It’s hard to make bread at sea level. I think that is why there is so little really good bread here. It just doesn’t proof or rise properly. I wonder if that is why the sea-level desert peoples in the middle-east have flat breads. |

Bush wants to scrap the space station and space shuttle and colonize the moon. I like that idea and would now vote for him if he didn’t frighten me so much. |

Check out the sheriff’s web site at http://keysso.net it’s real easy to use. Go to Arrests and check out the photos. If I ever get arrested I’m sure going to smile after looking at all those sorry mug shots. |

Re: Dyslexia. I thought that the small ringing in my head was normal and everyone heard it. I thought it was the cosmic harmonics or something. I was quite surprised when I found it was only me who heard it. Hmmmmmmm. |

Some CEO’s are having a meeting on the subject of ethics in business. That’s just a lot of bull. All these guys want to do is network with other powerful people to their own advantage; in some neat resort and on company time; and maybe get their names in the paper so other business people will know who they are the next time they're looking for a job. Gimmee a break. |

The next time any of you run into a Hollywood producer tell him how phony wine and liquor look in the movies? The whiskey looks like tea and the wine--grape juice. Their movie booze usually has little bubbles on the surface like tea or juice does. They should be able to find something more convincing. Only the beer looks real. |

This may be old news to some. But I was wandering if anyone knows what is going on at the South end of the Bahia Honda Bridge? All of the construction, seems to have taken a very good fishing spot away from a lot of people..... |

I just read a great book and most of the facts in it were substantiated by letters and other correspondence. I don’t think that will be possible any more because people no longer write letters —we send email which leaves no record. |

It's not what the chickens eat, but what they leave behind. Wear shoes. |
| 28 | The people wishing to rent the house on Big Pine have evidently not read the Barometer and other papers, citing the statute regarding signs. As I understand it, Real Estate signs are to be posted ONLY ON THE PROPERTY! It s not legal to post signs on poles all over the place. Please remove them. Thanks. |

I WOULD LIKE TO NO WHEN THERE EVER GOING TO CLEAN
UP THE REMAINS OF THE PROPERTY WHICH MONTEGO BAY WAS ON. THE BIG
ORANGE DUMPSTERS AND THAT OTHER AREA IN THE BACK MAKE THAT PROPERTY
LOOK LIKE WINN DIXIE AND THE RAT INFESTED OLD MONTY'S BUILDING ON
SUMMERLAND KEY . VERY TRASHY. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY WAITING FOR?

| 28 | The Golden Globe Award for the world's worst ear-hair comb-over goes to Donald Trump. |
| 28 | I don't know about the beehive hairdo with the spider web, but I DO know this: The hair gathered while cleaning out one's hairbrush was collected and kept in a hairnet called a "rat's nest". This "rat's nest" was the underlying "form" one used to shape or twist the beehive hairstyle around. I've seen buggy looking beards. Tip: comb, shampoo, repeat daily. |

To the person asking about what iguanas and chickens
eat that affects the natural wildlife...iguanas are vegetarians for
the most part...they will eat plants, flowers...many of the same
ones that the Key deer eat. One would think that is not a good
thing, but keep in mind, the Key deer have a 3 foot browse line,
eating from the ground up to 3 feet or so, whereas the iguanas are
tree dwelling, and also eat up higher, where the deer can't go.
They really love the exotic plants we plant in our yards, such as
hibiscus. Yes, the cold does affect them, as they are cold-blooded
creatures. They are very inactive when it is cold, not eating much.
As for the chickens, they eat bugs, scorpions, etc.,
the same things as the anoles and geckos eat.

Before I knew I was Dyslexic I thought everyone saw things as I did. What a surprise when I found out they didn’t. I also didn't know that we were at the lower economic scale until years later when I went to school. What I mean is that lousy things are all right until you know that they're lousy. |

Regarding the person(s) that keeps bashing Larry
Sullivan, Bob Schneider (note proper spelling, Idiot), and the CIVIC
Association, you are pretty disgusting that you have to list your
ugly comments here, where you can remain anonymous. Go climb back
in your hole!
My mother always said, "if you can't say something
nice about someone, don't say anything at all." This is one time
I'm not minding her wise words.

| 26 | Thank you to the person who responded to my question about the chickens in Key West. I appreciate the education. What exactly do iguanas and chickens eat that affects the natural wildlife. Does cold weather affect iguanas? I haven't seen many lately. |

How is a girl supposed to get her dock approved from
the kids at Army Corp? Are they the good guys or the bad guys?
It's an after-the-fact permit for a dock sitting in
Marathon via Miami. We're moving the entire family to Beautiful Big
Pine Key from San Diego and the Dock might have to turn in to a
Deck. Can one park a 24 foot boat modified V by this 2 foot draft
Dock maybe Deck? Any advice would be appreciated. See ya Soon.
Maybe not on the Water which is why we're moving in the first
place. ~Dana~

Do you mean the Winn Dixie parking lot, or the
supermarket?
Well I will try and answer both questions. Since
Caldwell Banker took over the shopping
center the garbage cans have not been replaced.
Repeated calls to Caldwell Banker
only resulted in trash cans to be distributed at
certain areas near the shops, but nothing
has been put in the parking lot, where everyone gets
out of there cars and just throws what ever in the lot. I have
picked up bait that someone just dumped and the whole lot stunk.
there is no good reason for the managing Co. to not
correct this, but like always, the
Big Piners are promised many good things, as per the
articles in the newspaper that the new owner was going to make some
great improvements. Non so far.
As for the Winn Dixie store, corporate headquarters
thinks it better to have out side cleaners
to do the floor and they are not doing a good job.
When Winn Dixie employees were doing
the floor it was done every night and the place was
always clean looking. If the floor is looking shabby the whole place
looks bad. They are now doing a face lift;hope to see improvements.

| 26 | Smoking. Gas. Good combination for a blast. |
| 26 | The closest gas station to my home is one filled with the constant stench of cigarette smoke. I refuse to buy gas there. Who wants to smell that stinking, migraine inducing odor? Not me! |

I know of a sorry smoking mom who chain smokes in front of her asthmatic toddler! The child is always sick, always reeks of smoke. Think I should call child protective services? |

Everyone who has any pet parrots,
and or small four legged pets, be very careful. A hawk almost
got my Severe Macaw a few days ago. The next day it went after
several morning doves feeding in our back yard. These predators are
very well known for going after cats, small dogs etc. Maya Totman
told me she treated 40 hawks in the last couple of weeks. Seems
there is a shortage of food out there. Except for our pets.
We live in Port Pine Heights, there
has been a hawk around for the last couple of days.
Be careful. |
| 25 | Has anyone noticed how dirty the Winn Dixie is? |

We love Capt. Dan's pizza but can't take the

Re: BPK uncivil association, I would have to toss a
coin who was more egotistical
Larry Sullivan or Bob Schnider.
|
| 25 | The reason the gas prices are so high at Paradise Petroleum is because they need the profit to support their cigarette habit. While smoking has significantly fallen out of favor because of the health risks associated with it as well as inhaling second hand smoke, most people today are aware of the risks and try to quit if not reduce the amount they smoke. There is no excuse, other than ignorance or insanity for not knowing the risks. But the Smoking Gas Station continues to buck in the face of all common sense and reason and insists on jeopardizing the health of not only themselves and their children, but their customers. The message they send is "I don't care about you. I'll smoke all I want. The hell with you." Why would anyone want to support a business that cares so little about their customer? |
| 25 | Only Scott Peterson knows if HE wanted a baby. EVERY murder is horrible. Women's shelters are full of abused pregnant women- often the abuse starts AFTER the baby is on the way. Who or what reference is your beef at? Who said the Laci Peterson murder wasn't horrible? The same year as Laci's murder, a pregnant NC woman was murdered & stuffed in an oil barrel. Who was she? Heard of that one? Who is that NC football player serving time for the death of his pregnant girlfriend... Rae |

I wonder if the very generous Joan Kroc knew that in India, McDonalds doesn’t serve hamburgers. |
| 24 | If you want a really good pizza, try Captain Dan's Key Deer Inn. Best one since I left New York State. |
| 24 | Re: Laci Peterson. You seem to say that she had it coming (the "oops". According to Laci's sister, both she and Scott wanted the child) and that the case was getting a disproportionate amount of attention because she was pregnant. I think most people outside an insane asylum would be shocked and horrified at her death. So what's your beef about the matter? |
|
Friday January 23 2004 |
I
remember 4 years ago when another baby was kept in a playpen near
the register at Paradise Petroleum. On a daily basis the
smoke was so thick, you could cut it. Because of that and their
ridiculously high gas prices (higher than anywhere else on the
island or nearby), I have not stepped foot in there since '98.

The Big Pine Key Civic Association, in my
opinion, is a wonderful organization. Larry Sullivan,
however, was a poor choice for a president. When Bob Schneider was
the president, there was no confusion over personal opinions versus
civic association stands. I miss Bob. And I think people are
mistaking Larry's viewpoints for those of the organization. They are
different!!!!
|
| 23 | Of course Martha's, Mangrove Mama's and Takara don't serve Italian sandwiches!!! DUHH!!! The point was these restaurants do not attempt to be all things to all people but are service and customer oriented, serve consistently great food and that is why they are in business for so long. If you want a great sandwich, check out Kicking Back (used to be the Owl) on Cudjoe. Tired of this subject? Skip it. When I'm tired of it, I will. Until that time, I'll write what I want, when I want. |
|
Thursday January 22 2004 |
I usually don't respond, but I've got to say
something here. I have met Larry Sullivan on several
occasions, and found him to be a very intelligent, compassionate,
witty person. Calling him a jerk and saying that's why he couldn't
get a job is very unfounded and unfair.
Also, why do you keep associating everything he does
or writes with the Big Pine Key Civic Association? It seems
like every time he or someone else, who happens to be a member of
the Civic Association, writes a letter, it is automatically blamed
on the Civic Association, even though their letters were their own
personal opinion. I have been to a couple of the Association's
meetings (the public is invited) and found them to be very
informative and educational.
To say that they are against EVERYTHING is a joke!
Have you read their mission statement? Very interesting...one of
the key phrases is "Cessation of growth and protection of the rural
residential environment and natural resources..." They are against
any more development on our island. It's because of people like
this that Big Pine doesn't look like a Marathon, so I say KUDOS to
the Civic Association! I'm thinking of joining.
|
| 22 | Please Lord, don't let Larry Sullivan relocate to my area. I never want to read another of his longwinded, left wing diatribes ever again |
| 22 | Anyone who smokes around a baby or child, does not care whatsoever about that small child. I have seen it over & over- kids who themselves smell like chain smokers. That should be considered secondhand child abuse. |
| 22 | To the person commenting on the Smoking Gas station on Big Pine Key. #1 You probably never saw them blow smoke because it was to smoky in there to see. #2 Yes, you are correct everyone is supposed to be smoking outside but they aren't abiding by that rule. #3 Smoking outside of a gas station next to gas pumps doesn't sound to great either. #4 To the workers in that gas station please stop smoking around those poor kids for god's sake. |

Dick Gephardt's loss in Iowa just goes to show, once again, that the American people don't want a president with pink eyebrows. |
| 21 | Joan Kroc, wife of the founder of McDonalds died and left 200 million dollars to National Public Radio and 1.5 Billion to the Salvation Army. Sadly this fine woman died at the age 55 from cancer. |
| 21 | Important meeting Jan 21 at 3;30 Harvey Gov. Center in KW. DCA to meet again with BOCC. Come help save whats left of our Keys. |
|

Yes, yes there are people here on Big Pine, all
kinds. Large groups of New Yorkers, and those Jerseyites. We have
been invaded, yes, invaded by people. I guess only Winn-Dixie is
happy.
|
| 21 |
I don't think the restaurants you listed will server
good Italian sub (Martha's, etc.).
this subject is getting old we will never get a good
loaf of Italian bread in the keys
so for get about it.
As for Larry Sullivan: He should take his un-civic associates with him, I 'm tired of reading their anti-this and -thats. As for incorporation:
That is a dead subject also, it would have been good
if we had the right type of people to take charge and lead our
community...
|
| 21 | I'll tell what's wrong with your p.p. article, you got your facts mixed up. #1 everyone now has to smoke outside, #2 I don't think of myself as a slob even though I do shop with them. and last but not least I have never seen anybody blow smoke in anyone's face in that store. bitch, bitch, bitch. Ain't life grand!! |
| 21 | Larry Sullivan is nothing but a carpet-bagging, self-righteous jerk. That's apparent to anyone who has had to deal with him, or who has read any of his letters to the editor. He couldn't afford to live here because he couldn't find a job because no one would hire him because he's a jerk! Good riddance! |
|
Tuesday January 20 2004 |
As for Gene Michaels leaving the Keys, I say
good riddance! Yeah, he was a great supporter of the business
community...at least the businesses that sponsored his radio
station. I, for one, remember how he used his media position to try
to cram incorporation down our throats just a few years ago.
|
| 20 |
Re: smear of Larry Sullivan leaving the
island:
You need to get your facts straight! Mr. Sullivan is selling his house and moving from the Keys because he can't AFFORD to live here anymore! Contrary to popular belief, he and his wife were both part of the working class community, and he was not able to find a job because he had been blacklisted by certain prominent persons on whose toes he had stepped, such as Bill Becker.
I don't agree with everything he and his wife have
written in letters to the editor, but they have a right to their
opinions, and he has been unfairly crucified by certain individuals,
who jump on the bandwagon every chance they get to try to discredit
him. He did not lie. I know for a fact that this is the hardest
decision they've ever had to make, because they wanted to live here
forever!

Cuban bread
is NOT the bread of the Keys. It is not even the
bread of CUBA but the bread of Miami and a sorry attempt at
authenticity. But if a sandwich is advertised as Italian, one
expects some semblance of "Italian" ethnicity--whether in the form
of seasonings (i.e. oregano, thyme, basil) or ingredients (i.e.
Provolone, Fontina, Proscuito, Parmesano reggiano) that make an
Italian sandwich taste, well--Italian. And what makes Italian bread
Italian is the addition of semolina flour and olive oil and the time
that the dough is allowed to proof. Proofing time differentiates
pizza dough from Italian bread in that the longer proofing time
needed for Italian bread allows the gluten in the dough to develop,
giving it a wonderfully toothy texture. Cuban bread lacks these
qualities and although it may be fine for sopping up pork drippings
and liquefied lard, it reduces what could be a decent Italian
sandwich to another example of the same tiresome kitsch
of the local restaurant faire. Many of the locals are beyond
that--hence the profusion of recent complaints. Local businesses,
start listening!!! Or go to Martha's, Mangrove Mama's and Takara and
learn!!

| 20 | Regarding the World Bank debate - It has been said many times - "If you laid all of the worlds economists End-To-End they would never reach a conclusion". What say you?? |
| 20 |
RE: The World Bank and its grasp on the American economy. Five
hundred billion dollars is nothing in comparison to the US national
debt, which is estimated to be in the mega-trillions. Think of the
interest on that alone and all else seems insignificant. Please
remember no man or nation can become an island and if we detach
ourselves from a community that at least appears to be assisting the needy nations of the global family, we would be doing an injustice to them and ourselves. |
| 20 | I'm still shocked how large one billion is. "A billion seconds ago it was 1959." If the World Bank can manage that much money, surely they can do some good for the underdeveloped nations of the world. |
| 20 | I've noticed more Cuban people on the island. |
| 20 | Yes, there are more gay couples. Very noticeable when shopping at Winn Dixie |
|
Monday January 19 2004 |
Is it my imagination, or am I "coming out' ? It
appears to me there are more and more gay partners on BPK than ever
before.
But again as has been stated, "If sex gives you a
pain in the BUTT - You're going about it the wrong way".
|
| 19 | RE: Fisherman's Hospital - Perhaps it's time for we the unfortunate individuals who are being held hostage to the multi-nationals insurance lobby regarding health care and elsewhere, to speak out and demand that a fair and affordable health care system be introduced for all Americans, whether they be poverty stricken or affluent. For all too many years our government has waffled on the subject, for fear of offending their wealthy friends. Elections are looming in the, not too distant future, now is the time for us all to rally to the cause and voice our objection to the system as it presently exists. What say you?? |
| 19 |
The only way the citizen of this country will regain
control is to demand that Congress do there Constitutional duty to
control the Monetary System they relinquished to the World Banks 90
years ago. The World Banks are requiring that all Countries that
want to be part of the World trade Organization must have a sound
Monetary and Taxing system and for them (The World Banks) to have
full control, just like they do here in America through there
Federal Reserve Banks. The Federal Reserve which is own by the World
Banks have controlled our Government, its policies and agenda for
too many years. We know how to print money for a cost of pennies, we
do it for them now. Just think of what this country could do with
the 500 billion dollars in interest we pay them each year for
nothing. It's just a matter of doing it. Nothing else. The
Politicians would have to come back to the people for there
direction and campaign moneys. No more being controlled by the
Imperialist Dictator Banks. If you don't believe it. Look it up..

Mario's pizza (old Bay Point pizza) is
pretty good. Seems to be real dough (not that frozen flavorless
stuff at 2for20 and everywhere else). Just don't get their toppings.
I don't think they are fresh or even healthy for that matter. And
before all you pizza shop owners out there start telling me about
your so called "Homemade Dough" please ,.....making it is only HALF
the battle PROPER PROOFING of dough is what makes it taste good!

Big Pine lost a great friend and supporter of our community when Gene Michaels left. |

If you want to get a good fish sandwich go to the
flea market and get one... get one every weekend...pizzaworks agreed
was good but when you have been around for that long you get lazy...
|
| 18 | It sounds as if everybody's just mouthing off on people who own a business on big pine key. this is bad that is bad etc...etc... I am a business owner on this island and I do hope that you people don't bad mouth me like you do the restaurant's. If you do not like what they serve then by all means do not eat there. If you look around your home I am sure you can find the kitchen. Enough said! You have the freedom to chose! |

Why get rid of chickens in Key West ?
After living here for nearly 30 years I like to think
I am a pretty tolerant person but the arguments that the chickens
have "always been in Key West" is VERY misleading and are driving me
to the anti chicken side of the debate. Sure there were *some*
chickens running around (mostly in Bahama Village back in the
70's) but now chickens are all over. The big difference between
then and now is back then most people kept chickens for their food
value (or for cockfights). In my opinion the unchecked
population growth is similar to the iguanas, both should be
considered invasive species in that they compete for food
and displace native species. Want to appreciate birds ? how about
appreciating pelicans, ibis, cormorants, frigates, ospreys,
terns....
The chicken appreciation fad is so misguided it is a
sad reflection on just how extremely disconnected the newcomers
to Key West are with their environment. ....

For all you people complaining about
Aromas. Cuban bread is the bread of the Keys. Their sandwiches are
good. Just because you have a Bro, in New York that makes the
Authentic Italian Sub why aren't you there stuffing your face with
them. Ya know also Winn Dixie has decent Bakery Items. Their stuff
isn't bagged hot unless your in there at the butt crack of daylight.
There is one lady that won't even sell you a Donut if they're too
hot to box. So enjoy your stay quit complaining and hobbies are
good. Or get on US1 head North and get the Hell out.

| 18 | I like to view the yard sales on line. I wish they were posted before 8 AM consistently. |
| 18 | At Paradise Petroleum they hang babies by bungee cord in bouncy from the ceiling right at the check out counter. Every low life slob that goes in there breathes all over them, and with the place all closed up they chain smoke with these poor kids in there blowing all the cigarette smoke in their poor little faces all day long. This is so sad for these kids. They are going to end up with emphysema before they start school. The deer on Big Pine are protected why are these poor kids. Please somebody tell me what is wrong with this picture. |
| 18 |
Hello. I Live in the avenues
on Big Pine, and during the holiday season I noticed that the kids
were allowed to run free in the streets. On foot, and on bikes, I saw
kids as young as 5 and 6. Call me old fashioned but our neighborhood
just isn't safe enough to let your young children run unattended!! I know what a hassle it is to be following them step by step - but at least keep them on the same street as yourself so you KNOW what's going on. And just so no one says anything about me being an old fashioned grandmother who doesn't understand kids these days... I'm 18 and still think that this is ridiculous! -Christina |

As more and more people begin to starve
to death around the world, because of actions directly related to
Washington, DC, perhaps more Americans will begin to understand why
Judgment will come against them. The United States (not America),
is the New World Order, and most of the rest of the world
understands this.
Please think about this: Only in America ... do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: 'Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'. I urge you to pass this information on to others, or post it as you see fit to the Internet or by regular mail as others may need to understand what is going on. We all have a moral-obligation to help understanding and knowledge spread across America and the world. Read the rest of the story. http://www.heart7.net/mcf/fagan.htm |

Why do so many men on Big Pine look like Santa Clause and ride bicycles? |
| 17 |
Your right Pizza Works sucks!!!!!!!! When they first
opened on Summerland they were good. Now it's dirty. etc. etc. etc.
You want great Pizza go to Big Johns Kmart plaza Key West, long
drive but you can freeze it. EXTRA LARGE pizza for 12.99 16 inch
pie,, all the county, cable ,water company, Electric etc. eat
there. can't beat the price or QUALITY. Pick one up on your way home
or going down to shop one day, won't be disappointed, full menu.
P.S. I miss Gene Michaels. Hope to see him at he Super Bowl party. |
| 17 | To the person commenting on Aroma's. I understand why they use Cuban Bread. It is the only bread you can get at Winn Dixie that is not put in plastic bags while it is hot. So it is the only bread they can get that is half decent. Iceberg lettuce is flavorless and has no nutrition. What restaurant did you work in Subway. I do agree about the Italian Bread though it would be better, but you certainly can't get good Italian Bread at Winn Dixie. |

Friday January 16 2004 |
I was in the Bank of America yesterday; and had been carrying around a $5 check for too long so I tried to cash it. They required two I.D.'s and even fingerprinted me. (Yes, this was only for a $5 check). The teller stamped it twice, read the computer, examined the signatures and then demanded a five dollar fee for cashing the check because I didn't have an account with them. Well, to end this whine, they got the $5 check and I got nothing. True story. |
| 16 | Fisherman's Hospital did not have X-ray film today, Jan. 15th. Sucks to be you, if you went there for a scheduled test, emergency, or broken bone. When is the last time anybody heard of a QUALITY medical facility running out of such a basic diagnostic supply? Maybe Fisherman's should increase their already exorbitant fees so they can keep the basics in stock. Just think, with increased fees, Fisherman's might even be able to attract yet another doctor and/or administrator who has a serious alcohol abuse problem. |

Hey Everyone! Today is anti gossip day!! That's a
hard one for the human race! I've enclosed some words of wisdom to
help with this exercise today. Good luck!
The master of the Good Name, when people do see wrong or
evil, they should know and understand, without a shadow of a doubt,
that they have something of that evil nature within themselves. In
order for the person who has committed the wrongdoing to correct him
or herself, the person who witnessed this wrongdoing, to correct or
repeated the gossip must first do his or her own correction

Italian sub, fresh italin bread (not Cuban) shredded
lettuce, Genoa
salami, ham, procuitto,
provolone cheese, roasted peppers and Italian sub dressing.
|
| 16 |
Italian submarine sandwich dressing is: oil, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, garlic, oregano. I agree, it's the bread, stupid! |
|
Thursday January 15 2003 |
As far as Aroma's is concerned, an Italian sub is not
served on Cuban bread. You do not use sliced Romaine lettuce for
the sub. I grew up in the restaurant business and I know very well
that shredded iceberg lettuce is cheap to buy. It is a better
lettuce to use because it is not bulky on the sandwich. As far as
bread is concerned, I appreciate your integrity to use only fresh
baked bread, but I also know that Winn Dixie makes fresh Italian
bread daily. All breads have a different taste to them and Cuban
bread does not go with the ingredients of and Italian sub, it is too
sweet of a bread. And my remark about living in the keys too long,
is obviously correct.
|
| 15 |
Sorry folks, but our local restaurants do not buy from winn dixie,
only if they run short on something, henry lee and cisco serves them
yes some do get there fresh bread there ,and what is wrong with
cuban bread? to get real Italian bread you must go to N.Y.C.
|
| 15 | I like the chickens in Key West. Why do they want to get rid of them? |

Most under-appreciated restaurant
in Big Pine is the Big Pine Restaurant (aka the BP Coffee Shop) --
good food, reasonable prices -- the new decor looks terrific -- and
the place is always filled with locals. Best ribs in the Keys!

Could the word be "stalwart"
(meaning marked by outstanding strength and vigor of body, mind and
vigor)?
|
| 15 |
Sorry...let it go once, but couldn't stand twice. "Stollward"
or "Stoll ward" are not words (used in two recent postings, I would

Thanks to everyone who helped out with the 1st. annual John Muscarello Kingfish Tournament. Everything turned out great!! Thank you to all who sponsored our event. Hope to see everyone next year. Take a kid fishing. --Capt. Greg Gore |
| 14 | "Stollward" individuals are those who because of dedication to the cause of supporting their chosen places of doing business are convinced the best deal for them is to shop at home. On the other hand it could apply to those who, out of ignorance and the reality of the situation, may fall pray to the environment they find themselves in. EG: Out of the unknown. Out of the unknown might be the exorbitant prices for gasoline at "Paradise Petroleum" What say You!!! |
| 14 | To the person who will never come back to aromas because his Italian sub was served on Cuban bread, I have been on BP a long time. Since I was in Kindergarten. It is the only bread I can get baked fresh on a daily basis. And yes I do buy my lettuce their also. I get to pick what looks freshest. Hopefully in the future I can afford a bread oven and bake all my own fresh bread! |
| 14 | Bread. If a restaurant has good bread they'll succeed. Sq. Grouper on Cudjoe has good bread. I don't go out to eat much because everything I find in local restaurants comes from Winn Dixie and I have that at home already. Why go out except for convienence? we're certainly not going to get anything special. |

Its a good thing Big Piners are commenting on some of the local eateries and bars. Anywhere else in the world, these establishments would simply fold. People would laugh them out of business. The government would shut them down. They get away with dishing up lousy food at ridiculous prices because they don't rely on return customers but on the profusion of tourism--and liquor sales. Desperate for "local fare", or just desperate, they eat there once and never go back. Order a "grouper" sandwich and you get an unidentifiable rubbery cod on a hamburger bun. Do the people who run these businesses take locals for fools? The key to success in the restaurant business is consistency, and the only consistent element is lousy food for an inversely proportional price. Add to the black list, Boondocks and Robs--examples of gouging at its best--and obscure fish. Big Pine Pizza Works, clean up your act!! There's other pizza out there!! |
| 13 | It's not just the pizza here that sucks, it's all the restaurants on Big Pine that suck. They're all right if you like grease or stuff drowned in sauce. Try to get a nice thick fresh fish sandwich and you're out of luck. The only consistent good food was at the now defunct Pepperonis. |

$20,000 to get rid of “a lot” of the chickens in Key West is stupid. That’s about $20 for each bird. Why not post a bounty of about a dollar a bird; and the hunters get to eat the catch. All the chickens will be gone in a month. |

Ok, we’re going to give temporary green cards to immigrants who are already here, but we still don’t control our southern border. |

What are “stoll ward” individuals as in yesterday’s kudos? |

When driving and doing some heavy thinking and a religious station drifts onto your radio—is your first impression that it’s a message from God and it’s meant to be? Do you have the same impression if a heavy metal station drifts onto your radio? Is that meant to be, too? should you go out and buy an amp? |

Who the heck is Larry Sullivan. Must not of made much of an impact
since I have never heard of him. The last time I went to Pizza Works
the slices were half the size and the dough was flat and floured. I
am hoping it was just a bad batch that day, usually their stuff is good. Tried Montes new restaurant in Key West and it is Excellent. Really Fresh Seafood and large portions. Incredible Fried Shrimp. The best I ever had and at a fair price. On top of it he does a happy hour two for one. |

What ever happened to the prospect of an alternate
route through BPK so as to ease the load on US 1? It appears to me
this is long overdue and an absolute necessity. Surely the residents
of BPK won't be upset by the prospect, after all they're the one who
complain about the snowbird tourism clogging the roads and denying
them the access they need in order to get them to their chosen
destination. I think a suitable name for this by-pass might possibly
be "Snowbird Expressway". It might be a good idea as well to levy a
toll fee so as to compensate those industries that could be effected
by such a move, plus a subsidy to those stoll ward individuals who
may need the aid of bicarbonate of soda to correct their indigestion
for having not taken the "Snowbird Expressway". WHAT SAY YOU?

Now all we need is for Dayton to sell his house and
leave the keys ,but rest assure
someone else will replace them. The uncivic
association still has a few left; although their membership is
decreasing.

Congratulations to Larry Sullivan for putting his
house on the market!! Thank you for leaving the keys!!! Oh, by the
way, all that bullshit that he spewed about the keys and how
precious they are and we don't deserve them... All he did was buy
his house for $180,000 in '98 and then used the increase in the
housing market 5 years later to make a profit and move
elsewhere. So, obviously EVERYTHING he ever said was a lie. He
didn't care at all. Even devout tree-huggers can be bought!!

If you like Aroma's sandwiches, then you've been in
the keys too long. Last time I had an Italian sub there, it was on
cuban bread and they used that winged lettuce you buy in a bag at
the grocery store. It sucked, and I'll never go back.

Aroma should advertise more as a deli. They have the
best cold cuts and not expensive.
I would rather buy from Aroma than Murrays. The more
business she has the better selection, but she is limited on what
she sells, but I have to disagree re: Pizza Works. I think their
pizza has improved unless it has change since last month.

When you go to Pizza Works, notice that they cheapened up the pizza special. It is now half the size of what is used to be with a lot less cheese, and lousy flat floured dough. You're messing up. Whose brilliant idea was this? Better to go back to the way it used to be and charge a little more. |
| 7 | Be very very grateful you do not live north of Jacsonville. The eastern US in freezing! Enjoy that sunshine & warm water- it's sacred! |
| 7 | To those who take their film for processing Ickards on the Island.....make sure you check them before you leave the store to make sure you got you're photos. And don't pay for them until you're sure because they will rush you out of the store so waiting customers don't overhear their screw up, even though you've paid. I knew that I should have stuck with Walgreen's. Not only is the quality of work far superior, my photos have NEVER been lost. I'm still rooting for Walgreen's on the Island and I've been here since 1962!!!!! |

It’s about time that our government started fingerprinting foreigners coming into this country. They should have started this the day after Sept. 11th. Our borders are still too porous. Unlike in the movies, you can't cut off someone's thumb and use the print because the real scanners have heat sensors to tell if you're a stiff. |
| 7 | It doesn't surprise me that men walk around with their pants around their ankles, but how do they do it without falling on their head. |
| 7 | I concur. Aroma's Deli on County Road is very good. Keep up the good work and don't change. |

This is the absolute truth. I read this myself. This Man's name is Martin S. I am not mentioning his last name. Martin, a Big Pine Key Man, got his name in the paper up in Rockledge or Melbourne Florida for walking around in the parking lot of a condo with his pants down around his ankles showing all he had. When told by the police to pull up his pants he went crazy and replied that he liked walking around naked so the police had to subdue him with a tazer gun. I know I spelled tazer wrong so please don't reply about that. |

What’s frightening to me is when the tourist crosses the center line into your lane to pass a bicyclist in the bike lane. They must think they need at least twenty feet clearance from the cyclist. |

Dear "LOCAL" wannabees (aka tourists):
Despite what you may have seen at Winn Dixie and the beach, the following combinations DO NOT go together: A nose ring and bifocals; Ponytails and bald spots; A pierced tongue and dentures; Miniskirts and spider veins; Ankle bracelets and corn pads; Speedos and cellulite; A belly button ring and a gall bladder surgery scar ; Unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts and white chest hair; Midriff shirts and a midriff bulge ; Bikinis and liver spots; Shorts and varicose veins. But, otherwise, YOU BE LOOKIN' GOOD! |
