and/or accurate. One dude
yesterday accused me of lying, he/she said that I was lying when (and
if, because I don't remember making any such claim) I said that “most
Americans don’t want the Bush tax cuts
to lapse.” Then the poor soul really stepped in it when he/she said
quote: “60% of Americans do indeed want them to lapse.” The poster
claimed that
Politico.com was his/her source; he
urged that we all check it out. So I did. What follows are direct quotes
from the Politico.com article that discussed the Bush tax cuts: “51
percent think tax cuts should continue only for families making less
than $250,000 a year, while 31 percent feel the tax cuts should continue
for all taxpayers. Only 18 percent think all of the tax cuts should be
allowed to expire.” Hey Gang! Only 18% of Americans believe that all the
tax cuts should be assassinated. 51% of us think that families making
less than $250K should keep the tax cuts. 31%of us think that no matter
what the family makes should still get the tax cuts. The Politico
article actually tells us that 82% of us want the tax cuts to continue
is some fashion. While only 18% of us want all of the Bush tax cuts
dead. That’s a tiny minority! That’s only the very hard core left.
That’s the socialist nutty fringe that want to redistribute all wealth.
It is an important fact that about a third of us believe that the cuts
should continue for every taxpayer regardless of income. I hope that
the Obamphile just made a simple mistake and was not trying to mislead
us on purpose. I don't want to think that he/she was lying. Another
poster urged us to read an article entitled “Five
myths about the Bush tax cuts” by Gale in the Washington Post.
I doubt that the poster actually read the article. Here are some quotes
from it: “As a stimulus measure, a one- or
two-year extension (of the tax cuts) has one thing going for it -- it
would be a big intervention and would provide at least some boost to the
economy.” Gale wrote: “Although the cuts were large and drove revenue
down sharply, they are not the main cause of the sizable deficit that
exists today. In 2007, well after the tax cuts took effect, the
budget deficit stood at 1.2 percent of
GDP. By 2009, it had increased to 9.9 percent of the economy. The Bush
tax cuts didn't change between 2007 and 2009, so clearly something else
is to blame.” Just for the record, Gale tells us that the Reps were in
charge when the deficits were low, and that the Democrats were in
control of the economy when the deficit soared. To be fair, Gale
concludes that the permitting the tax cuts to die is a better course
than saving them. That opinion is vigorously disputed by other
researchers who are convinced that raising taxes during the worst
economy in 25 years is a profoundly bad idea. Liberal author, Gale, was
a staunch opponent of the tax cuts when they were enacted. Gale is on
staff at the Brookings Institute. Time
magazine has described the institute as the “nation’s pre-eminent
liberal think tank.” I suspect
that you actually have interest in this issue, because you’re still
reading this. To learn why the tax cuts should live on, I suggest you
take the time to read a WSJ article entitled “The Bush Tax Cuts and the
Deficit Myth” by Brian Reidl.
(Part
II) My Deer Friends, this will be my last posting for a while. I’ll be
out of commission for several days, perhaps a little longer. I’ll be
having hip replacement surgery today (Tuesday) and I don’t think that
the hospital will permit me to bring my beloved pedal powered Radio
Shack Trash 80 into my room. I would not bore you with this bit of
personal trivia, but I damned sure didn’t want anyone to think that the
Obamaphiles might have shut me down. I’ll be in read only mode for the
near future, so I sure hope that our Right Wing frequent fliers will
keep up the great work. I’m eager to stay current on the ongoing fray.

[Tortugas]
Don't take your 21 ft boat to the Dry Tortugas. yes it will probably
make it there & back under ideal conditions but more than likely the
weather will blow up and you will be stuck down there for a very long
time. there is no food, water or gas for sale down there and you will be
at the mercy of any bigger boats as to what you can bum from them. when
I used to lobster trap down there I saw that scenario play out too many
times. a couple of times when I felt sorry for some fool that was
stranded there I would tow them back to Key West. You should see their
eyes as they watch their 25 ft Mako surfing down a 15 ft wave as I
drag it behind my trawler. everyone I have towed back said they would
never do any thing that stupid again. from the Marquesas to East Key is
a very nasty stretch of open water. many seaworthy commercial boats have
to pick their weather before crossing. you are asking for a lot of
grief if you take a skiff to the fort. |

The SUFA saga continues.
According to Saturdays' Keynoter, more shenanigans from SUFA. They won't
let a county employee (the auditor) onto county owned property (the
shelter's building), to look at county records (their accounting books).
Now all of a sudden, after the county wants to look at the SUFA
accounting books they have every right (by signed contract) to look at,
the SUFA accounting books have been relocated from the SUFA shelter
(county owned) building to SUFA's accountant's (private)office. Why,
why, why? This is moving towards looking really bad for SUFA. And once
again, it's the animals that will suffer for the wrongs of the humans
supposed to help them. |

But who is Monroe

As a county of

Come on,
people; we are better than this. When will we as the people say enough
is enough. The entire rest of the nation is allowed to have downstairs
enclosures without the scrutiny that FEMA has suggested that our local
elected officials impose on ourselves. And we, the people don't have
the outrage to elect county officials to stand up to FEMA's crap. |

Does anyone remember when Mario DiGennaro was
trying to lift ban from Tom Willi appearing before the BOCC after he was
fired? “Tom Willi with the help of the “Gang of Three” (DiGennaro,
Spehar, and Sonny McCoy) walked away with almost $300,000.00 dollars of
hard earned money from the taxpayer’s, and you, Narior, see no harm or
hurt? Taxpayer’s don’t forget about $300,000 for the Sterling Program,
close to $500,000 for hired outside attorney Jerry Coleman Willi cost
the citizens of Monroe County. Commissioner Neugent and Commissioner
Murphy stated very plainly where they stand.
Remember this at the polls on Tuesday. Please get out
and VOTE. |

Some observations on the eve of election day.
1. I'm not real wild about Danny Coll, but George Neugent's smug
arrogance is wearing very thin. Lately he's been acting as if he were
anointed to his commission seat.
2. We now have our chance to get rid of the last of the "Gang of Three"
who reeked such havoc on our County when they had the reins of power.
Mario finally has opposition and it's time to have him join Sonny and
Dixie as ex-commissioners.
3. Morgen McPherson wasn't even a good enough mayor to win reelection
in Key West. It's hard to imagine him being effective in Tallahassee.
Don't forget, too, that he was Randy Acevedo's number one cheerleader as
well. Good judgment does not appear to be his long suit.
4. Time to send another Acevedo apologist packing as well. Debra
Walker needs to go.
5. Avoid any potential of another scandal such as that mentioned
above. Vote to have the school superintendent as an employee (appointed
rather than elected).
Remember, if you don't vote, you have no right to complain about who
gets elected! ~Tryin2FindIt@aol.com |

fin’s, Karen’s Blue we jump in for a swim, 3 Dusky sharks circling , a
hog fish there, Parrot fish , Snapper, and all those crazy little
sargent majors everywhere, I am hearing Paul Mcartneys Jet, La La La La
La Sargeant Major, I heard your were gonna be Marrying soon. I looked it
up the lyrics that is to Jet, there seems to be some argument to what he
was writing about some say his dog, others say David Bowie, and even
others say nothing, He was just stringing words together together,
because he could do what he liked, Anything. I rather like the latter
concept. But the more I think about it, he was singing about the
Sargeant Majors eating strawberrys at Loo Key, you know the Beatles did
visit Key West. |
[Flying's
a Drag] iReporter Lisa Oaks posted an iReport this week that caught
our eye -- a photo of a man in the Dallas Fort-Worth Airport wearing
short shorts and a halter top. "This is ok for a male revue nightclub,
but not for public daytime," said Oaks, whose husband Mark snapped the
shot.
According to Mark, the passenger was allowed to board his American
Airlines flight, which he said came as a surprise. "If a woman was
dressed like that, there's no way she would get past the parking lot,"
he said. Lisa echoed his thoughts. "Rules of dress in public places
like airports should be uniform policy and enforced for all sexes," she
explained.
American Airlines'
conditions of carriage state that passengers who are "clothed in a
manner that would cause discomfort or offense to other passengers" may
be refused entry on flights. We have contacted the airline for
additional comments on this issue. |
[Sloan] I am many things,
but a racist is not one of them. I abhor racism, and have demonstrated
that many times in posts to my websites. I have beaten people up for
being racists and bigots: whites against blacks, blacks against whites;
straights against gays, gays against straights; cities and communities
against homeless people, homeless people against cities and communities;
men against women, women against men. Everyone who knows me, knows this.
As for Richard Sands letter to the editor, he is either not very bright
or is a hit man. His line of reasoning actually reminds me of some of
the arguments I saw Tim Gratz weave against you in emails he sent to me,
trying, apparently, to win my support for Danny Coll against you in
the Republican primary, and perhaps trying to persuade me not to enter
the District 2 race, which would have made yours and Danny’s an open
primary in which Democrats and Independents could vote. After I entered
the race, Gratz continued to lobby me hard for Danny, against you.
I went after Danny hard because I became convinced Danny was presenting
himself as a fiscal watchdog for the county government, even though all
evidence literally falling into my lap was that his NAPA business is in
shambles due entirely to mismanagement. I verified the mismanagement
through former employees and through local mechanics and garage owners
who normally would pull parts from Danny’s NAPA, given his close
proximity to them. Instead, they use Danny only occasionally and pull
most of their parts from the Marathon NAPA, Advance Auto Parts in
Marathon, and even from the mainland.
In a rough down economy like this one, Danny’s NAPA should be doing
great because people repair instead of trading in their old vehicles for
something new. I confirmed this about NAPA stores with two Keys NAPA
dealers: Key West Mayor Craig Cates, who recently sold his NAPA
dealership, and the owner of the Marathon NAPA dealership. Danny’s NAPA
store, I was told by the people who fell into my lap, got into trouble
because he let his fiance influence his business judgment. She knew
nothing about the business but he was letting her run it. This circles
back around to what I asked Danny the very first time he and I sat down
and talked at his request, with his fiance present, early this year, at
his NAPA store. I asked Danny where he would find the time to put in 60
hours a week to be a county commissioner and still run his NAPA
business? He said his fiance would run it and he would oversee her
management.
That’s part of why I went after Danny. The rest ...
