Just read the article in
the Key West Citizen (10-30-09) /Hickory// House draws only 1 bid/. This
article brings back memories of the auto executives who helped drive their
companies off the cliff, and then our government flooded them with
taxpayer’s money to get them back from the brink. What about the mortgages
that could not be paid back? Our government is handing out blank checks from
the American taxpayer to save their homes.
What has happened to being
held responsible for your choices and actions? Has being responsible and
accountable for our actions left us?
Where have they gone? As a
parent, my children were taught there are consequences for your actions .you
make a choice there will be a reaction for that choice. While I was growing
up if you borrowed money for a car, but do not pay the loan, what happened
to the car? If you acquired a mortgage for your home and defaulted, what
happened to your home? If you did not run a business productively what
happened to your business?
Who was held accountable
or responsible for their votes on the Hickory House fiasco? (*/You, me and
every taxpayer in Monroe County)./* Who paid the hard earned dollars of
*/$3.1 Million Dollars/* for this property plus all the other charges that
have been applied to this purchase?, Who is paying the difference now with
increased taxes for the loss of taxes from this property? What are you doing
without now, to pay for the increased taxes?
Did the Commissioners who
voted for this purchase know what they did was wrong? Did they care? Were
these Commissioner’s held personally responsible, or accountable for their
actions? *_No! _*
*We* are being held
personally responsible, accountable and paying the bill!
How can these former and
present Commissioners now face you out in the public without holding their
heads down in shame for what their vote did to you as a taxpayer? How can
one former Commissioner ask for a payment plan or option to pay taxpayer’s
back for collecting unemployment instead of being responsible and paying the
full amount back? How could this Commissioner even apply for unemployment in
the first place? How can a former school employee allow taxpayers to pay
their attorney fees after being accused (/alleged/) of stealing money from
our children?
Do
you solve the problems by feeding it and allowing it to continue without
consequences? When will citizens of Monroe County stand up and require
answers, or require accountability from ourselves and from our elected
officials? Are you tired of being the pocketbooks for all of these actions
without accountability and consequences? Speaking of bringing back memories
of Bernie Madoff; (/he is paying the consequences now)./ |

The
commissioners are the ones who get hung.]
If
the commissioners were doing their job properly and ethically, they wouldn't
get hung. Commissioners and their staff need to establish a protocol system.
If a resident calls with a complaint about a county service that is not
urgent, the commissioner or his/her staff should ask the resident if they've
taken their beef to the department that provides the service, if they
haven't, give them the department's phone number and the name of the
director or the deputy, that's where residents should start. What currently
happens is that the commissioners get a call and immediately intervenes
without investigating the nature or validity of the complaint. The
commissioner or his/her staff immediately calls county staff and turn a
routine complaint into an emergency, panic mode complaint.
Most
Monroe County employees do their job and they do it reasonably well
considering their modest salaries, but they are trained that if a
commissioner or his/her staff calls you drop everything and take care of
their concern(s). Sadly, 90% of the calls could have been easily taken care
of if the person would had called the department directly.
Yes,
commissioners must be responsive to us taxpayers but they must also respect
their employees. Remember, if you disrespect an employee, that's probably
the worse negative publicity you can have. Why? Because employees are
considered "insiders" by most voters, and that adds credibility to anything
they say. So, if you like being a commissioner by all means brown-nose us
taxpayers, champion Higgs Beach, Trauma Star, dog parks, health care, no-bid
contracts, the pot holes, the Hickory House, but be fair and respectful in
your treatment of county employees.
Another issue that
will get commissioners hung in the near future is allowing the hiring of
family and friends not qualified for the job they're being hired for
(example: the administrator). Taxpayers will understand the hiring of a
qualified relative or friend, but they do not understand the hiring if the
person is not qualified to do the job. |

O.K., who do we believe? Are we supposed to believe those experts who say
that the earth is ready to perish in a blaze of heat, or do we believe those
other experts who say that the earth is actually cooling? One expert wrote
part of a book titled
Global Ecology: Readings Toward a Rational Strategy for Man.
In that book he said that man caused pollution was causing a serious drop in
global temps. He expressed a worry that we might be on the verge of a new
ice age. That expert was John Holdren who is now Mr. Obama’s Science Czar.
He wrote that in 1971 after having personally examined and interpreted the
evidence. Today, after the same process of examining the same data. Mr
Holdren has come the exact opposite conclusion. Indeed, he has prospered
with his change of mind, for he was one of the major movers of the Gore
“Inconvenient Truth” propaganda film. We’re warned that “A major climatic
change would force economic and social adjustments on a worldwide scale,”
warns a recent report by the National Academy of Sciences, “because the
global patterns of food production and population that have evolved are
implicitly dependent on the climate of the present century.” At least that
is what were warned of by- Newsweek - April 28, 1975 “The Cooling World”.
This Global Warming hype is pure bunk specifically set up to diminish the
role of America in global affairs. |

It’s just now coming to
light that 9 historically black universities are set to receive $9 Million
of stimulus money to fund nuclear training programs. Only one of the
universities now has an existing nuclear training program. It’s a pork
spending program with the money going to S. Carolina and Georgia. U.S. Rep.
Jim Clyburn, the Columbia Democrat who serves as majority whip in the House
of Representatives, pushed for the HBCUs to get the funding. One wonders why
only HBCU’s (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) were selected.
There is no mention of any such funding for any historically white
university in either of those states. Are there no HWCU's in either state?
Are there no CBHCU's (Color Blind Colleges and Universities) in either
state? The White House says that there are 6 HBCU's in S.C. and 3 public
HBCU's in GA. Didn't Mr. Obama promise us post racial governance? One must
also wonder why an earmark spending package is a part of the stimulus
package. |

THIS
should be read and understood by all Americans
Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!
To
President Obama and all 535 voting members of the Legislature,
It is
now official you are ALL corrupt morons:
-
The U.S. Post Service was established in 1775. You
have had 234 years to get it right and it is broke.
-
Social Security was established in 1935. You have had
74 years to get it right and it is broke.
-
Fannie Mae was established in 1938. You have had 71
years to get it right and it is broke.
-
War on Poverty started in 1964. You have had 45 years
to get it right; $1 trillion of our money is confiscated each year and
transferred to "the poor" and they are still poor.
-
Medicare and Medicaid were established in 1965. You
have had 44 years to get it right and they are broke.
-
Freddie Mac was established in 1970. You have had 39
years to get it right and it is broke.
-
The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen our dependence on
foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000 employees with a budget of
$24 billion a year and we import more oil than ever before.. You had 32
years to get it right and it is an abysmal failure.
You have FAILED
in every "government service" you have shoved down our throats while
overspending our tax dollars AND YOU WANT AMERICANS TO BELIEVE YOU CAN
BE TRUSTED WITH A GOVERNMENT-RUN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM??

Interesting tax proposal (Vermont)
Vermont State Rep. Fred
Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S.. Constitution as well as
Vermont's own Constitution very carefully, and his strict interpretation of
these documents is popping some eyeballs in New England and elsewhere.
Maslack recently
proposed a bill to register non-gun-owners and require them to pay a $500
fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first state to require a
permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a fee of $500 for
the privilege of not owning a gun.
Maslack read the
"militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only affirming the right of
the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear mandate to do so. He
believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by the Framers of the
Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by the government as
well as criminals.
Vermont already boasts
a high rate of gun ownership along with the least restrictive laws of any
state - it's currently the only state that allows a citizen to carry a
concealed firearm without a permit. This combination of plenty of guns and
few laws regulating them has resulted in a crime rate that is the third
lowest in the nation. |

[MORE,
TIRESOME, SOLAR GROUP LIES]
The solar-birds are flying
back to NNK from their summer homes, and already they are in their neighbors
business (what we do in their own homes).
-Just in from her summer
home in Canada and already Alicia P. is publically dispensing her warped
lies as to why I, or anyone, would want safe drinking water. So Alicia, for
the record:
1) Cistern
water is not safe to drink, pursuant to the World Health Organization and
over 50 scientific studies. Further, my family’s medical records, or health
issues, or any other personal information, related to cistern water (or any
other matter) is none of your business Alicia.
2) What a
ridiculous and pathetic try, water has nothing to do with a swimming pool.
I could put in a pool right now and have FKAA come and fill it with water;
running a pump is an issue, not getting water into a pool. Honestly, how
stupid do you really think we (readers) are?
3) As your
issue has been electricity/solar, and as safe water has nothing to do with
your dwindling "solar-group" what-so-ever, what’s your problem this time?
If you are “anti-utilities”, then tell us why you have telephone and
internet service, or why you have utilities in your other homes? Or is it
just that you want to decide and control what utilities your NNK neighbors
are “allowed’ to have? –Seriously already Alicia, get a grip and get on with
your own life; mind your own business in your own home instead of sticking
your nose into your majority neighbors’ homes (our majority,
btw, represent over 70% of this island).
4) Are you
seriously still trying to peddle that same “taxpayer footing the bill” crap
you did just a few days ago? You were already straightened out (publically)
that we are paying for the electricity (but you already knew that before you
spread your latest pile of manure). As for the water, that will not be
coming out of Monroe County coffers either, but you know that too. But, if
you want to talk about robbing the taxpayer, then go on Alicia, tell the
public the truth. Tell them how you pushed the County into denying Galleon
Bay (your next door neighbors!) 12 building permits; tell the taxpayers how
it will cost us millions ($10 million I last heard) just so you don’t have
12 neighbors!
What’s next Alicia, you
already got caught with your old lies of the past: the CBRS rule you wrote
(nope, I’m not in a CBRS area), the Comp Plan rules you wrote (nope, State
Law overrules and invalidates them), maybe you’ll just have to go back and
tell us why the deer will object!
Seriously Alicia, we, and
most everyone in the County, are over you and your insane rants, raves and
lies. Alicia, when the utilities come, hook up or don’t, your neighbors
really don’t care one bit. -Or better still Alicia, go back to Canada and
stay there. |

Police: Drunk Man Crashes Stolen Lawnmower Into School Bus
http://www.ocala.com/article/20091030/articles/910301007
MARION COUNTY, Fla. -- A Marion County man is behind bars after
investigators say he got drunk and drove a stolen lawnmower into the back of
a school bus.
Martin and a friend fell off the lawnmower when it hit the bus and then got
mad and started banging on the doors of the bus when the children started
laughing.
The
lawnmower, a Scag Turf Tiger model with a 61-inch cutting deck, is valued at
$10,000. It had been reported stolen Wednesday morning from a residence in
Ocklawaha. |

I read the CT every day
and I try to be objective about the political viewpoints espoused by
contributors. I look at each post, and the facts therein, as if an internet
"debate" were taking place. I like to read "From the Right" guy's posts as
they are backed up with facts and the resources used to quote those facts
(yes, I do check them). There is always the "other side of the story" on any
issue. What the CT sorely needs is a "From the Left" viewpoint just as
carefully researched and articulated. My plea to CT's left-leaning
contributors is that you support your arguments with documented facts and
figures. Many requests have been made to argue your viewpoint with rational
discourse based on data instead of emotional vitriol and name-calling. So,
how 'bout it? Anyone up to the challenge of being "From the Left"? If
this "debate" were a tennis match, then "From the Right" is the only one who
has shown up to play. |

Your last comment was "are we too lazy or too stupid to stop
it?". Well, I have a theory on all the things we should be or could be
stopping/not allowing to happen to us: I think the government wants us (what
used to be the middle class - now approaching poverty level) to be so
busy looking for work, scrambling like maniacs to keep our homes, our
possessions, our kids out of trouble and in school, and about a million
other things we need to do just to survive, so that we either don't have the
time or the inclination to get involved. Most of us down here doing
all that scrambling feel very hopeless about the quality of our lives, and
so we trudge on daily (I work seven days a week most of the time, only
because I have an employer who has a big heart and who tries to keep me in
work) trying to make ends meet. And people are moving in as roommates
because that's the only way many of us can make it. I lived in my beautiful
home for almost four years because I lost my job, and finding anything that
pays a decent wage is impossible. I get a small pension from my career as an
RN in New York. It's the only thing that allows me to pay my rent and bills.
Right now the only job I could get was in housecleaning.I tried working down
here for a while as an RN, but it did not work out for reasons that I won't
go into here. But I will tell you, the top salaries for nurses here are
appalling. Less than half of what I made in NY. But I love it here, despite
the BS that goes on. And so I keep struggling. I couldn't move back to NY
even if I wanted to - I don't have the money for anything like that.
Besides, I really love it here. And so I fight on the best I can.
So, in answer to your question about folks being too lazy and/or
stupid, I really feel that the word that would be more appropriate is
"overwhelmed". And anyone who is not overwhelmed and enraged at the state of
our little society down here isn't paying attention - more than likely
because once again, their lives are filled completely with the business of
survival. And the wealthy down here don't care about people like us - so
what else is new?
Anyone else out there feel the same? A conch passport an act of
subversion? HA! Where can I get one and where do I sign? Anyone for an act
of subversion? If we all could do that, I don't think
they could put us all in a time out. Same with revolutions - it takes a
village to make changes. |

The
Afghan Quarterback
The coach had put together the perfect
team for the Detroit Lions... The
only thing that was missing was a good quarterback. He had scouted all
the colleges and even the Canadian and European Leagues, but he couldn't
find a ringer who could ensure a Super Bowl win.
Then one night while watching CNN he saw a war-zone scene in Afghanistan
....
In one corner of the background, he spotted a young Afghan Muslim
soldier with a truly incredible arm. He threw a hand-grenade straight
into a 15th story window 100 yards away.
KABOOM!
He threw another hand-grenade 75 yards away, right into a chimney.
KA-BLOOEY!
Then he threw another at a passing car going 90 mph.
BULLS-EYE!
"I've got to get this guy!" Coach said to himself. "He has the perfect arm!"
So, he brings him to the States and teaches him the great game of football.
And the Lions go on to win the Super Bowl.
The young Afghan is hailed as the great hero of football, and when the
coach asks him what he wants, all the young man wants is to call his mother.
"Mom," he says into the phone, "I just won the Super Bowl!"
"I don't want to talk to you, the old Muslim woman says."You are not my
son!"
"I don't think you understand, Mother," the young man pleads. "I've won
the greatest sporting event in the world. I'm here among thousands of my
adoring fans.."
"No! Let me tell you!" his mother retorts. "At this very moment, there
are gunshots all around us. The neighborhood is a pile of rubble. Your
two brothers were beaten within an inch of their lives last week, and I
have to keep your sister in the house so she doesn't get raped!" The old
lady pauses, and then tearfully says,
"I will never forgive you for making us move to Detroit! |

COMMON-SENSE HEALTH CARE REFORMS OUR NATION CAN AFFORD
What Americans want are
common-sense, responsible solutions that address the rising cost of health
care and other major problems. Here are four common-sense reforms that will
lower health care costs and expand access to quality care without a
government takeover of our nation's health care system that kills jobs,
raises taxes on small businesses, or cuts Medicare for seniors:
·
Number one: let families and businesses buy health insurance across
state lines.
·
Number two: allow individuals, small businesses, and trade
associations to pool together and acquire health insurance at lower prices,
the same way large corporations and labor unions do.
·
Number three: give states the tools to create their own innovative
reforms that lower health care costs.
·
Number four: end junk lawsuits that contribute to higher health care
costs by increasing the number of tests and procedures that physicians
sometimes order not because they think it's good medicine, but because they
are afraid of being sued.
All Americans, please
consider this common sense alternative to Speaker Pelosi's 1,990-page
government takeover of health care. I urge you to watch for it. For a
preview, go to:

Special to the
Independent who claims not be not angry with the Right Winger poster. Gosh,
perhaps you and I actually have common ground. Permit me to say once again,
I only know about you from your postings. Your claim to have had many,
many, occupations is interesting. I would assume you have had a wide range
of experience. Accordingly, I again compliment you on your self reported
successes. Achieving success in any endeavor is worthy. In your first
posting you proclaimed that the middle class is being victimized. In your
second post you proclaimed that our national pain is caused by greed,
investors, speculators, etc. You proclaimed that our middle class is the
true strength and backbone of our nation and you proclaimed that investors,
corporations, etc. should be denied their profit and that that profit should
flow to the middle class. You specifically said that “the real cause of the
economic downturn were the large cooperate profits and the corporations
manipulating the rules.” I’ve reread your previous postings and compliment
you on your concern for those you consider downtrodden or exploited. In my
view the anger that you express at those who reside above your pay grade is
misdirected. I wholeheartedly agree that those who violate the laws and
rules governing commerce should be punished and their ill gotten gains
stripped from them. Apparently you are convinced that a little greed is a
good thing, but that greed that exceeds your greed is evil. It is all a
matter of scale. The fact is that it was greed that put us where we are
today, both in our successes and in our current pain. In your lexicon, greed
is desire to accumulate that exceeds your personal ability to accumulate.
Our current pain can be traced directly to the actions of politicians that I
have previously mentioned. It was Democrats turning a blind eye to chicanery
that facilitated those who through illegal methods and exploiting piss poor
legislation were able to rape our economy. Did Republicans play a role? Yes,
but it was inconsequential compared to Democrats. You seem to be suggesting
that you believe in the notion of excess profits. I wonder if you ever were
convinced that any of your profits were excessive. If so, do you believe
that once profit reaches a certain (government mandated) level, that profit
should be banned or perhaps redistributed. Your postings sure suggest that
thought. You’re labeling of investors as being evil is stunningly wrong. I
have been an investor, but have managed to lose money nearly every time.
Does the fact that I tried to make money on my investment make me evil? I
think not. It’s safe bet that you have been an investor. Everybody who has a
mutual fund is an investor. I daresay that huge numbers of middle class
familys are investors. Once again: Investors, big, huge, and small keep our
economy running. Your ire seems to be focused on those who have risen to the
top of the financial ladder, and especially large corporations. Indeed you
have told us that large corporations are hell bent on, your words:
“Abolishing the middle class”. That statement is simply stupid. Without a
prospering middle class, large corporations could not exist simply because
the middle class is the customer base. I could fill pages with other
specific points, but if the readers are interested they will go back and re
read your postings to come to their own conclusions. Frankly I doubt that
most of them give a dink one way or another as to your personal
political center or mine. I believe what they care about is simple common
sense and a robust America that they can be proud of. I believe that you may
have some internal need to call yourself an “independent”, but in your chest
beats the heart of a Socialist. I also suggest that the Socialist emblem is
a badge that some wear with pride. Mr. Obama was mentored by Socialists and
Communists, and according to his writings he respects and treasures those
teachings. Even though I was a wage slave that never ran a business, I am a
Capitalist, and quite proud of it. I only wish that I was better at it. Like
every one of us, I'd sure like a little more. I respectfully suggest that
you come out of the Independent closet and proudly proclaim your devotion to
Socialist dogma. Having bored our readers with this silly disagreement; the
truly important issue is that most recent iteration of Obamacare. It is a
fiscal and medical Man Made Disaster (google it) under construction. They
have hidden the real cost(over $1.4 Trillion) by off loading about $5
Billion of the costs to other programs. That shell game reduces the deficit
impact of Obamacare ONLY. It simply shifts $500 Billion of it to
Medicare. They will have to cut Medicare and Medicaid. They will raise taxes
on the middle class. They will punish small business. They will ration
care. They will shrink the quantity and quality of medical care. And, worse,
they will do nothing to actually make it cost less to deliver medical care. |

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;
it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.
As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.
Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!
*****
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.
Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.
Live simply and appreciate what you have.
Give more.
Expect less
NOW .......
Now for the rest of the story. The donkey later came back,
and bit the farmer who had tried to bury him.
The gash from the bite got infected and
the farmer eventually died in agony from septic shock.

MORAL FROM TODAY'S LESSON:
When you do something wrong, and try to cover
your ass, it always comes back to bite you. |

You know one guy that can dish it out and can’t take is Steve Estes of
the News Barometer. For years now he has ripped apart his fellow
neighbors on No Name Key and has constantly berated them and other folks
that are just minding there own business and trying to live. Well the
other day I merely left a comment (I think that’s what a comment
section is for) on his webpage about his wife.) This is a copy of his
unsolicited email to me….
[Now we have reached the
harassment stage. The next contact will be from our lawyer. I will ask
only one time to cease and desist all communication with this email.
The next time I
hear from you I will consider it stalking and harassment.
If you have a
problem with me, come out from behind your skirt and speak to me about
it.
This has reached
the stage of harassment. This will cease Now. Play your game with
someone else. Remember, getting into a fight with someone who buys ink
by the gallon and paper by the ton is not the best of ideas.
Why don't you
call me and discuss what your issue is with me since I write everything
that goes in the paper. Or do you just want to hide behind your skirt?]
Mind
you he initiated the first email, I merely left a comment on his web
page. He sounds like he’s a newspaper mogul in Big Pine Key…His
newspaper is widely used in these parts for wrapping fish and packing
material. What a man. ~Sal [salkeylargo@keylargokey.com] AKA Sal

[Dope
for Dopes] It’s really boring having a discussion with someone who
sees the endgame as the need to be right. Frankly I couldn’t care less.
That’s because I’m in the real world, working in a rehab center, where
some of my clients don’t want to smoke pot anymore. Some of them make
it. Some don’t.
Many of those who don’t, wind up in severe, life threatening mental
distress that goes to issues of guilt, shame, fear and self-esteem.
There’s no right or wrong there, or scare mongering, or government
conspiracy or word play. It just is.
Once again, you rhyme off a list of substances and try to rank them in
order of addictive potential when from what I’ve seen in the field it’s
not the bait - it’s the hook. In other words, where addiction is
concerned, it’s not the drug per se that’s the problem, it’s the
attachment and the reasons behind the obsessive, compulsive attachment.
Victimless? Okay have it your way. It doesn’t change or solve anything. |

[Key
Deer] This is my first time writing to the famous Coconut Telegraph
and I'm excited! I live on BPK and enjoy seeing the deer on most
mornings as I pull out of our driveway. This morning I spotted a doe
with 4, count 'em, four young trailing behind her (two girls, two
boys). As I slowly pulled out of the drive I saw what has caused to me
to write into the CT.
The two young males were on their hind legs "fighting"
with each other. It was cute, because I know at their age that it is
play fighting in preparation for adulthood mating rituals. We've lived
here for a year and I've never seen the deer do this out where anyone
can see them. It's just so neat to see them on a daily basis wandering
around. They do piss me off though, because they ate my newly planted
Plumeria. I'm torn between love and hate, I guess. |

A

gunshot wound to the head for several days before anyone thought to
contact police. The body was in full view of neighbors, who saw the body

alert authorities to the apparent suicide. The grisly scene on the
balcony did not alarm residents, as they believed it was part of a
Halloween display. |

Only in America do banks leave vault doors open and then chain the pens

Only in America do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the

Only in America do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in
packages of eight.
Only in America do they have drive up ATM machines with Braille

1/4 truth guy, once again you
assume too much. Your rant is utterly ridiculous; and talk about someone
getting upset, I think it's you. You rambled on and on about what you
think I may have done and you know nothing about me. Gee I wonder who
really has the thin skin here. Because you are a business owner doesn't
mean you allow greed to control your thoughts. That can only be measured
by your actions and how you treat the people who work for you. No one
has said we don't need investors, all I am saying is that greed has
corrupted our system. It seems to me that you are defending the greedy
ones that have caused a lot of these problems except when it comes to
the ones you dislike. Then you bash them. As I see it, your bashing goes
along party lines. It seems your allegiance is to the Party not to the
nation.
I consider myself an independent and have voted for both
Dems and Republicans, and recognize that Barney Frank needs to go. Who
do you think needs to go on the Republican side? I am sure there are
just as many on the Dems side as there are on the Republican side or the
isle-straddlers.
Remember that it’s government by the people and for the
people, not government by corporations for corporations. That is what
this nation has turned into. $1 million a day is what health care
providers are spending to lobby against health care reform. Do you think
they are spending that money to improve health care or to keep their
profit margin? Who is lobbying for the people? Our economy comes down to
the strength of the middle class, without them we are nothing. They
fight our wars, they build our nation and it's products and most of all
they consume our products which is what fuels our economy. It's not a
difficult concept to understand and most do. |

[Commissioners should stop micro-managing employees and let them
do their jobs] Who do you think has to face the voters, campaign to get
elected, answer for the state of the county? The employees? Not hardly.
The commissioners are the ones held accountable, not the employees. Of
course the commissioners have to participate in the running of the
county. What you call micro-manage, us voters call good and necessary
oversight. The commissioners have to watch every thing the staff does.
The commissioners are the ones who get hung.
And, lets face it, left on their own, some staff have not shown good
skills in their judgments or deeds.
The voters have often seen staff, in public meetings, on camera, give
commissioners information that is less than 100% informative, correct
and complete, recommendations that reflect personal agendas rather than
the best interest of all county, and flat out spin to influence their
(usual) 3-2 voting pattern.
The commissioners have the additional burden of staying one step ahead
of staff, and knowing which staff has which agendas to push or protect. |

You’ve
got to love ole 1/4 truth guy. As usual he points out that Obama
morphs the English language. Yet I didn’t read his post when Bush
changed the name "suicide bombers" to "homicide bombers". And then he
went with a nice sounding phrase "troop surge" instead of what’s been
known for decades as an "escalation in troops". Convenient memories run
abound in republican circles. To bad he sees no good and improvement in
America. Imagine hating the country you were born in because you lost an
election. Oh well, the people have spoken and things are indeed getting
better everyday. The farther we get from the republican administration
the more America is coming out of its doldrums. |

Warning to all local caterers,
resorts, entertainers, etc, anything to do with a wedding. Julie Hill is
here name. If you were contacted for wedding accommodations around
November 6 beware, you’d better call and confirm. Do not trust her.
Here's why.
About 2 months ago a seemingly nice lady called me and said I came
highly recommended and asked for my services for November 6th.
After our making a deal, she expressed how relieved she was, and I
sounded perfect for their needs. I gave her a choice of 3 options from
her minimum needs to an upgraded package, so the choice was hers and she
decided even my best package was reasonable and chose that one. She
mentioned how concerned she was about other service provider needs. I
contacted some people I had worked with and I passed on her number and
needs, which she additionally thanked me for and sincerely acted
relieved. She said to send a contract and she would do whatever it took
for my services. Her sincerity and her several calls to confirm told me
I could trust her. I will be the first to say it is my own fault for not
sending a contract, but for 30 years in my business, I have rarely used
a contract except for national tours and have rarely been burned—until
now. Tonight, just one week before the event, she calls me and says it
was too much stress for her to handle the accommodations and she turned
things over to someone else and they did everything differently. She
said she had to cancel my services because she hired another company. I
suggested and reminded her that she should let them know that you
already secured certain services and should uphold her previous
commitments. She had offered to send a 50%- 100% deposit prior to the
date. I had told her it was okay and I was trusting her. She gave me her
word and that was good enough for me. So please remember this name and
beware of Julie Hill and her word.

[From
the Right] The GDP took an uptick of about 3% in the 3rd
quarter. Look a little further into the numbers. The news is good for
all of us, and I’m sure that they will want to give credit to the Obama
Stimulus Bill, but, that’s not a good idea because less than 15% of our
tax dollars of stimulus has been spent so far. The minimal spending done
so far really didn’t get started until sometime in mid to late March,
really not long enough to radically impact anything. Then you might want
to consider that GDP calculations are based on the formula: GDP =
private
consumption +
gross investment
+
government
spending + (exports
−
imports).
Now, please think about the “government spending” component in the
equation as you read the following quote about the GDP uptick from the
Bureau of Economic Analysis dated 10/29/09:
. “The third-quarter increase largely reflected motor vehicle purchases
under the Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Act of 2009 (popularly
called, “Cash for Clunkers” Program).” We know two things about the Cash
for Clunkers programs; 1: its history, gone, kaput, dead. And 2. We
know that it cost you and me $24,000.00 of our hard earned tax dollars
for every car sold under the program. We really should have just bought
every one of those customers a $23K and be done with it. I don’t think
that the stimulus had any real effect on the recession. Recessions are
fiscal hurricanes that occur regularly and have a predictable
progression. They typically last 18 months whether the government throws
money at them or not. This recession began in December 2007. Iit is now
22 months old and is dying of old age. We must be careful not to prolong
its life artificially. The Great Depression is an example of the impact
of ill advised government intervention. Did you know that the White
House had reported very impressive numbers that they claim were the
result of stimulus spending?
Before you get
too giddy with all the good news, you also should know that AP is
reporting the government published job creation numbers have been
fraudulently inflated. The AP report is shocking: “AP found job counts
that were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of paid
positions; jobs credited to the stimulus program that were counted two
and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs that were credited to
stimulus spending when none was produced.” Way to go O! L/Px2 business
as usual.
(Part II)
Ms. Pelosi just prattled and grinned that the new House
Healthcare Bill will cost us only about $825 billion or so. That’s an
important number because Mr. Obama has promised not to sign any bill
that added to the deficit, or exceeded $1 trillion. The old, or previous
House Bill had a component that would have cost $250 billion, and would
have exceeded $1 trillion. So she just took that component out, and
added that $250 billion to Medicare. Suddenly the old bill is reborn
minus $250 billion in spending and just under the magic $1 trillion
dollar mark.
Just imagine
that you had told your spouse that no more money could be spent on your
MasterCard because you’re going way out of budget and going broke. Your
spouse says “Sure Honey, no more spending on MasterCard, we’ll save a
lot.” Then your spouse breaks out the Visa card and spends big time on a
bunch of junk that your family neither needs nor wants. Well that’s what
Ms. Pelosi just did. It’s a bad news bill. Even MSNBC actually reported
that “Congressional budget experts predicted the controversial
government insurance option would probably cost consumers somewhat more
than private coverage.” I sure hope that there is a good supply of
KY-Jelly kicking around, I'm afraid that we might need it. |

[Snowbirds]
I love snowbirds because they are my bread and butter. An old say is
“don’t bite the hand that feeds you.” If we didn’t have the snowbirds
bring in a fresh supply of cash the Keys would be a ghost town
overnight. After all, we can only steal from each other so long before
we need a new infusion of cash. Frankly, I don’t know why the tourist
keep coming since it is obvious that most locals don’t want them here
and they don’t even hide that fact while trying to rip them off. I’m
looking for a business elsewhere and I will be glad to be gone where
people appreciate each other, work together, and not be toxic with
negativism. |
|
[Good fishing photo] I say bad fishing. The body
count looks irresponsible. No wonder there are no fish like that off Key
West anymore. Some people wonder why today’s take limits seem
draconian. That photo was a good example. |

[Lumping
pot in with cocaine] Thanks for spelling that out, cop. I see now
that you were just trying to demonize a relatively benign natural plant
by attempting to link it with words and ideas that are hated; like
cocaine and gun crime. I've been you. I was once a press secretary for
a conservative political candidate. When my work was reviewed by a
high-priced political consultant from Washington DC, I was strongly
urged to change the words "tough on crime" to "tough on drugs and
crime". The association encourages the reader to create a subconscious
opinion that drugs are bad; this, in turn, is helpful to the party.
In fact, drugs are not bad; they are
good. We live longer today because we have drugs and our children will
live longer than we do because they will have even better drugs. Pot is
not the same as cocaine. It is nowhere near as habit forming as
cocaine. Nor is it near as addictive as alcohol, caffeine, or even
sugar. But you are not trying to have a logical discussion about what
substance is more harmful to society; you are simply lumping words
together and creating a bias in an attempt to brainwash people to
further some political, moral or religious agenda.
I'm not judging,
mind you, and I don't care if you enjoy coffee, cigarettes or a stiff
drink, but don't try to link pot with cocaine, gun crime and global
warming. |

I just found out that having a Conch Republic Passport is
considered by Homeland Security as an act of subversion and can affect

true. The sad thing is everyone that I know that has one considers it a
novelty or a joke. |

[Sewer tax]
the writer totally misses the point of the sewer mandate. The Clean
Water Act which allows no pollutants in the Florida Keys waters. Oh,
yeah, we know how often our beaches and parks are closed because the
water is unsafe for swimming. The writer encourages those who have
“already put in sewer systems” to vote “no new taxes” and then asserts
that those that “got-mine” should not pay for anyone else. That sure
sounds like fear and greed propaganda to me and someone who only thinks
of themselves. The largest area yet to be designed and connected to
central sewer system is the unincorporated areas of Monroe County (ie
Cudjoe Key through Big Pine Key and No Name Key). The rich residents,
the municipalities, and other areas that opted out of dealing with FKAA
and Monroe County have already complied or will be in compliance
shortly. Only Monroe County has ignored the state mandate and failed
the residents. I would venture to say that most of those still
waiting for sewer connection are full-time residents who would have
gotten sewer connections if the writer had not been selected to be done
first by the county commissioners. I believe everyone has been paying
taxes so they have paid for your system. Your second reason for no new
taxes is also flawed. You should be thankful for those who have second
homes in the Keys. They pay a very high property tax just so they can
live here 4 months out of the year since they cannot claim the homestead
exemption. Or are you implying that second homeowners and tourist have
poop that is somehow better than full-time resident’s and the state was
mistaken not to exempt them when they wrote the sewer connection
mandate? |

Apache
and I finally made it to Seirra Vista, AZ from
the beautiful Florida Keys. 2600 miles in 5 days. Apache rode great.
Only an occasional 'I wanna wook' and didn't take a dump in the car. It
was crowded and I had to block him in the back seat or he would have
eaten the gearshift. There were only two notable events along the way.
I spent the evening and night in Bandera, TX north of San Antonio. I
always wanted to go there because, as most of you know, next to Dylan, I
think Robert Earl Keen is the best singer/songwriter/humorist around.
Howard Livingston is pretty damn good too. Anyway it is the basis for
his songs, 'Down on Main Street' and 'Feelin' Good Again'. Apache and I
had chicken fried steak and jalapenos at the Old Spanish Trail
restaurant and found a dog-friendly hotel on the Guadalupe River. Man,
the hotels here are not only dog-friendly, they are also
horse-friendly. There are enough horse turds on main street to cause
the environmental nuts to declare Bandera the next Chernobyl because of
the methane released. I hope Al Gore or Michael Moore doesn't read this
or there would be movie cameras all over the place documenting that
horses and cows have caused global warming. The veg-heads would then
declare we should only eat veggies and to spade or neuter all horses and
cows. The good citizens of Bandera would probably shoot their human
scurvy asses since 99% of the citizens of the Great State of Texas
pack.
I also stopped by the Border Patrol south of Las Cruces, NM. My first
mistake was to answer 'Si' when he asked if I was a US Citizen. Then
the Man saw the 'wolf' in the back seat and asked what it was doing
there. I explained "Senior, it a Siberian Husky." (second mistake).
Then he asked why I pulled off the road about 100 yards from the
checkpoint while I was in traffic. I answered truthfully and in 100%
English this time, "I was cleaning the love bugs off my windshield." I
don't know if they use the term lovebugs in NM, but you Floridians know
what I mean. Drive on the Florida TPK at the wrong time of the year and
they have orgies in the middle of the road and get their best and
last climax by smashing against your windshield at 80MPH. Quite a
mess. Anyway, at that point the officer said to himself, Self, this
guy is either a druggie or a frickin' idiot.. He then said,
“License, registration, and insurance please. Pull the car over there
next to the trailer, and step out of the car.” I said, "Gracias" (third
mistake).
Meanwhile Apache was enjoying all this with his head out the rear
driver's side window, his tongue hanging out, staring at the officer,
saying 'I wannna wook', The officer told me to shut the 'wolf' up. I
told him that it was a dog, not a wolf and didn't bark, that it talked,
and was simply saying, "I want to walk." (fourth mistake). He
obviously assumed I was on drugs. Well, since retirement, I have caught
a severe case of Keys Disease (less the drug portion.) I do have an
affinity for Beefeater's gin, though. Hence, the nickname Beefeater,
given to me by my esteemed friend Charlie Planet, the poet-laureate and
resident philosopher of the Keys. Nowadays, unlike my
before-retirement-in-Paradise life when I wore three-piece suits, I look
like a Texas Conch with a slight resemblance to Willie Nelson or Sam
Elliott. I prefer Sam Elliott because I haven't “outlived my dick” yet
(reference Willie's statement on his 75th birthday) but mirrors do lie.
So I pulled my car over by the trailer, turned it off and got out. The
officer was on his radio (walkie-talkie) saying something. The door to
the trailer opened and out came two more Border Patrol with dogs.
That's right, dogs. Well, now Apache was going nuts. Other dogs! He
was going to have some playmates. The 'I wanna wook' shifted to 'I
wanna wun and pwaaaaaaaaay". The sniffer dogs just stared and growled.
I explained to the new officers that Apache talked and they just stared
at me. One reminded me of the flat-topped rapper Ice-Cube, while the
other looked like Charlie Possum with shoes on. No sense of humor in
these boys. One of them said, "Up against the car and spread your
legs." If I had been in the Keys and heard this, I would have started
running like a bat out of hell. However, my mind heard David Allen Coe
singing, "Up Against the Wall You Red-Neck Mother." I much prefer David
Allen Coe to this alternative.
It was then I realized that I was about to make my fifth and biggest
mistake. I was packing. Not a gun. I don't even own a gun, but I
always carry a knife. A locking blade, 5 1/2 inche long, stainless
Rostfri Green Beret, made in the US (none of that Chinese or
Korean manufactured stuff for me. I'm a right-wing republican. I just
happen to look like a left-wing dope-smoking hippie. Always confuses
the left-wing whackos because I can infiltrate them with ease.) It was
a requirement to carry a knife on my previous job (before retirement) as
a safety measure and a tool. Those that know me will understand. A
gun! I won't even get near a gun. I couldn't hit the broad side of a
barn. I'm blind as a bat. Now my wife, that's a different issue. She
packs and could pick a no-seeum off your balls at 40 yards and not draw
blood. But I digress.
To make a long story short. While I was spread eagled, they take the
knife and handcuff me and proceed to let the dogs sniff the car. They
take the 'wolf' out of the back seat (I had his leash already on in
preparation for a 'wook' because I knew his bladder was full. I was
afraid they would be rough with him but they weren't. Apache is a very
friendly dog and immediately made friends with the Border Patrol and
their drug-sniffing dogs. I was afraid he would piss on the Border
Patrolmen's legs or shoes (I'll leave that to Chevy Chase movies - I
would be exaggerating if I said he did and then you would doubt the
veracity of this diatribic saga.)
Anyway, 2 hours later, after a 'thorough' search of the car and of my
lap top (they even wore prophylactic gloves while checking everything
out), Apache and I were released unharmed. They even gave him dog
treats and learned to talk to him.
When we finally arrived in Sierra Vista, I downed a few Beefs, listened
to the 'Smokin' Song by Howard and Mile-Marker 24, and crashed for 12
hours. The weather the first 4 days here was great. 80 degrees, no
humidity, no no-seeums or mosquitoes, no hurricanes, no Iguana shit all
over the yard of our brand new house. I'd been told to worry about dust
devils, rattlesnakes and mountain lions, though. Not me. After going
through 6 hurricanes in the Keys, nothing Mother Nature conjures up can
hurt me. Not me. I'm tough and battle-hardened against Mother Nature.
It is the fifth day and I'm freezing my ass off. We are in the Huachuca
Mountain Range just 6 miles north of the Mexican border. A cold front
is attacking us and Apache loves it. Not me. I still can't find my
shoes (they are packed in a box somewhere. Mucho boxes to unpack to
find them) so I'm wearing flip flops and my toes feel like icicles. It
will warm up come spring though. They recorded 113 degrees here last
summer. It has never been above 100 in the Keys.
I'm starting to miss Paradise and the social hour at the KOA
already. Tell Lee-Lee, Richie, Kenny, Bill and the rest of the gang
that The Beef said hello. |

[No Bid
Contracts] When Dennis Ward showed up at the recent county
commission meeting and scolded Commissioner DiGennaro, Ward sorely
missed his opportunity to do his job. Why did he not object when Mayor
Neugent ram-rodded the waste management contract through over the
objections of residents, the county administrator, and Commission
DiGennaro? The contract recommended by DiGennaro would have cost the
taxpayers zero. That contract that Neugent renewed –without bid – cost
the residents an immediate 35 percent increase in their trash bills!
Ward is right
that no-bid needs to stop – it is unethical and possibly illegal. If
Ward is serious about rooting out public corruption on all levels of
Monroe County, then he must look at all actions of the Board and not
single out one commissioner. Ward’s recent action against DiGennaro
makes me question Ward’s integrity, judgment, and motive for targeting
one commissioner when other commissioners have committed far greater
offensives and breaches of honest public service. Ward needs to get
serious and examine all violations of corruption, no-bid awards,
violation of public trust, etc, but his recent actions makes me wonder
if he is just playing politics again because of the upcoming 2010 county
commission elections. As far as I’m concerned, DiGennaro has been on
the right side of voting fairly for the taxpayers, which certainly
cannot be said for the Board as a whole. |

game they love and an opportunity to advance their football careers to
the next level (i.e.: Indoor Football League, Europe, College, Arena,
UFL, or Possibly NFL).
We will be

[Planning
Position Refused] I certainly like Sal’s response on this issue.
Some folks see a conspiracy everywhere they look or want to rule the
world. This original writer is paranoid, has too much time on her
hands, and is plain uninformed. It is the County Administrator’s job is
to interview and recommend department level candidates to the Board of
County Commissioners. Furthermore, the county administrator had a
review committee so the applicants had objective scrutiny other than
just the county administrator. The Commissioners should stop
micro-managing employees and let them do their jobs. It would be great
if the commissioners spent their time doing their job – setting good
public policy.
Commissioner No (aka Smurphy) and Commissioner Look-At-Me (aka
Wigington) should keep their mouths shut in public. One embarrassing
event of public stupidity and unprofessional conduct by this Board can
make any sane person refuse a job offer. The candidate was a smart man
to change his mind. I pity the next fool. ~mpalmer90@live.com |

What we have here and in all aspects already working (against us) is an
organized communism. They take the money from the rich and give it the
poor (the welfarers, rafters and Indians). You buy a house and you

[From
the Right]
I know that a lot of CT fans want to believe that I am
writing fiction in my postings about the Obama phenomena. But honestly,
nobody could make up this stuff up. I truly wish it was fiction. For
example: Have you noticed how his handlers morph the English language to
mask the facts of so many Obama agenda issues. One of the early and most
egregious examples is the term “Global Warming”. For years our liberal
progressive pals have run around screaming and tearing their hair that the
world is on the verge of becoming a huge quick light charcoal briquette.
And it’s all your fault for emitting CO2. Well the evidence is growing
toward being overwhelming that the world is actually cooling. The hottest it
ever got was 1998, and it’s been getting cooler ever since. So they have
changed the name to “Global Climate Change”. Voila! Then there’s the “War
on Terror”. Mr. Obama’s left wing base has decided that there should be no
war on terror, only freedom fighters in conflict with the evil imperialistic
capitalist racists (you devil, that’s you and me.) Our L/Px2 (long playing,
liberal/progressive) pals have cured the problem by renaming it. Honest to
God, I couldn’t make this up; they renamed it “Overseas Contingency
Operation.” Voila! Bye-bye war, Mr. Obama has solved you, simply by
banishing your name. Next, let’s take a look at “Terrorist attack”. That
term presents the freedom fighters in a decidedly negative fashion. Hence it
must be changed to: “Man Caused Disaster”. Voila! Yet another masterpiece of
linguistic lunacy from our L/P/x2 pals. Now I certainly feel all warm and
fuzzy about the Muslim term “Jihad”. Just yesterday we witnessed the
banishment of yet another term that has been identified as a threat to the
Obama agenda. The term “Public Option” has been stricken from the left wing
lexicon, its banished, gone. That was the term given to a really odious
part of the Obamacare socialized medicine scheme that would rob us of the
right to have private health insurance. Just like all of the other Obama
word camouflage, the danger of the issue still exists; L/Px2 only tries to
hide it in a cloak of confusion. The new L/Px2 term is: “Consumer Option”. I
think that the Obama minions have seen Harry Potter’s cloak of invisibility
scenes too many times.
(Part II) Congrats
to the poster who accurately recited the pro public choice option poll that
was in The Huffington Post. The poll was conducted by MSNBC. I was unable
to find the internals of the poll. But it is worth noting that NBC, The
Huffington Post, and MSNBC are ardent supporters of Mr. Obama. We don’t know
if the data in the aforementioned poll was taken from ACORN staff members,
Democrat poll watchers, or kids on the block. I could find no record of the
actual questions asked. The validity of any poll rests on the wording of
questions and the demographics of those polled. Rasmussen recently did a
similar poll, he polls only likely voters. He found a relatively similar
result as the MSNBC poll, but he dug further and learned that of those
polled, 63% demanded a guarantee that no would be forced to change their
existing plan if Obamacare passes. He found that 57% of voters nationwide
believe it will raise the cost of health care, and 53% believe the quality
of care will get worse. That’s part of the reason that only 45% support
Obamacare. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that
51% are opposed It’s very interesting that other polling released last week
showed that 49% would rather see no health care legislation passed this year
than see the current bill become law. I personally believe that what we have
seen so far will poison our economy for decades, will diminish the quality
of care for all, and will cost each one of us more for our health care.
Therefore, no matter what the polls say, I have no choice but to say, “No”.
(Part III) Special
to yesterday’s poster who really is pissed at me. You are absolutely right;
I know nothing about you or your not inconsequential accomplishments.
Perhaps I was too critical. Your history sounds quite impressive, an
interesting mix of wage slave and employer. All the more reason for me to
marvel at your antagonism for those who prosper. You seem to be committed to
the notion that big business and big investors are evil and should be
punished. And still you seem to be quite proud of the prosperous businesses
that you have developed. Please tell your CT audience: Were the businesses
started without an investment? Do you make a profit from the labor of your
employees? Do you pay your employees on what you feel their labor is worth,
or do permit them to set their own pay on the basis of each employee’s
personal notion of “fairness”? Do you give your employees raises when they
demand them? Can it be that you are exploiting your employees? Can we
assume that your business was not your idea but that your employees had the
idea for your business and that it is their money at risk if that business
fails? Do you believe that your employees are the biggest reason for your
flourishing business? Or perhaps do you have some pride in your management
skills? Do you pay your employees more than you take out of the business? Do
you believe that your business could flourish without you? My Deer Friend
the only difference between you and big business is scale. Can you admit
that you are in business to make money for you, and you are trying to make
all the money you can make? The fact is that this country was built by big
business, with big investment, spending big money and making big profits.
The worker bees, the wage slaves, like me, were exploited. That’s just a
fact of history. And that’s all it is, a factoid of history. Do the workers
that were employed by these giant enterprises deserve a large slice of the
credit? Of course they do, but without big people thinking big thoughts,
taking big risks with big money, none of it could have happened. We are who
we are and what we are because of profit. We are the Nation that every other
nation admires or envies. Our current pain can be traced to a certain set of
individuals who have an incredible hunger for power and cash. The proximate
cause was the corruption of public policy by the leadership of Fannie Mae,
Freddie Mac, and a set of politicians who refused to pass legislation to
protect the American public from fiscal predators even after having been
warned of the danger. The names of Franklin Raines, Chris Dodd, Barney
Frank, Chuck Schumer, and a host of others spring to mind. Please suffer me
just a couple more questions. You seemed to have pride in your claim to
have accumulated some measure of wealth. Do you feel guilty about profiting
on the labor of others, if so, why haven’t you given your wealth to your
exploited employees? Do you suppose that you may be just a tad
hypocritical? So, was I too critical? Nah. |

[Good fishing]
I remember when there was fish like this just off Key
West. |
|
[New City Hall] This is the tropics. We should
quit trying to make it into something it isn't. Instead of building
another fully AC'd wildly expensive ($18,000,000 plus cost over-runs)
Taj Mahal structure like the airport for a Key West city hall we should
make do with a big tiki hut. |
|
[Polls]
NBC/WSJ Poll October 27, 2009 "Do you think it is important to give
Americans a choice of a public option or private plans?" 45% extremely
important, 27% quite important. 72% support it. This is the
highest percentage since the beginning of the debate. I guess all the
tea party stuff was great TV news, but very short lived. So why in the
world do the Republicans continue to say no to everything? In a
Democracy, don't we vote for our representatives to represent our wishes
and not theirs? |

[A
"line" of pot] Thanks for the drug lesson, Cheech. I figured most
readers, even pot heads, would stay with me when I made the turn. Next
time I try to make an argument and lump pot in with cocaine, because
they’re both so easy to score in the Keys and users of both like to call
them victimless, I’ll cripple it and slow it down so you can read each
word on its own. There are few people more self-righteous than those who
call their obsession and compulsion to escape reality a freedom of
choice issue. How ironic since addiction, also known as daily use,
is really just a prison without bars. You are the victim. I know you.
I’ve been you and I always used the same arguments you did until they
didn’t work anymore. And by the way, I am thinking for myself
now--that’s the whole point. I don’t regret one thing about all the time
I wasted chasing the first high for 30 years except for the quarter
million dollars or so I spent to alleviate my disc pain or arthritis or
leg cramps or whatever (insert excuse here) or the mental anguish of
being so damn unique and misunderstood. Non narcotic Toradol and a good
cognitive behaviour therapist would have been a lot cheaper. I’m not
judging, mind you. I wouldn’t know what I know now if I didn’t do what I
did then. |

[Grant Writer] The administrator is very qualified to be a waste
water administrator or a division director. As a County Administrator
he still has much to learn, especially working with so many women. So
the answer is that, as someone who in the past has supervised employees,
the Administrator knows how clickish and petty women can be, but he does
not know how to handle it without stirring the Bubba factor, etc. So,
he looks the other way and business continues as usual. It is not a
change we can believe in.
Does the BOCC know these things? It is not the BOCC's job to micro
manage the Administrator, but in some instances they do, while ignoring
some of the issues that they should really question him on. The
Administrator on the other hand should allow his directors, including
the HR director, to assume more responsibility in front of the BOCC.
Then, if and when needed, he should step in as
support/reinforcement/voice of reason/adversary/the cavalry. Sadly, on
some issues he is too hands-on and on the issues that he should be
hands-on he isn't. Go figure. |

[Chicken
shit at Winn Dixie] You must be shitting me! The place is a complete
shit house. They have way too much bug shit. I think that is total
bullshit. I am tired of reading all this horseshit. It’s making me go
bat shit. I’m beginning to feel like dog shit. It could make me go ape
shit. It’s getting deeper than horse shit. It’s like eating rat shit.
Way too much pig shit. The baby shit is starting to stink. I might just
get shit-faced. It could turn me into shit-for-brains from reading all
this human shit. The only shit missing is deer shit and iguana shit. |

[Getting pot] 'Due
to the laws, I can't get what would benefit me on a regular basis'
I find that hard to believe. I don't smoke, but I know several people
who do it on a daily basis and have no trouble finding weed. I've never
heard any of them say "damn, I can't find any pot this week. I guess
I'll have to do without it". If you want to advocate legalizing pot,
leave that out of your argument. |
|
[Spam
Primer] Any time you see an E-Mail that says "Forward this on
to 10 (or however many) of your friends, sign this petition, or you'll
get bad luck, good luck, you'll see something funny on your screen after
you send it, or whatever, it almost always has an email
tracker program attached that tracks the cookies and emails of those
folks you forward to.
The host sender is getting a copy each time it gets forwarded and then
is able to get lists of active email addresses to use
in spam emails, or sell to other spammers. Even when you get
emails that demand you send the email on "if you're
not ashamed of Jesus" that's email tracking and they're playing on your
conscience.
These people don't care how they get your email addresses, just as long
as they get them. Emails that talk about a missing child or a child
with an incurable disease "How would you feel if that was your child"
are email tracking. Ignore them and don't participate. |

[Why

YouTube a friend recently shared with me about when it comes to talking

This is not anti-police at all, but it is vital information for dealing
with them.

license to drive and fly.
The time required for the
transition from plane to car takes less than 30 seconds. Vehicle speed
185 km/hour, range is 724 km on highways. Vehicle is fueled with
gasoline, and the price of the car is expected to be around $200,000.
The first shipment will be in 2011.

[Grass] The only reason Marijuana is not legal is
because the IRS cannot control the taxing of it. It is a weed and people
can grow it anywhere. Are the drug companies working on separating the
chemicals that do the medical benefits from weed? If so, then only the
drug companies would control the stuff. |

[Stealing checks from mail box] I think he meant they're stealing

with regular theft. Those checks can be 'laundered' and rewritten to
the thief for any amount they care to fill in. |

[To the 1/4 truth guy] I usually try to skim over
your rant, however today you took a stab at me because I said that the
working class is what built this nation and that the real cause of the
economic downturn were the large cooperate profits and the corporations
manipulating the rules. First of all you don't have a clue about me. I
own a very successful business and have worked my way through life to
this point understanding that it is not the businesses, corporations or
investors that makes this country great, it is the people. I am older
and have worked in various corporate, insurance, banking and blue collar
jobs, and have also owned and operated several successful businesses.
You don't have a clue as to the perspective I have about these
industries. I have worked for everything I have. I have lived in the
Keys for many years all on what I have earned personally.
You have far too much time on your hands to rant, little
intelligence on the facts and a waste of time for everyone who reads
your quarter truths. You sound like a bean counter that never had a real
job creating anything. You think you're well educated because of the
books you have read. Maybe you're not reading anything that's credible.
You don't have to go that far back in history to see how
the concentration of wealth to the few at the top has shrunk the ability
of the middle class to purchase goods and services. The middle class
spends money because they have too. I am a capitalist; I just think that
the greed has taken control and made it harder for everyone to exist. |
|
[It's
Just a Catfish] For all those crazy guys who go 'noodling' for
catfish and stick their arms down the fish's throat. This would be all
the catfish you can eat. Each year a few people were drowning or
disappearing mysteriously in Huadu's Furong Reservoir. It was not until
recently, when the son of a government official went swimming in the
reservoir and was drowned, that the secret was revealed.
It is a 3 meter long man-eating catfish whose head alone is 1 meter
wide. After cutting up the catfish, people were surprised to find the
remains of another man inside. Swimming in the reservoir is now
forbidden because it is feared another similar man-eating catfish is
still lurking in the waters. |

[Do County employees really need the taxpayers to pay for a party]
Yes they do since most of the non-union employees have not seen a raise
in 3 years. "The taxpayers are already paying for an additional 4
vacations days for all the non-union employees (the ones who get to sit
in air-conditioned offices.)" We taxpayers are not giving these
employees anything, they are earning it. They are always there when we
call with our moronic questions, because we don't bother to listen or
read. Look around, County employees are everywhere solving our problems
and screw-ups, and most of us never even say a simple thanks or even
acknowledge them. If Monroe County cuts back on their hours and services
I'm sure that the person who posted those comments would be the first
one having a heart attack and ringing the Mayor's phone off the hook. |
|
[Pot
Poll] I believe it’s time for another serious contest/poll from the
readers and posters of the CT. A suggestion for the title of this forum:
Pot – a dive into the shitter or finally a reason not to give a crap
about anything not foodstuff. The rules will be simple: one sentence,
pro or con.
Because I know this should bring out the all the
outrageous fringe of the CT we should put a call out to our old favorite
and 12 step expert
Kander Bluff with LA as a judge and unbiased referee.
The only exclusion is the Right-Wing guy -- you think his

[Marijuana]
I have smoked most of my adult life. I quit when I had to deal with
mandatory testing from a court order. I don't think it is the best thing
in this world; however my grandmother was in severe pain to the point of
not being able to sleep. She was on meds from her doctor to relieve her
pain, but they didn't work. I talked her into trying marijuana baked
goods and she was able to sleep almost the whole night. She was against
any illegal drugs as are most people, but at the age of 70 she gave it a
try and was very comfortable and happy during her final days. So to all
that think marijuana is a drug for losers think again. |

We need to leave Afghanistan tonight and let the
Arabs hate someone else. It won’t take long before they jihad somebody
else. Will there be a power vacuum? Yes, but who cares. Some warlords
will take over with a heavy hand (the only thing Arabs understand) like
they have for 5000 years. The British couldn’t do it, the Russkies
couldn’t do it and we cant do it. Let’s leave now and protect our own
borders, not some Arab’s border. Quit warring us into unbelievable debt
and killing our best soldiers and citizens (almost 5000).

[Atheist
Holy Day] In Florida, an atheist created a case against Easter and
Passover. He hired an attorney to bring a discrimination case against
Christians, Jews and observances of their holy days.
The argument was that it was unfair that atheists had no such recognized
days. The case was brought before a judge. After listening to the
passionate presentation by the lawyer, the judge banged his gavel
declaring, "Case dismissed!"
The lawyer immediately stood objecting to the ruling saying, "Your
honor, how can you possibly dismiss this case? The Christians have
Christmas, Easter and others. The Jews have Passover, Yom Kippur and
Hanukkah, yet my client and all other atheists have no such holidays."
The judge leaned forward in his chair saying, "But you do. Your client,
counsel, is woefully ignorant." The lawyer said, "Your Honor, we are
unaware of any special observance or holiday for atheists." The judge
said, "The calendar says April 1st is April Fools Day. Psalm 14:1
states, 'The fool says in his heart, there is no God.' Thus, it is the
opinion of this court, that if your client says there is no God, then he
is a fool. Therefore, April 1st is his day. Court is adjourned.
You’ve got to love a judge that knows his scripture! |

Impeach Obama. |

It’s interesting that those
terrible medical insurance companies that the Obama administration is
attempting to demonize for gouging all us regular folks actually rank
35th of 50 industries as far as their margin of profit (less than 3%). |

[Afghanistan Elections] Why would you want Obama
to commit troops to Afghanistan before knowing who their President will
even be? We already paid for snap decisions with over 3500 American
troops being killed for what turned out to be lies. Let the election of
the free people of Afghanistan have a say in there own country’s future.
I applaud the Euro countries coming back in to help with the war effort.
They are waiting out the elections to determine how many troops they
will send back. Why would we hurry this process when the Euros will send
more troops putting less American troops in harms way. Great decision,
Mr. President. I’m glad I voted for you. Elect the leader of Afghanistan
first then decide. Don’t do it bass ackwards. That’s this veteran’s

[Bosnia and
Muslims] Most of us aren't aware of the life and death predicament
others face and cannot allow ourselves to resort to pat answers to
pernicious problems unless we dig deeper to educate ourselves.
Let us
just suppose for the sake of argument that Cubans wanted to secede from
Monroe County, as their population exceeded that of snowbirds and wanted
to link the Lower Keys to Cuba. In the local Cuban city slickers’ view
they have more children, need more land and don't like being repressed
by snowbirds. The problem is, snowbirds own 2/3 of the real estate and
take a dim view of relinquishing territory to those whose allegiance is
elsewhere. After Cubans take potshots at snowbirds and have their
friends from Cuba cut a few heads, snowbirds, who don't have the numbers
but have bigger guns, rolled out their artillery and sprayed counter
battery fire on perpetrators hiding behind churches, hospitals and
schools while CNN’s Christiana Amanpour decried the fate of the poor
Cubans.
That, my
friends, was the predicament Bosnian Serbs faced during a local uprising
by Slavic Muslims (Mostly Serbs who had converted to Islam during the 5
century Ottoman invasion). Karadzic is still a hero to them as he,
along with Gen Mladic, stood up to the local intifada. After all,
Izetbegovic, the Muslim leader, openly boasted of Sarajevo being the
"New Jerusalem." Srebrenica had been declared a demilitarized zone by
the UN and yet local Muslims used it (along with other enclaves) to
establish their military base camps and perform nightly forays against
adjoining Serb communities. It also was being used as a corridor to
link Sarajevo to other Muslim majority areas, such as the Sandzak and
Albania-Kosovo. Our current NSC Chairman, Gen Jim Jones, is fully
cognizant of those factoids, especially since he was in charge of
dropping humanitarian goods to Muslims, most of which ended up feeding
the Muslim separatist army in Bosnia (Operation Provide Promise). That
is the legacy of the Clintonites and they're back into the swing of
things. So much for the "Nobody died when Clinton lied" BS. God help us!

[From the Right]
The decision has been more than two years in the making.
The decision was forged on the campaign trail and, behind closed doors
in DC. You and I have too much money. You and all of our Deer Friends
are just too damned prosperous. Our leaders in D.C. must get on with the
business of redistribution of wealth. The evidence is in, and it’s
solid. We don’t spend enough on electricity. Mr. Obama has made the
decision that in order to be in harmony with the UN and the rest of the
world, we must pass his Cap and Trade Plan. It is a truly ingenious
method of ridding ourselves of any advantage that we might have in
global affairs. It will be truly consciousness expanding and liberating
to be on a level global playing field with nations such as Slovenia.
Plus, it will take more money away from you greedy capitalists of BPK
and Ramrod, and all of you fat cat CT fans. We have a quick glimpse of
Mr. Obama’s genius in a San Francisco Chronicle interview from January
2008 wherein he told the interviewer: “under my plan of a cap and trade
system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket…even regardless of
what I say about whether coal is good or bad.” Mr. Obama’s plan is
cosmic in its even handed manner of taking treasure from its owners. The
cost of electricity will go up the same no matter if you are on Social
Security or you lunch at Little Palm. More pure Obama genius is to be
found in Obamacare. In addition to cutting Medicare benefits, and
raising the costs of private health insurance, it will raise taxes on
all but the most poverty stricken while reducing the quality of health
care to all. What could be more fair, what could be more
“redistributive”?
(Part II) Mr.
Obama did a very good thing when he adopted the Bush plan in Iraq and
Afghanistan. That was an act of political bravery. Mr. Obama did a very
good thing when he hand picked Gen. McChrystal to be his personal
commander of the Afghanistan effort. Mr. Obama has done the right thing
in bolstering the theater forces on several occasions. Mr. Obama was
perfectly right when he identified the Afghan war as the “"central front
on terror." Mr. Obama is dishonoring all that he has done by refusing to
decide whether to honor Gen McChrystal’s urgent request for more troops.
Our military loved ones are grave risk while Mr. Obama flits from
political event to political event like a glib butterfly. He has
frittered away months and scores of American lives. He is without honor
or shame. |

[Medical
Marijuana] I am a person who could really benefit if medical
marijuana were made available. Another benefit would be a cost savings
for the drugs that I have to take in order to eat, treat nausea and deal
with chronic pain and fatigue.
The meds
that I get on a monthly basis to address some of my maladies cost over
$1500 a month. I am an AIDS patient, and I fill 20 prescriptions a
month. If I could smoke marijuana I could eliminate the need for some
of these drugs and their side affects and the costs associated with
them. My quality of life would be better with pot being available. I
know I've tried it and found that it helps a great deal.
Due to
the laws, I can't get what would benefit me on a regular basis, and the
drug companies continue to rake in the dough. I say legalize medical
marijuana, not only for treatment, but also to cut the cost of treating
this chronic disease. I do not advocate the legalization of pot for
recreational use. I prefer strict guidelines for doctors writing
prescriptions, as well as oversight of the places selling pot.
I am not
looking for a high, but rather some relief. All of the meds that I now
have to take have side affects which cause more problems--creating a
need for another prescription, and so on, and so on. I have friends that
are long-term pot smokers, and I see no ill affects in them. I can't
begin to count the problems caused by "approved" drugs. Some of these
drugs have no studies to back up the affects they will have in the long
run. I am a guinea pig, a lab rat. Call it what you will.
I hope that legal will be available soon. I am sure that
patients with cancer, MS, AIDS and other illnesses could benefit from
the relief given with pot smoking. |

[Onions
for collecting the flu virus] In 1919 when the flu killed 40
million people there was this doctor that visited many farmers to see
if he could help them combat the flu. Many of the farmers and their
families had contracted it and died. The doctor came upon this one
farmer and to his surprise, everyone was very healthy. When the doctor
asked what the farmer was doing that was different, the wife replied
that she had placed an unpeeled onion in a dish in the rooms of the
home.
The doctor couldn't believe it and asked if he could have
one of the onions and placed it under the microscope. She gave him one
and when he scoped it, he did find the flu virus in the onion. It
absorbed the virus, keeping the family healthy.
I heard this story from my hairdresser in AZ. She said
that several years ago many of her employees were coming down with the
flu and so were many of her customers. The next year she placed several
bowls with onions around her shop. To her surprise, none of her staff
got sick. It must work.
The moral of the story is, buy some onions and place them
in bowls around your home. If you work at a desk, place one or two in
your office or under your desk or even on top somewhere. Try it and see
what happens. We did it last year and we never got the flu. If this
helps you and your loved ones from getting sick, all the better. If you
do get the flu, it just might be a mild case. Whatever, what have you
to lose? Just a few bucks on onions. |

In
honor of the 44th President of the United States , Baskin-Robbins Ice
Cream has introduced a new flavor: " Barocky Road ." Barocky Road is
a blend of half vanilla, half chocolate, and surrounded by nuts and
flakes. The vanilla portion of the mix is not openly advertised and
usually denied as an ingredient. The nuts and flakes are all very bitter
and hard to swallow. The cost is $100.00 per scoop.
When purchased it will be presented to you in a large beautiful cone,
but then the ice cream is taken away and given to the person in line
behind you. You are left with an empty wallet and no change, holding an
empty cone with no hope of getting any ice cream. Are you stimulated? |

21 Steps to Become a Democrat
Anyone can be a Democrat. Just quit thinking and vote that way.
If you want to be a GOOD Democrat, however, there are some prerequisites
you must have first.
1. You have to believe the AIDS virus is spread by a lack of federal
funding and Republicans.
2. You have to believe that the same teacher who can't teach 4th graders
how to read is somehow qualified to teach
those same kids about sex.
3. You have to believe that guns, in the hands of law-abiding Americans,
are more of a threat than U.S. nuclear
weapons technology, in the hands of Muslims.
4. You have to believe that there was no art before Federal funding.
5. You have to believe that global temperatures are less affected by
cyclical, documented changes in the earth's
climate, and more affected by yuppies driving SUVs and peasant farts'!
6. You have to believe that gender roles are artificial but being
homosexual is natural.
7. You have to be against abortion but believe in free will.
8. You have to believe that businesses create oppression and governments
create prosperity with the MIC.
9. You have to believe that hunters don't care about nature, but farmers
are activists..
10. You have to believe that self-esteem is more important than actually
doing something to earn it.
11. You have to believe the military, not corrupt politicians and world
bankers, start wars.
12. You have to believe the NRA is bad, because it supports certain
parts of the Constitution, while the ACLU is good, because it supports
certain parts of the Constitution.
13. You have to believe that taxes are too low, but ATM fees are too
high.
14. You have to believe that Margaret Sanger and Gloria Steinem are more
important to American history than Thomas Jefferson, General Robert E.
Lee or Thomas Edison.
15. You have to believe that standardized tests are racist, but racial
quotas and set-asides aren't.
16. You have to believe Hillary Clinton is really a lady in drag.
17. You have to believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked
anywhere, is because the right people haven't been in charge.
18. You have to believe Republicans telling the truth belong in jail,
but a illegal alien belongs in the White House and you would vote him
back in there in a New York minute if he was white.
19. You have to believe that homosexual parades displaying drag,
transvestites and bestiality should be constitutionally protected and
manger scenes at Christmas should be illegal.
20. You have to believe that illegal Democratic Party funding by the
Chinese is somehow in the best interest of the United States.
21. You have to believe that the minorities who protest against prayer
(myths) and saluting the fag flag in school have far more rights than
the majority who believe in Dog and country and want these values to be
instilled in our brainwashed young children.
22. You must believe the Republican and Democrat Parties are about to
have another Civil War, but only after they get permission from the NWO.
23. You believe sleeping in a dark wet closet while sucking your thumb
is politically correct! |

friends who visit my house have no idea it exists. I grow four plants,
45 day cycles are year. I don't sell it and only use it for personal
consumption. I have a broken back and inoperable herniated discs and a
replacement femur and hip from several motorcycle wrecks. I smoke pot in
my house for my mind, body and soul and never get behind the wheel while
I’m under the influence. I own and operate a small business and have
employed close to 15 people for the last twenty years. Now please
explain to me again (remember I smoke pot so I'm slow) who the "victims"
are in this scenario? I propose the only victims are the people sitting
in jail for pot possession. Stop believing all the government
propaganda and try to think for yourself. |

cisterns in use it seems strange that there haven’t been more
complaints.

[Mail
Box Theft] To the person who is complaining about having checks and
mail stolen from their box here are some suggestions. However it looks
like you enjoy complaining more than you care about your mail. If you
can't get your lazy butt out to the mailbox right after the mail is
delivered, you are never going to be able to get your gun and do
anything before the culprits are long gone. That is probably a good
thing as you will go to jail for shooting someone for stealing mail.
In this day and age, nobody should have checks coming to
an unsecured mailbox. Ever hear of direct deposit? Try it. Rent a post
office box or a mail box at the UPS Store or a similar place. Build or
purchase a heavy duty mailbox that needs a key to get the mail out. Hook
up a switch to the box and have a bell inside that rings inside your
house when the mailbox door is opened. You could use a wireless doorbell
too. Don't let the mail sit in your cheap ass mailbox; promptly take it
out after it is delivered. |

[Planning Position Refused]
“The person who refused the position was under the impression that he
would be able to come to Monroe County and hire staff.” If that is
the case then the county administrator really did a terrible job of
interviewing and briefing this guy about the job, the BOCC
penchants, and life as a Monroe County employee. Or else, the county
administrator was incredibly crafty and manipulative to let this guy run
the gauntlet, knowing he (the person) would bail or fall out, so he
(the County administrator) could get to the next candidate, who he also
wanted.
Reality check lesson learned: BOCC, interview the candidates for
yourselves before you vote. If you do not you abdicate one of your
primary responsibilities. |

why one person can not do both grant writing and grant administration.”
Does the county administrator know these things? Does the BOCC know
these things?
When reading on CT last month about this person and Budget Director and
Grant Administrator, it appeared to be sour grapes from the person. Now
it looks like there really was truth behind what the person was
posting.
As to one person doing both grant writing and grant administration,
yes, you are 100% correct. Sadly though, it appears that there's a
little click-ism and job protection and covering each other's behinds
going on in the County OMB Dept. |

Writing, much like painting
Is another form of art
Though no colors fill the page
My words still move the heart
No swirls of blue and green

Just words that can conjure paradises
And invoke deeper feelings when read
No layed out visions of sunsets and moons
Or gardens and kingdoms that once were
Yet my words written on a page before you
Will captivate your mind for sure
My words can paint a picture
Just as well as any brush can do
I can create an escape with just a few words
Now show me, what about you? |

[From the right] Right now there are more persons
who self describe themselves as Conservative than there are persons who
self describe themselves as Liberal. The ratio is about 2-1. To me this
strongly suggests that the Conservative line of thought is a real power
in today’s USA regardless of party labels. That can be witnessed by the
plummeting approval rates for the President (unprecedented 10 days of
double digit negative approval). The Congress, and their liberal
initiatives fair no better, only 25% of us approve of their performance.
None of their ultra left initiatives enjoy 50+% approvals even though
the Democrats hold a bullet proof majority in both Houses. Today,
Democrats would lose 37% to 42% in a generic Congressional election.
Those same polls reveal that nearly ľ of likely Republican voters feel
that Republican Congress people have lost touch with their base.
Remember that if these angry likely voters are not entirely happy with
their elected officials, they are very unlikely to again vote for a
Democrat or sit out any election. They see the havoc that Mr. Obama has
wreaked on us because of just such a response to Mr. McCain. That should
be evident to all. Further, one need only simply witness the incredible
outpouring of Tea Party participants. As to the Dixiecrats, I am too
young to remember them, but I do know that they were penultimate
Democrats who were staunch supporters of segregation and a whole host of
Jim Crow legislation. The movement did die quickly and they quickly
re-joined the Democrat Party. The Democrat party warmly welcomed them
with open arms notwithstanding their overwhelmingly racist views and
history of Jim Crowe legislation. Your mention of Strom Thurman is very
interesting. You remember that he and his were warmly welcomed back into
the Democrat party where he quickly took a leadership role. Ultimately
he earned great respect from his Democrat colleagues by staging the
longest filibuster in History. That filibuster was in unsuccessful
opposition to the Republican Civil Rights Act of 1957. I do remember
that it was those same Dixiecrat/Democrats who unsuccessfully fought
against and filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights act. The 1964 Civil
Rights act was largely the work of the Republican Party. It was
ultimately signed by President LBJ. Today, the Conservative movement
seems to be driven by the overwhelming majority of Republican voters, I
think/hope that no party schism develops leading to separate parties, I
believe that we will simply see an cathartic reform of the Republican
party. I encourage you to keep whistling while approaching a grave yard,
if it makes you feel better.
(Part II)
A couple of yesterday’s postings were pretty overheated.
One guy, who sounded like he was all puffy red faced from being angry,
took off on the health insurance companies and anyone who makes any
serious money. He said that health insurance companies are the bad guys
in our current fix. Not so. I just read that the health care insurance
company’s profit margin is way less than the big majority of other
businesses. Insurance companies don’t set the prices that doctors
charge, or hospitals, or any health care business. All they do is pool
your money with a lot of other people’s money and later shell out to pay
your claims from that pool of money. The higher the prices they have to
pay for your claims, the more money you and I have to pay in to keep the
pool from drying up. Sure, they take a small profit from it, but its
profit that keeps our country running. Does this guy want the companies
to go bust and have all those workers out of jobs? Look, if our
government is serious about dropping the costs of health, they would
figure out a way to help the providers charge you and I a lot less.
The poster laid into investors. Without investors there would be no
businesses, no jobs, no new medicines, no new equipment to improve
businesses. Investors put their hard earned money out front to work and
to be at risk. To them, money is as much of a tool as a hammer is to a
carpenter. This guy sounds like he is really jealous of anyone who has
more than he does. He is really into the whole Democrat gig of being a
victim. What happened to pride in being self sufficient, why do so many
feel that they need Mommy government to take care of them? The poster
is obviously a strong supporter of Mr. Obama who has a religious
commitment to redistribution of wealth.. This is still America, so you
can believe whatever you want. Just stay the hell away from my puny
wealth. His posting sounds an awful lot like “from each according to his
ability, to each according to his need”. That slogan is a long standing
communist slogan from the 1840’s that was made famous by Karl Marx. |

were stolen out of a police car near Palm Villa and I heard them
shooting them near my house. This comes after kids were caught

I witnessed federal laws being broken when someone took 2 of the
very last bills of the month to be paid out of my mailbox on Sunday.
I am buying a gun. Parents beware. I spent the last three years with

I’ll get free room and board in jail at age 50. If they keep
stealing my payments I will not hesitate to shoot.
Parents, get the rules down in your home. I care not about your

[Why rush the healthcare bill] When Hillary tried to do
something some 16 years ago it went nowhere as many of the
politicians then did not think it was necessary. If you think
waiting 16 years is rushing it, then you are really in the slow
lane.
Anyone who thinks that private insurers are looking out for the best
interest of the people must really be either naive or just don't get
it. Do you think they are spending a million dollars a day lobbing
the politicians to protect your health? Not. That money is being
spent to protect the insurance company's profits. Wake up, they care
only about their bottom line not the health of the nation.
I would like to know how many of the people complaining that health
care reform is not necessary have had to purchase medical insurance
for themselves or family members lately? The cost is one issue, the
preexisting clauses is another and if, heaven forbid, you let you
insurance lapse and have to reapply, they look for any reason
not to write your policy.
We need to stop defending cooperate America and look out for the
working class of this great nation; the people who through their
sweat this nation was built. Abolishing the middle class through the
breaking of unions, sending jobs overseas, making cheaper
products, so that the stock holder makes more money, has left us
with a nation that cannot afford to consume. When wealth shifts so
dramatically and the concentration of it leaves the middle class,
and then too does the ability to consume by the largest class of
people responsible for driving our economy.
The people who produce nothing, the investors, should get the
smallest piece of the pie and the ones who work the hardest and
produce a tangible product or service should gain the most. Non
producers, the ones who gamble with our future, the speculators,
futures investors or large corporations and there stock holders who
manipulate the market for there bottom line are the problem. |

[Dixiecrat
Party] According to From the Right guy, conservative Republicans
are not happy with the direction that the Republican Party is going
and are looking for a rebirth of the party. I, and many others,
believe that a rebirth will not happen but a split of the Republican
Party will happen. That means all the right wing nuts can form
their own party, which also means that the Republican Party votes
will be split, leaving a significant advantage for the Democrats in
future elections. This would be great. I have a suggestion. Maybe
you could name your new party the Dixiecrats. Remember them?
In 1948 they split from the Democratic Party of the south and
formed their own ultra-conservative party, electing Thurman to run
as their candidate. The Ideology of that party was states’ rights
(limited federal govt.), social conservatism and racial
segregation. Sound familiar? They also followed many conspiracy
theories (the beginnings of the McCarthyism era of trying to find
all those "Communists" in the Congress). The only problem that I
can see is that the Dixiecrat Party was founded in 1948 and
dissolved in the same year. Thurman only received 39 electoral
votes. I hope your new party will last longer than that, but
history tells a different story. |

Rightie, I read you post yesterday. It was very thoughtful of
you to make all those assumptions about my post. Putting words in my
mouth and basically continuing the garbage that the new republican
party stands for. I meant none of what you said I did. When I wrote
my post I simply said what I meant then. I don't blame Republicans
for Democrat downfalls. We have problems in our party too. I’m not
trying to pick an argument or start a fight. I was pointing to the
obvious slander and outright lies toward our President and the
general public. If you, as a self-proclaimed loyal Republican
American who cares so deeply about our democracy and way of life,
can’t see the difference between open and honest debate without lies
and propaganda, you, sir, are nothing more than a hate monger who,
in my view, is more of a threat to the American way than the Taliban
are. At least we can recognize their agenda.
I don't understand that if your party has real issues other than
money to try and stop legislation that is a step toward a better
America why don’t they just engage in honest debate. We will get the
public option. One of the reasons is the Republican Party itself. I
don’t know or pretend to know if it's the right thing or not and I
believe both sides could have come up with a better bill if they
would have worked together. Now we will never know. |

If Commissioners really wanted to show their appreciation for all
your hard work, they would have given you a raise and a free
holiday celebration.
To the person who wrote that post, in your world, free for you
means the taxpayer pays.
Do County employees really need the taxpayers to pay $25 per
employee for a party? The taxpayers are already paying for an
additional 4 vacations days for all the non-union employees (the
ones who get to sit in air-conditioned offices.)
When do the private sector workers who provide the cash for County
employees' salaries, health insurance and benefits, and many who
work 50+ hours a week with 1/2 hour lunch, no health insurance, no
paid sick or vacation time, get their party?
What County commissioners should do is go to (at least for 18
months) a 32 hour week flex-time staggered schedule. Look around at
other south Florida municipalities. Layoffs and short work weeks are
everywhere. That trend is heading this way, but we’re a little slow
to implement it.
There are taxpayers now buying fewer groceries, cutting back on
medications and all non-life necessary expenses so they can pay
their taxes. What does your sarcasm say to them? |

[Woman in War] Men tend to be protective of females, whether
at home or in the field. That takes the focus away from the mission
thus making both more vulnerable. There's nothing wrong with women
being part of the camp followers, however. Unfortunately, these
days, they want equality, but males end up bearing the brunt as they
have to double up to offset the female inadequacy at co-equally
sharing the load. Field accommodations also are Spartan and women
require more than their male counterparts in addition to needing
separate quarters. There are also problems of subordination. When
the female isn't up to par, but outranks lower ranking males that
are a great deal worse than the dumb new lieutenant syndrome. It
just does not work well in true combat situations. If sectored into
female and male combat groups, each would and could be functional to
their own missions. |

The
Communists have taken over America. Swine flu was created by the
Democratic Party with plans to pump it onto every republican’s
office. Obama is sneaking nuclear weapons to the Chinese and
planning to help them take over the world. Obama’s not even an
American. In 2 more weeks Obama will be arresting anyone that
doesn’t wear an "Obama Rocks" t-shirt. Obama plans on having the
military plant tulips in Holland this spring because we all know
flowers are pretty. This post was taken from the Glenn beck show
this past Thursday.
For more on a typical republican’s view of this great country please
tune into the Glenn Beck show and watch his mannerisms and listen
carefully to his words. It’s very entertaining. Then decide. Would
you want the party he supports back in power? |

To the Anita Dunn poster. You could find the good in a crap
sandwich; which, by the way, is what this administration is feeding
us. |
|
[From the Right]
Thanks to the poster who acknowledged that Ms. Dunn’s Mao remarks were
political. I agree, but to me that is all the more reason that her remarks
were shocking. She was speaking to group of kids who are at life’s front
door. These kids were presented with a speech that, in part, honored a
murderous tyrant whose values are totally antithetical to all that is
American. Whoever invited her to speak held her out to these kids as a model
that should be admired and emulated. In turn, she held out one of history’s
most brutal tyrants as one of her most admired political philosophers. Her
remarks were political in the sense that they perfectly reflected her
admiration for Mao and for his politics. She did not speak of the fact that
China has morphed into a superpower, nor did she speak of the many
contributions that Chinese people have made to our history. Nope, she
praised Mao’s political philosophy. Remember too, that she spoke glowingly
of Mother Teresa. Mother Teresa was a savior to many Indians who exist in
grinding poverty. She had the moral authority to impact human life. The
message that Dunn was selling to those kids was that an all powerful leader,
acting on behalf of the “under classes”, is an appropriate and righteous
model for government. Please consider any one of our founding fathers would
be a perfect model for those kids. Our founders risked their lives and their
fortunes so that Ms. Dunn would be blessed with free speech. Ms. Dunn chose
to ignore our history, she chose a tyrant. Ms. Dunn also is working to
silence any voices that are critical of Mr. Obama. That would enrage our
founding fathers. That Deer Friends is Mao like and un-American.
(Part
II) H1N1 started to get notoriety in mid 2008, but
it has been around for a long time. By November 2008 we were hearing more
and more about it. Not long after Mr. Obama’s inauguration the drum beat of
warning echoed around the world. By mid March, Kathleen Sebilus, Mr. Obama’s
Health and Human Services Secretary, was resisting worldwide appeals to
aggressively address the border leaping threat of H1N1, she declined. On the
other hand she did go on Sesame Street and taught Elmo how to sneeze into
his (or her) elbow. How very clever and stylish of her. By Mid May, 2009
Glaxo, Kline, and Smith reported that: - “GSK has received orders from
several governments aiming to stockpile a new candidate A (H1N1) adjuvanted
influenza vaccine as a precautionary measure”. Those governments were the
U.K., France, Finland and Belgium. Note that the USA is not on that list.
Early in July Ms. Sebilius assured us that research was apace and that
vaccine would be available and vaccination would begin in mid October. On
July 22, 2009 Sebilius’ NIAID issued their first release on H1N1. It said: “NIAID
Set to Launch Clinical Trials to Test 2009 H1N1 Influenza Vaccine Candidates” Let’s
review. As of 1/21/09, the Obama admin was aware of the H1N1 threat. By
March Sebilius was being begged by foreign officials to bolster prevention
measures, she demurred. But she did teach Elmo how to sneeze. Foreign
nations were stockpiling vaccine. Finally, by July Ms. Sebilius acknowledged
that we needed the H1N1 vaccine and we needed it soon and we needed to use
it. In July Ms. Sebilius hosted a one day H1N1 summit, she said that “if”
vaccine is available, we will start a voluntary vaccination campaign by Mid
October. You must remember that in May the vaccine was available, foreign
governments were using it. By August 11th NIAID, (Ms. Sebilius’
agency) had made remarkable progress, they said : “NIAD scientists view past
flu pandemics for clues to future course of 2009 H1N1 virus”. Now that is
sterling, absolutely sterling work they were still looking to history for
“clues”. In September NAID reported that trials had begun. It wasn’t until
October that it appears that H1N1 was finally made a priority over AIDS and
HIV issues. Let’s review again. H1N1 has been killing people all over the
world for years. We were repeatedly warned. We first became concerned with
it about a year ago. By late September the vaccine was not readily
available. Remember that the Obama administration promised vaccine aplenty
by the early fall. Just 23 days ago, H1N1 became a priority of the
gatekeepers of our health. 11 days later, On October 12th it was
announced that the vaccine would soon be “available” to the general public.
But The vaccine is still not widely available. You can check on the history
of our government’s role in its development by visiting the NIAD web site.
On Sunday, October 25, 2009 Obama authorities reported that more than
1,000 people in the United States, including almost 100 children, have died
from the strain of flu known as H1N1, and 46 states have widespread flu
activity. About 200 schools have been closed. There are over 300 million
Americans, but so far only 11 million doses have gone out. They say that
“ample” supplies will be available by mid November. That’s after the end of
the flu season. Think about it, these are the same people who want to run
your health care system. Deer friends, don't let it happen.

Anita Dunn, White House Communications Director]
She honored Chairman Mao and Mother Teresa in her statement. I think she was
looking past Mao’s terrible deeds, and looking at his philosophy. I also
think that she was looking to include a Chinaman for political reasons. One
of the good thinks about the Obama Administration is they take a world view
which is to our advantage in the long run. |

Di Gennaro, who has lobbied his Republican lawmaker friends
to secure funding for the sewer work, was among
the contingent of county officials who met with state officials in
Tallahassee...
Yes,
but how good is he at lobbying, since he hasn't brought home "the goods"?
How good are any of the other lobbyists on the county payroll (for the same
reason)? What exactly are any of them doing, except running up their tabs?
Where's our money going? Maybe we should stop spending our money on
lobbying and just throw it directly at the sewer builders.
And
while we're at it, how many "grant" people do we need to pay for? And when
will we see all the new money the new grant writer is supposed to be
getting? That's the one the BOCC agreed to hire at the last Key Largo BOCC
monthly meeting, because the County Administrator said she was the best, and
very qualified. Well, if she's so qualified, why, at the Oct. BOCC meeting,
did the BOCC agree to hire, at $15 per hour, another grant writer? (Did you
all notice at that meeting that when DiGennaro asked staff how much this guy
would cost, no staff answered him immediately. He had to ask the question 3
times before somebody finally said $4500. And that answer was intentionally
misleading. The real answer is $15 per hour. And the part the staff did not
include is that grant writing is a process, the just looking for grants part
can take months. There is no reason why one person can not do both grant
writing and grant administration.
When
the county lays off employees, the expectation is that the salary load will
decrease, but actually it has increased, because the money, instead of not
being spent, is being spent on lobbying and grant writing. And of
course, the remaining employees stand up at public meetings and say they
have too much work and have to pay lobby and grant people. |

I
propose we rename Old Town the Southernmost Disneyland. First HARC
went against tradition and allowed fancy colors and pastels on the historic
houses, now they want to paint the tin roofs white. Last year they wanted to
install vinyl clad windows; how about vinyl siding? There’s a move to allow
aluminum shutters and railings too. Why don’t we just make plastic replicas
of the historic houses? They will be much more energy efficient and cheaper
to maintain.
I renovated a hell
of a lot of those houses in my day and I always understood that we were
restoring those buildings to reflect the 1850’s style because that was the
peak of Key West’s heyday. Every time HARC allows modernization in the
historic district we all lose a little bit of that history. (I’m even in
favor of re-allowing shake roofs. They are available now with
fire-retardant).
If the residents
living in those half million dollar houses need to save money on their air
conditioning and maintenance, they should sell out and someone else will be
only too glad to buy their house to preserve that little bit of history. We
all benefit from Old Town being preserved as it existed in the 1850s not the
demands of the twenty-first century. No one has ever called Disneyland
“charming.” |

[Planning Position Refused]
What a waste of time. How many of the BOCC would have voted
for this guy if they had been given the opportunity to meet with him before
voting on him, to have formed their own opinions of him and maybe even asked
him what he was looking for in the position. And maybe, if he had met with
the commissioners himself, he might have decided he didn't want to work for
them before they voted on him.
Maybe the commissioners will meet with the next candidate before voting on
hiring him.
What
does this latest defection say about the county administrator's skills for
the really big stuff (directors, managers)? Although they claim not, in some
areas the BOCC is a micro managing lot.
What
does it say about the guy, that he bailed after hearing the commissioners
discuss him and the job and money in public? Maybe he got a taste of
Monroe government, politics and leadership and he changed his mind because
he did not want to get tangled up with Monroe's ways.
The
puzzling thing is the review panel that looked at all the applicants. What,
if anything, did they miss in him when reviewing him? Did anybody ask him
if was considering other job offers, or if he was ready to make the
commitment to living in the keys? |

[Obama
is a Terrorist] Damnit, the gall of the Obamacare forces is bizarre.
They have all the dedication and the ruthlessness of Al Qaeda. They have
declared Democrat Jihad on our health care system. The really disturbing
component of this is the fact that their target, our healthcare, is only a
tactical target. Their strategic target is to take our society by biting
off chunk after chunk after chunk until capitalism and freedom are history.
Pelosi, according to a late AP release, has priced the current House
Obamacare plan at $1 trillion dollars. That’s way over the Obama target, but
Obama will take it anyway. Worse, Pelosi only reduced the price to that
outrageous figure by hiding costs that amounts to many billions of
dollars. Those dollars are for Medicaid and Medicare. She pulled those
dollars out of the Obamacare bill and dumped them into a different pile of
legislation so as to hide the true costs of her Obamacare bill from you and
me. So far Mr. Obama has been able to seize control of the banking
industry, the mortgage industry, the auto industry. He now wants to capture
control, in a single bite, of an additional 20+% of our economy. If he gets
that bite you will suffer much higher taxes, and you will be forced to join
his plan which will reduce the quality and availability of care. If you
care, beef loud and long to every single legislator that you can think of.
Please. |

is a minor, his name has not been released. We’ll all find out eventually
and then he can keep his ass home schooled. This is a typical case of
horrible parenting. The fact that the kid was released to a grandmother says
something right there. Let’s see what Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Capt.
Chad Scibilia has to say about that. Hopefully, he finds out where the
needle came from—his parents perhaps? |

[Obama
responsible for flu] President Obama and his health care czar have known
of the threat of H1N1 for many months. They absolutely promised that they
would have enough vaccine to protect everyone before the onset of the
pandemic. The pandemic is here, the vaccine is not. We were told yesterday
that the vaccine would not be fully available until late in November. H1N1
is here now, many kids and adults have died. There can be no excuse for this
failure of Mr. Obama. We just can't trust him with our health. He's failed
us already. |

[From the Right]
On Friday an Obama
supporter published his beliefs that right wing posters cherry pick polling
data to emphasize right wing accomplishments and to diminish Left Wing
accomplishments. Temptation to say “Well Duh” is just overwhelming. In part
the poster spoke of “the propaganda you (right wingers) spew” and said: “I
want this all to stop so we could accomplish great things”. A few things
come to mind: First the poster is grievously wrong in his assessment of the
facts. The ranks of self identified Democrats is remaining stable, but the
ranks of the self identified Republicans is declining. The Republican brand
may well be on the way to a complete rebirth with a cleansing of the
philosophy that so closely mirrored Democrat spending habits and philosophy.
That would be a very healthy catharsis. Our current fiscal mess could not
have happened if we Republicans had not spent like Democrats and had
we Republicans really intensified our resistance to the predations of Chris
Dodd and other Democrat leaders. It was Dodd and other Congressional
Democrats who, for personal gain, so tragically screwed up the financial
industry. It is probable that the new Republican brand will be as different
from the old one as a 2009 hybrid Ford is from a 1954 Ford Mainline. It is
very good news that the ranks of those who identify themselves as
Conservative is growing exponentially. Conservatives now outnumber Liberals
by nearly two to one. Second, the Liberal fallback position is always
victimhood. The poster is saying that the Democrats are the victims of Right
Winger “propaganda” which he says is the cause of the Democrat failures.
Apparently he chooses to ignore that Democrats hold rock solid partisan
proof majorities in both Houses of Congress. Third: In what always seems to
be a liberal battle tactic, the poster wants to silence the voices of anyone
who is critical of the Obama initiatives. It is an alarming, but not
surprising that Mr. Obama and his minions have declared war on dissention.
Just ask anyone at Fox news or most other news outlets who have condemned
it. Mr. Obama and his faithful have established an enemy’s list like Nixon
or Johnson. Some of the Obama inner circle has expressed deep admiration for
communist and/or socialist leaders and philosophers. Mr. Obama himself was
mentored by communists. Silencing opposition is the Democrat way, but it
sure as hell is not the American way.
(Part II)
I’m happy to note
that yesterday, CT was nearly devoid of ad hominem attacks. That’s not to
say that posters did not challenge the views of other posters, only that
there was a substantial drop in name calling. That’s a very good thing. But
I will continue to answer fire with fire, I just won’t fire first. I
welcome, challenge, and encourage everyone to jump in and tell the CT
community your point of view. The whole idea is tell the world how righteous
your point of view is. You just might change a CT devotee’s mind. Or maybe
you just want to rant about how wrong the other side is. But be prepared to
take broadsides if you insist on personally attacking folks who have a
different point of view. I urge you to tell us why Mr. Obama is so near and
dear to your heart. What is it in his character, his performance, or his
experience that keeps you in his thrall? What benefit will our nation have,
and why, if his leftist policies are enacted? Why are you committed to
strangling capitalism? Why are you committed to the Cap and Trade storm that
is now peeking over the horizon? How about your views on the current
socialized medicine debacle? |

Hey there...
As most of you know, this
Sunday (October 25) is my birthday, and it usually falls right in the middle
of Fantasy Fest, and we are down in Key West and can't celebrate with our
friends. Well, this time, my birthday falls on the first weekend, so we can
celebrate with y'all!
Therefore, we are
celebrating tonight (Saturday, 10/24), at the Looe Key Tiki Bar, on Ramrod
Key! If you live down here, I am inviting you to stop by and party with
us...if you don't live down here, I will feel your spirit partying with us!
We are asking people to come in costume, if they can, but they don't have
to! I'm going to be trying out my new fangs (in more ways than one...ha!),
and wild eye contact lenses, and maybe my new puppet!
Hope to see you there!

Future plans
Brooks Bateman’s vision for the MCSO Aviation Division is well
planned and funded growth to support the unit’s HEMS operation and expand
its LE role.
Monroe County
residents indicated in a referendum last year that a capable and efficient
government-operated HEMS is a priority to them.
With a financial commitment from county voters in place—and with
the potential for additional funding from DHS—Bateman would like to add
another helicopter that could provide additional law enforcement capability
and serve as a backup for the S76.
This will likely mean the acquisition of a single-engine
helicopter to serve the dual role efficiently, although Bateman does not
rule out a larger aircraft.
Any new aircraft will also mean adding 2 or 3 pilots to
support the increased workload.
Another priority is the upgrade of aircraft components and
onboard medical equipment.
While the S76’s current avionics are adequate for its mission,
emerging technologies can provide better safety and efficiency. Bateman
notes that the county remains “very responsive to our needs for improved
medical equipment.” |

It is amazing that the
presidents birthplace fiasco goes on and on. It makes no sense that he would
spend a reported million dollars to protect his records unless there was
something to hide. If he has a proper certificate then what possible reason
would there be for not publicly displaying it? Also what is the rush to
pass a fifteen hundred page, unread, healthcare bill that does not go into
effect for a couple of years, yet the tax base will start immediately on
passage?
Does the federal
government need the money that bad? Who will really benefit from the quick
passage? These are the questions everyone from all political parties should
be asking. It is a citizens right to know. It is the politicians duty to
answer truthfully. |

Things
really are looking up for the Obama administration, way up. Back in January
unemployment was at about 7.2%. Newly minted President Obama had promised
that unemployment would not exceed 8% if his stimulus legislation was
passed. It passed and unemployment went up, way up to 10%. And it's staying
up. Mr. Obama’s spokespeople told us yesterday that it was headed even
higher and would stay higher for at least the next year or so. Wow, up it
goes! The number of jobs lost has gone way up since the Obastimulus passed.
It’s up by about 2.7 million lost jobs. Super dooper. Gee, that’s a lot of
Mom’s and Dad’s who have a lot more quality time with their kids! Mr. Obama
declared war on Fox News, and Fox’s ratings have gone way up. I understand
that they’re advertising rates have gone way up. Their bottom line has gone
way up too. Things are looking up for Mr. Obama in Congress too. Opposition
to Mr. Obama’s Cap and Trade initiative is up, way up. Judging by the polls,
public concern and attention is up, way up. The number of folks who say “Up
Yours Mr. Obama” is up, way up. |

You just gotta love some of these liberals. On Thursday the Right
Wing dude wrote a long thing giving chapter and verse on some of the reasons
why Obamacare is really a rotten idea. He used tough, but funny, language to
describe the Obama plan and those airheads who designed it. Well, that got a
liberal poster all huffy and red faced. He sounded a lot like a tight assed
ultra stiff necked prude. Just the type that the liberals live to bitch
about. You know how they knock folks of faith. He complained all about the
language, but he didn’t even try to rebut the arguments of the Right
Winger. So now we know that this dude doesn’t like tough talk, but we don’t
know what he stands for or why. I suppose he just likes Obama, but he
doesn't know why. Is he ashamed to try and argue his case? This guy should
wear the scarlet “L” letter. You decide if it stands for loser or liberal. |

[Death Penalty for Revenge]
Naturally
…
or predictably
…
you missed my point.
First, I’m hardly a holy roller. And of course I’d want revenge for a
heinous crime against me or my loved ones. I’m human. I might even take the
law into my own hands and exact
the revenge on my own.
However, what I
said was that
capital punishment
doesn’t make sense and therefore is bad law because it
takes its cues from emotion. Furthermore it
is the ultimate
hypocrisy
for the state
to plan out someone’s murder
…
as a way to show society how much we detest murder. Surely
…
even someone who sees the world in terms of
“rag heads” and
“holy rollers” can acknowledge that.
I
might also add that laws which are viewed as hypocritical aren’t widely
respected. And I might also add
that
upon reading many first person accounts of victim’s
who thought they’d find comfort when capital punishment was meted out
…
the truth is, they don’t. They mostly feel emptiness. Murder is murder
…
no matter who does it. Jail for life
–
with
all its violence, rape and deprivation
…
is a much more cruel punishment.
Let the convicts kill their own.
You disappoint me. You sound like
someone who would
favour that.

I have no
connections to either side of this issue, but I have been reading about it
every time it comes up, and I have heard all the NNK residents speak at
many meetings.
So, just to
keep facts at top of this discussion: 1.) the
pro-utilities people have repeatedly said they are willing to pay for it
themselves, which eliminates the "taxpayers will pay" accusation put out by
the anti-utilities people. 2.) The anti-utilities people are costing the
taxpayers just as much, and possibly more (The Gallion case) than the
pro-utilities people.
The
pro-utilities peoples' arguments seem logical, credible, reasonable, fact
based.
The
anti-utilities peoples' arguments seem emotional, personal hype, hysteria
driven.
Although trying
to protect "a personal agenda" way of life is king around here, just as
much credence gets given to rights of property owners. Ever since people
started living here, my turf vs your turf // my rights vs your rights
has been life consuming.
To the
anti-utilities people, stop dragging the rest of us into this "resident vs.
resident" power struggle. You want to control an area, buy it. You can not
accuse the other side of doing that which you are also doing.
I personally
hold you responsible for any money anybody has to pay because you won a
court case. You have crossed a line, and dragged me into your life. This is
my say - stand down. Enough is enough. Get over yourselves. |

[SOLAR GROUP LIES]
In response to the ramble of lies by No Name Key resident Chris
Barber:
The residents of No Name Key who want power will be paying for this
power extension to their own homes. No (zero, zilch) County taxpayers will
be paying for this. Further, the handful of No Name Key homeowners who do
not want power (mostly winter visitors) will (1) not be forced to have it,
and (2) will not be paying for it either. Our current lack of commercial
electricity is a matter of the few forcing the many. These few are forcing
their will and their personal choices onto their majority neighbors; that
force has resulted in enormous noise and air pollution. Commercial power,
providing the availability for grid-tie, will be a matter of choice.
The residents of No Name Key who have asked for central sewer
connection are like all residents of this County (1) under the same State
Mandate, (2) will be using the same State Funds, or penny sales tax, as
every other area in the Keys, and (3) concerned about clean waters in the
Florida Keys. When polluted canals flush (be-it tides or storms) they flush
into the surrounding Bay and Ocean waters. As our NNK water-body is one of
only twenty-six “verified impaired water-bodies” (per the USEPA) in all the
lower keys, surely it is worthy of our concerns and best efforts to reverse
the pollution and water quality damage that is occurring.
I am in support of a clean, healthy and safe environment for the
planet and for my children:
(1) Commercial electricity will eliminate the noisy, polluting
generators which are used by 91% of the NNK homes. These generators create
300% more CO2 emissions than electricity produced by Fl Elec., and the cost
of the electricity produced from these generators is 6 times higher.
Commercial Electricity will also eliminate, or seriously reduce, the toxic
lead-acid batteries which currently run all of the homes on NNK. &
Commercial electricity will allow for grid-tie.
(2) Central sewer connection will eliminate the current
septic/sewage leakage into our waters.
In a day when the world is so informed, aware, and concerned about
the environment, and the health and safety of our citizens, how these
dwindling few “solar-people” can object to clean air, and clean water is
beyond comprehension. And they've been pulling this environmental sham all
off in the name of the "Key Deer Protection", what a horrid joke they've
been playing on this County.
No Name Key residents have paid taxes for 30 years worth of public
services not received, but No Name Key residents are not asking you to
pay for anything.
Yes, you are right, the taxpayers of this County sure deserve to
know how badly they have been robbed: We can sure thank you, Alicia
Putney and your last few solar friends for the MILLIONS (I hear $10
Million!!!!!!!!!) that we will be spending on the Galleon Bay lawsuit, all
to stop 12 homes from being built next door to Alicia Putney! Now Folks,
THERE'S THE REAL TAXPAYER MONEY ROBBED FROM YOU, all because of the "solar
group"! |

HISTORY
LESSON
Take a moment to
learn about what
Mao Zedong, so admired in the
Obama White House, was really
like. It has been revealed that White House communications director Anita
Dunn reveres the Chinese Hitler as a political philosopher.
Mao urged communist
leaders in East Germany to build the Berlin Wall. Mao was also enthusiastic
about executions, child labor, torture, and organized public denunciation
sessions for political figures who fell out of favor with him.
It is known that
some 70 million Chinese, along
with countless Tibetans, Mongolians, Manchus, Koreans, Hmong, Uyghurs, and
other nationalities,
died as a result of his long and brutal reign.
Mao was also a prolific rapist who had his subordinates bring him a constant
stream of young girls.
Mao also used terror to
systematically destroy entire classes of people who might prove obstacles to
his rule, deliberately striking fear—and instilling blind obedience–into the
remainder of the population. Mao had written in the early 1920s that China
“must be destroyed and then re-formed.” Once in power, he began applying the
Leninist principle of class
struggle to the Chinese people under his control.
Another of the many
admirers of
Mao working in the Obama White
House is car czar
Ron Bloom, who Obama has
placed in charge of Chrysler and General Motors. |

Tip - You may want to
read the highly acclaimed book "MAO The Unknown Story," by Jung Chang and
Jon Halliday. This is considered the most authoritative book on Mao ever
written. The authors, who lived in China and speak the language, spent a
decade researching China under Mao and interviewed many of Mao's close
circle who had never spoken before, even for years after Mao's death in
1976. Mao was not only a genocidal murderer in his public life but a
thorough moral degenerate in his private life. |

Pilots are
scheduled to man the TraumaStar aircraft on 12-hr shifts, 7 days on, 7
days off.
Duty
days begin at 0730 or 1930 and start with a briefing from the outgoing
crew, a check of the day’s expected weather, preflight inspection of the
helicopter and an extensive briefing with the medical crew that includes
a risk assessment for operations during the shift.
Helicopter
crews respond to an average of around 20 calls per month.
This
equates to 75–100 hrs of flying annually, or more if also qualified on
the King Air. Pilots flying for TraumaStar like the work schedule, which
allows some to live elsewhere in Florida and commute in for their 7 days
on duty. (Apart from anything else, living in the Florida Keys is
expensive.)
Pilot
salaries range from the low $60,000s to high $80, 000s including
overtime. In addition, they accrue 16 hrs per month compensated
vacation, enjoy full insurance benefits and are provided with a county
car or transportation allowance. Turnover is close to zero due to the
positive working conditions and the most senior pilot, Gary “Ski”
Baginski, has been with MCSO for over 10 years. |

Capital punishment, is it
vengance? Abortion and capital punishment are both the legalized taking
of a human life. It is both commendable and logical that any person who
abhors abortion will be a person who loves and respects the right to
life. It is difficult for such a person to come to grips with the notion
of capital punishment. It was for me. I spent nearly all of a nearly 40
year career in law enforcement as a homicide investigator. I’ve been
involved in more homicide investigations that I can count. I’ve
conducted investigations in nearly every prison facility in Florida and
spent hundreds of hours in the court room. One of the early lessons
learned is that vengeance is not a part of the capital punishment
equation in the State’s pursuit of justice. That certainly is not
necessarily so with the family and loved ones of the murder victim.
Protection of the defendant’s rights consumes an incredible amount of
state resources. I’ve learned that prison is survivable; incredibly some
inmates see it as a suitable lifestyle. Prison imposes an entirely new
set of rules and customs as different from freedom as good is from evil.
The vast majority of new prisoners fairly quickly adapts to and adopts
the strict rules imposed by the inmates and their keepers. Many endure,
many thrive. Money is made and lost, love affairs flourish, power is
gained and lost. Life goes on. The criminals steal from each other, they
brutalize each other, they plot, they rape, they kill, they cut and
maim. They plot to escape, and some do escape. They are a real and
constant danger to staff and to the society that you and I inhabit
should they escape. The argument that capital punishment is not a
deterrent is patently specious. I’ve not studied the literature, but
I’ve interviewed scores of murders, virtually every single one of them
was afraid of the threat of capital punishment. But of course that fear
of losing their own life only materialized after their arrest. The
simple fact is that not a single one of them expected to be caught. Had
they expected to be caught, they would not have done the crime. Several
killed again to eliminate witnesses. The exception is the rage killer;
no rage killer ever contemplates the consequences of his act of rage.
I’ve seen executions; they are conducted quickly, and for want of a
better term, humanely. All but one murderer that I have known did all in
their power to escape the death penalty, many begged and pleaded, they
preferred life in prison to death. As an aside, many were affable, even
friendly types. Many trying to avoid the death penalty sold out their
crime partners and all that was of value to them. In far too many
instances, the prison “lifers” are at the top of the societal ladder in
prison. Cop killers are the alpha dogs. These inmates are the elite.
Many of these “lifers” can be called “stone killers”. This set of
killers is an incredible threat to the other inmates and especially to
prison staff. They enjoy the killing, they feed on the fear that they
engender. A smaller set simply use killing as a means to an end, they
have no emotion or feeling, and killing is simply a means to an end, a
tool. The procedures involved in a capital punishment proceeding are
incredibly thorough and cautious so as to be sure to accurately identify
only those killers who truly are appropriate candidates for state
imposed death. Deterrence falls far short of being sufficient to protect
society. Every criminal knows that there is a risk of capture, they
ignore the risk and commit the crime. To many of them, the thrill of the
risk, the "fun" itself, is sufficient reason to commit the crime.
Capital punishment may not be a deterrent, but it an absolute fact that
no murderer who has been executed has ever killed again |
Right Wing congratulations to Mr. Obama. As of Friday morning, his
Presidential Approval Index among likely voters of all political persuasions
has increased 5 points overnight to a warm and cuddly -9. But maybe our
Obama acolytes will deny that is true simply because it was a report from
Rasmussen. I wonder if they will believe that the same report says that only
29% of the same likely voters strongly approve of him while 38% strongly
disapprove. Well, maybe they prefer to believe Gallup who says that Mr.
Obama’s job approval rate is 53%, because of a 9 point drop. That plummet
reflects the largest drop between the second and third quarter for an
elected president since 1953, and one of the largest quarter-to-quarter
drops for any first-year president. Really, who cares, the facts speak for
themselves.

[Medical Marijuana] Your comment asked why legal
prescriptions for pot would be any different than other prescriptions
because they are abused too. I saw a show on TV the other night that
caught my ear because I have been to Arcata, California, have family
there, and this is what's happening there since California legalized
medical marijuana.
Grow houses have taken over what was once a quaint,
pretty, environmentally friendly little town in the redwoods country.
Every 7th house on any given residential street is now a grow
house. They re-route the duct work, re-wire the electric, and set up the
entire house to grow weather they rent it or own it. The electric
company says nothing of the extra use because the law is vague. The
meters on grow houses spin six times more than the regular house next
door. Due to the humidity, mold results, and whole house fires break
out due to all of the non-inspected re-wiring.
Elderly people, who once had beautiful outdoor side
gardens, won't go outside to tend to their gardens from the pot smell so
close next door. Their gardens now look like dead trash. It diminishes
everyone's property values. City and County government does little
because they don't have the resources to follow up every complaint,
especially after the voters of California voted medical marijuana in.
Now, don't get me wrong, I agree with people who need it
for medical purposes and they are the ones who do it correctly. They
are allowed quite a bit of backyard space to grow annually and don't
create all of the other hazards the abusers do by growing it illegally
inside. The police can hardly keep up - it's taken over the town. What
a shame to see this happen to a beautiful place. People are now
struggling just to get out. The law intended to help terminally ill
people, and people with chronic pain, has been abused and taken over by
the grow houses which have hurt everyone. That's the difference, you
can't grow other Rx drugs, even if they're abused too. |

Are you paying for utilities on No Name Key? My husband and I
have been full-time residents of No Name Key for 17 years and are
members of the solar community of No Name Key. We are happy and
comfortable with the way things are now -- it is why we moved to No Name
Key.
The taxpayers of Monroe County have the right to know exactly how much
time, which is to say money, has been spent in the last 19 months
dealing with No Name Key issues. Issues that were previously addressed
by the County that did not need to be addressed again.
It started in March of 2008 with "We want central sewers." Then, it was
"We want commercial power." Now it’s "We want Florida Keys Aqueduct
Authority water." And always implied is "We want someone else to pay for
it." Just who is "someone else"?
It turns out that "someone else" is the taxpayers of Monroe County, the
ratepayers of Keys Energy Services, the ratepayers of FKAA or some
mysterious and unexplained grantor.
The County, KES and FKAA have already spent money on No Name Key.
They've done surveying, exploratory digging, planning and design work
and have held multitude public meetings.
Just how much of your money has been spent so far? If this arouses your
curiosity, why not give the County, KES and FKAA a call and ask? It is
your right to know. |

[US1] It’s a waste of money sticking painted trash
cans and useless signage along our historical road way. The playgrounds
too, are kind of a waste. What's wrong with using the school areas for
kids to play in? They are designed much safer than a public park area
could ever be. If playgrounds have to be built to use up public funds
then build them next to police stations to keep the druggies out.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your feedback and hope
the Keys last as they are for others to enjoy as is. It is just that I
see a trend to over build simply for profit. House flipping and other
methods are not in the best interests of those who want to live here
until we recycle.
As far as the sewers are concerned, I would like to see them installed
for health and environmental reasons, but everybody knows the main
reason for the county pushing this issue is to acquire federal funding
which like the Bike Path money, will be diverted to other "more
necessary uses". The second reason for pushing the sewers is to allow
changes in the building code to allow high volume construction of
commercial buildings such as hotels and sports facilities and other
non-residential complexes. This will kill the Keys completely, and if
Cuba opens her doors to the US tourists, the Keys will die like any area

A poster in here said he found that the 1/4 truth man’s
postings were always within the "bounds of decency". Let’s review
some wording from his posts. I’ll just take yesterdays posting as an
example.
1. "What crap is being foisted on us by the Obama Administration?"
2. "The very biggest sales gimmicks"
3. "This is pure donkey dung"
4. "Private insurers are evil and the mommy government"
5. "Obama’s current best friend Butt-boy"
6. "Snake oil salesman"
Okay, maybe not really indecent but he is definitely the
poster child for ranting. His back-handed insults are proof of his
frustration and inability to think clearly when discussing political
issues. It’s a shame but his ranting borders on the typical anti
American rhetoric that is running rampant thru the Republican Party
today. The president wanting to speak to kids about self-reliance and
working hard and staying in school and he goes off on some tangent about
communism.
Republicans have lost their way and the wacky right wing
is pulling their party farther away from mainstream America every day.
If you want to see how far the right is out there, watch the Glenn Beck
Show. Listen to him and watch him closely; then decide if you want the
party this man represents running the country.
But of course it’s been explained that Beck was born in
American and President Obama was born in Tangiers or some other, God
awful, terrorist place. |

appetizers in the rudest way possible. The men liberally sprinkled
their loud conversation with vulgarities and the women weren’t much
nicer, criticizing the decor and whining about the comfort of the
seats. After pounding down their drinks and finishing their food they
complained about the price of the Margaritas, bitched about the food and
left, leaving a three dollar tip and a mess that you would only expect

Frank
was excited about his new rifle and decided to try bear hunting.
He travelled up to Alaska, spotted a small Brown bear and shot it. Soon
after there was a tap on his shoulder, and he turned around to see a big
black bear. The Black bear said, "That was a very bad mistake. That was
my cousin. I'm going to give you two choices. Either I maul you to death
or we have sex."
After considering briefly, Frank
decided to accept the latter alternative. So the Black bear had his way
with Frank. Even though he felt sore for two weeks, Frank soon recovered
and vowed revenge. He headed out on another trip to Alaska where he
found the Black bear and shot it dead. Right after, there was another
tap on his shoulder. This time a huge Grizzly bear stood right next to
him. The Grizzly said, "That was a big mistake, Frank. That was my
cousin and you've got two choices: Either I maul you to death or we have
"rough sex." Again, Frank thought it was better to cooperate with the
grizzly bear than be mauled to death. So the grizzly had his way with
Frank. Although he survived, it took several months before Frank fully
recovered. Now Frank was completely outraged, so he headed back to
Alaska and managed to track down the Grizzly bear and shot it. He felt
sweet revenge, but then, moments later, there was a tap on is shoulder.
He turned around to find a giant Polar bear standing there. The Polar
bear looked at him and said, "Admit it Frank, you don't come here for
the hunting, do you?" |

[From the Right]
Special
to all CT fans who have faith and belief in the proclamations of the
Obama administration: On Wednesday, Mr. Obama’s appointee, Sec. Kathleen
Sebelius’ Health and Human Services Department released a study that
examined the fiscal impact of the most recent Democratic House Health
Care bill. The study reports that the bill would actually increase
national health care spending. That study reveals that the total
national cost of health care would escalate to 21.3% of the US economy
by 2019. That’s more than if no bill were passed. So, if you want to
further bloat our already gargantuan debt by spending more money on
health care and you’re certain that it is urgent to increase the
national debt, then Obamacare is for you. It’s not for me. As a
conservative I am convinced that legislation can be enacted that will
actually shrink the cost of medical care without demonizing any
scapegoat bogeymen. Remember that the health care insurance industry has
never prescribed a single pill or done a single surgery, or made up a
single bed in a hospital.
http://www.politico.com/static/PPM145_091021_fratesmemo.html.
[Part II) I’m
grateful for yesterday’s support and very impressed with the clarity of
thought expressed. There is no doubt that CT has an audience that thinks
for itself and is serious about fact checking. I’m a happy camper. One
doubting poster asked for documentation on the debunking of yet another
posters claim that the health insurance industry’s profits were
excessive. That poster had claimed that health insurance profits were in
the 35%-45% range. Absolutely false said Fortune 500 who states that
that the industry’s profit margin was 2.2%, that’s way down at 35th
in the rankings. This was reported by CNN (an unapologetic Obama
acolyte).
Also mentioned
was the old, but frivolous, lament which claims that hordes of us are
going bankrupt due to medical bills. That is based on a Harvard study
done in 2001 by Stephanie Woolhandler, a rabid universal health care
advocate. The criteria for determining medical debt included any
bankruptcy which had any medical debt in excess of $5000, regardless of
any other debt. It included alcoholism, any death caused bankruptcy, any
drug dependency caused bankruptcy, death of spouse due to illness. It’s
amazing but the study actually accepted “debtor said medical bills were
reason for bankruptcy” as a valid criteria. Incredibly, “gambling
addiction” was a criterion. It’s worth noting that the study only
claimed that only 5.6% of all of the bankruptcies studied claimed that
they had mortgaged their home to pay for medical bills. It’s also worth
noting that Canada, which of course has socialized medicine, has a
higher bankruptcy rate than the U.S. Personal bankruptcy filings as a
percentage of the population were U.S.0.20%. Canada 0.30% for '06 and
'07. The relatively few bankruptcies influenced by medical bills is no
reason for strangling our economy with socialized medicine.

[Utilities on No Name Key] Message to the Barber's
of No Name Key. Wow, it didn't take you long to return to our island
and begin your bombardment of misinformation. Let me make some facts
clear to people of Big Pine Key, No Name and Monroe County.
1) The 70% majority or NNK residents that want
electricity and central sewer have offered to pay for it themselves.
That's right, at no cost to the taxpayers. And, if you don't want
electricity, you don't have to have it.
2) The people deserve the truth and the truth is that the
original homeowners on NNK were promised electricity when they bought
their lots and homes. They have letters from City Electric stating this
as well as utility easements on their deeds. Many of these original
land/homeowners are still here waiting.
3) If the Barbers are so concerned for the taxpayer’s
welfare, maybe they should have mentioned Galleon Bay, a development
okayed by the County and stopped primarily by an overzealous planning
commissioner who, you guessed it, just happened to live next door to the
proposed development on No Name Key. The Galleon Bay takings lawsuit
(which they won) will cost Monroe County taxpayers in excess of 10
million dollars. You and I will pay dearly for it. I encourage you all
to investigate the Galleon Bay case.
4) The people that want electricity are greatly concerned
about protecting the beauty and peacefulness of NNK. How many times do
we have to say we don't want any more development here, we don't want
street lights, but we do want to quiet the 24/7 noise from generators,
eliminate the air pollution/carbon emissions and have the opportunity to
tie our solar systems to the grid so that we can upgrade to modern solar
and wastewater technology. |

Come on folks, posts are getting boring and redundant.
Let’s get ready to start whining about Fantasy Fest |
|
[Bad Water] It is time we did something about the
Keys drinking water, if you want to call it that. I just replaced my
spigot and stopper drain assembly in my bathroom vanity. The drain and
spigot were high end assemblies. Both parts were actually rotted away
from the acids and chemicals in our water after only 5 years! These
fixtures should have lasted for 10, 15, 20 or more years.
Why are we accepting such dangerous water? Why are we
paying through the nose for this crap? It's time to look into the
quality of our water which may be hurting our kids too. My kitchen
fixtures are next after only four years. I would hate to see what the
inside of my water heater looks like. Fix our water before you waste our
money on our sewers. |

[From The Right postings are insulting and
inappropriate.] What a bunch of whining nonsense. I always find the
rhetoric of the From the Right column to be completely within the bounds
of decency for postings of political debate. I suggest if the complainer
really wants to read some vulgar quotes he should peruse some of his
sacred left wing posts on these and other sites. When that happens
they’ll pass for reasoned, passionate debate. If your children are old
enough to assimilate what is being written here, they are certainly old
enough to read benign terms such as bull hockey, etc. If not, then that
is another matter. Your post looks like more left wing whining. These
posts are not designed with a church bulletin as their template. |

[Insurance company’s “low” profits] You claim that
is was a mere 2.2%, but I found that it was more like 12-15%. That is
according to the study I referenced which was based on WellPoint
Insurance Co. Although this sounds like mere chump change, it actually
amounts to something like $96-$120 million profit. My question is, why
should these business entities be allowed to profit so handsomely on the
backs of sick and vulnerable people? I understand a small profit is
necessary to cover administrative costs, etc, but this is supposed to be
a non-profit industry. WellPoint’s total marketing (advertising)
expenses alone for 2008 were $1,778.4 million. That's not kosher when
you consider fully insured people are going bankrupt due to health
care costs. |
|

Men are like fish. They both get into trouble

[Right Guy
is Right] I'm getting tired of people bashing the From the Right
Guy. He didn't cherry pick a quote to make a point. Here's the relevant
part of the quote below. It totally fit the context that the From the
Right Guy was discussing.
"And then the third lesson
and tip actually come from two of my favorite political philosophers,
Mao Zedong and Mother Teresa -- not often
coupled with each together, but the two people that I turn to most to
basically deliver a simple point, which is, you're going to make
choices. You're going to challenge. You're going to say, "Why not?"
You're going to figure out how to do things that have never been done
before. But here's the deal: These are your choices. They are no one
else's.
In 1947, when Mao Zedong was being challenged within his own party
on his plan to basically take China over, Chiang Kai-shek and the
Nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army, they had the air
force, they had everything on their side. And people said, "How can you
win? How can you do this? How can you do this against all of the odds
against you?" And Mao Zedong said, you know, "You fight your war, and
I'll fight mine." And think about that for a second." ~Anita Dunn -
White House Communications Director
I only need a nanosecond to think about the fact that this Obama White
House Communications Director called a man, whose policies murdered
between 40-60 million people, one of her favorite political
philosophers. Then to discuss his communist takeover as if it's a
shining example of perseverance is just sick. |

I request the other side of this issue be afforded the same publicity as
that of Mr Tharp's. Up until last week I was a member of this so called
"Citizen's committee" controlled by the Chamber of Commerce
representatives. When they refused to entertain any possibilities other
than that put forth by Mr Tharp (using FS 189 as his reasoning) I
resigned.
Both the County Administrator Roman Gastesi and Commissioner Sylvia
Murphy have been very consistent and adamant that they supported the
concept of a recreation district in Key Largo, as do, if it did not
include ad valorem taxes or county liability. Mr Tharp's proposal does
not meet both these requirements. The BOCC resolution method does.

[Anita
Dunn] Attacking Fox News and defending President Barack Obama is a
family affair for Anita Dunn, the White House communications director
who has blasted Fox as an arm of the Republican Party, talked about
"controlling" the news media and espoused her embrace of Chairman Mao as
her favorite philosopher.
She's married to Robert Bauer, the chief of the political
law group at Perkins Coie, the Seattle law firm hired by the White House
to defend President Obama in court cases challenging his "natural born"
citizenship status in the United States and thus, his eligibility under
the U.S. Constitution to be president.
Also during the 2008 presidential campaign, Bauer as
counsel for the Obama campaign wrote letters
to television station
managers and to Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General John
Keeney arguing that airing an anti-Obama ad pointing to the
known association between Obama and Weather Underground radical Bill
Ayers would violate federal election rules.
In addition to representing Obama on eligibility cases,
Bauer also is hired as legal counsel to represent the president in the
criminal probe going on
into the activities of
former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. |

[Death
Penalty] I’m not a liberal by any stretch, but I’ve never understood
the rationale behind the death penalty. Is society supposed to show its
abhorrence and condemnation of murder by killing yet again? Wouldn’t the
real, harsher punishment be a no-exit life sentence in solitary
confinement if necessary? I understand the concept of vengeance, but as
a deterrent or punishment, state executions are of absolutely no value.
If I was ever up on any charges, I wouldn’t want to live in a society
that used vengeance as a legal tool. That strikes me as fascistic. And
in case you’re wondering, I don’t believe in abortion (also known as
sucking a baby down a sink) either. |

[Anita Dunn] Another
dude shot from the lip at the so called ˝ truth guy. That dude says that
he read the speech given by Anita Dunn, White House Communications
Director. He says that the right wing posting was a lie. I read the Dunn
speech, and you can read an excerpt at the link below. I doubt that the
lip shooter really read the speech because Dunn really does praise both
Chairman Mao and Mother Teresa. She actually does cite them as being
“two of my favorite political philosophers, Mao Tse-tung and Mother
Teresa.” I’ve got no complaint about Mother Teresa being anybody’s
favorite political philosopher, but I sure do not like it one bit that a
high ranking member of the Office of The President of the United States
has decided that Mao Tse Tung is worthy of anything--especially
co-favorite political philosopher.
Mao murdered tens of millions of men, women, and children for his
ideological political gain. It appears that he used the Holocaust as a
role model. Why didn’t Dunn choose George Washington as an excellent
example of resolute pursuit of a goal? Instead she chose a murderous
Communist tyrant. I really hope that you wonder why she has no American
political philosophers who she looks to for guidance. Dunn is just
another shining example of the ultra left wing zealots who now populate
the White House. The right winger was right on and the lip shooter is in
left field with his left foot in his mouth.

country was not founded as a democracy, socialist state or capitalist
state. It was founded as a representative republic (per Ben Franklin

[Keys Manners and Etiquette flyer for snowbirds] That's
not a bad idea. Instead of handing them out, post them at local
businesses and stack them at tourist info kiosks. They could be made
humorous and informative and become a collector's item to be taken home
as a souvenir. Does anyone have any suggestions for inclusion? |

[Aluminum

check this possibility with someone who knows more, but J-B Weld has
patched a lot of things for me that I wouldn't have believed possible. |

[The Gangplank Bar] You might have done laundry in
the small shack but never in the building that now stands as its
replacement because the County cronies would not allow it to open. |

The
Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday
shows that 27% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that
Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%)
Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of
-13. That’s just a point above the lowest level ever recorded for this
President. It’s also the sixth straight day in negative double digits,
matching the longest such streak (see trends).
Just 31% of voters believe that Congress has a good
understanding of the health care proposal.
The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by
subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who
Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern
Overall, 47% of voters say they at least somewhat approve
of the President's performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove. |

My Garmin GPS Map 185 Sounder has developed a
3 1/2" black bullseye in the center of the screen so I am looking for
another unit that uses the same cords. I believe some of the later
units will work with these cords. Does anyone know which ones do? |

[Government should only be involved in law and order and national
defense] You sound like the Taliban! We live in a civilized country.
Maybe you could live in Somalia, they don't have any government! |

[Aluminum Gas Tank] Welding
tanks, any tanks, requires an additional certification for the welder to
have. I’m sure many welders cad do it well without that certification.
But with fuel I’m too concerned about explosions to risk it with one of
them. |

[Healthcare] (I have a question, truth be known I have had a
few.) If health care is so urgent, why does the new and improved version
that's being drafted as I write this, not kick in for five years? Urgent
is now, today or better yet--yesterday. That's urgent.
The U.S. Government will collect taxes stating the day the bill becomes
law, then we wait 5 years. Most Americans feel the need for jobs is
urgent, addressing the nation’s deficient is urgent. Reforming health
care should start with fixing Medicare, Medicaid and the V.A. systems.
In doing so, we will learn a great deal about fixing our overall health
care system. Let’s make some changes we can believe in and live with. |
