[Cardgate] I don’t know how Superintendant Acevedo can hold his
head up and stay at his job without the confidence of the School Board,
teachers and the public. No one can have confidence in a leader steeped
in such a massive scandal. He must really need the job not to resign in
the face of all the corruption and theft he’s allowed. ~usa33043@yahoo.com |

[Graffiti
on a memorial] Without knowing any of the people involved (so you
know I have nothing against any of them) I have to agree that graffiti
as a 'memorial' ranks right down there with the plastic trash in the
ditch commemorating crash fatalities. It looks really tacky. Your
loved one deserves better. |

[Florida Keys Shit List] Lobster poachers sentenced. David and
Denise Dreifort of Cudjoe Key; Robert Hammer, 45, a Key West charter
captain; Sean Reyngoudt, 25, a Summerland Key semi-pro kiteboarder; and
John R. Niles, 50, of LaBelle. |

[Fired
GM CEO Good] Obama did what you all wanted. He refused to give the
car industries more bailout money that they say they need. He’s giving
them enough for 30 days then its sink or swim. I’m sure today some of
you will point out that the stock market took a major header but that
was because he did what you wanted. You can’t have it both ways. He also
forced out a man responsible for one of the automaker’s horrible
planning and financial well being, Rick Wagner GM’s CEO. The man was
held accountable for his failings by resigning. Now we will see how
holding them accountable affects the nation. Maybe he is right. If you
cannot right your manufacturing ship you need to sink. That’s free
market capitalism at its best. Thanks President Obama for not bailing
out more industries with our money. Let them fail; they have been
heading in that direction for years. |
|
[Fired GM CEO Bad]
Rick
Wagoner was GM’s CEO. Obama fired him, no notice, no probationary
period, just a summary “Get Out!” Where in the hell was there any
semblance of due process, how can this have happened? GM is the victim
of massive labor costs. The Unions, have killed the Golden Goose named
GM. But Wagoner has become the scapegoat, his firing is strictly
political. Obama requires scapegoats for cover. Last week’s target was
the bonus babies from AIG. The world knows that their bonuses were
specifically authorized by the Obama regime, but they took the scapegoat
roasting. There will be plenty more scapegoats. This monstrosity by
Obama would alarm and shame every one of our founding fathers. Obama has
seized the power to summarily execute the careers of execs who are
employed by companies that have been nationalized under the cover of a
“bailout”. There’s no doubt that these firings will be political, execs
who oppose the Obama doctrine will be eliminated. New execs who will
follow the party line will be appointed. Deer friends, we’re being
steered into a whirl pool. God save America! Get the background info.

[Longevity]
A doctor on his morning walk, noticed an older lady sitting on her front
step smoking a cigar, so he walked up to her and said, "I couldn't help
but notice how happy you look! What is your secret?" "I smoke ten cigars
a day," she said. "Before I go to bed, I smoke a nice big joint. Apart
from that, I drink a whole bottle of Jack Daniels every week, and eat
only junk food. On weekends, I pop pills, and don't exercise at all."
"That is absolutely amazing! How old are you?" "Thirty-four," she
replied. |

What’s up with the captains bashing each other? In the old days
all the serious boaters and fisherman were captains. In fact we
all would meet out on our favorite flat and enjoy a cold beer and some
good bud that one of the captains found. You new captains are too
uptight and need to get a life or a different occupation |
|
[Captain’s
License] To get the official title of captain you must first pass a
knowledge written exam given by the Coast Guard. Most take a exam prep
course given by a private school. Then you must prove 360 logged days
on the water for the entry level license. A small fee with a background
check and you are a captain.
To
work under your license you must then register for a random drug testing
program with a pre enrollment test that you must pay for. Then you must
pass another background check for your TWIC (transportation workers
identification card) for yet another fee. Not to mention the list of
licenses issued by federal, state and local governments to take people
fishing and work in the county. |

[Captain] I can’t stand when a guy introduces me as as "Captain

here than boats for sale, more captains than bar stools. The Captain
thing is way over the top! |

I
don’t see what is so old about Ray and Mary. They led good lives.
I used to get off the school bus and wash dishes for Ray. I got 2
dollars an hour. What good times we had. Jim Perigory was cooking,
later, manager Doris Leopold was running the “sharecropper” (coffee
shop). Loli Dorezi ran the Vista Linda; and of course, Al and Jane at
the Big Pine Inn. They’re all gone now; Ernie Smith, Pat, Paul Buress,
Max Crane, Mac, Art (dad), Ginny (mom) waitresses at all of them. How
about Ceily Leopld or Dick Leopold. Margret Wright and Bill? Too many to
name. This island will never see so much fun ever again. So who’s old?
It isn’t me. ~The do nothing gang. |

Did you see Dan Schwab’s cartoon in the KW Citizen

[Cuba Opens Doors] Where did the poster get the number as 30,000
invaders hit the Keys? Certainly they did not come to go to Cuba. They
probably came to the Keys to take a crap under a bridge after they saw
the price of hotel rooms, the crap they call food, the crap they call
service and all the other crap the Keys are nationally known for. |

[Jackie
Paper of Puff the Magic Dragon was a boy before you got involved]
Sorry Cheech. Your riffing on sexual ambiguity escapes those of us who
didn’t skin up a “fatty” for breakfast. Face it. You’re a pothead.
That’s okay for you. Just get over the “harmless part”. You’re probably
nice to animals and old people and that’s commendable, but you’re still
a pothead who uses drugs as a reward system that compensates for some
early childhood trauma. Your life may well be manageable now, but high
bottoms have trap doors. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but soon
you will be faced with an illness, an arrest, a dry spell, an inner
deadness or, at the very least, a spiritual bottom; something that will
get in the way of your using dope. And then you might understand the
concept of humility. Maybe even honesty and open mindedness. I know
drugs and I know drug addicts. The propensity for rationalizing the most
outrageous nonsense is legendary. You can do anything you want to
yourself, but if you try to lead impressionable young people down a road
of lies I will fight you with words! |

Joe Biden
most certainly is not an individual that I hold in high esteem, I
consider him to be a foolish loud mouth. Nonetheless, I’m pleased to see
that the vast majority of the media has completely ignored the familial
difficulties currently facing him, his family, and the Obama
administration. Biden’s 27 year old daughter, Ashley, was caught on
video, at a party, snorting several lines of cocaine. The individual who
took the video hired lawyers and tried to sell the video for in excess
of $250K. Given the fact that Biden is the Vice President of the United
States and presents himself as a “tireless crusader against drugs”, one
would assume that the major media would pounce on this story, that
assumption would be ill founded. The major media has totally ignored it,
but the truth of the story can be found by simply running a Google
inquiry. The fact is, the story should be ignored, because the frailties
of Biden’s daughter probably are not a factor in his performance as VP.
But you should wonder why the major media did not give the Palin family
the same courtesy when it was learned that 18 year old Bristol Palin was
pregnant out of wedlock. The fact of an out of wedlock pregnancy is
routine, about 40% of all births are out of wedlock. The grotesque fact
is that the major media no longer feel any responsibility to be fair and
impartial in their delivery of the news. They take rapacious glee in
attacking virtually every facet of life in the Palin family, or any
other Conservative public figure. The attacks on Limbaugh continue
apace. The media gave Obama a pass when they nearly ignored our
Presidents cruel humor in denigrating special needs children such as
Palin’s youngest child. They should beware, because if the socialist
society that they currently champion comes to full power, one of the
first targets of a socialist regime will be freedom of the press. |

[Body painting; classier with twenty year olds] Not classier,
but definitely more scenic. |
Rules for the Non-Military
Dear Civilians, We know that the current state of affairs in our great
nation has many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military.
For those of you who can' t join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a
few of the areas where we would like your assistance:*
1. The next time you see any adults talking (or wearing a hat) during
the playing of the National Anthem - kick their ass.
2. When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in
protest - kick their ass.
3. Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest
amount of respect to all veterans. If you see anyone doing otherwise,
quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the
very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many
sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them
down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.
4. If you were never in the military, do not pretend that you were.
Wearing battle dress uniforms or Jungle Fatigues, telling others that
you used to be ' Special Forces. Collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might
have been okay when you were seven years old, now, it will only make you
look stupid and get your ass kicked.
5. Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, ' Do
you fly a jet? ' Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot.
Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).
6 .If you witness someone calling the US Coast Guard ' non-military ' ,
inform them of their mistake - and kick their ass.
7. Next time Old Glory passes by during a parade, get on your damn feet
and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly
thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her -
of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe
ass-kicking.
8. Don't try to discuss politics with a military member or veteran. We
are Americans, and we all bleed the same, regardless of our party
affiliation. Our Chain of Command is to include our Commander-In-Chief (CinC).
The President (for those who didn't know) is our CinC Regardless of
political party. We have no inside track on what happens inside those
big important buildings where all those representatives meet. All we
know is that when those civilian representatives screw up the situation,
they call upon the military to go straighten it out. If you keep asking
us the same stupid questions repeatedly, you will get your ass kicked.
9. ' Your mama wears combat boots ' never made sense to me - stop saying
it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore would kick
your ass!
10. Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying ' Let's
go kill those Commies! ' And stop asking us where he is!
Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military. That reminds me -
if you see anyone calling those damn psychic phone numbers, let me know,
so I can go kick their ass!
11. ' Flyboy ' (Air Force), ' Jarhead ' (Marines), ' Grunt ' (Army), '
Squid ' (Navy), ' Puddle Jumpers ' (Coast Guard), etc., are terms of
endearment we use describing each other.
Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to
use them. Using them could get your ass kicked.
12. Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the
military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and
religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please
remember that there are literally thousands of soldiers, sailors,
marines and airmen far from home wishing; they could be with their
families.. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every
day. Without them, our Country would get it's ass kicked.
13. If you ever see anyone either standing for or singing the national
anthem in Spanish - kick their ass.
It's the Veteran, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the
press.
It's the Veteran, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech.
It's the Veteran, not the community organizer, who gives us the freedom
to demonstrate.
It's the Military who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and
whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the
flag. |

[Tax
Collector] I spent half a day battling the tax collector in KW over
their dysfunctional system. Their assessment and tax bill didn't match.
Though I paid what they wanted the first time, they kept sending me
reminders of fines if I didn't pay up by Mar 31. I got it straightened
out at the Court House before going to the tax collector's office.
There I had to argue again with some arrogant broad who thought she
could afford to treat me like a derelict. I got it all straightened
out, though it took face to face interventions and wiring their heads
and asses together. What good are computers when data input artistes
are morons? This is the problem when we vote in and hire the
functionally inept who cannot perform real tasks at real jobs, who then
create more jobs for themselves to keep food on their plates and make a
mess of everything else. Fire them all! |

[If
You Disagree With Me Leave the USA] Republicans get your head out of
your butt cheeks, wipe your noise off and open your eyes. You all have
been drinking to much Kool aid. I have never read so much propaganda in
my life. When I read the Telegraph I feel like I am listening to FOX
News. If you don’t like the way the country is being run, leave. The
last eight years have put us in this financial situation, not the last
100 days. Hell, I bet you boys even drive a non-union foreign cars. Its
time you move to Alabama. |

Keys AHEC is excited
to offer new locations for free exercise and healthy life classes for
adults 55 or older. The classes, with new locations starting in Key
West and Marathon, are Enhance Fitness and Living Healthy.
Enhance Fitness is designed to meet the physical needs of seniors. It
is a socially stimulating class that focuses on stretching, strength
training, low-impact aerobics and balance, and “is a whole lot of fun,”
according to participants.
Enhance Fitness classes are one hour, three days a week for 16 weeks. A
new class began on Monday, March 23rd at Keys Senior Plaza, Key West,
and runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 – 3 p.m. New
participants are welcome to join any time in the first month of class.
Living Healthy is a workshop series focusing on self-management of
ongoing health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease or
high blood pressure. Living Healthy focuses on individual goal setting
and step-by-step ways to improve the health and life of yourself or the
person you care for. “The workshops put me back in charge of my life,
and I feel great. I only wish I had done this sooner,” said a recent
participant.
Living Healthy workshops are two and a half hours, one day a week for
six weeks. New classes began on Tuesday, March 24th at Keys Senior
Plaza, Key West from 1 – 3:30 p.m. and on Wednesday, April 1st at
Fisherman’s Hospital, Marathon from 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. Participants are
welcome to join in the second week of class.

locations are being added weekly. Please contact KEYS AHEC if you are
interested in a class but one is currently not offered in your area. For

[Their god and those 24 virgins] I guess the recession has spread

[Trim the Fat] It might be a good idea now that we have to cut
back to survive, to trim some of the fat cats from local governments.
Fire the useless seat warmers and make them get real jobs. |
[Just
Say No] The anti marijuana posts on this site inspired me to do an
experiment. I am currently on day 4 of cannabis abstinence. I smoked my
first joint at age 18 (1969) and have enjoyed the herb on a daily basis
ever since (except for an occasional break of a few weeks and even a 6
month period). I have not experienced any cravings, shakes,
irritability, insomnia or negativity of any sort. The only effect I had
was more vivid (and weird) dreams. I intend to keep it up until the last
THC leaves my body which I have heard can take weeks. When I spark up
that first big fatty I'll be tripping my brains out. |

[Why middle age
women should not drink] You're right. it wouldn't be any classier,
but it would sure look a whole lot better. Momma always told me
everything has a place, and those things don't belong around your
ankles, they belong on your chest! |
[Harold
Koh]
President Obama has nominated Harold Koh to be the State Department's
legal adviser. Some of his duties would be handling international
agreements on issues from trade to arms control to representing America
in the UN and the International Court of Justice.
Mr. Koh believes; 'US
judges should interpret the United States Constitution according to
Other Nation's Legal Norms.' He's also stated; 'The United States
constitutes an axis of disobedience along with North Korea & Saddam era
Iraq'. Mr. Koh also believes 'American judges' should use Canadian,
European Human Rights Commission & UN decisions on like/similar cases to
base their decisions on here in America. One instance would be to
abolish the death penalty, permitted in the US Constitution, but not
accepted by the above entities.
He has even stated
that "in an appropriate case, he didn't see any reason why Sharia law
would not be applied to govern a case in the United States courts."
This appointment is a direct attack to change America's court system and
the Constitution.
To all Obama
supporters out there, Obama himself has laid his cards on the table so
even you can see his motives thru those hazy eyes. You haven't begun to
hear people bitch, so belly up to the Kool aid stand and drink up fast! |
|
[57
is not that old] I got shoes older than that. I’m just pulling your
leg about the good old days. I remember them and smile. My wife and I
grew up here and we are just a little older than you. Marathon, Big Pine
Key and Key West were all much kinder and gentler back then. We
have raised our kids here they are 3rd generation Keys kids. |

This ass-whipped Republican would not bother bitching about the

the way our forefathers envisioned it. |

[Putney Ethics
Complaint] I would like to clarify your front page story “Putney
cleared on ethics complaint” in the News-Barometer dated March
27, 2009. A multi-count ethics complaint was filed in July 2008. The
complaint contained allegations of 7 violation counts each for 31
separate votes/actions taken by Ms. Putney during her two-years on the
planning commission. The Florida Ethics Commission’s procedure is that
an ethics attorney and executive director review the complaint and
determine whether “probable cause” exist which warrants an
investigation. The allegations were noted to be sufficient to warrant
such investigation. The five-year statute of limitation rule was applied
and only one allegation fell within this the time limit allowed for
investigation; i.e. the September 10, 2003 vote. The other counts were
not investigated nor allowed to be considered by the Ethics Commission
because they were time-barred. The Report of Investigation addressing
one count was released on December 12, 2008 . On March 6, 2009 , that
one vote was presented to the Ethics Commission which resulted in the
Public Report.
Ms. Putney was
cleared on only one ethics charge based on a technicality. We
respectfully disagree as explained below.
The one vote
investigated by the Ethics Commission was the September 10, 2003 vote on
the Livable CommuniKeys Master Plan for Big Pine Key and No Name Key.
The Complaint alleged that as a homeowner on No Name Key which had only
40 permanent residents at the time of her vote, Ms. Putney had a special
private interest in controlling development and prohibiting commercial
power to No Name Key and she used her position on the Planning
Commission to further her personal agenda. The Commission was not
allowed to consider prior actions by Ms. Putney related to this one
vote. The Commission Advocate noted that the “size of the affected
class must be examined.” The Commission determined that the “affected
class” of Ms. Putney’s vote would not be limited to the 40 permanent
homes on No name Key but would also include all residents of Big Pine
Key for a total of 5072 homes. The conclusion was that “[B]ecause the
vote in question affected both islands, the total class is large and
Respondent’s interest and benefit would not be special or private.” We
respectfully disagree with the Ethics Commission’s decision that Big
Pine Key should have been included in the total affected class. While
the Master Plan does include both islands, No Name Key is subjected to
much more restrictive regulations and different regulations than Big
Pine Key and the prohibition against commercial power is only one of the
onerous restrictions.
Ms. Putney’s role in
drafting and enacting the onerous legislation (Ord. 043-2001)
prohibiting all utilities to No Name Key in 2001 and the erroneous
inclusion of the East-End subdivision into the Coastal Barrier Resource
System in 1990 which subjected some homes on No Name Key to the CBRS
Overlay were not part of the investigation or ruling as you
indicated in your article.
Likewise, the Ethics
Commission did not address the allegation that Ms. Putney had a voting
conflict based on the fact that she and her husband were named parties
in the electricity litigation beginning in September 2001 and that Ms.
Putney lobbied the Board to deny the Court’s Proposed Settlement as
recommended by the County Attorney . The District Court of Appeals
dismissed the lawsuit appeal on June 26, 2003 which was shortly prior to
the Ms. Putney’s vote on September 10, 2003 . Therefore, consideration
of this ethics count which went to Ms. Putney’s motive for the September
10th vote was time barred.
Also time barred were
the allegations, supported by sworn testimony, that Ms. Putney while on
the planning commission was also representing the solar community and
soliciting and accepting cash from members of that group to finance her
activities to prevent commercial power to the island.
The residents are
prepared for civil action against Ms. Putney as the courts are not time
barred and the damages resulting from Ms. Putney’s activities are
continuing to occur. |
[Pistachios]
Federal food safety officials warned Monday that consumers should stop
eating all foods containing pistachios while they figure out the source
of a possible salmonella contamination.
Still reeling from the national salmonella outbreak in peanuts, the Food
and Drug Administration said central California-based Setton Pistachio
of Terra Bella Inc., the nation's second-largest pistachio processor,
was voluntarily recalling a portion of the roasted nuts it has been
shipping since last fall. A Setton spokeswoman said that amounts to more
than 2 million pounds of nuts |

[Smaller
Portions] At least one local business has decided to add Obama
stimulus specials to their fare. I suppose you could argue the wisdom of
bringing politics to a local business. In any event, the proprietor has
hit it right on the button: the specials feature about half of the
product of the original, at a slightly reduced quality, at about three
quarters of the price of the original. What a deal, it’s just like a new
deal. At least for now, you are not required to buy, but Obama is
working on that. |

on Bush Key in the Tortugas. And - Save-a-Turtle sets out to protect
nesting beaches every year to increase the chances of the recovery of
the sea turtle
7:00 pm The Cousteau Adventure Series -- SEA GHOSTS ! (Beluga Whales)
There are places on this planet where it's a marvel that anything
survives. But in the cold Arctic waters of the far north, the sea is
alive with sound. The canaries of the sea are singing. They're beluga
whales, named from the Russian word for "white ones." They're an
evolutionary surprise-a warm-blooded mammal in a numbingly cold sea..
Resembling curious ghosts, these intelligent mammals use one of the most
complex sonars of any animal.
Belugas inhabiting Cook Inlet, close to Anchorage, were added to the
list of endangered species in October 2008. The National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration stated that a decade-long recovery program
had failed to ensure the whales' survival. The relationship between
people and belugas is ancient. For more than 4,000 years, hunters of the
north have depended on these whales for their own survival in a land
with little to offer. These traditional cultures have now partnered with
scientists and modern technology to protect the beluga, which in turn,
ensures their own future. Yet these efforts are only a small part of the
story as new discoveries have raised troubling questions about the
health of belugas and their long-term survival.

Wednesday April 15th
6:30 pm , Waterways Episode 254: Tortugas Research Natural Area and
Sanctuary Buoy Team!
Dry Tortugas
National Park is much more than the islands and historic Fort Jefferson.
In fact, 99.8% is marine! That is why on January 19, 2007, approximately
46 square miles of Dry Tortugas National Park was declared off limits
to.fishing and, eventually, to anchoring. Called the Research Natural
Area this area is considered a necessary complement to the
151-square-mile Tortugas Ecological Reserve. And - Buoys have become an
integral part of the local conservation strategies to protect coral
reefs from anchor damage. For the past two and half decades, the staff
of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary has provided mooring buoys
for public use, sharing its expert knowledge of design and maintenance20
with the international community.
7:00 pm The Cousteau Adventure Series : CALL OF THE KILLER WHALE
(120min)
The most complex marine species on the planet, our counterparts in the
sea, are the orca, the ruler of the ocean. They are the most widely
distributed marine mammal in the world. Their realm extends from the
Arctic to the Antarctic. Orcas, also called killer whales, number fewer
than 100,000 worldwide, and learning more about them is a global
endeavor for Jean-Michel Cousteau and his team of explorers, who travel
to both the northern and southern hemispheres as they seek out killer
whales in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Movies are free. Seating limited to 74. |

I cannot believe
it, I just went through the
Windows
Vista Computer Management section of the OS.
Reading each description tells me that 90% of the
Automatic
crap is SPYWARE! The Manuel and Deleted stuff is just there to be
used if necessary, but is not SPYWARE. Even if the system if OFF,
it will wake up and send data logs and other info to ???. It
doesn't have to energize the MTR or anything except the HD and the
Net tools. Shutting off the power and internet connection, makes no
difference because when you go back online these routines dump
instantly. Then the bastards got the code so entangled with each
other that turning one thing off screws up something else that has
to be on and associated. This makes me nervous! Talk about Big Bro! |

Republicans' Get a life!!! Are you blind?
There are no winners or losers. One man got elected, the other
didn’t. Why don’t you look at it that way? Now, seeing as your man
got elected put PARTY aside and observes what he is doing to the
country and your way of life. I am as patriotic as the next man and
maybe more than some. If you can not see that the things this
President has implemented and or intends to implement are bad for
the country than God help us all. You are probably not alone, and
that is what is scary. You have your view and I have mine. I still
believe in a free America, I don’t believe in Socialism. I cannot
trust a man who says one thing one day and does the complete
opposite the next. Hell, why even try to convince you. You can’t
see the forest for the trees. |
|
DEMOCRATS, get
some sense. You guys won the election; you got what you thought that
you wanted. I know that the old Democrat party was a party of
patriotic Americans who simply had a slightly different political
center than the Republicans. Democrats and Republicans alike loved
America. The people in power today do not. They are scathingly
critical of our nation, it's routine for them denigrate our nation
when speaking to foreign audiences. I refuse to believe that the
people now in power are real Democrats. These folks are hell bent on
gutting capitalism, restricting our freedoms, and plunging America
into Socialism. They have even established Orwellian “Newspeak”
They’ve coined new words, bastardized our language. Now they call
seizing businesses “resolution” and they call a terrorist attack a
“man caused disaster”. Their governance bears precious little
resemblance to the promises they made during the campaign. These
people think that it is fair and proper to take one persons property
for the sole purpose of giving it to another person who has less.
Obama has declared that our Constitution is nothing more than a
document of “Negative Liberties”. They are in progress of forming a
“National Civilian Security Force” with the budget and
powers of the military. The name says it all. My Dad was a Democrat;
he was a fair and honorable man. But these people are vile and evil;
they are fully dedicated to bringing America down to the oppression
of Socialism. I pray that the real Democrats will soon recognize the
truth about the Obama agenda. |

[WAKE
UP AND GET UP THE FREEKIN ROAD!] Road Rage at its finest. The
"posted 55 mph zone" is the speed "Limit", not the required speed.
There can be many reasons to not drive at the full limit: driving
conditions including weather and visibility, new to the area and
looking for their destination, vehicle limitations. I am sure there
are many more.
I agree that if you are driving below the speed limit, on a
road with one lane, you should be aware of the traffic behind you
and, if it is safe to do so, occasionally pull off the road to allow
the traffic to pass. Unfortunately this takes some common sense that
few have or use and we will never be able to control how others
choose to live their lives.
By the way,
the difference in time spent on the road between driving a steady 40
mph and 55 mph, with no stops, is as follows: 10 mile trip would
take 15 minutes at 40 mph and 11 minutes at 55. That is a savings of
a full 4 minutes. Even if you are stuck behind a slow driver for 30
miles your total loss of time would only be 12 minutes. that amount
of time is certainly not worth the dangers and tragedies that come
with ROAD RAGE, even to your own mental health. I might suggest you
tune into your favorite music radio station and enjoy the ride. |

"Johnny Paper" /
"Jackie Paper". The "Johnny" insertion was intentional in order to
assert a definite masculine tone. In following the ongoing
"legalize pot" debate on this site, it was thought perhaps a little
comic relief was in order. Evidently, some people just don't get it
though. It must suck to enjoy humorless, self-imposed misery.
"Dick, Jane and
Spot", you say? Perhaps you should educate yourself in the area of
idiomatic expression and metaphoric humor. Lighten up, laugh a
little. The posting was merely intended to evoke THAT emotion.
For your
information, the person who posted the "Johnny Paper..." item is not
a "stoner". One can only wonder if Hades is full of those poor souls
who just don't know how to smile.

The Continuing

We Welcome Our
New Monkey Overlords: Researchers recently revealed that they had
observed monkeys planning future combat. A researcher from Sweden's
Lund University, writing in the journal Current Biology, described a
daily ritual of a 30-year-old chimpanzee that loathes his human
visitors at a zoo north of Stockholm and thus begins every morning
by roaming his enclosure to collect stones and place them
strategically in handy piles for subsequently hurling at irksome
visitors. |

[Republicans Get
a life!!!] Here's a news flash, the kool-aid is wearing off! It's
NOT just Reps speaking out against the chosen one! Independents,
Dems, Europe, China & others around the world don't want the change
Obama offers! The real con has been exposed.
You've 'Never
heard such vile, evil spewing, anti-American dripple of doom and
despair'? Were you stoned or drunk the last 8 years of left wing
Dems bashing Bush, America & calling our troops baby killers?
Anti-American dribble? Ask your 2 top leaders why they voted AGAINST
a law banning the desecration of our American flag. Ask Obama why he
even "Thought of" requiring wounded American troops to pickup the
tabs for their own war injuries & why he wants to rewrite the 2nd
Amendment?
Dems cried liked
little babies Bush's 8yr deficits were too big & they would bankrupt
America. Your man has created more debt than 'All The Presidents
before him combined, in 69 days'! Now many Dems worry they will be
voted out of office come 2010 due to Obama's vision of change & wild
spending!
Obama used the
CBO's cost estimates against Bush as gospel during the campaign. Now
he claims the CBO's estimates on 'his plans' are completely wrong,
interesting! Many knew this administration would be on a path to
change America, that's why we voted no to Obama. There's about 1392
days left for the rest of Americans to evaluate Obama's promise of
change. Good luck coping.

Captain Rich: AKA
Porky & the Cardinal
You just don’t get it do you? The locals and Snow Birds in the Keys
love Captain Robert and all that he brings to the keys. We haven't
been to a bar or restaurant that doesn't know and love him. Such a
sense of humor and just an all around nice guy! We know how you
distort the truth and we could care less if you tried to convince us
that he sunk the Titanic.
Now you two on the other hand have made all of us decide that you
are now our full time reporting job until you head back to Colorado
or California or anywhere in between.
If the state provides you with free housing and an orange jump suit
we will still drive by without stopping when we see you working on
the side of the road but this time we will all honk and wave. We
heard that a little work, ok maybe a lot of work may even help get
you back in shape. Playing Xbox all day and night may strengthen
your fingers but it won’t help the rest of your body to get back in
shape. Staying healthy is important and when you run on the
treadmill at home, we heard that you may want to close up your BPK
place a little better so the photographers don’t get any more
pictures.
I for one will send all my stuff to livinadream as they seem to be
getting all the good e-mails with the latest and the greatest about
you two.
When I go to sleep at night I can’t wait to wake up in the morning
and read who wrote what about Porky & the Cardinal. This is better
than “As the World Turns” or in the keys "As the ocean churns" which
has been on TV for ever. OK well may be not as good but certainly a
close second. At least with this forum we can go back and read
reruns in the archives easier than trying to watch old reruns of the
TV soaps.
I have to agree with an earlier posting about you, there maybe a
book or movie deal in this after all but I don’t know who will play
you since Haus Cartwright, from “Bonanza” passed away.
Keep up the
entertainment. It's so much better than tv! ~ Custom [harleyridinbabe@gmail.com] |

your thing that's fantastic! But being naive is just plain stupid &
as we know there is no cure for stupid! If the bible is truly God's
word than Matthew 5:38 remains the solution: 'Ye have heard that it
hath been said, 'an eye for an eye, & a tooth for a tooth'. Suitcase

did not have enough days of training, from what I hear, and everyone
has been so excited waiting for it to open, that they all decided to
go on the first day. If you have never worked in a restaurant
before, especially a new one, then you should not judge. Think about
your first day of work, tons of paper in the in box and barely any
in the out box at the end of the day, how do your coworkers see you
and judge you? |

Greetings from
the Florida Keys. I am writing this Sunday evening and it is a
beautiful night in the Keys. I have had a great week because my
family has been down from Indiana. We boated, swam, boated some more
and swam more to the point everyone was worn out. Friday was their
last day before heading north and I was very proud of the fact that
my feet never saw shoes all day. The dogs did decide to go for a
swim in the ocean and although we try to teach them they must ask
permission prior to taking the plunge, it does not always happen.
Not that I do not like them to swim, I love it but imagine you are
getting ready to meet some folks for dinner and just before leaving
you let the dogs out for one last run around the property. You open
the door to let the dogs in and so we can leave but they look much
different than only moments before. They’re soaking wet and anxious
to run in the house and jump on the bed.
We had our last concert at The San Carlos Theater on Thursday and
had such a great time as usual. This concert series has been beyond
words. During our run there, we were Knighted by the great Sean
Fisher from Mel Fisher Treasures, the theater survived the great
fire and we were made honorary citizens of Cuba. As you can imagine,
we did not want it to end. A special thank you to Alex for
everything you have done. But as I smoke a wonderful cigar, sip some
Cuban rum, I realize it is time to start the bus and head the circus
out of town.
We are heading to Duluth Georgia for the Atlanta Parrot Head Club’s
20th Anniversary celebration. In case you don’t know it, Atlanta
was the very first Parrot Head club and what they did 20 years ago
has evolved into over 230 clubs and 26,000 members all over the
world. We are very honored to be a part of this special event. There
is a full day of music and partying at Wild Bill’s Dance Club and
Concert Hall. The fun starts at 3 PM and goes into the wee hours. To
catch the full day of fun and great music you’ll need a VIP ticket.
You can get the details at the
Atlanta Parrothead website.
We play at 7:30 PM until 9:30 PM on the main stage and this is open
to the public, so if you are in the Atlanta area you better come out
and hang with us. Following us will be A1A and Nadirah Shakoor from
Jimmy Buffet’s band. All this fun is to support the Atlanta
Community Food Bank. If you want a ticket for the evening only,
tickets are available through
Ticketmaster and the
Wild Bill’s website.
Also, talking of great causes, don’t forget to vote for me! I am

Conch

back.

BUY HIS HAT!
That’s right.. You know the turquoise hats that he wears while
performing? We used to sell those hats but quit selling them about
a year ago. Normally the only way to get one is to wait until
Howie’s worn it a few times, then Cyndy will wash it, Howie signs
it, and when the time is right, he’ll throw it out to the crowd from
the stage. Well… now we’re selling those signed hats (brand new
even!) and the proceeds go to his election as
Duke
Exemplar of the Conch Republic Royal Family (which
actually goes to the
Conch
Republic Foster Children's Fund). You can purchase
a signed hat for a donation of $100.00. Details on this
webpage. Vote Early –
Vote Often!! Voting ends April 17th. |

It was thought
provoking reading yesterday’s posting by a pot proponent who whined about
other people whining about things that interest them. The addle pate wants
only to read about what HE wants to read about. The one thing
that all pot puffers have in common is an incredibly ego centric view of
life. “I don’t care what you say man, I don’t care what it costs man, or or
or what harm it does man; it makes ME feel good man. Legalize
it!”! The posting is really unique though, it’s the first posting I’ve read
that had a dozen lines and a dozen thoughts, but only one period. Plus it
had no capital letters (except when the poster was typing loud). It’s
interesting, but typical, that the pot puffer considers himself empowered by
Obama’s insulting comment about the Special Olympic children. Undoubtedly
this dude is hooked on Obama’s promises to give him milk and honey without
working for it. Plus you’ve got to wonder why the pot puffer had to toss in
a couple of gratuitous insults to Piners. He insults us then he preaches
love and comity! I think that it’s possible the pot puffer was stoned during
the school years that they taught spelling, sentence construction, grammar,
and civics. Let’s help him out: the phrase “witch buy the way” should be
“which, by the way”. Unless of course you are instructing a conjuror to
purchase the “way”. Dolt. |

Meet
Vince Shlomi. He's probably better known to you as the ShamWow Guy, the
ubiquitous television pitchman who has been phenomenally successful peddling
absorbent towels and food choppers. Shlomi, 44, was arrested last month on a
felony battery charge following a violent confrontation with a prostitute in
his South Beach hotel room. According to an arrest affidavit, Shlomi met
Sasha Harris, 26, at a Miami Beach nightclub on February 7 and subsequently
retired with her to his $750 room at the lavish Setai hotel. Shlomi told
cops he paid Harris about $1000 in cash after she "propositioned him for
straight sex." Shlomi said that when he kissed Harris, she suddenly "bit his
tongue and would not let go." Shlomi then punched Harris several times until
she released his tongue. The affidavit, a copy of which you'll find here,
notes that during the 4 AM fight Harris sustained facial fractures and
lacerations all over her face (she is pictured here in mug shots snapped
following busts in 2008 and 2005). After freeing his tongue, a bleeding
Shlomi ran to the Setai lobby, where security summoned cops. Harris refused
to cooperate with officers, who recovered $930 from her purse. "Both parties
had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from their persons,"
police reported. In a brief telephone interview, Harris declined to answer
TSG questions about her run-in with Shlomi, though she did say she is
considering a lawsuit against the pitchman. Asked if she worked as a hooker,
Harris declined comment. As seen in the below mug shot, Shlomi was also
injured during the fracas and, court records show, was treated at Mount
Sinai Medical Center. While Shlomi and Harris were both arrested for felony
aggravated battery, prosecutors this month declined to file formal charges
against the combatants. Police records list Shlomi's occupation as
"Marketing," but make no mention of his affiliation with the ShamWow or the
Slap Chop, both of which sell for $19.95 (plus shipping and handling).

From
the NAS Southernmost Flyer Friday 27 March:
Predator Control NAS, in cooperation with the FWS and Wildlife Services
(USDA, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service), has implemented a long
term LKMR predator control program. The program includes the removal of
feral cats and raccoons from LKMR habitat. Incidence of LKMR sightings have
increased greatly since inception of the predator control program and,
unlike the other two LKMR subpopulations, abundance and distribution has
been maintained or increased on NAS Key West. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service has worked in cooperation with the military for more than 40 years
to conserve fish and wildlife resources found on the 30 million acres of
land owned and managed by the Department of Defense. These lands are
valuable to maintaining survival and diversity for many important species.

Special to the
Democrat true believer who panned Cheney and puffed Obama by the quoting
Cheney: “deficits don’t matter”. What Cheney actually said was “"You know,
Paul, Reagan proved deficits don't matter..”. Cheney was talking with soon
to be fired Treasury Secretary, Paul O’Neil. O’Neal wanted to raise taxes.
Cheney argued against it. Cheney won. At the time of that conversation they
were worried about the deficit rising to $5 BILLION. Obama
wants to saddle us with a deficit of $9.3 TRILLION.
Bush’s deficit is like a piss stream compared to Obama’s Washington/Chicago
sewer flow of spending. If
our nation avoids bankruptcy, our great grandchildren will pay a huge
percentage of every paycheck just to service the interest on Obama's debt. |

Listen up,
if your one of those people who are driving through the Keys say, after
11-11:30 at night, please remove your head from your ass before you turn the
key. Going 40-47 mph in a posted 55 mph zone, at 11:30 at night, is just
plain ignorant. There are other people out on the road at that time, and if
you would please take that into consideration and atleast go the freekin
speed limit. If you don't want to, (and I AM proposing a choice here) then
pull the frick over and let the mile of cars behind you get on with their
lives. Some of us have just gotten off work, and yes still sober, and would
like nothing better than to get home to relax.
We do respect the highway by not passing you in fright of having an
accident, and that theres hardly any safe places to pass, but your
inconsiderable behavior night after night, is starting to really piss some
people off, specifically me, (that's why I'm writing this) so please, for
the betterment of mankind, and to save multitudes of sanity,
WAKE UP AND GET UP
THE FREEKIN ROAD! before some of us, bill laden, kid
strickened, over taxed people start taking matters into our own hands !! |

To
those angry readers, now we can criticize Obama's policies & cover local
issues too! Monroe County is revamping their responce to mass Cuban
imigration! Fears Obama's plan to ease travel restrictions with Cuba might
spur another huge wave of migrants to the keys worries residents &
politicians. Could the 30,000 migrants who landed in the keys in 1994 be
surpassed.
Don't fear, Obama will be calling all his loyal keys supporters to house &
feed all our new guests. No taxpayer funds will be needed! In the spirit of
change, Obama's consoretium of voters, business interests & overseas
donaters will foot the huge cost of relocation. What's next? Reparations for
African-Americans Bill # H.R.40. Establish a Commission Studying Reparation
Proposals for African Americans. Examine slavery & discrimination in the US
& recommend appropriate 'remedies'. This too will have local ties. |

A Midget in Texas went to the doctor .... ... because his testicles
ached almost all the time. The doctor told him to stand on the examining
table and drop his pants. The doc put one finger under his left testicle and
told the midget to turn his head and cough (the usual method to check for a
hernia). "Aha!" mumbled the doc and putting his finger under the right
testicle, he asked the midget to turn and cough again. "Aha!" said the
doctor and reached for his surgical scissors.
Snip, snip, snip, snip on the right side; snip, snip, snip, snip, snip,
snip, snip, on the left side.
The midget was so scared he was afraid to look, but noted with
amazement that the snipping did not hurt The doctor then told the midget to
get dressed and see if his testicles still ached.
The midget was absolutely delighted as he walked around the doc's office and
discovered his testicles were no longer aching..
The midget replied, "Perfect Doc, and I didn't even feel it. What did you
do?"
The doctor replied, "I cut two inches off the top of your cowboy boots.." |

[Criticizing FHP] My brother is an FHP officer and our family is very proud
of him. He has a very difficult job and faces death every day of the job.
He comes home and acts like "nothing happened today" in front of his
children and family. It is a job that I could never do. He never speaks of
the loony that he stopped doing 65 mph in a school zone or the individual
who gets out with of the vehicle firing a gun just because he stopped him
because the driver's tail light is out, or the death and cartilage he sees
because of the drunk driver. I only learn of the horrible dangerous he
faces in court as I try to prosecute such cases. I have traveled all over
the United States and I cannot tell you the relief I feel after crossing the
Florida state line and when I see that first FHP car. Relief, home, someone
keeping us safe from the drunk or drugged driver, the nuts on the road,
someone always watching and willing to stop and help. Florida citizens
should be very proud and thankful for every FHP vehicle they past on the
road! If you are law abiding they are there to protect you: if you are
there breaking the law we trust that they will get you off the road and make
the unknowing residents safe. Thank you FHP and God Bless everyone of you
who choose this profession. It is an honorable career and the public is
forever indebted to you for protection of the roads we travel and cannot
even image the danger that lurks before us! |

just delete your email without bothering to read it! This seems to be the
trend in America today. People are trying to spread the word and save our
country but the VAST majority just doesn't give a damn. No wonder we are
laughed at and scorned as losers by the rest of the world who see us as the
lazy inept sheep we are turning into. Wake up America, we are being fed to

Let’s
hope that the Joe Biden and his daughter are given a lot more respect than
Sarah Palin and her family was given by a rapacious left wing media. Media
reports say that Biden’s daughter, Ashley, was captured on video snorting
several lines of cocaine. Ashley Biden has a previous arrest history. You
can be sure that Joe Biden who is reported to be “a tireless crusader
against drugs”, is horrified. I trust that most Conservatives will not
greet this news with sadistic glee, as did the left wingers in their
nauseating and ongoing slash and burn crusade against Sarah Palin and her
family. |

I went
with a few friends to the first day opening of the new Tiki bar restaurant
by the Seven Mile Bridge. I do realize that it was the first day and there
are always bugs to be worked out. However, the problems were so onerous
that I along with my friends will not be going back for quite some time.
All of us ordered cheese burgers of different well nesses from medium rare
to medium. All were served so over burnt that none of us could choke down
more than a few bites. That is the first time in forty five years that I
have left a burger unfinished. I tried the lobster bisque it tasted like
lumpy salty Velveeta. When the waitress asked us how it we told her and she
was completely indifferent. We then asked to talk to the manager. We were
told that he would be sent over, we waited about fifteen minutes, he could
not be bothered to show up. We paid our bill, left a too generous tip for
the waitress and just wont be going back, and will make sure our friends
know what to expect. |

Re: Captain Rich, AKA
Porky & the Cardinal
We saw a thoughtful request from Capt. Robert to stop writing about you two
and just pray for you but do to your Coast Guard response the other day and
the number of e-mails we receive about you two on a daily basis we are sorry
to inform Capt. Robert that we have to continue our postings because Porky &
the Cardinal just don’t get it. Since we don’t want to take up all the space
on the Coconut Telegraph we will select different e-m’s that cover the
highlights.
We will start with the countless number of e-mails we received from people
who drove by you when they saw you sitting on the side of the road with your
flashers on. Although most of them said that they usually stop and help
fellow motorists they felt that Porky would get more benefit from walking
then getting a ride.
We then heard about one of your former favorite couples clubs in the KW area
and it was rumored that one of you was really missed but the other, well you
can fill in the blanks for yourself, but 15-20 hours of treadmill time a day
might create a little more interest in you.
We also received an e-m from people in Ramrod Key who said that besides
evicting you they had a lot of things to discuss about you two including
that you rented their home on a weekly basis to vacationers. It seems that
you have made a business out of violating the Monroe County’s ordinance
prohibiting such rentals for several years. Maybe if the county provides you
with room and board and an orange jump suit for a few weekends or more will
help you understand the ordinance a little better.
Then we received notification of a collection notice listing Endless Summer
and an account ending in *******5152 requesting that one of you contact
them and bring this account current
Apparently BB&T is a West Virginia Recovery Dept. who has notified the
credit bureau about the late payment, missed payment or other defaults on
your account. They said that this information may be reflected in your
credit report.
We are all hoping that this does not hurt your credit score just incase you
need good credit should you decide to move again.
Don’t worry my friends we receive so much info on Porky and the Cardinal we
can keep you entertained with the truth for a long long time.
We are considering a you/we tip posting site with quarterly payouts for the
best stories, info and pictures you send us. We will continue to post your
info about these two and then we will post the best stories and let you, the
residents and snowbirds of the keys decide who should reap the rewards for
the best factual stories provided. Certainly any information provided that
generates a conviction will rank high in the selection process for payouts.
Thanks to you we may start putting a stop to those who think they are above
the law. ~ M R [livinadream1lm@gmail.com] |

[The Brown Shirts Are Coming
OK, so what do we do. Maybe instead of protesting the war in Iraq, we
should all stand at the light intersection of Big Pine and protest OBAMA’s
plan for AMERICA! Let’s go people, lets stand together. Let’s do something
that might make a difference for our children, our country. I know I am not
the only one who thinks this way. I bet a lot of the people that voted for
OBAMA are now thinking twice. All I here from people when I mention any of
this is “ it will never happen in America” WAKE UP!!!!!!! Look at what
happened to CUBA with Castro. Obama talks good shit, he tells you what you
want to hear. If we don’t do something soon, it might be too late. I don’t
know about the rest of you, but I kinda like the America I was raised in. I
don’t need the GOV. telling me when and where I can take a shit. |

Does anybody remember
George W. Bush? Lotsa folks just know that he was one of our worst
Presidents….ever. Those folks complained that one of his biggest “blunders”
was ballooning our national debt. Plenty of partisans got sunburned
tongues from bitching about it! Obama’s first year budget doubles Bush’s.
Obama’s deficit quadruples Bush’s. Obama’s public debt doubles Bush’s. All
of this is happening in only a couple of months. Bush had 6 years of
Republican control. Obama promises to spend more than all of the previous
43 Presidents…combined. But now His O-ness giggles and grins on TV shows
while our economy burns. He calls it “gallows humor”. Are you amused? |
|
Think about this:
Let’s say that you really don’t care one way or another about this
Socialized medicine controversy because you already have insurance that you
pay for, or because your boss provides (fully or partially) your health
coverage. Or maybe you're one of the many millions of people who are happy
with our system. Get ready because under the Obama scheme, your current
health insurance premiums will skyrocket. Your boss-provided health
insurance will be considered as income and would be taxed. And, even though
you already pay for your own coverage, you will pay additional taxes to
support Obama's socialized medicine. That, my friends, is the truth
about the pernicious falsehood of Obama’s promised middle class tax
decreases. |

understand that a number of state's are passing into law drug testing for
folks who receive welfare payments. The court case makes it very clear that
the money is being given in hopes the person becomes employed or retrained
for a new job.It goes on to make it very clear that most employer's will ask
for and get a drug test before giving you a job.It then points out that
until we get these folks off drugs they will not be able to be re-employed.It
all so state's that most of the folks that are working and giving money to
the welfare programs have to be or are on call for drug testing and the very
least we can do is make sure that they folks we are helping are ...Clean.
It makes perfect sense to me, what do ya think. |

Here-here! I thoroughly enjoyed the post entitled Acevedo Avarice. I
remember the case of the man who was caught stealing from the parking meters
in Key West. I also recall being incredulous when I learned of the
(so-called) sentence he received. It was a joke and a slap in the face of
the average law-abiding citizens who work hard and live honest here every
day.
I
would tend to agree that if the Acevedo folk and others are convicted of
grand theft, they could possibly get away with the same kind of punishment
as the former Public Works guy did. Of course in the context of this
subject matter, "punishment", would hardly be the proper term to be
applied. If and when such facts of the theft from our children are proven
in a court of law, and the culprit(s) are found guilty, I would hope that
the good and decent people of Monroe County would not allow the same farce,
that passed for justice in the meter bandit's case, to be repeated.
If an eventual verdict of a jury is "guilty" in the Acevedo
case, put the heartless bum(s) where they belong--in prison. It is way past
due to restore some credibility to public service in these Florida Keys.
That's my position and I'm sticking to it. |

nothing but high praise for the FHP & MC Sheriffs. 10 or so years ago FHP
started tailing us. He finally pulled us over in Marathon. He asked
for license, registration, insurance & to please get out of the truck. He
was extremely courteous & polite.
As I looked around, a
number of Sheriff cars were scattered around with all the deputies out of
their cars looking at me, Whoa! I've been stopped many times, but this was
really different. It turns out someone with the same type truck committed a
fire arms crime. When the trooper told me that my heart sank.
He didn't know if I
had a gun or not, yet was respectful, courteous & polite. My only regret was
I never got his name & wrote a letter to the FHP explaining how professional
this trooper acted. If you're out there sir, I'm sorry I never did what I
should have done. After watching the Calf. story where police were gunned
down at a traffic stop, I thought of that day & that trooper.
Law enforcement risk
their lives everyday & we should appreciate them much more than we do. The
dead shooter is a now hero & protesters are in the streets. Sharpton &
Jackson never condemned this shooting. A**hole racists are so damn
predictable! |

The election is over. It is time to repair friendships with the other
party.
Governor Sarah Palin is doing her part to do just that.
The rest of
the world cannot understand how, after bitter election
campaigns,
American politicians can kiss and make-up.
For
instance, Gov. Palin has invited, to her great state of Alaska ,
the men who
defeated her, Barack Obama and Joe Biden. She has set up a
moose
hunting trip for their enjoyment and hired three prominent experts
in their
field to assist them.
Dick Cheney
will lead them on the hunt, Ted Kennedy will drive them back
to their
cabins each evening, and Bill Clinton will entertain their
wives and
daughters.
What a

Please allow me to
respond to the factually incorrect information contained in your editorial
concerning an emergency cease and desist
resolution placed on the County Commission agenda March 18th.
On Monday March 16th ,
the Navy switched its primary use to the runway that most adversely impacts
our county residents. This action was taken contrary to the pleas from the
community and with full knowledge of newly released documentation of serious
health and safety affects of the noise from the F18 Superhornet.
Your editorial failed
to mention that the resolution was placed on the Commission agenda in
response to the affected homeowners associations'
emergency request for
relief on Monday, March 16th .
I also saw no mention
in your editorial of the responsibility the county commission has to the
health and safety of the affected residents . The responsibility of the
commission is to protect the affected residents when made aware of health
and safety issues. I'm not sure that these health issues could not bring the
county into a possible class action lawsuit for failure to make a
declaration or plea to stop the injurious action.
Please keep in mind,
while you may live in an area that is unaffected and are not asking for
relief, there are many others in affected areas that are urgently requesting
relief until the serious questions can be answered concerning health and
safety.
Your editorial also
failed to accurately portray the new 4-day rule, which I sponsored. Within
the 4-day rule, there are and should be provisions for issues to be brought
forth that cannot wait for another month. This was such an issue. Your
editorial stated the purpose of the rule incorrectly. The rule's purpose is
for any one single commissioner to be allowed to deny the addition of any
add-on item. The intent of the rule is for the agenda item being added to
have merit that is recognized by every single one of the collective body of
five commissioners as either an emergency or an important time-sensitive
matter. This was such an issue.
The County
Commissioners, the Navy, community groups, as well the media, were provided
a copy of the resolution and reference material on Tuesday, prior to the
meeting. All five commissioners approved that the resolution should be added
to the agenda. All five commissioners apparently felt the item merited their
support, added a request for a workshop within 14 days and passed the
resolution unanimously .
In this case, the
facts have been weighed by county staff, by county attorneys, and by
individuals and homeowners associations affected by the jet training. Former
military officers as well as experts with no financial interest in this
matter have also expressed their concern. It seems all have come to the same
conclusion. Your conclusion differs. |

[Kudos] I would like to congratulate the homeowners on
Constitution Ave in Pine Channel Estates. There has been some real
effort into cleaning up and making the appearance of the homes and
properties look great. Constitution Ave also has the most
pristine canal in all of Pine Channel Estates and the folks who own
homes there should be proud to own a home on that street. Keep up the
good work! |

[Obama
Spending] Mobs with pitchforks are trying to impale everyone who
worked for AIG, but get this. Ultra left winger George Soros, multi-gazillionaire,
Obama’s sugar daddy, and funder of scores of ultra left organizations
owns and runs a hedge fund named Quantum Investment. From 2007-2008 he
personally made $3 billion from it. This year, in this fiscal fire pit,
he’s made $1.1 billion, so far. This guy knows the system and knows the
ropes; he’s a historic mover and shaker. This guy is closer to Obama
than his Blackberry. He is/has been one of the Obama inner circle
advisors.
Given that, why
did it take so damned long for Obama to come up with a plan, and why
does his plan have no requirement for cutting expenses. It’s only
requirements are to borrow and spend and spend and spend. Perhaps the
idea is to prolong the mess so that more and more of the Obama
socialization in place. In a recent interview a happy and smiling George
Soros said “I’m having a very good crisis.” Soros continues to make
billions while you and I eat (fill in the blank). Rahm Emanuel, (O’s
Chief Of Staff) was quoted “never let a good crisis go to waste”. |

|
In just 2 short months Obama’s approval rating has dropped from
83 pct to 48%. Half of America already disapproves of him, that's pretty
shocking. I guess rushing thru the stimulus bill just to sneak in the
million dollar bonuses to AIG was a bad move . “You betcha’” |

[The Horrors of Marijuana] Even our illustrious new President
managed to cow-tow to the politics of those antique Victorian Age
Puritans in our midst. "No", Obama replied, to the possibility of
legalizing pot when asked by untold numbers of Americans in his on-line
press conference. No. Let's keep reefer illegal. Let’s continue to
lock-up and plunder millions of Americans through the use of the U.S.
legal system for the minor possession and use of the dreaded herb. What
hypocrisy! God forbid that the mega-criminals that occupy Wall Street
and the boardrooms of corporate America should have their feet held to
the fires of criminal prosecution for crimes that make pot use pale in
comparison.
We all know the evil dangers of marijuana. Health and social concerns
have clearly been articulated by those anti-herb types on this site.
Grow some feet and evolve, oh feetless fish! The time has come to allow
some common sense to enter the debate over the pot issue.
There are fair questions that need addressed when it comes to the issues
of the health concerns. If it's a good thing to continue to forbid the
use of this insidious weed, then let's also outlaw heart
disease-inducing fast food, alcohol, poisonous tobacco products, Ritalin
for school children, industrial toxic by-products that spew deadly filth
into our skies, chemical poisoning of our farmlands, carbon monoxide
exhausts from millions and millions of vehicles across our
North American landscape. Well, I could go on but why belabor the
point.
The issue of legalizing marijuana is not one that will be going away
anytime soon. In fact, it is an issue that will continue to work its
way through the legislative process in more and more States. Count on
it. Roe vs Wade seemed to settle the issue whether American women are
allowed to have the rightful say about what they do with their own
bodies. If someone likewise chooses to ingest a little herbal smoke
into his lungs, it should not be any of the government's damn business.
Is anyone else sick and tired of government and its police minions
engaging in all this phony "protect and serve" crap? The system
protects its own enthronement and serves only mammon. Let's
face it, folks, it's all about money. It's all about big money and the
protection of those entrenched policies and practices that keep the
master's coffers full. I’ve got to go; have to roll a dubee! |

[Connected] The problem is that nobody anywhere has any belief
that this big economic problem has anything to do with them personally,
but we are all connected, like it or not. |
Welfare Poem
I cross ocean, poor and broke. Take bus, see employment folk.
Nice man treat me good in there, say I need to see welfare.
Welfare say, "You come no more, we send cash right to your door."
Welfare checks, they make you wealthy, Medicaid it keep you healthy!
By and by, I get plenty money, thanks to you, American dummy.
Write to friends in motherland, tell them "come fast as you can."
They come in turbans and Ford trucks, I buy big house with welfare
bucks.
They come here, we live together, more welfare checks, it gets better!
Fourteen families, they moving in, but neighbor's patience wearing thin.
Finally, white guy moves away, now I buy his house, and then I say,
"Find more aliens for house to rent." and in the yard I put a tent.
Send for family they just trash, but they too, draw the welfare cash.
Everything is very good, and soon we own the neighborhood.
We have hobby, it's called breeding, welfare pay for baby feeding.
Kids need dentist? Wife need pills? We get free, we got no bills!
Americans crazy, he pay all year, to keep welfare running here.
We think America darn good place, too darn good for the white man race.
If they no like us, they can scram, got lots of room in Pakistan.
It is interesting that the Federal Government provides a single
refugee with a monthly allowance of $1,890 and each can also get
an additional $580 in social assistance for a total of $2,470.
This compares very well to a single pensioner who after contributing
to the growth and development of America for 40 to 50 years can only
receive a monthly maximum ofr $1,012 in old age pension and
Guaranteed Income Supplement.
Maybe our pensioners should apply as refugees! Let's send this to
all Americans so we can all be ticked off and maybe get the refugees
cut back to $1,012 and the pensioners up to $2,470 and enjoy
some of the money we were forced to submit to the Government over the
last 40 or 50 years. Please forward to every American to expose
what our elected politicians have been doing over the past 11 years -
to the over-taxed American. |

[Socialized
Medicine]
All polls that I’ve seen have a bias that favors single payer
(socialized) health plans. Everyone wants something for “free”. No poll
that I’ve seen asks about what impact on preference there would be if
there was a drastic cut in medical costs. There has been a relentless
propaganda campaign by socialized medicine supporters that poisons the
polling well. Nonetheless, a recent CBS poll found 57% of us are at
least somewhat dissatisfied our healthcare system, but 77% of us are
personally satisfied with the quality of our personal health care. I’ll
bet that you are one of the 77% whose big gripe is that medical care
just costs too much. And I agree.
Yesterdays socialized health care proponent misses the point on the
entire issue. Socialized medicine would be a huge negative for the
quality of our current health care, it would cost everyone even more
money, it would be mandatory; everyone would have to support it in
higher taxes. The feds regulated Fannie, Freddie, AIG, and the whole
freaking fiscal industry, did that prevent the crises? Do you really
want folks like Mrs Acevedo running your health care? Obama is a
politician who will ultimately fail because of polling. Socialized
medicine is a rotten idea even if 60%, 75%, or .03% support it. It’s a
folly, Obama is as wrong on this as the voters were who voted for
Prohibition. |

[Turn

Saturday, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., I am going to make this place look
like an airport runway. Turn on your lights to protest this insane "sky
is falling mentality" to keep you in your place. At least I have the
right to believe thousands of scientists who say the Global Warming saga
is not even based on scientific truths. The money that this is going to
cost utilities will be passed on to us for absolutely nothing and we
will soon be shivering in the snow to get away from the huge increases
in producing electricity let alone the extra taxes on gasoline, diesel
and oil. Today Obama talked about an electric meter, the
government will install
in your house, that would tell you (nanny state again) when you are
using too much electricity. When he switches the electric off using
this same meter and you are hiding in the house shivering remember we
warned you. |

[The
Brown Shirts Are Coming] Has anyone who reads this site given any
thought as to what’s been happening to our country for the last 2
months? We’ve seen the nationalization of at least two huge automakers.
We’ve witnessed the nationalization of major mega banks. We’ve witnessed
the nationalization of several of our biggest and most powerful
financial institutions. We’ve sat quietly by and even voted to fund
these seizures. Every single one of these seized business had been
operating under Federal regulation and scrutiny for years prior to their
business failures. Still they failed and we took them over. Now The
Obama wants to go even further in seizing power and nationalizing
business and industry. He wants to get the power to seize any large
business that “seems” to be in danger of faltering, if that falter
“might” endanger the “health” of our economy. He wants the power to set
salaries in seized business and to dictate business practices.
Obama is
also pushing for the immediate implementation of his campaign promised
Civilian National Security Force (CNSF). Remember he wanted his own
personal security force that would have the equal budget and authority
of the military. That force to be deployed as he saw fit. It’s passed
the House and has a proposed opening budget of $6 Billion. It’s planned
to start up in schools and “camps” to “educate” our youth on the
importance of service to the government. Good Lord, where are these
people trying to lead us? Please take the time to read up on Germany in

Winn
Dixie warning- don't try to get your free milk coupon with the
purchase of 3 Kellogg cereals. I did buy 4 boxes of Kellogg cereal this
morning, 1 on sale and 3 regular price. Didn't buy any milk, and didn't
get a printed coupon. I went up to the desk and inquired about it.
Another lady was complaining about the same thing, but she bought all on
sale Kellogg cereals. She got a rain check, whereas I got nothing,
because I bought full price cereal, not sale priced cereal, even though
the flyer clearly states "Participating products: All Kellogg's
Cereals qualify for free milk offer. Only featured items are on sale for
$1.99. Sale price good 3/25/09-3/13/09"
When the pricing manager came up she said that contrary to the flyer and
the sale signage in the aisle, only the sale items were qualified for
the free milk. (too bad for us; she didn't care what it said in the
aisle or in the flyer.) She didn't listen and just walked away. I hope
they change it this week, but it really isn't right, I mean doesn't "All
Kellogg’s cereals qualify" actually mean that they all qualify? |

[Keys
Hospitality] I wish you and your wife all the best in your
tourist-geared business, maybe our paths have even crossed. It’s funny
how five cars can be a traffic jam in BPK. No matter when you’re on
vacation. My wife and I love the Lower Keys, that’s why we keep coming
back. The surliest people from the Keys we’ve ever come across have only
been on this forum--not the actual people we meet face to face. Except
for the woman who runs Baby’s Coffee. She always seems pissed, but she
makes a good cup of Joe.
Here’s this
snowbird’s short list of a few BPK highlights. Remember this is very off
the top of my head and incomplete: the weekend Flea Market, the peaceful
walk down Long Beach Road (good for deer watching), the CVS (best
drugstore chain in the world), the Big Pine Diner, The Cracked Egg Café.
And I haven’t even got to the Winn-Dixie plaza. Would I prefer a Publix?
Sure. But we’re in that Winn Dixie every other day when we’re on
vacation and it’s not nearly as bad as some people say. The Bagel Island
Café, China Garden is a good value and there’s always a bargain to be
had at the Bealls Outlet.
There is one store
we visited off the highway that was nothing more than a head shop with
some fruit and veggies and incredibly dusty sex gag gifts. I don’t want
to mention the name for fear that bikers will stalk me. You locals will
know what I’m talking about. |

[Bad
Pot] There’s something intrinsically stupid and stoner-like about any
marijuana advocate who brings alcohol into the equation of his/her own drug
use. I’ve never met anyone who didn’t concede that alcohol is one of the
most powerful legal drugs around. Of course it’s mind altering. But here’s
the part you guys and your bongs never cop to … because that would take the
fun out of it. Marijuana is not harmless. Inhaling hot smoke into your lungs
is dangerous. And here are some of the findings of recent non-governmental
studies:
Researchers from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center have
reported that men who frequently smoke marijuana may have an increased risk
of developing non-seminoma testicular cancer. The details of this study
appeared in the March 15, 2009 issue of Cancer.
Young men who are
impulsive thrill-seekers are more likely to admit to driving while high on
marijuana, Canadian researchers report.
Men who drove under the influence of cannabis were also more likely to
report certain risky driving behaviors, and tend to get in more accidents,
Drs. Isabelle Richer and Jacques Bergeron of the University of Montreal say.
And for all of you self-righteous doobie dabblers who don’t believe potheads
go to rehab. I don’t take any delight in saying you’re wrong. I know this
turf fairly well. Of course alcoholics, cokeheads, meth cases and junkies
make up the majority of people in rehabs, but potheads are not uncommon,
especially these days with the extra strength hydroponic out there. Here’s
another fascinating fact; about a third of any rehab stream is made up of
healthcare professionals, doctors, dentists, nurses,
veterinarians and pharmacists.
Try to get this through your clouded heads. Just because one dangerous
substance is legal (alcohol) does that really seem like a good reason to
legalize yet another? Should we make cocaine legal? Overdoses are fairly
rare. Heart attacks on the other hand… |

[Planning Commission Left-Overs] The previous writer stated that
John Marston, Jim Cameron and Donna Windle are left-over from prior
commissioners. That is true, but the writer sounds like he/she has an
axe to grind with these particular three planning commissioners. Could
it be that these commissioners do not follow the writer's philosophy?
I attend many of the Planning Commissions and John Marston, Jim Cameron,
Donna Windle, as well as Jeb Hale and Randy Wall, are well qualified and
competent to serve as planning commissioners. They all know and

Big Pine Flea Market is the largest in the

[Snowbirds]
All this
talk about and from our yearly visitors made me finally chime in on this
excellent forum. First of all my wife and I run a tourism generated
business and we love our guests and do our best to make them feel
welcome and glad they chose the Keys as a place to escape the rat race
and spend money on our Islands. Please do not let a few people who bitch
about anything ruin your vacation, we are glad you are here. Yes, Winn
Dixie is crowded as well as the highway and I get grumpy if there are
more than 5 cars at the light, I also see a lot of pale faces I don't
recognize in my favorite spot.
But we do welcome
you, even if you took my favorite table, bar seat or parking spot, we
still value your presence. |

The
Big
Pine Key Fire Station
contract is written by very competent Monroe County attorneys and is
constantly reviewed and tightened up to protect the County. The
contracts are public record so I would suggest you get a copy and read
it.
As for the cost
of the Fire Station it is on track to come in at projected cost.
It is
scheduled to be completed by July 2009 assuming no severe weather
problems occur.
It will be a
Fire Station the community can be proud of and Big Pine definitely
needs.
Just to
put your mind at ease, all the County projects are scrutinized by the
Project Management Dept. ( formerly Engineering), the Architect of the
project, the Structural Engineer of the project, as well as the
Building Dept. code inspector. All competent, experienced,
and dedicated people that are there to protect the County tax payer. I
think they do a darn good job. |
|
[Car
taking pictures on Big Pine Key] I doubt it's a google street view
car, they don't stop in the street and use a camera, they have a 360
degree camera mounted on a post on top of the car that takes pictures
automatically as the car drives along. I don't know if they're retaking
the pictures in the Keys, but they were here last spring taking the
pictures that are currently used on Street view. |
|
[County Construction] Has any County job ever come in on time and
cost? I doubt it because the people that work for the County usually
can’t make it in the real world. I don’t have much experience with
County building officials, but I do have lots of experience with KW City
building officials.
In Key West when your construction company fails you take a few classes
and become a building official and get paid less than half of what a
good working contractor makes. I assume it’s the same reason County
building officials work there. How can a County building supervisor
compete with the professional contractors that they are trying to
supervise? The private contractor is always sharper than the dufus that
wants a slack job with the County. When a contractor is given the plans
for a job he’s mainly looking for errors that will sometimes double his
profit because of the change orders that will be necessary to do
complete the project. The county building supervisor doesn’t have a
clue what problems the contractor sees; and that is why nothing they
supervise ever comes in on time or budget. |

[Pot and drugs—mind altering] How come no one refers to alcohol
as mind altering? You’re willing to put a nice person in jail for

Just because something is illegal doesn’t mean it’s wrong. This is just
one reason a whole generation doesn’t trust anything the government

[Big
Pine Fire Station] I'm
not criticizing, only asking a question. Some of the v-crimp-type
roofing has the raised edges running horizontally instead of vertical
which allows the rain to drain off the roof. Aren't those horizontal
ridges going to impede drainage and allow water to sit there eventually
rotting the metal? I don't know too much about roofing except Rule #1:
Water flows downhill. |

[We

about your new northern neighborhood and what it looks like, and service
industry people flooding in from other countries not speaking your
language, and your local government leaders spending your tax dollars
like uncontrolled drunkards.
Because that's what we're dealing with daily in Monroe County. Make no
mistake, Monroe County is in the fight of its life. There are people
who want Monroe County paved completely with 5 story high-rise apartment
houses, and million dollar mansions coving its 116 miles making
it looking like Biscayne Blvd, and all the people working in Monroe
County live north of the county line. Monroe County is the battleground
of change vs preserve what's left. Which do you think would make

A very sincere thank you to the San Carlos board of directors, and

low. For one thing, soda cans usually go directly into protective cardboard

coming in contact with rats or mice. And it’s only the urine of sickly rats
and mice that could cause it. Having said that; washing off the top of
anything you plan to put your mouth directly on is something most of us
learn pretty early on. And why would anyone drink from anything that looked
crusty or dried. This bogus story is right up there with entering your ATM
pin number in reverse if someone’s holding you at gunpoint at your bank

[The Plot
Can’t Get Any Thicker]
School Board member Andy Dick is asking what Mrs Acvedeo did with the
$250,000 Federal grant money that was supposed to help poor families get
their children ready for school. |
|
[Southern
Hospitality] Locals, you have no idea how to show true Southern
hospitality. I live and worked and raised all my children in the
Keys. We moved to the Keys in 1972 and truly loved everything
there; the water, the sunsets, our friends, our neighbors, the service
people we came in contact with, our children's teachers, our mailman,
you name it and we were in heaven.
Beginning in the
90's we started noticing a difference in the attitude of the people that
live in the Keys. Almost an I am better then you attitude
and
I have been here longer so I am entitled to more then the tourist
who come here to enjoy our lovely islands and perhaps move here
eventually.
The service people
can be rude and care less if they are helpful. The last time I was
in Key West, I went into the K-Mart, and I asked if they had a
particular item. The young lady I asked, very rudely shook her
head no and walked the other way. Well thank you dear. Sorry I
disturbed you.
When it came time
to retire two years ago, we decided that the Keys were no longer our
Heaven on earth. We have since sold our home and moved about as
far north in Florida that is possible. We are so impressed with
the genuine friendliness of the people here and how easily they have
accepted us as their neighbor. I wish I had known how different
life was in this section of the world. We would have moved sooner.
We do miss the
water and our friends, but then the highway does go two ways and we do
return for short visits. Please try not to be so ugly to each
other and to the tourists. Stop complaining about Winn Dixie, the jet
noise on Big Coppitt and the traffic that comes with the tourist.
Someday the Keys could actually be Heaven on Earth again! |

[FHP
releases names of crash victims] This has to be another example of
inaccurate reporting from FHP’s finest troopers. FHP needs to issue a
compass when sending troopers to Monroe County. Anyone traveling Kyle
Blvd. off Big Pine Key knows the direction is east and west not north
and south. The Big Pine Key crash victim was traveling eastbound not
southbound and was ejected into westbound lane not the northbound lane.
I am a long time resident of Port Pine Heights and the last time I
looked there are no ditches on Kyle Blvd. The crash victim was
pronounced dead at the scene. Why would FHP even comment as to "it is
unknown if alcohol was a factor in the crash"? The Big Pine Key
crash victim’s family has enough to deal with coping with the loss of a
family member-- not having to clarify the inaccurate reporting of FHP. |

The Planning Commission provides a system of check
and balance to that of the BOCC. The Planning Commission weighs in
on proposed agenda items, building regulations, comp plan items and
various land use regulations, etc. before these proceed to the
Commissioners. The Planning Commissioners are not there to rubber
stamp Commissioners agenda items; and in spite of unanimous
opinions of the Planning Commission, (and the will of the people) the
BOCC still does what it wants.
Of the five seated Planning Commissioners, do you know that
there is only one who has never received a phone call, or had a

Commission?

[BP
Fire Station] The fire station just like the airport and other
capital contracts are poorly managed from the start. All County
contracts should be written by the County Attorney's Office by an
attorney with expertise in the field. Most County contracts I've seen
indicate that, yes, the County prefers to let non-county attorneys to
write the contract and then the County attorney just rubber stamps it.
What a shame and what do the County attorneys really do to protect the
county from bad financial management?
Everything in the county seems so reactive. Once the contract is signed
and work begins, the county cuts jobs and no one is responsible for
seeing that the job gets done right. If there is county supervision,
he’s usually unqualified for the job. Then panic sets in and the Board
states "get it done" and whichever employee gets stuck with the
impossible task of making a purse out of a sow's ear will accept any
work, shoddy or not, just so he or she doesn't lose their job.
If the County does not have time to negotiate, draft the contract, and
oversee the performance of the contract, including collecting for shoddy
work and delay damages, then just don't start the project at all.
Sometimes nothing is better than being saddled with a white elephant
that doesn't work but the taxpayer continues to pay for it over and over
in repairs and maintenance. It all starts with competent contract
drafting and the proper staff to supervise a job - both apparently
lacking in Monroe County. |
|
[Jet Noise] What part of these people did not move into the
loud noise and crash zones don't you understand or refuse to

Mad (ness)] Chill out Dude. Crime in the streets? The only crime pot
causes is the criminal act of possessing it. So, by your "pot logic"
anything that is not harmless to humans should be illegal? This would
include un-protected sex, Dunkin Donuts, beer and cigarettes, etc. Yeah
my fat cells are loaded with THC--big deal. Pot is stronger today by
design. I can inhale one drag for the same buzz I used to get from
smoking a whole lid of Columbian Gold. I propose that I ingest less
carcinogens and carbon dioxide because of this. The pot today is much
healthier for you than it was back in the day. Are cigarettes healthier
today than twenty years ago? I didn’t think so and they’re still legal. |
|
[Planning Commission] The Board of County Commission inherited
Jim Cameron, Donna Windle and John Marston thanks to former BOCC members
Dixie Spehar and Sonny McCoy. Some of our present BOCC members have not
appointed their choices, the rules the former BOCC members Spehar, and
McCoy made with the other member of “The Gang of Three” still stand and
these Planning Commissions are the leftovers. Some items that the
Planning Commission passes do not go before the BOCC either. The
buck stops on these issues with the Planning Commission. I think
when our newly elected BOCC members do pick their choices, or change the
LDR’s back to what they were then we will have a good Planning
Commission. |

Welcome
to Obama’s World. Obama is looking more and more like Castro or

have the power to seize businesses. Obama says that if his
administration decides that a business might fail and in so doing might
damage the economy, then Obama must have the power to seize it.
How is it possible

My wife and I keep

The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's
two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story
house. Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles,
zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the
main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the Ark of cedar and
pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by Noah would
have been. Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern
tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in
May 2005. On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the
opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and
goats, and one camel. Visitors on the first day were stunned. 'It's
past comprehension', said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be
bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark
looming over the local landscape. 'I knew the story of Noah, but I had
no idea the boat would have been so big.' There is enough space near the
keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells
the story of Noah and his ark. Huibers, a Christian man, said he hopes
the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, were
church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.

[Never
Drink Rat Urine]
A woman went boating one Sunday in north Texas, taking with her some
cans of coke which she put into the refrigerator of the boat. On
Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the intensive care
unit. She died on Wednesday. The autopsy concluded she died of
leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not
using a glass. Tests showed that the can was infected by dried rat urine
and hence the disease leptospirosis. Rat urine contains toxic and
deathly substances.
It is highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of all soda
cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in
warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.
A study at NYNU showed that the tops of soda cans are more contaminated
than public toilets. They are full of germs and bacteria. So wash them
with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal
accident. |

[BOCC micro-managing County Administrator] I understand that the
Board hired Roman Gestsi because he could help them solve the wastewater
problem and mandate. So far, the Board has shot down every suggestion
that the County Administrator has made to get the wastewater project
done on time and within a budget that was affordable to the residents.
It was the same Board’s negative response to each hiring recommendation
that the County Administrator has proposed to date. If the County
Administrator gets fed up and resigns or, heaven forbid, he gets fired,
it certainly will not be his failure or lack of performance, but the
failure of the Board of County Commissioners for attempting to
micro-manage an area where they don't have a clue.
The Board members think they know everything and must micro-manage every
detail of which none of them have ever any real life work experience,
education, or training. The Board would do well to shut up and follow
the advise of the experts like the County Administrator who have lived
and worked in the real world where performance is rewarded rather than
criticized. The Board should make policy. The County Administrator is
definitely a step-up for the average county administrator and the Board
should let him run the day-to-day management of the county instead of
constantly sniping at him. |

[AIG] I
listen to and watch the news daily. I am really disturbed by the
rhetoric that is currently going on about AIG. I would like to offer my
take on the whole thing. All of us have or still work for a living. We
have to play by the rules or we will get fired. Those employees who did
receive bonuses that they did not authorize themselves were playing by
the rules. The real bad actors in this whole mess are the folks who
authorized the bonuses. The Congress is the one who took out the wording
from the TARP that would have eliminated or limited the bonuses. The
Congress is the one who gave them the money and said nothing about how
they should spend it till now. The Congress is the one who voted
themselves a raise by not stopping an automatic raise.
If you are not a
student of History, I would like to offer this up. In the early 30's
Germany, as well as many other countries, were in an economic
depression, I think unemployment was near 40%. Hitler was able to come
to power by focusing people's frustration and helplessness on that
segment of their society that seemed to be immune from the economic
chaos, the Jews. The Russians were able to bring about another revolt by
creating class envy, the workers against the aristocrats. Both movements
were very successful in their initial phases and the people were very
happy. We all know how they ended up.
The class envy
leveled at the AIG executives is the beginning of the very same process.
Just look at who is ginning up all his class envy (Congress) and they
are the ones who started this whole thing. |

[Vietnam 1966] Richard, my husband, never really
talked a lot about his time in Vietnam other than that he had been shot
by a sniper. However, he had a rather grainy 8 x 10 black and white
photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann Margaret with Bob Hope in the
background that was one of his treasures. A few years ago, Ann
Margaret was doing a book signing at a local bookstore. Richard
wanted to see if he could get her to sign the treasured photo so he
arrived at the bookstore at 12 o'clock for the 7:30 signing. When
I got there after work, the line went all the way around the bookstore,
circled the parking lot and disappeared behind a parking garage.
Before her appearance, bookstore employees announced
that she would sign only her book and no memorabilia would be permitted.
Richard was disappointed, but wanted to show her the photo and let her
know how much those shows meant to lonely GI's so far from home.
Ann Margaret came out looking as beautiful as ever and, as second in
line, it was soon Richard's turn. He presented the book for her
signature and then took out the photo. When he did, there were
many shouts from the employees that she would not sign it. Richard said,
"I understand. I just wanted her to see it." She took one look at
the photo, tears welled in her eyes and she said, "This is one of my
gentlemen from Vietnam and I most certainly will sign his photo. I know
what these men did for their country and I always have time for 'my
gentlemen.'" With that, she pulled Richard across the table and
planted a big kiss on him. She then made quite a to-do about the
bravery of the young men she met over the years, how much she admired
them, and how much she appreciated them.
There weren't too many dry eyes among those close enough to
hear. She then posed for pictures and acted as if he were the only
one there. Later at dinner, Richard was very quiet. When I asked
if he'd like to talk about it, my big strong husband broke down in
tears. "That's the first time anyone ever thanked me for my time
in the Army," he said. That night was a turning point for him. He
walked a little straighter and, for the first time in years, was proud
to have been a Vet. I'll never forget Ann Margaret for her graciousness
and how much that small act of kindness meant to my husband. |

The math on the Paul McCartney-Heather Mills divorce is as follows:
After 5 years of marriage, he paid her $49 million. Assuming he got sex
every night during their 5 year relationship it ended up costing him
$26,849 per time. On the other hand, New York Governor Elliot Spitzer's
hooker, Kristen, an absolute stunner with a body like no other, charges
$4,000 an hour for anything! Had Paul McCartney "employed" Kristen for 5
years, he would have paid $7.3 million for an hour of sex every night
for 5 years (a $41.7 million savings). Value-added benefits are: a 22
year old hot babe, no begging, no coaxing, never a headache, plays all
requests, no bitching and complaining or 'honey-do' lists. Best of all,

Bad Obama
will gusher more of your money into the lending institutions ala AIG and
Fannie/Freddie. So he’s inventing a brand new Government Sponsored
Enterprise (GSE) its called Public-Private Investment Program. It’s
funded with public and private money. The new wrinkle is that he’s
trying to seduce the private sector, that’s Wall Street execs, to
partner up with him. That’s the same Wall Street execs that he says make
too much money and that he wants to regulate their compensation.
Fannie Mae,
Freddie Mac, Amtrac, the Post Office, etc. etc. all government
controlled enterprises, all of which are nothing more than tax money
black holes that are sucking the life out of our society. I almost
forgot: it’s going to cost one trillion dollars. I’ve accused Obama of
disrespecting the office of President and of disrespecting you and me.
On 60 Minutes Sunday, Obama provided proof. During his interview with
Steve Kroft, Obama was laughing and joking about our current fiscal melt
down. Kroft said to him “You're sitting here. And you're…you are
laughing. You are laughing about some of these problems.” With a
Cheshire huge grin and laugh Obama responded “No, no. There's gotta be a
little gallows humor to get you through the day,” Kroft, incredulous,
said “Are you punch drunk?”

[Snowbirds] I too am a snowbird. Remember where you are
vacationing. The lower Keys are not Miami, nor Naples. They are a laid

He had the nerve to tell me "the airport was established here first, you

airport would extend a runway or change flight patterns in an
established, Airport District Zone is unthinkable. It's just one more
blow against the common man. Video |

[Cows and the
Ten Commandments] Cows. Is it just me, or does anyone else find it
amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a
single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall
where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves
to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens
wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow.
The Ten
Commandments. The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments
posted in a courthouse is this -- you cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal'
'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building
full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work
environment. It is time for America to speak up! |

[Health
Care] Yesterday’s poster about health care was totally wrong. There
is no doubt that the Harry and Louise series of ads were informative
but, they were only one of the many influences in the defeat of “Hillary
care”. The ads weren’t scary; they were informative, cogent,
interesting, accurate and appealing. The socialized medicine booster did
not even bother to attack the content of the ads or try to suggest that
the ads were false. He only tried to demonize the ads and those who
presented them by accusing them of having “deep pockets”.
The
ads were in opposition to a plan that was being championed by the most
powerful government on the planet Earth, and by a political party that
was flush with money from all the various interests who were pushing the
plan. The power of the Clintons was at its zenith. Those are truly deep,
deep powerful pockets.
I
can agree with the poster that health care costs are too high. I cannot
agree that trashing our system is any sort of cure to that problem.
Because of the trial lawyer influence the Democrat party stubbornly
blocks any attempt at tort reform which would slash medical costs. They
refuse to enforce immigration laws which would remove millions of
illegals who drain our health care system, and they deny workers tax
benefits for purchasing health care insurance. It’s the
Democrat sacrament of hyper control of the system that keeps costs in
the stratosphere. That fact is true in any endeavor that is government
controlled. Health care costs will have to rise under socialized
medicine, care quality will have to deteriorate.
It
was the people of the US that recognized that Hillary care, conceived
and born in the secrecy of clandestine closed door meetings was
antithetical to the best interests of your health care and mine. They
rejected it. The Democrats are hell bent on changing our society by
trashing it. |

[Captain Rich/
AKA Porky and the Cardinal] Since doing my last posting I have been
inundated by e-mailers thanking me for all the research and requesting
more research and info about Porky and the Cardinal. To date I have
received more interest from the Keys locals than I ever received when I
did research on Illinois Governor Blagojevich. Only time will tell if
there is a book or movie deal to follow.
The loud noises coming from your house couldn’t be you yelling again or
is it? It’s not the Cardinal’s fault. The good news is that no one on
the canal has complained this week about you making a wake. Maybe it is
because you haven’t gone out this week, but I am hoping you have finally
slowed down. The dogs are still barking too much though. Rumor has it
that several dive instructors were approached by you and you requested
them to just sign you and the Cardinal off as Dive Masters without
actually going through the same instructional classes that all the other
rescue and Dive Masters go through when they get licensed. Although
these instructors mentioned this to several people, they would not
participate in a sign off without the two of you actually completing the
classes (their names are available for PADI should PADI request them).
It was also suggested that some other instructor may have done just
that. Perhaps PADI should, or already is following up on that as well.
It was also rumored if such a thing occurred that instructor may be
shown lenience should they contact PADI prior to being contacted by PADI
directly. Otherwise they may loose their instructor credentials forever
if there is confirmation that they filed something less than accurate.
While checking
State & Monroe County licensing for Capt. Rich AKA, Porky & the
Cardinal, it does not appear that proper licensing and filings for the
American Pet Association, APA, rwerner@apapets.org and/or rich@endlesssummer.org
www.endlesssummer.us housing rentals, were ever filed for your home
business location on Allamanda Lane, BPK Fl, 33043 It was also rumored
that John and Lisa, well we won’t go there unless you decide to invite
them to join in on your laundry day and someone from the police
department was overheard saying that they also saw first hand the text
message of sexual harassment that you sent.
Capt Rich,
although you claim to own your Grady White, we learned when we checked
with the Florida State department of vehicle and vessel registration
that your Grady White it is not even registered in your name, however it
is registered to someone in Key West. I heard an interesting comment
from the owner of your vessel who said, “If you ever find yourself being

parade”. ~livinadream1lm@gmail.com |

This
gnome fantasyland was first started on Jan. 25, 1976 beginning
with a rock garden made from a mound of dirt and a cluster of rocks.
Then three miniature roses were added followed by three small gnomes.
Over the past 33 years the yard eventually developed into seven separate
gnome gardens each with different themes. A lovely common green lawn
helps to connect them. The gnome population has now reached over 1,200.
The garden is in Sonoma County, CA. |

another scant trillion dollars to our national debt, what the hell is
another tiny trillion when you’re rushing into more than 9 trillion in
debt. Way to go Team Obama, you’ve only got 1863 points to go to get
back to the DOW close on the day of your election, and only 6325 points
to go from the Dow’s record high of 14,087 during the Bush

[Health
Care] In 1993 Hillarycare was defeated primarily by health
insurers who hired Chip Khan to defeat it. (the power of deep
pockets) He ran a series of “Harry and Louise” ads that had the
couple speaking of their worries about the Clinton plan. The ads
were so wildly successful in putting fear into Americans that they
defeated the plan and even helped put Republicans into power in
1994. Now fast forward to today.
Heath care costs
are reaching unmanageable levels, hurting hospitals, insurers and
patients alike (just like Hillary predicted). There’s wide
acknowledgement that quality care has eroded since 1994. Re-enter
Chip Khan. This time the lobbyist has switched sides and been hired
by the hospitals, although he acknowledges that the health insurance
industry is still the biggest obstacle.
The hospitals
cannot afford to treat the vast numbers of uninsured that show up
needing treatment; they need many more people to get health
coverage. |

[The
New GI Bill] My friend just had a baby. He’s a cook in Key West
and when he found out about the new GI Bill he jumped for joy
because starting next semester, in August, he’ll start attending
FKCC. For the next three years the government will pay for his
education plus give him $2100 a month for living expenses in
addition to the free medical care he already gets. He’s in pig
heaven.
It’s about time the government took care of its veterans. I thought
it was a shame that after WW II the GI Bill provided such great
benefits for those that served and missed out on civilian
opportunities and this war we forgot about the veterans. This new
bill shows the country’s appreciation for those currently serving
and will give them the chance to catch up to the rest of us who
stayed at home and continued on with our lives. |

Gingrich recently said that Bush was a president that failed to

our economic situation, if you’re too big to fail, you’re too big to

Fannie Mae should be broken up. And to think I used to hate
Gingrich! |

[Republican
Successes] How quickly they forget. There’s nothing funny about
what happened when the Republicans lost control of the Congress two
years ago. On the day the Democrats took control of Congress the
nation’s economy was in great shape. The stock market was at
12,473, and heading for 14K+ in just a few months In October 2006,
the inflation rate was 1.31%. In 2006 the unemployment rate was at
historic lows, less than 5%, more than 95% of Americans were
working. Foreclosures were rare. Gas was below $2. per gal in 28
states. The real estate market was flourishing. It is absolutely
astounding how much the Democrats have screwed up a great economy
and in how short a time. For the good our great country, we
Republicans and Conservatives will continue to devote ourselves to
divide the socialists of the Democrat party from their positions of
power. That’s a change we can all believe in. |

[Evacuation]
Using
the new 18 mile stretch as a hurricane evacuation route. I thought
the idea was that during evacuation there would be two northbound
traffic lanes. I looked back at some old documents on the web and
found that the idea was to use the northbound shoulder as the second
lane.
The roadway,
itself, seems amply wide to handle two lanes of traffic. But the way
it is marked, striped, and fitted with those bumps which tell you
that you've left your lane makes me think that the driver in the
left lane is supposed to stay in his lane, which seems like it
forces the right lane driver somewhat off the road.
I guess that
if everyone is careful, calm and rational, we can make that work.
But in evacuation mode it looks like a different story. It looks
like a recipe for panic and mayhem.
I thought one
idea might be to close the road to autos at a set hour before
expected landfall and then use the County’s school buses to shuttle
out any last minute stragglers. |

[Of All The
Nerve] Dear President Obama. It took my party 8 years of
deregulation with us being in full control for 6 of them to get this
country in the shape it is. Why isn’t everything peaches and cream
after you’ve been in office 60 days? We saved the country before the
elections when John McCain cancelled his campaign and the rest of
America senators where rushed back to Washington after being called
in by President Bush in a hurried meeting because America was
within days of the financial markets collapsing. I mean Geithner and
the rest of today’s people in office were not there, but that’s not
the point. And of course my Republican party was incensed when Obama
tried to cap anyone’s bonuses if they take huge amounts of tax
money, but that’s not important now either.
If you cannot fix
all of America’s problems in 60 days, Mr. President, you should be
impeached.
You, Obama may
already be the worst president in American history. The nerve of you
trying to cap bonuses of failed business leaders to only 1/5
million. What’s next, Mr President, putting more police on the
streets and spending money on America’s failing infrastructure with
a stimulus package? Next thing you know you’ll be trying to give
Iraq back to the Iraqi people and returning more troops to
Afghanistan, the country that the real attackers of 9/11 trained in.
The nerve. That’s
this great American’s view. |

too, that the critics must actually like what they read here,
otherwise why come back? It’s the Deer Editor, who runs all the

annoying, but it's the price of admission. This is Deer Ed’s site;
it’s his call about everything in it. This criticism is emblematic
of much of our current travails. There are some people who feel the
need to control all of what other people do. Please allow me to tell
critics to go pack sand. Better yet, to tell them to gather up their

[Legalize
Pot] Phoenix is America’s kidnapping capitol. Last year there were 368
kidnapped people. Most of them were drug related and that drug is mostly
marijuana. If pot were legalized that crime and many others would end the
same day. There’s a more sinister reason for keeping marijuana illegal and
it’s the whole legal system. If pot were decriminalized hundreds of
thousands of people would be out of jobs. Our legal system is designed to
handle large volumes of people arrested for the drug; from judges, lawyers,
jailers, probation officials, etc. If legalized, we wouldn’t need so many
prisons, or rehabilitation centers either. There is no valid reason to
outlaw marijuana. Countless studies have disproven every fear and argument
about the weed. Think how much money can be saved by revamping the legal
system and how much money could be earned by taxing the herb.
All anti-pot programs
have failed. To the contrary, another study showed that kids seeing so many
anti-pot ads got the feeling that if they were seeing so many ads that a lot
of other kids must be trying it which led them to try it too.
Marijuana use is
always on the rise. So are marijuana arrests clogging our courts and legal
system, getting back to my point that it’s in the best interest of these
employed in the legal system to keep this innocuous drug illegal. It’s job
security at the expense of people’s reputation and an incredible expense for
our nation. No one I’ve ever known who was busted has ever stopped smoking
pot. There is no deterrent because it makes you feel good. That’s the crime.
Americans don’t like anything that makes you feel good. Americans pop more
pills than any other society, but they aren’t feel good drugs—they call them
prescription drugs and they’re ok. Has any of you ever heard of a stoner
beating up his wife or starting trouble? It doesn’t happen, it’s not the
nature of the high. Now ask yourself the same question of alcohol. It seems
that booze is okay because it’s legal. Alcohol is a drug it is more of a
real drug than pot is. Marijuana is not a drug. Stop kidding yourself.
Everyone knows someone
who smokes pot or has used marijuana themselves. Only those that have never
tried it think it’s a terrible “drug” and do want to keep it criminalized.
What’s the worst case
scenario if it were decriminalized? Uncrowned or even empty jails, a court
system dealing with real criminals, a new revenue source for the government,
, a lot of people laughing too much? What is your fear? Did you believe what
you saw in Reefer Madness in the 1950s? |

[Jet
Noise Primer]
Before you believe
what you read in this Sunday's paper, this is related material the authors
did not choose to research, acknowledge or print. That Florida Defense
Industry Economic Impact Analysis that the Citizen is quoting to
criticize our Community and County Commissioners is funded and promoted by
guess who? And the answer is (drum roll please) the Florida Defense
Alliance.
Florida Defense
Alliance Mission
• Foster the military
presence in the State of Florida in support of National Defense.
• Preservation of
test, training, and staging areas suitable for maneuver by ground, naval or
air forces to guarantee future availability of such areas to ensure the
readiness of the Armed Forces conducting operations in Florida.
• To expand the
defense industries.
• To ensure that both
active and retired soldiers, marines, sailors, airman, guard and reserves
receive continual improvement to their quality of life.
• Support local reuse
efforts brought on by base closure or mission realignment.
NOTE: I was hoping to
find additional entries on citizen and environmental health policies but
there were none. Oh My!
You know the Florida
Defense Alliance is the State funded pseudo-military organization stuffed
with pro military hacks in Tallahassee. The Florida Defense Alliance is the
organization that is funded by Enterprise Florida which is the State agency
that funded the Florida Keys Defense Alliance in Key West. That
pseudo-military organization setup by the who's who of Key West’s braggarts
disguising themselves as civic leaders. The same two organizations are under
investigation by the Florida Inspector General's Office for the misuse of
grant funds. The same grant funds that were awarded to the FKDA and paid to
a retired Admiral, Robert J Natter, for lobbying and evading DoD/AICUZ
policy. He’s the same guy who was investigated for accepting a $1.4 million
dollar lobbying contract for the State of Florida 4 months after retiring
(the Navy ethics policy has a minimum two year prohibition on lobbying the
Navy).
In 2007 the same AICUZ was changed by Jim Scholl's Command, an Attorney,
Natter and a local developer (you know who). The same Jim Scholl who, soon
thereafter, became the City Manager of Key West, at $148K a year and cannot
work with the Navy because of their ethics guidelines. The same 2007 AICUZ
that moved the flight paths away from Enchanted Isle/ Key Haven to lower
income South Stock Island; the same area that now is confirmed to be
suffering from hundreds of 150 decibel flyovers by the F18 Super Hornet. The
same F18 Super Hornet which the Navy was caught lying about by the Naval
Audit Report in October 2008. The same 2008 Naval Audit Report that says
that the Navy is paying out over $250 million dollars of tax money a year in
hearing disability payments? The same hearing disabilities that long
established Monroe County neighborhoods are suffering daily. The same
neighborhoods that one day may feel the effects of a jet crash that can wipe
out three generations of your family. The same families that our County
Commissioner's are sworn to protect. The same County Commissioner's that
stood up to the Navy last week for the health and well-being of all Monroe
County Citizens. The County citizens who supposedly mingle with 9,000
military personnel. The Navy's 9,000 military personnel that pump $640
million into our local economy. The same local economy that is presently in
a economic slump that’s more like a depression
I must add a bit of
common sense at this point. If the Navy figures are accurate (I won't touch
that), I figure that every 5 minutes, a Monroe County citizen would bump
into a military person in a uniform, every day. The last time I saw a person
in uniform was in a picture in the newspaper. The same newspaper that
criticizes our County Commissioners and citizens for demanding that the Navy
follow the laws that we all must follow. The same County Commissioners who
are the "new patriots" that believe in moral and ethical accountability for
all Monroe County. That same moral and ethical accountability that seems to
be lacking in our local newspaper, military and state agencies. |

[County
give Higgs Beach to the City of Key West] As a resident of Key West, I
utilize the dog park daily and have seen miraculous changes in the entire
area since MCSD has stationed a deputy there. The children’s park was once
sparingly used; now it is filled with children and their parents daily.
Homeless people still hang-out there, but the majority of the bums have
moved on. I think that the mere presence of a marked patrol vehicle, and a
uniformed officer walking the beat there has done miracles. I don’t think
that KWPD would have had the same impact. For that, I thank the MCSD for
stepping up and making a real difference. |

shit. Yes, I’m bitter! |

A
hundred years ago in 1908 the average life expectancy was 47 years.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had
a telephone. There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles of paved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. The tallest structure in
the world was the Eiffel Tower. The average wage in 1908 was 22 cents per
hour. The average worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent
accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, A dentist $2,500 per year, a
veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanical engineer
about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births took place at
home. Ninety percent of all doctors had
no college education.
Instead, they attended so-called medical schools, many of which were
condemned in the press and the government as 'substandard.'
Sugar cost four cents
a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a
pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used Borax or
egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law that prohibited poor people from
entering into their country for any reason. Five leading causes of death
were: Pneumonia and influenza, tuberculosis, diarrhea, heart disease,
stroke
The American flag had
45 stars. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was only 30. Crossword
puzzles, canned beer, and ice tea hadn't been invented yet. There was no
Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two out of every 10 adults couldn't read or
write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated from high school.
Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at the
local corner drugstores. Back then pharmacists said, 'Heroin clears the
complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels,
and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health.' Eighteen percent of
households had at least one full-time servant or domestic help. There were
about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S.A. |

Mr.
Acevedo, this is so very sad. You are one of the many reasons most folks
don’t like or trust the state, local or the federal government. You and
people like you are so out of touch with who's money they are spending; they
just don’t understand or care that they work for us. All Government is too
big, to much and too big to fail (what a term).
Are we
doomed? Can we throw the bums out and will the new bums be even worse? There
is no doubt that Mr. Acevedo and his wife will be thrown to the lions. They
will use the system to try to stay out of jail and it will cost them
everything, yet they may still go to jail. They should. We must demand
better and prosecute to the fullest extent of the law when laws are broken.

[AIG Bonus Scandal]
None of this crap could have happened unless someone made sure it would
happen. Those someone’s were Tim Geithner, now Obama’s Sec Tres and Senator
Chris Dodd. Geithner, absolutely knew about the stinking bonuses way back in
November, he pushed hard for them at that time. There are e-mails that
prove it. He was then the Head Mickey at the New York Fed Reserve Bank, and
he was in the lead pushing hard early on for the bailout. Immediately before
the bailout was voted in, Senator Chris Dodd, personally, changed the
legislation to make it a requirement that the bonuses be paid. Dodd has
taken large 6 figure sums from AIG and allied companies. It’s on the record.
Now he claims that the Obama Treasury Dept twisted his arm. Both of these
guys are deeply flawed, Geithner is a knowing and willing tax cheat who
should have been prosecuted not anointed, he is no different from a common
thief. Dodd is a liar, a tax cheat, and a friend of liars, tax cheats and
swindlers. Chris (my vote is for sale) Dodd is more at fault for our current
economic situation than any other human alive. There’s plenty of blame to go
around, but Dodd is at dead center. |

Pines Colony Home Owners Association is a lot like the rest of the USA.
The folks living there seem to be eager to take whatever someone else will
give them. But, it sure doesn’t look like they’re too eager to step up and
pitch in. It’s a sure bet that someone here will whine that they’ve done
their part in the past but that now no one else will step up. If that’s
true, why not return to being involved and just go ahead and get things
done? Forget about picking at old scabs, forget about recriminations and
just move forward. It’s always the volunteers that get the most out of any
project anyway. They're the winners! It’s the same way in many homeowners
associations, just a few volunteers accomplish all that gets done, but a
noisy few are always ready to beef about something. Ignore the bitchers and
whiners, they’re the losers who accomplish nothing.
When
more of us make just a little individual investment in ourselves and our
community then our community is a much better place to live. Our
neighborhoods look better, individual property values increase, our quality
of life improves, new friends are made, and we all have a few more grins.
C’mon folks, get involved in your homeowners association, it’s fun and it’s
rewarding. Pay a little forward, run for office in your association; it’s
rewarding, it’s a rush, and it’s priceless in karma alone. |

Mike
Monsoor, a Navy EOD Technician, was awarded the Congressional Medal of
Honor posthumously for jumping on a grenade in Iraq, giving his life to
save his fellow Seals. (Notice: Mike was not a Navy SEAL, he was EOD. He
gave his life to save a group of Navy SEALS.) During Mike Monsoor's funeral
in San Diego, as his coffin was being moved from the hearse to the grave
site at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, SEALs were lined up on both sides
of the pallbearer’s route forming a column of twos, with the coffin moving
up the center. As Mike's coffin passed, each SEAL, having removed his gold
Trident from his uniform, slapped it down embedding the Trident in the
wooden coffin. The slaps were audible from across the cemetery; by the time
the coffin arrived grave side, it looked as though it had a gold inlay from
all the Tridents pinned to it. This was a fitting send-off for a warrior
hero. |

[50% of bankruptcy
caused by medical debt] Not true! That absurd fallacy is routinely
trotted by Obama and the proponents of socialized medicine. It comes from a
2005 Harvard Law and Medical School study done by one David Himmelstein.
What that study did find was that when a tiny sampling of some bankruptcies
was examined, in about half of the cases, medical bills were a part of the
total bad debt. The term “medical” definition was impossibly skewed. For
example: the researcher decided that "uncontrolled gambling" or "addiction"
was a medical condition. Loss of income from the death of the family prime
earner was considered as a medical condition. That meant if you get hit by a
bus, languish and die, your wages are lost to your family, and as a
consequence your spouse must file for bankruptcy. They actually called that
a medical condition. They also declared “medical condition” included cases
of folks with health insurance who had more than $1k in unreimbursed medical
expenses who lumped them in with the bankruptcy.
That’s hell of a lot of people. The year of the study there were about 1.5
million bankruptcies, the researchers admit that they only actually
interviewed 930 of the 1770 cases they examined out of 1.5 million filings.
They interviewed about .00062% of the total cases. What a crock! The
researcher readily admitted that his criteria were just a “judgment call”.
Its socialist propaganda; beware and ignore it. |

[Arrest Log Facts] You say the person posting about another who was
arrested should get their facts straight. I do agree that the glee posted
was not necessary. But they did have their facts straight and the person is
in the arrest log. No matter how nice the person in the police daily arrest
log is, what is there is there and you can not erase it. We all know that
those arrested may not be guilty, they are just posting arrests, not the
outcome of the trial that may happen in the future. I do not understand
your ire at a posting everyone can double-check and knows to be true. What
did I miss? |

[If

The
Ah-ha moment: The truth comes out. I have been reading these posts
from someone who claims that they read every day, about "not posting
everything". What I thought was, if that person really did read everyday,
then that person would know the posting philosophy and procedures. Now this
post about being a message board. So, it's obvious they're both the same
poster (regardless of email name). First send a few posts criticizing site
management; then send a post suggesting a different method.
Well, we all read those “message board” posts last month. And we all
responded that we like it the way it is, so that poster went away. Except
now it looks like that agenda's being thrown at us again.
Ed, this is one of those been-there-done-that moments. Whoever is posting
you to use a message board format - give them what they want. Use your edit
power; don't print anymore emails about changing the CT. Enough already! |

[Navy Jet Noise]
(By Ryan McCarthy-Keynoter) Monroe County Commission and U.S. Navy
are all but done playing nice when it comes to noise from daily training
flights over Lower Keys neighborhoods. On Wednesday, commissioners passed a
resolution calling on the Navy to "immediately cease and desist" flying F/A
18 fighter jets from its Boca Chica air station. The resolution has little
actual impact, but it does send a signal to the Navy that the county expects
the military to treat the approximately 3,000 Lower Keys residents affected
by the noise the same as it treats its own -- with health and well-being
first and foremost in mind.
That was made clear
when Commissioner Kim Wigington fired off a series of damning facts included
in a previously classified internal Navy report about the F/A 18s used at
Naval Air Station Key West. The report says the Navy made no attempt to
mitigate "the flight line/deck jet noise hazard" when the F/A 18s were being
designed. The report says the jets emit "a maximum of 150 decibels, which is
well above the noise level considered hazardous to hearing," which is more
than 84 decibels. The report goes on to say that prolonged exposure to such
noise levels "increases the likelihood of permanent hearing loss to sailors
and Marines."
Wigington criticized the Navy for deliberately exposing Lower Keys residents
to planes that the service itself knows are dangerously loud. "If you live
there, you know what the impact is. It's intolerable," she said.
"Psychologically, it’s difficult to deal with it. That's what you're
exposing a community to on a daily basis."
NAS Key West Executive Director Ron Demes -- an ex officio member of the
Monroe County Planning Commission -- took exception to the allegations,
saying the Navy does care about the residents who live near NAS Key West.
But he seemed nonplussed by the commission's action. "We'll take this
resolution under consideration and continue to work with the County. We
appreciate your concerns but must continue normal flight operations," he
told the commissioners.
Commissioner Sylvia
Murphy noted the Navy changed flight patterns for more than four months
while repairing its main runway. She called those flight patterns "less
annoying" and said, "that proves it can be done." Demes said those changes
were temporary and that the optimum runway is more than 30 percent longer
than the two secondary runways and 25 percent wider. Wigington, whose
district includes NAS Key West, wasn't thrilled with that explanation,
questioning why the Navy insists on using "10,000 feet of runway for a plane
that can take off in 1,200 and land in 1,800."
Mayor George Neugent,
the longest tenured commissioner at 11 years, said while he doesn't recall
the commission publicly chastising the Navy this way before, the
relationship between the two is not strained. "What it did do was raise the
bar a little bit and get us to the table to express our concerns and I'm
hoping there are some things we can do to mitigate the noise impacts,"
Neugent said.
This latest brouhaha
over jet noise comes on the heels of the commission's rejection of a Navy
proposal in February to conduct a study aimed at curbing incompatible land
uses around Navy property. Commissioners were critical of several aspects of
the proposed study, and said they found that in other communities where such
studies have been done, residents felt obligated to abide by non-binding
recommendations. The commission also criticized the Navy's Air Installation
Compatible Use Zone. The AICUZ identifies noise footprints and potential
accident zones around Navy property. The same version had been in effect for
30 years until a new, larger one was rolled out in 2007. It includes
existing residential properties not previously included in the AICUZ. The
County Commission has refused to adopt it. Navy and county officials are
expected to meet within two weeks to further discuss noise issues. |

They also need help

I almost forgot, they didn't file their income tax return this year. Should
I go ahead and file for them or will you be appointing them to cabinet

[Welfare
Plantation]
The lady that wrote in about the welfare plantation couldn't have said it
any better. Here's the solution to welfare. It will never be enacted because
we wouldn't want to offend anybody, although they never seem to feel that
way about the taxpayer. If you are old or invalid this doesn't apply. Most
folks on welfare aren't. They will find a way to be, if this was enacted.
Here's how it goes. We the taxpayers give you money to help you through your
hard time. You work it off at minimum wage doing things the Government and
the taxpayers need. Picking up trash, babysitting so others can go to work,
landscaping at the parks, etc. Right now nobody on welfare can work more
than 20 hours a week or they will lose there benefits. Publix loves it. They
have employees that they don't have to pay benefits to. We make
prisoners work for the taxpayer’s money that they receive. Why can't those
on welfare work for theirs? Two things will happen if this is enacted. 1.
Any idiot could get a job making better than minimum wage. 2. If for some
reason you are a good worker someone is going to see that and want to hire
you.
If
you don't work you don't get the money. If they are having such a hard time
we will make your life better. You'll be able to join the other taxpayers
footing the bill. If this sounds too harsh, maybe we could start simply drug
testing every applicant. |

[What
to do about toxic posts] You should exercise common sense and
editorial discretion. Just because you do not have reporters or paid writers
does not mean that you need to post every email you receive. I understand
the desire to archive what people are talking about, but talk is cheap and
some of it does not deserve to be preserved, especially when it degrades—and
often slanders—private citizens. I should not have to remind you that the
Keys are a small place and that people have personal vendettas. Your site is
not simply a “permanent record of what Keys-oriented folks are talking
about.” It is a means for an ignorant few to exact their revenge without
having to take responsibility for their words.
Posting the sender’s email address does nothing to promote accountability.
It takes less than five minutes to set up a free email account using a fake
name. Before you post your emails and choose your animated clip art, take a
moment to look at what the sender is saying and ask yourself whether it
contributes to a legitimate discussion. You even say on you FAQ page that
you reserve the right to edit any post for content. This is not called
censorship, either—it is called being a site maintainer. If you really want
everyone to be able to say their piece without putting you in the middle,
turn the site into a message board. |

Navy
carrier-based jet fighter aircraft will be conducting Field Carrier
Landing Practice at NAS Key West's Boca Chica Field on Saturday, March 21
and Monday through Friday March 23-27. This previously unscheduled training
is required to meet the accelerated schedule of aircraft carrier USS Ronald
Reagan.
Saturday's FCLP
training will be between 2 and 4 p.m.
Monday through Friday's training will be from 7:30 - 10 p.m.
Navy F/A-18 Superhornet fighter jets from Strike Fighter Squadron 106 will
be conducting the training. This training provides Naval aviators with
realistic carrier landing practice prior to actual landing practice on
at-sea aircraft carriers. Upon completion of this training at NAS Key West,
the aviators will complete their training by landing on the aircraft
carrier. Residents in the neighborhoods of Tamarac Park and Key Haven may
notice an increase in jet noise during the FCLP training periods. |

The Congressional
Budget Office announced today that Obama’s proposed budget will
quadruple (4x) the Bush era budget deficits. Expect $9.3 trillion in
deficits. It was only a year ago when, in a speech, Obama railed against
Bush by complaining about “a trillion dollar debt paid for with deficit
spending and borrowing from foreign creditors like China”. Obama complained
that Bush had “A complete disdain for pay-as-you-go budgeting.” Still, Obama
just a year later demands that we embrace his socialist agenda by taking on
over $9.3 trillion dollars in debt, more debt than we’ve ever had, more debt
that any nation on earth has ever had. Debt that places our nation at grave
danger of bankruptcy.
His demands are not
aimed at fixing the economy; he demands that the fundamental fabric of
America life be changed to fit his socialistic ideal. The Obama credo: "you
should never let a good crisis go to waste." If you believe and trust Obama,
then you probably are convinced that Pro Wrestling is a pure and legitimate
sport worthy of the Olympics. |

Why
doesn’t the County give Higgs Beach to the City of Key West? The
beach is nothing but problems for the County and serves the County no useful
purpose. The small revenue we get from the restaurant there is not worth the
maintenance and security needed at that beach. County residents don’t even
use it. When’s the last time you spent a day at Higgs Beach? Do you even

[Creditgate]
There is absolutely no way that Randy Acevedo didn’t know that his wife
was spending up a storm using County credit cards. A table saw, men’s
clothing, and multiple XM radio subscriptions- many of these items are
specific to men. When you’re in foreclosure on multiple properties,
generally you are paying attention to your finances.
This is just another example of the bubbaism that is so prevalent in
this county. It is an absolute disgrace that he has not tendered his
resignation as well. We can only hope that our school board has the
integrity to do the right thing. The right thing would be to fire him at
once and prosecute this grand theft to the fullest extent of the law.
Why is Duncan Mathewson so quiet on this issue? Board members Griffiths
and Pribramsky seem like they are not afraid to get to the bottom of
this. ~cdgbpk@bellsouth.net |

[Sloan’s Response to: “Sandy and Sloan actually believe that

really concerned about jail food quality control?). They might protest
and say that they didn't want this "mission" but they aren't fooling
anyone but themselves. ~arthur_phrain@hotmail.com"
My understanding is God chose me because I begged for help in one
breath, because I did not want to die, failed; and in the next breath,
I offered my life to human service. But for that, I might have been left
alone. I made the offer out of desperation, hoping to end up doing
something that would not leave me feeling like an utter failure, as a
man. I did it selfishly, I suppose. I had no clue what lay ahead. I came
to understand I was a piece of shit God was trying to make use of. I
also came to see there was nothing I could do, short of killing myself,
to get out of it. I frequently tell God/the angels, if I'm the best they
can do, then humanity is screwed. Sometimes I say God picked on me, the
worst piece of shit God could find, because if something could be done
with me, then something could be done with anyone.
I frequently tell people to thank their lucky stars God does not pick on
them. I often recall Jesus' words in the Gospels along the lines:
Steep is the way, narrow the gate, and
few enter therein; The work is great, the laborers are few; Many are
called, but few are chosen; Many will call me Lord and I will say I
never knew them.
I also recall Jesus telling his disciples that they do this work not to
receive thanks from God or people, but because it is their duty. And I
recall him saying they would be persecuted. Many times has Jesus been on
my case. Many times. And many times I have been told to do things
I didn't want to do. Many times. What can I say, Arthur? Nothing,
probably. But you raised it, so I replied.
(Editor's note: Mr Bashinsky will again be a
candidate for mayor of Key West, He said this time he is running to win.
The angels told him to run again, but didn't tell him if he would win or
not.) |

[AIG and the
Devil] Senator Chris Dodd is finally coming under fire. Dodd’s role
in the AIG bonus fracas is becoming clear. Dodd initially denied any
knowledge of how they came into being. When it was revealed that they
were made possible by specific language in the bill, Dodd first said
that he didn’t know who put it there, then he said that it was people
from the Obama administration, now he’s finally admitting that it was
his language that he wrote. After previously lying, he’s saying that
the Obama admin twisted his arm and made him do it. Dodd has received
tons of money in campaign bucks, and a sweetheart mortgage from AIG.
Now he sounds like
Geraldine in the old Flip Wilson Show, “The devil made me do it!”. Dodd
is under fire in Delaware for his relationship with Edward R. Downe,
convicted tax cheat and securities swindler. Downe bought a D.C. Condo,
Dodd wound up being a half owner with Downe, then the sole owner.
Records do not show that Dodd paid anything for the deal. Dodd alone
ultimately sold the condo. Did I mention that Dodd arranged a pardon for
Downe in the last hours of the Clinton admin? Chris Dodd and Barney
Frank are ground zero in the failure of Fannie and Freddie which led to
this mess. Dodd is a stinking crook. Maybe now someone will get serious
about a bonfire for Dodd and Frank. |

[Good
Manners] Many locals could use dose of etiquette skills Good ideas
from [columnist Chris] Belland in Sunday’s Solares Hill regarding
reinventing Key West. Shouldn’t one already be “courtesy trained” when
they take a job in the tourist/ service industries? Having worked in
nightclubs and restaurants for 20 years, I made money by being nice,
lighting their cigarettes, giving great service and using my courtesy
training that I learned at home and school. There are some rough
individuals running the shows, and many servers and people who deal with
the public do not seem to be people-friendly. “Hello” and a smile is a
good start and, you really do not have to call me ma’am and tell me to
have a nice day at seven o’clock in the evening. Many establishments
seem intent upon hiring young people with boatloads of drama, or keeping
the burnouts on board while they pass on the older, seasoned people with
good manners and people skills. Considerate, kind and respectful people
are not born that way, but need to be taught. The art of the thank-you
note has slipped away because people were not taught to do this at home
or school. Business letters and e-mails today sometimes lack
salutations, greetings and complimentary closings. I could keep going on
about seeing men wearing baseball caps inside restaurants, but that code
of conduct seems to be old school and no longer followed. A column in
this newspaper or a class at FKCC may help locals and their children get
a much-needed dose of etiquette skills. Like Chris Belland said, “People
who are appreciated return, they become our best advertisement and they
leave bigger tips.” |

maps are more distracting than GPS. None of us snowbirds wish to hold up

Again it’s a

Is it now

why there was no way to defeat the safety mode on my rental GPS?

[Refugees or Terrorists] Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 7:56 a.m. A
Rio Grande Valley man is expected to appear a federal courtroom in
McAllen on Thursday morning after he allegedly helped smuggle three
Iraqi nationals into the United States. Federal court documents show
that Border Patrol arrested Juan de Dios Martinez-Vela during a March 12
incident in the Hidalgo County community of Los Ebanos. A criminal
complaint shows that a Border Patrol agent saw several subjects crossing
the Rio Grande and getting into a vehicle. Another Border Patrol agent
posted off Military and El Faro Roads stopped a pick up truck carrying
three passengers in the back. The driver was identified as
Martinez-Vela, a 28-year-old American citizen. The passengers did not
speak English or Spanish and were later identified as: Wshyar Mohammed-Salih
Majeed, Aziz-Beirut, Awat Mahmood-Qadir (none of them Spanish names).
Border Patrol agents learned all three men were from Iraq and had paid
$20,000 to be smuggled into the United States. The three Iraqi men told
Border Patrol agents that they made their smuggling arrangements in Iraq
with a man in Iraq, who works for a smuggler named "Murat". Court
records do not indicate if Martinez-Vela works for or with "Murat" but
show Martinez-Vela faces human smuggling charges. Court records do not
show why the Iraqi immigrants crossed illegally into the United States
but many other immigrants from Iraq and Lebanon caught in the Rio Grande
Valley have claimed to be Christians or war refugees seeking asylum.

[Obama Should
Take the Bus] Did you see all the crap about Obama making his NCAA
picks, he even had a poster board with the Presidential Seal on it to
display his picks. It’s reported that he spent a good deal of time on it
Tuesday, and went on TV with it on Wednesday. I can’t help but think
about Nero playing his fiddle as Rome burned. To quote Duke Coach
Mike Krzyzewski "the economy is something that (the president) should
focus on, probably more than the brackets." Let’s not forget how much
you and I spent shipping Obama to California for the Leno show. Think
about it. He flew several of our huge airplanes over 6000 miles and tied
up millions of dollars of our US equipment and about 2000 people who are
on our payroll, just to spend a few minutes on stage with a freaking
comedian. It costs us millions of dollars just to get him there. Are we
in a recession? This guy has no respect for the Office of the
Presidency, nor does he have any respect for you and I. I’ll bet he
demands and uses toilet paper with the Presidential seal right in the
center of it.
Over the last few years the workplace enforcement of immigration laws
was ramped up by a factor of about five. There were tons of arrests of
illegals and their employers. Illegal immigration slowed, American jobs
were freed up. Now were in a recession, our jobless rate is soaring,
Americans need jobs. Nonetheless the Obama administration and Democrat
Congress is abandoning workplace enforcement of immigration laws and is
stopping aggressive enforcement of all immigration laws. Mexico is in
the throes of incredible violence and a recession worse than ours.
Illegal immigration has already begun an upswing as Mexicans flee their
country and begin taking jobs from Americans. And we make ourselves an
easy and attractive target for them just so that the Obama admin and the
Democrat party can curry favor with the Latino vote. It’s just wrong. |
