What a great idea. Make the whale hole a “Swimming Hole Park”. No one will ever be able to build there, so let's spruce it up and take advantage of it. this is the only place to swim on the island. |

I'm thinking about buying a high
definition TV but Comcast doesn't have the format to support it yet
and probably wont for a while. direct tv does have the format but i
am skeptical about satellite since I've heard that a cloud in
Islamorada can disrupt the signal. does anyone have direct TV that
can give me info on how well it works?

To the person who has never heard of 97.7 and is in the business.
You must not be very knowledgeable about the business. 97.7 HAS
been in business for over 2 years and WAS commercial free. All they
played was dance music. There were no commercials or any talking at
all except for radio station identification. It was purchased by
the Clear Channel group and has been completely re-formatted into
another so-so radio station with wide variety music, as though we
don't have enough of those. By the way, the radio station was
located in Marathon and the signal was sometimes intermittent and
that's why you probably didn't notice it. And, I'm another person
who agrees that we lost a good radio station.

If it were true that a heavy
concentration of industry is destructive to human life, one would
find life expectancy declining in the more advanced countries. But
it has been rising steadily. Here are the figures on life expectancy
in the United States:
1920 - 53 years 1940 - 60 years 1968 - 70.2 years (the latest figures compiled [as of January 1971]) Anyone over 30 years of age today, give a silent "Thank you" to the nearest, grimiest, sootiest smokestacks you can find. |

Prostrate exercise. Is there such a thing? I think if you masturbate and push hard when you pee that will give the thing a good workout and help it to remain a healthy part of your body. |

Defenders of the first amendment’s right of privacy are so staunch in their revulsion of the Patriot Act because they know that one crack in a container will weaken it; and privacy and freedom of expression are our most important rights and should never be eroded. |

Re "Worst Day in the Life of America"
Yes it was terrible, but review American history. Many WW II vets
feel Pearl Harbor was the worst day (we were not at war when that
happened). A whole mid 60's early 70's generation feels the
treatment of the American soldier during and after the Viet Nam
war/surrender was a darkest chapter in the American history book.
The family and friends of those killed in the Oklahoma City
terrorist attack were never compensated like the 9/11 families and
wonder what makes the 9/11 tragedy worse than theirs. I guess it is
all relative depending on your generation.

Did you know that British artillery officer Henry Shrapnel invented the exploding artillery shell in 1804? It was so awesome that it was used against the Dutch in Suriname, South America who surrendered after only the second shot? The shell was also used to defeat Napoleon at Waterloo because without the shell the British could not have retaken a key strategic point. His name now is synonymous with shrapnel (little “s”). |

Barroom Decorum: Not only does the Keys have the worst wait staff, but a lot of bar tenders don’t know that when you want another drink you’ll put your empty on the edge of the bar. Don’t be bothering us every five minutes asking it we want another drink when we’ve got one in front of us. |

I think many people resent Jews because they’re so smart. Because of this there is a disproportionate ratio of Jews to Gentiles in all things (except sports): politics, business, art, media and medicine. |

97.7FM is a radio station that I’ve also been listening to for years with absolutely no commercials or announcers. It played popular dance music, but is now some old people music format. |

I think the Mosquito control should have a mosquito decal on everything, especially the helicopters. I get paranoid every time one flies over. I think it’s John Ashcroft looking at me. |
|
| 9 | This is for the person who's upset about 97.7-FM. First of all this is no such radio station in the keys that I'm aware of. And I'm in the business. Secondly, a radio station couldn't survive for 2 years commercial free. Commercials is how a radio station makes it's money, unless it's publicly supported such as NPR. You may have been picking up a station out of the area, due to a "skip". But I doubt it was commercial free. Perhaps they just couldn't sell the time. Just thought you'd like to know. | |

97.7FM have been playing the best dance music around with the unheard of bonus of having no announcers or commercials for two years. this week they started playing “Music while you work” complete with annoying DJ’s and commercials. What a boring new format. |

| 8 | Separation of church and state? "In God We Trust" on every US dollar. And how many THOUSANDS of CROSSES are used as headstones on government-owned Arlington National Cemetery? Bravo to swearing on the bible in the US courts, like the comment said. | |

I noticed the symbolism of the US military handing over partial command to the Pols at Babylon in Iraq. They plan to do the same with eight other countries along with many translators. I predict they will all start babbling to each other. Just hope they don’t start building a tower. |

A still tongue makes a wise mind.

I think you meant that your eyes shut when you
sneeze instead of it's impossible to shut your eyes when you sneeze.
According to the NCSA/NHTSA, speed, inexperience, alcohol,
drowsiness, and distraction continue to be the major causes of auto
accidents. Accidents attributed to cell phone usage continues to
rise hence the rise in legislation to band cell phone usage while
driving. Sneezing has not been studied as a major cause of accidents
on the roadway. However, it is frequently used as an excuse for red
light violators especially the drunk driver.

| 7 | I've cleaned many shells over the years and it can be a pain in the *** . To get the calcium build up from the outside of the shell, you can give the shell a very quick dip in muriatic acid and quickly rinse in fresh water. you need to do this very quickly because you can take the color off the shell as well as the natural shine. | |
| 7 | The reason fins 24 on Summerland key closed is because the owner is a big time crook and big time liar. he ripped off more people in this town. I cant believe a man with a criminal record like his is still lying and stealing after spending ten days in jail last year for the very same thing. he didn’t pay his rent and when he did the checks bounced. some nice guy hey, he thought nothing about the employees that all lost there jobs and had the balls to not even pay their taxes. | |

Our boat's nick-name is now "Catch and Release" instead of "What is
Left at ALL??". We have had lousy luck this lobster season,
probably because we have our GPS sited on E Fish, rather than being
so determined to find the bugs. Thank you Marine Patrol and FWS or
whatever the officials are named these days. We have seen more
"babies" this season than ever before; in years past, the good
reefs, rocks, etc were ghost towns, raped and pillaged! It's good
to see the shorts still alive and ready to be caught next year. PS
Does anyone know the growth rate of a lobster?

If there’s such a big distinction in government regarding the separation of church and state, why do we still swear on the bible? |

Does anyone know the best way to clean seashells to
bring out all their natural luster & remove all the buildup? Thanks! Ed: The Shell Warehouse, years ago, would use a bleach and water solution to remove any remaining meat and slime and then buff the shell on a soft wheel. |

Did you know that it’s impossible to shut your eyes when you sneeze? Sneezing causes more auto accidents than cell phones. I haven’t had to sneeze so I can’t try this out. |

It sure is nice to see not everybody
here on Big Pine Key follows the Larry Sullivan " I got mine and you
can't have yours" attitude. I love this island and truly feels
everybody has a right to their own opinion. Some people should just
keep their mouth.

You should keep up your "thoughts for the day."
You know you could really change the mood of your readers. I bet it
would be fun to see what you could do. Your "Mark Twain" quote:
"It is much better to be thought a fool - Then to
open your mouth and eliminate all doubt" was a
good start.

To the Larry supporter that quotes Hermann Hess...I ask you this,
why does he have to so vehemently "vow" to stop the addition of a
third grade class at the charter school on Big Pine? What great
evil will a third grade class pose? It seems he has a bit of anger
towards the school, maybe anger management would be a better path
for him. And your response was 'cute', no ONE person should run
this island, that's why Larry Sullivan should back off. I think his
response to the school is inappropriate to the level of ignorant.

Bush's
nation building: The attack on the United Nations was preceded by bombings of the Jordanian Embassy, Baghdad’s main water pipeline. Baghdad International Airport remains closed to commercial traffic for fear that incoming planes will be shot down. The road to the airport cannot be secured. It is, in fact, the single most ambushed road in Baghdad, it’s checkpoint under fire every evening. Crime remains sky high. Murders since the war could reach 5,000 this year. Basic services such as electricity and water have not been restored in significant regions of their country, in part because of constant sabotage. |

(Faithless) Energy is eternal; nothing created it. That’s where we’re from. There is nothing else. All the rest is just stuff most of mankind needs to imagine in order to have hope. |

For the non-faith writer who says creation began through evolution, who or what started the chain of evolution? Evolution has not evolved from empty matter. Where did it all begin? A single cell cannot manifest itself. So, who created the cell? Energy (as in death) does not dissipate, it changes form.
| 2 | to the person who wants me to shut up about the pool's. well first let me tell you that i am NOT Larry. second does any one make a dime on the low area's here on big pine? third yes I can knit. so as i said before let's get the pools turned over or put a drain in them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. the next time you get bit by a mosquito think about it. back at ya. | |

Where does L. Sullivan get this stuff?
There are no plans for building, bussing or opening up the Charter
School enrollment for grades K through 8. He probably gets his
jollies hollering FIRE in a crowded, dark theater. What are the
benefits of having this so-called "civic" association on Big Pine?
Is membership open to anyone on Big Pine or only to those who
blindly follow the "Big Pine according to Sullivan doctrine"?
