To those of us who missed The Cat Man Show on Friday night because some other act took over near his spot and distracted the Cats and his Show, please let the Westin Key West know about it.  Otherwise we may not get our dose of this world-famous purrrrrformer much longer! http://www.catmankeywest.com/

Another lady had seen him on TV in Australia and came down to see him on their first night and some bozo had to ruin it for all of us!  We almost started to heckle the other dude, but instead, went through a claustrophobic Mallory Square and missed The Cat Man Show.  Let them know how special our Cat Man Is.

I have a three bedroom house on two acre in Big Pine Key that I would like to rent to a Navy family. How do I go about letting the Navy know? Do they have a blog or a newspaper I could advertise in?

[Cops and YouTube video] It just goes to show the mentality of the country today.  The kids got everything they deserved by being little shits and disregarding the rules and fighting the cops instead of complying with their lawful orders. The way I saw the video, the kids need more than to be grabbed by the throat.

What is wrong with the north canal in Port Pine Heights? All the fish are dead and it stinks!

[Fallen troops]  It is good to know there are some wonderful people out there who care. Thank you for the post.

[Clinton/Bush bashers/boosters] I’m a slow learner, but I’ve learned that the Friends of Bill and the Bushies are each hard core and not likely to change the others’ mind.  Reason and analysis are not part of the matrix.  I do pray that each of these camps can agree that an 800 pound gorilla is gaining weight and ferocity while it hungers to devour us.

You’ve got to give the Muslim-fundamentalist-terrorist-gorilla plenty of respect.  They sure as hell aren’t sneaky; they’ve told us over and over that they intend to destroy us. Their existence and mission has been known for years, every President and many European leaders, since Nixon have experienced their wrath and fire.  They have fed and thrived on our lack of resolve to vanquish them.  They have benefited immensely by our national largess.  They rejoice in and taunt our timidity.  They are bright and analytical; they recognize our weaknesses and exploit them.  Their solidity and unity of purpose is superior to ours. Their will to prevail is superior to ours.

Clinton and Bush have shot their national wads, each will best be judged years from now.  I hope that our way of life can continue to exist so that each of us will be able to read their true history, not the rant of a Muslim fundamentalist’s official Sharia Government historian.

[He’s back!] Dear gossip artists, It says you will print anything but attacks on individuals. So why have you printed over and over attacks on my son, Tussa?  Who are you anyway?  Write me back and explain.

"He told me...that, as a martyr, he would have been granted 72 virgins. This didn't seem quite the moment to point out that there is a lively, ongoing debate among scholars of Islam as to whether the 72 promised virgins might, in fact, only be 72 raisins." --The New Republic's Peter Bergen, on an interview with a would-be suicide bomber

[bomb threat] If, in fact, a bomb threat was made. The Federal Key Deer Refuge will have the F.B.I. looking into It. If a cell phone was used it will be easy to look up who used what at what time. I can only say that not only was it a very dumb thing to do, but there is a very good chance that the Federal Gov. will spend whatever it takes to catch the folks or person involved. There will be jail time and a very big fine. My money is on the Feds.

To the lady defending Mr. Milo, he was 19 when he committed the heinous crimes, not 17.  He has pleaded guilty to a third degree felony, so he is a felon now, no matter what kind of punishment the judge gives him.  If his entire future is destroyed, it is his own doings and no one else's.

My young ones have done dumb things; this is beyond dumb.  Not all young people learn from their mistakes; that is why the prisons are full of people that never did learn.  One of my sons was on the wrong path and kept getting into more and more trouble.  He finally spent one year in jail and it totally turned him around.  There is no telling what he might have become if he hadn't gone to jail.

[Everyone should vote] Jane Balogh of Seattle signed up her dog in protest of a 2005 state voter-registration law she thinks makes it too easy for non-citizens to vote. She used a paw print to mark ballots on Duncan's behalf. Now she’s in trouble.

[you and your mercenary ilk un-American] Wow, do people miss a point or what? Feedback like this person’s will let the Rag Heads cut throats and kill kids as they feel like it. Dropping to one's knees will only help them. Get real!

[Venus and Saturn Converge] Look to the skies this weekend to see Venus and Saturn converge. Easily visible, they will reach their closest proximity at 5:33AM EST on Sunday. The two planets will slowly pull away from each other during the rest of July.

[Size limit for boats in canals] You are allowed 25% the width of the canal

A camping park on Xmas Tree Island?  Are you kidding?

I am a little confused. I read on a constant basics, of animals being killed here in the Keys; from iguanas being put onto freezers to kill them (Their crime, eating plants, their natural food) Feral Cats being killed because some people don’t like them, to Marsh Rabbits being killed for why?

Remember the game where we sit around in a circle and one person starts a story going around and by the time it comes back to them it is a whole new story?  Everyone remember that? Well, that is just what happens when someone starts something on this internet, it just keeps growing and growing, even when it means young peoples lives are at stake.

What those boys did to the alligator maybe wasn’t right, but  when did we start putting human life above the life of wild animals? There are people out there who have lived all these years as perfect human beings, so, okay, they have the right to throw stones I guess.  (Just so we never find out their past mistakes and blow them up.)  I just do mot understand why some people want to wreck the rest of two boys lives for a mistake they made when they were 17 years old.  All I can think of is  that you have no life of your own or you are perfect people, in which case I want to see you walk on water.

Be punished? Yes, they should be.  Be marked as felons and have no future? Big mistake for society.

[Sea lice] What is the chemical that sea lice secrete that must be neutralized? Do acids like vinegar neutralize it?

The Moondogs are going to be playing at Boondocks this Saturday for the full moon party. C'mon out, dance until you drop and and howl along with the 'Dogs.

I’d like to write in to support our local service workers because I know many of them and I know their good nature.  And I know that we agreed not to humor the cop hater.  But I know who he is and thought I would shed some light on him.  I will not specifically mention his name.

This man attempted to start a dive business in Key West but failed miserably.  Ocean Key House impounded his boat because he owed them a lot of money.  His house on Privateer in Cudjoe was just foreclosed on by the bank.  Now he sits in Columbus, OH writing endless diatribes about cops, big businesses, and other government entities because he blames them for his failed life.  To make things worse, he has a boat half-sunk at the Cudjoe house, polluting the whole canal.  He has no respect for laws, environment, or any of his neighbors.  By the way, the canal-front stilt house is advertised for $299,000!

Now, he has nothing better to do than go on an anonymous website 1300 miles from his home and make cowardly postings.  He's the same guy who thought Sheriff Roth was to blame for Tom Willi's screw-ups.  Truth is, and I'm sure everyone could see this in his numerous posts, he has some screws loose.  He does not live here anymore, so I suggest he annoy his new neighbors in Ohio, not us.

[dog poop Ramrod] You must be kidding!  I lived on Ramrod too, and saw the local kids trash the place.  There is also one guy, a long time resident of the island, who walks his dog and carries a plastic bag, but when I was there, the dog was allowed to poop in everyone's yard and the bag never got used.  Fortunately for us, unfortunately for others, he moved further down West Indies, away from our area.

[Bickering Neighbors] I suspect there are several sets of bickering neighbors, all adding fuel to the fire; thinking they are the exclusive target.  There's probably also a person being referred to in the feud that knows nothing about the entire exchange and is going happily about his life.

About what time will the Stray Dogs be playing at Picnic Island on the fourth?

The population of the Keys has dropped from 82,413 in 2000 to 73,747 today. We’re just about the only county losing people and I thing they are mostly service people. The Keys are truly becoming a playground for the rich. Island Information

Hybrid car battery’s can be recycled just as we’ve recycled all kinds of batteries for decades.  I don’t know of any way to recycle a Hummer’s exhaust.

[think like a human who has crawled his way to the top of the food chain] Does being at the top of the food chain mean we shit where we eat? kill everything around us? war with every body and destroy our own planet? And you expect respect?

Now that the County Commission has approved the condo-ization of Lucky’s Landing and just about every other trailer park in the Keys they are going to try to stop any new land use conversions. I guess they’ve done all the favors they promised.

Breezeswept Beach has had a series of calls to code enforcement for stupid things over the last two weeks.  I have also noticed that same couple who lives on Indies Road about 1/2 way down driving around in the big white pick up with the diesel engine or in the white Jeep Cherokee driving around a lot over the last two weeks.  The guy is driving and the lady is writing things down on a pad of paper.  What a coincidence? They are back driving around and code enforcement calls go up.

Let's take all the dogs from Picnic Island in to make a deposit on their lawn.  The canal into Breezeswept is very close to Picnic Island.  I'll volunteer to shuttle them all in for a quick deposit.  I'm going to make my new project to follow them home so I can post their address on here.  I know they live on Indies Road, but I’m not sure exactly where.  Ed, if I post the address will you print it? (Ed: Yes, if we print yours too.)

[Cure for sea lice]  Urine will instantly take the itch and burn away from sea lice bites and man o war stings.  Its the natural way and the quickest way.

[alligator killers] It matters not how “good” everyone says they are. What matters is the character they displayed out of sight of those who think they’re good.  Too many people are easily fooled.  For Ms. Gross, wanton killing is a lot more than "dumb things".

[All other animals are lower than us] So you think you have crawled your way to the top of the food chain? My parrot has said more intelligent things than you just wrote. Using your logic I guess that gators are the most highly evolved species in Florida since they enjoy eating humans.

There was a bomb threat to the Key Deer Refuge Office last evening. They had the south end of Winn Dixie parking lot cordoned off while the bomb squad made sure the call was a hoax. I'm wondering if someone hates deer enough to do such a stupid thing or maybe it had to do with the feral cat trapping. Who knows what nuts think.

[Rules are why we will be extinct in a few years] Without rules we sink to your level. America is founded on rules. I call you and your mercenary ilk un-American and do not respect your propensity for violence nor your fascist understandings.

[Time travel] What would happen if I went back in time and killed my mother?

I would like to submit the following comments on behalf of Jordan Milo. I do not know the other fellow, but I can speak for Jordan.

I understand what Jordan did when he was 17 years old should not go unpunished, but I do not believe this young man should be marked for the rest of his life. To have his life destroyed as a young man would render no gain for anyone, not Jordan and certainly not society.

As a single mother of two boys, who at times in their younger years did dumb things, they have turned out to be fine young men. I can not honestly say this would have been true, if certain people along their road to adulthood had not given them a second chance. Young people learn from their mistakes, if they are not destroyed in the process, it is part of the human growing process.

Jordan is a very caring young man, who has finally found his calling in life, and wants nothing more than to serve his country with honor. He has a clean record other than this instance, and has a Great Military Record.

I ask that the court take all of this into consideration and find a suitable punishment, and not mark this young man as a felon, which will destroy his entire future.

Good news. Blossoms Grocery (294-9496) on White St near Eaton St now has Deer Chow in stock.

I understand that the folks at Lucky’s Landing are having a big bash on July 15th (Saturday). This is their final day at this waterfront mobile home park and would like to invite all friends and neighbors to attend and celebrate their many years of happy (affordable) living in the keys. There is plenty of parking now and room to tie your boat (if you choose to come by boat). They ask that you bring your own beverages, (ice and grills will be available). Make sure to bring your swim suits. Several tiki huts and outside showers will be there for your use. Come have a good time and remember the "good times".

Or you will be fined.

Things I like about the Keys
1. Where else can you see a Casino Boat sitting in 4 feet of water that wasn't tugged in there.
2. Around here we call each other Jerk or tell each other "here's your sign" and "you can't fix stupid" but we don't shoot each other.
3. I like the way the county tells us "we may switch to year round water restrictions" but we all know what the next line whispered is, “Pssst, that way we can replace more single family houses with multi unit condos".
4. We don't wear plaid pants here.
5. Bikinis.

87 The Hungarian] It wasn't a headline, it was an inside page story. A picture and a half column, it said, "Hungarian Families Arrive in Washington D.C. Escape Russians with Nothing but the Clothes on  Their Back" The response was overwhelming. Poor Marion could not step away from the phone. Dad and Uncle George had all kinds of job offers. People wanted to bring furniture, household goods, clothing, food, somebody wanted to donate a car. Marion had to tell them, since we just arrived, wait a few days until we are in  a place of our own. A bank account was set up with Suburban Trust, and donations were referred to that account. It was so generous that we were able to repay the Schattensteins for the bus fares and even had some left over...

[UFO] Many will recall that, on July 8, 1947, witnesses claimed an unidentified object, with five aliens aboard, crashed onto a sheep and cattle ranch just outside Roswell, New Mexico. This is a well-known incident many say has long been covered up by the United States Air Force and the federal government. However, what you may not know, is that in the month of March 1948, exactly nine months later, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, Condoleezza Rice, and Dan Quayle were all born.

See what happens when aliens breed with sheep? This information may clear up a lot of questions, doubts or other perplexities.

[More bar wisdom] "The only way I can get my wife to leave me alone is to walk around the yard with a hose. I don't even turn the water on."

I read that athletes foot cream will cure your sea lice,
but putting it on your thong itch would be rough.
You say not all men kill, eat or wear animals. More correctly you should say, not all males kill, eat or wear animals. Real men do all that!

[illegal immigrants entering our country to declare a firearm.]
I wonder just how many "illegal immigrants" are trained troops!?  Remember the movie Red Dawn?

Size limit for boats in canals.  I believe the width must be less than one-third the width of the canal. To allow equal storage on both sides of the canal, and to let other boats pass.  Logic also dictates that the length of the boat must be less than the with of the canal to allow for the boat to be turned around.

I enjoyed the clueless writer talking about sea lice burrowing into your skin.  Sea lice is a misnomer, they are a larval stage of a medusa jelly fish. They don't burrow at all but sting like jelly fish are apt to do.  They are so small that they are helped in the stinging process by being smashed between your suit and skin, the itch is a histamine reaction.

I don't think there are any ordinances for boat sizes in canals. Up until now it's been more or less regulated by the boat's draft.

Some pictures don't need captions.

Again Bush is refusing to turn over records when asked by Congress. Bush and Nixon are the same thing. If anything, the comparison is insulting to Nixon.

Years ago I was on one of the snorkel boats that ran out of Dolphin Marine.  When I came out of the water I saw that I was covered in little red bumps. The captain said that I had sea lice. He dumped red wine vinegar on me and told me to shower. By the time we reached land every red bump was gone.

I want to wish my beautiful wife Linda a very happy birthday. The keys are so much brighter that she is here with me. I love you Linda.

Toyota Hybrid automobiles cause more pollution than most of their tree hugging drivers know.  John Hammerstrom, one of the chief defenders of the Florida Keys environment not only built his house in an environmentally sensitive hardwood hammock but drives one of the most polluting cars made, a Toyota Prius.  It just so happens that their nickel batteries have far more harmful impacts on the earth's environment than people think.  Researchers have discovered that a Hummerhas less environmental impact on the earth's environment than John Hammerstrom’s Toyota Prius

The batteries that power the Toyota Prius and other Hybrid vehicles come from the Inco Mines in Canada, one of the most polluted places on earth......The Inco mines are responsible for all the acid rain in the upper part of the United states, and all the land within a 100 mile radius of the plant is completely void of all visible foliage.  Once again Mr. Hammerstrom has shown his hypocritical status that lies beneath his environmental façade. --govwatch05@comcast.net

Your boat can only take up 1/3 of the canal. An inch more and, “You got some ‘splainin to do, Lucy!”

This is a great video on why people distrust cops. You need to watch the whole thing for the good part. Here are two more worthless cops. One cop strangles a 13 year old girl while the other ideally stands by watching. Only the one that strangled the kids got suspended pending an investigation. The other which is an accomplish should also be suspended. I wonder if the one got suspended with pay or not? I'm curious what kind of investigation they are doing? The video speaks for its self. Excessive force and aggravated assault sounds good. I would probably have been put in jail and have to post bail for strangling a little girl like that. Dirty pigs. Yeah yeah cops making your selves look real good. I would go out on a limb and suggest as a percentage of the population cops commit more crimes then the general population. They just don't get caught. And just like in the video their fellow officers just  stand by and let them do it. Sick. Actions speak louder then words.

After the first time I got sea lice (at the reef not at Picnic Island), a friend said Windex had enough ammonia in it to kill sea lice. I took it a step further and mixed half water and half ammonia in a spray bottle. I use it before and after I get in the water during the summer months. I haven't had sea lice since (4 years).

I just wanted to give Kudos to Kim Kasey and her sidekick Cowboy Leroy on the afternoon trivia contest on US 1 radio lately.  Finally there is some form of entertainment on the afternoon radio.  They have taken the show up a notch, and let me say I giggled for 10 minutes straight with some of the answers that were given.  The questions have been funny as hell.   Keep up the good work you two, and thanks for entertaining an old woman like myself.  P.S. Don’t fire the poor boy, he's kind of funny, and probably hot too, in his boots, but I'm old and my standards are not what they used to be.

A gushy reporter told Phil Michelson, "You are spectacular, your name is synonymous with the game of golf. You really know your way around the course. What's your secret?"  Michelson replied, "The holes are numbered"

A golfer teed up his ball on the first tee, took a mighty swing and hit his ball into a clump of trees.  He found his ball and saw an opening between two trees he thought he could hit through. Taking out his 3-wood, he took another mighty swing; the ball hit a tree, bounced back, hit him in the forehead and killed him. As he approached the gates of Heaven, St. Peter saw him coming and asked, "Are you a good golfer"?  To which the man replied: "Got here in two, didn't I?"
The bride came down the aisle and when she reached the altar, the groom was standing there with his golf bag and clubs at his side. She said: "What are your golf clubs doing here"? He looked her right in the eye and said, "This isn't going to take all day, is it?"
VP Chaney seems to think that secrecy from the people is the best Democracy.

The Worlds Most Ugly Dog is from, where else, New Jersey.

[Bickering Neighbors] I'm getting confused. Is there a 3rd neighbor involved?  Since you all decided to air your problem here please set us straight with what's what.

You want us to think like the animal so we can empathize with them.  If we did that we would starve or revert back down the food chain to lower forms of life like the herbivores.  I will pass, I prefer to think like a human who has crawled his way to the top of the food chain.  Our place in the food chain is to be an omnivore which means that we eat both plants and animals, yes even cute and cuddly ones.  Whether we kill it ourselves or let others kill it for us, lower animals are there to be eaten.  And all other animals are lower than us.

My dog poops at home right after he eats because that is what I trained him to do.  My dog get's a healthy diet and I always feed him at the same time everyday. I won't bring my dog out to Picnic Island because I don't want him getting sea lice or any other diseases from the filthy people out there throwing their garbage in the same water we are swimming in.  Cigarette butts floating by are also sickening when you are in the water.  Its people that are to blame, for the pig pen out there at Picnic Island, not dogs!

Kudos to the KW City Commission for putting the annexation of Christmas Tree Island on the ballot. Finally a governing body that listened to the people. I think what the commission should really be asking is not how much money the annexation will bring to the city’s coffers, but is it the right thing to do. I’d like to see a park there with a small campground, and a mooring field to the west, and docks on the east side. The city should buy Wisteria Island.

No matter how many times Bush downgrades our mission; victory in Iraq is when they stop shooting at us! Anything else is defeat.

In remembrance for our dearly departed friend, we say cheers to you George, we will miss you and we know the Big Pine Coffee Country Club won’t be the same without your wit, and humor. We all cherish the time we had together, and know you’re in a better place now and it will be hard to fill your position as you know it is a difficult job to do. No person knows the hardships you endured to fulfill your obligations as vice-president, especially under the direct command of the "acting" president now in reign. Woe to us who now deal with the new regime, where we will probably succumb to inflated dues, and the days of tabs being paid are probably ones of the past. Oh George, if you were only to fly over and deposit your thoughts upon those empowered shoulders, please, in your unmatched capabilities; give us a sign that everything in the club will be okay. Honestly George, may God have his blessing upon your soul and welcome you with open arms, and sit you beside him (so you have a good view from where you can place your droppings upon us!) and be taken care of for the rest of your life. Farewell from all at the club.

[Thinning the herd] An 18-year-old man intent for some reason on spray-painting graffiti in an electrical substation in Santa Fe, N.M., jumped the concrete wall and razor wire in May and started to work, but soon burned himself badly and died days later.

[dog poop] I have lived on Ramrod Key for 11 years and have been coming here since 1979.  I have never met anyone that I didn't consider a friend as well as their dogs.  The locals know how to take care of their Island.  It’s the visitors that bring their crap and trash to our Paradise.  Please educate the non-residents when you see them violating our Paradise.  If they give you any s**t, give it back to them!

[More money than esthetics] Developers are building a luxury gated community in Marathon called the Marlin Bay Yacht Club. In the typical cluelessness of most developers they are building it in a Dutch style.

[To the Clinton basher] I can see where your confusion is. I think maybe you forgot that we didn’t go into Iraq to stop Muslim violence as you said we went in because Saddam had WMD that gave Saddam the ability to strike America in 45 minutes. As for Clinton helping to end the ethnic cleansing it really doesn’t matter if its Jewish people, Catholic people or Muslims. If we sat back and watched it happen it would have been a true shame. And I didn’t just make up the comment about Bush getting the best military in the worlds history. That claim was made by the field generals when they went before Congress to discuss the progress in Iraq. I hope you’re not implying they lied. It’s the continued occupation that is where the comment about placing our sons and daughters in the middle of a religious war is from. We could claim victory and let the people that have been killing each other for 2000 years keep doing it.

[Pick pocket cure]Ex-Marine Bill Barnes of Grand Rapids, Mich says he was scratching off a losing $2 lottery ticket inside a gas station when he felt a hand slip into his front-left pants pocket, where he had $300 in cash. He immediately grabbed the person's wrist with his left hand and started throwing punches with his right, landing six or seven blows before a store manager intervened. "I guess he thought I was an easy mark." Barnes is 72.

Sea lice are here every year around July and August. They are especially bad around floating sea weed.

This week we celebrate a special birthday.  Monica Lewinsky turned 31. Can you believe it?  It seems like only yesterday she was crawling around the White House on her hands and knees, and putting everything in her mouth.  They grow up so fast, don't they?

5. Weight an evangelist carries with God = 1 billigram

["bad" means getting caught]  Wow, there's a very accurate description of the current social attitude.  Pass the word; "sneakiness" is not a virtue.

[Enough about Bill Clinton, he’s history] Enough about Bush as well because he is history too!

[sea lice]  There are probably a lot of experienced people reading this with good prevention and cure home-type remedies.  How about sharing?

[Rules of engagement and the Uniform Code of Military Justice are the only things that separates “them” from “us”. That is why we are better than them.]  What idiot wrote this. You obviously have never been shot at or even near real war. There are no rules for killing one another. With knife, gun, club or politics, it is all the same. Kill or be killed! Rules are why we will be extinct in a few years!

[a school board member and charter boat owner just sold his land on Stock Island for 8.4 million dollars. I know no affordable housing will be built there. ] Of course not, but high end condos and maybe a resort, will be. Why, because Stock Island has deep water. Deep water means bigger yachts, and bigger yachts mean bigger bucks! The "affordable shacks" will be built from Bay Point to Big Pine Key, where the junta can push the Stock Island peasants to. Don't kid yourself, this is the plan because we don't have deep waters around the Lower Keys and transportation for the servant personnel will be supplied free to the Key West area.

[Darfur] So that civil war we should go settle?  I need a program.

Both Bush and Clinton were and are terrible presidents. They are the epitome of dirty politicians. I was a republican. I was brought up to believe republicans wanted less government. What happened? They have created so much bureaucracy over the last several years it makes me sick. I will not vote for either a democrat or republican this time around. I'm going for the independent.

[Don't crap when you are at Picnic Isle.] Wait until you get to a canal and crap there. Most canals are nothing but septic drain off's anyway, so what's the big deal?

[Selective editing] Certainly. That's the very definition of "editor". It's the perks of being Ed. It's kind of like being king.

Injade will be back at the Key Deer again this Friday night from 7-11pm. And if there's no threat of rain there will be a great BBQ too.

You can also hear Injade debut in Marathon this Saturday night at a benefit for the Kids Music Camp at the amphitheater in Marathon. Injade will be going on around 9:00 and it's suppose to be a great party.  Hope to see you all this weekend!

Sea Lice
get into your bathing suit and they don't go away by washing only. They burrow into your skin so wearing a thong in a sea lice infested area is probably not a good idea. All the people throwing chicken bones and other garbage in the water out there is most likely the reason for the infestation.

[Mercenary defender] May I ask you, did your mother have any smart children? What good it is to make a profit if you're dead. Or in your eyes a soldier has no right to stay alive. The uniformed code of military justice has nothing to do with combat. We all know that is immoral to kill defenseless women and children, they are noncombatants. But you see a kid or a female in a second story window with a rifle or a grenade. Run away, so she can have a go at you later? Sure there are some that are without scruples. Name me a profession that lacks those. I hate to think of my son, or any soldier loosing his life because he had to think about what he should do while looking down the barrel of a rifle held by a kid. I'll shoot a kid if he pointed a bow and arrow at me with intent.

...and here's your foo king license.

The United States of America made Brazil and other country's get standardized passports for everyone traveling in the western hemisphere by land, sea and air by December 31, 2006. Brazil accomplished this. Our country could not. I thought Brazil, along with their beautiful women, bikinis, and waxing was kind of like a third world country, but they have their act together more then we do. Our great country will be lost because of politicians that only care about themselves.

[To the person who saw my point] I don't think you could have seen my point if you were looking through the Hubble telescope!

Speaking of the electric company; what's up with all the power outages lately? It's beginning to remind me of 20 years ago when it was the old City Electric.

Homeland security has a form for illegal immigrants entering our country to declare a firearm. Isn't that simply hilarious? Like an illegal alien is going to fill out a form for homeland security stating that he is bringing a gun to the US. Why is homeland security getting involved with the girls who are getting harassing phone messages? We have police and FBI for that. I thought homeland security was for anti-terrorist stuff. But like the family said the cops weren't doing anything.

[Men kill animals; it has always been that way] That's poppycock. I personally know lots of men who do not kill animals, never have killed an animal, and never would.  They also don't eat them, wear them or have them around for their general amusement purposes. So, no, that statement is in error.  Just as much as there may be "men" who kill animals, there are also other "men" out there who don't.  I personally think it comes down to compassion and respect for other living things.  It seems to me that there is a general aura of desensitization and ignorance regarding animals, as demonstrated in the statement at the beginning of this paragraph.

Every animal has its own reality, it's own experience and life.  Just like us. Most of the time from what I have observed, animals are just doing their thing, trying to live the life they were born into just like us until a human being takes it away from them (sometimes it’s another animal).  Animals do experience emotions and fear and pain among other sensations like us as well. We just have to start thinking about if we were them in any given situation, how would we react, how would perceive what is going on and what would it feel like as that situation is happening at that moment to us?  That knowledge is why we should try to adopt a more compassionate and insightful attitude towards animals in general.  If we can control it, which we can, if we can control whether or not an animal lives or dies or its quality of life, then given that ability, maybe we should take the more positive approach.  Try to (mentally or physically) experience the conditions the animal is in or has to be exposed to, and if you think (or know) it would be terrifying or painful, the animal probably does too.
I can't speak for everyone, but I think perhaps part of the reason everyone is so pissed off about the gator situation is that the people who killed it did not seem to demonstrate that insight as I spoke of above, and that could be dangerous.  And even if people do not agree with my insight, then there is the fact that they took away something that many people around here felt quite fondly towards.  Some people liked the alligator and it brought them some degree of happiness or pleasure  knowing it was there, seeing it and thinking it was relatively safe. these men intruded upon that when they killed it.  So not only did they take the life away from this animal that had the misfortune of, well, just trying to live it's life undisturbed, but they also took away something from us folks who had the pleasure of knowing him or her, even if it was a different species than our own and at a distance.

What is the size limit for a boat for the canals.  I have a 31 foot boat I am thinking of buying, but my canal isn't the biggest. Plus it has a 10 foot beam. I think I can get it in, but what’s right for everyone; any thoughts?

You and yours do a fine job with Bigpinekey.com, I'm afraid that I've become a bit addicted to the site.  It really is fascinating to see the different "takes" that can be made by people viewing the same facts.  I've got to confess that I'm surprised by the depth of feeling that some express.  I'm also intrigued by how much people are influenced by emotion rather than reason.

My God, my God, who is the whacko saying those men should get off their punishment after killing the alligators by pulling some weeds along side of the road? Are you freaking nuts? What do you want them to get when they rob the Dions next? What will you want them to get when they rape a woman leaving a local establishment? Everyone knows if they get off without jail time, their going to jump for joy saying, "Look what we did, and we got off!"  What can we do next up on the ladder and see if we can get off with that too?

Do you want that? Well do you ? If you said, “Sure, they can’t be that bad.” well then, (first of all you need to be flogged first) then everyone of you stinking bleeding heart people out here who "feel" for these two, send in your home addresses and we'll be sure to give them to those two and have them pick out which one they will torment next. Heh? Like that? Come on now, go ahead and send them in, I’m sure they wont be "too" bad the next time, or will they?

Hey, "smart judge" how about some time out on the road, on the hot road, in orange? Then maybe some time in-house, perhaps specifically in their cells. Wait, maybe in "Bubba's" condo cell. Yeah, have them spend some good ole' time in Bubba's cell.  After that experience they'll just spend their time sitting around thinking, "What else can we do that’s so stupid that it’ll put us right back in here with our newly found friend, Bubba?"

People, get your heads on right! You want things to be right, but are so freaking scared to do something to make it that way. And you call yourselves Americans!

Clinton was one of the best presidents I have seen in my lifetime.  He had his faults like we all do, but all in all he did a pretty good job.  If he ran a country for two terms and the worst thing he did was receive a little oral pleasure I'd vote for him again.

[Take care of yourself and quit trying to get someone else to plan for you]  Best advice ever spoken, applicable to all areas of life!

Bickering Neighbor Dept.
[Show-Off] You really crave attention with your materialistic acquisitions. What you really need is medication for your Bipolar Disorder. Looks like that dirty money doesn't make you happy. Same with the sourpuss you run with. You deserve each other. It's much classier to be understated than to be ostentatious. You are probably financed to the gills and that's why you both have such nasty dispositions. I would take a poor, happy person over what you claim to have any day. Not jealous, just disgusted and un-impressed. You would never know that we are multi-rich but very happy and low key because we don't have anything to prove.

[Crap on lawn] You didn't have to put up with the stench and the eye burning and the headaches. You didn't have to keep your windows closed all winter and have the air-conditioned running. You could sit on your balcony--we couldn't. The other people across the street have been very friendly. They always smile and say “hi”, you never have. They even welcomed me and my husband to the neighborhood, you never did. You want to know about me. I raised by myself my son who has aspergers(?). for eight years. I took care of my mother when she was bedridden with Alzheimer’s. I have helped my brother-in-law’s family when they needed help and my husband’s mother. But I guess all that doesn't make me as good a person as you. We never knew because we were never told by anyone that samples were taken. We never called on you. So I don't know what you are talking about there. We tried to help Andrew and when we saw we were being ripped off we kicked him out. I even packed up his clothes and threw them outside. There is a lot more to me and my life, but someone as small minded as you would never understand what I went through. Everyone has a story, but I don't think telling you mine would even make a dent. The only people who have been rude to us is you. Everyone else on this street has been very friendly and nice except you.

Calling me a liar about were the contaminated soil came from when I watched and smelled were it came from. No soil was removed from your property only new soil was brought in to replace the soil that was removed from leach field. Yes, I called Code Enforcement when the stench and eye irritation was so bad we had to close all the windows and run the air-conditioning during a time when the weather was nice enough to have them open. Code Enforcement never called back so I have no idea weather they ever came out or not.

As far as the cameras I have are under my house and they cover the carport. How would you know weather I have surveillance or not unless your nose has been looking were it doesn't belong.

Ah, and we come to Andrew. Yes, we did take him in when he was down and out. I made him get a job. When we found out that he could not or would not hold a job he was kicked out. I have helped out many people during my life and will keep doing so if I think they will try to help themselves. Andrew was one that would not help himself and was kicked out for it. Even with all that has been going on if you need help all you need do is knock on our door. If it is in my power and I am able to help I will.

As far as the sheriffs helping you out, I have never said anything about it. I could care less who helps you. I am glad you can turn to someone during these sad times.

E-coli can kill you
. Go to Picnic Island and have a great time. Human and animal waste in the water will kill you. It starts with a very serious viral infection in your intestines. I almost died from it. Call me if you want to. 305-304-1132. I’ll tell you about the horrible problems I have had since drinking water contaminated with shit.  Year and a half and I’m still very sick.

[86 The Hungarian] The evening of the 23rd. was designated for a big Christmas Party, presents for everyone. I was looking forward to that. After a nice Christmas type dinner (mom raised many turkeys, but I never had a turkey dinner) we were to go to the post theater to get presents and see the movie White Christmas. The dinner was wonderful I don't know how many turkeys went to turkey heaven, but everybody got a drumstick. Christmas tunes were played at the dining hall and we ate until it ouched. The theater was all decorated in Christmas finery and there were at least a dozen soldiers in beautiful uniforms. The other soldiers wore their dress uniforms too. Speeches were made and I heard several references to Hungarians and freedom and revolution. When the speeches ended the curtain opened and on the stage was the biggest pile of toys that I have ever seen. The Hungarian

I'm getting a little confused here.  How is it that someone saying how arrogant Jimmy Buffett is considered slander and has their email address printed but someone else calling our current and former President a murderer isn't?  Selective editing at it's finest.  I think out editor must listen to his Jimmy Buffett CD on his way to Key Deer Bar to see The Moon Dogs.  They get protected when the Chief Executive Officer of The United States of America is fair game.

Yes sir, I sure do not love Mr. Clinton:  The other day a poster sang the praises of Bill. The poster praised our intervention in the Bosnia conflict, saying that Clinton is now considered a hero, that our troops were not at risk, and the poster criticized George W Bush for getting involved in a religious conflict.  Stop ethnic cleansing was the battle cry!  Remember that it was Christians killing Muslims in that conflict. We were on the side of the Muslims. That sure sounds like a religious conflict to me.  The west and the US sure as hell didn’t win a lot of collateral in the Muslim world for our saving the Muslim bacon (oops, not politically correct).

During that conflict there were US causalities (that's deaths and wounding).  Further, our forces lost two F117s, both to ground fire.  One Nighthawk crashed, and one made it back to base but never flew again.  Look, Bosnia was a religious war, and it was a proper use of our power.  The pure raw fact is that we did not undertake the Iraq mission to engage a religious conflict.  The US mission was, and continues to be to keep Muslim fundamentalist terror mongers away from the United States and to thwart their ambitions to rule a Muslim planet.

The Poster also claims that Bill Clinton left us (that’s the United States) with “the most powerful military in history”.  My grandpa used to say “look it up”, I did.  In 1990 the US spent about 306.2 billion on its’ military.  In 1999 (the end of the B.C. budgeting) the US spent about 281 billion on its’ military.  I suspect that spending 25 billion less on our troops did not increase the power of our military.

Remember BC’s rant that he hated the military. Enough about Bill Clinton, he’s history.

The Truthiness Encyclopedia

This "unconditional love" trend to promote self-esteem in kids has created a whole bunch of dangerous people who think "bad" means getting caught.

[Another blow against affordable housing in the keys] The lose of another trailer park just puts another dagger in our communities hearts. I am thinking about trying to get my property rezoned. A cannabis farm sounds good. Maybe if I had enough money to lobby these people my dream could become a reality. Andy Griffith a school board member and charter boat owner just sold his land on Stock Island for 8.4 million dollars. I know no affordable housing will be built there. I think the guy who owns the Miami Dolphins and some other very wealthy people bought it. I think his name is Huizenga or something. He does have a beautiful sea plane. Huizenga and some associates(?) are also doing something with Chub Cay in the Bahamas. This guy wants every place to be like Miami. I think it is time for some protests and picketing paparazzi style at these elected officials offices and homes.

I was disappointed in one female volunteer at the Blue Hole. After Wilma I personally reported to a female ranger at the Blue Hole about a Logger Head Turtle swimming around. The women did nothing. She just went back to her conversation with someone about a washer and dryer she lost in the storm. So I then called the turtle rescue center and they too did nothing or at least never let me know if they did. I have never understood their complete apathy to the situation. I believe the turtle died in there.

The guys who killed the gator at the Blue Hole should not get more then one year in jail. Depending on how remorseful they are I could go as low as a couple of months and community service cleaning animal habitat. Long Beach is always disgusting with garbage. We should just put them to work cleaning up BPK. In my small mind the biggest crime they committed was killing a wild animal, not even a mammal that was living in a wildlife reserve. Men kill animals; it has always been that way and will always be that way. But there is a time and a place for it and an animal reserve is not the place. We have these reserves to protect animals. They deserve some punishment, but we already have enough men in prison. These two men could possibly be rehabilitated. They are still young and we should try. There are plenty worse things those guys could have done. There are plenty of dead pine trees that could be cut down and removed. This is a smart judge, and he will come up with something good for these guys.

Someone's talking in circles. First they said they were told by people at the electric company that "there was a computer problem and most Piners didn't get their bill". Then the person said It was a Post Office problem. Is it me or wouldn't the Post Office have to get the bill first? It had to be the electric company because they don't waive fees for someone else's screw ups. Follow the money.

[And we can't send this scum and his lawyer to a penal colony in Afghanistan why?] Kenneth Glenn Hinson, 48, who had served time for raping a 12-year-old girl, was arrested last year after two teenage girls reported that they had been kidnapped from their bedroom and dragged into a tiny, dungeon-like hole in Hinson's backyard, bound with duct tape and repeatedly raped. Despite the evidence, defense lawyer Rick Hoefer managed to convince a jury in Darlington, S.C., to find Hinson not guilty on all charges in April (based on the girls' inconsistent testimony), and Hinson remains in jail today only on an unrelated gun charge.

Cialis for a 36 hour uplift. Video

[Clinton legacy] The rabid Clinton hater forget to mention that in Darfur over 400,000 people have been killed and 2.5 million have been displaced since Bush has done nothing to help them.

If you feel like you have to crap
when you are at picnic Isle.  Just hold it until you get home.  The discomfort will pass after a while.

Yesterday's mercenary defender said it himself, “there are no rules of engagement with mercenaries, extreme violence keeps one alive.” And that is the problem. Rules of engagement and the Uniform Code of Military Justice are the only things that separates “them” from “us”. That is why we are better than them. Mercenaries are animals, always have been. They kill for profit and f**k everyone else.

I am a highly "Spiritual Person" and I am a woman  who attends church regularly!

[Dan Schwab] I agree with these poor folks 100 percent, at least that BMW was worth something!

[Picnic Island] Port-a-potties. If you can't plan ahead bring a bucket or a portable potty of your own.  Or maybe if you have to go take the boat home or to a public restroom somewhere.  People have been going out there for years.  Take care of yourself and quit trying to get someone else to plan for you; or stop trying to make things sound dirty because you don't like it.

If we leave now the Iraqis that are fighting us will start fighting ad Qaeda, whom they hate just as much as the Americans.

Is there anything I can anoint my self with to prevent sea lice.

How many of 24 terror-attacks did Bill Clinton respond to?  When the synchronized 9/11 attacks occurred, remember what Bill remarked?  When Bill left us "the surplus", what one-time market phenomenon occurred simultaneously?  How skilled was his "surplus" bookkeeping?  Is the Kosovo War over? Not for the European Allies we dumped Kosovo onto. No wonder they won't assist Iraq!  With whose corporate assistance did Bill contract in Kosovo? Yup: Halliburton.

[Wetstock 2] If you're too old to control your bowels you should stay home near your toilet. You're probably forgot how to party anyway.

[Greenish brown pieces of cut up skin] While it is hard to verify without seeing them, the description sounds like the algae that floats up from the bottom of many canals this time of year.

Powerful Republicans are breaking with the president on Iraq. Senator Lugar and Warner both have told Bush to get out. I believe Bush is just waiting to leave office so history will show that some other president gets stuck with the quagmire.

[Wetstock 2] Since when does not wanting to swim with turds make you an old fart?

[Locusts] I should have said cicada, I guess. Locusts are grasshoppers.  I don't think I saw any lubber grasshoppers at all last summer. The Wilma surge possibly knocked their numbers way back. The surge killed most of the Cuban ground snails, too, but I'm starting to see them around this summer. I killed two just last night that had apparently climbed up a wire cage to get to my hymenocallis lilly.

I've got no problem with dogs on Picnic Island but it would sure be nice if their owners cleaned up the steaming piles left by their pets on the beach. This would work well at the Ramrod Swimming Hole, too. Maybe most owners do clean up as a courtesy to those sharing the area, but there are obviously some exceptions. I think we can do better.

Enjoy your summer vacation!

[“lizard” skin in canal] It sounds like the crap that's on the canal's bottom. This time of the year there's a heat inversion caused by either warmer water changing places with the cooler water on the top. I forget which one, as I wasn't paying too much attention at school. Hopefully the tides should float it out.

[Waterspout over Marathon] If you stand on your head and squint real hard at  yesterday's photo you can see Dorothy and Toto in the cloud.

[Blue Hole gator killing. You said: Also it was eaten. It was not killed for the fun of killing] There were also migratory, protected birds killed.  Were they going to eat them too?  Is that why they were found floating the next day?  They were all killed for the fun of killing.

[midgets are little people] Wow since you put it that way I see your point, Theo should definitely get a smaller jail cell.

Yeah this old folk feels horrible since he's planning on staying home after the parade, cooking thick steaks on the grill and swimming in our pool. There's a party you don't have to wash up after or smell like urine. Just relax at the end of the day, listen to some great tunes and no need to drink and drive. Yeah I'm crushed I'm not going to Urinestock2. Smell you later!

Medicate your problems away. Video

[sewerage on front lawn] I'm getting a little confused here.  How is it that someone saying how arrogant Jimmy Buffett is considered slander and has their email address printed but someone else calling our current and former President a murderer isn't?  Selective editing at it's finest.  I think our editor must listen to his Jimmy Buffett CD on his way to Key Deer Bar to see The Moon Dogs.  They get protected when the Chief Executive Officer of The United States of America is fair game.

I can't believe I have to answer for a dead man. Howie's Concrete put in that septic system. They are the best in the keys and most know that. They are competitors of your neighbor you are so gossipy with. You’ve been here how long? (maybe one year?) Where are your cameras pointed at? I see them .You forgot that when you called the Health dept. The Head Environmental Specialist came and took samples and if I got it right you people called him many times and he always came out. Tell us all what he told you.

The top soil was from the back of the house not the drain field and there was no smell. Joe Aretz is the man who came and he is the head honcho .Tell the truth when you run people in the ground. Didn’t the Big Pine robber live with you? What was his name; tell us about that. Get off it.  Leave these people alone. Karma takes a big bite in the but when it is abused. I would love to hear your life story.  I bet it would be a little weedy for me. Get it? Why do t he cop cars bother you guys so much? I know what I smelled out there and it was not sewerage. God loves us even when we do not love our self. God Bless You.

[One in-Human Family]  This one particular "human" family are complete phonies.  Your gossipers are gossiping about your gossiping!  It is getting back to some of us.  You are so nice to people’s faces and then turn around and stab them in their backs.  You are divulging sensitive information which you so expertly extracted during your supreme act of being so kind and caring.  You are saying things to people when you really mean the complete opposite.  Why don't you just keep quiet instead of lying?  It is much easier than being a phony one human family.  Your agenda is crystal clear and it is called money grabbing, back stabbing and slander.  I thought only the paper delivery person sent the Christmas card which said hint-hint-hint give me a bonus, but you want a tip on top of all this "service?"  Your jobs are now in jeopardy from your idle chats and lame threats.  Your good deeds are only for money and you freaks deserve all the investigations and karma coming your way, which is very similar to what you have done to some of your neighbors. Enjoy the heat index, you quacks!

If you wear a thong at picnic island you’re going to have an itchy
butt crack infested with sea lice.

[85 The Hungarian] It was a large dining hall, when we walked in the band started to play a marshal tune (Stars and Stripes Forever) and we all clapped to the beat of the music. When the band played the last note all the soldiers in unison said, "Welcome to America" I don't quite know how to explain it, but I really felt welcomed, tears welled up in my eyes, and I saw dad dabbing at his eyes too. A high ranking officer, with stars on his shoulder made a speech in English that none of us could understand. He made perfect sense when at the end he said in Hungarian, " Isten Hozott " which means '”God has brought you” I know he had something to do with it, but it really was a DC-4. We were invited to dinner; no one had to be asked twice. It was self service just like in Newfoundland and all you could eat. I heard dad make a comment to mom, "Dear if I was ten years younger I would sign up in this Army tomorrow." The Hungarian

Tuesday June 26, 2007

[Today's gossip] I just heard that one of the two partners at Key Deer Bar has sold his half and will no longer be there! Say it ain't so! We'll miss you Greg and Joanne.

[Wetstock 2] You old farts really amaze me. Some cool people are putting on a free concert at a remote island in our area and all you do is find fault and make excuses why you have to stay home and watch TV. Only an old person would make so many excuses why they can’t go to a party.

I just returned from the Key's Energy office on Ships Way. I had received a nasty-gram because I was late with my payment. In front of me were 8 other customers holding the same nasty-gram. I said let me guess, "You didn't get your bill either?" They all said they had not. There was a computer mix up and most Piners didn't get an electric bill this month. The lady at the counter said the delinquent fee would be waived and blamed the post office on the problem. Let's not get them riled up. When they go off it's time for body bags.

The "strange boat" that has been here is not an Mk5 SOC follow-on or a Waverider/Waverunner.  It is, however, a prototype vessel.
-- NASKW Port Operations Project Manager.

Boy if this doesn’t remind me of a woman I see at Looe Key Tiki on occasion. Cut her hair to match this and, voila, we have our own "first babe" in Big Pine. You know who you are you little devil in your yellow sports car! Just one night out alone, take a drive somewhere, you and me. Oo-la-la!

To the person bashing Sheriff Roth for corruption in County government.  You are a bit off base with your comments.  If you want to place any blame for ignoring various nefarious activities in county government you should look to the County Attorney’s Office or the Office of the State Attorney General.  They should be held accountable for investigating any shady deals or illegal, behind the scenes activities of county government individuals.  If they find evidence of malfeasance, corruption or illegal activities they would seek indictments and file charges.  Most politicians are slick enough to know exactly how far they can go and how much they can get away with before being actually charged with criminal activity.  However, the longer the crooks are in office and the more dirty deals they get away with the more bolder they become until, eventually, most get caught with their sticky fingers in the till.  (Or, in the case of Bill Clinton, in the intern!)

[Wetstock 2] Is there going to be a pontoon with porta-potties on it at Picnic Island? My dog hates going potty in front of people.

[sent yesterday] To Judge Miller:I have lived between Little Torch and Big Pine for the past 15 years. I moved down from Maryland for the tranquil beauty of the laid back atmosphere that these two islands had to offer. They both offer a view of the unique wildlife that lives here in the Keys. If we continue to get rid of that wildlife, no matter how small we think it is, then just how long will it be before there is none left for anyone to see or want to come here for. Indigenous animals that live here in the Keys should be protected and should have strict regulations and penalties for those who go against the law and put those animals in harms way, or worse, kill them.

One of these individuals has had a track history with the law, lives on my road, and is a constant hassle for the community. This act that was committed was no surprise that he did it, however it was a surprise as to what was done, but nevertheless, a crime like this should not and cannot go unpunished. What is this teaching the youths of the area, that’s its okay to shoot anything you want to, no matter if protected or not, just join the forces, they’ll protect you and you can get away with anything you do. That’s just ludicrous, if you want more cases like this in your court room, clogging up the system over these kind of situations, then allow them to get off.

The people in Big Pine pride ourselves in telling visitors that we have alligators here, and where to tell them to go see them. It is a tourist stop on their way to Key West, of which those kinds of stops are being deleted all the time. Bad times for business in the Keys mean we need all types of help, even if it comes from an animal just living in his/her environment for people to look at. Take these away from us, and it’s like putting another nail in Big Pine’s coffin, and trust me, the developers are doing a fine job of that themselves and need no outside help.

We need to set an example of this sort of behavior, and that it won’t be tolerated here in the Keys, or for that matter, anywhere. The youth of today are getting away with too much and we cannot afford to just send them off to the forces and get away with crimes that they committed just because their going to serve. It’s a growing cancer that needs to be rid of whenever a young individual commits a crime, they feel as though they can join up to one of our forces, and escape any penalties for their actions. That is an umbrella that is used and it puts a black spot on our forces, I say build back up the kind of correction policy that was in place years ago, that dealt with people like these two men, and let them feel the consequences of their actions, and not give them more and bigger guns to have in their possession. If any consideration is given to any physic analysis of people who do these types of actions, it is documented that they become much more than what they had started out as, they become habitual offenders, and escalating their actions as well. They were adults when this happened, so treat them like adults, you break the law, now pay the price for doing so, PERIOD. I say, cut the cord, and throw that damned pacifier away!

[Subcontracting violence] I disagree with that statement. Recent history, lets see now? Indochina war '49-'54, the French used the Legion (mercs), Congo Katanga insurrection '60's Col. Mike Hoar and the Wild Geese did what 3 times as many UN troops couldn't (mercs), Viet Nam War, thousands of Montagnards employed by the CIA (mercs), Falklands War, when the

Argentines got word that the Ghurkas were coming, they decided to surrender. The Ghurkas are the little tough soldiers from Nepal and have been mercenaries of the Britt’s for hundreds of years. They are famous for taking heads with their curved knives.

The nuts and bolts of the matter are that a handful of professionals can achieve what is not achievable for a standard army. There are no rules of engagement with mercenaries, extreme violence keeps one alive. That's the nature of the profession, if you're a threat, you die! There is no time to think, your survival instinct takes over. The contract guards behave in a fashion to protect the client and to stay alive. They would not kill someone for no good reason, so don't make stupid statements until you have been in that situation. Read Epitaph for an army of Mercenaries

One little fact left out of Clinton’s legacy and understandably we know why. 800,000 Rwandans died while Clinton lied with Monica.
Some legacy there, big guy.

[McCoys and Hatfields]  This is what happens when you assume something.  Because of someone who has nothing to do with Coconut Palm Dr, except  to use the road to enter and exit Eden Pines wanted to know why the cop cars were parked there daily. That started a Rant and Rage between neighbors. How do you feel now? Now we will have all kinds of trash being thrown back and forth and one side of the street not bothering with the other. (assume “makes an ass out of u and me” is so true.)

Waterspout over Marathon on Sunday.

I am always fascinated with people that run off their mouths without knowing the facts. Jimmy Buffett does still own a house in Key West, and he does use his recording studio, Shrimp Boat Sounds, on Lazy Way Lane.  'Why is it that the people that know the least always know it the loudest?'

How much for a Protestant?

Fiends or family of the alligator killers have done an internet search of the story and are doing everything in their power to support the little thugs.  Perhaps this explains why the kids acted the way they did.  With a lack of discipline, and family supporting their criminal behavior, it's no wonder they acted this way.  I've got news for the person minimizing the incident and disputing what happened.  They admitted to the crime.  The baseball bats were not made up by the newspapers.  And just because one of them is serving in the military does not mean he shouldn't be punished for his crimes.  And to say the alligator was killed humanely is a joke.  There was nothing legal or humane about the whole incident and the kids deserve to be punished harshly.

[Conservancy leaders say it's a ritualistic sacrifice]
1) A severed goat's head wrapped in a plastic bag was found floating in the Key Largo pen where a newborn dolphin calf died last week. The calf, Wilson, had gained national attention because it was born to a deaf mother, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, rescued in November after being stranded near Vero Beach. The calf died June 15, four days after he was born.
2) The goat's head was in the calf's pen the day he was discovered dead.
3) On the afternoon of June 15, Monroe County Sheriff's Office Officer Gustavo Helago responded to a call from the president of the Marine Mammal Conservancy.
4) The goat's jaw was wired shut, its testicles were hanging from the mouth and the head was wrapped in a plastic bag. There's speculation that the head may be related to a ritual performed in the Afro-Cuban religion, Santeria, which combines both Catholic and African beliefs. “It's called a 'death's head,'...a male with horns, testicles hanging from its mouth,” “It means death to an area or death to a person.”
5) “This kind of thing is not uncommon in the Florida Keys,” said the public information officer with the Sheriff's Office, referring to ritualistic animal slaughter.
The initial necropsy showed that the dolphin calf was very healthy at the time of death. The independent investigator said this was the healthiest calf they'd ever seen.
What is going on with these marine mammal rescue people? Rumor has it a lowlife former member sits across the canal from this rescue facility and video tapes the goings on. Whoever did this to the goat deserves the same treatment.

I just heard my first locust of the season. I like that sound.

I've no doubt that this feral cat argument is getting old. A couple of final thoughts and I'll quit.  Be aware of what you're told and not told by our bureaucrats, whether USFWS, USDA, etc. Demand an accounting of what they're doing and why. It's your money being spent, and they're responsible to you.

Their current project is based on old data from the early and mid-90's and was conducted on Keys  other than BPK, on property owned by the Navy. At the time, the Navy was mowing rabbit habitat.  That has since stopped, thanks to the research. The results of that research unfortunately do not necessarily apply to BPK. In a well done study published in 2006, researchers tried to count juvenile rabbit droppings (pellets) to determine their number on BPK and concluded that juvenile pellets were difficult to find in areas with thick grass. So we don't know how many there are.

Feral cats are a problem. We just don't know the extent of the problem. The apparent widespread trapping  that's been implemented will not work, as was shown in a study of over 26,000 feral cats in CA and FL.  There are other techniques for trapping that are more effective (Foley, P., Foley, J.E., et.al., JAVMA, Dec., 2005).  One untrapped feral female can produce up to 3 litters a year. This project is funded at $50,000 for 1 year. Do the math!  How can those monies be more effectively spent?

According to the studies, One Cat 3 hurricane can result in a 90% mortality rate among marsh rabbits.  How many hurricanes have we had since 1993 when the original counts were made?

This USFWS/USDA study was funded for the Upper and Lower Keys. The only place the Lower Keys marsh  rabbit is found is, you guessed it, the Lower Keys. The Upper Keys animal shelters hold the animals for 3 days, and if not adopted, kill them. Fortunately, the shelters in Marathon and Big Pine are no-kill shelters.  They spay/neuter, vaccinate, and try to adopt out. That's humane. Fortunately, USFWS/USDA is currently  cooperating...reportedly, unless a cat is caught twice, in which case it is immediately killed (that includes  pets). The person doing the trapping reportedly doesn't really care and there is no oversight.

The U.S. Navy has enacted regulations requiring that any Navy personnel adopting a pet have it neutered.  The results remain to be seen, but show promise. A similar regulation was attempted by the combined animal  shelters of the Keys and a county commissioner a few months ago. It failed miserably, primarily due to dog breeders,  politics, and apathetic people. As has been aptly stated, we can't have it both ways.

Marsh rabbits, at last count, are being successfully introduced into suitable habitat on two of the outer  Keys where there are no people or cats. At last report, there was an 81% success rate and new litters  of rabbits. There are lots of other Keys to be explored for suitable habitat. Not bad for the money!

All research is subject to scrutiny, and all research is limited in it's scope due to many factors. When  decisions are made, they should be made based on a current consensus of findings and solid, honest  research. Unfortunately, not all research is adequately policed by its peers.  Finally, one of the reported predators of marsh rabbits is poachers. It would seem reasonable that this project include the trapping and relocation of them (prison would be good).  Enough? OK!

[Clinton’s fellatio put the nation at risk?] That’s the funniest damn thing I’ve ever read on here.

I’ve seen trained seals balance a beach ball, but bees? Trained Bees

Picnic Island: What is it that people don't understand?  When you have to go, you go.  Don't you remember taking your kids to the public pool?  I never peed in the pool, they told me it would turn blue.  When I did and it didn't turn blue, I used to save up for the pool to try to turn the water blue. And yes, you are lucky you didn't swim in that pool. I had to swim in the private pool where the kids really didn't give a shit, if you know what I mean.  I'll swim at Picnic Island anytime.

Does anyone know what was floating in the canal in Little Torch off Blackbeard Rd at approximately 6:00pm, Monday, June 25th?  It looked like a lot of cut up pieces of some sort of lizard skin and was a brownish green.  What could it have possibly been, does anyone know?  If it was some sort of cut up animal, how would that happen, boats?  Is there someone to call when dead animals or random skin is found floating in your canal?  There was a whole lot of whatever this stuff was, not like it was just a piece or two.  I really hope it wasn't a cut up reptile.
Chaney now is claiming that the vice president is not part of the Executive branch of government to avoid giving routine information to the National Archives. He's gone so far as to try to disband the Archives. Chaney is the most dangerous man to a free society since Hitler.

[Killed gator for food]  Like the Winn-Dixie wasn't good enough for them?  Were they starving and the Dion's wasn't open that late?  What? I heard that the two boys (men) who killed that alligator did it in the Key Deer Refuge and then videotaped it. I think the fact that it was a refuge is something to be considered. I think of my house as a refuge too. Hell, I hope someone doesn't get crazy, come in here and blow my brains out through my eye sockets while I'm on the toilet or something.  That would be murder, not at all unlike what those boys did.

Did they put it on the internet or did they just take photos? That I do not know but I saw one of the photos. The baseball bat, that's something that the Key Deer Refuge had told me about.  I'm sure they would know. I'm sure if anyone calls them, they will be happy to reveal the true story. Either way, I don't think anyone should be looking for an excuse to let them off just because some other people tortured an alligator in Key Largo and nothing happened to them.  This is Big Pine, and we should care about what happens here, what we let happen here and what we do about events once they have happened (and are unpleasant, and/or illegal).  So if we all want to go crazy about these two, then that's our prerogative.  It means we are not willing to accept something and we're not going to stand for it and we don't need others insinuating that we are hypocrites just because of some teens in Key Largo.
If it was up to me all four of them would serve jail time and pay maximum fines. I'm sure there are a lot of people serving our country in the war who don't abuse and kill animals.

Remember that animal abuse is still a crime, it is punishable.

To the bleeding heart for the two "boys" being sentenced for the killing of the Blue Hole gator:  all sources have been well considered.  It is a shame that the juvenile and the midget were let off with just community service and probation, but evidently their part in the crime was being the driver and lookout.  Milo and Goll were, according to the confessions and statements made to the arresting officers, the ones dealing the blows and shots.  Yeah, the newspapers said the animal was tortured, and beaten to death with a baseball bat, but again, it came from the confessions and statements made to the officers.

From everything I have been told, they didn't kill it for the meat.  Some of the meat and carcass was taken to a party TWO NIGHTS later in Marathon; they just wanted to brag about what they did.  Most of the meat and carcass was thrown in a canal over there.  Besides, whether they ate it or not is a moot point.  If they wanted alligator meat, they could have gone up in the state and gone through the proper permitting process to go hunt an alligator, not go into a federal wildlife refuge, where the animals are all supposed to be protected, and take one that is semi-tame from so much human interaction.  They  took advantage of those animals and they should pay for it.

You ask that we tell you the difference in killing this alligator and spearing a fish and eating it?  You are one scary person if you can't tell the difference.  Spear fishing in most areas is legal; although I feel fishing is a cruel sport, it is still legal.  Killing an alligator without a permit, and especially in a federal wildlife refuge, is against the law.

Where did you get all the info about the teens in Key Largo?  They didn't drag the alligator anywhere.  They shot the gator north of Monroe County and brought it back to their home, just for the skin.  No one showed up in the courtroom because it never got that far.  Maybe there was no evidence to support the charges, no confessions, no statements from witnesses, as there is in this case.  It's a shame that they got away with their crime, but they will pay eventually.

I guess you are talking about the American Crocodile, Charlie, who was killed by 4 Latinos from Miami, all in their 30's and 40's, by dragging behind a Hummer.  I wish I could have been there, but that case looked cut and dried, until the stupid veterinarian that did the necropsy put as the cause of death "cancer."  That pretty well shot the prosecution's case apart, but the guys did have to pay $5000.00 in fines, plus probation, plus community service.  It should have been much worse punishment, but, unfortunately, each case is different in the eyes of the law.

You say one is set to deploy to Baghdad July 15?  I personally do not want someone of this mindset defending my country; and one of them got a DUI last July.  Did you read their comments on Myspace.com?  They have no respect for the laws of this county, state or country.  I wonder what the Army will think of them when they find out they pleaded guilty to a third degree felony?

So, yeah, I believe all sources have been well considered in this case.  These "boys" are adults in the eyes of the law, and they need to be punished.

New drug: Oxyclinton Video

Buffet hasn’t abandoned the Keys. He owns a recording studio, a house and a restaurant. How much do you, his jealous detractor, own here?

[Once a frat boy always a frat boy] In March, Israel recalled Tsuriel Raphael, its ambassador to El Salvador, after he was found tied up, drunk and naked in the front yard of his residence, with several sadomasochistic sex toys nearby.

To the person commenting about Clinton’s lying to Congress. Yes he did. Are you upset about Bush refusing to take the oath of honesty when he is requested to answer questions? I guess you can’t be caught lying if you don’t have the dignity to put your hand on a bible and tell the truth. Why the hiding? Bush not only refused to take the oath of honesty, he refused to go before them without Cheney.

No one ever mentions Bush Senior’s presidency. Republicans always mention Dubya and Reagan. What did Bush senior do other then saving Kuwait?

Cats in the keys are pests and they serve no purpose in the natural ecosystem or natural environment here on Big Pine. I agree with that statement completely. If they weren't so cute as kittens they would be easier to euthanize.  I've been ridding my area of them for a couple of years, and don't have a problem removing them from the ecosystem. I've only caught two that had collars, but they shouldn't have been outside hunting. Keep cats indoors!

It seems that about once a year people start complaining about dogs at Picnic Islands.  The dogs are there.  They have been coming there for many years and will continue to come there.  I personally don't think they should be there but that is my opinion so I don't go there.  The dogs are there to stay.  Accept them or don't go.  There are plenty of very nice little islands with beaches out on the back side.

[the Clinton Legacy]  OK, OK, I really didn’t want to get into this, but yesterday’s posting concerning the wonderfulness of His Slickness has goaded me into it.  I’ll not spend a lot of time and space writing my own screed, but rather will urge you to go to www.prorev.com/legacy.htm   These folks most definitely are not fans, but they have done the research.  So Clinton fans, grab a cup of Kool-aid, relax, buckle in, and take the ride. That is, if you’ve got the stones.  I'll save George Walker Bush for another day.

To the person complaining about the kid's that killed the alligator. First let me say that midgets are little people and that Theo turned himself in and although what they did was wrong he was not in on the actual killing of the alligator.  I know Theo personally and he is one of the nicest kid's I know. It's hard enough being a little person let alone a little person trying to fit in with his peers. Let the punishment fit the crime.

[84 The Hungarian] Water, water everywhere and we’d been in the air for hours. The flight was smooth, mom wasn't suffering and that was a plus. After the stewardesses’ served lunch, somebody on the starboard side of the plane said, "I see land!" It was probably the same way aboard the 'Santa Maria' because just about everyone from the port side got up to get a glimpse of their future home. I too crowded to one of the windows, but could only see a grayish snow covered coastline. Mom was one of those who would rather rubberneck after we were on the ground. I do not know how much time had passed. Looking down at the ocean I started to see ships more frequently. From the port side again came the news, "I see a city!" This time there was no rush to the windows, the seat belt light was on and the stewardess wanted everyone to keep their seats. The Hungarian

Monday June 26, 2007

I would like to compare Clinton to Bush since someone asked. Clinton lied to the American people under oath about an extramarital affair. When it became obvious he was lying he went before America, admitted he lied and apologized and was disbarred from practicing law.

He helped end ethnic cleansing in Kosovo to the point that he is considered a hero and is having a statue in his honor being created. Is held on high for helping bring down and prosecute Milosevic, the Hitler wannabe, without putting American troops in harms way. He also left (according to American Generals) Bush with the strongest military in the world’s history. He also reduced the national debt $223 billion in just one year.

Bush holds the liberal media, Al Gore, Rosie O’Donnell, the elite media, Michael Moore, Cindy Sheehan, Democrats, John Kerry, General Wesley Clarke, Hippies, Progressives, Independents, your neighbor and anyone within ear shot responsible for his failures. He has not gone before America and admitted his lies to the American people. He has injected American troops in the middle of a 2,000 year religious war (according to members of his own administration such as the highly decorated Colon Powell and other field generals) with trumped-up and cherry picked intelligence. Has squandered and weakened the worlds greatest military in history. He increased the national debt to a 47 year high.

Prove any fact I have written wrong. No need for insults, lets talk facts.

Mercenaries are not called mercenaries in Iraq. They all are called sub-contractors. It’s a more evasive name for the American public to swallow than calling the less politically correct “mercenary”. It’s just like the phrase “troop surge” instead of calling it an escalation. The man who came up with these palatable terms was interviewed on the radio and explained it all.

[Sea lice from dogs] Now there’s a person who hasn’t lived here very long!

[So much for spreading democracy] Prime Minister Maliki has reasserted a law allowing it to block corruption probes against ministers and has already used it to protect political allies.

[Port Pine Heights] I forgot the cost, but as I recall, most of the lots on the north end were around 1,299 bucks. The Kyle Bros would hold the paper. 10%down (about 130 dollars) and a 10% per month payment (about 12 to 15 bucks). The interest rate was next to nothing. Change. Wasn’t that something? But you weren’t here then, were you?

I am sorry but I am so fed up with these nuts who have nothing to worry about than trapping and getting rid of feral cats! These cats are a pest, and they serve no purpose in the natural ecosystem or natural environment here on Big Pine. To argue that they have some type of inherent value as one of nature's creatures and therefore should run unchecked and uncontrolled is absolutely ridiculous. Their existence here has some significant detrimental side effects. We shouldn't even be arguing or worrying about the way they are trapped or how they are disposed of unless people’s pets or creatures that should be here loose on the island are harmed. Enough is enough!  Who gives a crap about how these filthy pests are disposed of?

You animal rights folks that argue feral cats are OK because they are one of natures creatures and are OK because they naturally torture, play with and kill other animals are ridiculous. You can't have it both ways. Either it is OK for humans to torture animals or it is not. Of course it is not! Just like pitbulls--by their nature they are aggressive and fight. When humans allow it to occur they are guilty of cruelty.   Humans, not nature, put these cats on the island to go unchecked and uncontrolled so every time an animal is tortured by one of these unchecked and uncontrolled cats and you oppose ridding the island of them You are supporting animal cruelty and torture. Think about that for a while. Hopefully you will stop posting and we can just get rid of these problem non-native and non-appropriate loose cats.

[
sea lice] Am I detecting a feud brewing about people bringing dogs to Picnic Island?

The surge will not work. This statement has been made by many including me. Not one decision about this war that has been made by Bush has worked, so why should the surge work? All it does it allow the Iraqis to kill more of our sons and daughters until we leave. The surge is a very bad idea and only delays our exit and gives them more time to kill more Americans. It’s not worth the cost as the end result will be the same. We are eventually leave in defeat as we did in Vietnam; why not leave now? Shame on you Mr Bush!

[Hatfield and McCoys] As a resident of Eden Pines, it has been interesting to read the comments of the 2 families with the long term feud. As neighbors, you must try to coexist. Neighbors must put up with occasional noise, branches growing into another yard, cats walking on your property, children playing, etc. We have had an occasional problem with neighbors, but have tried to handle it in a nice manner. Since this issue has gone on for so many years, it would seem like the best solution would be for someone to move. I remember witnessing these 2 people at the bus stop about 8 years ago. Actually it was just one of them that screamed in front of all the children. I cannot believe this is still going on. I do not personally know the one lady whose husband died, but know who she is and am sorry for her loss. However, knowing who I think the other family is, I must speak to support them. The child of this family said it best. This Mother is always there to support her children (not that the other lady is not) and has been a fixture and staunch supporter of many wonderful children's activities-AYSO, Little League, High School sports, etc. This is a nice family! Hard working people with good kids! It must be awful to live where you must constantly have to watch what you say, do, who comes to visit. There have been so many negative things said, I just had to speak up and say something nice about the family I know and let others know they are nice people who help lots of people.

Where does one poop while at picnic island?

The blind hatred of Clinton is only superseded by the blind hatred of Bush.

I love it when a woman states that she is a "spiritual person". That means she doesn’t go to church.

The best radio station is 93.1 in Miami. If you can't pick it up go to www.93rock.com and listen online. Finally a decent alternative station. I am so sick of "Jurassic" rock.

[willing to send you a list of articles supporting my statements] I'm not interested in who you are, and you certainly have the right not to disclose information.  I'm not going to print a list of links to all of these references, simply because it would take up too much space on The Telegraph’s site, but should you be interested, you'll find some of the articles by Googling "research on Lower Keys marsh rabbits," some on a CD provided by the Refuge used to support their grant application, and some on USFWS's site by following the links to "endangered species." There is a plethora of articles accessible by internet on population viability analysis.

Unfortunately, you'll either have to have internet library access or make a trip to the Univ. of Florida for a copy of E. Forys dissertation entitled "Metapopulations of Marsh Rabbits:  A Population Viability Analysis of the Lower Keys Marsh Rabbit (Sylvilagus Palustris Hefneri)," along with the associated spin-off articles.  On page 26 of her dissertation, she is clear that all of her subsamples were from 6 habitat patches out of a possible 59 patches located throughout the Lower Keys.  All were on U.S. Navy land.  Five were from Boca Chica and 1 from Saddlebunch.  None from BPK, or other Keys with habitat patches, were studied.  The fact that it was U.S. Navy land with transient personnel who abandon pets and land that is largely fenced, presents a potentially serious source of error.  There are many, many more possible sources of error and bias in the paper (and too numerous and lengthy to go into here) which could affect the outcomes, although this is not uncommon in studies of this nature.  Forys addresses many of these which you can read for yourself.

A point I was trying to make and that was cut off at the end of my comments was that there are alternative management strategies available to save the marsh rabbit that may be more promising and certainly more humane that killing animals.  You'll find these discussed in Forys' research (pp 18-19, 164), although I admit that she prefers the idea of killing animals over these other possibilities.  Over the past months, several alternatives and compromises have been presented and been rebuffed.

If you have references, links, etc. that are worthwhile, please feel free to email them to me at concernedcitizen54@yahoo.com.  I am open to other ideas.  By the way, the grant for this project was submitted on a USFWS Intergovernmental Agreement Form, principally to the USFWS and secondarily to USDA Wildlife Services.  It really doesn’t matter to which you refer, it all comes out of the same pot; our pockets.  By the way, raccoons are being trapped, removed from BPK and turned over to a highly-regarded wild animal advocate who will relocate them.

I have seen quite a few floating Baby Ruths around Picnic Island during the weekends. They are either doggie or human, but either way, totally disgusting. I would feel safer swimming in my septic tank. At least I know where it came from.

This is in regards to the two boys being sentenced for the killing of the American alligator. All sources need to be well considered before all the people of the keys go up in arms against them. Consider the midget Theo Darleck is being let off with a little community service. The minor was let off with six months of probation. Why should age or height save two when the other two, Milo and Goll burn at the stake for the actions of four individuals? Also there is an uproar about the animal being tortured. Who said the animal was tortured, the newspaper? Can we believe everything we read in the paper?

No baseball bats were put into evidence so how does anyone know the animal was tortured? Also it was eaten. It was not killed for the fun of killing; it was killed no differently then spearing a fish and eating it. Tell me what’s the difference? And in case no one knew, Milo has been honorably serving our nation’s army for three and half years and if he doesn't go to jail he will be going to fight a war for a country who wants nothing more to do with him then condemn him for a mistake.

He is set to deploy to Baghdad Iraq on 15 July. Timothy Goll has been trying to join the army but he cannot until this whole case is cleared up. The two teens who killed an alligator in Key Largo were let off completely! They dragged it behind a truck until it died. That animal's limbs where ground off on hard asphalt until it bled to death. No one showed up to their court room to get blood from them. I think shooting an alligator through the eye and into the brain is a lot more humane then just torturing it for fun. So where is the justice in that? We let those sick individuals go but the ones who killed for food we want to hang?

I am voting for Fred Thompson for president solely because his wife is a hottie; she will be known as the "First Babe".

There are many web sites and blogs devoted to the Keys. I have one myself, 'This Week on the Island'. Of them all I love this one the best, Keep up the good work. (Ed: thanks for the kind words. We couldn’t find your site.)

[dislike organized religion] I think it has more to do with his race than religion. Babin turned his life around and became a minister after being convicted of armed robbery in the mid-1970s.

[It was cruising not “cursing”] Now that we know it's a Navy boat, very likely it was doing both.

Did Imre take a break?  I miss the Tale of the Hungarian!

Teen caught having sex with horse. A teenager has been arrested after he was caught on video having sex with a horse in a barn. The owners of the barn in Corvallis, Oregon, had installed the video surveillance camera after previous assaults on the horse, reports the Corvallis Gazette-Times. They were shocked to see footage of the teen sexually assaulting the mare when they checked the video in February. Deputy Clay Stephens, who viewed the video, said the youth seemed very practiced, not hurried but not wasting any time. He seemed to be following a "very concise, deliberate, well-thought-out plan". The owners then installed a silent alarm in the barn which sounded in their house at about 2.30am on June 7. They checked the video monitor, saw the teenager preparing to assault the horse again, and called the sheriff's office. Police officers rushed to the scene and arrested the teenager who was charged with burglary and sexual abuse of an animal.

[Thinning the herd] A 29-year-old man from Downers Grove, Ill., deciding for some reason to set off fireworks in his yard, was killed when he picked up an unexploded missile and peered down the tubing to see why it hadn't gone off yet (and the obvious happened).

Wetstock 2 sounds great. However the idea of spending a day in shallow water while everyone drinks and pee's around you and lets their dogs swim and of course use the facilities there isn’t that attractive to me. Throw in the millions of sea lice and it loses a bit more of its appeal. Enjoy the day folks and have fun. Think I’m going to wait until its a bit less crowded. Go ahead and enjoy yourselves and for heaven’s sake take a shower when you get home.

I generally find dog droppings and children fairly indistinguishable, so I guess Picnic Island's off my list as well.

I see the talk about Jimmy Buffett.  Someone said the people of The Keys don't hate him.  Being someone who knows him and dealt with him a lot I can honestly say he is not a nice guy.  Keep him in West Palm where people of his kind live.  I have never met such an ungrateful arrogant person in my life.  In 1983 he played at Sloppy Joes and announced that he made Key West famous.  No, Key West made him famous.  That same day he did a radio interview saying how much he hated Key West's gays.  Would you go to a Miami Dolphin's game to say how much you hate football players?  And, no, I'm not gay.  Lucky for us he doesn't own a house here anymore.  He still does own a recording studio on Lazy Way but I don't think he has ever seen it.  David Allen Coe has a great song everyone should listen to about The Keys.  It's called "Jimmy Buffett Don't Live Here No More."  For anyone wondering, David does have a house right in Big Pine Key. --funinthesun_34@hotmail.com

I'm a nosy neighbor in Eden Pines, who is the other one?

[Hate Bill Clinton]  Nah, I don’t hate Slick Willie, but I sure has hell don’t respect him or think that he was even a mediocre President.  The problem of the delivery of “military secrets” to the Chinese will continue to vex with us for decades.  The Clinton administration permitted the sale to China of software and hardware that facilitated the insertion of satellites to orbit. Prior to the sale, China had no reliable method of orbiting satellites or of accurately aiming and delivering MRV’d ballistic missiles that can strike the US.  They do now!  Now China is a major competitor in the space exploitation race.  I believe that the name of the business that facilitated the delivery was Loral, a major contributor to Bill Clinton’s political funds.  Slick Willie’s admin also permitted the delivery of specialized computerized hardware and software to our Communist brethren. Hughes Tool Company and others instituted major arms sales initiatives to the Chinese government.  Goodies such synthetic aperture radar were on the block under the caring eyes of Slick Willy et al.  Do you really think that these sales make our troops safer?

There’s lots more stuff like “Travel Gate” early on in his admin.  The wonders of the “Hillary Care” fiasco educated many of us to the dangers of a single payer health care system.  How about New Orleans and Katrina; the failure of the levee on the 17th street canal was traced back to its’ construction and the use of substandard techniques and materials on the Clinton watch.  In 1993 World Trade Center 1.  There’s plenty more, but why waste time and space.

The issue of Clintons’ fondness for fellatio, (not that there’s anything wrong with that), is worth some discussion.  Fellaltio fondness was not the issue.  His actions placed his presidency and the security of this nation at risk.  The very fact that he felt forced to lie about it proves that he was aware that his conduct with a paid intern was illegal, (it was) and that he was frightened at the prospect of the accusations being proved.  What would have been the consequences if Monica had confided in an agent of a foreign enemy of this country?  Now carry it just a tad further.  Did Slick Willy lie in a federal investigation?  Did that lie tie this country in knots and paralyze his administration?  Yep!  He got disbarred, big deal.  Scooter Libby apparently lied in a federal investigation.  He was convicted and sentenced to prison.  Public officials shouldn’t lie about anything.

Slick Willies admin is history, I don’t hate him, and in fact I might even take him fishing.  As a president though, he blew.

There has been one thing left out of the complaining about the neighbors on Coconut Palm Dr. One of these good neighbors dug up their septic system then took the dirt and spread it on their lawn. I know several people were affected by this. One person has COPD and that person’s life was made very difficult because of this. I have looked into this and found out that using the dirt like that is toxic and is harmful to people. There are young children and elderly people on this street and this wonderful man could have cared less about other people that live on this street. Using human waste like that spreads disease. Don't write in and tell me I'm wrong about this because I checked into it and I used several different resources and they all said the same thing: human waste is not meant to be used as fertilizer.

Sunday June 24, 2007

As everyone should know by now, the two main defendants, in the killing of the alligator and birds at the Blue Hole on March 24, 2006, plead guilty to the third degree felony of killing an alligator a few weeks ago, with the sentencing date to be announced at a later time.  They have basically thrown themselves at the mercy of the court, and since they turned down a plea offer, a few months back, of one year in jail with five years probation, they obviously think they're going to get less than that.

According to Val Winter, the assistant state attorney, the sentencing for Milo and Goll's guilty plea has now been set for Tuesday, July 3, at 10AM at the courthouse on Whitehead St. in Key West.  He wasn't sure which courtroom it would be in, but it will be by Judge Wayne Miller.  We need to fill that courtroom up, so the judge sees that people are tired of these kinds of cases being thrown out with no just punishment.  Please try to be there; you don't have to say anything, unless you want to...just be there, wearing some green for unity.

Whether you can be there or not, please write a letter to the Honorable Judge Wayne Miller, asking him to not be lenient with these guys (it doesn't matter where you live).  Since the sentencing is just a little over one week away, you will need to fax the letter, made out to the judge, to the attention of Val Winter at 305-294-7707.  On the cover letter, put "letter to Judge Miller c/o Val Winter".  He will make sure the judge gets it in time, before the sentencing.  In all correspondence, you should refer to case #CFK06-0000506 (A & B).  A is for Goll and B is for Milo.

Judge Miller's info. for the letter:
The Honorable Wayne M. Miller

Talking about sea lice at Picnic Island. Is it not possible that they come from the dogs that are brought there? I've seem the island is so full of dogs and droppings that the children couldn't get off the boat to play.  Is this what you want?

[Port Pine Heights] Eugene Gordon Kyle III, the attorney's father not grand father named the streets.  Eugene, George, and Jim were the three brothers who did the developing.  The Kyle's also named streets for family members in subdivisions that they developed on Grassy Key and on Knights Key in Marathon. I grew up spending a lot of time with E.G. III, and while I really enjoyed my time with the family, the first thing that you learned about them was they were not shy about throwing the family's names around.  E.G. II was also the first or second president of the Lower Keys Chamber of Commerce.

WAIL is and has always been crap. Listen to the Boot Key station or 107.1 newer rock is better for you anyway. And Boot Key plays Free Bird at least as much as wail.

[And people wonder why I dislike organized religion so much] Bishop Michael Babin, for 25 years a leader of Genesis Ministries International in Oceanside, Calif., was charged (along with his son) with beating a golfer unconscious after accusing the man of stealing his ball at a local course. (Two years ago, Babin was nominated for a Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Award.)

[launch ramp, Port Pine Heights]  Sorry, there is no public launch ramp in Port Pine Heights.  There are two nearby.  The first in Koehn's subdivision.  From Key Deer Blvd, go to Big Pine Key St., turn east, go to Koehns Ave, turn north, go to the end of the Ave, don't get wet.  The second is in Eden Pines.  Key Deer to Palm Ave, turn west.  Go to Bittersweet Ave, turn south.  The ramp is on the west side of Bittersweet between Begonia and Geranium.  I hope that the street names are accurate, I got them from Mapquest.

[Clinton selling secrets to China] It’s remarkable the blind hate some people have toward Bill Clinton. They make up or exaggerate fairy tales just because he lied about fellatio. That’s the only thing he did wrong. Get over it. Look at his record or are you too blind to read? Would you care to compare Clinton's record to Bush's?

United States of Atzlan. Mexican's version of immigration. Video

[deputy that cut in line] The same thing happened to me about a month ago. I was in line to get a bite for breakfast and as I was about to move up to the ramp two deputies in one car pulled in front of me from the opposite direction and laughed about it. (I guess now I’m going to have to listen to how they only have 10 minutes to wolf down breakfast so I should be honored they picked me to cut off.)

[strange boat] The boat you were inquiring about is a new prototype boat for the Navy SEALS.  It's a follow on for the Mk-5 SOC.  An early name for it is the "Waverider".  It's been in and out of Truman Annex at the Navy piers the last few months.

[Bush’s war is the only war in modern history where he sub-contracted much of his violence.] And why not? Everybody else is in it for the mullah. Those who blindly believe we are there to help the people need a two week vacation there!

[Port Pine Heights name] Just be glad it's not called
Richmond Heights.

The true nature of some people was exposed over something totally irrelevant.  After a couple of cop cars were parked at a house in Eden Pines, the paranoia of you people really shined.  Anyone who knows that woman at that house knows her husband just died.  They were friends to many Deputies.  Not only have the cops been checking up on her, but since her husband's death that woman has been distributing some of his possessions to the cops that she has no use for, such as old guns.  So as you can see, this has nothing to do with video cameras, complaining about neighbors, or any of the other crap you people want to stir.  Maybe some of you should mind your own business and not be so nosey.

My buddy from Texas is a sub-contractor in Iraq, but no mercenary. He installs satellite dishes for Iraq's communications infrastructure. Mercenaries are hired as non-uniformed bodyguards. Hamid Kharzi, president of Afghanistan, has US mercenaries for his bodyguards, and he needs them!

[Clinton sold military secrets to the Chinese] I love old Republican fairy tales. Let me guess: the liberal media, the Congress, the Senate, the FBI, the CIA, the intelligence agencies, the lady down the street and everyone else were all part of the big ol’ cover up. Turn him into the FBI and become a hero. You must know more then them.

[Has anyone else has seen this vessel] It looks much like one based in San Diego. A stealth type Navy boat. Methinks they are out for a test drive. Interesting to say the least.

[History of Port Pine Heights] As I recall it was the Kyle Bros. who brought us the "North End", I also believe they were the boys who made Knight Key camp ground happen. I think they started it about 50 years ago. I am sure that if I am wrong someone will help me out. For many, many years there was no one on the north end of Big Pine Key. It was ....just there. Like some many things change has been going on for a long time way before W/D and Banks. I can tell you there was very little here when I was a kid. It was nice, but it’s nicer now. Enjoy our Island. It is special and some change was very much needed; of this I am sure.

If you want to know what you really look like, have a kid draw you. They will find what you're most self-conscious about and exploit it.

Thanks very much for posting your memories of Port Pine Heights.  I’ll try to contact the individual you mentioned to see if there is other info that can be shared.  I recall having a promotional map for the development which showed the layout and posted prices.  Madam Wilma decided that she wanted it more than I did.  The map and other pictures I had are now being recycled in a grove of thatch palm and dogwood somewhere east of Key Deer Blvd.  If anyone has a copy of that map that I might copy or purchase, or any pictures of anything taken in Port Pine Heights before or shortly after the canals were cut, or any other memories of the Heights, please let me know.  I’m Walt, 515-0204.  By the way, I think that the reason the name Port Pine Heights came to be used is because the name Short Deer Droppings just wasn’t sexy enough.

Please keep your cat at home.  It wants to go outside right after you fed it to look for something to kill and to breed more unwanted cats.

[To the Uninformed Writer of the Feral Cat Trapping Posts and Others] I am sorry, but you are wrong in your guess at my identity. You really have no idea where this opposition to your ignorance is coming from. It is neither professional or graduate. I am just an informed citizen combating false statements.  Derisiveness can be called for sometimes to get a point across when the intended recipient seems to be particularly ignorant and uninformed, and this is just a forum where people can speak freely. If you were to actually make these comments to the professionals involved in this project you would get a professional response that would be meant not to offend you and would have the sole objective of getting you to understand the reasoning behind the organizations actions; giving facts, data, and evidence to support them. But guess what...you are not so lucky here...this is by no means a "professional" debate...and I will make fun of your ignorance if I so please.

If your background in research is so great, then why o why would you go through all of the trouble to look up an article which supposedly supports you and then provide nothing but dates---no sources, authors, or publications---on which we are suppose to believe that these reports actually do exist. And then on top of that, you can't even understand that the one article was actually arguing against the point you were trying to make (the USFWS's use of bad science was discredited...meaning that accusation is false---yes, that is what you said). I do like the fact that you have offered to show me these articles, if only I give you my email address. I am not an idiot like some people, and would rather that my computer not be infected with a virus or have some creepy stalker after me. I do not see a reason why you could not just post a link to these articles, or at least some form of citation, if they really do exist. The fact is that there are articles supporting and condemning just about everything out there, and I would love to argue with you about the merits of your research if you would only give a few details instead of hiding behind the words "I've done my research" as a substitute for the actually research. I like the snootiness I sensed when you made the comment that your research came from professional biologists, but still gave no more information about where your "information" is actually coming from.

You are in no doubt entitled to your opinion on this trapping program. I am simply here to prevent you from posting false information and swaying the public to your views without a glance of the other side of the story. I am sorry if it makes you mad that there is someone out there telling everyone when the stuff you write is wrong.

When dealing with an extremely low population of an endangered species it would be stupid not to at least try and use the techniques of estimating population viability. Even if the techniques available presently are limited in their accuracy it is better than standing idly by and watching a species go extinct.

My point about you misusing the FWS was not that you were lacking a US in front of it. Did you think I was making sure you were talking about the United States Fish and Wildlife service and not some other country's fish and wildlife service? If so you were poorly mistaken. I was referring to the fact that the USFWS is not the ones trapping here on BPK. It has been contracted out to the USDA Wildlife Services.

You speak of other options that supersede the trapping of feral cats yet fail to provide any. That is a cowards way out. If you have a brilliant idea, then share it and try to get the people in charge to listen and see the benefits of your plan over the present course of action. The facts are that the rabbit population has stable habitat and yet it continues to dwindle. All evidence points to predation by feral cats as the leading cause of this continued decline. Controlling cats is the next logical step in the rescue efforts of this species unless you have any better ideas that you have failed to mention.

Thankfully, professionals who consider and understand the science and politics behind species protection are in charge of the taxpayers money and not wannabee biologists that have read a few questionable papers. It is perfectly fine to express when you feel the government is handling a situation wrong but it is also perfectly fine for me to tell you you are wrong. And thankfully this is a democracy and crazy people like you are a minority---my sincere thanks go out to the person who posted praise for my work on June 23. If I have yet to mature in the realities of science and the environment than you are a mere twinkle in your daddy's eye. You have yet to prove to me that you have any knowledge in the field. Again, perhaps there are better ways that you could be using this passion for wildlife than complaining on this blog site about a program that is based in sound science and will help the lower keys marsh rabbit.

To the other misinformed writer, neither panthers or black bears have ever been a part of the Florida keys ecosystem. Male panthers need a home range of 200 sq miles and there is just not enough land here in the keys to support a viable population, especially with current land development levels. It is the same story with the black bear. Yes it is true that opossums and raccoons are a natural part of this ecosystem but not at the current population levels. A lack of resources once kept populations in check but with a steady supply of food via human waste these animal populations have been able to grow out of control, endangering the lower keys marsh rabbit's survival. Extinction is forever.

Has anyone else has seen this vessel and may have info on it. It is pictured cursing in Big Spanish Channel, coming from the ocean into the gulf. It was approx. 80' - 100' in length.

[history of Port Pine Heights]  I don’t know any history, but I do remember about thirty years ago driving around and looking at houses wondering how anyone could live in that desolate place. It was mostly fill and no trees. It looked more like moonscape than landscape with a few mangroves thrown in. I now own a house there and the whole area is beautiful with many mature trees and landscaping.

Bush’s war is the only war in modern history where he sub-contracted much of his violence. The sub-contractors have no Uniform Code of Military Justice or government legal system to answer to. If they kill an Iraqi without good cause they are quietly shipped back to the States. They can do whatever they want and leave; and when our troops show up they are met with more hate and hostility due to the lawlessness of the mercenaries.

WAIL which is now SUN FM is really annoying. I don’t mind that they are playing long pre-recorded tapes of the music, but what I do mind is that whenever they want to air a commercial they just cut into the music and air the commercial. That’s real lousy when you’re grooving to a tune and they cut it off in the middle. They do it all the time. I had to stop listening to them.

Is there a boat ramp in Port Pine Heights for the residents to use?

The top 40 music these days don’t have any instruments to note. It is all girls singing and guys rapping. When is the last time you heard a piano or saxophone on the radio?

This is a little overdue. But better late than never. Key Deer Bar folks, thank you. My wife and I were actually thinking of leaving the keys when we stopped in just to check out the new place. You made us feel there is a little bit of the old keys left, thank you. And Cuz, having Barenjager in the cooler was just the strangest damn thing to find in Big Pine of all places. Thanks again for a nice drink in a nice place.

[All is not well in Hungary] How can it be when the Prime minister, himself a turncoat communist now a socialist, wants to give a communist with blood on his hands, Hungary's highest decoration The Grand Cross? This act is like giving the 'The Congressional Medal of Honor' to Jeffrey Dahmer.

The recipient would be Horn Gyula prime minister from '94 to 98'. How he got elected is a mystery to me. In 1956 the man killed unarmed protesters. When asked a bout it he said, "They were braking the law" Who's law, the Russians? There are eye witnesses to these murders. This man is a traitor, a communist, a collaborator, ass kisser of the Russians. He should not be decorated, but publicly hung with Gyurcsány Ferenc, the current prime minister right next to him.

All things dark and horrible

All things dark and horrible
All creatures that appall,
All things wild and terrible,
The Lord God made them all.

Each predatory mammal,
Each beast with sharpened fangs
Each deadly mutant virus,
Starvation's hunger pangs,
Each poison-loaded berry,
Each fungus that can kill,
He made the deadly nightshade,
The hedgehog's spiny quill.

Each little slimy creature,
Each vile unpleasant mite,
He made the black tarantula,
Put venom in its bite.

Each maggot-ridden carcass
Each parasitic worm,
He made the putrefaction,
He made what makes us squirm.

Malarial mosquitoes
And plague-infested rats
Are part of His creation,
Just like cute pussy cats.

All things dark and horrible
All creatures that appall,
All things wild and terrible,
The Lord God made them all.

[Finer points of the law] Benoit Derosiers, 51, who police said was so inebriated that he could barely speak when stopped for DUI and who had trouble standing, beat the charge in Provincial Court in Sudbury, Ontario when he proved to the judge a "legal necessity" for driving drunk: He had just attempted suicide and thus was forced to rush himself to the nearest hospital in order to get psychiatric care to head off another attempt.

An old friend told me he witnessed developers with machinery like bobcats/front end loaders clearing the dense hammock along the west side of Key Deer Blvd., (around 1965, I think he said). Today that is the area near the end of Key Deer Blvd. where the tourists come to watch the deer at dusk. Just think how beautiful that area would be now, if that had never been done.

Friday's intelligent post responding to Wednesday's idiotic post about "intrepid" cat trappers really made that first poster look like a fool. I realized immediately because of Wednesday's lack of understanding of the definition of intrepid that the rest of his post was going to be stupid." (Intrepid: audacious: invulnerable to fear or intimidation)

Has anyone noticed the Sea Lice at Picnic Island lately?

Ok, enquiring mind wants to know who the old snoop is on Coconut Dr?  Everyone on that road is young or middle age (but age is in the eye of the beholder).

Possums have been here as long as the deer, coons, rabbits, et cetra. I wonder when the USFWS is going to re-introduce panthers and black bears to the lower keys. The increasing numbers pf panthers in The Big Cypress has drastically reduced the raccoon population there

The least of Clinton's faults was lying about sex. That was just what his controlled media reported on to cover his real crimes like selling our military secrets to red china, he should not have been impeached, he should have been drug out into the street and publicly executed!

It's not that we dislike Jimmy Buffet, but we feel used. He used the Keys and all the mystic that goes with it to further his career. As soon as his kids were old enough to go to school he left the Keys for a better education for them. Why not stay here and help us improve our schools. All his songs sound alike.  I think Howard Livingston should break away from the image.

Would someone please tell me what in the hell is going on in Eden Pines?  From my understanding they have a home-owners association, so why are these neighbors fighting amongst themselves? At the end of a days work, who cares where who parks?  To quote the infamous Mr. Rodney King "Can't we all just get along?"  I for one would welcome a heavy police presence in my "hood".  If this rhetorical is against a little old lady living alone, well, I am sorry, but she needs to be left alone. However, it sounds as if they are young parents (i.e.  taking the kids to the bus stop).  Is this something you want your kids to remember you by?  My mother used to scream obscenities to the neighbors she thought were a threat to our well-being as she walked me to the bus stop.  Stand back, and stop and think who the better person is, then become that person.  Attitude is 90% of our lives.  You can choose to react, or walk away saying a prayer that the other "idiot" gets his.

Whoever called the rock-fest at Picnic Island on the 4th of July Wetstock was brilliant! Let's show everyone that Big Pine knows how to party!

Kudos to the deputy that cut in line from the opposite direction at McDonalds in Marathon today. That's the way to show us who is boss--what an asshole.

I met an older woman at the Deer last night. She wasn't bad for 62.  We drank and bullshat a bit, then she asked if I had ever had the 'sportsman's double', a mother and daughter three-some? I said no. We drank a bit more, then she says that tonight was my lucky night. I went back to her place. She put the hall light on and shouted upstairs: "Mom you still awake?

[History of Port Pine Heights]  I was told by my divorce attorney, Eugene Kyle, that the two end streets (Joyce and Donna) where named by his grandfather for his wife and girlfriend. I hope this helps.

Hopefully, the individual responding to my remarks regarding the feral cat trapping project here on BPK is just a young, overly defensive graduate student. It would be deplorable to learn that a professional would react in such a derisive manner. And I'm certainly not going to bore my neighbors with a debate about who has the background and credentials to address this issue. You might be surprised at the numbers of people in our community who are highly educated and have an extensive background in research.

I tend to agree that a good deal of information I presented appeared "ill-informed...ignorant...or stupid," but since the source of that information is from professional biologists and environmental experts/organizations, you'll have to discuss that with them.  Any citizen should have the right to voice opinions on a matter they find meaningful, and to be concerned about the use of research methods, such as population viability analysis, which many researchers in the field of biology find highly questionable, if not totally worthless, and upon which this trapping program is largely based.

If you would like to leave your email address, I will be happy to send you the references to the research articles and reviews that I referenced in my remarks; although I'm sure they're readily available in the library of any school teaching the biological sciences. I apologize for the use of the acronym FWS which should have read USFWS, who formally conceded that they were using flawed science in assessing endangered species. I'd be happy to send you that reference as well, which, by the way, was divulged by a USFWS employee who was fired and later rehired under whistleblower protection.

As I have mentioned in previous comments, protecting an endangered species is of critical concern.  However, when there are options that supersede the trapping, relocation and/or extermination of other living creatures, including our native wildlife and house pets, they are worthy of consideration, especially when they involve fairly large sums of taxpayer monies. I am hopeful that as you mature into the realities of science and the environment you will develop some.

If everyone can be so sure that the government is wrong to trap animals on BPK or going to Iraq or most anything else, then how can everyone be sure that the government is correct about global warming? More and more scientists are changing their minds about man causing it. I just read that each mile of mandated increase in café standards cause 700 increased deaths in auto occupants, almost as many as killed in Iraq each year. What can the government do right?

During the summer there are about 25 to 30 vendors at the flea market. We have just had a few rainy weekends in a row and many vendors do not show up to watch their things get wet. Come by on a sunny day and you will find us there.  In October the other 200 vendors start returning.

[liberal media rant] On the other side. The conservative media rant always brings up Clinton who’s only fault was that he lied about having sex.

I’m excited about the Stray Dogs rocking Picnic Island. We need a good party.

To the lady across the street from Nothing Better to Do:
First, I apologize for bringing this to the outside world. But, I will not "hide behind my windows" and allow this woman's public accusations go unanswered.
I believe the cameras tell who the paranoid person really is.
I believe you have harassed more than my family for 10+ years.
I believe your letter is quite threatening (with all the same rhetoric that you have followed me to the bus stop shouting, and blurted from your porch or from the street) and wonder why your email address went unpublished.
I believe you know less about me than I had given you credit for because of the inaccuracies in your posting.
I believe I can show the harassment you have showered upon us: 32+ calls to Code Enforcement for nonsense.
I know my household has had no altercations with the law. Can you say the same?
My door is always open to the police because I have had to call them often enough due to your harassment and threats.
My family lives here with me. How do you define abandoned? (and you should leave them alone!)
p.s. Apparently someone across the street reads this site also!

Now that Lucky's Landing isn't lucky any more.   (The owner deliberately destroyed at least one single women’s home after Wilma. In order to advance this disaster the government calls progress).   We need to know who voted for it and make sure we vote them out in their next election.   And the poster who said we need to stop ranting on this website and get involved is right.

[To the Uninformed Writer of the Feral Cat Trapping Post] Everything you have said is either false or ill-informed. First of all the FWS is not involved with the trapping at all. It is actually contracted out to the USDA Wildlife Services Department. The USDA Wildlife Services have already had extremely successful programs here in the Keys eliminating exotic and invasive species like the black rat and the Gambian pouch rat that pose threats to the native species and ecosystems of the keys. They are a respectable agency with professional trappers as well as biologists dedicated to deciding the best course of action for the ecosystems they work to restore.

Cats have been successfully removed from endangered lower keys marsh rabbit habitat. Yes, it is true that the trapping has caught raccoons, opossums, and turtles as well as other wildlife, but all were released. The raccoons are humanely tagged for an ongoing investigation into their effects on rabbit populations, but otherwise all wildlife is released without harm; no eradication, no containment centers, and no disappearances of wildlife.

All of this action has come as the result of extensive research. Biologists for the National Key Deer Refuge as well as other organizations have concluded that the biggest major threat to the marsh rabbit's survival at this point is predation by overpopulated raccoons and feral cats. But even with this research in hand and the permission to begin trapping, the agencies still conducted sand track plot surveys for a week in order to determine the areas of high concentration of predators within rabbit habitat. Only then was trapping started.

Your sense of fire ecology and fire's importance to many ecosystems is misconstrued to say the least. It appears that you have had no higher education in the field, and hence have written extremely ignorant statements. Without fire this entire island will one day become, through forest succession, a hardwood hammock. A variety of organisms have evolved to live in certain types of habitat that would no longer exist. Fire is important to the maintenance of the diversity within nature seen in any healthy ecosystem. For further information consult anyone with any knowledge in biology, forestry, or similar fields.

As for the statement you made about a report on the USFWS reliance on bad science, you quite frankly made your self look very stupid. You said, and I quote "In January, 2005, a report explained how the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's long-standing reliance on bad science was formally discredited, and discusses FWS's lack of response." If you were smart you would realize that this means that the idea that the USFWS uses bad science was discredited....so it is not true that the USFWS uses bad science. Ouch....too bad, they actually do use good science to do science, a field you seem to know little about.

The other evidence concerning made up and invented data to support actions by the USFWS on BPK are unsubstantiated, and if you need help with that word it means not backed by evidence. It never happened. And again, ruthless exterminations have never taken place. The elimination of invasive rats by poisonings is as close as the truth gets to your sad "Bambi" story killings, but that was done in order to preserve and protect our abundant native species.

Extinction is forever. It would be very nice to see the kind of passion you have for saving and respecting every creature on God's good earth applied toward saving a species that really needs it. There are about 300 lower keys marsh rabbits left in the world, and they are all right here in our backyards. If we do not act now they will be gone forever. Habitat loss is clearly no longer the culprit, since the refuge owns substantial tracts of land and yet the population of rabbits is still declining. The reduction of predation by raccoons and feral cats is the next logical step in the attempt to rescue the marsh rabbit from extinction. Like you, I love all animals great and small with a passion, yet I realize that because of humans raccoons are drastically overpopulated on BPK and feral cats freely roam in rabbit habitat. Since we are the ones responsible for these negative effects on rabbits we have a responsibility to correct it to save the rabbits. Yes the term “experts” may at times seem like a guise, but the people of the USFWS and other organizations working to save the rabbits have trained their whole lives in this field and are dedicated to their jobs. You are noble in character to have such a deep concern about every animal on BPK. But when you think about the raccoons and the cats I beg you to also think of the rabbits. I think they deserve a chance too.

[Iguana knocks out electricity to the lower Keys] I vote for Lucky the iguana!

[nosey neighbor] In response to the remarks about marked units of the MCSO being on Coconut Palm in Eden Pines. Why don't you say what you are implying? And be sure to identify yourself. If you have a gripe call Sheriff Roth. I am sure he would like to hear it. What you’re not getting is that any off-duty cop can go and do what they want and use the car off-duty. Nosey people like you don't have the balls to do anything up straight. You hide behind sites like this to vent your unhappy existence. Back off, you know that you’re neighbor died unexpectedly and he was a long time friend of many people in the MCSO. What neighborly thing have you done to assist the heart-broken family of this wonderful man? Yea, I know the answer. Just coming on this site causes more heartache to the family .Get a life.

Injade will be back at the Looe Key Tiki Bar tomorrow, Saturday night, so come on out and party with us!

[Things I like about the keys]
1. Wild peacocks, of course I think the good lord screwed them because they look beautiful but he gave them that horrible shrill of a call. They remind me of Fran Drescher, the Nanny.
2. The great feral cat roundup caught more Possums and Tortoises then cats. (snicker)
3. There seems to be a "Stud" Iguana living in Eden Pines with all the newborns running around. I can see all of the other Iguanas bowing and telling him "He's the lizard" when he walks by.
4. $1 Draft beers at happy hour makes me happy.
5. Kudos to all of the janitors that keep our world clean and all of our hair stylists that keep us looking good.
Non-feral Cats

In response to yesterday's long-winded tome regarding feral cat trapping, I'm glad that USF&W is eradicating opossums, if indeed they did catch some down here. They have no place in nature below the 7 Mile Bridge. As for eradicating raccoons in marsh rabbit habitat, if that's what it takes to save the Lower Keys marsh rabbit, then it should be done.  P.S. If people hadn't messed up the equation, there would be no need to remove rabbit killers. Keep your cat indoors.

[Men need to reclaim self-respect, courage and control over their women]  Dude (and I know a woman didn’t write this), slavery has been illegal in this country for over 140 years. Unless I missed something, you can no longer own a woman. Get over your control issues and you’ll be a lot happier. But, if you really do like that kind of lifestyle, there a number of countries where this mentality is nurtured. Saudi Arabia and Iran come to mind. Have fun, but stay out of the sun and don’t let anyone know if you drink alcohol. Slave prince  for sale

[Hungarian and the bands have their own websites?] Damn, just skip over them and quit bitching, nobody said you have to read them.

Here’s to the person who lives across from me. My mother is hiding nothing behind our windows.  If you watch the videos a little more you will see me and my sister walk into our house that you say we abandoned. Have you ever contributed to our community? My mother has with AYSO and Little League and has been active in all of our schooling and activities.  Leave us alone!

[81 The Hungarian] Five days went by before Uncle George returned. Dad thought that he was going to get caught for sure. His luck held out and he was able to bring out his daughter Georgia, and wife Ilona. They thought that they were already abandoned and the first time Uncle George told his wife that it was time to make tracks, Ilona refused to go. She didn't have to be asked twice this time. Uncle George told us of the thousands of arbitrary arrests and deportations to Siberia. There were many discussions of communist Kangaroo Courts handing down life sentences and death sentences that were carried out within forty-eight hours. The Hungarian

[Your Honor, My client is an idiot] Elevator vandals should do their work from the outside, not as two men in their early 20s did when they entered the elevator at the Lillestroem Train Station near Oslo, Norway and then repeatedly kicked the door. The men essentially captured themselves when the damage jammed the motor, locked down the elevator and sounded an alarm, summoning the police.

Nosey lady across the street with nothing else to do but hold onto a longtime vendetta. Do you realize that people use cameras to protect themselves?  A lot of your neighbors have cameras (they want to make sure the lady in the house across the street doesn't come on their property).  I know you realize that the lady across the street does not need this from you.  What kind of person are you?   I feel so sorry for you.  I never see any cars parked at your house (well that is unless you’re away and then you have quit the party house).  You are jealous because the lady across the street has friends and family around her constantly. She is not a lonely old lady like you've become.  Also, for the record, if the young lady hits you when she "runs the stop sign" you shouldn't be worried about how our cop friends are going to write up the report; you should be worried that your karma caught up with you and nobody will be around to help you. We all wonder who will be there when we need them. I feel very sorry for you being all alone.  Make peace with yourself and your neighbors. You never know who you may need one day. If you would like, I could park on that pretty grass out front of your house so it looks like you have friends.

When you are stiff and sore from sitting at your computer for long periods, it's best if you vary your position and posture periodically.  We know we shouldn't sit for too long without taking a break to stretch and move around, but we forget, and then pay for it at the end of the day. In order to prevent chronic back and neck pain, here are several excellent stretches that are suggested to relieve the stress.

[Need to control women] It sounds like you have a problem with your wife/girlfriend, pal. Why don't you go join your Taliban friends over in the third world where those kinds of views are appreciated? This country moved past that type of twisted thinking some time ago.

Does anyone have any memories or sources of information about the history of Port Pine Heights , especially about  how and when it was developed.  I'm very interested in hearing about personal memories about the area prior to and during its development.  I'm trying to put together a history of the north end of BPK, and I'm anxious to communicate with anyone with info. (Ed: If the writer would collect and organize the info and stories we'll add them to our History Pages for all sot see.)

Summertime and the living is easy. Today is the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

It’s becoming clearer. We have no intention of leaving Iraq. Sure the majority of our forces will leave, but as the outgoing commander testified to Congress last week we are there to protect our interests (oil). If we weren’t intending to stay there why are we building the largest embassy in the world in Baghdad? I suspect history will show that we invaded Iraq with the intention of establishing a foothold in the Mideast. After all Bush and Chaney are both oil men.

To the person with nothing better to do than to dwell on what is happening across the street from her house. Police officers are allowed to drive their vehicles when they are off duty.  You are a very paranoid person.  What is it that you are hiding behind your own windows?  Are you worried the police may find out something they shouldn't about you?  Worry about yourself, your family and your children.  Where are they?  Do you even know?  Don't be jealous because the lady across the street has friends and you sit in your house lonely and sad while your whole family has abandoned you.  The only thing you have to look forward to everyday is whether or not someone has commented on what you wrote.  You need to go contribute to your community…go get a life.  Write your daughters a letter and leave the police alone, leave the lady across the street alone, and let it go. Nobody wants to read what you have to say anymore. P.S. Kharma!

[Here’s something you don’t see every day] Rival factions of nuns brawled, along with priests, in an Old Calendarist convent in Avdellero, Cyprus, leaving a church floor covered with blood. One faction said that a recently deceased bishop's will gave them control of the convent, but Mother Superior Markella and her nuns had been living there for decades and feared removal.

[Dislike Jimmy Buffet] The only musician that likes Buffet is Howard Livingston

I have to agree with the posting saying: Why don't the Hungarian and the bands have their own websites?  Ed, can you add a new page similar to the Business Directory or Classifieds for them?  That Hungarian was funny for about a week but is really getting annoying.  What's next?  Maybe a daily posting from "The Italian", "The French Man", "The Jew", "The Greek" or "The Haitian"?

I think we should erect a monument to Bush in Washington DC after we are lucky enough to be rid of him.  Kind of like the Washington Monument, but make it a giant coffin with a map of Iraq.  Underneath put a sign saying: "My Ignorance and arrogance cost thousands of soldiers their lives" Let's take a Florida Keys Census asking who the worst President in history was.  I bet it comes back over 90% saying him.  As for the other 10%, let's face it, 10% of the people in the world are just stupid.

We don't need new ideas.  What we need is to implement rational ones that have been self-evident for millennia.  Men need to reclaim self-respect, courage and control over their women.  That would be a good start.  With the family nucleus buttressed, society can and would be secured.  If we continue to rot from within, there is no salvation to be had, tactical or otherwise.  I know that's easier said than done but it's the sine qua non for a new world to emerge that can withstand the onslaught of barbarian self-righteousness.  And yes, I know, that's not the answer we want to hear.

Here's a good site to check gas prices anywhere is USA.

FWS has begun trapping feral cats on Big Pine. As one writer commented, they have managed to capture four raccoons, two possums and one turtle.  Although it has not been published, FWS is eradicating all wildlife that it traps, except perhaps the turtles. The raccoons are being sent off to a containment center and the possums have disappeared. All of this is being done with absolutely no research support and no substantiation, but  because FWS will do what they want to do. It's reminiscent of the "circle burn" that was done on BPK that killed all the trapped wildlife caught in the burn area as well as deforesting the area. The only substantial data speaking to the demise of marsh rabbits relates to the destruction of habitat. So FWS has destroyed a significant amount of habitat which may never reseed to provide new native habitat which is needed to support new marsh rabbit warrens.

They managed to do this in Yellowstone National Park, destroying the natural habitat, which was unable to recover, in order to protect the elk, which disappeared because their habitat was destroyed. The use of flawed and distorted data to support these activities has been going on for years. In January, 2005, a report explained how the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's long-standing reliance on bad science was formally discredited, and discusses FWS's lack of response.

In March, 2005, FWS formally conceded that it has been using flawed science in assessing  habitat and population of endangered species. They distorted or invented data to support their activities. And worse yet, on BPK they have hired an individual to do the trapping that was formerly in charge of the ruthless extermination of animals for Broward County. It can't get much more unconscionable than this!  Not everyone is able to respect the life of another living creature, but to execute animals (as, by the way, FWS has been doing quietly in the Upper Keys for a while now) whether cat, raccoon, or possum, is unacceptable. FWS needs to be made accountable for their behavior, which they have, thus far, smugly refused to do, hiding behind the guise that they are the "experts." Given their long history of proven scientific dishonesty, it is impossible to credit any expertise on their part.

What evidence that is available suggests that this whole debacle was initiated by a graduate student for her dissertation research. A review of that document revealed gross generalizations and unsubstantiated, conflicting findings. In fact, if you were  to Google "research on Lower Keys marsh rabbits" you will find a couple of sites featuring this person who is staring importantly off into the distance through a pair of binoculars, accompanied by a copy of her vita. She is now a professor at Eckerd College (wherever that is). Now it seems that droves of Texas A&M students are using this flawed data as the basis for master's theses. It's a shame that people will climb their career ladders over the bodies of helpless animals and questionable ethics.

The Marathon and Big Pine Free Press included in the Key West Citizen this morning contained an article about the trapping. FWS claimed that they are posting the trapping areas. If anyone sees any of these notifications, please post it on the Telegraph as my information indicates that they are keeping this strictly secret so that they remain unaccountable. FWS also stated that a report would be published on the results of this program. If you expect honesty and accuracy, don't hold your breath! The most accurate predictor of future behavior is past behavior.

[Who can say there is something inherently wrong with being homeless?]
So you love bums eh? Well, buddy, you take those mental Darwin's and stick them in your bed, feed then your food, sex them with your females, then pray to them.  I'd send them all to Iraq.

[Whenever the US pulls out of Iraq, it will be a sad day for the US if the immigration policy…] Whoever wrote this has my vote! You sure have your head out of your butt and know what is going down. If nothing is done and Hillary the Horrible gets into office, I am moving to Fosterland ASAP!

[How did peasants bury their dead in winter] My granddad told us when they were growing up in upstate NY in farm country part of the Harvest Moon celebration preparations was to pre-dig graves for the upcoming winter in the church cemetery before the ground froze. They would use the empty graves as crude root cellars to store crops until they were needed to lay someone to rest. Which is probably why there is always a buffet at the wake, you had to empty the food out before you could bury someone.

I don’t care if the cops are parked at the house on Coconut Palm, I just hope they take time to tell that wreck less young lady that lives there to slow down and stop blowing through stop signs in the neighborhood. She has almost hit me twice. And when she does cause an accident (and she will), it will be interesting to see how her family/housemates or their friends on the force write up the report!

It’s always amazed me how the family members of Police (children and spouses) can be so un-intimidated by the law. Oh, yeah, never mind, I remember now!

5. Buffet has talent
6. Buffet walks upright
7. Buffet uses deodorant
8. Buffet has teeth

[property tax reform] Any time anyone in our governments uses the work "reform", you can bet your bippy they are out for more of your hard earned money.  Vote smarter next time.

[dislike Jimmy Buffet]  I can only call it jealousy of his success, since his music is so well loved by so many people!  Me, included!

I was at that flea market place and there were only 5 people and the dollar junk lady selling. When do all the sellers come back?

[Keys Iguanas Fight Back] In a show of solidarity for all the Keys wildlife a Key West Iguana, called Lucky by his friends, demonstrates how they can fight back against the recent harassment and carnage against his kind throughout the Keys.

From the KW Citizen: A wayward iguana [Lucky] initiated an electrical transmission line outage about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday while walking on a transformer at the Big Pine Key Electrical Substation. The tie-line outage affected all 27,000 Keys Energy Services customers. "He had plopped himself on there," Keys Energy spokesman Julio Barroso said. "It's very common with us. If it's not a lizard, it's a bird."

Barroso said the animal survived the incident, although it is missing part of its tail. "He or she is lucky — he could have fried," he said. The tie line was re-energized at 12:47 p.m., with more than 25,000 customers energized by 1 p.m. All affected Keys Energy customers were re-energized by 1:46 p.m.

In an exclusive interview, Lucky said, "I am doing this interview to educate the Humans that this was not an accident, as suggested by the one called Barroso. This is just the beginning of a campaign, by local wildlife, to show that we aren't going to just sit back and watch as one species attempts to control what is our home too." Stay tuned.

Sloan Bashinsky
has left the Keys. He sure made a big splash in his brief time here; from running for county Commissioner to hearing voices to publishing his own blogs. It’s too bad when true characters like him leave the Keys.

I love the "liberal media" rant.  There’s always a boogieman to some people.  And I don’t mean K.C. of the Sunshine band.

[Stupid tourist questions]
Why is the Southern Most Point--dull?
I saw a wild crocodile at the Blue Hole. Are they tame?
Do I get my money back for the trip if sunset is cancelled?
Is it true you can't get a DUI in the KEYS?
Are dogs allowed in the bars here?
How come there are so many abandon and boarded up houses in the Keys?
Why are all the police officers in the Keys are overweight?
Where can I buy one of those cool Mexican vests and a head band?
Does drinking lots of Rum really keep you from getting sun burned?
Why is the bike path only one way?
Are clothing optional places clean enough for my child?
Why aren't there any good daytime TV shows in the Keys?
Is it against the law to ware underwear in the Keys?
Is Atlantic Shores a five star restaurant?
Any place in Key West that I'll need Black Tie?
Can I rent a boat to do to Cuber?                        Stupid Tourist Questions

I used to get charley-horses as a teen. I found as soon as I felt a charley-horse arriving to my calf muscle, that by immediately extending the affected leg, it would stop—like right-now!

Only tourists like Buffet. Locals are sick of that kind of music.

[The Stray Dogs Rock Picnic Island] Is Flip-Flop Bob going to sing?

[Why do the local musicians around here dislike Jimmy Buffet]  It is not the musicians, it is the local audiences. MM24 Band plays Buffet but they attract their own crowd, not normally found in the bars.

I like tourists, but I don’t like part-time residents and especially time share residents. They act like they live here and think they’re locals. They are, in fact, clueless as to what it’s like to really live here.

Guess what folks? Lucky's Landing is going to look just like that piece of high density condo excrement that they built on Cudjoe Key. I am sure it will be sold to our lovely New Yorkers who love crap like that (it's so trendy). Just be glad the developers are not building 30 story monoliths there. But they are coming. Money talks and most politicians are easily bought

Even though some of his old songs might be fun to listen to, I don’t like Jimmy Buffett the man.

I also miss the turd critter. Please bring him back!

[80 The Hungarian] The previous morning, our first morning in Krems, two young girls came in during breakfast. They were very pretty.  I thought that I was seeing double. My eyes were fine, Erika and Grechen were identical twins, wearing identical ethnic dress. Their straw blond hair was worn in braids, and their blue eyes were like mountain lakes reflecting the clear blue sky. I think I fell in love with both of them.

Wednesday June 20, 2007

Congratulations to Joel and Ashley on the birth of their son Trey Christopher, arriving June 19, 2007, 6 lbs 15 oz. Your family is so very proud of the new addition to the family.

[property tax reform] Keep your homestead exemption. It's not worth giving it up.

At 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday June 20th there will be a public hearing on a re-zoning request. This re-zoning is for a parcel of land on Little Torch Key. This is now the site of Lucky's Landing Mobile Home Park.  The owner/developer is requesting a zoning change from URM TO UR. This would allow for Large vacation rental condominiums to be built in the predominantly single family home area of the Lower Keys. If you are opposed to this kind of development, plan to attend the BOCC meeting Wed. afternoon at the Marathon Gov. Center.

Sheriff Rick Roth is just as much a victim of Tom Willi as the rest of us.  Because of Willi's poor management, Roth had to cut the School Resource Officers, several Road Patrol positions, and numerous other expenses within his department that aided in serving this community.  Now, this community isn't getting the service it needs and deserves because of it.  If you familiarize yourself with the county structure, you'll see it isn't up to the Sheriff to pursue Willi's fumbles.  It's up to you, the taxpayers, to get off your asses and demand Willi be fired.  Ranting about it on this web-site does you no good.

[The Stray Dogs Rock Picnic Island] The last time they played Picnic Is they called it Wetstock.

If KW can get rid of their city manager why can’t the County? Down with crummy managers!

If anyone out there uses Microsoft Outlook 2003 could you tell me how to remove the envelope icons from my taskbar when I open a lot of emails? My taskbar tray fills with icons of an envelope, not allowing me to see the regular programs I have already opened. I have to scroll in my taskbar to get to those programs and it is a pain. It just started doing that a few days ago. I can’t seem to find the option to rid myself of that plague.

The United States is now actually arming the Sunni insurgents in Iraq who were fighting us. In exchange, they have given their word they will only fight al-Qaeda. It's a plan so crazy, it just might be crazy!

[How did peasants bury their dead in winter]. Yes, indeed, grave digging in the winter was a chore, and pick and shovel had to be employed. The frozen ground was only about 18" in a normal winter further north it maybe more. If it was a real hard winter, they’d build a fire on the gravesite. By daylight it was easy to dig. Now days, they use a backhoe.

I just came back from shopping in Key West and was amazed how nice it can be without all the Snowbirds and crowds. Of course that will go as soon as all the condos are built.  AHRRrrraahhha!

Why do the local musicians around here dislike Jimmy Buffet so much? Most of them even refuse to play a song by him.  What’s up with that?

I understand there is a web site for intellectuals somewhere in the Keys. Damn if I can find it!

I never knew that there is an Eden Pines Property Owners' Assn!  I'll be joining.

[Cop cars parked on Coconut Palm daily] I don't know the answer to your question, but if you drive by slowly you will see a half dozen cameras pointed at the house across the street. Guess they go over to watch videos.

The FWC contacted us about our Sugarloaf alligator picture and confirmed that it is actually a protected American crocodile. He said there has never been a crocodile attack on a human in Florida. This one is approximately 6 feet in length. They grow to around 16 feet. We all swim, boat, and fish right here--I hope this croc doesn't know he can gain eternal fame as the first human attacker. If he does, I hope he gains it on the idiots who trash the pavilion for fun. Just kidding, sort of.

Who ever was ranting about Sheriff Roth arresting Tom Willi, you have it wrong. The State attorney is the entity to contact. The Sheriff’s office responds to their directives.

I thought you might like an update on how the intrepid cat trappers of the Fish & Wildlife Service are doing at taxpayer expense. The first weekend's trapping results were 4 raccoons, 3 opossums, and one tortoise.  How many cats did they catch?  Zero!  That's right, not a single cat was trapped in the project FWS says will solve a "serious predator problem".

My Roof was on my house after Wilma.  Power was out, but the generator sure kept our whole house with power until it came back on a week later.

[global warming, taxation, drought, etc]  There’s a hysterical kafuffle about global warming. Some say it’s man caused, some say it’s natural change, some say we can stop it, some say “can’t be done”.  It looks like a rapid rise in the CO2 in the atmosphere began in the mid 1700s.  Some blame this CO2 rise as being the “cause” of global warming.  They argue that human’s use of carbon fuels will cause the demise of our specie.  Let’s look at a different view.  The mid 1700s saw the beginning of an incredible rise in the human population of the earth.  When the population stats are graphed the rise is virtually vertical.  Birth rates soared, infant death dramatically declined, diseases were conquered, and human longevity roared ahead.  The population of virtually every nation ran off the charts.  Folks, we are up to our hips in us.  Maybe, just maybe, the reason that the CO2 has spiked is that there are just too many humans exhaling CO2.

So what?  Well, we’ve got too little petroleum,  too little water, not enough room in our cities, too many cars, not enough green space, not enough food to feed the world, etc. etc. In short, we’ve got too many “not enough’s” and too many “too much’s”.  Our specie seems to have a genetic need to expand, to burgeon.  We have made growth and development sacred concepts.  Growth and development are an absolute cornerstone of our economy.  As we grow our rate of growth explodes.  It’s called geometric progression.

Developers rule!

I don’t think it can be cured, but I do think it can be slowed.  A start would be to stop federal tax breaks for parents of more than one child.  I believe that existing families should be exempt, but only newly born first born children should trigger any tax breaks.  If you choose to have more children, you’re on your own, no tax breaks.  Couples who elect not to have children should receive tax relief.  Local and state governments should enact and enforce growth laws that would inventory existing residential units, water supplies, utility services, and infrastructure in each community.  The new laws should prohibit addition of any new residential units beyond existing carrying capacity.  Cap population and pollution is capped.  Cap population and fossil fuel use is capped.

To quote Pogo “I have seen the enemy and it is us”.

[To the folks looking for various animal feed] Why don't you try the pet shop in the W/D plaza.  They have ordered everything I need. No reason to hike it up to the mainland.  As they say, shop local!

It was with great dread that I turned off US 1 today onto Key Deer because I was not looking forward to seeing the two dead kitties that were in the road by the entrance to Winn Dixie in the early AM when I went to work.  I would like to thank whomever, for the unenviable job of cleaning up the carcasses.  Had they still been there I was going to rip a new one for the feds who are so eager to catch and kill.  I guess their jobs were made a little easier.

The flea market is open all year. We are open every Saturday and Sunday from 8 am until 2 pm. The produce guy was still there this week and will probably be there most of June. Many local vendors do stay open year around.

Who can say there is something inherently wrong with being homeless? Was not Jesus homeless, for example? And his disciples? Who can say God does not send homeless people into the Keys, and all the way down to Key West, because that is the best place for them to be, because they are not at risk to freezing to death in the winter? Who is to say, but for the grace of God, anyone could not end up being homeless, including Jimmy Weekly and Mayor Morgan McPherson? Including any straight or gay resident of Key West, without any warning whatsoever? It happened to me, a Vanderbilt University graduate, with a J.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law, and a L.L.M. Tax Law degree from the same law school. It can happen to anybody… www.goodmorningkeywest.com

Whenever the US pulls out of Iraq, it will be a sad day for the US if the immigration policy has not changed. Right now those suckers are praying for that five times a day. And everyone of them that even shined a GI's boots will want to come to the land of the big PX and get free everything. There will be little Baghdads all over the US like there are little Saigons now. There will be more carpet shops than a mule can crap. The Pakistanis will move on to something better and turn the 7-11's over to Iraqis. The Nigerian and sheiks will turn their cabs over to Iraqis and there will be a Mosque in your neighborhood that will become a podium to spread hate against the infidel Americans.

The current immigration bill that is in congress right now, if it passes, and the democrats want it to, will be a windfall for the illegals. It will be equal to amnesty that will encourage more to come. The Hispanics are already rubbing their palms together, how they will take back California, Arizona, and New Mexico without a shot being fired. This is no joke just look at these states’ governments. They are stuffed full of Hispanics. If Sarkozy of France can deport 3 million illegals, why can't the US? Time to activate 'Operation Wetback'!

As you get older there are a few important things to remember.  Never trust a fart, never pass up a bathroom and never waste a woody,  The most important of all is to remember to never, ever, take your sleeping pill and your laxative at the same time!

[79 The Hungarian] The bus ride to Gratz was beautiful. The seats were comfortable and you could lean back, and they were warm and comfortable. The only draw back was that we didn't see anything because it was dark outside. The ride was only ninety miles and it was over very fast. The buses pulled into a complex of buildings and stopped. We were told to get off the buses. As we got off I noticed that the buses were surrounded by a phalanx of soldiers in field grey uniforms blocking all other ways except to the entrance of this one building. I had the same feeling as Jews must have had on arrival to Auschwitz or Buchenwald; a kind of uneasiness on the inside. There was no reason for worry, a pillow, a blanket, and an army cot, waited for everyone inside. I don't remember any more from the rest of the evening because as soon as my head hit the pillow I was asleep. The Hungarian

I am pleased to announce that a version of the Moondogs will be playing on the 4th of July. We will call it The Stray Dogs Rock Picnic Island with some of the Keys’ finest rockers including Keyscat Kenny on bass along with John, Bob, and others. Chad Allen of Coconut Thunder will also be doing some tunes. It's going to be a blast! I want to remind all boaters to have their safety gear including flares, fire extinguishers and life jackets. I'm sure the Marine Patrol will be there to enjoy the show as well. Let's all have a safe and happy Fourth of July.

For dependability after a hurricane, definitely go with satellite.  Once the power goes out the cable is out, but if you have a generator you can have satellite.  After having both for many years I am sticking with the satellite.  The couple of minutes at a time that I might loose my signal during even the most violent storm is much better than the days at a time that the cable goes out when there is no power.

p.s. To insure satellite after a hurricane have a spare dish or take it down for the storm itself.

The large red mushroom with the white polka dots the Hungarian described yesterday (#77) was the Magic Mushroom of legend (amanita muscaria). There is no finer psycadelic drug in the world.

How do peasants bury their dead (see: I’m being influenced by Tales From the Old Country guy and the Old Country guy himself, The Hungarian) in the winter in the old days? Did they use a pick to dig through the three feet of frozen ground on their way to the required 6 feet?

Say hello to the unemployable. And, I'm sure that not one of them has the foggiest idea why they're unemployed.

[Cable vs Satellite] Our home is on a full service generator.  We lost cable along with electricity during the hurricanes two summers ago.  The electricity was restored after 2-3 days, but the cable took a week plus.  We have since switched to satellite.  We're not anxious to find out, but we'll keep you posted.

Last week's waterspout.

[Not ready for prime time] Lolita Bullock turned herself in to sheriff's deputies in Jacksonville, N.C. confessing to robbing a Bank of America a week earlier. She then immediately requested the "crimestoppers" reward money, which (since she was then under arrest) she asked be given to her friend who accompanied her.

I'm gonna fook hing miss her.

The property tax reform is just a way to get us to give up our Save Our Homes 3% protection. The politicians and liberal media have hated us having control over our property taxes. Sure you will save at first, but we all know that without the caps, in a couple of years, we will be paying more.

Thanks, but no thanks. I will keep my Save Our Homes amendment, but I will vote yes at the polls because it does cut 7billion dollars from the bloated, corrupt and spoiled school system.

[What is better during a hurricane satellite or cable] For starters, where I live, the cable company gets it's feed from...satellite.  I got a dish, every time a pigeon flies over it I lose the signal (OK, it's not that bad.) I do, however, lose signal when the rain clouds are dense enough to block the signal in the southern skies. You have a better chance of your sat dish working and getting a signal with your generator power because cable requires electricity at all its facilities in the chain to give you a feed.

A word of caution, don't try to run your plasma or flat panel on your generator as the electricity from them is "not flat" or "clean" so I am told. Generator spikes or surges and could damage your set. A surge protector between the TV and the generator could help, but I ain't gambling. I keep a small 13" standard TV for use with my generator.  Hope this helps

[Bob Barker retires] It looks like Rosie O'Donnell is going to be taking over the Dyke is Right, oh excuse me I meant The Price is Right.

It looks like this property tax revamp is just another Republican method of screwing the little guy.  It reminds me of what Regan did to the IRA system before his first inauguration party was even over. He said it was going to make things better for us.  They are after that pesky 3% cap on any yearly property tax increase on homesteaded property--that being your house.

Naval Air Station, Key West, Fla. - Navy carrier-based, jet fighter aircraft will be conducting Field Landing Carrier Practice (FCLP), at NAS Key West Boca Chica Field on Wednesday and Thursday nights, June 20-21. Training will be conducted from sunset until 10 p.m.  Residents living in the vicinity of NAS Key West can expect increased flight activity and noise levels during the training. FCLP training provides Naval aviators realistic carrier landing practice at NAS Key West's Boca Chica Field prior to actual landing practice on at-sea aircraft carriers.  Naval aviators are required to land on aircraft carriers at night. If you require further information, call the Public Affairs Office at 293-2425 or 293-2027.

I just read Friday's Key West The Newspaper article on the firing of Julio Avael. Very informative. "Key West the Newspaper Journalism as a contact sport"

At an unbelievable price, I could become
Rich!

What is better during a hurricane? It is better to leave and watch cable or satellite from a hotel room. OK a real answer: satellites are in space and do not get blown around by wind. Cable lines can snap when wind-blown trees fall on them. I have satellite and a generator and was watching TV during Wilma.

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County (L.A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.

Why don't the Hungarian and the bands have their own websites?

[Moondogs] We have friends coming down for the 4th. Let us know what's happening. We'll take one Dog, or as many as you can get aboard.

(?)Looks like you and Becker have scared all the cool people off your site.  Its getting to look like a grandmother’s chit cat site. That's what you get when you censor information. That's what Hitler tried to do. I hope your still making beer money.

[
When are we leaving Iraq?] We will never leave Iraq.

Charley-horses are caused by a lack of certain minerals in your system--potassium, I think. Broccoli and bananas are high in potassium. Also, taking quinine before bedtime helps, as does sleeping at the end of the bed with feet extended over the edge of the mattress.

Over 60% of homeless males and 35% of homeless females are
veterans. Veterans have a suicide rate twice the rate of the general population. 15% of the homeless children are dependents of veterans. Veterans are responsible for 100% of your freedoms and way of life. If you have one tenth the courage of these brave men and women you will follow this link to find out why they deserve our thanks and prayers. Use your votes to keep those that put them in harm's way to keep them accountable! soldier

There is no cure for charley-horses. Since I can't do anything about ageing I'm going to drink more water.

Monroe County homeowners will not get much relief from high property taxes under the latest proposal supported by Ron Saunders.  Some homeowners may even have come out better in the long run by leaving things just the way they are now.  Saunders joined the democrats in blocking the proposal that would have eliminated our property taxes in exchange for a higher sales tax.

[Iraq] 3500 Dead, 28,000 Injured, = 31,500 and that’s about half of Monroe County. Were the lies really worth it if all the losses were felt at home?

Some Bikers from Sunday’s ABATE Poker Run

[Sheriff Rick Roth] You have been in that post now for more than a decade and for me it's very hard to believe that if you are as intelligent as you claim to be that you can't see what goes on in the Monroe County Government. Maybe you have sat at the round table too long and can't see the forest through the trees. Or does the gang of three have you on their payroll? Something is definitely wrong when a man like Tom Willi covers up one lie with another and everyone who should take notice doesn't, and the whole barrel with the rotten apples just keeps rotting. You should know that corruption is also a crime; or is it your practice to sweep that under the carpet? How is it possible that a county that is in the black and financially sound from one year to the next with no major projects being done be millions in the red? Somebody has been dipping into the till. How much did you get? If this is an insult to your integrity it is meant to be and I hope it really pisses you off. Sooner or later those crooks will take you down with them. --imba@vnet.hu

"charley horses" are caused by low potassium.

You won't have to worry about any cable or satellite service because there won't be any electricity. After a hurricane, there won't be any telephone poles for power, cable, or phone. I think I would be more worried about a roof on my house if I was you.

Nothing else needed to be said for our outstanding citizens in the Keys!

[To the people who live on Primrose Lane in Eden Pines with the basket ball stand] You are true scumbags for taking it over to Palm Ave and throwing it in the woods. All your lazy asses had to do was call waste management and they would of came and picked it up for free. You people who dump need to go to jail then probation and your punishment should have you work and live on the worst dump in the world. Then maybe you’ll learn to respect the earth. It is not a dumping ground. Maybe that’s how you live, you pigs.

[78 The Hungarian] "Yes that is unusual, it's the first time I saw anything like that." I had to agree with dad on that. He went on, "Let's go boys.  Marie, we will have to make it to a town or a village before dark. Let's follow this track, see where it will lead us." We got going two by two,  me with dad and Steve with mom. The pace was a lot easier than before, but my feet were cold. My shoes were soaked through. The track was fairly straight, just the elevation had a tendency to change. Two men stepped out on the track seventy yards in front of us. The Hungarian

Did anyone understand the property tax reform information in Sunday’s Citizen? Should I be happy or sad?

Thanks to the poster who correctly identified the male grackle that I’d been trying to identify.

The consequences of higher oil prices.

The causalities to the Iraqis who’ve supported the US are the unmentionable result of our leaving. No one talks about it, least of all Bush.  He had no plan after Saddam’s removal and now he has no plan for protecting those who supported us

I read that men who take naps have 37% less heart attacks. I wonder if it is because naps give the heart a little chance to rest. I’ve always felt guilty taking a nap because of the stuff I should be doing, but no longer. Now I’m doing it for my health. Good night.

An Iraqi author yesterday compared the new Iraqi government to the Vichy Government in France under the Germans. He said the people don’t support it because it is a puppet government of the occupation forces and they will all be killed after the Americans pull out.

It was so delightful watching the tiny fawn playing. It seemed to be running in three directions at the same time. What a goof.
[When are we leaving Iraq?] Are you kidding? We’re still have a major force in S. Korea fifty years after they arrived.

What is better during a hurricane satellite or cable? Which service is less libel to fail? If I use a generator will the satellite still work and will the cable still work?

[Tales from the old country-brutality]  Some folks have remarked that I have seemed to have had a pleasant childhood, free from the notorious brutality prevalent in the old country. I wish to correct that assumption; my childhood was just as painful as any of my countrymen. One of my most vivid memories was of a cruel game that my brother Gröömpt and I invented called “Beat Karl.”  Karl was a fat boy from Alsónémedi who was a bit slow, and rumored to have a small amount of brain damage. We would corner Karl whenever he came into the village and give him a large burlap sack filled with kle’shnaks (goat testicles). Gröömpt and I would then see how many Karl could eat, and then we would try to beat that number. The one who ate the most “Beat Karl” and won the game. In all of my childhood years, we beat Karl only twice--he really loved his kle’shnaks. The brutality part of this story happened when my Mother Krenka found out we were giving away kle’shnaks. She would force my brother and I to watch our saintly Gramma Krevlik get naked and take a bath. I will never forget that torture for as long as I live. As for Karl, he did what he could do best with his background; he went into politics and was mayor of Alsónémedi for many years.

It looks like, buried in the midst of all the property tax mumbo jumbo in the Sunday paper, the little part about eliminating the great [to my simple mind]  3% Cap on any yearly homesteaded property tax increase.  Would someone explain why this is good thing please?

[Lousy Tech Support] If you have a lot of open programs in your taskbar you might find this free plug-in helpful. It allows you to arrange you taskbar and tray by drag and drop. Taskbar Shuffle

[Obscene bananas] The Times of London, interviewing witnesses in Diyala province in Iraq, described scenes from the hard-core Salafist version of Islam being enforced (similar to what the Taliban imposed in Afghanistan), including breaking the fingers of those who repeatedly smoked cigarettes, prohibiting grocers from displaying bananas (as "obscene"), and requiring them to screen cucumbers from tomatoes (as the latter are "feminine vegetables"). One local man said he assumed that another restriction that farmers modestly cover their goats' "nether regions" was just a rumor, until he saw a goat wearing boxer shorts.

[snide poster on the real estate market]  Snide no, concerned about our government being controlled by useless factions, yes! The Real Estate racket is and has been forever another con to make profit on the weak and inept property owner. For Sale By Owner should be the law of the land!

Does anybody have pix of the huge waterspout that formed around the contents the other day? (Ed: This photo was taken by Mike Nice and published on News~Barometer online)

[77 The Hungarian] Dad stopped and motioned for us to stop too. Ten yards in front of him was a footpath and a funny little man in a hunting getup walked by at a rapid pace. When he spotted us he motioned for us to follow him. Were about to do that when a whole slew of people came marching by carrying all kinds of weird stuff on their backs, like radios, and gramophones with the big funnel. When the last guy came by we attached ourselves to the tail end and followed. After a brisk twenty minute walk the border lay before us. It was a strip of plowed land twenty-five yards wide and on the far side Austrian flags were attached to the trees, just like the bus driver said earlier that day. The funny little man was waiting at the edge of the plowed strip and told us to run across as fast as we could and pointed to our right.  A sinister looking guard tower loomed about five hundred yards away. The crossing was a little uphill and mom went first as fast as she could. I could hear her labored breathing as she climbed. She was only a few yard short of Austria when she collapsed. A friend of mine that reads your site daily called me today and told me she saw a posting on your site with my name on it, Billy Holm. I’m not sure who posted it, but it wasn't me. I read your site a while back, but it seemed to have way too many pissed off and bitchy people on it and I have better ways to spend my time. My friend tells me that your site will usually post email address of people that go too far, but she hardly ever sees a name. I read what I was supposed to have said and thought it was pretty funny. I really don't care but someone else might. In the future you might want to be a little more careful. You never know who might contact the States Attorney. (Ed: I apologize for any angst on your part and I removed your name from that post. We really have no way to check the accuracy of submissions. The email address: InTheKeyz@aol.com  Was the poster who gave your name fraudulently. I’m sorry that there are so many assholes around.)

The outgoing general of Iraq was on CSPAN, appearing before some committee and never once mentioned “Iraq freedom”. Instead he referred to his mission “..to protect our interests (oil) in the area (Mideast).” I wonder why the news media didn’t pick up on his understanding of his mission over there compared to what President Bush says our mission is.

Shark Bite2

[Photo of the week] Shark Bite is, pardon the pun, the hands-down winner.

A snide poster yesterday implied that the real estate market was running Florida’s government. So what is wrong with the real estate market? It is a multi-billion dollar industry like commodities or the automotive market. Is the poster angry that another important industry has influence or is he just mad that he’s going to have to pay less property taxes?

I think the founders of Pink Floyd look like Larry Flint and Richard Gere. Don't you?
Once again, Tom Willi shows his utter lack of integrity and honesty.  Concerning the Marathon courthouse issue, Willi is now dancing around the truth once again about statements made to Judge Taylor.  Are we to believe Judge Taylor, a jurist with an impeccable reputation or Willi, protected lap dog for DiGennaro, Spehar and McCoy. who we all know has no scruples whatsoever and changes his story and recollection of events to fit the moment.  I seem to remember the county being in reasonable fiscal condition until Willi and the Gang of Three took over county government.  Now we are hearing about a $20 million shortfall.  Somehow this malfeasant individual must be removed form office.  And for the sake of Monroe County and the taxpayers who will be called upon to pick up the tab, the sooner the better!  --chartrac@bellsouth.net

If my dreams started dictating my life, like some crazy people, it would mean I should pursue a torrid relationship with Jessica Simpson in hopes that during sex, she would transmogrify into my 8th grade wood shop teacher. That's why I do what I choose to do, not what my nutty dreams suggest.

I have just read and signed the petition: "Save Man's Best Friend from the Dog Meat Trade - Say YES to House Bill 2991" Please take a moment to read about this important issue, and join us in  signing the petition. It takes just 30 seconds, but can truly make a difference. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/879609320

[The next ugly trend here in America?] One party active in the recent elections in India's Uttar Pradesh state represents the interests of "dead" people. Lal Bihari, 48, works on behalf of an estimated 40,000 living people who have been victims of relatives having declared them legally dead, usually in order to inherit their property, and once the government accepts such a declaration, the legal system in India is too slow, crowded and corrupt to bring that person back to "life." Bihari himself "officially" died in 1976, and despite several schemes (such as kidnapping a cousin in order to be arrested and thus proven to be living), he remained "dead" until his proof of life was accepted in 2004.

I have no connection with Key Deer Bar except I live in the neighborhood and would like to have somewhere near to go to for dancing and drinking, occasionally to eat. I see nothing wrong with the local bands blowing their own horn. Lord knows it is better than all that negativity about the Keys.

9.2 billion dollars a month is the cost of the Iraq War and after four years they still don’t have electricity.

[Tales from the old country-my sister]  I remember when one of my sisters reached körblenik’, which loosely translates into “breeding age”. My father would brutally interview any of the village boys who wanted to take her out; he had a list of questions that would have embarrassed a perverted longshoreman. Now I need to mention that my sister wasn't a beauty queen; she was ugly as a termite-ridden post due to the rampant inbreeding problem in our country- she was short, fat, about 4 feet tall, had a bulbous, warty nose, stumpy legs, and thick black hair all over her body- But she was one of the few eligible women in town, so men from eight to eighty fought over her like she was the last woman on earth. It seemed that their dating criteria boiled down to what my Gramma Krevlik called dööka ka döinki, which literally means  “hole and a heartbeat.”  I have experienced a similar situation while living in your Florida Keys, but that is another story that may be addressed later. One incident in the old country that I vividly remember occurred during one of Papa’s probing interviews with a young lad from the nearby village of Alsónémedi. He asked the suitor, Pesco, what he would like to do with his daughter while on the date. Pesco, being not too bright but very straightforward answered, pukuslek' (hump) her. This so angered my father that he picked up Pesco by his hair, looked him right in the eye and screamed, “ If anyone does pukuslek' with my lovely daughter, it will be me. We never saw Pesco again. Rumor has it that he moved to America, settled down with a woman from West Virginia and has a thriving business as a personal injury attorney. They have many ugly children. Tales from the Old Country

I just got off the phone with Cingular/AT&T tech support and got the best laugh I have had all week.  It made me smile on a rainy Saturday.  I am having problems with my service.  He tried a few things to fix it but the problem is still happening.  I asked him about canceling my contract because of these problems and that I don't think I should pay a cancellation fee because of the problems and they are unable to fix them.  I reminded him that my contract says they guarantee that they will fix any service problems or release you from the contract at no penalty.  His exact answer was: "If you turn to the 5th page you will see it says we guarantee we will fix all service problems and if we cannot fix the problem we will amend your contract to say we could not fix the problem".  The real scary part is he was serious.

[new peacock neighbors]  Until you said two chicks were missing, too, I thought they may have relocated themselves.  I was amazed to find out they actually can fly quite a ways and get very high in trees.  I hope you find them soon.

Ed, on behalf of Big Pine Key and friends, please don't sell your domain name, unless you get a small fortune for it. Then we'll be pissed, but we'll understand.

We were fishing on Upper Sugarloaf on Saturday and saw a six foot crocodile deep in the mangroves. There's no question about it, as it sat contentedly for 8 hours while the high tide turned to low tide. Yes, we called FWC. No, we didn't hear back.

Speeding Cars: Must be on Key Deer Blvd. A lot of officers live on BPK.

Culinary teacher, Holly (Brozi) Bell got her job back. Awesome! It looks like Acevedo grew some balls after all--in a roundabout way. Even though he would never admit why she got fired in the first place, he made the right thing happen and that's what counts most. Kudos to Mr. Acevedo.

[Flag Day forgotten] Lets not forget to fly our flag on the 4th of July. This is a great country be proud of.

[Black bird] It was probably a male grackle.

[Peacocks]  A friend had a few on his property, thankfully away from all other houses. They made loud, obnoxious calls. They are so annoying that if my next door neighbor had any, I would get rid of them when the owners left the property to go to work.

CNN and Money released the results of a study comparing spending for Mother's Day to spending for Father's Day. Spending for mother's was higher so of course the spin on the story was that people spend less on their fathers than their mothers. The desired result of the study was to get people to spend more for no reason at all.

If you think logically about the results of the study and put them into social perspective you may have a different opinion of the results. Perhaps the reason spending is out of whack for the two holidays is because we have so many single parent households (headed by women). So why spend money on the absent parent? Not! The intention of the study was to get you to spend more if you were going to buy something in the first place by making you feel you that weren't spending enough. Victory to retailers and Wall Street!

Our elections are swayed the same way because the same ad agencies make their ads too. Wake  up America, you are sheep being lead to social slaughter.

Lost Cargo will be open Monday ready to rock! We had a great much needed vacation and Chuck brought back lots knives from the blade show. For my DVD customers we brought back over 250 DVDs. We got some real good ones.  $8.95 each or 3 for $20.

I hooked up with my produce guy this morning and got several cases of Tomatoes, sweet bi-color corn, strawberries, cantaloupe, mangos, oranges, Ga. peaches, potatoes, peppers, onions and more.  I can't wait to see everybody. I really did miss ya'll and it was so great to get back to paradise!

[76The Hungarian] Uncle George took the lead, and was the first to descend from the road. I was right behind him. When we were on the side of the hill on the footpath it was easy walking. The snow wasn't deep and Uncle George had big feet, I trod in his footsteps. To our right the hill dropped away fifty yards and started up again. The next hill’s crest was even in height with the footpath, and everywhere there were pine trees. These were planted trees, not a natural forest; you could look down the rows. We’d been walking a half an hour or so at a quick pace, Uncle George had a long stride. The poor sonufabitch at the end of the line was probably running. Behind me was my mother then Steve then dad. I was checking the moss on the trunks of the trees to find which way we were traveling. Moss only grows on the north side. We were heading west. As I glanced to my right on the skyline between the trees, I saw people walking in single file.  We were far enough away that we didn't hear their footfalls. I looked again and Christ all Mighty, they were soldiers! The Hungarian

[Sloan Bashinsky is leaving the Keys] Imagine what it’s like for me to remember my father buying 2 acres on Lower Matecumbe Key in 1963, running from US 1 to the Atlantic Ocean, with a 4-bedroom, 4-bath main house, with swimming pool and canal, and a 2-bedroom, 1-bath caretaker’s cottage, in which lived a resident flats/back country guide and his wife, a world-record holder for women on permit, who both looked after the place. 7 percent real estate commission on $2.6 million is just over three times what my father paid the seller directly — $60,000.

Last spring I purchased one acre of mostly wooded land, and what turned out to be a knock-down trailer on Little Torch Key, next to a wildlife refuge, with a ROGO letter on the property, for $375,000, directly from the owner. Over six times what my father paid for his lovely place in 1963. Hard to believe, isn’t it?

I’ve been grousing to God lately about why I seemed moved to buy the Little Torch property in the first place, and perhaps this reminiscing has something to do with that. I have loved the Keys since I was 14 years old. I have never felt right living any where else. Yet my dreams last night said for me to leave the Keys and move on to something new. So that’s what I’m going to do, even as I wonder what’s to become of the land on Little Torch. Maybe someone who wants to live next to a wildlife refuge will end up with it. Or maybe it will become part of the refuge by osmosis

Shark Bite (lemon shark)

This is real. Scott, Sea Base Mate made the wrong move handling this shark. He was lucky that it was a small lemon shark. He required a trip to the E.R. and is now telling shark attack stories. Just another day at the office.

[pet food]  I too, miss Coconut Farm for pet food.  You may be able to get what you need from Blossoms grocery store in Key West. It's located at 408 White Street (near Eaton).  I purchased scratch corn in a fifty pound bag there. It beats driving to Homestead.

The one true thing that we all have in common down here, that nobody can dispute, is that we are all going to be really old someday.  Building a really nice assisted living facility at the Truman waterfront is truly a really good idea.

I went to see Injade yesterday after seeing the Key Deer Bar ad here and someone’s comment that they had improved. I’ve never seen them before and I was impressed. I was especially impressed with the harmonies that the girl singer and guitar player made. I think those particular songs might have been originals because I’ve never heard them before. They were the best things they did in the set I heard.  I can only repeat what great harmonies those two had. The woman has the best voice I’ve heard in a long while. It was so controlled and pure. No gimmicks at all. The guitar player sure can play that thing too.

Just a reminder to ride safely and have a blast tomorrow, Sunday on the Biker Down Poker Run.
Bulletin Board

I am really starting to wonder if our Editor doesn't either have a financial interest in Key Deer Bar or play with 40 Foot Sharpie and Injade.  All three seem to get a lot of free advertising on this page and Key Deer is always defended if someone dares to say anything bad about it.  The band schedule or menu is never mentioned at Tiki Bar, Rob's, Boondocks or any place else.

I haven't been to Key Deer in years but am going to have to go back and give it a try with the new management.  I went in a few times several years back and was disgusted by the staff, food, clients and atmosphere, but I have heard from people (other than our Editor) that the new crew has really turned it around.  I really liked it back in the days when Cynthia owned it.  She and Jerry are great people.

The Clinton administration may have ushered 9/11 with their deceptive foreign policy when they pretended to be friends of Islam in the horn of Africa, the Tran caucus, the Mideast and the Balkans.  Their clergy had a hard time preaching against the Great Satan given the Good Samaritan deeds infidels were delivering to their brethren.  The problem is, policy hasn't changed and President Bush still thinks he can tame radical Islam by showing that he can fraternize with secular Muslims in Albania and elsewhere.  He, as well as President Clinton, will not likely attain any legacy via such deceptive tactics.  The Muslim world invented the shell game and are fully suspicious of our every move.  So why are we trying to BS a BS-er?  It not only puts us in a bad light, but seeks vindication in their theology, aka politics, etc.  I certainly hope I am wrong but I see no other rational explanation for such shenanigans.  I thought we were above it.  Sad.

[Feed Store]  Thank you to the people who wrote in to respond about where to get feed now that Coconut Farm is closed.  I did call the OK Feed Store as mentioned on this site.  They were very helpful, and told me that they do in fact make deliveries to 2 places in Stock Island (The Rusty Anchor, and the other place I cannot remember).  She also told me that they will deliver to you if you are north of MM30 and you have a minimum order of $150.  They deliver every other Thursday to the Keys, and their delivery charge is 5% of your order.  Not a bad deal with the price of gas these days.  They are not limited to just feed, but essentially have pretty stock tons of things that any typical feed store would carry.  Their phone is (305) 246-3333.  Thanks again to those who wrote with the info.  I am going to get my stuff from them.

There isn't a prosecutor or police agency anywhere that would entertain the idea of charging someone based on what was said on this web-site.  If the person to whom the threat was made really feels threatened and wants to file a police report, go ahead.  But to investigate a comment without the so-called victim filing a report is a waste of everyone's time.  You can't investigate a harassment charge without a victim who wants to press charges.   And frankly, I don't think anyone cares.  Everyone knows that the internet is not policed.  Therefore, everyone's a tough guy.  Besides, the duck killer probably has no idea people are even talking about him.

[Quote of the day] I think it says it all,
"Ask the American Indians what happens when you don't control immigration."

[Property tax reform passed]  If you are recently homesteaded, it could mean a reduction in your property tax.  But if you are long time homesteaded it most likely means no reduction.  Here is a link from the St Pete Times: TaxBill check it out.

Anyone got any new peacock neighbors?  A mature female (Juliet) with two chicks (aprox 1’ high) and an immature male (Junior) (with a vibrant blue neck but no elaborate tail feathers – yet) disappeared from my property last weekend.  I have searched the entire neighborhood and they are gone.  I would love to find out who took them and charge them with theft, but more importantly I want the birds back. The two which are left, (Romeo) a mature male - is missing his mate, and the immature female (Phoebe) is crying out for her flock constantly, both are distressed at their absence.  So if anyone has any new peacock neighbors, or information about these specific four peacocks please leave a message at 289-7702.  I will make arrangements to have them returned.  If who ever took them returns them immediately - and in good health I will consider it no harm, no foul (pun intended) and let the pursuit of theft charges go. However, if I have to continue searching to find out who took them I will absolutely press charges.  And I will continue until they are returned.

For excellent canvas work, both huge and small jobs, at realistic prices, call Canvas by Andrea at 305-923-1200 she is located in Marathon.  This lady knows her stuff and is more than fair in her prices.

So, maybe not all male ballet dancers are gay. Video

What we need is a little more band self-promotion. Perhaps a dedicated website.

[speeding cars] If you tailgate me I'll jam my brakes. I don't give a damn if you’re a cop or not; if you run into me my lawyer will also jam your ass. You can post my email, hell, I'll even put my name here: (Ed: Phony name was given)

What's with this guy disliking NASCAR—that’s un-American and the person hunting the duck killer should be sent after him to be drawn and quartered with a dull fillet knife. His quarters should be on display in front of the Key Deer Bar. I love NASCAR, so there!

[Property tax reform passed in Florida. This might help the lagging real estate market] Now you know who is running your state government!

OK Feed store in Homestead has a minimum to deliver to the Keys, and I just don't need two hundred dollars worth of fish food.

I'm so happy that the Palestinians are murdering each other by the bunch. They are the ones who started this age of terrorism. I will never forgive them for dancing in the street after 9/11. I'm all for sending them more ammo so they don't run out before all of them are dead. Maybe with the efforts of the Lebanese army and Israel what will remain can be driven into the Mediterranean.

Europeans will never learn, Germany is planning to have an official nation wide Moslem Holliday in hopes of averting terrorism within their borders. Appeasement is a European sickness. After practicing it for neatly a century, they still haven't learn that it doesn't work.

[Small Black bird] The bird I saw didn’t have red wings. It looked like a very small crow-type bird. Is there another bird it could be? Do Red winged black birds always have the identifying wings? Are they born with the red or does it appear with maturity?

[75 The Hungarian] On the outskirts of Győr another roadblock was waiting for us. A mean looking Mongol stepped aboard our bus. This guy could be blindfolded with dental floss. He had his weapon in his hand waving it all over the place and was speaking in an unintelligent language on my part. Between the waving and the few words of Russian he made himself understood that he wanted everyone off the bus. When everyone was off, he got the paper from the driver and lined us all up in single file with the help of his comrades, none too gently either. This mental giant ordered us on board one at a time while he counted, adgyn, dwa, chitiry, piat, when he got to ten I expected him to take off his boots. He finally finished the count, and happy with his success sent us on our way.

When I was eighteen and nineteen years old I rode the Greyhound several times from Ft. Campbell, Ky. to Washington D.C., that's 600 miles. I swear this 120 miles seemed longer, the uncomfortable seats and the tension took their toll.

Before we entered Sopron there was another road block, but this one went smoothly. Other than the Mongols, there were some local cops that knew some of the passengers and we sailed right on through. All the passengers debussed at the depot, and the five of us rode back to the garage with the driver. He was a friend of dad's and showed us to the driver’s locker room area.

Things I like about the Keys.
1. The three stripped Keys babes. Yesterdays sunburn line, last weeks brown tan line and "Oh, my God, was I really that white when I left Pennsylvania" line?
2. Newborn Key deer. Full of spots and can jump in the air and spin around and continue spazing-out all in about 10 seconds while running in circles.
3. The huge Jewfish (I'm old school) on the Adolphus Busch wreck.
4. Bahia Honda
5. Taking visitors out to the snorkel balls behind Little Palm Island.
6. My favorite swimming hole. (Nope I'm not telling you where it is).
7. Spoken in my best Fast Times at Ridgemont High voice, “All I need is some flat water, some ice cold brews and some cool Buds.
"Be excellent to each other, Dude." I need to quit watching movies.

President Bush is moving from Crawford Texas to the Balkans. They are the only people on the planet that like him.

Your black bird was probably a "red-winged blackbird". Both male and female sing, with the song, "Conk-ka-reeee".

I’m glad they are getting more rock and less country at the Key Deer Bar. Now if only they could get rid of that NASCAR crap.

People kill for love, hate fear or rage.” Said Sidney Greenstreet in 1948’s The Velvet Touch.

Property tax reform passed in Florida. Which means that we’ll get a big reduction in our property taxes. This might help the lagging real estate market as the price of owning a home will be less. (Foreclosures are increasing)

Is
big oil colluding on price? How come all the gas stations go up in price at the same time all over the country when the price of a barrel of oil remains the same?

[speeding cars on Key Deer Blvd]. I agree, but did you ever drive from Big Pine to Key West in the AM, between, say, 4:30AM - 6:00AM, and count how many Key West Police cars (marked) are screaming down US1, tailgating the motorists doing the speed limit, passing in "no passing" zones, etc. That is the "real" pisser! The ones that are supposed to be enforcing are also the problem. Oh wait, they're not in their jurisdiction. Maybe the FHP could get them since I don't think they are part of the bubba system..

I hate hearing Tavernier advertisements and fishing reports and Jimmy Buffet. I hate Clear Channel Radio. The new programming sucks. The only good thing about it is I don’t have to hear them play Hendrix’s Purple Haze every hour as they did on WAIL.

Someone was asking where they could get a new cloth top made for their boat. In Tavernier, on the Bayside there is a shop about 1/4-1/2 mile south of the Tavernier Creek Marina, almost across from Coral Shores H.S.

Yesterday was Flag Day and no one celebrated or mentioned it. Long may it wave!

[Democrats always back down] Tell that to the citizens of Nagasaki and to the Russians during the Cuban Missile crisis. Can you say "When they do speak there’s no BS?" Democrats may not do well with a dog and pony show, but don’t piss them off. You can also ask Milosevic in Kosovo. His ethnic cleansing plan was put to an abrupt halt by the last Democrat in office.

No A/C?

[speeding cars] Is this the new fad, to drive with your headlights pressed up against the rear bumper of the car in front of you, driving with the left set of tires on the center line? And I am guessing whether they are looking to see when they can pass, or they are trying to influence the car in front of them to go faster. Speed should be enforced when it is excessive, but they need to add tail-gating to their list of things to enforce. It's too dangerous, and if you have to swerve, where are you going to go? You either are on a bridge, or next to mangroves. And if you are following a semi trailer truck closer than 100 feet you are a certified idiot (I'll keep it clean for now).

[Tales from the Old Country] I need a new "Tales" fix. Hurry, I feel very humor deprived and this site has become much too serious.

The OK Feed store delivers to the Keys.  They’ve been around for many years.  I see their delivery truck on the highway every once in awhile. My most recent sighting was yesterday on Stock Island. I believe that is the feed store in Homestead on Krome Ave. that a recent poster referred to.

[small black bird] It was probably a red-winged black bird.

After that wild night with a Key West Czech hooker, I needed a case of Bag Balm and a variety of shots.

A mother of two in a suburb of Chicago doesn't have to turn on the news for an update on NASA's space mission. She just flips on her baby monitor. Since Sunday, Natalie Meilinger's baby monitor has been picking up black-and-white video from inside the space shuttle Atlantis.  "Whoever has a baby monitor knows what you'll usually see," said the elementary school science teacher. "No one would ever expect this."  Live video of the mission is available on NASA's Web site, so it's possible the monitor is picking up a signal from somewhere.  "It's not coming straight from the shuttle," NASA spokeswoman Brandi Dean said. "People here think this is very interesting and you don't hear of it often - if at all."  Meilinger silenced disbelieving co-workers by bringing in a video of the monitor to show her class on Tuesday, her students' last day of school. At home, 3-month-old Jack and 2-year-old Rachel don't quite understand what their parents are watching.  "I've been addicted to it and keep waiting to see what's next," Meilinger said.

[Never hurts to refresh one's memory of a pleasure] In case you are having a rough day, here is a stress management technique recommended in all the latest psychological journals. Just follow the 7 steps below. The funny thing is that it really does work.
1. Picture yourself lying on your belly on a warm rock that hangs out over a crystal clear stream.
2. Picture yourself with both your hands dangling in the cool running water.
3. Birds are sweetly singing in the cool mountain air.
4. No one knows your secret place.
5. You are in total seclusion from that hectic place called the world.
6. The soothing sound of a gentle waterfall fills the air with a cascade of serenity.
7. The water is so crystal clear that you can easily make out the face of the person you are holding underwater.

Tonight, Friday night Injade will be rockin' The Key Deer Bar and Grille. Come on out and have fun with us. We'd love to see you, and party with you!

To those posters that are thanking the truck driver for running over the iguana:  you are sick individuals.  Anyone that deliberately runs over an animal, of any kind, or thinks it's okay to do so, have major psychological problems.  I truly hope that I don't know you or ever meet you.  You are on the same low level as the a'holes that killed the alligator and birds in the Blue Hole last year.

[Are you still hoping to be safe?] The picture below was taken from the third story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to Our Lady of the Gulf church in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi on the morning of August 29th, 2005. This is believed to be the initial tidal wave of Hurricane Katrina. The wave was approximately 35 to 40 feet high when it slammed into the beachfront communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland.  It completely destroyed 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles, and more than a mile inland. But the destruction only started there. The flooding which continued inland destroyed all but 35 homes in these two communities of approximately 14,000 people. It almost looks like a mountain. The force behind it would have the same impact of one.

[duck Threats] I agree that the threat posted was probably just hot air, some creep trying to scare the driver.  I disagree with the “no victim” theory.  No victim needs to be identified. Simply publishing the threat completes the crime.  In any event the threat target was identified.  The poster identified the target’s actions, and his home.  It’s crystal clear that the threat poster has one single individual in mind.  That’s plenty of I.D. The local constabulary should investigate so as to identify the threat poster; a prosecution may not be warranted.  To fail to investigate is to gamble that the posting is bull-hockey.  Think about it, are you willing to gamble with someone else’s life?

Injade and 40 Foot Sharpie have both gotten a lot better since their inception. Some bands grow, some stay the same, and some get boring. These two are definitely growth bands.

Bob and Dixie are pulling out for the summer, and we already miss our Keys! We will be seeing other beautiful parts of this great country we live in, but the Keys are still the best!  We hope you each have a good summer here; one that boasts no hurricane damages!  We will especially miss our daughter, Kristi Lee, and our church, the Vineyard.  Take care and God bless!   Photo Gallery

One could wear this tee shirt to our nearby Wal-Mart on Saturdays when the store is 99% far eastern in origin (India, Pakistan, Korea, China, Japanese, etc.), or, one could wear it to this same store on Sundays when the store is 99% Hispanic in origin, but, unfortunately,  only a handful of those in the store on Sundays would be able to read it. (Note the t-shirt was made in Pakistan from India cotton.)

WEOW 92.7FM is changing their format to appeal to older listeners. That was the only place I could hear new music.

As with many funerals, it was a cloudy, rainy day. The deceased was a little old lady who had devoted her entire married life to fussing at her poor husband. When the graveside service had no more than terminated, there was a tremendous burst of thunder accompanied by a distant lightning bolt and more rumbling thunder. The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, "Well, she's there."

[74 The Hungarian]  The bridgehead was lousy with soldiers, Mongol ones. Two T-55 tanks were blocking the bridge and the soldiers were milling around. It took me a while to figure it out. A group of Mongols would line up off to one side of the bridge with the Danube in the background for a posed picture with the front row kneeling and the back row standing, with all their guns of course. The Mongol who got to be in the middle always held a sign painted on poster board and I could only make it out when we got closer. It said The Suez Canal. If these assholes thought that the Danube was the River Nile then they must have thought that St.Gellért mount was a pyramid. I don't think these Mongols had ever been in a city. After the picture was taken, another group would take their place. The Hungarian

To the Monday morning lawyer yesterday, you forgot one important detail that makes your whole scheme worthless.  Who is the victim?  A blanket threat on the internet, not made to a specific person is not illegal.  Simply being offended by the threat does not make you a victim.  No victim, no crime.
[Bag Balm] I found it at the Walgreens in Key West

Yesterday I saw a black bird the size of a cardinal. I wonder what it was. It had a nice high pitched call.

[Investigating threats to duck killer] What a waste of time. It was probably some old lady. You’ve all seen them writing people’s license numbers all over town for some perceived violation to their life.

Kudos to the Diversified Services truck driver for ridding us of at least one iguana pest.

Congress’s approval rating is only 23%. The Democrats promised change, but when they received pressure from Bush they backed down. Democrats always back down. Boo, democrats.

[Tales from the Old Country] It sounds like the Hungarian is the only one who dislikes the “Tales”. Could it be he’s jealous of someone who can actually write?

[Bag Balm] Feed stores carry it. I've found it in Wal-Mart.  People are put off by the name, but it's also the best healing ointment I've found. I've gotten quicker healing with it than with the expensive little tubes of stuff like Neosporin or Bacitracin.

It's good to see Key Deer Bar having better bands. I will be there to see Injade Friday. I saw 40 Foot Sharpie last Friday and they have become top notch. They were supposed to play outside, but because of the rain, they played inside. They weren't so loud that you couldn't enjoy yourself. I'd like to see more bands do that when necessary.

Who ever is bashing Judge Becker must be someone who was arrested, tried and convicted and now hates the judge because he or she is a criminal.  Judged Becker just happens to be the one blamed because she was on the bench that day.  I know Ruth pretty well outside of work and she is a great, kind and giving person who is just doing her job.  Luckily, I have never had to deal with her, or any judge, professionally.  The best advice to the person insulting her: Stop breaking the law!  If you were told you had cancer would you hate your doctor? (Ed: There has not been one negative comment about Judge Becker)

[Sticky orange balls] Try cornstarch on your balls, it keeps mine from sticking to my legs.

Yes I like NASCAR because it is all American, like apple pie, Rock n Roll, and the 'Right to bear arms'.

[Wisteria Island pristine?] Isn't it all Australian pines? I think it's ugly, and would much prefer the look that Tank Island, now known as Sunset Key, has. But I hope they keep the historical name.

Anyone know these folks? ABATE

I was told that there is a support group that meets in Key West for sex addicts.  How do these people relapse?

[the IKC is back] I have renamed my truck "the iguana population control device”  When are we going to have another iguana fishing tournament? I caught a 15 pounder on 10 lb test last week!
Anyone know the latest info on trees in the canals from Oct. 2005's Hurricane Wilma? The tree's owner, a guy across the canal from me, just left it there and its difficult to get my boat in and out

[From the Citizen crime report] Green Parrot is host to new battle of the sexes. Five people were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct after an alleged brawl at the Green Parrot early Monday morning. According to reports, they were still on the scene when officers arrived about 2:21 a.m. Monday at the Southard Street bar. A group of two men and a woman were allegedly attacked by another man and woman. The groups reportedly separated by sex, with the men fighting each other and the women punching each other until bar employees separated them. One of the men was treated for a cut on his forehead, and then all five were arrested and taken to the Monroe County jail.

Rules of the Florida Keys:
1) Coming to the Keys with mommy, then running off to get loaded in a bar is not cool.
2) Getting loaded and running your sweet looking, yet foul mouth at locals will get your arse kicked every time.
3) You came on vacation and are leaving on probation--a souvenir you'll never forget!

Woman and lower back tattoos. Video

The Sheriff’s office could boost their budget if they would set up on Key Deer Blvd in the A.M. I live there and get passed every morning by cars,  trucks, and SUV's doing at least 50mph. That's a little much.

[Bag Balm] I have seen it in many stores locally, but online: Vermont country store If that doesn’t work, they also sell “Tired Old Ass Cream.

I just got off work, I work at the Key Deer and I wanted everyone to know that I had an awesome night working there tonight. The Trivia game was new to me, but we all had a great time. I normally don't work on Wednesday night, I work Friday night. The staff tonight was great. Go JoAnn, Greg's better half! I hope I spelled your name right. JoAnn was great while Greg was hosting our trivia night and I didn't know he was so funny. It was truly an enjoyable night and the food I served was very, very good too. Greg, JoAnn, Clay and the cooks (chefs) that we have are really tops. Come by and check us out.

This has lots of info on controlling bugs! http://www.killsbugsdead.com/index.asp

Giuliani and Thompson are a bit burned out to be our fearless leaders. We already had several actors and are now suffering with Happy the Clown. What we need is a younger, under 60, President with lots of brains and testicular fortitude to straighten things out--not do another "shuffle the facts act" like the last bunch of green back pushing church goers has done. Anyone out there want to be our maintenance chief? We pay very well.

When my twin sons were two years old they came down with some kind of weird rash. It spread to every inch of there bodies, head to toe. Their eyes even swelled shut. Their mother and I took them to every doctor and hospital form Marathon to Miami. (even Baptists Hospital and University of Miami Medical center.) Those poor guys were put through every kind of test known. After spending thousands of dollars on weird medicines, doctors, hospitals and overnight stays at hotels, we came home to Big Pine in tears. Then remembering Doc Grider, we gave it one more shot. He took one look at them and said, "Oh, I've seen that before." They have an allergy that happens in the tropics. He wrote us a script and 48 hours later they were all but healed. So don’t rag on Doctor Grider. It's nice to have a doctor in the tropics who knows tropical illnesses.

[land and sea birds nesting in mangroves] To the person who thinks things in nature are changing. They may be but that island has no land mass and it is a bird rookery always has been.

What’s with 99.5FM (WAIL) They are now broadcasting from a Clear Channel station in Islamorada or Miami and giving Miami weather and advertising only Islamorada restaurants. Miami weather is no help to us down hear. We want Hobie back!

Every now and then politicians go so far out of bounds that it’s just mind wrecking.  A Florida county has a deal with one of the most powerful, widely heard AM radio stations in its area.  In the event of a hurricane the radio station is to broadcast all of this counties government emergency information. The radio station agreed to forego commercial activity and broadcast all the county press conferences from beginning to end while the hurricane emergency is in place.  What’s really neat about this great public service deal is that this radio station’s signal is very powerful very well known, very well respected.  This station covers more area than virtually any other AM station in the state.

Well, Sir, some of the local politicos don’t like the broadcasting format of the station. You see, it’s largely talk radio.  The politicos especially don’t like the opinions of the talkers.  So, because some of the Democrat politicos in Broward County hate Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, etc., the politicos are anxious to pull the plug on WIOD’s public service during hurricanes.  It’s just too easy to make the argument that these elected bozos place their concept of political correctness above public safety.  These clowns ran the Broward Supervisor of Elections office and were responsible for the hanging chad debacle.  Good Lord Dems, take a deep breath, try to swallow some bile and try to get on with serving the public.

How are they conjuring up 22 people every 90 minutes going to Pigeon Key? What a sweet, easy money, deal for someone in the ferry business.  The money should go to fire stations and sewers first.

Can any of the deputies out there tell us why their cars are parked on Coconut Palm daily in Eden Pines?

[To the bird lover of Picnic Island] I'm with you. I especially like observing the Large Breasted Thong birds.
[73 The Hungarian] All day yesterday and all night I kept hearing the sounds of a desperate struggle. In my naiveté I expected to hear the drone of hundreds of aircraft like I’d seen in the movies and white parachutes blossoming in the sky bringing us the needed things. The only airplanes that I heard were Russian planes. They were probably adjusting artillery fire. Mom heard while she was out that on the evening of the 3rd. of November a delegation went to the Russian commander at the airbase at Tököl. The new defense minister Paul Maléter was the head of the delegation. As soon as the delegation arrived they were arrested. On the morning of the 5th, at about 9:30, my father came home and had a worried look on his face. He was definitely not the happy person we saw on the 29th.

I heard him talk to my mother, "Maria, we have to go now!" That got her upset, "What the hell you mean, now?" "Just what I said dear, NOW! This minute, this instant, an hour ago." "What about all our things that both you and I worked for all these years." "Maria, the ÁVÓ is looking for me!"

Pecker Key (Picnic Island)At high tide late yesterday afternoon I was anchored close to the island nearest to Little Palm Island, I call Pecker Key (because of its shape) in the Picnic Island archipelago. That's the one with all the hurricane damage.

There were the strangest collection of land and sea birds on the same mangrove trees. There were Man-o-wars, Morning Doves, Cormorants, White Crown Pigeons, Ibis, Cattle Egrets and those little brown tweedy birds. I’d never seen anything like that before. There are so many strange thing in nature lately that is bears note.

I changed my mind on the proposed immigration bill. I am now against it because of a statement made on CSPAN yesterday. The guy said, “Suppose we let 11-22 million Americans stop paying taxes. What would happen to our country?”  That made me realize the enormity of the drain on our country that these aliens cause.

We need a worker ID card that can be verified by a thumbprint reader on any employer’s computer. The print with display a photo of the cardholder. If it doesn't match his applicant, he can't hire them. Any employer who hires an illegal worker would be severely fined for failing to verify the worker’s ID. We have similar laws on our books now, but employers knowingly accept phony green cards because there is no simple verification system in place. These guest workers must leave the USA every four years. )I haven't figured out what to do about the aliens who've been her illegally for many years and have raised American children, but don't pay taxes.)

That's the way we get the taxes that they are screwing us out of. Imagine if we had 11-22 million more taxpayers who had to leave after four years? I’ll bet that added revenue would fix our social security system and maybe buy me a sewer.

How to tell when the OSHA inspector is on the take.

Some speculate President Bush will pardon Scooter Libby before he serves jail time, while others know he will.

Kudos to the truck getting the Iguana. How much is it costing this broke county to trap the cats that we take care of? If we keep the Lousy Lizards under control, then the county won't have to step in and screw it up.

In most states it is illegal to feed wildlife anything because most people feed animals the wrong stuff. Of course feeding the "wildlife" in Key West is OK as long as it opens their wallets.

Gulianni and
Thompson are neck and neck with republican voters. I don’t like Fred Thompson. He seems too strict.

[Everybody bashing the Republicans] Look around, the Keys are Democratic. And look what we have, a great County government.

[light-weight camera on cat’s collar] Can I get one for my wife?

[Deer Abby-cookies] It would be rude to tell her not to send them. The better idea would be to give her my address and have a couple of dozen sent my way.

Any Republican who is for gun control above and beyond what we already have on the books now is worse than any Democrat.  Thanks for nothing, Rudy.  So far the candidates who have thrown their hat into the ring are weak, or worse, on their votes for our freedoms.

[Deer Abby] Deer Cookies, Tell her how much all your friends and neighbors loved her goodies.  Then start sharing. Don't be greedy.  It's nice to share.

I can promise you these law enforcement cars as referenced do not reside at the address where they are seen on a daily basis.  The point being made was that to get to Coconut Palm they must be coming off Key Deer, and hopefully, are patrolling as they take their daily visit to that location.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the little green tins of Bag Balm?  It's udderly wonderful for my tired dogs.

Can someone please call Michael Jackson and ask him to sodomize a small boy or see if maybe we can dig up Anna Nicole Smith.  We need a new topic and let the realtor subject die.  This is getting very old.  Between realtors and this Hungarian character I don't know which I'm sicker of.

It has been 12 years since I last visited the Philly area, and as excited as I was to see old haunts, I was rudely brought into reality in the first hour of my visit. Philly has America's top spot for filth and over population. Everything is dirty: the streets, the air, the water and especially the people. Nothing is sacred there. Everything is down to the base cultural existence of a profiteering slum city. I cried flying back into Key West, seeing the beauty we have and knowing it won't last for long either. Our days are numbered here by greed and profit mongers; the same disease that finally killed Philly. Enjoy the Keys while you can.

I would like to comment on the Dr. Grider situation. I have been there a few times when my regular Doctor, whom I truly trust completely, was out of town or on vacation. The first time I went, I saw his nurse- practitioner, who had a medical student from the University of Miami check me out, only to look back at the nurse-practitioner and say she didn’t know what the diagnosis should be. They gave me some prescriptions for antibiotics and I paid $60 for that. I’m glad that it wasn’t a life or death situation. The last time I was in the office was on a Thursday with a work related injury and in pain. I was told by the rude woman at the desk that they were unable to help me because they were done for the day. That was at 10 am. I thought the sign out front says “urgent care” in big letters. I only have one thing to say about that, “I’m glad that we have great doctors and their staff in our community.”  Not!  --pinofmonroeco@bellsouth.net

[Fawn sighting] I saw one tine fawn yesterday on Kyle in Port Pine Heights and another this morning in the acres in the middle of the island

I can not believe the simple minds that are in the world. The Sopranos ended just as anybody who has watched for 8 yrs would have expected with life going on.  For “T”, he will always come out on top, but always looking over his shoulder. That was the ending. Folks, now do you get it?

[House flippers]  Ha, ha, ha.  Enjoying your real estate investments?  Maybe an ice cold Budweiser will make it all better.  Anheuser Busch Companies Inc would have been a better place to dump your cash.  Next time you get a windfall try consumer staples and discretionary, energy, financial, health care, industrials, information technology, materials, telecomm services, utilities, equity funds, taxable, municipal and corporate bonds.  Cheers to the stock market and my fabulous money manager!

Can you believe these are made from ordinary scotch tape? This is totally cool. I've never seen anything like it.

KW is going to annex Christmas Tree Island and get about four hundred thousand dollars a year in new taxes from the annexation. That has been the city’s excuse for allowing all mega development. That’s one of the reasons KW sucks--money over quality. Leave the island pristine.

It has been my experience that people who think South Park is vulgar and stupid love American Idol and NASCAR. Now, that is a sign of true intelligence. To quote an old sage "The right ones will get it."

[Judge Ruth Becker] She did fine by me in my divorce and I'm a guy.
