Wednesday December 31 2003 NEW YEAR'S EVE |
Who is deXer and why does he have
his own crosswalks?
|
| 31 | Does anyone ever use those little soaps that hostesses put out in their bathrooms for parties? |
|
|
To the person who wrote that Mother Nature was getting her revenge on the people of Iran, let me make sure I understand your reasoning. The men, women and children in Iran who just happened to be born in Iran and who just happened to be raised in a particular faith, deserved death by earthquake because of this? Hmmm, wonder what's in store for me. |
| 31 |
I'm going to make a new years
resolution to quit procrastinating, maybe.
|
| 31 | For good health eat tofu..yuk! |
|
Tuesday |
I know that traditionally you eat black eyed peas on New Year’s Day for good luck and collard greens for financial success. Anyone out there know what you’re supposed to eat for good health??? J |

Dear Editor: Why did you place a picture of the Grim
Reaper beside my comment yesterday? Ed: That grim reaper wasn't meant to reflect negatively on any message. It was to reflect the imminent end of another year. I'll put today's reaper next to someone else's message. I'm sorry for any implied negativity because we support unplugging the canals and a separate web site is a very good idea |
| 30 | I highly recommend you Piners, not whiners, join together and start making your voice heard to the Army Corp and others who are making it near impossible to build a seawall, build a dock, and dredge a canal much less unplug one. Kudos to the website builder. |

Monday December 29 2003 |
Al Sharpton for President? Gimme a break! Is he REALLY stupid enough to make a mockery of our political process, & become the laughing stock of the entire free world? Good Gawd! |
|
|
To the person working on a web site dedicated to raising awareness in the community of the plugged canal situation: I am happy to hear this and I am anxious to know what the web address is when you are through. Good going and good kudos to you in realizing that this subject matter deserves attention! You have my support! When I asked questions about it, I was accused of whining. I decided to drop it and never bring it up again but with your web site maybe concerned parties can benefit from a constructive and healthy interaction. |
| 29 | The earthquake in Iran was Mother Nature's way of balancing out karma. Bad returns bad. |

The un-civic association is at it again. A toll for
us-1. is this is to keep a certain class of people
from entering the keys? Am I mistaken? Are we not
part of the USA?
|
| 28 | I just got a deposit on my Melonseed Skiff from a guy in Kansas. I didn't think there were any real bodies of water there, but he informed me that the Army Corps of Engineers have dug a number of recreational man made lakes, quarries and dams. There is actually a sailing club. |

Senior citizens are constantly being
criticized for every conceivable deficiency of the modern world,
real or imaginary. We know we take responsibility for all we have
done and do not blame others. BUT, upon reflection, we would like to
point out that it was NOT the senior citizens who took :
The melody out of the music, The pride out of appearance, The romance out of love, The commitment out of marriage, The responsibility out of parenthood, The togetherness out of the family, The learning out of education, The service out of patriotism, The religion out of schools, The Golden Rule from rulers, The nativity scene out of cities, The civility out of behavior, The refinement out of language, The prudence out of spending, The ambition out of achievement, And we certainly are NOT the ones who eliminated patience and tolerance from personal relationships and interactions with others !!! Does anyone under the age of 50 know the lyrics to the Star Spangled Banner? Just look at the Seniors with tears in their eyes and pride in their hearts as they stand at attention with their hand over their hearts! Remember....inside every older person is a younger person wondering what the heck happened ! |
| 28 | I'm working on a web site dedicated to razing awareness in the community of the plugged canal situation. There will be photos, articles, history, results of water quality studies, links to correspondence archives, contact information, etc. Maybe even a discussion forum for all the canal whiners who have a say and want to be heard. Anyone out there have any more ideas? We're looking for serious, constructive ideas, opinions and recommendations, especially ideas on how NOT to make this site boring. Maybe we can attract the right kind of support by having an interesting and informative web presence. |

Saturday December 27 2003 |
The best way for the Moslems to fight us is politically not militarily. They should be trying to win the hearts and minds of Americans—not by blowing us up. What good does that do? We won’t leave the Middle-East like they want; and we won’t reject our consumer lifestyle. They should try to show us the error of our ways. |
| 27 | Saddam's rein of terror and ending up being pulled out of a rat hole makes for a good movie. Being examined like a farm animal for ticks is hysterical. What a cockroach of a guy! |

CNN’s Bill Hemmer / Soledad O’Brien duo has the worst chemistry since they invented morning news shows. |

Today is National Whiner's Day. An actual day for all you whiners out there. |
|
|
Today is Boxer's Day in Canada. The name of Boxing Day comes from the need to rid the house of empty boxes the day after Christmas. |
| 26 | We tried your pumpkin pancakes yesterday and they were great. They were the best I've ever had and will be a new tradition in our family for the holidays. |
| 26 | If everyone's trash is as great as ours' is after Christmas, I feel bad for the garbage man. |

I like this Kudos and Whiners thing. They’re certainly a lot of odd thinkers on your island. Allen, San Jose, Calif. |

I can’t wait to read the book that will surely be written by Saddam Hussein’s interrogators. That will be a fascinating book. |

The vested rights term “Grandfathering” comes from the poll tax time. If your grandfather voted—you didn’t have to pay the poll tax. This “Grandfathering” effectively prevented newly freed slaves from voting. |

What happened to the bigot holiday Kwanza? That idea sure flopped. |

The November issue of Forbes magazine reports that British Colombia, alone, grows marijuana valued at between 4-7 billion dollars a year. Since the authorities do little to stop it, why don’t they just legalize pot and tax it? |

Ed:I don't know what happened to Sunday's Kudos. They were published yesterday morning, but they aren't here today. Is it because of the Burmuda Triangle or Santa's Elves up to mischief? |
| 21 | I can't wait to read the book that Saddam Hussein's interrogators are sure to write someday. That will be an interesting read. |

Saturday December 20 2003 |
Does anyone know where
Gene Michaels is going? I was a friend and a co-worker once upon a
time. Bridgeport, Connecticut cgough@hcc.commnet.edu |

I agree, 70 years ago, 16 was not considered underage in SC. Likewise, having sexual relations with an employee was not considered sexual harassment. And a Caucasian male having sex with an African-American female was never considered to be rape. |

How come my wife can dye her hair in the kitchen sink, but if I clean a paintbrush there she screams? |

Friday December 19 2003 |
Today is Gene Michaels' last day at US 1 radio -- after 23 years, his microphone will go silent. In addition to keeping the radio station functioning (remember Hurricane Georges?), Gene has been a wonderful contributor to our community, helping with projects too numerous to mention. Listen to his last BIZBAZ this morning; broadcasting from Cap't Dan's -- if you're in the neighborhood, stop by and say goodbye to Gene and wish him well. We will miss him. |

The Palestinians have no choice except to resort to terror tactics because the Israelis never had any intention of negotiating and they still don't. They just keep taking the Palestinians land. What would you do if someone with the mightiest army in the region started taking your land? How would you fight such an enemy? |
| 19 | I doubt if over 70 years ago, a 16 yr old was considered "underage" in SC. By the way, Thurman supported the bi-racial daughter up until he died- even paid her college tuition. She got money from Thurman up through her 70's! He took care of his responsibility above and beyond many fathers who MARRY the mothers! |
| 19 | I'm all for the underdog!!! As long as it is not a self-imposed condition! |

Dec 16 was Underdog Day. You forgot to include it in your gossip column. |
| 18 | The hair style for zeros is blue, green and bright red. |
| 18 | That is really wild that a five year old kid would yell at you like that. Probably learned from his parents. Eventually the parents will regret allowing that kind of behavior. For the most part I have found kids in the Keys to be very courteous and respectable much more so then anywhere else. |
| 18 |
Strom Thurman, the famous dead bigotted senator, had an illegitimate black daughter. What people aren’t talking about now, is that the mother was only 16 when he was 22. Why isn’t anyone talking about statutory rape of a minor? |

Wednesday December 17 2003 |
the hairstyle for the zeros is DREAD locks!! |
| 17 | It seems the hair style for the zeros is shaved head for the men. |
| 17 |
I noticed that too. There are some people who yell at you whenever you drive by in your car or boat even if you’re obeying the law. I always thought it was inherent anger, but never have I had a 5 year old yell at me. |
|
Tuesday December 16 2003 |
I really do enjoy reading this site. There are a lot of people in Big Pine that are very interesting. Kudos to the person who asked for tolerance and for us to be courteous. Today, while driving outside of the Keys, a little 5 year old girl (mind you 5 years old!!!) yelled at our car from the sidewalk "Hey next time you watch where you're going!" We never came close to this child or parent crossing the street yet the child felt compelled to be angry and to admonish us. Hmmm, wonder where she learned that behavior?????? All you adults with kids please take a moment to realize it only takes a moment to forever change who your child would have been! |
| 16 | If Saddam is handed over to the Iraqi people for trial, his mentally disturbed followers will break him out & put him back into a leadership role. I say after he answers all the questions we ask, dress him as an old haggard female hooker & hang him in Bagdad. Full makeup, red lipstick, mini skirt & 4 inch heels. Oh, lodge a nice big army boot in his crack too. |

Every decade has a prominent hairdo. Pony tails in the 50’s, The Beehive and Pageboy in the 60’s, long, straight hair in the 70’s. What is the hair style in the zeros? |
| 14 | The reader the other day was right about the Fire Dept. Standing in the middle of the highway holding a boot does not seem a reasonable thing to do for an organization whose mission is safety. |

Congratulations to the Big Pine School -- they were granted permission by the School Board to accept students outside of Big Pine and to add the third grade. It is a first rate school, with a great teacher-to-student ratio, and good test scores. They are doing an outstanding job there and deserve all the support our community can offer. |

Here's some refreshing news: According to the Alaska
Department of Fish and Game, while both male and female reindeer grow
antlers in the summer each year, male reindeer drop their antlers at
the beginning of winter, usually late November to mid-December. Female
reindeer retain their antler still after they give birth in the
spring. Therefore, according to every historical rendition depicting Santa's reindeer, every single one of them, from Rudolph to Blitzen- had to be a girl. We should've known. Only women, while pregnant, would be able to drag a fat man in a red velvet suit all around the world in one night and not get lost. |

I recently received a message from a dear friend of mine in Canada who advises that the U.S. Postal Service confiscated his box of chocolates and Christmas Cake he sent me as a gift for the festive season. When he questioned why, the explanation received was because of a directive from the U.S. "National Securities and Protection Agency" ? (I'm not certain of the correct title). He further confirms that "Google" has dropped any access that might have once been available to U.S. citizens who might wish to purchase cheaper Canadian prescription drugs over the internet. It seems somewhat strange that "Google" will allow pornography, firearms, alcohol, yes, and even penis enlargement, while denying the right of basic human needs. As for the chocolates, anyone who is on a strict diet and wishes to remain as such, might consider these "Weapons of Ass Destruction". |

Who cut all those young palm trees at MM19? Its too bad even though they were going to interfere with the beautiful view of the mangrove islands of the Saddlebunch Keys. Maybe that's why the vandal cut them. |

To the person(s) who persist in using this forum for beating up on "poor ol' granddad"... Your insults and verbal abuse are directly proportional to your own IGNORANCE, which is not only evident in what you write, but how. Before you call someone else ignorant, at least run spell check! It won't rescue you from not knowing the difference between "but" and "butt", or between "their" and "there" or when to use "a" or "an", but it may spare you further perversion of the English language which is more of an embarrassment than anything "ol' granddad" had to say. Besides, obsessing over quips on queers will only provoke more plugged canal whines. |

About music file sharing: It’s the price, stupid. Who wants to pay $20 for a disc? |

The U.S. government is paying Halliburton more

| 11 | It's amazing how one small innocent quip on the word "gay" nearly three weeks ago continues to generate such a profusion of personal insults. I bet the guy never thought he would get so much attention. What amazes me even more is how the topic has degraded into irrelevancy. What does watching porn flicks have to do with how the meaning of the word "gay" has been changed by cultural transmutation? And have you ever seen anyone REVOLVE their existence? Who are YOU calling old and ignorant when it is clearly obvious you are no spring chicken and certainly not very smart. |

Haven't you seen the sign. Sugarloaf School is a NPR Free Zone. It is illegal for student and educators to listen to NPR while school is in session. |
| 10 | I like the gas tax idea too. |
| 10 | You're right. The 9/10ths price of gas is foolish. Raise gas 1/10th cent and use the money to fund the swimming hole park. |
| 10 |
I’m writing about the fireman standing in the middle of US-1 begging for money. Isn’t their mission safety? What’s safe about standing in the middle of a highway? Duh! Does greed overcome common sense? |

Does anyone know why the radio signal for NPR fades out by Sugarloaf School? I don’t see any big towers or anything near the school. the tie line's there, but it's the only real bad reception area. |
| 9 |
Are all of Santa’s reindeer mentioned in the Bible? Or just some of them? |
| 9 | I like the idea of raising the 1/10th gas tax to fund the old swimming hole park...a great idea. |
|
Monday December 8 2003 |
To fund the new park at the old swimming hole we should raise the gasoline tax 1/10th cent. That will pay for the park and also make me happy because having gas priced at 1.69 and 9/10ths is foolish. Let’s round-off the gas price to the next cent and use the money to pay for the park. |
| 8 | Who killed all those little palm trees on US-1 just east of Park Key? It’s a shame. |

To the old & ignorant Grandpa regarding "queer"
folks,
I betcha he enjoyed some Adult Films /
Publications with girl on girl action. Isn't that GAY & why do
so many men want us heterosexual women to Do It with another chick?
Many of us girls wouldn't dream of asking our man to hook-up with
another fella while we watched.

Today
is Pearl Harbor Day "....a day if infamy". |
| 7 |
To the person that found their clocks showing a time
that was six or seven minutes out of sync. There is a direct
relationship to this, speaking from a scientific perspective, which
has evolved from the influx of plugged canals. It would seem there
is a super
hypotheses which when introduced, will affect the
electrical current that emanates from the distribution of waste
matter into the environment. Those of you with cellular phones are
subject to more intensive pressures; and those with pace-makers or
the like, are surely in jeopardy. Suggestion, move north to the snow
belt regions or practice the art of reading the sun dial.
|
| 7 |
To the person who wants people to "go figure" and to stop "whining" about the canals because "it obviously hasn't gotten us anywhere," I would like to inform you that this little forum has started to generate a momentum that you are not aware of. People are talking to other people who have experience in this matter. Names are being collected, and plans are being made for an effort to get the canals open. This has been a good forum for getting a consensus of how many people are out there who are willing to organize. And now this is being done. If you don't like this topic, you can easily skip to the next submission, but for the sake of a number of others who are benefiting from this forum, please be more tolerant and courteous, especially about things you have no knowledge of. |
| 7 |
I want to thank the person who provided a rational
explanation for the plugged canal dilemma in Cahill Pines and Palms.

Hey! poor old granddad!, you forgot IGNORANCE! don't
you have something better to worry about like perhaps finding a new
hemmroidal cream, maybe getting off that old but and getting a
little exercise! Heard the senior citizen center has great programs.
I think there a lot more constructive things to worry about for our
future generation besides them not being able to use the word GAY!
By the way I'm gay! and I prefer my name as my identity not what
goes on in my bedroom! Unfortunately in the homosexual community
they do tend to revolve there existence around their sex life but
it's just as bad as a ignorant , prejudice people like yourself
doing THE SAME THING! Peace, Love and hey!, Happy Holiday's.

| 7 | Thanks for the warning of the canal whiners novel. I'll skip tomorrow's boring canal post. |
| 7 | For anyone concerned with poor children getting Christmas gifts, you can call the schools & ask how many & what gender & age groups need anything. Drop off the gifts at the schools. |

Has anyone noticed how mid-eastern rhythms are creeping into American pop music? |

Groups seem to continually want a name change. FIrst it was, negro & nigress, then colored, then black, then African-American. Homosexuals were queer, homos then gay. American Indians were Injuns, Redmen, Cherokee (or whatever) and now Native Americans. What difference does it make? |
| 5 |
As usual there have been some talking heads saying Michael Jackson is being persecuted because of his race. I say, what race? I can’t figure it out. He used to be black, but now I think he’s among the living dead. |

There was a day when poor Old Granddad could tell his
Grandchildren to go to the County Fair and have a Gay Old Time,
that was before a certain group thought they would use the word
because it made them feel more acceptable. How am I doing this

To the grandparent with the two grandson's, I
sympathize with your terrible dilemma! most kid's I know the ages 8
and 10 are far from gay, mostly obnoxious brat's!, that still don't
even know the meaning of the word gay! I wish you nothing but love
and strength through this time of need! Instead of leaving all the
education to the schools why don't you take time out of your
obviously!, busy schedule, look in the dictionary and teach them and
yourself and while your in there look up IGNORANCE!
|
| 4 | Maybe "they" changed the meaning of the word gay because YOU changed the meaning of the word queer. |
| 4 |
My nephew wanted to go swimming in our canal and I
had to tell him it wasn't safe. How sad. I can't imagine the
people who prevent free flowing canals actually live or play in the
Keys. Right?

Naked Block Party on Big Pine!!!! Now that I got you attention - I have a problem. My Dad is coming to the Keys to stay in my house and he is famous for always saying ' Your ass sucks canal water!" Wait till he gets here and stays in my house for 2 weeks with a canal right outside his door!! It'll be a hoot. I feel sorry for the canal. |

Tell me, when did they take away queers' rights? Why do they use the word gay? They changed the meaning of the word, now nobody else can use it. I have 2 gay grandsons, years 8 & 10 and they are not queer. But I don't dare use the word. |

This
discussion board is an open forum and invites a variety of issues
and concerns, often provoking debate, elaboration and discussion.
Any forum that invites its audience to contribute and participate in
free debate has the unique capacity to inspire action. People with
similar interests can connect at an intellectual level on neutral
ground. Here, we can talk about God, we can talk about religion, we
can talk about politics, and yes, we can even whine over and over
about the silliness of plugged canals. To those out there who don't
like what they hear, grow up!
|
| 2 | Regarding the Cahill Canals. They were dug in the 1970's, not as canals but as a land-locked borrow pit. That's why they were dug so deep (30-40 feet). And that's why they haven't been opened. The regulatory agencies have rules for canals. One of those rules is that canals cannot be that deep because of the lack of tidal water exchange, and the anaerobic conditions that develop in deep canals. The developer was told that if he wanted to open the borrow pit as a canal system, he would have to fill in the canals to the proper depth. No one wanted to pay to have the canals filled, so nothing has happened. |
| 2 |
My Realtor, Jacqui, told me to AVOID
plugged canals. We're moving over from San Diego & you kids have it
pretty darn good, so be happy. SMILE!
At least you're not freezing cold &
dealing with fires, soot and ash in addition to these beautiful
shallow granola-people here in California! Oh, and the 5ive
lane highways where they drive 90 + mph. Where in heavens name are
we going to RENT (while waiting to buy a 2/2 with dock) with a dog &
three cats? Am I asking too much? ~Dana~
