The flea market on Big Pine has gotten totally out of control; it draws nothing but rude and obnoxious people. They go into a frenzy to buy nothing. I've watched it for the last 7 years, up close and personal having worked on Saturdays in the buildings around it. If it wasn't for the few close friends that I have working there, that need the money, it should be shut down. Some locals like the produce. Does anyone care to comment on the tax exemption of the owner or is that not true? |

I’m leery of everything involving a republican government because in the late sixties we caught a government plant at one of our anti-Nixion meetings who was trying to constantly disrupt our proceedings. Beware of your government. |
| 28 |
Talk about brainwashed. Why do the Amish kids stay on the farm when they surely must be coveting Nintendo, Dell and BMW. “...how you gonna’ keep ‘em down on the farm, when they’ve seen ol’ gay Pariee?” The Amish are a cult. How come there aren't "cult busters" out there trying to rescue the inmates? |

Far be it from me to begrudge those less fortunate, however, it galls me every time I drive past our new Habitat Landing and see all of the nice shiny, new vehicles. Both adults in my household work hard (a total of 3 jobs) and I doubt I will ever be able to afford what our less fortunate citizens can enjoy. And this morning I overheard a conversation of one of the new owners complaining that they are not allowed to park their boats under the house. How sad for them. And our terrible unjust government won't let them use the land that was set aside for a park as a boat storage. I just couldn't believe it!!! |
| 28 | Bush is responsible for signing foreign trade agreements as well as blowing the door off the hinges at the Mexican border. Limiting foreign trade or taxing such is the right thing to do. Not Bush! Gas is $2 per gallon. Cubans have taken over south Florida. Illegals use more teachers, get free school lunch, food stamps, free medical. Illegals work under the table- pay no taxes, take American jobs. Domino effect. Now Medicaid is cut 1.5 billion, leaving elderly sick Americans without meds- yet Bush sent 10 billion to Iraq! Bush= loser, at OUR expense. |

The school board of Key West shouldn’t be allowed to select their superintendent because they’re just five bubbas sitting around and will select whoever toddies to them. All superintendents of schools should be elected. |

No other president has ever had a
direct attack on American soil by other than an American and
if you check the records, the jobs lost were a direct reflection of
those attacks. Why not ask the businesses that abruptly stopped
the work why they let it happen?
Why not ask those same businesses why
they sent and are still sending American high tech jobs to other
countries... I don't agree with everything President Bush has done
but he is not totally responsible for all that ails America.
In case any of you think of Japans
attack on Pearl Harbor, don't, Hawaii was not a state at the time.

No other president has put 2.2 MILLION American's out of work. No other administration has overlooked the price of gas exceeding $2.00 per gallon... that's all Bush! Puke! |

What is a republican's best quality?
The ability to justify everything to his own purpose. Amazing
how republicans can do no wrong!!

Where does the extra money go when our local elected officials don’t spend it on their election campaign? Do they keep it? If an incumbent commissioner raises $35,000 and is un-opposed in his bid for re-election; he’d probably spend just a few thousand of it, wouldn’t he, just to look good. So, where’s the rest of the money go? I see this happening frequently in local elections. |

Democrats put the sticker on the rear bumper. Republicans put
it on the front bumper.

Bush far from worst President in History.
Liberals claim President Bush shouldn't have started this war. They complain about his prosecution of it. One liberal recently claimed Bush was the worst president in U.S. history. Let's clear up one point: We didn't start the war on terror. Try to remember, it was started by terrorist BEFORE 9/11. Let's look at the "worst" president and mismanagement claims. FDR led us into World War II. Germany never attacked us Japan did. From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost, an average of 112,500 per year. Truman finished that war and started on in Korea, North Korea never attacked us. From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost, an average of 18,333 per year. John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962. Vietnam never attacked us. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost, an average of 5,800 per year. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent, Bosnia never attacked us. He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions. In the two years since terrorist attacked us, President Bush has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Lybia, Iran, and North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who slaughtered 300,000 of his own people. We lost 600 soldiers, an average of 300 per year. Bush did all this abroad while not allowing another terrorist attack at home. Worst President in history? Come On! By the way, for those who haven't studied these facts in the public school systems, all these other guys were Democrats.

To the person opposed to gay marriages but not
gay unions...were you also opposed to black people using white
people's public bathroom's, but not opposed to them having their own
bathrooms? Did you also agree with the laws and traditions that
women should not be able to vote? Not all "traditions" that were
developed from our history, are appropriate for today's changing
world. Adhering to tradition is a great thing, it's comfortable.
But let's not mask inequality or oppression inside of tradition.
Love is the best emotion we have as a species, it is not biased.
Inter-racial marriages, used to be outside of tradition as well, and
illegal. Try to think outside the box, and thanks for your
"support".

We appreciate your yard sale ad on this web
site, but can this be done on an earlier date so we can plan ahead? Ed: We'd like to print them sooner, but no one emails us their upcoming yard sales; so we have to go to the telephone pole each Sat. morning and copy the signs. Most of the signs are so crummy that we need enough daylight to decipher them--so we can't go earlier. The earliest we can get them published is by 7:30am.
Computer note: clear your browsers' cache so
you get the most recent web pages. It fills up and you get the older

cases. If anyone uses Netscape let us know and we'll show you how to clear that cache. |

Does anyone know what happened to James William
Colbert, who had a business here as "Bill the Plumber"? He was such
a wonderful plumber, always very fair and honest. I know he had
cancer, but the last time he came to our house (well over a year
ago), he was looking so much better. I so hope he is okay.
Ed: Sadly, Bill passed away a couple of months ago. His son is now running the business. |

How come Waste Mgmt. doesn’t pick up that metal chair on Key Deer and Lytton’s Way? It’s been there for months. Don’t they see it? The invisible ghost chair? Also, why do they have to start so early in the morning? Like 3:30 AM! Key West says they start so early to be done before the traffic builds. Well, Big Pine doesn’t have any traffic (except on Sat am). So let me sleep a little longer. |

I’m against gay “marriages” and for gay “unions”. It’s the word “marriage” that gets my attention. A marriage has always been between a male and a female. Just because some straight people take this view doesn’t mean that we’re homophobic, far from it. Many of us don’t think Gaydom is wrong or harmful, but we don’t want to change a tradition. I think that gay civil rights will be satisfied with the respectful phrase “gay union”. |

I ate in a sushi restaurant in LA
recently that had absolutely no ambiance, yet it was the best sushi
I’ve ever had. They were so focused on the freshness of their fish
that they closed on the weekend (restaurants’ busiest time) because
the fish markets weren’t open. The rice was served warm! There was no
menu. They just brought out different stuff until you were stuffed.
Because of their lack of menu; on their chop stick wrapper it said
“SHSUI Delicate snowflakes rest on warm, sweet rice beds--flavors
intertwined. Translucent Jewel-(sliced) natural perfection-Slide into
my mouth. TRUST ME!” |

Yup, Capt. Dan & the crew at the Key Deer
Bar & Grill are one big family. and, like all family's are happy
& work well together most of the time, but on occasion someone will
holler. I guess I got over zealous & got caught. Please excuse me
for that. I luv my crew & appreciate the constructive criticism from
my friends and customers.
Item 2:
Pizza. At the Key Deer we make fresh dough
every day. Approximately 35 lbs. We allow it to rise for the proper
amount of time, which is very important. my kitchen staff are all
"into" what their doing. We have freshly prepared toppings each day.
We have a great oven and that's why we have darn good pizza....
The party who mentioned the difficulty of making dough at sea
level is correct. its tricky. at the Key Deer we have
experimented and its paid off. Anyone ever had pizza at the jersey
shore? It's super! Oh, by the way, I came down here for the weekend,
30 years ago..still here & lovin' and appreciating every minute of
it...
Thank you, Capt. Dan McLaughlin

Being a free spirited individual I am interested in
finding out more about the airline you posted February 10/04.
If you know of a person or contact that could accommodate my needs
it would be most appreciated. After all we are born nude and it
makes absolutely no sense that we should conceal what we were
endowed with, even though the endowments we have today are
substantially varied from those at birth. Could the airline be
"NUDE AIR" ? IE: If you've got it flaunt it.......

Back when I was growing up the "Square
Grouper" was a bale of Marijuana. Wonder if that is
where the "New Place" got its name. And maybe that's where the
money came from that got it going!? Hmmmmm????????

Have to agree 2/$20 is the worse pizza, but we
do have some local restaurants serving
good food and manly portions. My new favorite place
is the Square Grouper on Cudjoe, the food
was excellent. I think it is a charming and cozy
place

Re: Culinary Wars. The worst pizza
I’ve had is from 2 for $20 pizza. The crust was awful; like eating dry
bread. They don’t even make their own dough. They buy it frozen. Next
time I’ll try D’Giorno’s and save ten bucks. |

Little
Palm Island has been recognized and awarded time and time again for
its food quality, incredible atmosphere and great service. In 2003,
Conde Nast Magazine ranked The Dining Room on Little Palm Island as
number 2 in the nation for best food. In 2004, Travel and Leisure
Magazine rated The Dining Room on Little Palm Island as number 2 in
all North America. Both of these awards were reader polls, meaning
actual past diners voted these results. There are many great
restaurants in the area and each of them stand out for different
reasons. Big Pine Cafe has a great menu and wonderful people. I like
the new look!!!!

Chicken Roundup. The Tourist Development Council should sponsor a “Chicken Roundup” event to control the chickens once a year. It would be fun, wacky and control the chickens at the same time. you could have someone there to process the chickens for food or ship them out of town (where they'll get processed eventually.) that's how FantasyFest got started. With a simple idea that blossomed into a big time money-maker for the City. |

Regarding the
"plugged canal report", it looks like it is actually a report on the
water quality of canals in general- not plugged canals.
This study looks like it is pretty thorough and comprehensive. It
seems that they found that sewage is getting into a bunch of our
canals.... gross!

Hi! I just wanted to let everyone know that if you
want a really great Italian meal you should try Farella's Village
Cafe in Marathon. Their address is: Gulfside Village 5800 Overseas
Highway, Marathon, FL 33050 Phone: (305) 743-9090 Open 8am to
10pm
I absolutely fell in love with their Baked Ziti for
$5.95 -- the bread was delicious. I recommend them to anyone
wanting a highly delectable Italian meal that is reasonably priced.
I told the waitress that they were soooo good that I
was going to tell everyone about them and that I would be putting my
kudos for them on your website.

Yesterday I heard two food editors on Miami NPR talking about FooFoo food and they mentioned Little Palm Island. They said that management probably made them control the portions, those small decorative portions are an outdated trend and that Little Palm had a captive audience so they could get away with it. Try the Brunch buffet. |

A major research institution recently announced the
discovery of the heaviest element yet known to science, tentatively
named "Administratium". Administratium has one neutron, 12 assistant
neutrons, 75 deputy neutrons and 110 assistant deputy neutrons
giving it an atomic mass of 312. These 312 particles are held

Regarding tiny portions: Of course Little Palm’s buffet is a generous meal—that’s what a buffet implies. I’m talking about their regular fare being embarrassingly small on large plates. |

66% of businesses fail in the first year mostly due to having no written business plan and under capitalization. People think they have a good idea and just jump into business with no real plan except to make money. What a waste of time and money. |
| 3 |
What’s the theory behind the froufrou food served at Little Palm Island? They serve these miniscule portions on oversized platters with some syrups splatter around. I don’t mind paying the price, but I would expect to be satisfied after I’ve eaten. The portions are so small it’s insulting. I just hate when I have to take our out-of-town guests there. I get embarrassed when the food is brought to the table in those oversized plates; as I look around I see people’s expectations dashed when they see the tiny portions. |

Groundhog Day Monday February 2 2004 |
Politicians are the only people in the
world who create problems and then campaign against them. Have you
ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are
against deficits, we have deficits? Have you ever wondered why, if
all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have
inflation and high taxes? You and I don't propose a federal budget.
The president does. You and I don't have the Constitutional
authority to vote an appropriations. The House of Representatives
does. You and I don't write tax codes and set fiscal policy.
Congress does. You and I don't control the monetary policy. The
Federal Reserve Bank does.( A Foreign Bank) Remember this when you
listen to their campaign speeches. YOU AND I
CAN VOTE THEM ALL OUT AND NEVER LET THEM GET
A FOOT HOLD AGAIN.
