Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to try and
track people down, but I lived in Big Pine Key back in the early
seventies on G or H Ave. I have tried looking people up in the white
pages and yellow pages with no luck. My name is David Bunn and
I used to hang around with Bobby Keys, his father used to have a
plumbing business named Keys Plumbing also Greg Koltunak (last name
spelling is probably wrong), also Mark Creeble or Kreeble whose father
owned a rock quarry. Julie was another friend and Junior who's
grandmother owned a little bar by the old wooden bridge, Joey Petty
whose uncle was a Monroe County sheriff. There also was a Rickenbacker
family with a son named Gary Anson. I went to Marathon High School and
my first job was washing dishes at the Big Pine Inn. When I lived
there there was a Market Basket Store, a couple of country stores, a
couple of gas stations, a prison, Big Pine Fish Camp, the Marina at
the Old Wooden Bridge and the police used to let us race our cars on
No Name Key since there was nothing built there then. I better stop
rambling on, If anybody could help me locate any of these people or
point me in the right direction on how to locate then I would deeply
appreciate it. I am going to be in the Keys for the first time in
about 22 years from 2 July thru 5 July. I am now retired from the
United States Air Force and I would like to look up some of these

our current president. What did we give China to insure their

Iraqi government by the end of June, Why are we now learning that
our soldiers will be held there until 2005?

was great entertainment, great food and drink. It was a pleasure to
see good friends. God bless Big Pine and Jerry McClain and all the

bereavement counseling. Your thought processes are quite clouded as

own convoluted interpretation of Christianity and claimed to
be Christian. And the KKK are devoutly religious in the roles of
white supremacy. Religion is their binding force for purification.
They are terrorists, and if you believe differently, then you accept

Thank you, to all the fence companies who never
returned my multiple telephone calls to have my yard fenced. Because
of this, doggie & I are forced to WALK twice a day, which means we
both exercise and socialize within our lovely neighborhood. Doggie is
not in lock-down to become like so many of the Big Pine dogs who
appear to be neurotic, lonely & very thirsty while they sit
out-to-pasture day after day after night after night. Dogs & cats are
COMPANION animals and walking down Gardenia Street is very
similar to visiting an animal shelter. I dare you to take pooch for a
walkie down that street & to report back to this site on your

We as Americans need to remember a few things during
this time of war. If you blame Bush (whom I do not like) or the
Iraqis for this war, the true blame should be placed on OUR
foreign policy as the United States. All of this did not just
start after 9/11. In the late 70's we went up against Iran AND
supported Iraq during the struggle. WE trained the Iraq military
how to fight Iran, WE gave Iraq the weapons of mass destruction to
fight Iran, We trained Saddam Hussein with CIA tactics to aid the
fight against Iran, WE solidified Saddam Hussein's power. It is our
meddling in other country's affairs, that puts us at the forefront
of battles in other countries. WE created this problem 25 years ago.
We as a people need to be concerned more with our country. Just
this morning I saw that another 25 Billion Dollars is being
requested to go towards the Iraq initiative. I ask you this...What
good do YOU think 25 Billion Dollars would do in THIS country? A
LOT!

 My son
was home on leave from Iraq. I did ask all my friends to put up
their flags. Some did. He stayed in the house for five days. He only
went out a few times. I guess he was afraid of running into people
that would ask really dumb questions like, " would you vote for bush?"
Like, duh, how would a 21 year old know the answer to that? All the
soldiers are working for our country, nothing else. Oh, by the way,
he really liked being home with our cat, he is very kind to animals.
The prison news did disturb him. Our National Guard is not ready to be
prison guards in that situation. |

improvement in there food and service. To those of you saying that

weren't since I was in attendance and she threw out the young kid

called the police on him. I think she handled the incident rather
well. It's sad that some people will place blame on those not
responsible. You are probably another bar owner upset at the loss of

I have reluctantly
tried Conch and Stein Restaurant
several times since it changed from KD's. I have to say that I have
been repeatedly disappointed. On an island with such an abundance of
waiters and cooks why is it that they seem to have the worst of both.
There was such a hype about the new cooking staff and this "great" new
menu. If anything I think the food has gotten worse. KD's used to be
good quality steak and seafood that wasn't too expensive. Conch and
Stein is the total opposite. Their sad attempt at Cajun food (who the
hell eats Cajun food in the keys?) does not make up for the better
things they took off the menu. Not only did our food take forever to
be served to us, it was cold and it was WAY overpriced for the quality
and portion size of our meals. The wait staff was unfriendly and
getting drink refills didn't happen. I'm sorry to say I have given
Conch and Stein one last chance and I will go back no more. Too bad
they can't pull it together there because they had much potential when
they took over KD's. |

I read about the tragic accident up the keys
where a couple retired, bought a big sailboat and before they could
take the trip of their life the wife was crushed to death in a boat
accident. My girlfriend's parents had a similar tragedy. They retired

heartbreaking to watch the incident with the little black cat
at Conch & Stein Tiki Bar on Sunday afternoon. What made it worse was
the owner's attitude of "he shouldn't have done that when customers
were around". Dragging a cat by it's tail and squeezing it until it
stops struggling is not the way to catch a stray cat even if no one is
looking. Shame on her! Contacting the SPCA and asking to borrow a
Hav-a-heart trap would have been a more humane way of handling this
matter. I for one will not patronize a restaurant that condones the

Surely we have more to debate then religion,

What ever happened to the debate on the Golf Course for BPK. Is
there no supportive consideration for this worthwhile venture and if
not, why not.
I personally liked the discussion regarding the
hookers on Key Deer Blvd. Plus the watering hole at Winn Dixie where
the Fishing Derby was to take place. Maybe "Deep Sea Diving" at the

To those people who feel it necessary to criticize
other religions such as Islam or Muslim or what ever the
non-Christian religions of target. You are not being a very true
Christian are you? To say that a religion is not strong enough "to
stand the truth". There are numerous "Christians" out there that
lie, cheat and steal from others, don't forget that. Don't judge a
group of people based upon what you see from the worst of them. We
aren't much better over here amongst ourselves. Would you have the
world judge us based upon how 6 of our military treated Iraqi
prisoners of war? Would you have taken those pictures? I would
hope not. But now the world is judging us based upon those
pictures. And as far as "truth" and "religion", Christianity had a
very dark gray "area" of truth as it was beginning in history.
Christians were prosecuted for their beliefs and then they turned

with our society as a world populace, is that we truly don't learn

shall make NO Law Respecting a religious establishment. Congress
should not establish a RELIGION and ENFORCE the legal observation of

combined together, and establish a religion to which they would compel
others to conform! Is this what you meant by separation OF CHURCH and
STATE? As far as Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan--their Religion teaches
them to kill anyone that does not believe the way they do. So we went
to Free people who Believe they will be rewarded by their God for
killing us! Unless you convert to their belief you are fair game to be

Rehab Driver: You obviously know nothing of me
or my husband. Neither of us have ever done drugs and have no
desire to ever do them. Keep the rehab you must need it. Oh, and
get a job--you must need something better to do than to write

 To the good
people of Big Pine Key who have chain-link-fence dogs: How about a
nice outing to Picnic Island on the weekend or perhaps a
thirty-minute walk around the ‘hood with Pooch? To watch all the dogs
frolicking in the water and the island was the same happy feeling as
watching my kid on the playground! A good time was had by all. Dogs
bark. Especially when I walk down your street with my leased doggie
and the bag of poo. One lady told my kid to not go down her street
ever again because her dog-prisoners bark. Dogs are pack animals.
They enjoy other dogs company. They need a few toys and fresh water
when they’re sitting outside all day waiting for their master. Life
happens and we’re busy Big Piners but if you’d like Pooch to live a
long, full, happy healthy life then give him and yourself a walk and a
little bit of fun. Surely you know someone with a boat to check out
the great fun on Picnic Island on the weekend. Really nice people AND
their smiling dogs. Maybe some people should get a sleepy cat instead. |

Parking at the ball field! Oh boy, oh boy! This
has been a peeve of mine since moving here 10 years ago. But, who says
it is the county that needs to change it? Maybe it is, I don't know.
But, how about the athletic association doing something! Or individual
car owners! Maybe street parking for compact cars only! JUST MOVE
THOSE HUGE ASSED VEHICLES OFF THE STREET! In my dreams, I am driving
down Key Deer and I take out all those vans and pickups. Good thing I
am not a sleepwalker. |

 Am I the only one who
thinks that the angle parking in front of the ball park is
dangerous? Am I the only one who notices that all cars cross the
center line when passing the park to avoid hitting anyone? Must we
have an accident there for the county to change the parking
arrangement to only parallel parking? |

I sure am glad that they fixed all
those big pot holes on Key Deer Blvd last year. I want to thank the
public works dept. My old car used to rattle so bad on that road that
my false teeth would clatter where I sounded like a castanet in a
mariachi band. |

religion could unduly influence our government and we could be left
with a government like Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan--that has no
separation of church and state. Can’t you see that, or has faith

WINN DIXIE typical shopping
adventure. Friday afternoon. I arrive at the Winn Dixie and two
patrol cars are parked at either entrance. I walk up the ramp and
Socorro the Nicaraguan lady cart-pusher is coming out the door. I
tease her and ask her if the cops are there for her? She tells me,
"no." As I peer into the back of the patrol car I see a bushy haired
young black lad with his hands behind his back. So I go to the meat
dept. where I find the marked down sausages usually $2.99 they have
the $2.00 off sticker on them. Wow, what a score--99 cents. I'm
standing in the check out line when this girl walks up behind me
holding a bottle of isopropyl alcohol. I look at her and say, "your
not going to drink that are you?" She laughs and says, "No, it's for
my brother who is performing surgery on himself. He's removing a mole
himself." I ask if he has ever done this before? She says, "No,
but he has watched his father do it." I remark how nice not being able
to afford a doctor. I say to the girl and the cashier "What is wrong
with this picture? I am buying near rotten meat, the cashier says she
does too; and the girl with the alcohol, the cashier and I burst into
laughter.
Today I worked mixing stucco on the Island. The lady we were working
for has a mentally challenged son of approximately 40 years. I am
noticing how he is intently painting a 4x4 the purplest of purple
paint. As he is so intent and contented at the same time; and am
reminded and encouraged by his actions, and think of these bickering
postings and discontentment and wonder why? Gotta love BIG PINE. |

community newspaper, now it is just a penny saver type paper. Too
many "my wonderful wife stories."
